I love this café! The interior has a really urban and comforting feel to it, and is super colourful. The staff is very nice and the coffee is good. I love to walk here with my boyfriend a lot! The prices are similar to that of Starbucks- a little higher than usual, but not overly expensive.

Pricey, waited while 3 people went in front of my wife and I. I guess someone held their spot for them? We sat there for 15 mins while they argued over a cup of hot water, the girl serving did nothing to move this ahead and the other girl was at the other end cleaning when she should have been helping move things along. We actually got sick of waiting and left, so service was terrible. Nice place, have been there before and drinks were tasty, but still overpriced combined with poor service, will not be going back for a while, there's other coffee shops with much better service.

Being new to KW it was wonderful to visit Balzac’s for a mocha! I have been to several of their Toronto locations and this one is just as gorgeous. The cafe has a very nice interior with a comforting feel. I ordered an iced vanilla latte with almond milk. Little did I know, it would cost $7.90 and to make matters worse… the barista used almond breeze. As a society, it should be known among everyone that Silk almond milk is the way to go. I didn’t know almond breeze would taste this bad, to everyone who religiously drinks almond breeze, are you okay? The taste of the almond breeze was so strong (and bad) that I couldn’t even taste the espresso. The lady who took my order was nice though and she obviously didn’t decide to buy almond breeze for the store x

One of the best coffee places in town. Been going there for a while. It's a great place to do work or have meetings. Took away one star for the experience today. Ordered a Cafe Nordique and it was supposed to have a subtle hint of cardamom. Sadly, It was so strong I couldn't taste the coffee, honey or vanilla in it. It just tasted like liquid cardamom.

I like this place is not too presumptuous like a lot of other cafes where they expect you to do half the job. I don't mind returning my dishes but it makes me a bit annoyed when they expect you to when you've just paid $5 for a coffee. I'm glad that Balzac's is the way it is. Although when I saw the words coffee roasters on the sign I expected to see a mini roastery. Alas they have theirs squirreled away somewhere else. I haven't tried their pastries or anything yet but the coffee was good. Although a touch bit hot for a cortado the flavor was right.

The good? The peanut squares are off the hook. Seriously awesome. The bad: Customer service on Aug 20 was terrible: -Had to wait for two Balzacs' cooworkers to finish a long private conversation so I could order. -They continued chatting during order, while completing the order, and when I was paying. Had to interrupt to ask a question. -They got the question wrong (Q: 'Do you sell apple juice'? A: ''Yes'. When I went to collect my purchase from the fridge, it was "Pomegranate Cherry'. "Oh sorry. Thought we sold apple juice"). -They didn't want to stop chatting, so they assumed a) I was takeout, and b) I did not want my receipt. -Cashier was seriously multitasking with the trash, and had garbage bag in one hand while taking my money and giving change. ...all in, not a great experience. Step up your game, Balzac's!

Always a favourite stop for a coffee and work. It is quiet. Quite large and the coffee is good and always very hot. I also live the fact that I can always get parking. Not the case with a lot of the coffee shops in the area. If you're in the mood for something different their Cafe Nordique (cardamom, honey and vanilla latte) is really nice. A ginger cookie is a perfect pairing with a black coffee.

Really nice place to get great coffee (with seasonal espresso drinks), little great snacks, and many options of coffee beans. Very nice interior and cozy to sit with friends or work (a number of plugins along the wall). The only reason I don't give it a 5 is that the outdoor seating is essentially in a parking lot. Other than that, it's really worth a visit if you're looking for good coffee.

"Go for the coffee. Stay for the atmosphere. Keep going back for the people." I say!!!! This is the best coffee in town and is staffed by a team of great people! I can't say enough about how much I love this place!... I have not written this much in a review before but it's well-deserved, so here goes... First... I love the coffee here, and I went there for that reason... I've enjoyed their espresso, Americano, machiatto, cappuccino, house blend, light blend, winter blend, and the variety of non-dairy options to add to my drink too. I have yet to try a flat white. ... Their baked treats are delicious too. My favourites are the cashew cookie, ginger cookie, and the seasonal gingerbread muffin. Second... I sat down for a while and enjoyed the comfy feeling of being out with a friend for coffee in a laid-back and warm environment... Balzac's at the Tannery has an open feeling thanks to natural light, two-story ceilings, and layout. The mix of vintage, industrial and reclaimed decor is interesting and cozy. Last... I will keep going back because of how well they treat me. Each time I return, I'm greeted by friendly, efficient staff who care about customers and now remember what I like!... Going there always puts a smile on my face and make my tummy happy!... There are so many other places where the product and establishment are "nice" but the staff don't make it feel very welcoming... Not so here: this Balzac's always feels welcoming, plus I love the coffee and the atmosphere, so I will always go back for more ????????❤️ A final note on when to go: best time to go is anytime you want good coffee!!! ... It's quieter on weekends and evenings, when they have "coffee house" type background music that is loud enough to hear but not so loud that it disrupts your chat. ... It's busier during the day on weekdays because it's so popular with staff from the tech companies that share the Tannery building with Balzac's. But don't let that stop you... Even during these busier times, it's my favourite place to chat, write, or work on my tablet or laptop (using their free Wi-Fi)... It is always comfortable. (In warmer months, they also have cafe tables outside.)

Nice atmosphere and good menu selections however the matcha latté I purchased was not good. I noticed right away that it was bland and barely hot enough. When I got about 3/4 done, I noticed the bottom was full of small chunks of matcha that had not been blended in. I couldn't finish it. I also had a blueberry muffin, which was good but way overpriced.

Balzac is a beautiful cafe with locally roasted beans. The ambience is both charming and rustic at the same time. The cafe is set up to accommodate social distancing. The menu items reduced significantly due to COVID. I ordered a genuine Japanese sencha green tea with soy for $2.75. Overall, the drink was average. It was nothing to write home about. Hopefully in the future there will be more options once things become normal again.

I've been here maybe 50 times, and it's not as good as it used to be. Nice atmosphere, but poor value for money and disinterested baristas. $3.70 for a kids hit chocolate, and the only redeeming quality of the white chocolate macadamia nut latte was that it had caffeine. The selection and quality has diminished in recent years.

This was my first time in a Balzac's cafe. Very clean and well layed out place. Tables aren't crowded together and the interior is very nicely done. I ordered a cafe lattes and a lemon tart. Probably one of the best cafe lattes I've ever had and the lemon tart was pretty good too! Although the place was packed, i got my order in and my drink pretty fast from the friendly staff. Finally, its a little on the pricey side, my drink came to almost $5 with tax, but you definitely get what you pay for at this place.

Ordered a double espresso, which came way over extracted (maybe 5-6 oz) resulting in a relatively bitter drink... if you want to train your baristas better there should be a maximum of 2 1/2 oz in a double espresso... When I asked what bean they used to make the espresso, the "barista" told me it was an espresso bean and looked at me like i was kind of dense. For the record, espresso is the drink not the bean... the origin and the level of roast gives you more information than saying it is an espresso bean (that seems obvious, since I ordered espresso)... won't come back for espresso here... i'm sure other drinks are fine here...

Cozy place to relax and have some warm drinks. Service is fairly quick and employees seemed friendly. Prices are fair, comparable to other coffee places. Has free WiFi but annoyingly you have to reconnect after an hour which is an inconvenience. Nicely lit so makes time to just sit and work really easy

Originally chose this place because of the name. I like the aesthetic and atmosphere. Our beverages were delicious, and the service was friendly, and cheerful, with a bright smile! They have treats and a water dish for dogs, which you can bring with you in the patio area. Parking is good here too, even during evening hours.

Great coffee and great service, but watch out for the limits on how long you can stay. I went for a relaxing morning of coffee and came back to my car in their parking lot to find a $25 parking ticket. Apparently this is normal and common. I was told by customer service that they would pass my suggestion to improve signage regarding time limits to the Kitchener store, but I haven't been back to see if they have done anything. They still get four stars, and I'll go back now that I know the rules and won't be one of the many folks who get caught uninformed.

Had a lemonade. It was half ice which I thought was a little much this time of year. The lemonade wasn't great. Apparently their coffee is better! The atmosphere was nice, relaxed and relatively quiet.

This is a wonderful, cozy little coffee shop with high ceilings and an interesting interior decor which is unique to the location - who knew exposed piping could be so endearing?The coffee is the best I've had since Cuba - this includes other Balzacs locations. Always a cool techie Tannery crowd, and usually dece music. Plus its got decor like a Parisian coffee shop. Like all their locations, Balzacs at the Tannery shines.

I like going to study and also great coffees! If going to study would recommend going early as it can get quite full!
