We have the reviews of real people who used the services and products of Spiral Cafe (Coffee Shop) around Esquimalt area (Canada).
At this moment the business gets a score of 4.4 over 5 and the rating has been based on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that the average score it has is very good, and it's founded on a high number of feddbacks, so we can conclude that the rating is quite faithful. If there are many people who bothered to give their score when they've done well with the business, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to write reviews when these are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Coffee Shop belongs to the category of Coffee shop.
Rude and inconsiderate employees.
Always enjoyable and friendly atmosphere!
Best coffee shop.
Nice out of the way coffee shop. With piano for the customers
This is a vibrant and busy place. Great coffee, cool art, and a music night. I always enjoy the place on a Sunday morning.
Cozy and with character. Had a London fog and was quite nice. There is an amazing bakery next door, got a crispy perfect pan su chocolat to go with my LF.
Love the spiral Cafe
The cafe is a true Vic West classic, I love this coffee shop. The people are so friendly and make you feel at home. Check out the live music Friday and Saturday nights.
Cozy, lovely live music Weds 730-930
A cornerstone for the Vic West Community. Thank you Spiral for being the best place to get a cup of coffee.
Love it, it’s culture AND it’s SERIOUSLY time to remodel. That room is just gross and old at this point.
cozy cafe, beautiful neighborhood!
Pretty art and decent drinks.
One of our favourite cafes. Very local vibe. Great coffees and treats. Check out the large Africano!
Best london fog I have found
Best vanilla latte I've ever had
Good coffee and treats
Best Cafe in Victoria <3
The cafe is a lot of fun. Coffee is always great. You have to check out the bakery that is next door. That place is outstanding and with a cup of coffee from spiral Cafe, you can't go wrong. During some days there is live music at the spiral which is amazing. It really makes the community feel super comfortable.
Can't say enough good things about Spiral Cafe. Incredible hot and cold beverages, including matcha frappes, smoothies, best hot chocolate in town (try the Mexican Hot Chocolate!), and their signature 'Spicy Spiral' spiced espresso chai latte. Fantastic soups, snacks and baked goods, and other cafe food items for patio dining or take out in these Covid times.
Cool atmosphere here that fits in with the 'hippy style' neighborhood. Good Americano coffee and light snacks or soup. I didn't find the staff very friendly so that has resulted in the 3 star rating. Could be an easy fix but this is the second time and both visits were similar.
My spinach and feta turn over was so delicious. My cafe latte was good but I'm still figuring out my preferences for coffee. Service was quick and friendly.
Very cute and humble with amazing staff. This place feels so real and I would encourage anyone looking for a change from Starbucks or Tim hortons to try the Spiral out. It's been my go to ever since the day I discovered it.
Cozy ,comfortable ,delicious with great views. A warm environment to sit and enjoy the blessing that is good coffee and wonderful atmosphere.
Really neat vibe, and a decent tea latte at fair comparable price. Will have to return to take in the charm more and see no reason why, if I paid more attention, I couldn't offer up a 5 star next time!
Welcome smile from the Barista is worth the visit... The baked goods selection overwhelming.. and the coffee is fantastic..
Great place in West Vic to get coffee. The atmosphere is really nice, there are several paintings on the walls, it reminds me of Europe and it is located in front of a beautiful park!
great local place, highly recommend, coffee is afford and good quality. way better than starbucks or tim hortons. great community vibe
The most welcoming place in Victoria. Kid and family friendly ????
Great local spot for coffee and snacks.
Breakfast in Bed pastries are delicious. Didn't make it back to bed though...
Great local coffee shop with lots of nice art.
Very good local cafe. Excellent coffee and friendly.
Great place for coffee after grabbing baked goods from next door
Very busy small neighbourhood coffee shop. Very cozy ,and the haphazard furniture makes for the unique "hippy look", punctuated with funky abstract art hanging on the walls. The coffee tasted great, so no complaints there. Service was friendly and fast. Free newspaper definitely a bonus.Outdoor seating and also entertainment a few nights of the week. Parking is a tough go.
Great cafe otherwise and always has nice music nights and interesting art for sale. I do recommend. Kind of expensive, though, tbh.
We came here everyday while we stayed in Esquimalt. It was our local coffee shop.
I love this place! Excellent coffee, iced tea etc, delicious snacks and an unbeatable community atmosphere.
Great place for coffee and treats
Great place for a treat and a coffee.
A local gem. Very relaxed atmosphere and the staff are really awesome. I always get the Angel Water tea and listen to the live music for a bit.
Love this Cafe. Staff is always so friendly and quick! Love the owners, always see them inside having a coffee and conversing with the customers.
Awesome service
A second home with better coffee and snacks! Live music some nights and dedicated staff, the heart of the Vic West community
Decent coffee with an extremely welcoming atmosphere
Always my go to cafe, iced latte is amazing
No Wifi, we're not in 1990 anymore! Good food and coffee, but a pointless place to bring your laptop!
Like this place. Tonight there was good music too We'll go back there for sure.
Excellent coffee, in the front and out the back to a beautiful garden. How pleasant. Also the female who served me has a voice that is so soft she could easily be my cognitive therapist. Definitely going back there.
I've come here to listen to music but it has great food and great service nice atmosphere
Great little spot, a stones throw from the water! Soup and sandwiches are delicious!
Thursday night jam a real treat. great people and great talent
First class coffee and cozy family atmosphere.
Very cute and good coffee! Affordable too!
Good coffee, good treats, fantastic staff, and probably the most authentic Vic West vibe in the neighbourhood. The floors are a treasure.
Funky cafe in Vic West village. Great for tea/coffee and light snacks and people gazing. Pre-covid 19 saw swing band on Wednesday notes and popular open mic on Thursday nites...to be resumed when pandemic ends.
Small, expensive portions. Slow service.
This is one the best coffee shops in Victoria. It's a very charming, unique location. Great coffee and homemade snacks. Fingers crossed it never changes.
Actully Really good hot chocolate Not water, its sweet but not to sweet And its right next to a bakery that sells pretzels! Whaaaaaat
Surprise great gem. Great people. Live music some evenings.
I always pick the times when there is live music to go to the Spiral Cafe. Open mic on Thursdays are mind blowing in variety and overall quality with a top notch supporting band. There are also excellent concerts Fridays and Saturdays to enjoy with your coffee, selection of teas, simple savory plates, soups, and lush deserts. A local gem.
Friendly staff. Great art on the walls.
Thursday between 6 and 9:30 pm. is the time to go to the Spiral Cafe if you like to perform at an Open Mic. Very receptive audience to sing or recite poetry. Back up band as well if you want it.
Tasty beans, nice staff...usual suspects every morning
AmaZing local owners & litte gem coffee shop! Nex dor to the Best bakery in town! No wifi But they have books/mags , great ppl.viewing, a park across the street and focus on CONNECTION =)
Beautiful place, great community. Love it!
Good coffee and food. Went to the cafe for the first time last night and I had a wonderful time there. The atmosphere is very relaxing and and it is inviting to sitting and talk with friends. There is a piano in the middle of the cafe and while I was there someone say down and started to play the piano and it made my time there feel better. I would highly recommend this cafe.
A place that hippies and new age people and retired people and travellers get coffee, listen to live music and lol at and purchase local artists paintings
A quaint fun relaxing VicWest experience full of music and great service whenever I’m in town my first choice for coffee!
Stopped in for lunch. Butter Chicken Wrap with Salad was delicious! Will be back again.
Great americano that is dark roast way smoother taste as well as great community spot.
Quaint neighborhood cafe with an excellent choice of coffees, teas, and baked goods, like cookies and bars. A few gluten free and vegan options. Very friendly staff.
I smiled from the moment I walked in. Thank you for the warmth shared around the whole community! Picked up a Lg Mocha, Med London fog and 2 pepperoni sticks. Everything is awesome! We'll be back for bagels very soon.
Good coffee and tea, nice atmosphere, interesting art on the walls... and people are often willing to share a table or move on if the place is full.
I never write reviews, but this place needs a good call out for the exceptionally rude customer service. In reading past reviews, it seems this is a problem here. I also work in customer service and I get that times are tough right now, but man, what’s up with the attitude?! Getting a coffee should/could be a quite pleasant experience. Not here. Go elsewhere.
Liked this place. Homely.
Great coffeehouse
They were nice I accidentally ended up drinking two drink my partner couldn't have their drink opps. Nice people running the place.
Live blues, coffee and an amazing coconut brownie!
Spiral cafe is a fantastic coffee shop. Very locally supportive. Cool art and aesthetic. Best coffee shop in Vic West I say!
My goto coffee shop in Vic West. Been going for years and will always return! Kid friendly and is always completely chilled. Still wanna hit up a music night but never seem to find the time.
Such a beautiful place to be with friends.
Its amazing there. And the coffee is the best.
Lovely place with lovely workers
A wonderful & chill place! Smoothie was fantastic.
Really good coffee! Delicious baking.
Super friendly cafe and variety local musicians play in evening, ditch Starbucks or chain coffee shops, go with local coffee shop. We visit from Monterey area, listened to Phil's and friends performing their own written music. That was awesome!
Nice place
A friendly and comfortable cafe that is the heart of its community, like Cheers but without Norm or beer. Good coffee, though a very limited menu. The daily soup is always good and the quinoa brownies are excellent. They often have open mike nights, and other live music events.
Just moved across the road with my roommate and we are both new to the area (have only been here a few days). We were attempting to get an item at the bakery next door but it was closed. We figured the cafe may have the baked good for purchase too, so went in and asked if they carry it. Black haired man behind the counter displayed some of the rudest and passive aggressive attitude I have witnessed. We simply inquired if they carry the item and he replied, "Look.. Do you see it here?.. Then no." No reason to talk to speak to customers this way. We drink coffee multiple times a day and have literally moved right across the street so it's unfortunate that we will not be back.
This place is super warm, good coffee and great family friendly and family run place. They also have fun music nights. Highly recommend it!
Its good
Charming, funky, local cafe
Spiral Café is funky with a loyal neighbourhood clientèle. The staff are observing the Covid-19 restrictions. Delicious coffee!
Nice community hub atmosphere. Good munchies and coffee.
Local gathering place for good vibes. Jam sessions Thursdays, live music most weekends, Small, cosy, friendly vibes.
Decent coffee, good treats and great staff but very grungy and overdue for a reno.
Cozy little hole in the wall with excellent london fogs and hot chocolates. Delightfully cheery staff, and sometimes live music! Great place to go to read a book with a hot beverage.
Always good java and teas in a comfy, make yourself at home space.
Always amazing. Lots of memories and good time with friends have been had here over the years!
Great staff, lovely owners. Well made drinks. Love that the bakery items are from Lonetree, a local bake shop. A comfy atmosphere if you choose to stay in and if you'd prefer to take your drink to go there are two playgrounds within minutes. Waking paths, and swimming area across the street. A lovely little Victorian run business.
Love this place.
The Vegan cookie ????
The coffee was very good, I wish they had more food options.
Great coffee shop
What a beautiful little spot! Lovely staff and great coffee!
Neighborhood joint.
Great spot for a coffee and lunch. I lost 20 dollars in their store one time. The next day the server remembered that I was sitting in the general area that the money was found and returned it to me. This coffee shop seems to be like a community hub. They encourage local musicians to share their talent as well as allowing artist to display their paintings on the walls.
Walked in and loved the atmosphere, however the barista seemed in a very bad mood and was very short with us. The coffee tastes good but there was so much foam that my drink was only 1/2 full.. I’m a barista that loves checking out other coffee shops and was very disappointed on this one.
love the vibes and the art! and the mexican hot chocolate. one of the last cozy cafes left in vic
Love this place. Great coffee and great ambience.
It's been awhile since I've been but spiral Cafe has always been somewhere people from all walks of life can have a family and a home there warm and welcoming
Cosy, kid friendly
Unique experience. Really tasty
My fave local coffeeshop. It's the perfect spot to meet up with friends and walk to nearby parks!
A neighborhood favourite
Enjoyed the chai latte. Love the neighbourhood.
The food and drinks are good
Great environment. My americano was very hot and tasty. Excellent pastry selection. Definitely recommended.
Was alright. Lowkey kinda sucked. Bakery beside it slaps though.
Read other lowly rated reviews and you'll see the trends that force people to post about their poor experiences. I would say half of the staff are friendly, though some of them seem incapable of being that way which is a bit odd for the type of business that is ran. Depends on the day and who is working. As for what they provide for services, there is no wifi so I have had to use my cell data to use my laptop. The coffee is okay but the hot food they serve is all reheated and everything is overpriced for what you get. Do not bother with any of the wraps, you will regret that especially. I like supporting local business rather than corporate, though, so I was originally willing to overspend. What really threw me off is that the owner just told me to no longer sit at the larger tables because I'm there "for hours" which apparently is a bad thing... I get that some of the larger tables are intended for groups but the owner should be considering that I can't fit my laptop and school work on the tiny one person tables they have. Typically I would purchase a meal as well, and there's no way for me to fit more than the plate, or a book, or a laptop -- you are forced to choose one thing only with this kind of set up... it's just not ideal. I have always tipped and typically would purchase $20, sometimes $25 or more worth of food and coffee as a means for the time I'd be there if it went past an hour or two. For context, I go to coffee shops to work away from home and if that's not feasible then it defeats the purpose of going there, as well as supporting the local business at an extra expense for me compared to other options in Victoria. I could go to a pub, restaurant or anywhere else and pay the same for much more and my own table. This is also coming from someone who would also only use the larger tables when necessary, and if I were just using one item, like reading a book or just sipping coffee, then I would not be doing so and instead resort to a smaller spot if I stayed. Clearly the owner doesn't understand some of their potential customer base and why they may come in to sit down. Work on providing better options for both groups and single persons coming in and you won't have to talk down to your customers for being in your business. Invest in better seating arrangements if you don't like how YOU set it up. Don't put the blame on some of your most supportive client base. That's really discouraging to experience, feeling like I'm inconveniencing them for simply using their space... what else is it intended for? Bathrooms are also unavailable to the public, but I have consistently seen some of the staff bring in a whole troop of kids (as many as 6 at a time) to use them while in front of the customers, taking up large spaces as well for long durations and being loud as hell. I wouldn't have included this but with what I just mentioned above, it rubs salt in the wound and shows a clear double standard. Additionally, I've overheard staff gossiping about some of their regulars... I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, they're human after all and perhaps they have difficult customers, but after supporting their business and being treated the way I was, I really see how this place is being ran and I'm going to go elsewhere from now on. No point in spending $50 to $100 a week on a place that doesn't value your support or presence. In closing, if you'd rather support a local business but want better and friendlier service, seating or options then try one of the other cafes instead (Fantastico, Union Pacific and 2% are all great and the staff are amazing). You'll get more for your money's worth out of the food as well and likely won't be talked down to for being there working.
A cute cafe with great ambiance. The drinks and food are great.
Truly welcoming, amazing people and entertainment.
Great little eclectic neighborhood coffee shop with Shaw wifi. Great place to relax or bang out a couple of chapters in that novel you're writing.
Sorry to be a contrarian to all the good reviews. An unpleasant and confusing experience... Having ordered a coffee around 530pm, with the place looking like it was about to close I inquired if I would have time to sit outside to enjoy it. I had already checked the hours of business on the door, which are the ones listed on the website (Mon. & Wed.: 7am - 9:30 pm.) I was told no, pretty abruptly. OK I thought did I misread? As I walked back towards the hours of business I heard "I can't believe you actually going to check...." At this point I realised my business was not wanted, so I cancelled my order and left, not before being told "You are not welcome here again". Can I suggest you make the opening hours for your cafe a little more in line with the actual hours, though I guess that would no longer be for my benefit.
Friendly staff, nice menu. I come here all the time and love it.
Funky little local cafe. Nice change from chains.
An eclectic lil place! Very cozy and community focused! I don't think there's two of the same chair in this place. They also have pasta stir sticks - how fun and quirky
Laid back vibe for sure, comfy old furniture in the back and live bands play in the front some evenings. Their London fogs and banana chocolate loaf are delightful as well!
Great local spot for coffee, and very friendly service ❤️
Great artwork on display
Beautiful coffee please and goodys .????????????
Awesome little coffee shop located in the heart of Vic West. Great variety of baked goods too. If you are wondering where all the local moms hang out with their massive strollers, this is the spot! London fog is the bomb
Live music good people nice place
Great experi3n
I just had the server At spiral cafe look right through me standing in line. Walk to the back without saying a word and not come back for several minutes. The rudeness was astounding and I will stop even giving them a chance.
Love the Spiral! My wife and I come here quite frequently. The coffee and the food are good, it's a great atmosphere, and the live music is always a treat.
Great coffee and baked goods with wonderful service to top it off.
Good place good prices
Inviting, relaxing and genuine. The coffee is some of the best in the city.
Good drinks good food poor service
This coffee shop has NO WIFI. Everything else is great.
Great service and coffee
Good coffee definitely recommend
Arrived looking forward to trying their breakfast buns shown under photos. No breakfast options to start. We order a ice frappe - it tasted dry an powdery on the inside. A quarter into the drink my wife smells it and the whip cream appears to have soured. Overall very disappointing.
Really awesome place to study and relax. Full of character with lots of good options and comfortable seating. I will definetly frequent this place.
Good coffee, nice chill spot. A vanishingly rare, homey type of coffee shop.
God food,funky beetnik atmosphere
Good coffee shop
Always a good selection of delicious lunch goodies.
Only got a coffee, but want to try more.
Casual, inexpensive cafe on the way into town. It reminds me of some of the places on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. My soup was really good.
