What a disappointment it has been to watch the transition of ownership. As a proud employee with Bernie for two years, I did my best to help reopen the cafe with the integrity and quality of service that I had loved so much before. We were all so proud of the cafe and treated every guest with great care and respect. Sadly, there is no warmth to the decor now, no artwork, no community board, and the staff are discouraged to get to know the customers anymore. The new policy is to not let regulars watch and talk to you while you make their drinks on the bar. There are no longer daily options for gluten free/vegan. Bathrooms are not cleaned often and the store is not up to standards. It broke my heart to watch all that we built fall apart; to hear so many discontent guests. That place was home for me since I moved here to Guelph, and I built all my closest frienships there with the staff and regulars. Hoping the new staff can get it back up to speed soon, as there were many gems on the new team. I will no longer be with them after my experience as an employee and customer.

Great atmosphere, great staff and delicious treats. I don’t normally drink hot drinks, but this place is special. A couple cons: Didn’t get my receipt (partially my fault as well, and it’s a little chilly inside as well- great for cooling down from the summer heat but not so comfortable able longer periods. This place is a definite “must-stop” if you’re near campus and want to grab a quick bite and a coffee.

Ever since the University of Guelph took it over. It’s ran no better than a school cafeteria. No consistency in staff like the previous franchise owner. I ordered a non fat latte and the kid looked at me with this blank face expression. As if he hadn’t a clue what I was asking for. Of course that was after I waited for him to put his cellphone down after he spent over a minute playing with it. I’ve been going to that Second Cup location for over 20years during the various previous owners. Needless to say not impressed with the new revamp of this coffee shop. Tim Hortons has a better atmosphere now ????

(Translated) The employees are always very nice and go out of their way to satisfy customers. I go there very often and I notice the same problem EVERY TIME, there is only ONE employee. This morning I waited 7 minutes for an answer to the car service and once I arrived, I was asked to wait again. I am very disappointed that the manager does not see that his employees are overwhelmed in the morning and that the customers are dissatisfied. I have seen people left on several occasions because of the wait. In addition, it often lacks viennoiserie and lactose-free milk. De plus, il manque souvent de viennoiserie et de lait sans lactose.

Nice location but staff had difficulty serving our larger group of 9. Staff did not automatically give receipts and double charged our drinks. Worse yet, when the error was brought to their attention, fellow gave push back that he could have possibly made an error, even though he should have caught that an order of 2 drinks should not cost $33! Not impressed.

I expected it to be much bigger after the reno but it's a definite improvement. Wifi is wifi light didn't make me happy that I couldn't get on line fully, but what can you do. Coffee is excellent and you can study and/or socialize in a cleaner location.

Terrible operation since the takeover and makeover. Staff don't know how to use the till, negotiate the points program, few quantity and selection of beans in a bag .... only a handful of customers hanging out there. Yuck. Will cash in my points when I have the 1,000 for a 312gm bag, and adios!!

I just wanted to address the reason there has been a recent influx of negative reviews for this location. This Second Cup was recently bought and remodelled by the university and a lot of people are quite upset that the previous staff were replaced. However, this is in no way a reflection of the new staff and I consider it unfair for people to be leaving cruel comments just because their friends were let go. I have been coming here everyday before school for several months now and the new staff are just as friendly and competent as the last was. To those that have said the coffee is not as good, THIS IS A CHAIN! The coffee will never change. The new look is different, I wouldn't say it is better or worse. It is brighter and more spacious at the cost of coziness which I actually prefer in the morning but this is 100% subjective (my girlfriend preferred the the previous atmosphere).

First time i go today with my wife after that place closed down for awhile and re open for some reason... I'm a coffee lover besides there is a big flag saying free coffee outside the coffee not hot enough i take my coffee black imagine u add milk or cream...finally we paid for our coffee and the flying flag outside saying free .... I will never go back to this place again.....
