Halifax has many café's that serve excellent coffee and treats, but Espresso 46 shines above the rest. The coffee is complex, sweet enough to stand alone as espresso but with enough body to form beautiful milk drinks. The Bomboloni pairs excellently with a Macchiato, the sweet cream balanced out by the coffee's pleasant bitterness. The atmosphere is very unique and ideal for the morning commute.

The secret is out! If you want the best coffee in Halifax (my current order is double cappuccino but I've bounced around the delicious menu) - you have to go to Espresso 46. There are long lines sometimes but it's always worth the wait. Frederico is a delight and you can taste the passion in the coffee he makes. The sweets (gotta try the cinnamon bun or bomboloni) are divine. The savory options (served after 10:30) are also delicious. What are you doing still reading this? Go to Espresso 46!!

This is the best place for espresso drinks. The hours are limited, so plan accordingly. You're greeted with a smile and conversation, you get a discount for bringing your own take-away cup, and the latte is honestly, the best in the North End. It's just at the front door of a warehouse, where there is also a farmer's market Thursday-Saturday, and Affishianado Fish Market. I plan my days and errands around this place.
