Quintessential Halifax Café! Coburg Social has a vegan/vegetarian inclusive menu and an assortment of diverse breakfast and lunch foods including alcoholic drinks and Kombucha on tap (wow!). Fair prices, not cheap, but worth it for the quality food and kind service. The Cafè has some solid deals you should check out on Weekends and Taco Tuesdays/Wine Wednesdays. Highly recommend for a comfy student study spot or a relaxed casual meeting space for young professionals.

Nice spot but it can be hard to get good bang for you buck in terms of food. Bagel with humus or tomatoes and cucumber is decent, but orzo veggie salad is very expensive (and a bit bland) considering its size is meant to feed only a few ants. I'm even wondering if they made a mistake and forgot to fill my container enough. I'll never know now.

This is a haven for students! The specialty drinks are wonderful, the coffee roasts they use are great, and it's a nice, sunny atmosphere to get things done. Can get a little crowded, but that just helps with the classic coffee shop vibes.

Great local place. They became licensed in 2018, so they now serve alcohol. They renovated at the same time and added to their menu with some very tasty items. They promote local beers and food sources. Sunday night is jazz night. Always fun to drop by for some great music. Happy hour is 4-6 PM weekdays. Something on special each day. There's also 'Wine Wednesday' where they feature a couple of wines for special prices. During the day, it can be tough to get a seat with all the students taking up space with their laptops and coffee.

The cafe has a really friendly and active atmosphere. Great staff and a feeling of community. The food is good and I really like the daily drink specials. Be aware that it can get super packed and super noisy on most afternoons, so you have to enjoy a busy environment to enjoy Coburg Coffee.

A very busy place, as it is so close to the Dalhousie Campus, so if you are looking for a quiet place to study or chat with a friend, this may not be the best place for you, otherwise, grab a chair and join in the atmosphere.

I am a BIG cafe person, having lived in NYC, Toronto and Boston I hold cafes I visit to a high expectation. This place has always disappointed me for a) it’s customer service (other than Molly) and b) coffee/tea c) the food d) the price of everything they sell. The ambiance and set up is nice and cozy. I, though despised their customer service for the longest time, the girls were lazy and unwilling to help and most of the time threw a fit when they were asked to grab something from downstairs. The only staff member that is extremely welcoming and overly customer service oriented is Molly. She’s an exceptional server and is the ONLY reason I like to come back. Overall this place has a lot of work to do. Due to having a monopoly in the area, they get away with a lot however with the rise of new businesses things might change for the better, I hope, especially the super store tea selection (I’d suggest carrying specialty teas considering the price of the tea you sell).

I come here every now and then to study or chill. The atmosphere is nice.. There is outdoor seating because it gets really hot inside during the summer. The Wi-Fi works.... sometimes... It's really not super reliable. The drinks are expensive, better drink slowly. I really like their nitro brew iced coffee. It's a cold brew that takes 24h to make. I suspect it's seasonal.

The new renovations look good! It's now better equipped to be a University Centered Café, with several outlets and better seating. They get A lot of traffic but the back is nice and quiet. They also have a bar, so you can come for coffee in the am, or happy hour in the pm.

This is a great little spot tucked into a quiet neighbourhood yet only walking distance from downtown (20 minutes to the corner of Spring Garden and Barrington). The service was so friendly and going the extra distance when they found out it was our anniversary was certainly appreciated. The pizza and wine special was an incredible deal. It's primarily used by people who are doing work on laptops/reading from Sept-April, so it's often packed at peak hours and a bit noisy. There isn't a ton of 'comfy' seating but there's always cool art up on the walls, so it's got a nice atmosphere.

i wish they had the option to lower the sweetness of the matcha without lowering the amount of matcha :( that would make me very happy if they found a way to do that. but, overall i LOVE this place! such a great place to study and chat with friends. the food is a bit pricey and portion sizes could be better but everything tastes fantastic, i have yet to be disappointed. also a great selection of pastries and teas. as far as espresso goes though, it tastes pretty bitter/sour. i dont know if it’s cuz of the bean that’s used, or the machine, or the frequency at which the espresso machine is cleaned, but i cannot drink it black here (and most places i do drink my coffee/espresso without anything added). however, everything else about this place makes the espresso issue not even that big of a deal! i love it here! best soups in town.

Great place for coffee, treats and also lunch items. During peak times it can be impossible to get a seat. Especially when students are around. They do have great seating though. Outside there are many deck chairs and tables. It's a great place to hang out with friends and also go to study. All their food is delicious. You will also notice lots of local art on the walls and post it boards for advertising. I enjoy their bagels with vegetables particularly.

Such a cute little cafe which is perfect for study dates or just catching up with a friend. I got a slice of banana bread and tea, which were both very good. The atmosphere is so nice, it’s open, light, just a bit noisy though. There’s a wide range of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Taco Tuesday’s are also amazing. Only complaint is that the wifi is terrible, I’d love to just sit and study here for a bit but the wifi is sadly never good enough. Side note: Love the take out window idea they incorporated during the covid-19 outbreak!

Love the atmosphere, unlike some of the other cafes, has reasonable hours and a good amount of social-distanced seating. One of my favorite places. One major downside is that it consistently takes a long time to get my order. It is not uncommon for me to wait 20-30 minutes after ordering (I rarely order food, but this does not seem to impact the wait time).

I only started going there after their renovations. It’s beautiful. The place is great with nice arts and air conditioning and a nice view. My favourite place. It’s always packed so make sure you go early or you won’t get a seat. In the summer without students, it’s a bit less busy.

Not sure if it's the beans or the way they make it but it has a very strange bitter after taste. it felt like black even though it was a latte. the sugar after made it a but drinkable. Coburg Coffee is one of those places I would pass by on the bus to Dal and always forget to check out. I finally needed a place to go this summer to get some studying done and I'm really glad I went. There's nothing really different about this coffee shop. The menu is standard (I had a grilled panini and it was pretty good). The biggest selling points to me are that there are lots of tables and free wifi. This is very much a standard university cafe. Here are some things I think are good to know before going. Every time I've gone it has been pretty busy. Because there are so many people, I'd suggest bringing headphones if you're going to study. The food is a bit expensive. The panini I got was about $10 with no side where I would expect other places to sell it for closer to $7. The food selection is also pretty limited. Honestly if it wasn't for the location, I think there are nicer cafes around Halifax. But I don't have any huge issues with this place. I'll definitely be back!

Although the latte art was so simple, the latte was not simple???? The coffee flavour was strong The milk foam was firm ???? As for the BLT bagel, the bagel was chewy which matched well with coffee????????

Currently sitting in Couburg Social and have been waiting for a bagel cream cheese for over 50mins. Either they are baking the bagel and making the cream cheese from scratch or their service is extra slow. I have even reminded the staff if they have forgotten and they said its on the way. Could be on the way from Montreal... Idk

Excellent staff and high quality drinks. The only thing I wish was that the location was bigger - too loud/crowded for me to stay with my drinks, but I still stop in for a great coffee to go.

For the price and quality of coffee, you're better off walking the extra 2 blocks to starbucks. I ordered an iced mocha that was essentially slightly cool regular coffee with a 1/4 squirt of chocolate sauce...for $6. This was my first and last visit. Again, you're better off walking the extra two blocks.

I have always had bad experiences at Coburg social, the staff are always very rude to me, and the drinks are never good. The barista today, after already getting my order wrong, slammed my coffee on the counter in front of me, didn't say anything, didn't provide a take-out lid, or even inform me that it was my coffee - as there were about 5 of us in line for to go drinks, and then walked away. I ordered a latte, the soy milk was lukewarm and it just tasted like dirt. I even applied to work here at the beginning of the year as I have barista experience and I live in such close proximity, but after being asked to come in for an interview, when I replied to confirm the date and time no one ever got back to me, even after I sent 5 follow up emails. This place genuinely is awful. PS, I live right next door, and our house is infested with mice - likely because we live right beside a restaurant... I personally wouldn't buy anything, especially food, from here again. If it was possible to give 0 stars I would.

Over the last few months, the one study spot with good food and drinks has had TERRIBLE wifi. As a student, I have always loved coming here to work all day and have access to all the great food they have. However, it has become increasingly difficult to do this because their wifi constantly disconnects (i.e. at least every half an hour, if not more). Even though I enter in my email address and I am told I have an hour of access, it kicks me off almost immediately or just never connects again. This unfortunately has prevented me and my friends from returning because we can't actually get any work done! I hope they rectify this issue soon because I haven't had this experience at any other coffee shop, but would really like to return as a customer at Coburg!

Breakfast burrito is all a brick of way-too-hot-and-dense egg with no flavor except for a bit of bacon here and there. Coffee, meh. They need cooking classes or to become inspired to do better -- or both! Sorry to compare but if I were going out ten times, and had only the two cases to choose from, I'd go to Dilly Dally all ten, and not Coburg.

The decision to require vaccination for take out is pretty disappointing. I believe that vaccinations are right for the vast majority of people, but I also think a masked person should be able to get a coffee to go whether vaccinated or not.

Always a great spot however their covid modifications make sense except their 2 hour limit on occupying a table. Their kitchen staff is seen not wearing a mask through the window to the kitchen and they put it on when they leave the kitchen and they know customers will see them. Same with barista, doesn’t wear mask when making drinks. Very disappointed to see them only taking a performative interest in covid safety

Don't make the mistake of coming here with expectations. I have given up on ordering food prepped in-house because of the inconsistent quality, portion sizes, and ingredients. I once returned a wrap advertised as vegan four times before I was able to get a sandwich without bacon, cheese, and chicken--adding about half an hour before I got the food I expected to be grab-and-go. Both drip and espresso drinks are inadequate for the price-point, despite using North Mountain beans. Despite serving highly priced, mediocre food & drink, the charming and attentive staff manage to retain my business.
