I've been going to House of Java for over a year now and I can't imagine going anywhere else. The owner is extremely knowledgeable of coffee and explains things very well. Moreover, the large variety of coffee beans for a reasonable price makes every shopping experience fun and new. I would highly recommend stopping by for a fresh cup of coffee or some beans to try at home :)

First visit. Was recommended "Morning Glory" after poorly explaining my taste in coffee. Sipping said coffee as I type this. Delicious

Lauren Stephen

Best coffee in Hamilton in my opinion. The ice cubes in the iced coffee are a nice touch. Nutella latte is also fantastic. Usually has unique snacks as well. Highly recommend!

Shelley Lin

Very friendly, everything is so delicious, very reasonable prices, super clean

Wonderful place, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Awesome treats and great coffee. Excellent place for gifts. You can pick out the specific items you want to include in a gift set and viola they get presented in beautiful packaging that is sure to receive thanks. It's my daily stop at lunchtime, where I can always find a new treat imported to sample, in addition to the staples tea and coffee.

Excellent selection of whole bean coffees, especially dark roasts. The house espresso served is light but not weak and quite flavourful. Their darkest espresso (I think it's the James St. blend??) is quite robust and intense, to those who prefer a strong flavour. Bought a pound or it!

I have been a customer at House of Java for many years and I always will be! They have an amazing selection of coffee, teas, snacks and more. Laurie and Teri are always helpful and they make beautiful baskets for any occasion. I always do my holiday shopping at HOJ and my family loves it! A family business that has been part of Hamilton for 3 generations and hopefully many more to come ????

I love this little hole-in-the-wall coffee shop! They have delicious coffees, with quite a bit of variety (as opposed to only your standard latte, mocha, cappuccino and brewed coffee). It is not even two dollars for an extra-large cup of coffee! (Which is twelve ounces, if memory serves. The staff is super sweet and has always been really nice every time I've been there and there is just a really homey feel in the shop. They also sell chocolates, treats, teas, and various related things. My personal favourite is a cup of Irish Cream.

Went in to grab a warm bev in the last few minutes of closing time. Laurie is so sweet and the coffee is amazing, lots of dairy alternatives. They have a huge selection of cute individual hot chocolates.

You may purchase nuts anywhere; they are a great source of protein. Only the House of Java adds flavour, to the protein, as with their coffee; that is full of flavour.. I'm thankful, to be a loyal customer for decades.

My daughter bought me a beautiful basket from your store for Christmas, all the coffee in the basket was supreme. On the other hand all the chocolate treats, nuts, pretzel bark, popcorn, disgusting and stale. Taste like cardboard. I really hope you occasionally taste the treats you are buying or at least check the shelf life. Never again, you have lost my business.

Best cup of coffee in town. They have a great selection of whole beans for purchase and rotate their brewed flavours daily, I've never been disappointed by one yet. Good prices, especially for the quality of the coffee. Definitely worth trying!

I live in the area and Ive stopped on once or twice to look around. Nice little shop. Haven't had a coffee yet here, but I sure will be soon

great baked goods and their Sumatra roast is my favourite coffee around

Finally got a chance to stop by at this cute little cafe/shop. The shop has been there for 47 years and the business itself, which is family run, has been around for 100 years! Crazy! They have an array of decadent and interesting flavoured coffees. They’ve got a ton of sweet and salty snacks and specialty candy. A delicious selection of freshly baked goods as well. I forgot to ask the woman who helped us out her name, but she was super sweet, kind and very helpful. This is definitely a place you want to stop by if you’re walking on James street. They have 2 patio tables and chairs set up outside to enjoy your coffee.

Visited this place and was pretty much ignored; the brunette behind the cash didn't respond to my "hello" when I came in. The coffee was good, just unpleasant retail experience. Not much worth it for me to revisit this hole in the wall coffee shop in Downtown Hamilton.

Was just on our way to another coffee establishment when we happened to pass this cozy little joint and changed our minds...thank goodness we did...what a find! We were in and out pretty quick unfortunately, but it is on our list to go back to. Even the short time we were there, we had the impression this place was special...and that was before tasting the treats we bought. Pumpkin Scone with Maple & Walnut icing...it is memorable. If you're anywhere near Hamilton, go and check this place out!

Don't let the small storefront fool you: they carry a surprisingly plentiful selection of coffees, teas, baked goods, and sweets! Picked up some crinkle cookies to try with a latte and they were like soft, chewy brownies in cookie form, with a dusting of icing sugar on top! They even have it in ube flavour for those who aren't into anything super sweet. My favourite was the mint though which still had a very strong chocolate taste to them! There's not much parking around that doesn't get taken up fairly quickly (free nor paid) and the street gets quite congested during the day so your best option if you're driving is to park a little further and bring your coffee to enjoy in one of the nearby parks. Makes for a very lovely experience! P.S. the debit/credit machine doesn't have a tip function so you'll want to bring change or let them know beforehand!

Good selection of coffee and other treats. Whoever was working (around my age) was a little rude and dismissive. She laughed at me when I asked for a latte vs. regular coffee, but I was obviously buying beans and just wanted to treat myself (have been dieting for a while). Not the best service be weary.

Cosy atmosphere and a nice place to get your regular cup of coffee, tea or something more specialized. There's also lots of sweet treats made in house you can purchase to enjoy with your beverage. Expect prices similar to that of Starbucks although marginally better. Not a whole lot of space to sit, so I wouldn't recommend coming here to do your homework or bring a date.

Nathan Wilke

Selection of specialty coffee and teas in a unique storefront.

Been a customer of house of java since 1977. The best service and coffee in Hamilton. This store has great selection of coffee, teas and all the goodies that you need. Once you try their product you won't go back to the coffee chains. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Very cozy place. Cheers!

I've been in here a handful of times and their coffee and snacks are always great. But Laurie blew me away with her service when I asked her to put together a gift basket for my brother's birthday. He was so impressed and can't wait to try all the different coffee varieties she included! Highly recommended!

Lovely, little, easy-to-miss place on James. Probably the best place for take-away coffee in the immediate vicinity. Definitely the best place in the neighbourhood to buy coffee for your home. Nice selection and very good value. Also a great place to buy a small treat, gift, or stocking-stuffer. Tasteful and eclectic mix of foods, focused on sweets, biscuits, treats. This is my go-to place if I have bought someone a gift and want to add a little something.

Awesome as always

Alexandre Guevarra Veillette

This local coffee place is simply the best in town. For a quick fresh coffee, you get to select from three blends, which get rotated with others regularly. Dairy-free options are available! Even better is the huge variety of amazing flavours you can purchase for home in the form of bagged ground coffee, sized perfectly for the coffee pot. Favourites of mine are amaretto, blueberry, Hawaiian Hazelnut, and butter pecan. The wonderful smell alone once you get a pot brewing is intoxicating! Alongside coffee, you can also find a nice assortment of tea flavours, chocolates by the piece, fresh baked goodies and international sweet treats of all kinds. Sweeter than all of this is the owner, providing us with the kindest, most genuine, customer service. She makes the shopping experience feel like you're visiting a lovely neighbour, and that is priceless. This coffee shop is the whole package; quality, variety, affordability, customer service, local...Do yourself a favour and give it a try next time you're downtown!

Best gift basket in the world. The best coffee and tea supplies. Delicious baked goodies. You must go...you will not be disappointed.
