Here you will see the information of people who are buying the products of Laverne's Eatery (Coffee Shop) in the area close to Gananoque (Canada).
Now this firm gets a score of 4.3 stars out of 5 and that score has been based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is very positive, and it is founded on a very large number of reviews, so we can conclude that the rating is quite accurate. If many people have bothered to give their feddback when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to put opinions when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Coffee Shop is classified in the category of Restaurant.

Nice! Ate some food and it was good. But I didn't finish it cause I wasn't hungry. I'd probably go again anyways. Even though I have bad memories there because my ima made fun of me.
Came here for breakfast and the food was amazing. We had the mushroom melt, sourdough toast, french toast and omelet and everything was so good and flavourful. The house-made hot sauce was great and spicy. Definitely worth the wait and great service even though understaffed. Would absolutely visit again!
Food was good BUT website so out of date that nothing matched up. Owner was shown the website errors (hours, menu) and never bothered to stop by even though we sat 10 feet away
On one side a great place to grab your morning tea and pastry (or coffee if you like that sort of thing). The other side has a great brunch/lunch bar with a tex/Mex/BBQ focus. Great food and friendly service. Make a reservation for weekend visits for sure.
We were the unsuspecting tourist who did not have a lot of cell or wifi coverage but had seen 4 stars for this restaurant. We may have caught the owner/host on a bad day but in the end were shocked by her behavior. We waited quite some time to be seated and when we finally were by the owner I had to go get our menus and it took ten minutes until we could order drinks. She was so scattered that she brought us 2 bottles of water and had to ask us our drink order again. My 18 year old son who has his own small business commented that he felt rushed because of the owner's behavior. We finally get drinks and she asked to take our order. My youngest asked for the hamburger and the owner the same person who sat us says "Whoever sat you should have told you that our grinder broke this morning. A $700 high end grinder and it broke this morning." This became a problem because he is a picky eater so we said we would pay for our drinks and eat elsewhere. She never returned with our check so after 10 minutes we were starved and decided to leave since we could not find her. As we exited her side ramp she yelled out to us and my husband asked, "Do you have the check?" Her response was "I'm just a small business it's okay!" The sad part is the food that we did see come out to people who were sat after us looked really good. I was excited to eat the Thai salad. So maybe she was just having a bad day but when 2 members in your family own a small business and the 18 year old can figure out the poor planning at this business you question whether the service is ever good. We wish we could give 0 stars since we never had any food.
New review fall of 2021: until this place changes owners again I won't be going back. Usually that doesn't take too long at least. Refusing to protect staff or customers from COVID by asking patrons to be vaccinated. Will never eat here again under this ownership. What a shame... Food was great. My previous review from 2019: Great food and service. I would just suggest checking the hours before you go - we were surprised that it was almost closing time!
I was in town performing at the playhouse and so excited to try this spot! They have the best coffee in town and a fun/trendy menu. Sadly, the staff isn’t very friendly and I felt like I was bothering them every time I went in. I understand it’s a hard time for everyone/restaurants but it’s not that hard to be friendly when your business counts on it! I’ve worked in restaurants all my life. The avocado toast and iced coffees were delicious! The patio is super cute and there is ample seating inside.
Delicious lunch on the patio. Lebanese chicken bowl and quinoa salad
I have come in to Laverne’s many times and the service has never been good. Waitresses are snotty and unwelcoming. The last few times I have been in, waitresses have forgotten what I ordered or just never gave me what I ordered. I was in today and asked for toast 2 times and the response was “it’s coming” as she walked away and get herself something to eat. Their comments to customers are just rude. As a customer asked a question about the food, the owners response was “well this isn’t McDonald’s”.
We were in the area, have been here before, could not miss the place. Quality food and good drinks remain, the name of the place changed and I wish it hadn't: it is now missing one "ingredient" that made it unique.
Great food, great staff, amazing decor! Wonderful experience
Best breakfast in Gananoque. Unique and awesome menu items. Amazing baking, really cool people, relaxing space.
Terrific spot for a full meal or quick snack. We stopped in the town on for a bite to eat on Sunday around 1pm. We ordered from their brunch menu their toast options. One was the avocado almond and spicy honey toast served with scrambled eggs. The other was a mushroom and garlic toast with a fried egg. Both dishes were unique in flavour and delicious! Service was attentive we will come back.
Limited menu, but damn delicious top to bottom.
Enjoyed their delightful Sunday brunch, upgraded to include champagne for mimosas. Plenty of excellent quality food for the price. I don't know where they get their produce for salads. All ingredients were fresh, crispy and full of flavour, reminiscent of fresh produce right out of the garden.
Warm and friendly atmosphere, and the food was scrumptious, so says my beautiful wife. I thought it was delicious
Nice decore, ok coffee. Friendliness of staff is soso.
Excellent coffee! Great brisket!! Highly recommended!!
Well, aside from the attitude from the wait staff,I found the selection of beer extremely over priced. The patio was littered with seeds from an overhanging tree. As a local,I feel sorry for any tourists dropping into this trap. I do not recommend, and personally (not that they would care.) I will never go back.
I'm in the restaurant right now. Came in for breakfast because the 4.2rating score. I think that must have been given by friends and family. I don't think I've ever experienced such slow service. 40min wait for bacon and egg and avacado toast with apparently crispy bacon. Good luck finding the bacon in this piled up presentation slathered with a sweet tomato ?salsa. There were 6 customers and 3 servers and still the service was so slow. A young man (staff) came out with a backwards baseball cap from the kitchen I think. He was walking around with his eyes closed, dragging his feet. He surely didn't want to be there. I guess it's hard to find good staff here.
Enjoy a variety of freshly-made treats on the delightful outdoor patio under old-growth trees.
This is a must try breakfast and brunch place. Local eatery with great taste. We tried the rancheros , sourdough toast with avocado. Both tasted Delicious. The cappucino is a must try. The patio is small but very inviting. We went here around 9 am and the place was busy , with wait times for food anywhere between 20-30 mins. But the food is worth the wait. Plan your time ahead and definitely pay a visit!
Just enjoyed a lovely brunch on the patio. We had the English breakfast and the Ribs breakfast. Everything was so delicious and of excellent quality. Wonderful atmosphere overlooking historic stone buildings and central park. We will be back.
Small venue with eclectic, interesting menu, well prepared food and good service
The food is really nice, and the place pretty but God the music was so loud we couldn't have any sorts of conversation. Also very long wait but there was only 3 people working that shift and people kept coming. Saw that they were hiring so that will probably get taken care of soon.
Great spot! The food was really good. Unique and delicious. Great tea and coffee as well. Also the place is really interesting lots to look at. Cool design features. Our table was a bit wobbly and there was a single fly buzzing around us for much of our time there but the great food, cool atmosphere and wonderful service more than made up for it. 10/10 would recommend and go back.
Great new look. The owners have done tremendous work on the decor and menu items. The coffee is great and the staff friendly.
As previous posts mention the customer service at this restaurant is really awful. Came here based on reviews, we were on a tour in the area had a wonderful time until we came here. Waiter didn’t even acknowledge us that we were waiting in the waiting area. Had to catch her to ask about being seated. She said you can have a seat on patio but I won’t be able to take your order for 10-15min. Why do I have to beg to be seated, the only reason I asked because my elderly mother was tired and I did not want her to keep standing longer. The whole ambiance was really off, the waiter was not happy. We left.
I've been meaning to get to this review - a bit delayed as our first visit was a month ago. We have been many times since then however! The coffee, food and service have all been amazing every time we have gone. Great atmosphere as well.
Probably one of the best breakfasts you’ve had in a long while - no joke ????
Great little spot with a limited menu that still has good variety. Our food came out fast and it was really delicious.
The second you walk in you get a sense of that amazing modern day New York City cafe with even better prices/ quality! Perfect atmosphere for studying and joining some friends. Shannon is a great host and always has a smile! Whenever I have free time on the weekends I make sure a double espresso from here is part of my day. Makes the day absolutely perfect.
Fiesta Fridays are fun! Great brunch. The must-try food item IMO is the breakfast burrito! I like the veggie option, that tomato chutney… ???? A gem of Gananoque! Pictured is a French Toast special and The Brisket Hash (added side of tomato chutney, of course ????)
Had a late lunch with the family here today. Best meal we have had in a long time. As soon as we walked in we could smell the aroma of freshly brewed cappuccino. And my wife looked at me and said I guarantee they make a mean cappuccino here. They do. Perfect cup. We each had one. I had the brisket hash. Perfect brunch combo. Great bbq flavour. Wasn’t sure how to eat it so I cut it all up and mixed it together. And ate it with the toast that came with it. Amazing. Wife had the BLT. ( I ate half of it ) Huge sandwich with two huge slabs of fried bologna. Definitly get your money’s worth with this meal. They accommodated our daughters request for a simple grilled cheese. As it was not on the menu. No problem. She said it was the best grilled cheese she has ever had. This restaurant has a very cosy, comfy feel to it. Definitly the most comfy chairs I have ever sat in, in a restaurant. We will be going back to Laverne’s every time we go to Gan.
The best burrito I've had in a long time. I had the Juche Pork and my wife had the Pig Mac. Both were incredible, and furthermore the guy serving us was friendly and knew the entire menu plus drinks. The trip to Gan from Kingston was 100% worth it!!!
Terrible customer service
Hubby got the BLT I got the bagel platter with smoked salmon. We accidentally found this place while trying to find somewhere open on a Monday. We will now make our way on purpose as this place is superb! The service was friendly and the ambience was so cozy. The food! So delicious and well prepared. Only warning (which was given :)) make sure you're hungry when ordering the BLT!
Stopped in for lunch today. I had the Spoon, basically eggs bacon toast and home fries. Bacon was perfect, home fries with jalapeños was really nice, not too spicy but a decent kick. Toast/jam nicely done. Partner had breakfast burrito with pull pork, delicious!! Latte and a beer as drinks. Would highly recommend!!
Excellent eatery! Glad we stopped here on a Toronto - Montreal drive. Food was great and I love the counter made with books.
Beautifully decorated, friendly staff and very good brunch. Lovely spot close to the river. Glad we finally made it in! Avocado toast was awesome. Coffee is great.
A very hipster joint with good food. Decor is pretty unique and the staff is unbelievably nice! At first glance the menu seems average, but after reading a few descriptions, you can see that everything has a unique twist and was carefully thought out. I highly recommend!!!
5 stars for the food, 3 stars for the wait & the outdoor seating. Food was very good albeit slightly expensive, however we waited almost 1 hour for our breakfast (on a wednesday) and there was an insane amount of bees due to the amount of flowers on the patio. Maybe having a different kind of plant or some sort of bee deterrant could help with this.
West Coast Burger was okay. However the Dill hollandaise had split and tasted like it was only melted butter, and when we were brought a coffee incorrectly instead of a hot chocolate and the server fixed it and told to keep the unordered coffee, we were still charged for it. Definitely overpriced. Overall impression: nice ambiance, but food was lacking and underwhelming.
Meal type
Really good eats and excellent coffee drinks. Highly recommend to stop here if you are ever coming through Gananoque!
We gave this place a third chance to redeem themselves, thinking it may have just been a poor coincidence. We have officially written the place off as a local and it's disappointing. Rude staff & manager, can't get service, cold food and and and This time after waiting and being ignored and after a group of 4 left for the same thing, I approached a waitress to ask if we could sit in one of the many empty tables. She actually said no and started complaining to me about her being the only one, 1 staff had this problem and another that problem, as if I needed to hear this. To top it off, she said she couldn't seat us and besides the kitchen had a 1/2hr wait. It's a good thing tourists may not have previous experience to know to stay away...... Sad to see, the place did well a few years ago.
Great food, wonderful patio and extremely welcoming and accommodating service
I was so excited to have lunch here with my family but left somewhat disappointed. I picked it because of the positive reviews and the menu on the website seemed unique and delicious. When we arrived, we weren’t greeted warmly and it took awhile for someone to come to direct us to a seat. It felt awkward to be honest. Unfortunately, they weren’t even serving the full menu that day as it was just brunch on civic holiday Monday. We waited for an hour to get our food (3 avocado toasts and 1 other breakfast dish with egg, toast, sausage and bacon). While waiting for our food I observed a lady who waited 17 min to pay from the time she asked the waitress for her bill. Another lady had to ask 2 different servers to get a spoon for her coffee. Four different groups of people walked out due to the slow service. Some people were turned away as they were “really swamped” but then minutes later other people were given a table? It’s a good thing we were an hour ahead of our schedule to take a cruise otherwise it would have been a super stressful experience. I almost want to give them another chance in case something was off that day (ie. maybe someone called in sick or quit) but I don’t think it’s worth it after our 6h + drive.
Fish and chicken tacos were amazing! Naughty Otter was good as well! Overheard pulled pork are better. We will be back to try!
Lunch
Great food, but beware the miserable waitress! Not sure what her issue is - she was very rude. Apart from that, I would definitely eat here again. Don't forget to get a coffee on your way out, it is absolutely incredible!
Basic coffee/beverage menu, not a bad thing. Drinks (Americano and a latte) were good, and prepared very quickly. Atmosphere is very cool. Retro vibe with matching equipment. Food menu looked like the choices were classic, and simple. I did not order food, however the sandwiches on display looked very well put together and appetizing. Service could have been friendlier and more polite.
Ordered takeout to etat our boat at Clark's Marina on the advise of some local friends. The food was spectacular! We would highly recommend!
Very nice establishment, clean and friendly with cold beer ???? and good food
Unique little spot.. Amazing food! Fun drinks..Great service. Priced accordingly. Love going there! Brought my Daughter & Son there in the summer.. they absolutely loved the place.
Great food, that is so great you will leave wishing it was a bit more... Service is not specially fast, but is friendly and courteous. I recommend.
The food here is incredible. Staff so friendly and courteous. Highly, highly recommend!
Dine in
Best coffee I've had in a while! Food was great too. Thanks!
I recommend the "Madame" or the smoked salmon, poached eggs and hash brown. Possibly the best food in town... In my opinion. More of a cafe type of place more than a restaurant and food takes a bit of time to arrive.
They have a very delicious and good quality Brunch .. love it will come again
This is probably my favourite coffee place of all. The coffee is fantastic. I've had breakfast here twice and the food was very tasty and well presented. I like the eclectic feel of the place. Also, how can you not like a place that has the Sunday New York Times!
Right now they dont have staff. So the person in the cashier gets a little bit stress. Nevertheless the food is very good, and the coffee delicious. I had the farm girl and it was very full feeling fresh and healthy.. will definitely comeback if in the area
What a terrific experience! I’ve been in several times for an espresso, which has always been good, but I’d never sat down for a meal. Great menu! The dishes are creative with great ingredients and they are well-executed. This place really surprised me and I can’t wait to go back!
Awesome place! Definitely a favourite to stop at. The brisket hash is divine and the coffee is the best around. Friendly and welcoming staff with a casual and comfortable atmosphere.
You gotta go. Excellent meal. Surprisingly good.
This place was great! It seemed a little weird at first. There is an outdoor and indoor seating area. We were promptly seated. They have some good beer choices! I had the bbq pork tacos and they were amazing! Highly recommend. And if you don't like tacos, you can get the same thing in a burrito or a bowl. Everyone else at the table seemed to be pleased with their meal. Server was also super friendly and charismatic. I would like to come back if I'm in the area.
Great coffee at this place, but service is a bit slow
En route to Montreal we stopped by this little nook for brunch -- it was simply beyond any expectations we had for breakfast. I ordered a sour dough bread with toppings such as avocado, bacon, and this tomato chutney sauce which was DIVINE. My side of bacon was cooked perfectly; crispy and not greasy. My one friend also ordered a sour dough with mushrooms, and lastly my third friend ordered the beef brisket. This brisket is slow cooked for 16 hours in a smoker which is outside Laverne's -- rare for restaurants to feature. On top of that the customer service was wonderful, and our waitress even recommended some restaurants in Montreal when we mentioned we were going there. I am surprised at the low ratings below on the poor customer service. The restaurant has so much character, featured in the small town of Ganononque. I especially loved the bar table that was made up of books. It's rare to give a 5/5 rating for a restaurant I visit once but it is justified with Laverne's because of the quality of food, flavour, service, and small-town charm.
We were 4 and went for breakfast on a Thursday morning. We never got a good morning or even a Hello. We waited, standing, over a half hour and ordered 4 Diner egg plates, 3 coffees and a glass of orange juice. $71.00!!! The lady behind the counter never even looked me in the eye. Wow! What horrible service! The eggs were overcooked and crispy around the edges but the coffee was OK. WOULD DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!
Worst service ever experienced at a restaurant. Had to leave without ordering food, rude manager lost my appetite along with my 5 other friends attending. We all agreed to never go back there again.
Excellent
Best coffee in Gananoque. Breakfasts are absolutely delicious. I highly recommand this place !
Interesting menu, excellent food and great service!
The food was fantastic. I really enjoyed the Tropic of Capricorn! The service was fast, friendly and the server (Tara) was fantastic. Will be back and recommending this to all my friends.
Stopped here for lunch during an admittedly quiet time and really enjoyed the place. The staff was friendly, food was delicious, and the overall vibe was very pleasant and relaxing. What you’d expect from a nice small-town cafe.
I had a great lunch and coffee here. The space was nice, the food was tasty, and the staff were friendly and helpful even though there was only one person trying to serve the entire place. I'd love to see them expand with more of a dining area to make things a little less hectic in the cafe area.
Slow service. It is not clear if a waiter should bring a menu or you should ask for it. It's not written anywhere. Waited here for 5 minutes and it seemed like no one really wanted to serve potential clients. Wanted to sit and wait, but empty tables were all with dirty dishes. Read co-owners reply on another feedback and this is the reason why I put here not less than 3 stars.
What an amazing find!!! The food was amazing as was the service. Chef Ray came out to chat with us last night, and then we came back for Breakfast which was awesome! The coffee is the best I have had in a long time. If you ever in the area, stop by and have some of the best food in the area!!!!! From one chef to another - Chef Ray you kbocked it out of the park!!! Chef Marg Ann.
TLDR: the restaurant was half empty, we were not seated, and the owner was rude. Full story: We were excited to eat here; the menu looks fantastic. When we arrived, the patio had more open tables than empty ones. Nobody acknowledged us, so we headed out to the patio, but a waitress stopped us. We asked her for a seat on the patio. She asked asked us to wait five minutes for her to seat us. As we waited, four groups came, and left, since nobody seemed to be attending to the front. After twenty minutes, my wife asked the waitress if they were going to seat us soon, indicating how long we’d been waiting. The owner (recognized from the website photos) asked, “Who’s been waiting 20 minutes? I don’t care if they’ve been waiting 20 minutes, we just don’t have time.” Needless to say, we left. This may be a fantastic eatery, and maybe this was a one-off moment of poor customer service. I wish we could have tried some of the things we read about in the menu. But this particular visit was very disappointing.
Long waits but good food!
Cute little spot for some amazing house soup and fresh sandwich wraps. Good quantity, reasonable pricing.
We've waited for years to return to Gananoque, and to our favourite little place, previously known as The Socialist Pig. Even with a change in name, it's the same special place we remember. Healthy yummy food, great beverage choices (both teas and coffees), and same lovely service. If it's winter, try the hot ginger lemonade!
Great food friendly people
Very bad service, staff are rude. no table service. Not even a good morning. The young man that brought us our food didnt even say one word to us. We had to go ask for creamers and ketchup. Go somewhere else!! 71$ that we could of spent somewhere else.
Love the spicy brisket burger, we were in a hurry for the 1000 islands boat and hadn't the time for coffee or desert, I'll definitely visit again next time going to Toronto. It's only 5 minutes away from 401, and the food is so much better than what you could find in an ONROUTE station.
Excellent platter of meats to share for the table. The brisket was probably the best I’ve ever had in my life. Potatoes in the potato salad were undercooked and some were still kind of raw. The salsa and chips appetizer was nice but the chips were a bit stale.
I was a bit hesitant thinking that a burrito for $11 was kind of pricey. I was sorely mistaken. I had the brisket burrito and it was the best burrito I've ever eaten, hands down! Weighed in at about 1.5lbs and was very filling. Came with eggs, some kind of cilantro sauce, a very nice BBQ sauce, slowed BBQ'ed brisket, and some other stuff. I want to go back. I am very happy with my meal.
Barista is rude and unwelcoming. She was complaining about being open giving the impression that those of us waiting in line should leave...so I did.
Very good food and coffee. However the serving time is pretty long.
I REALLY want to like this place because I think it brings something great to the town and the space is unique. However, I tried it three times and every time I went there was at least one staff member belittling another staff member. I realize it was summer and busy, but when the barista on the machine is constantly belittling other staff members in front of a large crowd it is disgraceful. Others in the store at the time looked uncomfortable and I felt bad for the other employees.
This place is my favourite! Moving from Toronto I hated not being able to find a good cafe, until I found this place. The cafe is trendy with an eclectic array of decor. The coffee is top notch! Probably one of the best I've had in a long time. Worth checking out if you're in the area.
We got a Thai sandwich and a rosemary soup. Thai sandwich was not prepared fresh and was handed cold. The rosemary soup didn't meet the expectations either unfortunately. The service was fantastic and it has a vintage vibe to it which we liked.
Have been here a few times, because the food is decent. But no matter how good the food, it's not worth the extremely slow and rude service. Last visit was terrible, won't go back. Customer is always wrong, staff are always complaining, make you feel like they're doing you a huge favour serving you their food. And it's not cheap. So many other better places. Also, manager was not wearing a mask inside the kitchen or outside on the patio.
OMG good
The best breakfast place in Gananoque.. Please do not miss the French Toast with sauteed bananas. Just heavenly to start your day.
This spot is an absolute gem! The food is superb and the atmosphere is cozy yet sophisticated. Definitely a must-visit for locals and tourists alike.
Absolutely amazing, great food every time!
The coffee is decent. The workers are friendly. The huevos rancheros was pretty tasty and filling. Shared it and was still full.
Quirky menu, really appealing decor and very pleasant staff. Well priced and proper portions.
A quirky little place to grab a very tasty bite in Gananoque. It's not massive, so it's better to go in small groups. They have a delicious spiked lemonade! I also liked their South American inspired dishes.
Beautiful place. An old building. We sat on the patio outside. The Huevos Rancheros is a must try!!
The Socialist Pig is one of the more unique places in Ganonoque; it has a homey air of cool crossed with unpretentious hipster. The staff is always friendly, helpful and up for a bit of a chat if they aren't too busy. Their coffee, as you can see from the other reviews, is outstanding as are the pastries and their lunch offerings. If you're in town it's highly recommended that you stop in for a drink and to soak up the atmosphere.
Very Disappointed On arrival, we were discouraged by the hostess to sit outside because there was rain in the forecast and they may not be able to sit us inside if it did. We said we would take our chances. Her reaction was immediately negative and abrupt. When we sat at a table for 4 (with a large umbrella....just in case), she yelled at us, rolled her eyes and told us to move to a table for 2, even though the patio was nearly empty. Same story for the next 2 customers. They walked out as no table for 2 offered protection.... The salads at $15 were extremely small (hardly appetizer size) and not very tasty. It left us hungry after a $50 meal. The waiter kept making faces when walking back but I could see him very well from where I sat .... Really???? Very disappointed with both the food and service.
Owner needs a time out. Having a stress tantrum and made the early brunch vibe not great. Sourdough avo toasts were delicious! Iced coffee was in need of ice.
2018: This year, we were out on the patio for breakfast - omnomnom. I had the spoon - and Mike had a brisket skillet. We were well satisfied after spending the morning walking around the park! 2017: Cozy indoor atmosphere with delicious home style food with a twist. I enjoyed the California Club - with avocado and the chicken was tossed in a grapefruit vinaigrette - simply divine combination of flavours! Finished it off with coffee and dessert. I highly recommend Laverne's when you are in Gananoque for a daytime meal!
Great food, great coffee and very friendly staff.
Waffle eggs Benedict was delicious
we LOVE Laverne’s. An absolute must if you are in Gan for food and atmosphere. Stop into Steel for a quick shop, grab a coffee in the shop to go.. and definitely try the house brisket/burger.
I love this little spot. They have high quality foods for reasonable prices, always fresh. Great spot for lunch. They serve excellent coffees. Nice little patio for warmer weather. They are located directly across from the park and band stand so the views are not bad. Staff is polite and attentive, always happy and smiling ( especially Melissa). Also located across from the Gan Brewery, which is good for a few brews then head on over to Laverne's for lunch!! I would recommend this spot to anyone and definitely will be returning myself!! Bon apeti!!
Best coffee in a long time. Delicious, very well prepared, brunch. The patio is small however the decoration inside is great. Totally recommend this place.
Formerly known as The Socialist Pig, this restaurant is still great for lunch. They completed renovations, and you can now sit on either side of the restaurant. They expanded their menu from their original offering and have made it their own. I had the brisket hash browns, which is topped with fried eggs. The brisket was tender with a flavorful barbecue sauce. It's slightly fatty, but I expect that from breakfast.
This very quickly became or go to place for breakfast in Gananoque! Even with the covid 19 limitations, service was delivered with a smile albeit behind a mask LoL
Excellent small place... Very tasty and great atmosphere....
Had the sourdough toast with avocado, almonds honey and feta, paired great with fresh squeezed oj. SO had bagel with salmon, also great. Good, strong coffee. Nice service, nice patio. Will go back tomorrow.
Great food and coffee, nice outdoor patio. However food and coffee service is much slower than it needs to be (15 minutes for two americanos; 20 minutes for omelette.) some attention needed to staffing and operations.
One of our favourite stops for coffee, breakfast, lunch, you name it!
We went here for breakfast this weekend. By far the best breakfast burrito I've eaten . Highly recommended eatery when you visit 1000 islands...food is delicious ????.
Passing through the town we came here for Saturday brunch. Fun and swanky little place with great coffee! The food has a modern touch, maybe not for the meat and potato type person. Patio is really nice and the food was fantastic. May be a little tight if you were to dine in the winter though.
Lunch
Good food, a bit long waiting time.
Loved having lunch here after being treated super rude in Quebec. So glad to be in a small town with happy well adjusted people. I highly recommend the Pig Mac ????
This place was the highlight of my summer vacation in Ontario. During the pandemia, understaffed (as were most business) but open for all who were willing to wait a little, I had one of the best breakfast EVER (in my top three)! After their delicious brisket hash, I even took a few pastries to go and they were succulent! I am a die hard foody from Montréal and I have rarely seen a full pack restaurant giving this level of quality while beeing that understaffed (I think the upstairs neighboor was giving a hand.) I can imagine the level of reorganisation that the situation demanded for you to remain open during that period and I needed to give a low bow and a hats off to the owner (who was taking orders at the cash) and to his busy staff! If I ever pass through Gananoque again, you will surely see me again and I will warmly recommend your establishment to friends and associates. Thank you again.
My favourite place to eat and drink a coffee in Gananoque. Stopped by on my way to Toronto from Ottawa for a break.
Had the brunch specials! Definitely worth going and trying it again! Friendly service, good ambience, amazing food, overall just amazing! Worth stopping by gananoque.
Fantastic
OMG!!! Everything was super delicious. The owner was so friendly. Thank you for your hard work ????????????????????????
Love this place. Their breakfasts are freaking delicious
Nicely finished breakfast dishes! Everything with tons of flavour!
Service
Food was ok. I had the fried Bologna sandwich, which seems to just be a rip off of the Bologna sandwich from Turkey and the wolf in New Orleans. Sandwich did not come exactly as advertised, and the Bologna was not fully fried and was only lukewarm. Our order was taken quite quickly but the food took almost 40 minutes to come out and the restaurant was not especially busy. They may have been under staffed for the day, but I don't believe it should take over an hour to get a simple sandwich.
We came in at a very busy hectic time while raining so no patio open - the staff still took care of us and had us seated within 10 minutes and ordering. Lovely staff, food is delish. Worth stopping in and we will be back.
Service
Tried the pulled pork sandwich. One of the best I've ever eaten! Great spot for a quick lunch!
One of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Great restaurant. Please support if you can!
Terrible service, over priced, staff and owner totally unhelpful. ONLY good thing was the omelet!
Laverne’s is one of our favourite brunch spots! The food is always hot & delicious, they have an extensive list of drinks and specialty coffees to accompany your meal and the customer service is wonderful to top it all off. If you’re looking to just grab something to go they also have an assortment of tasty treats to take with you for a quick bite. We also thoroughly enjoy their Fiesta Friday’s - the street corn is to die for!!
Dropped in while on the way to another restaurant. So glad we did. Food was amazing! I had the brisket burrito and it was hands down the best brisket (and burrito) I've ever had. My wife had the shrimp & Chorizo on Hominy grits and it was also very good. Great service and a fabulous latte in the lounge after sealed the deal. We'll definitely be back and recomend. Well done!
My partner and I stayed at Gananoque for 3 days and we went for breakfast at Laverns all those days. I love to start my day with Lavern’s coffee, eating every single piece of Avocado Feta Almond breakfast, which has mild taste of wild honey.
Good teas and pastries, gluten free food included. They make their food from scratch. Nice place.
The menu selection is a little light, but they use local and healthy ingredients and you can tell the staff and owners really care about the food. I found the chocolate chip cookie from the bakery to be dry and crunchy - not my preferred style for a cookie.
Only coffee place in town that I could find that had yogurt. And they had my flat white. Their WiFi was quick and automatic. Awesome thanks!
Great spot. Interesting decor. Enjoyed the food and coffee! If you are in GAN you should go here.
Extremely rude staff, terrible layout and horrible remodel of the place. Came in to grab a coffee from what was The Socialist Pig to find ugly updates to interior design and horrible staff. Also, the kind of place that makes you smell of their food for hours later. Never going back, such a shame.
This place is a gem. Nice patio and the food was superb. Tried the Cuban Missile sandwich which I highly recommend, and some craft beer from the Gan brewery next door. Will definitely go back.
As other reviews mentioned, service is lacking. I felt like I was intruding. Instead of sipping my drink and relaxing, I wanted to leave quickly. I did.
Dessert was good but overall service was very slow. The kitchen seemed overwhelmed, and it took us a good minute of just standing there before anyone asked if we needed help. Soba noodle salad was colourful but needed a punchier dressing: that’s an easy fix. This restaurant has potential but needs work…
Good coffee and good food in downtown. If you have some type of food diet, this place offers a couple of alternatives.
Really hot in there. No fans or airflow. My coffee was okay. My friend's creamy earl grey was all separated. Wasn't overly impressed.
Long time waiting for someone to acknowledge seating availability. Took an hour for the food to arrive after ordering. Food was okay not great.
Would not waste your time going to this place. Myself and family waited at the "waiting " a tea inside for 20mins. Not one person came to seat us until the waitress looked over and asked if we'd been taken care of. You heard her yelling at another staff member then saying that she was calling the owner because she was leaving. Like no one knew what there job was and didn't care about potential customers. When we finally got seated no one came around to ask if we wanted drinks, then over heard there was no lunch menu because it was the long weekend. Got up and left and ate down the street instead.
fantastic restaurant for lunch. amazing brisket sandwich and great craft beer from just across the street (@Gan Brewing Co.) you've gotta try this place!
Lovey location with some really tasty food, staff very nice and both times we ate here the coffee and the breakfast/lunch were very good. Good spot for those looking for tasty vegan food and non dairy coffee options.
Good hamburgers and great beer !!!
Delicious food, courteous and friendly staff. Great atmosphere. All in all, 5-star experience. Did I mention there's beer?
I love this place...the coffee, latte's, beer selection and food are absolutely incredible. It has a very cozy atmosphere and warm vibe. Unfortunately, the customer service especially if you're not a "local" is anything but. I have been at Laverne's several time's in the last few years and have slowly watch the customer service deteriorate. I wasn't acknowledged while being first in line to order my coffee for several minutes on end, but a local standing behind me was served before me as the two girls behind the counter chatted away with her. I stood there staring at them in disbelief. When I finally received my latte it wasn't full. I waited a few seconds to let the foam settle. I asked if they had anymore they could top it off with and the response was "No, we don't" with no offer of steaming up a little bit more so I would get the full coffee I paid for. It's unfortunate but I don't think I'll be returning. 5 star's for the food and beverage and 1 for the customer service. If you're not a local... be prepared to be ignored.
I gave 5 stars cause I can’t stress enough how delicious my eggs Benny on a freaking waffle were! And the mimosa made my day!! Yes there is very little in the way of service but we chalked it up to being COVID related (staffing, etc). The vibe is nice...if you’re chill and can roll with things the breakfast is worth it!!
Nice setting; okay food; scattershot service. To be fair, they were swamped when we arrived. We stood beside a sign that said "Please Wait To Be Seated." And were told to NOT stand there, but out in the hall/stairway. Odd. By the time we were seated, the line up was down the stairs and out the door, but quickly shrank because people gave up and left. The most curious part was that there were a lot of empty tables during this time. Finally were seated and ordered -- took awhile. After another long wait, the food came BUT it was prior to our cutlery arriving. Food was tasty, but I've had better. And it was far from piping hot. We witnessed other people being served the wrong thing and then waiting and waiting and waiting for the right thing while their dining mates finished their meals. Several other diners were extremely annoyed, so the atmosphere was tense with a dash of annoyance. Some of the staff were friendly; some were not. The outdoor deck was lovely and the interior looked charming, too. I suspect that it would be an okay place to eat, or have a coffee, during a less-busy time.
We are vegan & were drawn to this place, as it advertised that it had "Vegan & Gluten Free Options" on the banner outside the cafe. This was our second time coming here - our first was for lunch - they had a few really great vegan options & alternative milks at their coffee shop. We stopped here for Brunch after a kayak trip and were unfortunately quite disappointed. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros sans egg & cheese (so it would've been flat bread, refried beans, salsa, avocado, cilantro, and lime). The waitress (who was very nice) came back & told us that the chef said that would be "too bland" and that he was "feeling put off with all the modifications because he says you are basically making new menu items." What?! I literally just made your job easier for you. I told the waitress, it was fine, we'd just have coffee, but she was nice & wanted to help. We ended up ordering just avocado toast - basically what I ordered in the first place, but just avocado. For a restaurant that touts it's "Vegan & Gluten Free" options, the lack of accommodation & veil of hostility from the chef was shocking. Simply put, the chef was a dick. Be warned - go for lunch, NOT brunch if you want decent vegan options without the hate.
We had a nice lunch on the patio, but it literally took an hour to arrive. What ever you do don't come for the dessert!! When I asked, pecan pie or maybe a tart was the response I got. When I looked at the pie, I was glad I didn't order it.
Excellent service, reasonable pricing. We had hot chocolate and a chocolate latte, both were excellent. Also had a breakfast danish , with a fried egg on top, very tastey and filling enough as a small breakfast.
Great food. Good coffee. Good atmosphere. Just wish the owners were a little warmer and didn't admonish their staff in front of customers. Seen it a few times and so have others. But it's the only place to grab a decent coffee in Gananoque.
Absolutely delicious brunch consisted of Eggs Benny on avocado with Atlantic salmon and fresh spinach with a homemade hollandaise sauce. Can't wait to go back!
Amazing breakfast. Great coffee! Definitely a must visit when in town.
The breakfast and coffee at laverne’s were very good. The breakfast menu was not your usual bacon and eggs. Fun flat breads with eggs ,breakfast burritos with goat cheese and so on. The serving sizes were quite large and the patio area and available seating is extensive! The patio/restaurant is wheelchair accessible. This restaurant is an order at the counter and pay before you eat type of restaurant so you have to bring your food to the table yourself / return your plates but from a pandemic standpoint this is actually a good thing, reducing contact. My only complaint is that because of this being a self serve type restaurant the tables were not being cleaned regularly. All in all I definitely recommend this restaurant and will go back.
what a fun coffee house. great food and coffee. across from the town park. funky fun decor
Great unique, fusion food in an eclectic atmosphere. Very nice and helpful staff. Good coffee in the connected coffee shop as well.
I was so so so excited to go here as my name is Laverne. I took pics by the sign. Unfortunately we didn’t even eat here. My family and I waited for nearly half an hour without bring spoken to and when I finally said something I was literally told by the owner “I don’t care how long you’ve waited”. ????. There were several available tables but we were not seated. I will never suggest this restaurant and feel the owner needs to have a much better attitude. ????
Very cute and yummy place for a quick lunch! Great food.
Great food the chicken wrap is good and house soup is the best
The Thai Chicken Salad was very flavorful. The fresh cut mangoes added a fresh flavor. The Wild West Burger with portabello mushroom was well prepared. They do take a lot of time to bring the food out, however the wait was worth it. It is a nice place to sit and chat while sipping your coffee.
Fabulous location, creative food, and wonderful staff. All in all a great experience.
Always great food and flavors. Excellent service and desserts. The best Cappachino.
Really enjoyed the mushroom cheese panini! Unique flavours and the food is delicately made. They have a cute patio right next to the brewery so we lucked out and heard some good live music as well :) Edit: Visiting again after a year and had to change our 5 star review to 4 stars because the service levels were dismal. Took 25 mins to seat us on an empty patio and an additional 40 mins to receive 3 small paninis. Understand that it's a tough time for restaurants but there was no sense of priority given to customers.
Nice place with a cool vibe.
So grateful they were open on Thanksgiving Monday. After a weekend on a houseboat on the St Lawrence,it was a prefect ending. Covid friendly.ourdoor or take out.
Great food every time
A nice place to hangout and enjoy a coffee. Try the breakast pastries!
Good place, great food and amazing service. The guy who helped us made different improvements to accommodate dietary restrictions and gave us an enjoyable brunch.
Great food and delicious coffee, if a little more expensive than I’d expected. The patio was adorable, except for the wasps. Staff weren’t the friendliest, but they were really busy so that’s understandable. Would grab a coffee there anytime!
Very clean and unique! I had breakfast and it was delicious. Coffee is to die for! Wow, it was good! I go there every time I am in Gananoque. 24 hours later and I returned hoping for more of the same. WRONG! I sat there totally ignored. The place wasn't busy and food was being sold It was like I was invisible. I ended up further on at Anthony At least I was recognized as a human being Totally disgusted with the way I was treated. There's no excuse for ignorance like that.
We ate breakfast at Laverne before boarding our Gananoque cruise. The food was excellent.
Came here as a tourist, were enjoying our honeymoon in nearby hotel. Found this place, they have fantastic menu. We enjoyed toast and cheese with the drink. It was in the middle of summer, we loved the vibe of the patio. Service was quick but they looked like understaffed, plenty tables were not bussed by the time we were there but who cared, we enjoyed together there.
Nice cozy little place! Awesome breakfast for a family of 4!!
Absolutely bad experience. Went in to see a out getting one of the open tables on the patio, owner was standing there chatting with people, totally ignored us. When he did realize we were there he told us to stand in another line for a waitress to seat us. Finally happened told to go around to patio and wait. Another 5- 10 minutes. Finally seated warm water brought to us ,drink order taken and disappeared. Another 10-15 brought us our drinks. She left again another 5-10 minutes later she came back to take order. No offer of drink refills after about 20 min we asked for something for kid to munch on( 1.5 year old) said she would bring us chips. Another 10 min. Finally she came and said she would check on how much longer for food, she did come back and say about 10 min. 30 minutes later food arrived. Not good eggs were cold and not cooked as asked, chips were actually a small thing of hickory sticks( not chips) we asked for ketchup never came. Asked for take out box and after 10 min had to break for it. Server had zero personality. I am from out of town but was with 3 locals. None of us will ever go back. We even told her not worth the 1.4 hour wait for food. Do not go if you do not have hours to wait for a mediocre meal with bad service.
Best breakfast Burrito I've ever had (I had the beef brisket) Cute Patio. I rank this place as one of the best restaurants in town. It had a retro vintage vibe! New age hippie! It also has a little herb garden in the patio free basil and rosemary with your food lol. The food was too good and I ate it right away, I did manage to take a photo of the coffee lol.
Just as good as before the name change. Delicious beef brisket... the hash is not the same without it. Very tasty cold brew coffee.
Outstanding! Meals were delicious, clearly made with high quality ingredients, and the service was good. Would definitely recommend breakfast at Laverne’s to anyone in the area!
Really nice place to go have a coffee. Enjoyed it!
Love this small rustic coffee house/restaurant! The food is organic and local and creative! Limited menu but so far it's all been great! Wine served in a thick tumbler....suits the place! Very laid back. It's worth a visit just to see the bar made from old books!!!
Excellent food! The best around. The attention to detail in the flavors and the overall vibe is ????????????
Stuffed avacodo with wilted spinach, smoked salmon and eggs benny ...sooo freaking good!!!! Oh and top notch americano ...tres bien!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast special. The staff and service was exceptional
Dine in
Amazing place and delicious food! The decor and vibes of this place are super cozy. The staff is friendly and attentive.
Just finished our beautiful breakfast and 2 lattes. The best food in Gananoque. Scratch cooking well worth the wait.
Cozy and charm. They have a great coffee. The ambient is super cozy and charm. Good to visit during afternoon for a tea or coffee.
Extremely good food! We ordered a Pig Mac (Macaroni and cheese Burger) and a Curry Burrito. The meat was phenomenal! The book bar in the cafe is also really cool to see! Would go again.
Extremely over rated place. Rude staff, overpriced and suuuuuuuuuupppppppeeeeer slow service
