Great little funky resturant with a bookstore attached. Service was good. I found prices a bit high tbh..i paid $50 for 2 people for breakfast ( I never did see the bill; so not sure what cost so much. We just had simple breakfasts with coffee. I paid at the till.) but it was a cute stop and their were kids playing in play area..people reading books. The place very much had the feeling of Nelson. It was a cute little stop.

By and far MY favourite breakfast cafe in Nelson. There is always something different on the specials board, usually quite unique, thoughtful and tasty. While you wait for your brekky, be sure to browse through the books. Again, there are some unique copies to be had. A truly Kootenay experience. Update - Christmas ‘19 Another excellent breakfast. Fresh, local eggs, locally made breads, tasty spiced sausages and an absolutely delightful server from England. Don’t forget to ask for their house-made jams and marmalade’s.

Located in a library/book store, a nice little place to eat in Nelson, and its kid friendly! My hunny made me discover this really great location on a recent trip to Nelson. The food is delicious and the service is great. The ambiance is relaxed and friendly. There is a stand of treats where one can purchase goodies as they leave the establishment, and it is also the place to pay for your meal which makes it a very convenient stop. There are many options for food, from spatzle to Eggs Benedict. The price is very reasonable as well considering this restaurant only cooks from local organic products. one of the better features for families is a dedicated corner for children to play so as to leave their parents with a few precious minutes of kid-free food-enjoyment pleasure. This establishment also use a lot of recycled products for the napkins and packaging products so as to reduce their carbon footprint. I will most certainly return to this location as the freshness of the ingredients could literally be tasted in the cuisine.

Some definite highs and lows in our breakfast experience this morning. We arrived at the cafe ready to show our vaccine passports and eat inside and were quickly told that "they weren't doing that" because they don't serve alcohol and because they weren't doing table service. Servers were clearly delivering food and drinks to tables and people were sitting inside eating without masks. We ended up sitting outside and our server was very accommodating and friendly but we were extremely disappointed and frustrated that this establishment was purposefully avoiding using the system designed to protect its customers from covid. We will not be visiting this restaurant again until they start following the rules.

Story time: we are a group of 9. We wanted breakfast. We went to several spots in Nelson and most were either closed or straight up told us they can't serve such a large crowd. When we came to vienna Cafe, the Manager told us they were busy but if we gave them exactly 9 minutes and 37 seconds he would have a table ready for us. And he sure did! This place is amazing. It's combined with a used bookstore, and it was fun to explore. Food was amazing!

Great food but poor customer service. Disappointed with the lack of mask wearing and anti-vax vibes at a time when the Delta variant is having such a huge impact on our community! Much of the kitchen staff and our server was unmasked. I know it's hard to limit the spread especially with customers sitting at tables and taking masks off to eat.... but we all have to do our best and take this seriously unless we want restaurants and schools to shut down again!! I'll definitely wait to visit again until after the pandemic.... at this rate who knows when that will be...

I loved this place. Thank you Vienna Cafe, what a beautiful start to my day. I will be back. The Traditional Benny and the Sweet Crepe were both fantastic. No frills, just really great food and honest staff. I think some of the other reviewers are letting their political views get in the way of enjoying the food. You go to a restaurant to eat and relax. Not complain and pick fights about world views.

Beautiful little spot very homey and cute. Wonderful addition of a bookshop gives you a fun place to wander while you wait for a seat while it rains outside. The food was amazing, the Benny's alone are worth the trip but nothing like the bone broth to heal the soul. It was so good we bought the broth to bring home! Definitely worth visiting.

If I could go 2.5 stars I would. Was here Saturday morning of a long weekend. There was no waiting line but you could tell that the staff was stretched thin. Overhearing their conversation with other patrons it appeared that they just opened up their patio a month prior. Seems like the staff-patron ratio would have been fine had the servers not had to run food outside, down the steps and to the patio all the time. Also appears the kitchen was too small to keep up with the demand. If you've got the time, worth it. If you have an expectation of attention from your server, skip it.

It's a good place for a social gathering since the food is a bit slow (it's very good and well worth the wait) which offers a comfortable time for conversation. In high school we went very regularly. I was just back (20 years latter) it's basically as it was. I can't say enough about how great the spatzel is. The atmosphere is very relaxing for me, it shares a space with a quaint used book and music store. I love to browse every time I'm in. This time I found a copy of a rare book I love, the first copy was bought there as well. All in all its a must visit set of Nelson businesses.

Usually love to give these guys my business, since the food is good. However, the customer service seems to be declining. In an almost empty cafe, waiting to be seated, trying to catch the eye of one of the servers and being willfully ignored is not a great customer service move. I have worked in the service industry for years and know that the #1 rule is , even if your with another customer, you ACKNOWLEDGE the one who is waiting. Let them know you've seen them, and will be with them. Rather than being passive aggressively huffy when the customer eventually seats themself, with a " next time don't do that" little comment. In a town with so many choices, I won't be giving them my business again.

Don't bother spending your money here. Such a disapointment based on the reviews. The place could definately use a face lift and a deep clean to begin with. I noticed the cooks did not wear masks in the kitchen. Guess they aren't aware of the pandemic. In terms of food and service: nobody greeted me at the door and it took several minutes to get noticed. Food tasted bland, eggs were not seasoned at all. Coffee was meh. I was never offered water and nobody came back to check on the food. It isn't the cheapest option in town either and surely there are better options.

Unfortunately I can't review the food and I am only writing to review the terrible service. I arrived saturday August 15 shortly after 10am and found myself a seat. Between 10am and 10:10am not a single waitress even looked at me to acknowledge my presence. Meanwhile, not one, but TWO groups arrive after me and they are greeted, are given menus and cutlery, etc. Finally at 10:10 one waitress looked at me and smiled, although she continued to serve the group that had arrived at least 5 minutes after me. I finally left at 10:18 after iver 15 minutes of no service. I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to try the food, as I'm sure it's delicious. But if you are visiting here, don't expect great service or friendly staff. They made me feel very out of place and very unwelcome.

We were most surprised that there would be no masks, Plexiglas, social distancing etc during a global Pandemic at this cute and generally well-liked venue. If they are so unconcerned for public health, we can't help but wonder if they take foodsafe protocol seriously either. I hope they do, but their actions (or lack thereof) suggest otherwise. I'd give this one a pass until either Covid is over or they change their obvious lack of precautionary behaviours.
