Let's put it this way, the black pearl is one of the few places that will get me into the northend. Without question this is a fantastic roasting shop that knows what they're doing. The rotation of products are such that there often something new to try and enjoy. The staff are absolutely lovely and always offer a shot of the house leftover, which is fantastic in it's own right. A pound of black pear has been a regular holiday gift for years.

I don't normally leave reviews, but this place needs it. I'm a lifelong daily coffee drinker, and this is hands down the best coffee I've ever had. The first time I went, the owner walked me through my tastes and preferences until he picked out what is still my favorite coffee I've ever had. I've been buying bags to give away to people I know just to spread the goodness around. If you're considering this place, go. It will not dissapoint.

Best coffee in the city, this is not a cafe persay, it's a roaster where you get coffee so ignore comments about seating. Buy the coffee, take the coffee home, make the coffee, love the coffee.

I am a decaf-only coffee drinker, and after tying dozens of different brands of decaf, Black Pearl has, hands down, the best decaf coffee blends I have found. With Extremely friendly service, and quality fresh coffee, the price is more than worth it.

Location: A bit out of the way, but once you know this coffee, it's not even a factor. Staff: The owner is an extremely friendly, down to earth, easy to talk to, person who really makes coming in feel like this is a place that "everyone knows your name". A great experience. * other staff could use a lesson on the products you're selling and on greeting your customers. Product: Ahh, the coffee. Once you taste the coffee that this company roasts, you'll wonder why you ever thought that Tim Hortons was great coffee (because people, it's really, really not). Starbucks / Second Cup make great espresso, but for the coffee you wake up with each morning, take to work, take to the lake on the weekends or sip on and cling to at your kid's early Saturday or Sunday morning hockey games, THIS is the coffee you need in your life. Like your iPhone or Galaxy is an extension of your life, so is this coffee. It's second to nothing... And best, it's reasonably priced too. Notable ( Medium Roast) Coffees: Ethiopian Yirgacheffe / Tanzania Peaberry (look up "Peaberry" and you'll understand why this coffee is amazing) / Mara Tatu Notable (Dark Roast) Coffees: "the Black Pearl" House Blend / Bolivia Colonial Carnivali / Mexican Oaxaca Overall: 4.8 / 5.0 (Amazing Coffee)

Very helpful. I wanted to make a change to my daily coffee routine and try something better. Started me off on a wonderful blend, that I am loving for everyday. Beans had been freshly roasted that morning and they ground them up for me.

Steven Carlson

Love their coffee and and the variety there of. Not many coffees I’ve bought that you can smell the beans before the bag is opened. Local stirs for me so buy directly from the store. ????❤️

Location and Exterior: Exciting the car, instantly you smell a distinct smell of roasting coffee. the neighborhood seems a touch odd and maybe unsavoury to some, the building is well maintained, and very fitting in appearance. I felt comfortable going here. There was plenty of parking when I stopped here, and the was clearly marked reserved store parking. I was here on a Saturday. Interior: Smells of coffee. While small, it was organized very nicely. Lots of the product was behind the counter, which was fine. You can't really see much more than that. I was hoping to maybe catch a glimpse of some roasting equipment, but you can't see any of that from the front store. That's ok though. The staff: upon entering the store, I was instantly offered coffee. Very nice! The staff were great, and the one I was speaking with was able to make suggestions. Being new to the specialty coffee market, that's all I need right now. She was very polite, and the other fellow working seemed equally the same. I was there with my son, whom they made up a small sample of steamed milk for him. He was happy they didn't ignore him. The product: Before leaving, I purchased a latte. The price was reasonable. The latte was something I never tasted before. I'm not sure if there was any thing added to it, but it had a very unique flavor. I also had purchased some chocolate covered beans, which to my suprise tasted excellent, and very addicting. If you buy any, check your teeth after before going into public, you do end up looking like you drank a cup of coffee grounds. The coffee, I purchased a bag of the house blend, and a bag of an Ethiopian variety after doing some sort research on the internet prior to visiting. I have used the house blend in my Moka pot at home, which was very nice with milk. I have also used the Ethiopian coffee in my French press which I'm drinking as I type this review. Its also very good. The first thing I notice about the coffee is how much it blooms when I introduced water. I understand that's what you want to see, as it indicates the freshness of the roast. The negatives: there's no information on the bags that would really tell you when the coffee was roasted. This would be nice to know. I can only assume it was fresh. The physical location, within the Winnipeg, is not in an area of the city where you would commonly travel. Not a huge deal, I can understand this and accommodate when I'm in Winnipeg. Overall: really enjoyed it. Great place to go if you enjoy coffee. The experience alone is with it. I'm adding this as a place I shop for coffee.

This is one of the great reasons to live in Winnipeg, fresh roasted coffee, right here, in town. I wish I had discovered this place much earlier as my coffee has improved with fresh roasted coffee beans. In addition to the flavour, I really noticed the difference when grinding, I use a hand grinder and it's so smooth now. The staff are friendly and helpful and overall my visits were very pleasant. Did I say fresh roasted coffee, right here, in Winnipeg. A truly international experience, locally right now. Enjoy it...and the coffee.

Great coffee. I wished they'd sell some of the coffee I like in smaller packages. The lady serving you is not very friendly. Perhaps she needs to smile to her costumers.

The lady behind the counter seemed upset because she had to quit talking to her friend when I walked in to buy stuff. Won't be back, I'll head to another store where they want to take my money.

M C

Scary experience ... coffee is a typical roast. Not worth the drama of the owner/staff.

Bailey Peterson

Fantastic place - The staff are all very nice and knowledgeable, and they make awesome coffee beans. Lots of different origins and styles. The price is incredibly good, You pay about 15$ per pound instead of 21$ per 340g at coffee shops. Their light roasts aren't exactly as light as i'd like, and i'd love to see some lighter roasts, but i will for sure be coming back anyways. the coffee is delicious!

Love this coffee so much!

Harry Engel

It is one thing to have good beans. Another to roast the coffee to perfection. It is a totally different skill set to prepare a great coffee. The coffee they brewed for us today was better than anything I've experienced. I make it a point to search out good coffee whenever I travel, and this place takes the grand prize. San Francisco, New York, Europe, Middle East, South America... tried it all, and this place in the middle of Canada is the winner. Lousy location, no seating. But the coffee was the best. Without a doubt.

Sunmee Kim

I make my own espresso at home. I've visited more than 10 different places to buy fresh coffee beans during the pandemic years, and this place is the best. I would say, the price is amazingly reasonable compared to the quality of the beans, and the service is also lovely! I can make really good sturdy espresso shots with the coffee from this place. Happy that I finally find the place for my coffee!

Scott Gerbrandt

Deeelitious!!!
