You will see all the reviews of people like you who consume the products of The Daily Grind Cafe & Bar (Coffee Shop) in Halifax (Canada).
As of day the firm gets a rating of 4 stars over 5 and this score is based on 127 reviews.
As you can read, the average of ratings is high, and it's founded on a very large number of feddbacks, so we may think that the rating is quite credible. If many people have bothered to give their score when they are pleased, it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to give opinions when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Coffee Shop is included in the category of Cafe.
Really slow and fairly expensive. Not a place to grab a breakfast and coffee without loads of time to just sit around and wait.
Cool place, nice decoration but croissant was far from what I expected... ????☹️
My go-to spot!
Beware, the food is horrible. We came for breakfast and had three different dishes. All of them made from depp frozen ingredients, absolutely nothing fresh at all...Some of the reviews seem to be Trumpish in nature, so be warned. We spend 50$ for nothing!
The atmosphere is amazing and the beer is unique. Strangely, the big sized Caesar salad was a regular sized plate with a very tiny layer of salad on it. Also, the washroom lock was not working and someone walked in while I was there! It was a good laugh anyway.
This café is so underrated. What a hidden gem. Seriously, from the super friendly staff to the artsy atmosphere and décor then to the fantastic waterfront location. This is a must-visit coffee shop in the city. Just give it a try and thank me later. Oh yeah you can even order beer here.
Nice cozy spacious place with all wood ambience. Servers are helpful and smiling.
Sometime last week, we went and the guy barista and the counter gal were Fast and real Friendly with their service. The staff were attentive and did a great job implementing the patio guidelines for covid safety!!
Great look, great service. A very pleasant place for a morning coffee
Great place to escape the bustle of downtown Halifax and enjoy either a coffee or a tea, or maybe specialty drink, I would recommend more food options, however understandable there would be less options later in the day.
A friend and I stopped here while walking by on a Saturday night, as the place caught our eye. Very cool atmosphere with a lit up sidewalk patio... exactly the kind of trendy place we were looking for to share some drinks & conversation. Lots of young people, but not too busy - we didn't have to wait for a seat outside. The bartender was friendly, the bouncer helpful, and the beer delicious! I'd be interested in going back during the day for coffee.
Quaint bar with and they host some interesting events. Not your mainstream place. Would definitely be back.
Friendly young men working. The drinks were okay, rather plain. I was not impressed to see the same Tazo Chai Latte from Costco that I use at home poured into my latte. $13 for two lattes I could have made at home. The space is very small and cramped, although nicely decorated. It was hard to find a table and it got hot and claustrophobic during wait.
(Translated) A nice atmosphere, very friendly staff and a selection of delicious food and drinks await the guest. Everything is freshly prepared. (Original) Eine nette Atmosphäre, sehr freundliches Personal und eine Auswahl an wohl schmeckenden Speisen und Getränken erwarten den Gast. Alles wird frisch zubereitet.
Great Coffee - Light interesting delighful linch/dinners. Buy lbs of coffee to take home. Interesting choice of coffee to take to a table witha choice delight - to sit and chat with a friend! Or....grab a coffee, squirrel yourself with you compute in the corner for a few work hours. A delightful delicious snack coffeehouse with a high quality warmth of comfortable comfort! One of those places that becomes a second home!
Staff very slow
Charming independent cafe just off Spring Road with tasty options for lunch and good coffee / espresso.
Tons and tons of great local items for sale!
The coffee and food were decent.
Travelling here from Toronto and I absolutely loved the food and coffee! I wish you guys could open up a Toronto location so I can be a regular! I had the Pesto Chicken and Tropical Smoothie Bowl, and I absolutely loved both! 10/10 would recommend as a great place to eat in Halifax!
Beer great. Lovely service. Worst nachos I have ever had. . A scant tablespoon of cheese , two pieces of jalapenos and we got the dregs of the bag of nachos - crumbs. Terrible.
The ambience is nice. The lattes are not. I gave it two tries - both times the oat milk was curdled and burnt. The food was also exceptionally mediocre. The onions were not caramelized and the brie was sparse in the sandwich I had. Overpriced.
Lovely spot with great coffee and the tastiest treats (mmm score square). The staff is friendly and I love all the local handmade items they sell in their shop, perfect for x mas gifts. We will definitely be back again.
By far the weakest, most watered down Iced Americano I’ve had in Halifax and the pastries tasted like they were resold from Sobeys or something. Groups of 2 - 4 were socially distanced on the taped down lines, then someone came in and passive aggressively advised customers that the café was over capacity and there’s lines for a reason; assuming the owner? However, no capacity clearly posted upon entry and no one working the door to advise/manage the line.
Food was just ok. Service (no table service, indifferent staff) was just ok. Quality was not sufficient to justify the price.

Meal type
Cool spot, good vibe, great London fogs, has a weird back entrance to a mall, but a really neat lower space that can be rented out
Coffee and Hot Chocolate were excellent! Great service also. Nice spot.
Excellent service, great music
Listed as open until 12 am, but it was closed at 8:45 on a Saturday night. Leaving a 1 to express my disappointment . Really wanted to check it out.
Great little coffee bar / restaurant ????
I love this place! Chill and friendly staff, good drinks, lots of art for soul replenishing!
It's fancy and very sheek but the drinks are okay and very expensive, huge fan of the art
Best coffee shop on the waterfront! What a cozy place to grab a quick bite or a coffee to keep you going all afternoon. Friendly staff and quick service make each stop at this location more memorable than the last. They are also open late and serve a delicious selection of local beers. You've got to check out the DG!
Service and refreshments were good. I didn't care for the music, tho.
Take out
Awesome team of hard working young people keeping the entrepreneurial spirit alive and well. My go-to drink spot. Awesome beer and cider on tap and an unbeatable happy hour!
Awesome coffee and service. Super chill spot.
Great coffee, great location, great vibes and great bagels!
This post is a response to Nino Antadze's One-star review. Note I am not affiliated to this café in any way. I just love it so much I decide to shed some light on this review. You will notice a few odd things in his or her review. 1. This person has only written one review (me too but I have my other account already reviewed this café). This suggests either this person is from a competitor or has had a very unpleasant experience here at The Daily Grind. It is tempting to get emotional and write a review like this. But I will prove why this is not the case. 2. Bad service - hands down the most friendly staff of all Halifax cafes I have been to and I have been to tons of them. Amazing staff. Notice how vague this guy word his or her review. If this person is Queen Elizabeth II then yeah I would say this coffee shop is not up to the standard of Her Majesty. 3. Bathroom without toilet paper - false. I have been here every day for the past couple of weeks and had never encountered the awkward situation when there was no toilet paper. 4. After COVID people are sensitive to such issues - Are "bad service" and "average quality food" are related to COVID? Cutlery looks clean to me unless you are some microbiologist trying to use a microscope and look for bacterial or viral species. They look really clean. 5. Interior and locations are lovely - cannot argue with this. But seriously, one-star seems too harsh so this person is clearly very grumpy at the time the review is written. However, provided that all the facts listed have been refuted, this is a scam solely aims to tarnish this cafe's reputation. Beware of scammers folks. And let's keep this online community a clean place without viral particles like this one.
My favourite place for finding that special gift ...always new stock arriving so it is worth dropping by for their delicious baking, great coffee , wonderful atmosphere .
Yummy simple food in a relaxed artistic atmosphere. The tuna bowl is wonderful as is the turkey chili bowl.
Trivia night is great
Great place to study or grab a glass of wine after yoga!
very poor service i went there to pick up an Uber eats order no one from the staff treated me well. I was standing in the line and their staff ignored me.They were just calling the people behind me in the line. I just want to say if you cannot treated them well then you should not do uber eats in you restaurant. Very disappointed with the service
The coffee is pretty, pretty, pretty bad. After a crisp and at times windy walk along the Halifax waterfront, we stopped in for a few coffees to-go. Flat white and an Americano were both watery and tasted bean-less. If you goal is good coffee, look elsewhere. Place sells location and artsy hype, nice decor. Was packed considering the times.
Love the ambience of the place. Stopped in for a late night coffee, which was great. My husband decided to order the Belgium waffle which was delicious as well.
Chillest place around, you want to get a coffee in the morning, check. You want a beer after work, check. Want something to satisfy the sweet tooth? Check. Good eats as well.
Lovely, twee atmosphere for pints; seems they only have drip coffee, which took me a bit by surprise.
(Translated) Super slow and for service. (Original) Super slow and pour service.
Great bites and coffee. Very friendly and attentive staff.
Great
Has potential. Great location, cozy atmosphere. Music a bit too loud, lots of Marvel movie soundtrack music going on? Barista did not know how to steam milk properly. Plants are a great touch. A good spot for students or Tinder dates.
The Daily Grind is one of my favourite spots to go in Halifax, NS. It has a chill vibe in the daytime which makes it a great atmosphere for grabbing a snack/coffee and doing some work. This versatile venue also offers bookings for parties in the evenings that is suiting for all sorts of celebrations. The staff and owners are highly knowledgeable and super helpful! I highly recommend checking out the Daily Grind or booking your next event there.
Reasonably priced and much needed afternoon caffeine boost.
Pretty disappointed in the food here. It took 15 mins to come over after ordering to figure out they didn't have an ingredient for the meal I ordered and when I asked about the alternative protein was ...the kid was quite unsure about it. Maybe have someone over the age of 17 preparing food. On top of that my sister's grilled cheese was black on one side..so that was a great waste of $35 ish dollars for a meal that looked like a 12 year old made. Might I add we were the only ones in there.
Great place to study
The owner Scotty is very accommodating and helpful. What a great hidden gem!
4 staffs this morning but not one of them greeted us and say nothing on how to order (since this is our first time in this spot we dont know how everything works) we just walked away. Very poor customer service. will not recommend this to anyone. 0/5
Great food, and good coffee, and not afraid to give recommendations of other cafe’s if they can’t have what you’re looking for. 10/10 will come here again for sure
Good spot for friends to meet. Cost efficient, and includes some alcohol beverages. Within a main business district of Halifax N.S.
First time going there and it's a really great space. Nice comfy atmosphere and friendly staff.
Service
Nice place, good food, and friendly people
Fun vibes here! Drinks are delicious and staff are friendly and always offer recommendations. My husband and I have been here a few times on the weekends for Afro Beats parties and had a really awesome time! Deducting one star - only because the food is subpar and it’s not a place I would recommend for food, but drinks and vibes for sure!
Coffee was good. The server who took care of me was awful... Didn't even look me in the eye. Jeezzz!!!
Beautiful location and wonderful patio. The full menu was not online or available to see until it is time to order. The person we were ordering from had terrible customer service skills. The classic was great, the smoked salmon was very light on the salmon. The chai latte was delicious but the stir stick provided was smaller that the cup it was in so you had to choose burnt fingers or a pile of sugar at the bottom of the cup. The lady that brought the food was certainly nicer. Overall experience was mediocre sadly. Unfortunately there are not a lot of nearby options.
Ordered a sandwich on whole wheat. It arrived on white bread. Lame excuse was COVID delivery issue. This is not an exotic item. My issue is we were NOT informed at point of sale that whole wheat was not available. Sour attitude of staff. Borderline passive aggressive service. Visiting from out of town. Has COVID not taught staff of this establishment to value their customers ? So many better options in Halifax. Choose wisely.
Very relaxing, friendly staff and great food!!
Nice atmosphere, expensive local beer
Excellent service! Such a friendly staff. Great experience
This place is awesome! Great vibes, great coffee and breakfast burritos, and great staff.
Wife and I stopped in yesterday and got a cappuccino, flat white, and a pack of cookies (2). Dipping the hard tasteless cookies into the tasteless drinks made everything edible! I cant believe we paid $5 for each medium sized $hit coffee. A van houtte from the office percolator would be an upgrade
Amazing place!! Great service ❤
Great coffee
Breakfast
Great place to have a quick bite, coffee and other refreshments. Great service and great people. There's even a bar for those who want a drink or two..
Basic quality food. Ok if you’re super hungry but not for you if you’re a foodie. Coffee is definitely not worth it. If you order the advocado toast, they’ll bring you a piece of bread with cheap guacamole salsa on it…
Very cool and chill spot. Friendly servers, great coffee and nice selection of craft beers!
6/5 Stars... Perfect location + excellent coffee. Great place to get some work done, or go for a low key pint.
Pedestrian.
Coffee is really not good. Very weak and tasteless. After requesting a redo we were met with a very sour attitude. Omelettes good however. Nice vibe but coffee very disappointing. If you are a coffee lover go else where.
Fantastic food, great service and a wonderful atmosphere. I highly recommend coming here for a get together, a date or for a nice treat!
The people working here are very friendly and I liked their in-house coffee from Anchored! I usually go with espresso based coffee, which they don't have here, but they do sell delicious baked goods which makes up for it!
Ordered an espresso and it was not drinkable. Very stale. My wife's chai latte had visible solid chunks in it.
Great prices, exceptional staff!
Friendly and sweet staff when I went in. Has a clean set up and fast service a little expensive however the coffee was well worth the price.
AWESOME SOCIAL SPOT
Great inspiring atmosphere, friendly staff. Perfect for working or catching up with friends. Had the chicken pesto sandwich and ginger cookie and both were just the taste I was looking for. New fav spot!
It's a pretty cool bar but not a place to go for coffee or lattes. They are gross
I've been dying to try this place for years after walking by it time and time again. I thought it was a coffee shop until I seen ppl drinking beer on the patio. Patio is in a nice location right off Spring Garden road. Sandwiches were freaking amazing!!! Nice selection on tap. Had to order food at the bar, no table service? menus were laid out nicely to order. It was honestly a bit confusing as I've never ordered at a restaurant like this. It's set up like a coffee bar, but I thought it was a restaurant? No table service as no one came to ask if we wanted another drink. Ordered a speciality coffee that had Bailey's that was curdled....chunky coffee is never good... I left it on the table. Couldn't drink it. Ordered two sandwiches that had the side item on the wrong plates. The salad was a mixed green mix from Costco with two cucumbers on top. Humus is bland. Bathroom is too far away if you want to have a few drinks, it's up two flights of stairs!, through a consignment store, Bridal shop and hair salon. Bottom line... Patio is great. No bathroom. No table service. Sandwiches are amazing. It's a coffee bar with a liquor license.
Really enjoy the vibe at Daily Grind, perfect for studying, reading, meetings and everything in between. They also are licensed -- with a decent variety of local beer. Though sometimes sold out of certain kinds. Food is generally good, if not amazing, and a decent variety of baked goods to go along with well made espresso drinks in the morning.
A single shot Americano from a machine not a barista, is $3.35 and has almost no taste. I don't know how they can tell you the price with a straight face. I just moved from Montreal and that's the high end for what you would pay for a barista made Americano, using third wave coffee.
Indie coffee shop, different experience
There food isnt bad but it's overpriced for what you get.....$4+ for 1 croissant?? Just go to TOA down about a half block and you can get egg danishes with bacon for $4.60. That fills you up way more and for longer, f@!$ outta here with 4$ croissants. I could walk to superstore a few minutes away and get a 6 pack for 2.50 lol Again , it's not a bad croissant but my god, do you do any price comparisons with your competition? Maybe this cafe is for richer people, that's possible, but your average person isnt going to happily spend that much on such a lackluster return
Love this spot.!!
This is the sweetest Cafe/Art bar. By day, this is the perfect place to shop for local gifts, study with a coffee or enjoy a beverage. By night, this place turns into a hip art bar that is suitable for private events or just hanging out with a group of friends/coworkers. The cherry on too; great customer service! Overall, great art, coffee and wine. What more could you want???
Went for coffee, great little spot tucked off of Spring Garden.
(Translated) Great beer "blonde" and delicious dips. Very nice staff, various small shops in the same building. (Original) Tolles Bier "blonde" und leckere Dips. Sehr nettes Personal, diverse kleine Geschäfte im selben Gebäude vertreten.
awesome staff and atmosphere
Very good breakfast and Coffee... Martin and Isabella from Austria
Special hot chocolate! So good.
Front staff is so amazing, professional and sweet! However, The food is below average, cheap and way overpriced for the quality you get. The individual making the food is seen having a smoke right outside the cafe and wearing very unprofessional attire. Please focus on upgrading your food quality. The food menu is very misleading.
Great local business and prime location!
Daily grind, we were in Halifax for 3 days, we’ve been there 3 days in a row. Nice vibe, cozy atmosphere, great staff and of course delicious coffee. Such great location, Right in front of Halifax waterfront. ???????????? IG: @LaptopVagabonds
Great spot for some morning coffee or evening drinks.
Uninspired, borderline passive-aggressive service from the girl at the counter. Drinks were average. Location was good.
Food was good with good service and friendly staff.
Decent breakfast sandwich. Nice relaxed atmosphere.
4.3 Nice hangout and ambience. Just gets a bit crowded at times. Good coffee and service.. sandwiches could be a tad bit cheaper.
Very pleasant staff, and nice ambiance.
Beautiful atmosphere for a coffee during the day or a glass of wine at night. Great that all the furniture and art is locally crafted.
Great food, staff was friendly and the atmosphere is nice.
Whether you need a coffee to go or are in the mood for a relaxing glass of wine The Daily Grind has you covered. A unique side experience is to be able to buy a handcrafted item made by local artisans. If you haven't stopped in yet, put it on your list while in the Spring Garden Rd area.
Truly a lucky find. Just happened on this place. Well worth stopping to have a drink.
Incredibly nice staff and cute atmosphere, but the worst drinks. Just tastes like hot water and a tinge of whatever you ordered.
Great products and drinks, amazing service!
-Worst customer service.. entered the cafe and within 5 min, server came to the table 5 times asking for order and making faces when we requested for few min to decide the order -Long wait time for a simple breakfast bagel -Size of the coffee is too small vs the price of the coofee..too expensive and not a great taste n value for money. WILL NOT RECCOMEND TO ANYONE
Went for coffee, only had medium roast, nice interior, generic coffee.
The location is beautiful and it is very quirky and cozy on the interior; however the service is absolutely terrible. I ordered a mocha and bagel but the mocha mix was in the supervisor’s car and they didn’t want to go get it. I changed my order to a chai and bagel and sat waiting for my bagel for twenty-five minutes before I went to follow-up. When my food was finally brought to me, it was the wrong order and I noticed during my time there, several people came back up to complain about not receiving their food. Would not return.
Such an inviting atmosphere
Pretty solid iced coffees, was perfect for the warm October afternoon walk.
Very disappointed with this place - bad service, average quality food, bathroom without toilet paper, and cutlery that needs to be replaced or thoroughly polished and cleaned. They should understand that after the Covid people are particularly sensitive to such issues. It's a pity because the interior and location are lovely.
Beautiful space, friendly staff and the best chocolate muffin I've ever had.
Lovely spot to enjoy coffee and study however, I was pretty disappointed with the bathroom keep up.
After Google got me lost trying to find this place for a bit of rest & refreshment from my walk back to my inn from the (sadly, lousy) Citadel Ghost Walk, I finally found it - and just in time/ my dam foot was about to go septic it felt... it’s VERY relaxed atmosphere in here; the ambience is soothing and I am enjoying the bad drunken karaoke emanating from the other room. The icy Coca Cola gave me immediate relief, due to being extremely thirsty, hot&sweaty, exhausted: but it was the London Fog that I came in most wanting and it’s really really good~ I’d give the place an easy five stars, but they were out of lobster so I couldn’t get the lobster roll. Other than that, service, atmosphere, my drink(s), everything was lovely in here.
Great coffee but had to wait a long time
Atmosphere is quite great, i like the lighting not too bright and not too dark...barista was accomodating and great, i liked my coffee not so much on the carrot cake, will recommend????
(Translated) A mix of alternative, modern and relaxed. In a relaxed atmosphere you can have a coffee and if you like to eat a bit. Sandwiches are also available, including vegetarian ones. WC is available on. There is no service at the place, you order at the counter. Cute little coffee joint ????????
Great place to eat, anytime of day. Breakfast was tasty. This place has indoor and covered outdoor seating options. Was able to sit with our dog on the patio and enjoy a meal. Staff members are friendly and provide a great experience. Would highly recommend eating here, or just grabbing a drink.
Much smaller than their birmingham location but its a clean and nice place to drink coffee. I really like their iced coffee latte.
The girls working here look so miserable, last time I came by was a nice young guy. Plus they served the aperol spritzer with a lemon instead of an orange!
Breakfast burrito’s actually fire. Had my toes curlin no KIZZY.
Parking meter has better service than this place.
An excellent experience. Friendly staff. Awesome private function. Thanks guys.
Coffee was great. Very small space but they make it work.
Cool place to have a meal or sip drinks with friends. The staffs are very friendly with good service mind. There are tables indoor and outdoor.
Excellent breakfast wrap!
If you like coffee, refreshing drinks, and a nice quiet environment for you to study or work, this is the perfect place! It's also a good spot for a first date.
The food was good but it took 25 minutes to make two breakfast sandwiches so if you're in a rush maybe not the best option but it is a really nice place to sit down and the ambiance is great !
Delicious coffee. The mocha was excellent! Service was great!! ????
Bartender was very friendly, good selection of drinks
A friend and I stop in quite often. We enjoy the informal atmosphere, the great service that is also casual and friendly, and the quality of the food.
Great place to hang and work from
Overpriced Ice Cream and the Girls working there were more concerned with their cellphones than customer service. You can get much better ice cream elsewhere and for half the price.
It was nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. Just wish there was more on the floor seating.
Cute little coffee shop. Great environment with great coffee.
Very accommodating to pet owners, great service
Nice spot
Cozy spot with a good selection of beverages. They have indoor and outdoor seating views of the Waterfront.
Ordered a Dark Roast coffee. Okay but not good. Far better options in Halifax. Atmosphere looked good. Specialty drinks may be better
Really expensive items for the bland items that end up being given to you. My friend got the herbivore sandwich and it was served on white bread when the menu said whole wheat, plus it didn’t have a few of the ingredients on it (which basically makes up the entire sandwich lol). The coffee we ordered wasn’t the best either, tasted pretty burnt. Staff seemed overwhelmed which deterred us from bringing our items back, and when reading reviews this seems to be the case often. Probably won’t be revisiting this location! Nice patio though, I feel like owners put more efforts into their aesthetic than they do training staff so no blame on baristas/cashiers.
