Good Czech food in an unexpected place: We were passing through town and needed a place to eat before the boat cruise. We saw the reviews for the Maple Leaf Restaurant and decided to give it a shot. We had just been to Prague, Czech Republic, so we were curious about whether the food reminded us of the non-tourist places where we ate in Prague. In short, this is a solid place where the borsch and schnitzel were very good, and they suitably reminded of us Prague. The prices are reasonable for a restaurant of this type and for a tourist town, and the service was excellent. It's run by a Czech family, and the daughter-in-law took care of service out front. Based on our first experience here, we will return here the next time we need a spot for lunch or dinner in Gananoque.

Venue is nothing special but when you serve schnitzel and polish sausage this good, who cares. If you've never had authentic polish sausage or even if you think you have, try this place. I bet it's better here. Can't believe this Tiny Town had this amazing restaurant.

HUGE disappointment! My husband and I went for lunch based on website menu. It has clearly changed - prices are now substantially higher. I would be embarrassed to charge the restaurant prices for the "child size" portions we received. My husbands (dry) bacon cheeseburger (approx. $16.) was little more than a slider size, the bacon consisted of a half slice and the fries were minimally proportioned. My schnitzel was bland and again, the fries were a very small portion (frozen, not fresh I would add). I requested a glass of water with lemon which was served in a juice size glass and the lemon was about the size of the top of my thumb. We have no problem paying for good food and love to dine out locally. We will definitely not return to Maple Leaf nor could we refer anyone based on our experience. We weren't approached to see if our meal was acceptable during or after, nor were we offered dessert at the end of our meal. I can't say, other than today, that I've ever had to return home to cook a meal to supplement my dining out. I do hope Maple Leaf owner has a serious look at the current rip off operation.

Don't eat here! The perogi are awful menu does not say how many you get. You get 4 for $11 ouch. This side order of potatoes in the picture cost $5 and it's not even a whole potato. They did take them off the bill. It took us 1 hrs to get our food. We told by the waiter, "were you not told it was a long wait when you were seated?" He sat us and he didn't tell us. The milkshakes were $5.75 they were OK but about a cup and a half of milkshake. Like I said don't eat here. We won't again ever.

MY wife and I needed a little get away o we went to Gananoque. All of our dinning experiences have been great so far. One that stands out is the Maple Leaf Restaurant. I had the Soup and Burger deal and my wife had a club sandwich. The service was great, the food was fantastic, the soup I had was near perfect, seasoned just right too, I loved it. I had some of my wife's sandwich it was great too. I had a beer it was poured perfectly. We took some desert back to our hotel room, again amazing . Next time we're in Gananoque we'll be back for more great food :)

Very impressed. Came with a group of 20 hikers and they did a great job serving all of us in dining area we had all to ourselves. Schnitzel was fantastic!! Tasted both the chicken and the pork. Both great. If I had to choose again I would go with the pork. Oh, and I almost forgot, I had the Black Dog beer from the Gananoque brewing company. Very dark, very tasty and very high alcohol..all good.

Decided to have lunch there on day as I was visiting the area. First: I ordered the burger and fries coupled with a local brewed beer. The food was good. Not above average. Second : the outside patio area might need a refresh as the inside of the restaurant. Clean but super dated.

This was our first time here, even though we have driven by many times over the years! The service was not very friendly and the waiter just tossed the menus on the table didn't say hello etc. We had the Jr schnitzel, it was good. There was no gravy; apparently you can only have this with the dinner meal. The strudel was disappointing. $40 for lunch for 2 with no alcohol. I won't be returning.

This another 5 stars from me (super rare) If you are in this area and skip this place, you are missing a lot. If I go there or even pass by, this is where I will have my lunch or dinner. No brainer! The name is misleading for sure. It's a Czech restaurant I suppose. Very casual, family style, friendly environment. The staff is very kind and helpful. You can pick from several schnitzel variations. I've ordered Toscana (pork schnitzel with mozzarella & prosciutto) and Chicken; never tasted so good schnitzel in a very long time. 10/10. Also the dark lager was great too

Excellent Czech cuisine. A beautiful patio away from the noise and smells of traffic. Schnitzel was fried golden crisp served with paprika nokedli and sour cabbage slaw. Czechvar both blonde and dark and Pilsner Urquell on tap. A must visit. Top service too boot.

Food was ho-hum at best, on the verge of being over-priced. The fries tasted like they came out of a yellow bag from the frozen food section at No-Frills. The ketchup (while in a Heinz bottle) was runny. The $13 perogie appetizer was 4 limp/mushy perogies, with one slice of overcooked bacon (diced). The reuben sandwich was nothing special, and the burger (pre-packaged and frozen) was served on a Wonder Bread bun. The bathrooms are not equipped with change tables for babies. If it were the last place on earth still serving food, I guess I'd go back. The serving staff were nice enough, hence the 2 stars. The food deserves fewer stars.

Contrary to some of the poor reviews, the portions are quite substantial for their prices and the staff is very friendly and personable. I enjoyed my meal here. There are a good number of eastern European dishes on the menu. I had the goulash, which was tasty. I tried my wife's borscht and I wish I had ordered some! The restaurant decor is very.. uh.. rustic ????, yet the restrooms are very modern. The service was great. I wanted to try the schnitzel as there were a lot of good reviews, but will have to go back next time I am in Gananoque to do so.

Great Food and Tremendous Service! The place was super busy the night we stopped in and we were surprised by how quickly we got served, by how good the food was and by how attentive the server was. First time to the ???? leaf. Service staff were great. We had the veal and pork schnitzel. The veal was tough but they took it back with no questions and brought a new one. The pork schnitzel with mushroom sauce was a winner. Would go back again.

Food was not that great and they did NOT disclose that they will be charging 20% gratuity in your consumption bill.. which should be against the law... Consumers have no choice to via tip "say" if the service or food were not as good as expected. And since when is that amount of tip MANDATORY? For us as consumers, the option is only one: Next time go somewhere else! EASY!

One of the only places that don't close as early. They offer beer. Food was good. I had pork Snichtzel. I'm not very knowledgeable so I can't really compare. I would rate it 4 stars if not because I think it's a bit overpriced. Otherwise service was good and the personnel were very curteous and welcoming.

I had the curry pork schnitzel - it was very good - and the Borsch for starter, which was also very good. The place was clean, the portioned well sized, the waiter was very friendly (he also helped us find a boat rental in town). Seems like an authentic Polish restaurant. The prices a little bit high (18.95 for my entree) but the special deal, which included the borsch in the price of the entree made it reasonable. The booth we sat had no cushions but wooden seats, but it was OK to sit in.

I had spaetzle that was ok & lots of it, but I am not a fan of that type of food & don't eat meat like bratwurst. The restaurant is in the quaint little town of Gananoque, Ontario, Canada & has outside seating too. It seems very popular & fills up quickly, so reservations at dinner are probably best. We were early birds that day. They do have a board of specials out front & the desserts case was tempting.

What a great meal. My entire family loved every bite. The chicken Schnitzel was outstanding. My wife loved her Reuben sandwich and both kids ate every bite of their shrimp and pasta dishes. With 2 alcoholic drinks and 2 great soups dinner for the 4 of us was $75. What a great deal. When in Gananoque this is a cant miss. Pleasant and friendly staff as well.

Came to this place with low expectations (judging a book by it's cover). The place was packed and they had warned us that the wait would be long. We ordered and food came in 15 min which is norm. Food was amazing, everyone was happy from the soup to main course. Would highly suggest having some delish comfort food here! If you looking for a fine dining experience this is not the place.

Came here for Rahm Schnitzel and Spaetzle with the creamy mushroom sauce. I've been to Germany a few times and had it there, this restaurant did not disappoint. Crust on the Schnitzel was crunchy and cooked perfectly. Spaetzle was soft but not soggy. Enjoyed my meal. Staff were courteous/friendly and food arrived quick.

Worst. Czech. Food. Ever. Where do I start- my wife is Czech, I have been to Czech numerous times and I have no idea what this is but they are not serving anything near decent Czech cuisine. To start off, the draft beer was just below room temperature, which I know being from Germany we are not serving ice cold beer like we do here but this was barely cold. We ordered pasta with tomato sauce for our daughter and a side of fries, she liked both but the pasta arrived cold at the table. My wife ordered grilled salmon, it arrived with PLAIN white rice and pickled vegetables. The salmon is advertised as being grilled, it's was definitely previously frozen and heated up in the microwave. I had the pork schnitzel, not horrible but not great. The crowning touch was when we decided to get dessert, they had on their chalkboard apple strudel and blueberry streusel. We asked for a portions of each but were told by the server that even though they had the streusel up on the chalkboards they haven't had it all summer. On their CHALKBOARD. I have no idea why you would not remove this from the board. Anyway. Strudel arrives, it's been microwaved to nuclear temperature and once we were able to actually eat it it was obviously made with canned apples and the crust was almost impossible to cut with a fork. I don't know what this place is trying to accomplish, but all I can say is all of the Czech Republic is crying right now. And I was actually looking forward to coming here all week.

This place is an outstanding family restaurant in downtown Gananoque. Delicious food, cold beer, and great service. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars, well worth the visit and will definitely be back.

Great goulash, paprikash, and cutlets. Big portions, friendly service. Very limited options for vegetarians, but there is a spaetzle casserole with veggies and cheese, which is a little greasy, but tasty. Very traditional cooking, comfort food.

First time here. Tasted good but a bit expensive. Loved the homemade pierogies with onion and bacon BUT only came with 4 and was 12.95. Wish there was at least 6 or more. Also had the Rahm schnitzel, tasted good but a bit heavy in the caraway (in the sauce). Also had the chicken schnitzel, the chicken was really good and crunchy. We both enjoyed our food. We both had the special which came with side salad, found it small and the dressing was bottled and we felt it was watered down.

Food is very mediocre. Ordered the steak medium. Was cooked well done. Veal schnitzel and spaezl meal portion was skimpy (and I am both petit and not a huge eater). Overpriced for what it is compared to similar meals in other places.

This is like a little jewel in the downtown area of gananoque. The staff are very friendly and very courteous as they help you select your orders bring your food dishes with a big smile. The food in this place is very very reasonably priced and the portions are a really medium to over average size. Against the great little restaurant downtown gananoque way

Absolutely the best!!! Polish barszcz is really Polish. Gulasz and knedle still I want more!!! Herring... Canadians not only hamburger and fries. Try something different. For sure I'll come back!

Great Czech food! I just got back from the Czech republic and I missed the food, so I had to try this place. The food was delicious and as good as I remembered. I had the veal schnitzel and my girlfriend had sauerbraten.

Had a great burger here, wait staff is average. Restaurant is on the small side with many 4-6 top tables (picnic table size), get there early if possible. Lager was smooth and tasty. Would recommend again for the food and drinks

Don't get fooled by the good reviews! We were visiting Gananoque yesterday and wanted to try the "Maple Leaf snitzel", their "specialty" that had good ratings.... Actually, it was the worst snitzel I ever had at a restaurant! With a side of obviously frozen fries and a salad so full of vinegrette that it completely sank the snitzel, turning it moist... Can't believe that people rated the snitzel 4 and 5 stars, because we had 2 snitzel that day and both were awful! Have they never had a snitzel at a good restaurant? Friendly advice: If you want to enjoy some good food, go to Riva restaurant ;)

The best Central European restaurant in all of Ontario. Food is incredible if you appreciate European cuisine. Schnitzels and potato soup with bacon are out of this world! I keep coming here every time I get a chance to be in the region. Try Czechvar beer with your meal - light or dark. It adds wonderful authenticity to you culinary experience. And by the way, it is definitely Czech, not Polish. Thank you so much!
