I have gone here a few times usually when we get sick of waiting for a table at the Casino *Who wants to wait three hours when you know it's just a ploy to make you spend money at the tables.* Luckily the Old English Pub is amazing for food. Great staff and regular specials means you'll always have something to experience in the downtown core of Gananoque.

Stopped here on ride through the Frontenac area on our way to Brockville. Quaint little pub with friendly staff. The food was really good and hot. Good prices. Lots of variety on tap. We will be stopping by again on our way through next time. Check it out!

Sunday evening might not be the best time to come if you’re used to good old fashioned Canadian pub (service) experience. But you can’t blame Julie (our “server” basis the bill we got), she had a lot of assumptions about us, non-white clientele, she might otherwise be used to. Come here for the beer selection and if you’re used to shoddy service.

This place is a gem! Great friendly service and pretty good food. We went for the traditional "English fare" with Bangers & Mash and Shepherd's pie, but the real star was the Apple Crumble. It was delicious and had an amazing homemade taste. They also have a great selection of local craft brews. Definitely bring bugspray if you are gonna be out on the street patio as the mosquitoes are no joke!

As an Englishman I usually groan at "English pubs" in Canada. A pub in England is a social hub, seldom visited for food unless it's Sunday lunch, just some mates a few pints and maybe a few bags of crisps (chips). So the concept is usually flawed for Canadian consumption. However this is a great spot to eat. The fish and chips was great. No pretense in the batter with loads of baking powder and a strong beer like the trap many other places fall into. Just the right batter for the cod (which I was happy to see as an option instead of the usual haddock) the kids menu was good. 4 English adults and 2 kids left full and happy.

Pop was flat. Waited an hour for apps, server confesses she never placed the order. Ask for soup, server says no need our orders are being plated. 30 minutes later still no food. Finally get our food and it's cold. Not warm, actually cold! Server says she can't do anything, offers soup instead of main...? Server proceeds to silent treatment for the rest of the meal... Ended up eating dinner at McDonald's.

The food was so so. The wife ordered a vegetable pie, and the vegetables were over marinated and became vinegary and almost tasted pickled. The Brown ale looked more like a lager, and the saving grace was the picture of Churchill.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this restaurant, but we were very impressed! The fish & chips had great quality fish and they were perfectly battered (not too much and not too oily). Great selection of beers and friendly service. My only concern is related to false advertising. Fish and chips cannot be advertised as "2 for the price of 1" if you have to pay more to get 2 for 1... this logically does not make sense, so if this was changed it would be nice. However, I Definitely would return :)

Food is delicious. Served quick and hot. Had the fish and chips - nice filling tasty meal. UPDATE of review. I had to remove 1 star because my wife had liver and onions. While they were ok, when I checked the bill, was charged $1.50 for gravy. Never ever been charged for gravy before for something that should come with the meal. Not like it was a extra side of gravy,... just ridiculous.

Great service! We arrived 10 minutes before the kitchen was closing without knowing and our waitress was able to get us the food we wanted. Plus gave free sample of beer when I didn't know what to order. Food was great! Would recommend the wings if you like them crispy.

Updated rating. August 2017. Removal of 3 stars from July 2015 For a pub, "English" pub for that matter. Fish and Chips should be a staple. But when whoever is on the fryer can't cook a French fry, when given two opportunities to do so you have an issue. Unblanched freshly cut fries. Hard and raw in the middle on both occasions. Apparent from the dirty fryer oil in the second batch since they came out dark brown despite still being under cooked. Sadly this seems to be an issue with the entire town. It's gone hugely down hill since I grew up here. Further So, the owner of the establishment was at the bar while this was happening and seemed to care less about the issue. Strong recommend avoiding. As I would any place with a help wanted sign in the window in the height of tourist season in a tourist town.

The owner was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. Our waitress was very nice, also professional at her job. The food was amazing English Fare, so delicious. We sat on the patio and it was a very quaint atmosphere. There was a wide selection of craft beers with a taste for everyone. Very satisfied and definately will return.

The atmosphere is very genuine. But the food is off the charts good. If you like liver and onions they come highly recommended by me ! And the burgers and fish and chips were outstanding. Almost everything is made in house. It was like being in an English Pub overseas !! Give them a try. You wont be disappointed.

My Girlfriend and I were just there on the day of the Gananoque Santa Claus Parade. We stopped in for lunch and it really felt like an old English Pub. They had it a decorated for Christmas and it felt very festive. The staff was so friendly and the food was excellent too. We went back later in the afternoon for a snack and a drink before the Parade started. The owner was outside giving out free hot chocolate and taking donations for the local Food Bank. It was nice to see a local business giving back to the community. I'm sure other Gananoque businesses give back too but we were lucky enough to be at The Old English Pub at that moment in time. Can't wait for my next visit to Gananoque.

Avoid if at all possible. My wife's salad featured frozen lettuce. The soup was cold and inedible. Both dishes were sent back and removed from the bill. We ordered potato skins this was completely unbelievable, they were just the peelings from potatoes (I am assuming from making mashed potatoes). Menu states with bacon ,cheese green onions and sour cream. There was no cheese or bacon but for some reason drenched in sour cream. The baby stuffed yorkies were very good other than for some reason they to were drenched in sour cream. WHY? My burger was ok other than being very greasy but featured the same frozen lettuce.

I love this place. food was absolutely delicious. Our waitress was very friendly. Just a suggestion to the store, put a sign where it shows that customers can sit anywhere so they don’t wait for someone to come. Other than that, great place, great food and great beer!

Horrible customer service!!! I Strongly advise to find another wonderful restaurant in the area that is much more worthy of your business. After reserving our table 2 week prior and a call from the restaurant confirmation, there was a problem with a reservation. The waitress was able to finally accommodate our group with 3 separate tables. Once we were seated and didn’t even get a get a chance to remove our masks, the owner of the restaurant rudely and aggressively came to our table and told us to “get out “ from the premises because two people in our group were not wearing masks while walking towards our table. We tried to explain to the gentleman than the two people are not able to wear masks due to asthma and breathing problems, he wouldn’t even hear it. We advised the gentleman that we are all fully vaccinated, he wouldn’t listen to reason. He repeatedly said that he is the owner and he can do what he wants, as well as saying that he is the busiest restaurant here and doesn’t need our business. The owner himself removed his mask, and after pointing it out to him, he put it on improperly over his chin and part of mouth. The owner completely refused to listed to any rationale or any explanations and threw the entire group out onto the street in the rain.

To begin, this restaurant is extremely busy so be prepared to reserve or wait. If you plan ahead, be prepared for a good meal. Our group ordered a bunch of English classics ranging from fish & chips, shepherd’s pie, and banger’s and mash and were not disappointed. The staff knows what they’re doing. They may not be as friendly as some other waiters/waitresses but understand the amount of work they have to do since there always so many customers. Overall, an enjoyable eating experience in a cute town.

For a pub that promotes itself as being old English, they really need to revisit the old English fish. Gravy for the fries was bland as well. The beer selection was good,and the atmosphere/decor makes you feel like your really in an old pub. Fix the kitchen, and easy 5 stars.

Food good , service good but...draft beer selection which is exclusively " local" is so local there are to few options for beer lovers. Not everything " local " is acceptable to everyone's interest. What's wrong with some nice European Pilsener selections? Otherwise a great place. Again,the food is good as is the service usually but being a pub its a lot about the beer.

The place was very disorganized. Owner did not follow health Canada regulations by not wearing the mask at all or not wearing it properly just partially covering his mouth. Staff was not instructing clients to follow health Canada protocol allowing maskles people in and or not instructing customers of the safety regulations.

We were on our way back from a lovely weekend. Decided to go here to eat. I ordered the special, prime rib my husband the shepherd's pie. We waited 40 minutes at which time the server said while passing that they were just putting my prime rib on now. I said but we have been waiting at least 40mins and it's the special. Shouldn't it be ready. She told me they make everything to order. It's not McDonald's We waited another 20 mins. Still no food. We left. Maybe they should hire some of the staff from McDonalds.

Avoid. We always try to go out after the tourists have gone and left for the season. When we arrived we were the first of 3 couples waiting. They were busy, but had a lot of open tables. When greeted, we were informed they had larger tables available but none for parties of two. She went to discuss with her manager, pointing outside at the couples waiting, and came back. The six of us were informed that there was a 30minute wait for parties of two. We all left. They always say support local, but turning down six people to wait for a party of six that could or could not walk by on a cold fall evening reminds us all that some businesses are not worth supporting, even if they are local.

I don't know what place the complainers here ate at! We've eaten at the Old English Pub many times over the past three years; we always had a wonderful meal, whether it was fish and chips, seafood chowder, the Yorkies, a hamburger, etc. Prompt and incredibly friendly, courteous service; a warm welcoming atmosphere at the pub, with the owner often present and willing to chat. Even when every seat is taken (which is often the case!), the service is first-rate.

Stopped here for a bite after the Lost Ships Cruise, Gananoque Boat Line - had the burger - delicious! - and Mike had the Club which had huge slices of chicken breast! Tasty! Great service, great atmosphere!

Went here with a large group (made reservations), waitress refused to take orders for entrées before taking all orders for apps and serving those first. After taking entrée orders for half our table, the remaining half of the table were told we had to wait further to order our entrées. It's been over an hour and we still have yet to order. So can't speak to the food unfortunately but the service and organization is lacking.

Decent place but misses the extra touch to make it great. Food is good but nothing special. Fish and chips batter tastes good and not too oily but soft instead of crispy. Burgers are ok. Fries are good. Have a beer and some french fries with mayonnaise and you will have a good time.

I'm writing this review on behalf of my mother who doesn't have a google account. She recently ate at this pub on Wednesday July 22/15 around noon. She had ordered shepherds pie and got really sick. After my mother had contacted the Pub to inform them of the situation, she was told the owner would call her back regarding the matter. She has called about 4 times and to this day has yet to receive a phone call from the owner. My mother, as well as family and friends will never eat here again! Poor food & poor customer service!

Good beer menu and food. While the staff is friendly, the service is generally slow. it was 15 minutes to get a menu, despite a reservation, 30 minutes to take an order, and an hour to get a rushed order of chicken fingers for the kid. Service could be improved by a busser and/or a hostess, who could probably be the same person . The last time I was here was three years ago and the pace of service hasn't improved, and one of the reasons we stopped coming regularly when we came home to visit .

the waitress was really nice, was with my girlfriend, ordered drinks and then ordered food. my girlfriend ask for vegiterain pie. we see the waitress punch it in and instantly hear a "ding" from the kitchen bell and the cook say something along the lines of "i'm not f***ing making that" waitress comes back and says they're out of vegetarian pie. we could have ordered something else but after hearing that decided to leave. wasn't happy. sorry to make you do your job

This was the 2nd restaurant my husband and 2 kids tried to go to in one day. We got seated and then told no food at the restaurant as kitchen is short staff and they will not have more employees in for 30 minutes atleast. Odd that you would seat a family without telling them this first. So a little disappointing in lack of communication on such an important thing.

Great craft beer, excellent specials. We had the 2 for 1 cod fish and chips. We couldn't finish it, as the cod was 8 ounces. Chips were great too, and they had cider vinegar for the chips. The place was busy, but we were in and out in an hour. We'll be back.

Brutal customer service, even worse food. They trap you in the entrance next to people trying to eat, then yell at you for trying to respect covid 19 legislation. The woman who was working was incredibly rude. The food is barely passable as pub food. I've never felt so ripped off and insulted. If I could I would give 0 stars.

We arrived with no reservations and originally were told it could be easily an hour but the hostess ended up seating us a few minutes later outdoors, which was beautifully decorated. The music was extremely loud, and the waitress (Caitlin) was totally understanding and kind enough to turn it down. The lobster roll was delicious and the truffle Mac and cheese was good but I didn’t find it really tasted of truffle. Good comfort food all the same. We had apple pecan crumble and ice cream which hit the spot. The waitress was the sweetest and bent over backwards for us!

Went their at 8:20pm, waited to be seated for a few minutes and then someone finally came to inform us the kitchen was closed. They said it was due to COVID and short staffing. Call ahead if you plan to go. Menu looks amazing and I arrived hungry. May stop in again just to try the food yet.

My wife and I were looking for a local spot to grab some dinner and this more than fit the bill! Walking into the restaurant we were greeted with the look and feel of an authentic English pub (we were in England less than a year ago). We were greeted and seated quickly by Jenny, who was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The Food was EXCELLENT, the best Fish and Chips I've had in Ontario, by far! The Baby Yorkies were a meal on their own. They have an excellent choice of beers. I never take the time to write reviews, but I had to for the Old English Pub! It is a real gem. If you're in Gananoque, this is a MUST VISIT!

A pleasant environment. Wait staff show lack of knowledge of the menu. Had to ask the same waiter 3 times the same question. Not very friendly. I honestly think the place has potential but definitely not right now! Washroom toilet stall has a broken lock...door keeps swinging open. I think that a bit more maintenance needs to be addressed by management. Food.... Potato Skins were luke warm. Soup of the day was red Pepper. It was supposed to be hot but came to the table cold. Curried Lamb sliders were mediocre. Overall, the dining experience at this establishment was sub par. Unless you were absolutely drunk and came to this establishment to recover would you find this this place passable. If youre not drunk, walk a couple of door to the next establishment, you'll be treated better!

First off, the waitress Brittany is by far the sweetest and nicest waitress we have had serve us in a while. She was super friendly, and gave off a really nice vibe. We were in town visiting from Toronto. The food was delicious and the outdoor patio is gorgeous. We really enjoyed the service at this restaurant and would definitely recommend this place to friends and family visiting Gananoque. We will also be back ! PS, the fish and chips were the best we had in a while!

We had dinner on their dog-friendly patio last night. We got under the awning just in time before the skies opened. The wait staff and owner were all very welcoming to our pup with lots of attention and cookies. The owner taught our son an oddly compelling dice game called "Shut the Box", which we all played while waiting between courses. The food was typical British pub food: hearty, but very flavourful. While we were there, a large group was asked to leave for not following the masking guidelines. Two of their party have since left scathing reviews. I would read those comments with a hefty dose of salt. It is difficult to take someone seriously when they wear their mask like a yarmulke.

Disappointing and disrespectful We visited the restaurant in August 2021. The first day, they didn’t accept us without a booking. The next day we booked a table in the patio and we were there 5 min before our booking and they said we need to wait for a table to leave (it was very obvious that they just seated 3 tables). We waited for 20 minutes and then had to leave. Their excuse was: "the reservations have shifted..." Very poor management. Maybe their food is good, but we couldn’t manage to reach to ordering stage at all. Very disappointing. I don't suggest this place.

My Wife and I recently "stumbled" across The Old English Pub, and found a gem. Not only was the food excellent, but the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming, and our Server, Stephanie, was exceptional.....she was very patient with our quirks, and made our evening very pleasant. We were there Monday evening and had a lovely experience. Normally quiet on a Monday night, but the restaurant was full and had a large table of 20 people as well. With only a few waitresses on, we still were greeted with a smile, had fast service, food was hot and delicious. Also had a variety of different craft beers from around the area which is nice. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for some good pub food!

Decent atmosphere much like most english style pubs. Clean and well kept. Friendly attentive staff. I've come here once or twice a month for several years and have never been dissatisfied. The menu has been evolving and while typical pub fare that is reasonably executed is available, I appreciate the growth in their repertoire, not just same old same old. The greater number of draught beer choices than is usually available in most places is pleasing as well, with a healthy selection of local and relatively local good quality options. Prices are in line if not a bargain considering this is not a dollar menu type establishment, and I'm glad its not. Definitely recommend, definitely will continue to frequent this fine place.

I give this 5 starts because all of my past visits have been great. Lots of great craft beers on tap, great pub food and (typically) a very friendly bar tender who will let you pick music if you find yourself there later at night. My last visit wasn't so great, the staff was super unorganized. My girlfriend and I popped in because they displayed a sign with a special we were interested in as we were walking by. We went in, sat at the bar and ordered our meals (to go). After ordering we grabbed a beer and overheard another waitress say that they were out of the prime rib steak that was included in the special. When I asked about it, I was told that what we ordered was a lunch special and there was only one piece of prime rib left, so we could only get one of the specials we ordered. Then the waitress went on to tell me the sign should have been taken down an hour before in a tone that suggested it was my fault.

The staff at the pub was excellent. The food unfortunately failed to deliver on flavour and quality. The beef pie was a bowl of gravey with little to no flavour filled with frozen vegetables and actually 3 pieces of beef. No lie. The flakey top normally on this was more like a cracker dropped on top. I can't believe they pass this off as an old english pub. The chicken club was very well executed. The muscles were good but not outstanding. The potato skins were good but again average at best. Luckily the local stout beer was very good. So if your looking for a drink and a chicken club this is the spot. To be fair we didn't sample the whole menu but one out of 4 meals being good is not a good night.

We have been regular visitors to this pub for 7 or more years crossing the border from upstate NY at least 3 times annually often specifically for lunch here. The fish and chips has been the prize with exceptionally good, crispy beer battered cod. Our visit last week was a great exception. That lovely crisp batter was gone replaced by a doughy substitute. Reluctantly, we sent the food back. What was returned was minimally better. It seemed that the batter was perhaps too thick or that the oil temperature was too low or the time of frying too short. The cook, when informed of our disappointment with the second portion, suggested that in future we choose panko breading! Evidently the cook missed the point. I hope this place returns to it's former status, however, we are reluctant to try it again any time soon.

Our waitress was so kind and very helpful! The drink selection is good but the food is nothing to write home about. The portions are very very small. We had lobster dip which was 90% melted cheddar cheese on top the bowl it was it was meant for like a side of gravy. Not exactly.great for an expensive appetizer. We also had the halibut which was a really tiny piece and what was there was mostly batter. Overall it was an ok meal and we really enjoyed the service but due to the price and leaving hungry I will pass on returning.

Result: fantastic waitress, great food, great choice, fair price. Got: 1 stuffed potato skins, 1 curry chicken and 2 chicken tenders with fries. 2 gingerales, 2 medium amber beers. 1spiced apple crumble cake with peacans and vanilla ice cream. 103 Canadian dollars. 72 euros. Don't waste your time. Once we were finally seated (we had a reservation) we placed our order, then waited over 20 minutes for our drinks. My husband was brought the wrong beer, our waitress just said "no it's right" and walked away. After 45 minutes we received our main course.... No appetizers! Waitress wasn't overly concerned that they were forgotten. So... Service was absolutely awful. I will give props to the chef... Burger was really good. That being said, the horrible service and flippant waitress ruined the experience.

We expected a wonder meal and experience as the Pub was recommended by our hotel. It has a nice ambiance. Live music was playing. I orderd my favorite pub fare, fish and chips. How can you go wrong ordering fish and chips at an English Pub. Wow! The batter was thick and dry like an old wool sock. The piece of fish buried inside was miniscule. I naturally complained and the waiter promised a new piece. Some 30 minutes later after I had finished all the fries and cole slaw the new piece of fish arrived. It was a duplicate of the first one. Of course I wasn't charged for the meal but I left hungry and disappointed. Hopefully this was an isolated incident. I can't believe this is the way the fish is always prepared. It just boggles my mind.

We visited while on vacation. I wasn't too hungry so I just had the lobster dip. AMAZING!!! The waiter was very welcoming, knowledgeable about the menu. If we are ever in the area we will definitely go again.

Very courteous and fast service, fun decor, good selection of craft beer, but very disappointing food. "Steak and Ale pie" was a dish of meat and gravy with a few pieces of corn and peas. It wasn't a pie. There was a sad piece of tough puff pastry covering less than 1/4 of the dish. The fish burger was soaked in grease and inedible. There was no offer to adjust the bill for inedible dishes on either visit. With a better chef this pub could be great.

Stopped in for cpl drinks with my bf, my bf was rudely scoffed at when he asked bout pints n the server actually walked away without pouring him a pint or offering suggestions, we both agreed to never go back...honestly jokes with the service here ????

Didn't have any halibut so got the chicken pot pie. It was overdone and very dry. Had to ask three times for vinegar and ketchup, fries were okay, but not great. Wouldn't pay a second visit. Disappointed!

When I first moved here, this was my "go to" restaurant. I'd bring guests here and they'd love the atmosphere, the burgers and the beer. The service was impeccable and the pace was reasonable. Then, 3 years ago I had a horrendous experience. The wait staff was rude, the fries were burnt and the burger was undercooked and greasy. I asked them to retire the burger and it came back burnt on the outside and still bright pink on the inside! I asked to send it back and have it removed from the bill. I was still planning on paying for my guest, who hated her meal but felt awkward about complaining because of the wait staff. The restaurant still charged me for the meal I sent back! I paid and left. When my parents visit they still like to go for the atmosphere, but their food is always 50/50 (sometimes good, sometimes bad). I recently tried going back again. The service was ok, but the food was disgusting. Just show up for the beer. Nothing else is worth it unless you plan on having a stomach ache.

Amazing burgers. You can tell they make them in house, not frozen. I had the Greek burger and I loved it. Crispy spinach with feta and tzatziki. Lovely servers as well. We will be back!
