Even though I'm not a coffee person, I really like their lattes. It's a nice quiet place to just sit and read a book or to catch up with a friend over coffee. The service is great as well, the barista will bring your beverages up to your table even though he doesn't have it. Will be back!

Nice little coffee shop. Coffee was okay. Guess there are a lot of these coffee places. Only thing is the price. In europe i pay .60 of a euro for an excellen espresso. These shops want to charge 3 bucks. Some are okay and some are not. For 3 bucks you should be guaranteed excellent espresso.

Such a shame that with covid the lively tongue-in-cheek nautical decor and ambience can’t be appreciated fully. They serve a variety of warm lattes and coffee-esque drinks, cold drinks and have delicious scones and sometimes cookies as well. Loads of sunlight, a few parking spaces available and friendly service. Call ahead for takeout or drop in. They’re closing at 2pm right now bc of the weather.

Coffee and snacks here are great! The atmosphere is lovely as well and upstairs is a perfect spot to study (quiet, wifi, good coffee...what more could I ask for?). I love a special they have that includes 2 drip coffees and a shareable plate of bread with your choice of 2 spreads (my boyfriend likes the cream cheese and I would personally recommend the jam!). The only downside to Ark + Anchor is the menu...it’s really strange and makes ordering quite awkward. I feel like unless you know a lot about coffee, it’s really strange to order. I did ask one of the owners about it once and he helped me choose an espresso drink, but I find myself almost always getting the 2 coffees & toast because it’s just so much easier to order.

Great coffee, I would always get a cappuccino - excellent. However, the shop owner with the beard was quite rude. I wanted to pay $3 with cash, and the rest on card. I informed him that I would only be doing this twice, and instead of him politely explaining that it would be an inconvenience for them as a small business to do such a small debit transaction, he was rude and passive aggressive. He made me feel uncomfortable - you would think that a small business would try to balance customer relations and profit maximization, however, the Ark + Anchor was only concerned with the latter. Great coffee, but I will not be returning - even with my debit card. The last thing I want in the morning is to be hassled about the form of payment...Maybe put up a sign that says we don't do mixed payments in order to save your future customers of the rudness that I experienced. It's too bad because this place actually had decent coffee, but with the service I was provided, you can bet I won't be returning.

Also asked for a cup of water and that was met with a sigh and an “um okay..” - like asking for water is out of the oridinary. He seemed even more annoyed that I asked to redo the debit machine after accidentally hitting cancel. He seemed miserable and should not be working in the food service industry if you’re going to be that rude. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such terrible service.

Look the coffee is good and so is the atmosphere. Pricing for coffee alone is not all that bad either. The main issue I have with this coffee shop is that the owner has a very hostile attitude towards his customers. This ruins my experience each time I go there and on various occasions it has made me not want to go back. My other issue is that the food is way over priced I paid about $7 once for 1 Cup of pasta, it was served inside a regular sized coffee cup.

Ark and Anchor is perhaps the best espresso Cafe in North America. Their cappuccinos and lattes are perfectly poured. Their beans are delicious with only mild acidity. The venue is perfect for study, with a brightly lit, open, and quiet upper floor with free wifi. I've had cappuccinos all over the continent (Seattle, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal etc), and this place is perhaps the best, and even gives Italian espresso a run for its money. If you are looking for diary free options, look no further. The pour is incredible, I've never seen diary free latte look and taste as good as cows milk. The barista has a real gift. Update: It's winter time. One negative is that upstairs needs to be warmer and brighter. It feels a little cold. Adding more lights or switching to warm colour lighting (3k kelvin) could help, along with turning up the heat!

Food - fantastic. Foie gras was fantastic and schnitzel was absolutely superb mushroomy goodness. Meat and cheese board hit the spot and the bone marrow was good (not my gig, but it worked).We were passing through Hamilton on our way south and wanted to try an up-and-coming place for breakfast. The restaurant was about 15 minutes of the highway but turned out to be well worth the detour.

This is a really good place to study or do work if that’s something you need. It’s quiet, has lots of space and outlets, and lots of natural light. The coffee is really good as well. Do be warned though, there’s not a lot of real lunch options so try and eat before you get there.

Small personal touches like remembering names and conversations keeps their establishment warm and inviting. Patrick is an extremely skilled barista and Yigi's attention to detail preparing dishes is second to none! If you prefer to be a little more incognito, their spacious 2-level establishment with free wifi and parking in the back is perfect for quiet studying without the commotions of say, the Tim Horton's across the street. But don't just take my word for it, drop in to indulge in one of the best brewed espressos and coffees in Hamilton!

Had a great cappuccino. Would be nice if they had a few more food options. It has a comfortable, quiet, laidback atmosphere to work, study or read. Would Definitely come again. There's one hour free parking just North of King St. on Hess, if you're looking for a place to park.
