Great staff , good food , nice view
Good food good service great view
Delicious burgers and poutine. Great views. Nice staff. Decent prices.
Great spot. I'm sure the patio is great in the summer. Friendly staff, good food. They aim to please.
Yesterday was our first time at the BoatHouse. We were given a table right on the water. It was so relaxing to be so close to the lake and listen to the sounds of passing boats, jetskis, and the lapping of waves. For the food, I had the quesadilla. It was delicious! Taste and presentation where great, and the sangria I had was also delicious. As for portion sizing, it was a bit big. I was full part way through my meal, so a smaller portion size would have been great. That doesn't take away from the experience though! I highly recommend visiting the BoatHouse if you haven't already!
Great experience good view from the deck. Food was delicious definitely try the steak
Great views, great food, great service!
The location and view are spectacular. A casual menu. certainly worth a try
Was beautiful being on the lake and having a wonderful lunch.
Sean, Kathleen and Keira are a delight. Amazing view of the harbour, a must when in Kenora
Great food and awesome live band. Didnt know what to expect as we we're just looking for a place to eat after a 6hr drive. They also did a perfect medium rare steak.
So not impressed patio closed on a summer day.. Easily spent over 400.00. Not going again!
The food was very tasty and it wasn't loud. Nice overall experience.
Excellent food, great views, great staff!
Excellent location right on the water. However my meal was not great... I'm a big fan of local fish and was assured before I ordered that the walleye was freshly caught today. But it was definitely not fresh, tasted and smelled very "fishy" and I could not finish my meal which is unusual for me! I mentioned it to the waiter and he seemed to brush off my comment. My friends had the Portobello mushroom which was very good, and the roasted veggies & potatoes very nicely done.
Great food, especially the charcuterie. Atmosphere was more low-key than the outside appearance suggested. Think clean, well lit sports bar instead of ritzy dining. Staff was friendly, but very forgetful and very slow. The interesting and varied menu would have made for a better review, but our service experience really dragged it down.
Our favourite restaurant in Kenora. Love the food & the deck.
Delicious, and no corking fee on byo wine in off season. They have a vegan portobello burger.
Whack place. DONT GO
Great place for dinner and chill out
Very bad customer service and the food takes forever. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I will never come back.
We've been going to the Boathouse for a couple years and have always had a great experience. For Kenora, there is no better place to enjoy a cold pint than on their patio. All the staff have always been helpful and accommodating, especially during the summer rushes
Enjoyed but wait for food seemed long. Great views though.
Food was fabulous, service was second to none. Began to rain, umbrellas were at tables, just had to crank'm up.. thank you Kai!!!
My favourite place in Kenora, with a beautiful deck on the lake and a dock to get there by water! Food is really good, with different recipes than a classic burger house, same thing for beverages. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff
Nice restaurant on the water.
This is now my favourite restaurant to ride my motorcycle to from Winnipeg. The view is second to none, the owner invited us to park our bikes out front (within reason) since parking is hard to find sometimes. The first time I ate here I tried to order a plain meal due to being a celiac and needing basic food for my allergy. The waitress was amazing she went back and forth to the kitchen several times and actually found out the original order I placed that I thought was safe actually wasn’t due to them making their own dressing. As a result I had their chicken club with lettuce wraps instead of a bun and it was incredible. Today I went back, I had the same waitress who remembered me, she was awesome, I ordered the same dish and this time they actually turned it into a salad for me instead of me making wraps, I much preferred this method, compliments to the kitchen for that awesome move. As we were leaving the manager greeted us was extremely nice and made use feel at home. This will forever be my go to spot due to the great service and great food!!
The staff are excellent and attentive. Bartenders give great service and remember what you are drinking. Food is awesome, chef on site. The slam burger is a must try at some point, I love it with poutine. Patio on the water of Lake pf the Woods.
Excellent patio and view of the lake. Very good and affordable lunch. Very well designed space.
From a place like this, I didn't expect to get such poor service. September 6th, 2020. We arrived in the afternoon before the dinner menu was served. We ordered our meals as soon as our waitress came to take our drink orders. They DO NOT have the Seafood Penne on the menu as it was listed online. We waited 35mins for our sodas. Another 10mins for our 3 cheese lobster artichoke dip (45mins total), which was a smaller portion than expected. The positive was that it tasted good. After another 15mins, we finally received our entrees. My companion had soup and salad. I had the Cajun chicken penne. The chicken was not Cajun and the penne was tasteless. (1hr total after ordering) I asked for a refill for my drink and NEVER received it. We asked for the bill and waited ANOTHER 20mins. It wasn't that busy at all. We were so fed up and tried to pay inside. We weren't allowed to. This poor experience ruined our day. I am someone who usually believes in second chances, this place does not deserve one.
Excellent! Had the steak with prawns and house red wine. Delish!
Idyllic spot with great views of the lake. Solid effort by the kitchen, although I suspect they were let down by an apathetic, inattentive server. We waited for our order to be taken, then we waited for our food. Suddenly the entree was rushed to us. Sadly, the food had been standing in the back waiting for pick up, probably because the waitress was "out to lunch." When the mains came, it was obvious that the food was re-heated. It was soggy and way warmer than one would expect from something fresh off the grill. My wife was still eating, when said waitress rushed in, ripped my empty plate from my table, and promptly shoved the bill and the "Point of Sale device" in my face so that I can pay her. I politely declined and requested that she comes back once everybody at the table has finished their meal. All in all, a spot with plenty potential, but this specific experience was less than desirable. A trip through A&W's drive-thru would probably have yielded a far better result.
4* window seating is pleasant to overlook the water. Outside seasonal eating area is available. Open concept restaurant. Had lunch, menu is 2 pages. Had the cod with fries. V. Good. Charming staff. Licensed
Friendly staff, waterfront place
The Boathouse sets such a great atmosphere. Topped with amazing service and delicious food, it is by far my favorite place to go out in Kenora.
Staff was amazing fast she was able to talk with me and then slow down and interact with an older individual without skipping a beat. Food was alright fish could have been fried with a little less heat. Nice size pieces of fish tho. Well done will be back!
2 hours to have lunch. Forgot our order then our bill.
Awesome food and great staff.if you are in Kenora you have to stop by for the seafood soup and entrees
Nice restaurant with beautiful lake scenery. The atmosphere was perfect, but the food was not to die for. Anyway I deferentially recommend this restaurant, if you looking for a nice and beautiful place.
Good menu, great service, on the water. Food much better than the brewery, service incomparable
Very nice relaxing atmosphere and pleasant staff who are amazing workers. Good place to stop by for a drink.
Always good food and relaxing environment
They asked me to leave! After having lunch and spending the afternoon working on my laptop, I wanted to order some cake and tea at 5 (I am not Canadian). I was asked to leave because "it is dinner rush hour...you know what I mean?". It is worth mentioning that at any point was the place full. This never happened to me before. I don't know if this is normal restaurant ethics in Canada (maybe it is). I found it to be extremely rude. It's a shame because the place is otherwise very beautiful.
The food quality was average. The prices were fair to tipping on the high side. The location is quite nice though. You are right on the water.
Great food. Good service. Reasonably priced. Great view . Staff was friendly and prompt. Food came out in a timely manner. Highly recommend. Will he going back
The food was good tasting for the most part. We got our food via takeout and our order was missing a couple things: *the fish and chips was missing the tartar sauce *my wife's meal was missing her salad We realized this when we got to out cottage with the order and it was too late to go back for the missing things. However, the poutine was good and so was the cajun penne alfredo. Seafood chowder wasn't that great and the boathouse burger was a little dry. $80 for 4 people to eat, so not so bad for the area.
It is a very good restaurant the one improvement they could do is make homemade French fries
If you are looking for views while eating, this is definitely the spot in Kenora!! There could be a line up so its best to call ahead to make sure. Food was 8 out of 10 and service was good!!
Good food and good service
Place was crowded but able to be seated within 10 minutes. Steak and mashed potatoes was very good. Vegtables kind of bland. Crab and cheese dip very salty. Don't think they know how to make a Mojito... limes were yellow and very bitter. No sugar/sweet added. Server was extremely pleasant. Very of the lake was very nice while dining.
The view was great but the service had some issues. I got seated, without ordering anything I asked to be moved to the table closer to the lake. The hostess just said no and walked away. It was really strange. I also found a hair in my salad and sent it back after eating half of it. I didn’t ask for another one but they still left it on the bill. Food was ok but nothing special. Probably wouldn’t come back again.
Worst restaurant I've ever been to. First and last time here. Food was less than mediocre, service was short staffed. Took 15 minutes for drinks, and another 40 for food. Our main waitress was very nice, but the other staff was quite rude. We were a group of 16 people, not even one of us left happy. Fish and chips: fish was tasteless and the batter was overcooked, terribly bland. Lobster BLT: three pieces of bread and the rhinestone layer of lobster... Couldn't even taste it. Just call it a BLT. Burger: patty was so salty! Bun was soggy. The only good thing was the spicy Caesar. Save your money and just go to McDonald's. You won't regret it.
Great location & service. Very pricey for what you get tho. Perhaps this keeps out certain types of people?
Food good small portions,, ,not much for ombience in restaurant,,,nice view of lake
Microwaved pre-cooked T.V. Dinners,like fancy fast food????
Best food great view.
Called in with friends and had a lovely meal. Service was excellent. Would definitely recommend giving it a try.
Boat up
The views inside or on the patio make this restaurant a VG choice. Pickerel/Walleye, Mediterranean chicken, burgers are among many well plated offerings. Food is fresh, tasty and staff care in the preparation and service. Enjoyed their roast potatoes and carrots. $$ averaging between $18-27 for the mains which includes soup or salad, a feature veg and starch.
Great location with amazing view. The food was good with reasonable price.
The food was great, and the portions were worth it. Little higher on the price, but it's hard to beat the view from the patio. Caesar drink, and the local pikeral was totally delicious. Sure recommended.
Was ok. Menu needs more selection.
Food was terrible, waitress did not know what they were doing bad service
Great food I recommend the muscles amazing sauce I mean amazing
Okay okay okay! I have so many amazing things to say about the boathouse The NEW OWNER Chad is amazing and has the eye for what this town needs in a restaurant!!! I encourage every one to stop by and have a bite and a drink or two, it is priced just right!
Good food, good drinks and good service!
Great service! Food was ok, great view
For one thing it's closed for the season
No complaints about the food, the lobster club, burger and seafood chowder were awesome. Our issue was that they sat us underneath one of the speakers and kept gradually turning up the volume throughout our stay. We couldn't even have a conversation. We would have asked our server to turn it down but she disappeared after bringing our entrees. The only time we noticed her was when she was with the rest of the staff taking a shot at the bar. We really wanted to like this place, and understand they were busy, but there was a definite lack of professionalism.
Excellent
Basically, it's just good because of the ambiance.
Nice place and great food.
Good food but the service was definitely lacking. We wondered if our server went home.
when visiting the Boathouse some food was over potion and the coleslaw was cancer most servers may pest you while eating, also the water in the glass bottle you get tastes like frozen toilet water and after giving a tip percentage for the bill you will hear your server getting upset gossiping aloud be hide your back leaving the establishment.
Fancy on the outside, not so fancy on the inside. Lots of Flys around, but the staff was friendly and my kids eat every bite.!! I got the Chicken Cajun Penne Alfredo, Not spicy at all, if you get it ask for extra Alfredo sauce.
Took an hour after ordering to get food. And the portions are tiny. Don't recommend coming if you wanna eat within a reasonable amount of time.
Although they don’t have a pet friendly patio they allowed us to order takeout and sit at a picnic table nearby with our dog. The food was great and they even let us order drinks to go as well! Beautiful view by the water!
There I was, standing and waiting for server to come show me the table. Couple mins later, I realized, server were more interested in there chit chat, than come attend the customer. I left taking picture of the menu for memeries. Lol.
Any time we've gone to the BoatHouse it has been a great atmosphere, amazing food, and great people. Might have to wait a little for drink refills but still a place you have to try! Absolutely love it
Best boat access patio in Kenora. Nice food as well.
Loved the experience by the lake, we went at the end of a dinner rush around 9. It was a nice place to enjoy the water, appys and drinks. The new owner is top notch and he took time to come say hi and the menu was great!
Great spot for food and drink in Kenora. Awesome LOTW views on the deck. Excellent atmosphere inside.
My server, Josh, was great! He made suggestions for me and the food was Appt on.
A little bit of a wait for a table but hey it was lunch on a Saturday during prime season. Drinks were great food was fantastic. Great portion sizes. I even enjoyed the coleslaw
Fast and friendly service. Food was great. Potato bacon soup was to die for.
Nice to sit and choose from a range of local beers on a patio overlooking the lake
We went there for a meal. We were so prepared for it. We wanted to enjoy the patio. But the host lady told us That once we take a table inside we cannot take change it to patio. They spoil our mood and she was not at all polite. Only lake view that’s all. Nothing else. Host is rude. Not at all polite. So much attitude. Felt disgusted.
Went on a recommendation from a local resident.will give the boathouse the benefit of the doubt that they are still getting up to speed due to the covid reopening. Service was fantastic from Josh - prompt and friendly! The restaurant was out of stock on quite a few menu items - maybe 5 or 6 entree's. I had goyza that were burnt on the bottom and slightly cold in the middle. Main was fish and chips - chips were over salted and greasy ...worse was the grease tasted old like the fryer oil hasn't been changed in a while.fish was greasy as well (likely the fryer wasn't at high enough temp). View from the deck was great despite a rain for 15 minutes.
food was delicious and portions were large.
The restaurant is amazing. Food is so delicious. Yummy!!!! We ordered 2 different kinds of pasta( one with alfredo sauce) and cheese lobster ???? dip. Also, local craft beer is so good! The food is very fresh. We are telling a big thanks to THE CHEF
Absolutely gorgeous view with great food. Worth the stop. Very big portions for main dishes. Will definitely come back again.
Only came in for few beers at 1030pm. The place was clean and so were the bathrooms. Atmosphere was pleasant however the music was a bit too loud thus conversing was tough unless you start yelling.
Excellent views can be had if the weather is nice enough to sit outside on the patio as it is right on the water. Inside has a nice feel and charm to it. The food was excellent, I had the steak on a bun and it was cooked a perfectl medium rare, I'd definitely have it again. The staff was pleasant and fun to chat with. Five stars.
Sat on the patio, lovely view. Food was great and servers were very friendly.
Great view, decent food, pleasant staff. Would've been nice if we could've got a spot on the patio but it was too busy.
Nice place and very friendly staff. Good food and view.
The lobster mac and cheese was delicious as was the pickerel dîner. Good and fast service. The local beer was tasty.
The food was very good and the portions were just right for us
Good service and from what I can tell the best place to get a beer in town.
Great food and atmosphere. Only lost a star because they don't serve pickerel until after 4 pm.
Enjoyed my fish and chips and pop by the lake. Great service and the atmosphere suited the title for the restaurant.
Best Patio in Kenora. Awesome staff. Amazing atmosphere. Gotta try it.
Place was slow to serve nearly waited an hour for a burger and fries. Fries were saturated with the fryer oil and some were burnt. Gravy was alright. I don't recommend it if you don't like big crowds and noise. When I ordered a rum and coke the server did not ask if I wanted ot mixed with white, spiced, or dark rum. They just immediately mixed it with white rum. The second one I had was mixed with a bit too much rum and made the drink a lot less enjoyable.
Closed.
Amazing location, great food and service!
First time at the Boathouse. Amazing patio with a great lake view. The Three cheese lobster artichoke dip was delicious! Wide selection of beers, and some unique drink options. It was the perfect choice for a sunny afternoon bite and beer
great food
Excellent food, people are awesome and the view from the patio is like no other!!!
Great food as always! Best patio in Kenora!
Nastiness! Never had I ever waited that long for food. And I have never ever ever got nauseous from food until tonight. I realise it's a popular place, and that they are busy, but a heads up, dont let food sit in a warmer and still serve it half an hour later. Because this means I'm driving home now with an unwell tummy. So much for the "romantic" meal before taking on our 10 hour drive back home. At least the company was good and the view was breath taking. Ladies, you are servers, not just waitresses in short skirts. Warn the customers that there will most likely be a wait, and be nice..... dont take an order and dissapear for the rest of the evening and be pouty for not getting a tip and a plate of food back.
My drink was good. The service was average but after finding a large fly in my appetizer the server simply exclaimed "ew, gross" and carried on with her day. There was also a long hair in my entree but at this point with how the server acted to the fly the hair wasn't worth mentioning.
excellent service great food
Excellent location, awesome live music, food ok but cocktails watered down and lacking flavour :(
Great food good service beautiful location
Disgusting chepously cooked food, with no sense of taste at all. Spoiled evening because of incredibly noisy music on the deck. Very very disappointed - never ever come again. Hard to believe how could someone possibly spoil the salad and mussels!!!! And bread with veggies - did you seriously mean putting ketchup on the piece of bread will help it??????? Disgusting food.
Beautiful view with great food.
Good food beautiful scenery
With better food, it would be one of the coolest restaurants I've even been into.
Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere!!! Definitely will eat there again next time I'm there.
We love this place. Stop everytime we pass thru. Food is good, service good but the patio is why we come
Love the view!
Great views, food, and service!!!
Food not as good as expected.
Great service, excellent food! Recommended to all.
Food is good, but pricey for the small portions you get. It's sad they can't be open past 11pm on a Friday or Sat in July...The Manager said it was because they didn't have air conditioning for the staff in the kitchen. The patio is beautiful with it's views and decor, but quite small. They don't take reservations, but why would they need to when they have hour long lineups all weekend. All in all a great place to go check out, but just another typical sad story in Kenora...so much potential wasted on terrible hours and small space.
It was alright, closed early on a hot Saturday night though.
What a great location for a fabulous meal! Right on the water overlooking the Lake of the Woods, the setting is wonderful. And of course the food; our meals were fantastic as well. Fresh pickerel for my husband, stuffed portobello mushroom for me and both chosen served with wild rice and vegetables done just right. And a first time treat of pickerel cheeks as an appetizer is a must-try...delicious! Server was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere is casual and relaxed. Reasonable prices as well. Parking is limited though..12 stalls are available 1 block away.
Nice dinner lakeside was a bit of a wait but totally worth it great views
Great times, boat up docks are awesome
Excellent experience. Great food and friendly service. Shanlyn was our fantastic waitress who was attentive and definitely on the ball.
Went their on a sunday of a long weekend with my wife and infant daughter. Front of house staff were rude and not friendly at all. Said there was a 40 min wait. We left. After about 40 min. We tried other restaurants but wanted to sit on the patio. We went in, saw the same hostess she was just as rude. As if she was too good to be there. Then we were told another 20 min wait. We decided to stay. We sat in the back and watched the wait staff running around and some owner or manager was telling people to leave because they were too busy. We left shortly after. no restaurant owner or manager should treat people that way. Not impressed.
Terrible meal. Slow service. Expensive. Lame
Given time, might be an excellent place to eat and hang out but first time there was not bad. :)
my worst coustmer service experience don't ever order pasta not worth it
Breakfast - Lunch or Dinner - you will always be in awe of the spectacular view of Lake of the Woods, while enjoying great food and drink at the BoatHouse. If looking for a deck experience overlooking the lake, be sure to ask for a place on the patio, or a window seat to look out to the docks straight out to scenic Cameron Narrows. A great spot for all ages dining.
Loved the mussels, checutrie board and lobster artichoke dip
Great patio but our food just ok. Patio makes up for the average food. No reason to have use frozen baby carrots and green beans anywhere. Some local craft beer on tap which is nice to see. Could be 5 stars if our food had been better.
Great place to eat when visiting Kenora
Food was amazing, view was gorgeous and the service was fabulous! Cant to go back!
Great view . Good service . Meh food .
I've been a big supporter of the Boathouse since its inception. The food, location and ambience are fantastic... which is why I contacted them twice requesting that my fiancé and I have our wedding ceremony and reception at their establishment. The first date, mid January was rejected. I was told the Owner wasn't willing to shut the restaurant down on a Saturday. I was surprised as I know how quiet Kenora is in January. The second was in October. I was told that would be okay and that the Owner would contact me by the end of the week. That was close to three weeks ago. I've since found another great venue and caterer but was disappointed by the service in this particular instance. It's been my top choice since before even getting engaged. They also missed out on a perfect opportunity to share their food with my extended family who will be visiting from all over Canada. A simple phone call would have been nice. I won't be back anytime soon.
The worst restaurant I have ever gone to! It took them so long to give us the menu and then they took long time to get our orders. After waiting for almost an hour they brought the food! It was not like there were people sitting back to back! The restaurant not busy at all. On top of everything, the owner was super rude. I DO NOT recommend this restaurant at all. There is Boston pizza a block away , which is far better than this one. The boathouse restaurant is very disappointing!!
Good food a little expensive
I visited the restaurant on October 9th at 1630. Aside from the food being terrible, we were deeply disappointed with the staff hygiene practices. For starters, a bald man with a beard and earrings was walking around without a mask when they are required by the government (he went to the front desk a couple times, behind the bar, and sitting in the corner. He was not eating). This sets a bad example to customers and is quite disheartening to frontline healthcare workers being constantly overworked and understaffed during this pandemic. It is also incredibly selfish and there is literally no excuse for this. I have 5 year old patients that have no problem complying with this mandate I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for adults. Secondly, our waitress (blonde) was eating while serving us, and after giving a takeout container went back to her meal without giving us the bill. She was not washing her hands between eating and serving us and this happened several times. This is disgusting and unacceptable. Another female employee was wearing her mask under her nose and other bartender was eating or drinking behind the bar. These behaviours of your staff are disappointing and unacceptable and violate public health guidelines. The only way out of the pandemic is if all of us follow public health guidelines and get vaccinated. I encourage you to review public health guidelines and acceptable hygiene practices with your staff. I contacted the establishment with the above review, and they did not respond. I will also be forwarding this to the public health department.
Food is always amazing and the new owners are doing an amazing job of running the joint. Service is amazing
Food was great, and the Raptors won!
Fantastic, lunch was amazing and the owner is the hostess with the mostess
Served quickly during a short wait at the bar. Seated next to a window granting a very nice lake view. Had the fish and chips. Fillets were thick, batter was thin and crispy. Generous portions. Friendly, efficient service. Loud room during busy times.
Pathetic hospitality. No one cared and they are only famous for lake view. If you are in kenora you have already visited lakes. It is not worth spending money on food and view simultaneously. If you want fine dining I suggest not going here.
We were told they can't accommodate the size of our group. We were 5 people, the place was half empty. We weren't even offered seating so we can atleast order some drinks. I would give zero stars if I could.
Had a wonderful afternoon and evening meal on the waterside patio. The Boathouse is a great place to enjoy the sights of the Lake of the Woods without leaving Kenora. The pickeral dinner with wild rice was perfectly done and was a huge portion. It is the perfect place for watching the cottagers come in on their boats to shop in town or have a meal. The evening sky was amazing and even presented a double rainbow!!
Friendly staff and delicious food. Is always recommend eatting on the patio
The food here was excellent as was the service!
Very yummy, good staff, good location/view of lake
Good food, right on the water in Kenora
They will refuse to serve you if you ask for takeout and they’re busy.
Amazing restaurant! Sat on the beautiful deck to watch the sunset while having incredible food! Great and friendly service too! A definite stop when in Kenora!
Great bartenders great service and wonderful local live music artist Ted oflahrety 5 stars and will be coming by again on friday night ????
Absolutely beautiful
Bought fish chips Turned out fish was not fresh Returned the food. So not sure food is fresh at here although there were lot of customers dining in.Great view in restaurant.
New ownership great ideas great food
Drove in from Winnipeg for a Sunday out of the city. Had the fish & chips, which was excellent! The venue was fantastic & the day was beautiful even with the bit of wind. All of the serving staff were friendly & available to help in any way needed. Was a great way to spend some time with friends. Had a great time & would definitely go again!
Service excellent and walleye was great.
Great food, awesome service, very friendly and personal. We will be back!
The overall experience was pleasant. Between me and my partner having supper there on our first night after arrival, we found the food to hit the spot. I had the fish and chips and he had the chicken burger. The fish was the best I have ever had in recent memory and the fries some of the best as well. The chicken burger was juicy, flavourful and the perfect amount. I was recommended to try one of the specialty cocktails and it tasted great as well. The service was also a delight, very helpful in choice selection and friendly. I definitely would recommend this place to any new comers to the city. Thank you for making our first restaurant visit to your city a memorable one. Will be back again.
The food was great, nice view of the lake
Food was delicious, service was exceptional, and you can't beat that view on the patio.
Its unfortunate. This place has a great location and some wonderful staff but seem to be lacking in the management department. I have been a couple of times now (havent been in town long). Drinks are very slow, service is slow, food is hit or miss.... tried the crab dip - it was good, got a burger and kale salad and they were delicious. The second time I wanted to bring my girlfriend as she is a passionate hospitality professional and was very disappointed. Ordered mussels and charcuterie, mussels were dry and had thick clumpy sauce (we did the red thai curry), flavour was ok. Steak sandwich was tough and overcooked and the mushrooms were burnt. She had looked up the menu online and the menu in the restaurant is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT - they need to update their website because it is portraying a much more upscale restaurant. Last is the lack of drink menu, its annoying and when the servers are busy I dont want them to have to go through everything at mach speed and then try and decide. They do have a wonderful male bartender that was very talented in his drink mixing, but the wine menu is brutal - JT?? I enjoy that they are keeping Canadian wines but there are a million beautiful Canadian wines and unfortunately they do not carry anything worth spending money on. Also they switch out their dinner menu for their lunch menu very early so you cant get the entree options past 8 pm. Long review but this place has so much potential I just want to voice my concerns. Our server however was sweet and bubbly and the hostess is always cheerful and accommodating. We will be back but only because of the patio location and its open late. Hopefully they can hire someone to manage quality control and work on the menus.
Such an awesome place to have a drink on the patio, excellent service and great food!
We ate here last week and the food and service were exceptional!! I wish I could remember the name of our server as I'd like to give him the praise he deserves. He was very attentive to our needs, friendly and welcoming. Our son commented to us that it was the best dining experience he had ever had and I concur, top 10 for sure.
Brutal Service ! The atmosphere is fantastic. The food "looked" great but we didn't get a chance to try it. We sat with menus closed for 20 min. We didn't even get water and it was a VERY hot day. I went in to let them know we hadn't been served yet and they STILL didn't come to attend to us. Needless to say we had to leave. I would not recommend as the wait staff were not efficient....not overly kind when I advised we hadn't been served and clearly not attentive to those they notice have not been served.
Came to the baot house waited an hr for a patty melt. Was disgusted was cold. Not a good experience here. To chaat the owner. I thought your menu said home made burger not frozen patties. Garbage. Never again will I come here.
Good food, nice location
Amazing food and service. Beautiful spot.
Incredibly disappointed with the staff and lack of service we were given. My friend and I had just got to Kenora and we were starving. We had heard really good things from this place from a colleague of ours. We walked in around 2:30 and the sign at the front said “Please wait to be seated”. So we did. We waited. And waited. And no one came to greet us or acknowledge us. Staff were walking back and forth (busy yes) but there was no one that was coming to greet us. I glanced over to the bar area where 2 staff members were chit chatting and being social with the bartender. They had seen us standing there, but nothing. There were open tables available and we were about to go grab one ourselves when a male server walked by and asked us if we needed a spot. We said yes and preferably inside. His tone was rather abrupt and it was as if he was annoyed that he had to help us. He seated us at our table with menus and said quickly to give our server a few minutes to come take our order. Again, I glanced around and there were many staff on site, some open tables and still a few staff members chit chatting at the bar. I wondered why we had to wait for our server, but immediately dismissed the thought and figured someone would at least come by to take our drink order. 10 minutes went by. I saw another couple walk in at the door, get seated immediately and their server came over immediately. We were starving and didn’t want to basically chase someone down to do their job. It was quite clear that this establishment was not worth our time or most importantly, our money. So we left and walked to the Lake of the Woods Brewing Company, where we were seated within 10 minutes, acknowledged by our kind server and ate and drank with the satisfaction that we did not waste our hard earned money in an establishment that doesn’t care about the customers they serve. A quick note to Managment: my recommendation would be to take a walk over to Lake of the Woods Brewing Company, sit down, order something, and just observe the great service the staff provide so that your establishment could learn and improve. While I may not have had the chance to order any food, I am still confident with my 1 star for this review. The place looked really nice and we had a great table by the windows. Unfortunately, that is the only positive thing I could say here. Good luck and I hope some changes are implemented in the near future.
Beautiful Thursday evenings + 25 degrees and patio is closed for customers ????
4 hours before close and refusing takeout service. We are in the middle of a pandemic and this is the safest option for families. Terrible business practice.
Great food and a wonderful ambiance.
Good food. Beautiful view.
This restaurant is horrible. They do not follow any of the necessary precautions for Covid. Servers do not wear masks nor do they sanitize. The food was also very bad. I reported this restaurant to the health authorities, and I’m hoping they get stopped before someone gets sick from this place.
Horrible service.
Boathouse was one of my favorite stops on my cross country road trip last week. The restaurant has an incredible view down the lake and is right in the heart of Kenora. Great food, drink, atmosphere, and service! I had forgotten my jacket on the patio and didn't notice until I was already across Canada, the owner has been in touch with me and has mailed it out! Incredible owner and staff, I will definitely be back.
Good atmosphere and great service
Covid seems to be kicking these guys. No seating on the patio (it was a beautiful sunny, warm afternoon)- they were under staffed. Some menu items were out of stock. Our server was wonderful so he made up for anything that was lacking.
New owner of Boathouse and it's still a great location, literally hanging over the Lake of the Woods. We got in no problem and seated right by the Lake, albeit still frozen ice, still a great view. The waiter was very good and provided drinks right away. Even found the last bottle of a specific wine for us and got it chilled quickly then served in an ice bucket. He covered most of the restaurant until it started to fill up. More staff appeared and everyone was served in a timely fashion. Service was prompt and the meals were good and nicely presented. Soup and salad were served very soon followed by the mains in a reasonable time. Two meals were right out of the oven a nice and hot. My steak was cooked perfectly to my order and nicely seasoned. A good cut of beef with lots of veggies and delicious mini potatoes. The peach and cherry crumble was excellent, freshly made and piping hot with a good scoop of ice cream. There is a small bar to sit at and in warmer weather theres a large deck with umbrellas over most tables to dine outside. A good choice for a meal on Kenora. Update: Returned here August 2019 and was promptly seated. After 15 minutes waiting with 4 staff congregated around the till area and ignoring us, a waitress came in by boat, tied up walked in. She ended up coming to serve us as soon as she was in the door. A second waitress who was already busy with the outdoor patio came over to apologize as well, but we commented she was already very busy and we didn't expect her to serve us. Again the 4 are still standing around the till. When they finally did work, it was to loudly talk while folding napkins in a booth. Napkin folding is necessary but doesn't need that many staff. The problem I see here is there is no manager or owner overseeing the operation. The washrooms are not clean and waste cans are overflowing. Also chairs in the dining room showed lots of wear and some were broken. Maintenance and cleaning are not priorities it appears. The waitress we had was great, drinks came immediately while the meals came promptly and were both very tasty and hot. Finally one of the four by the till helped deliver our meals. Again issues are not with the hard working staff, it is with managing resources and keeping customers happy. We are locals and if we aren't satisfied, we will not recommend a substandard location to visitors when we are asked.
Delicious Chowder. Very cozy atmosphere.
Excellent food
Was working in Kenora for a few days and quickly learned that the town basically shuts down at 830pm unless you want McDonald's or A&W. I am also vegan/plant based, and I noticed BoatHouse had at least one vegan-friendly meal option, and was also open until 10, the latest in all of Kenora. Called BoatHouse at 845pm, hoping to place an order for pickup to take back to my hotel. I figured they would appreciate this rather than seating a new customer so close to closing time. To my utter surprise, I was told they do not accept pickup orders at all during "busy season". This is still in the middle of pandemic restrictions where they cannot operate at full capacity and should be encouraging takeout orders not refusing them. I've never heard that from any restaurant ever, regardless of public health restrictions. Usually takeout orders are encouraged because it's easy profit without taking up a table. I wonder if they would still do orders through skip the dishes? If so, that is an insult, and baffling business practice. I then went to Safeway and got two days worth of food for $30, which is what I was prepared to spend for a single meal at BoatHouse.
Very good!
Great food and atmosphere but the service was pretty slow. It took over 1 hour to get our food and it wasn't that busy. It usually is much quicker.
Delicious food and views
Great location, beautiful patio, fine servers, but the food really lets the place down. Just not good enough, especially for the price.
Good food and service.
A very pleasant experience.
Lovely to eat outdoors and enjoy the view. Good food, curtious staff, timely service. I would definitely recommend eating here.
Awful experience. I have never seen customer service like this, I am shocked that they have 4 star review, it's a joke. We were there to have some good time for the birthday event but the server didnot even ask us if we can wait and then we can be transferred to the patio. Was refused at first place itself when we asked if we can go sit inside first and when the table in the patio is vacant then we can move.I understand that it was busy that time but where is customer service? No apologies, nothing and the lady was so rude, unfriendly ,had an attitude. Will never ever visit this place again in the future.
The food was great
Food was great, prices were good.
One of the best takeout meals I've ever had from a restaurant. Actually one of the best meals I've had from this restaurant too. COVID has not affected quality by any means. My meal (walleye dinner) was cooked and packaged perfectly, not slapped together and soggy like other places. For not being a huge soup fan, the soup of the day (creamy cauliflower) was very tasty. Manager was on site, very friendly. Left with a good impression of the place, looking forward to going back and possibly dining in.
Good food, a little on the pricey side. Nice views of Lake of the Woods
Best place in k-town ????
As we were greeted by drunk staff members drinking liquor straight out of the bottle behind the bar listening to garbage 2016 top 100 music. We were expecting dive bar food... It was a shame the chefs cared about what they were sending out, food was great. Plates where hot, presented nicely and tasted great. Wish we would of ordered more with the other great options. Our server was a gem. Discomfited by his own colleagues made our experience a little sour. If that was my restaurant I'd rip that boat of the wall and kick them into the middle of the lake.
Bad service- basically ignored by the waitress as she seemed to be too busy talking about university to another waitress. She was eating during this discussion and would check on us without washing her hands (eww). A man in a black polo was not wearing a mask at all. Staff behind the bar were also not wearing masks and were drinking/eating. Very unprofessional at the best of times- disgusting and dangerous in light of the pandemic. This place needs to be fined. The email I sent to this establishment was ignored so I guess they don't care about staff blatantly disregarding the health restrictions. The food was also horrible.
Food and atmosphere were good but service was terrible. The server completely abandoned the 3 tables she had on the patio. Even when we went in to tell someone that we needed something, it took forever for someone to come out and there were NO apologies
Had a great lunch with the family while visiting Kenora on the long weekend. Nice patio, service was great and we all enjoyed our meal.
I was in town from Winnipeg doing some business with Kanora Honda. I ask them for an excellent place to eat and took them up on their glowing review of Boathouse. Couldn't have asked for a better restaurant to grab some food. Definitely Worth coming back to again
Awesome location and the building and patio are exceptional. The food.....hit and miss. The cowboy ribeye was good but still a massive side of woody carrots. Too much root veg. We had fish and chips but the slaw was like a glop of salad cream with the hint of cabbage that made for a messy plate. Gyoza were pan fried but cold in the middle. Still the plastic condiment holders, chilled water really nice but plastic cups. Better attention to detail would bring it up a notch or two. Otherwise the staff were attentive and a nice evening out.
The staff was super accommodating. Thank you. You all made our anniversary extra special
Sooo good I had pickerel cheeks and a lobster club as the main and the waiter we had was an excellent source of info on any questions we had.100% recommend it
Service was alright good was great!
Amazing food, beautiful location, great service. 5 stars for sure! We could see vehicles crossing the river on ice roads.
Excellent service, food, people and view . Good price for what you get as view, cleanliness and food quality and portion
Great experience fast service didn't wait for the refills and she was very courteous.
Great meal, good staff!
Friendly Bartenders ????????
Great Meal, Good Prices. Had the mussels, Daily Soup and Steak and Shrimp. All cooked and made perfectly.
Racism lives in this establishment. There were countless of seats that weren't taken and they did not accomodate us because of our skin colour. The look of disgust on the host's face was very clear.
(Translated) The scenery is beautiful, the food is not bad, the most important thing is that there are fewer people, fewer people, fewer people... The parking lot is a little far away, that is, it takes only a few tens of seconds, just behind the opposite shoppers. (Original) 风景秀丽,食物也不错,最重要的是人少,人少,人少… 停车场略远,也就是走几十秒而已,就在对面shoppers后面而已。
Amazing food, love the atmosphere.....hour long wait for food
Came to kenora for a visit from winnipeg a d found this place . The food here is amazing love there french fries. The service was quick . The staff are friendly . The prices are good for what you get .
Don’t have water out of the bottles they provide full of floaters. Fish and chips were great tho!
Grear place to have a relax time.
Awesome staff! Great atmosphere!
Great service and location. OK food.
Didn't get our drunk ordered for 20 min, Slow service, wasn't offered any condiments and our starter salad came 10 seconds before our meal. Food was good.
Was a great weekend and the owner Chad took care of us.
Good atmosphere and food view from inside nice.
Nice location and atmisphere. We ordered appetizers and took an hour to get our food. Service was very slow took and drinks were watered down.
Been here several times previously in a small groups or alone and always enjoyed it. Last night however, we had a reservation for a group of 14 made a month in advance and confirmed the day before. Upon arriving, they forgot our reservation so our group had to split up into two tables. Service was terrible, drinks took 15 minutes, food took up to 1 hour, several dishes were missing, appetizers came after mains. We politely approached the manager about comping our bills, which he said he would do earlier. He was unhelpful, rude, arrogant and passive aggressive. I feel bad that the staff have to work under him. I really want to like this place but it’s difficult after an experience like that.
They appetizer was amazing, everything else that we ordered was extremely salty. The service was decent but when I mentioned that the meal was too salty I wasn't offered a discount or even a free drink...
Food was great and the staff are amazing
Went for Prime Rib on Friday, it was awesome!! Will be back!!
Great patio, excellent survice.
Owner is very friendly. Great staff and environment. Highly recommend best place in Kenora by far.
Good food - affordable
Came here for dinner after work with some friends. Service was top notch! They let us order mains even though we showed up late, bartender and who I believe is the owner/manager were very friendly. Fish had a nice thin crispy crust, wasn't oily at all, beer was cold and the building very clean. Great place, I highly recommend it.
Fantastic food, excellent service, clean and comfortable atmosphere. Great place to go for lunch/dinner or even just to have a few drinks.
We enjoyed the food and service there
Prime Rib was excellent. Patio views of Lake are both relaxing and entertaining. Highly recommended.
Awesome place to eat good food good service very friendly ambience.
Best reuben I've had in years!
I'd say a bit pricey. But good food.
Awesome restaurant food was great fast hot and delicious
Food was cold, service was decent, not a fan of the pounding dance hits and the waiter brought our to go container and put the debit machine in it to carry both :(
This place has ADD..to disfunctional
