This is such a great place to stop with good coffee and food and you can sit outside on a large veranda overlooking the river. WiFi is good too. You can park free on weekends or free for one hour at the underground parking garage a 3 minute walk away along the river. Very picturesque.

Great coffee, great ambiance, wonderful view and you get to pick...take it easy in the shaded patio and watch the ducks on the river and the kayakers and canoeists, or take you coffee for a stroll down the millennial path that runs from the park just west of the "Bean" all the way north to Hunter St. What a great way to usher in spring, pass the summer or enjoy fall days. Great coffee, gr eat staff and tasty pastries and sandwiches. Also a selection of hot and cold beverages for anyone not addicted to caffeine. Absolutely one of my favourite spots in Peterborough.

Came over from big city to enjoy the quitter ambiance and beautiful town. This restaurant got our attention right away. But unfortunately, disappointed with no service at all. After being in line 12 min, to order just two espressos, waited as well 10-15 min to be seated. And no one came to clean up table, we had go ask for it. And then 10 more min for just one coffe to come. Asked the waiter to get it back, clean the cup and bring two. She brought back two espressos and through them in table. We left disappointed ????

Very nice spot. You can't be more in contact with nature and tranquillity enjoying a very good hot or cold drink than in here. You can also order a snack or even lunch with their tasty goodies and sandwiches. You can come here with your group of friends, co-workers or by self enjoying the company of little birds that come close if you're in the mood to share some crumbs with them. I'll definitely come back.

This was an awesome little secret for people in Peterborough. It's now become a serious attraction as it's on the water and bike path. Which has resulted in this place being super busy all the time. The food and drinks are amazing and the staff super nice. Worth it if you have the patience to wait it out for some ice cream or drinks.

I love that many of the festivals are right by here because I can stop by for ice cream, a coffee or even a little dessert. They even have vegan ice cream! Lovely views right by the water. Can be extremely busy at times.

The Silver Bean really is your local cottage waterfront cafe. The cafe is right beside a river, offers stunning views at all times of the day. The staff at the cafe are friendly and gracious and the food is delectable! Going to the SB is a weekly (sometimes bi-weekly) routine for me during the weeks it is open. It really is a gem for the city of Peterborough.

Hidden gem on water. Nice patio and healthy delicious food. Should check it out. Walk the trail across the bridge next to the train tracks. Noticed a lot of homeless people hanging around but area is under surveillance. Public washrooms next to Millennium Park.

We absolutely love Silver Bean. The breakfast is actually homemade and their Americano and Cappuccino was divine! The location is out of a post card, right on the water and so peaceful. Excellent service and delicious food. We got ice-cream afterwards which was also top-notch. PISTACHIO ALMOND!!

Hard to beat the location of this cafe... It really is like escaping to the deck of someone's cottage, but in the middle of the city. The coffee quality and presentation has diminished somewhat over the years as the place has become perhaps over-capacity-busy, but it's still really quite good.

Went here with my family for a coffee on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't busy. The service was very slow and our order was incorrect. That is ok mistakes happen. However, apparently a "small" is very, very small. I paid $4 for a kiddie cup. The drink itself was OK however. The seating outside is beautiful, but there were vagrants everywhere. I'd recommend this place if you were walking in the park and didn't have a drink.

Biked here from TAS with the Venture program, we paddle boarded on the river and got a refreshing icecream after a long week of exams. Recently, I biked from Lakefield to here, and it was great again. I would suggest the vanilla milkshake, it was pretty good and a great refreshing drink after 1 hour and 45 mins of biking!

The Silver Bean is your cottage in the city. With coffee and ice cream and wifi and healthy food choices. There is a meeting room available on site that can be reserved through the city and a canoe rental business and dock underneath. The clientele is a wonderful mix of regulars and one timers - nearby office workers, mom's and kids, seniors from the nearby retirement facilities, book readers and conversationalists. All drawn to the beautiful natural setting and generous care of the staff. This place is a summer gem - we all await the May opening and mourn the October shutdown.

We waited a while for our food, but the cafe made it right without us mentioning the delay. The staff were very friendly. Everything was very fresh with generous portions. Dog friendly patio. Prepare to park slightly off-site (very short walk).

The scenery and grounds are great, but it's otherwise kind of mediocre: the food is okay (cookies are often undercooked, scones are not great, other plates are not always very fresh) but very pricey They're often out of certain coffees, and don't seem to check levels ahead of time so as to be able to proactively refill carafes; they're often caught off guard Many of the staff-members, while friendly, are kind of slow-moving and lack customer focus. It's not uncommon to have some challenges getting attention. But again, the grounds and atmosphere more than make up for it.

Great place to hang out in summer. Relaxed feel. Has nice patio and great river view. They also have toys for kids and babies for entertainment while the parents enjoy their meal. Also a nice place for ice cream and then go for a walk by the river. They have a good selection of food as well. They also have good selection of cafe drinks. Although I would have liked for more cold drink options like slushies and cold shakes. Oh and the table numbers are cool.

I would advise maybe getting on the Pokemon go train and offer some kind of service to draw more people in. Maybe a charge station? Or some kind of Pokemon ice cream flavor? Just a thought :)

Closed during winter, the opening of this cottage in the city marks the official start of the outdoor season for locals and visitors alike. Coffees, teas, sandwiches, pastries and cold treats are all well prepared and the views and outdoor venue is a truly therapeutic experience. Slow your life down and take this in.

Beautiful lakeside cafe with outdoor seating, small covered area if raining, kayaking and paddle board rental at edge below cafe. Food is delicious with a good variety, basically breakfast and lunch. There is also ice cream available. The cafe is on the waters edge in Millennium Park. Truly a hidden gem in the city.

Nice quiet cafe right on the water. They have an assortment of salads, sandwiches, breakfast items, and baked goods (and ice cream!). Wide variety of beverages. Pear chutney & Brie panini was excellent!! Free WiFi, so a relaxing place to work on your thesis (or other work you have to do). Slightly pricey, but great food.

Stopped here for brunch while driving from Mississauga to Ottawa a couple of months back. Gorgeous patio, totally worth the slight detour, and wonderful food. The portion sizes were huge and loved the salad base they provide with the Paninis. It's a cool spot for photography, and has a really cool friendly staff. Highly recommended for a lunch/ brunch halt if someone is driving the GTA- Ottawa/ Montreal area. Taking the highway 7 for the rest of the route is rewarding, and it is a way more relaxing drive than taking the 401.

Finally got around to visiting the cafe after missing out on it last summer. It was very busy when we were there but the staff got our orders to us quickly. I appreciated the availability of lactose-free alternatives for our coffee! The seating outdoors is probably the best part since you get a nice view and your food/drinks can be delivered right to your table. This time we only got coffees but would definitely come again to try the food!

Visited the silver bean cafe for a quick breakfast and ended up spending over an hour just sitting by the lake. We tried their eggs and toast, cilantro burrito, coffee and hot chocolate. The food is simple and pleasant to have - but the ambience and the location help it transcend to the next level. If you have some time and would want to enjoy the sun before they close for winter this is a definite to visit place.

What a great restaurant right on the water. I was visiting and loved it here. I came with my friends who brought their dogs and we sat outside in a very relaxed atmosphere. Everyone is so nice here. No one minded the dogs.There were vegetarian and vegan options on the lunch menu which was very nice. If I go back to this part of town I will definitely be back.

I was very disappointed in their Iced Coffee and the server who brought it to the table. I has specifically asked for one to be a double double made with milk and the other with one and one, also with milk. When she brought it to the table and I asked which one was which she replied "I don't know." So not only was it sub optimal coffee, but they couldn't get it right or even offer to fix their error or acknowledge their own mistakes. All for $12 dollars. I will never understand why people spend their money on dissatisfaction.

Silver bean Cafe is a special treat in the middle of a beautiful city. I've been going regularly to this cafe since 2014, and although some of the faces have changed the service has remained excellent. I truly think they may serve the best chai latte in Peterborough, and I would highly recommend any of the baked goods as well. Thanks for being our wonderful cottage space in Peterborough!

It's the mark of summer when the Silver Bean opens up again in May. It's a beautiful spot to have lunch, grab a drink or just enjoy some Kawartha Dairy ice cream on the water. There is also usually a toy spot for kids to play.

The sun shone warm and bright ... sparkling in the fast-flowing Otonabee River. This set the scene for a lovely afternoon last Wednesday when 60+ international students from Fleming College visited the one and only Silver Bean Cafe. There was plenty of space to sit outside and enjoy the company of our friends while taking in the sights and sounds of summer. A great big 'thank you' goes out to the friendly staff who, despite our overwhelming numbers, cheerfully ensured that everyone got their tasty beverages and treats. It was an experience my students will not soon forget.

We had to wait a while for a table in the shade as the tables in the sun were far too hot yet we saw people sitting with their computer / phone after eating all the while we were there. They should be asked to leave to free up their table. Also food was good but " real lemonade" was so watered with ice I will order water in the future.

It doesn't hurt that they also have great coffee and one of the best views in the city's under appreciated waterfront. Great Central Smith ice cream in a special location at the water's edge. If you're with children you might want servings in a cup so they aren't wearing the dessert! Eat on the patio or on the stone slabs just to the south. Afterwards, stroll to the north and appreciate the butterfly garden. Bereaved Families of Ontario's Peterborough Chapter have lovely plaques that honour the memories of people's children who has passed. Bless them all ...

Nice cafe by the waterfront. Other than the wasps there is nothing coming between you and a nice peaceful meal. Four stars for the ambience and three for the food. We had breakfast there - two eggs on toast. Would have loved some breakfast potatoes and sausages but it wasn’t an option.

Really peaceful spot to start the day with a couple coffees and muffins. Even though it was super busy the line moved quickly and the tables were very spaced out... would definitely stop here again for a coffee and a sandwich the next time I'm in Peterborough.

In a low sunlight evening when you feel like having good snacks / tea or coffee with friend or friends, this is the best place to be. Sight is beautiful, surrounding area is very peaceful and a chance to even get wet in the lake everything goes.

Service is friendly. The food and coffee is always fresh, and love the creative dishes too! Love the walk up window for icecream and coffee. The view of the river, bridge and birds on the little islands just off the back of the cafe. Thankful for their health conscious practices as well.

Beautiful spot right on the water but we were not impressed with the food. Paninis and eggs with toast were ok but would have been better with the option to choose fries or hashbrowns on the side instead of salad for the kids. Otherwise great views and a nice peaceful area to enjoy a baked treat or ice cream.

This is one of my favourite coffee shops. Beautifully situated overlooking the river. Open air patio with lots of tables. Friendly staff and good coffee. A really pleasant place to sit and relax.

Walked here for ice cream and it was definitely worth it. Prices seem high at first but not once you get your cone, they are really big. Kawartha dairy ice cream too so it's really good.

Lovely spot on the river. Peaceful and perfect to read a book and enjoy a good coffee. And in our case, we had an iced coffee and an iced cappuccino. Lovely staff and good with the new covid rules too.

I really like Silver Bean but I had a bad experience last weekend. I ordered a cappuccino and the milk was scalded and it was way too hot to drink. They need to be mindful of the temperature of the milk when steaming it. 139-149 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tasty food and fast service but some plating issues. My son’s panini was placed next to a heavily dressed salad so the bottom of his lovely crusty sandwich was soggy. My salad was delicious but plated in a tiny bowl that made it difficult to eat without losing some of it as it fell out of the bowl. Without those issues it would have been perfect.

Gorgeous view right on the lake, great after a walk along the trail. Bike/kayak/ dog friendly. Love their iced chai, any of their desserts and their paninis. Lots of healthy options as well. Highly recommend.

An adorable little spot on the river. Had the standard fare of iced/hot coffees and teas, as well as salads, sandwiches, lemonades and juices. They use fresh produce from local farmers, and the food is healthy while still being delicious. Low-key music events are sometimes hosted on the sheltered outdoor patio which makes it a lovely place for a late summer evening's date. There's a kayak/canoe/paddleboard rental directly below. The only thing I regret is that the indoor space is not larger to accomodate customers throughout the fall as well as summer.

Great food, great patio, but they need to provide a washroom to their paying customers. The restaurant directs you to the public park washrooms where the local addicts hang out. I had to expose my 6 year old to someone shooting up in the washroom. I’m not judging anyone. To each their own but I just think the restaurant needs to provide this essential amenity, even in a pandemic.

Love having breakfast here! Great atmosphere right on the water and the food is very good! They use quality ingredients that are fresh and tasty. If you are looking for fried food this is not your place. They menu is healthy and local!

Great little coffee shop in downtown Peterborough, I almost always stop in when I'm in town during the summer. Coffee is solid, if not spectacular, and the baked goods on offer are great (I could live off their peanut butter chocolate chip cookies). To top it all off, they have a beautiful patio overlooking the river, a great spot to chill with a hot coffee.

Thus place is amazing if you're looking for a small place to relax and chill by the water. It has a great balcony but no indoor seating. Great view and friendly staff. Be prepared to wait a bit though. It is also kid and dog friendly on the patio.

The slowest ice cream scooping in town is also the most fun to visit. Go on any hot day and you will find a line up. That's just how great this place is. Ample seating, great views of the river and awesome staff. Great for a bite to eat or a coffee. The Gem of PTBO.
