Visited an amazing Coffee Shop recently called Synonym Shop in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. This was a very nicely kept and neat shop and had a lot of options to offer. This place is known for their coffee and craft beer along with a really cool vegetarian and vegan menu. I highly recommend this place if in the Hamilton area. This coffee shop is located in a trendy part of Hamilton and even has some books for sale. This place will have weekly specials for people to try out. They have really nice desserts as well so definitely a cool place to check out. Highly Recommended.

Love this spot! The space is beautiful and the food is amazing. Great for a lil baked good and coffee ( lots of treats made in house) I've also had a couple great sit down dinners here. Great veg friendly choices. I loove the wine list. My Favourite place to buy wine in Hamilton! ( all the hip natty wines you could hope for!) Plus the fridge is always stocked with cool beers. A really cute date spot. Can't wait to be on the patio!

The atmosphere of synonym is fantastic - the marbled countertop, the light wood aesthetic, and the clean minimalist vibe. I tried their mac and cheese with the wild mushrooms. It was the best mac and cheese I've ever had. The menu is thoughtful and plant-based. The service was alright, kind folks who made the space welcoming. The only thing is the menu was a bit more pricey than I expected.

Such a beautiful and quaint establishment. Small yet comfortable, with a feel of an old malt shop. Called and made an immediate reservation for my fiancé and I to enjoy a night dining out. The root salad was an amazing beginning, sweet and tangy and delicately arranged. Had what almost could amount to a spicy Egg Benny, while my fiancé enjoyed a sort of foccacia pizza, both delectable. Paired with a Daydreams Cucumber Lime Sparkling Water, and topped off with 2 AMAZING Brownies covered in Tahini along with a Sweet Matcha Tea. We will definitely be back for more!

Worth the trip! I’ve biked and driven from Toronto to Hamilton just to eat, drink and hang out at this design-forward cafe/ wine bar. In the warmer months their relaxed patio is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Danielle always has something new and surprising on the drink menu - and the food is always delicious. Their new brunch menu is *chef’s kiss*! I can’t stop thinking about their Maitake Mushroom Toast and Challah French Toast (served with labneh). Extra points for their book/magazine collection - I’ve picked up quite a few great reads over the past year. Will definitely be back; again and again.

Beautiful place. The design is gorgeous and on point. Been more then a few times now and will continue to go back. Really great for coffee during the day, even better for drinks at night. The lighting is really good and they are always playing good music. Coffee is really good. Although I’ve only had the baked good and breakfast foods but I’d imagine the rest is just as great. Owners are super nice and the staff I’ve dealt with were kind and attentive. Need more places like this in Hamilton!

Amazing coffee from Cut and Detour, insanely good baked goods from Detour, super cool space well stocked with interesting reading material, versatile heavy ambience that suits both social and work activity and friendly staff that make you feel at home. Also longer hours that let you linger comfortably and build momentum if you are doing work, they have food, I haven't tried it but I'm definitely coming back. My first step into this place made me feel guilty because I knew I was switching over from all the other cafes in Hamilton to almost exclusively this one. We need more spots that aren't afraid to spoil us like this.

So cute. Each table is adorned with a little glass vase with dried flowers. Their menu is simple (the Tahini latte is amazing) and there is suprisingly big. Everyone seemed nice. They even have a merchandise section with wines, books, and other coffee things. Look forward to coming here again one day.

Most incredible and lovely staff, a beautiful and clean space in addition to a wholesome and delicious menu! This place is my go to anytime, either to have a coffee and get work done, to meet up with family for a meal or have drinks with friends after work. It's a place that has something to offer for everyone and they are now set up for outdoor seating.... My partner and I were looking for a cute brunch restaurant and found Synonym as we were walking down James St! The menu was limited because we went on a Sunday and only the brunch menu was available, but we still enjoyed our food! The staff here are friendly and the vibes here is fun! Only thing is it was a bit humid indoors but bearable!

Love this place! Food is FANTASTIC and all vegetarian / mostly vegan. Always delicious, creative, and fresh. The coffee is super delicious and their local offerings of fresh pressed juices / tonics make it a well rounded place for quick snack breaks or even full lunches. Very vibrant space (bigger than it looks!), and super friendly staff. Try the vegetarian Reuben sandwich - it's amazing, I never thought I'd find a vegetarian alternative this delicious.

We visited Synonym last weekend to try their new boozy brunch menu - and had the best time! The patio out front has such a nice vibe that we didn't want to leave. I tried a few new local beers and my partner got a flight of wine. The food was delicious - the menu has a lot of brunch favourites with unique twists. The Challah French Toast has Mediterranean flavors going on - served with pomegranate and labneh. It was as good as it sounds. Can't wait to come back and try every item from the menu. Definitely recommend this Hamilton gem!

How did I only find out about this place right now?! What a quaint, perfect cafe. We were drawn in by a patrons latte we saw through the window. Not a huge menu, but just delicious. My friend and I had the 2 different breakfast sandwiches on pretzel buns. Nothing negative to say. The sauces were delicious! Mine had a veggie patty that I worried about for a second, but it was unfounded. Looking forward to a return visit.

I've been here for a few times. Zeke is terrific, all of the service has been terrific. My favorite drink is their Oat Milk Latte. Having tried some of the food my favorites so far are their Green Couscous Bowl which is perfectly balanced if you get Avocado in every bite (which you will it's a while Avocado for $13!). Their beyond burger is also one of the best around, rivaled only by Democracy I would rate it top 5 vegan burgers to date.

Went in to order the dinner kit. Decided to have a Croque Monsieur at the same time. Wow, the best croque monsier ever! So creamy and such lovely bread. The chicken pot pie and sides the next day were perfectly seasoned and just had an extra special flair. A very fine takeout experience.

I am a local photographer and a couple I was shooting an engagement for wanted a couple of photos in synonym’s new trendy space with some drinks. We paid for our drinks, and received permission from an employee to shoot, and I told her that we would be quick. As I started shooting, another employee came up and rudely told me that they do not allow shoots here and that I was blocking the path to the door. I apologized and moved over, letting her know that I had received permission to shoot. I’ve personally seen a professional shoot requiring 2 videocameras done here for a local blogger. She was very abrupt and rude, and my clients and I felt very awkward by the attitude of the employee and were done our shoot in under 5 minutes, as planned. I would think that a new business would try and be a little bit more friendly to fellow local small businesses that do free promoting through their work. I totally understand if they are clear about not wanting shoots, but when other photographers are shooting in the space, and you take all the precautions to get permission and be mindful of time, it certainly left a bad taste in our mouths.

Tried a few things there for lunch, and everything was fantastic. Had the green couscous bowl and it was perfect, a great balance of textures and acidity. Selfishly, if love more salsa Verde on it, as it was great, bout all the crunch and spice was great. Wife had the no meat burger and also great. One of the first vegan/vegetarian restaurants I've gone to as a content carnivore and come away completely satisfied. Highly recommend a trip. Coffee is great too.

Hipster, unabashedly. Friendly staff, good food options for the vegans/vegetarians, and decor/music feels like an indie film if you sit at the back and look at fellow customers through the little brick square window/wall. I would say the only drawback is the price range that is on the more expensive side, which make food + specialty coffee hit your budget substantially. Otherwise, a quaint lovely little place tucked close to Barton with simple ambiance for a Sunday morning coffee and bite.

Standard earth friendly cliche boutique coffee shop in a shoebox. The space while "intimate" is open and bright. The staff were pleasent and attentive. I had a very good grilled cheese sandwich. Its counter service only, but that's a good thing because no one is in a rush to send you on your way. If you are looking for a vegetarian, gluten free, tree frog friendly place then look no further. It's clear this place knows their clients and can deliver an excellent experience.

Ordered off of uber eats was curious never heard.of the place before OH MY FREAKIN GAWD! Best veggie burger I've had in a long time and to top it off it was served on a PREZTEL BUN which blew my mind... it also came with these tiny potatoes with some sort of heavenly sauce drizzled on them..... I'm still drooling. I also ordered... DONT JUDGE ME... the cous cous falafel bowl for my lunch tomorrow and if it tastes as good as it looks I will but just as impressed as I am with the burger and delectable little potatoes I just had. I noticed there is a breakfast burger which I am deffinetly going to be adding to my list of things to do this weekend. OHHHHH I ALMOST FORGOT... THE CUTLERY I RECIEVED IS MADE OUT OF WOOD!!!! Perfect find in an area of Hamilton that seems to be going through a renewal phase. Enjoyed a well crafted oat milk flat white with a mushroom laced grilled cheese sandwich. To be quite frank, both were exceptional. Best flat white I’ve had in a long time and I travel extensively. To top it off the service was both friendly and attentive. Do yourself a favour - darken their doorstep with your presence. You’ll be glad you did.

So coffee is decent and creative brunch menu which I didn't try. However I bought a cinnamon bun to go, it must have been at least 2 days old! $6 for a dried up piece of dough, be transparent and say it's a day old! You lost a customer!

Synonym is a combination of things. They are a wine bar, coffee shop, lunch spot and they have baked goods as well. Their ice lattes were great, they even serve minor figures, if alt milk is your thing. We bought some focaccia and other baked goods to go. Definitely go back.

Went there today, and ordered two classic breakfast sandwiches and an iced latte for take out. When I got to my car, I noticed that my bill was $39, which didn't add up considering the sandwiches were $8 a piece and the latte was $5.50 or so, plus a 10% tip. When I went back and inquired, it turns out that they charged me for the "classic sando" from their "boozy brunch" menu which is exactly the same as the breakfast sandwich on their all day menu with the exception of the boozy brunch menu including a very small side salad, which is NOT worth the extra $5 dollars per sandwich. Didn't make any sense whatsoever to me, and I was a bit upset with how the situation was handled. The person taking our order should have clarified the discrepancy in prices particularly since we were doing takeout and I asked for the "classic breakfast sandwich" from the all day menu and not the "classic sando" from the boozy brunch menu. In hindsight, I probably should have asked to speak to management but I just left. Food itself was good, although the bread was old and not sufficiency toasted to mask the oldness which was also disappointing. Coffee was good. For the price, not sure it was worth it though and I'm not sure if I will be back.

This cute cafe has a little bit of everything for everyone. Not only can you grab your cup of joe here, you can also try wine and craft beer and for those looking for something more there's plenty of baked goods to fill you up. Not only is it cute from the outside, the inside is just as aesthetic! There is plenty of seating for small and large groups alike. If you want some privacy there's more seating in the back. I ordered a flat white and was a little disappointed for the lack of microfoam in my drink and there was just too much milk. It didn't taste as smooth as I would've liked it to be. My bf got an Americano which was more straightforward to make so it tasted fine. I'll stick with a simpler drink next time I'm back. Staff is friendly and service was quick.

A small coffee shop, organic wine and craft beer shop with the option to sit in or to go. The have a rotating selection of organic wines and local Ontario craft beers. While I was there the was a pop- up shop for a Toronto favorite, Burdock Brewery. A sparse but tastefully decorated shop, that just started serving food and offering craft cocktails. A good place for date night or an afternoon coffee. I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

Pleasant atmosphere, kind staff, space to do work, no rush to get you out of there, lots of great selection, well designed menus, wine for later, and free wifi. I go back for the americanos and the scones... and, the breakfast sandwich which I think has tempeh. I could be wrong. It is delicious regardless. I go here on days where I need to work remotely and settle down in a calm, warm space.

Friendly, convenient place to buy coffee and other specialty drinks. I purchased Detour coffee beans and they ground the beans in-store. Have been happy with the roast since then. Visit Synonym and give it a try, more coffee shops like this need to replace the Tim Hortons shops of Canada!
