The owner and barista were nice and friendly... They offer a variety of hot foods which I didn't try. My group of three ordered a machiato, cappacino, and an americano. To eat we shared a cookie and bascotti. For me the snacks weren't that good but the coffee was pretty nice.

Stopped by here during my morning walk with a friend and my dog. We saw someone pass us with a coffee cup and asked where she got it and she pointed us to the cafe. There was no one in there when I went in which was great for me. The barista was super friendly and helpful. They have a complimentary water dispenser and I asked for a paper cup so I could get water for my dog, might seem like a small gesture but it meant a lot to me and I always say it’s the smallest things that make the biggest different. Not all places are happy to do that. The cafe was clean, neat and cozy. I will definitely be going back to have my coffee to stay.

My husband and I popped in here by chance. On the first visit we had soup, salad, and sandwiches with some coffee and a cinnamon roll.. everything was delicious. And fairly priced. Loved the neighbourly feel to this no fuss cozy shop. Was greated by the owner and welcomed to come back with a 2 for 1 brunch coupon. We got the brisket eggs Benny and it was great! We will definitely come back. Only downfall is It's a cash only store, but for us it's no big deal. I would probably spend more if they accepted other payments though. #wesupportsmallbusinesses

Every time I drop in the service is warm and friendly, the hot drinks are divine and so are the paninis. It’s hard to find parking, so walk or cycle over instead. The boast about the hand drawn espresso is not an overstatement. Delicious!

2017: A bit on the hot side that summer day. Small place with a dozen seats or so of the low and comfortable nature. Nice elderly dog that might come by to say hello. Good coffee and Corned Beef Hash with poached eggs. Update Oct/30/19: Dropped by today for a breakfast sandwich and a cappuccino. Great as usual. No Casper (the friendly dog), since he now restricts his visits to Saturdays.

Girl at the cash was really sweet, but it took us 45 minutes to get our food... which wouldn't be super crazy if it was a busy place, but we were 1 (couple) of 5 people (total) in the restaurant and one of the only people that ordered food, a sandwich. The cook in the back was extremely rude to the girl who served us and to a customer who asked what the wait time was for food. The place itself was cozy, but overall it was kind of a weird experience.

Really cute coffee house at the top of James Street South! Great coffee, friendly and engaging owner, very fair prices. The decor is very quaint and '70s style' charming, akin to your grandma's living room; complete with Backgammon, old novels, checkers, magazines. Came here for a friendly catch-up with a friend and I had a great Redeye Coffee. I only have coffee once a week or so and this was very smooth, perfect for my day off. I also got a cream cheese drop carrot muffin. Twas' alright. I didn't pay for my food and drink so I can't comment on that. The environment and atmosphere was very laid back and felt very cozy and at home here. Good customer service. I'd come here again and recommend you do if you're in the area.

Just had lunch there. I had come here before but hadn't paid much attention to it, I was still new to the city. Second time around though, I noticed it's just super nice. The desserts are yummy as hell, the food is good, the coffee is good too (and when they tell you it's a large coffee, it's a LARGE coffee). And in true pride month spirit where I'm making the conscious but terrifying effort to use my chosen name in public, the barista (who I'm assuming is the owner) did not bat an eyelash. Hamilton in general is good like that I think

Was walking to an Ultrasound this morning and saw this small coffee shop, stopped in for a bottle of water and the owner was SO sweet. Gave me a bottle of water on him, and had the sweetest old dog who came right up and greeted me for love and pets. I left smiling in hopes to go back for a bite to eat very soon! These are the types of businesses we need in communities. Absolutely loved my short visit with them. ♡ Thanks guys!

Thought it was a pleasant experience. Greeted at the door. Hard to find seating. People on computers were all occupying the larger tables. We found a table in the back which made it uncomfortable to eat. Myself and my friend ordered 2 panini's and two smoothies. Took a bit long to get here considering the place wasn't busy. Delicious Panini's with a side of salad, and smoothie was O.K. We ended up finding a table before the sandwiches arrived. Price for food and service value was just ok. About 12 dollars a person. They should work more on their service to make the experience seem more valuable.

Overpriced for quantity and quality. Mushroomed had 2 pieces of tough ham, not enough mushrooms, and far too many veggies in the fried potatoes. The California, was marginally better with guacamole and jalapeno peppers, but serving size was small. Definitely not worth 13.00 for what you get. The veggie-fruit salsa was good... Area by front window had crumbs all over the 'counter'... Coffee was reasonable, but hot chocolate wasn't worth the price. A little heart in the cream doesn't make it taste better. Service was sporadic and it took nearly 25 minutes for poached eggs...

The cottage furniture in the back corner was so cozy, made me want to have a snooze. Good food, good prices, cash only so make sure you have some or have your atm card for the inside machine. Came here once on a chilly Saturday afternoon in November 2019, and instantly fell in love with the place. Quaint, laid back atmosphere, great food, excellent customer service, generous abundance of natural light, and an interesting assortment of books and games to explore at your leisure. Thanks Red Crow for making my first trip to the Hammer so special! Definitely returning once this pandemic is over!

Excellent venue for a wedding/quinceanera/sweet 16. I had my daughter's sweet 16 there and it was fabulous. Absolutely gorgeous building helped save on decorations. Anthony the city Community Service Coordinator that works with you will help you every step of the way: completing the correct paper work, payment, and all information. Excellent help!

HORRIBLE. I had a nice experience with the one owner, who very graciously trusted me to come back to pay for the large coffee I ordered as he didn't have the float yet and they only take cash. We talked about how the virus had affected his business and he mentioned that his cafe was earning only a fraction pre COVID. I came back later that morning to pay for the coffee and to order some food to support the cafe. The nice guy wasn't there and in his place was I suppose the other owner, who seemed stressed out at the three person line up even though no one was complaining. I asked for the gluten free bagel and tried to make things simple by asking for it just plain and untoasted (I have celiac, gluten free isn't a trendy diet choice for me, and I understand how difficult it is for restaurants to be gluten free), but the stressed out guy wouldn't let me, and it became such an unnecessary ordeal!! After this guy berated me about how they do things for gluten free people all the time, and insisting the bagel be toasted on foil and speaking to me very rudely, he then insisted that he open a whole new cream cheese package for me.....being mindful of the fact that the business was suffering financially, I tried to tell him, that's ok, I can take it plain or he could just take the cheese from the non-used end but he instead became incensed and really incredibly rude. It was awful! I often get treated poorly for being gluten free even though I try my best to order off of the menu and not be a hassle as I used to run a cafe and work as a waitress for years, but this really took the cake. The first owner was great....but this second owner is really AWFUL and a real JERK. I believe the cafe is doing poorly not only because of the pandemic, but because of how he treats people. It was really upsetting at being treated so rudely after trying to help this owner with my order. He obviously has some issues - either with women or just with customers in general. I have half a mind to register a human rights complaint - being abused due to my genetic celiac disease and due to being female. I see the response below from the owner - that is NOT what went down. This guy was not able to listen, I wasn't questioning him on whether or not he could do something gluten free, that is how much of an idiot he is - I was just trying to make my order as simple as possible (please just a plain, untoasted freakin bagel! why was that so hard????) and he couldn't grasp what i was saying because he kept interrupting! He is a fool, an arrogant pos. What a sh*t show. I had no problem with the first guy in the morning, as he is intelligent and nice. Good luck with your life of idiocy.

They have a slow vibe, and really homey furniture scattered in the back with a more 'regular' set of tables and seats in the front. I visited Red Crow yesterday with a friend who was visiting me from out of town. She and I loved the atmosphere and the feel of the cafe.. the menu was simple and fresh and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My friend had the coffee and she said it was very good and I had one of their bagels and when they say their bagels are good they aren't kidding. I really enjoyed mine and the visit from Casper just added to the experience. I'm glad I found this cafe and I will definitely be back!

It must be nice for these little places when their main customer has rarely travelled outside of Hamilton / Toronto area and 1 out of every 100,000 people may have actually travelled outside of Canada. For someone who has travelled - even just around Canada [though I have travelled to Europe as well] - this stuff is subpar at best. The drinks are watery - tasteless. The Panini oftentimes is still too soft to be proper & if you have the fortune of getting the avocado type is almost sickening because it's too ripe.
