I give them 1 star for at least caring enough to serve free-range eggs, which is the only reason we went there. Otherwise, they would get no stars for apathetic service, for which you tip beforehand when paying - BIG mistake, and a chincy-ness that sends the message: we don't care about cultivating repeat customers. We ordered the huevos rancheros, which, taste-wise, weren't bad. But I ordered the 1-egg version because I was told by the cashier that it was a lot of food. Well, it was about 4 bites. But the worst was that on both the website and wall menu, sour cream and guacamole were included in the meal, but we were charged $1 for sour cream and $1.50 for guac. When the meals came there was about a teaspoon of each. I mean, why bother!? That kind of nickel and dime-ing is a huge turnoff, and the reason I was given was that they've started a new thing called Mexican Mondays. But I was there on a Saturday. That's like saying - We've painted the bathroom blue so we're now charging for items that were once included in the meal. So, my paltry plate of food went from an almost reasonably priced $7, to $9.50 (1 tortilla and 1 egg!). Needless to say - NEVER GOING BACK!

Steve-O's is a Halifax tradition. I love the coffee of course, and breakfast goes until 1pm on weekdays, so I have it for lunch. The egg-o-reno sandwiches are great, but I really appreciate the simple perfection of the breakfast plate. Two delicious eggs, toast, tomato with dill, and a choice of sides (I like the smoked salmon). It's done well.

Unfortunately, this cafe has decided to close at 2:00 now. They say it's because of Covid. Covid does not come out at 2 pm. They are using this excuse to maximize profits by just getting the morning and lunch crowd. As a business owner, they have the right to set whatever hours they want. As a customer, I have a right to buy my coffee at other places. What they will soon realize is by closing to afternoon crowd it will slow down their morning crowd eventually as people like me that sometimes go morning and afternoon will stop going. On that note because they don't feel the need to be open for a full day to service their clients, I will not be going anymore, even when they are open. I owned many businesses over the years and I use to have employees calling me wanting to close early because they said it would save me money. I banked on a long vision and even though it was slower in the afternoon and I sometimes I would spend more for staff than I brought in I was all about servicing the client. I can say without a doubt that approach worked and helped me build my business. Other franchises in my group that took the short vision and closed early were out of business in a year.

I Love this place!!!!!!! I have wanted to try this place out for quite a while, always closed when I am in the area. This place is so unique and cozy, I Love it!!!!! My Chai latte was Awesome!!!!! The staff are very friendly and helpful, I loved the soft jazz background music, I didn't want to leave. Such a wonderful experience, a real treasure in Halifax. Slowest service of any cafe I've been to in downtown Halifax. Arrived on a Wednesday at around 9:25 and was 4th in line. I ordered 1 latte and didn't leave till 9:53... I worked at 10 and was really looking forward to a bit of time before my workday started but ended up rushing to work and was a couple of minutes late. I hear the food is good but if you're popping in for a quick coffee to go I could not discourage you more from going here.

I like their steve-o-reno breakfast and I really their vegan chilli with cheese on top. I had their coffee at their farmers market location and it was pretty good too. I like their mocha more than the canadiana misto. Their service is pretty fast too. I find that their website had a lower price for food than the one posted on their board.

Honestly, I'm not sure what the hype is all about for this place. I would say it's a regular cafe that serves coffee and a select assortment of food items. I didn't find it tasted unbelievable or anything, but maybe that's just me? The atmosphere is chill and hipster-feel. I ordered the egg muffin sandwich and I think they cook the egg in a microwave which isn't the best but given the small size of the kitchen I guess you can't be overly picky.

The charm of this place is great. Coffee is amazing. We had cappuccino and americano. They do not have fried things. Like bacon fried eggs etc. just so you know. Eggs are boiled. Breakfast was clean and delicious. I wanted the Huevos Rancheros but this is only served on weekends.

My first visit to Steve O Reno's on Brunswick St. I love good cappuccino and am always looking for a good one. I met my granddaughter for coffee downtown, Halifax. Parking is such a premium, any time of day or night, so was lucky to find a spot. The coffee shop was not very busy so we found a table and managed to spend a couple of hours catching up. The coffee was delicious. We also shared a chucked salad sandwich. It was very tasty, with apple and cranberry mixed with the chicken. There was a pickle on the plate but it was so shriveled up that we didn't try it. The place is small, and very busy most times, I'm sure but it was mid Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely go again.

So, I used to get the rosemary bagel with hummus and tomatoes, I liked it, but it felt missing something and it was the only option without eggs and ham. Then I discovered their green breakfast sandwich, It Is to die for! I cant get enough. Literally I am ordering this every two days. Going with the No egg policy, they were very kind to replace it with hummus and reduce the price too. The english muffin is toasted and warm, spread on one side is the creamy hummus and the other a salty crunch pesto. It is filled with sprouts and spinach and large chunks of avocado sprinkled with coarse sea salt and freshly cracked pepper! They are so many layers of flavour that I Just Love! I asked for it to be without the mozza since to me it kinda didn’t fit and it adds fat but no flavour. See you in two days ????

This is a great uncomplicated place to get a coffee. Note, there are no drip coffee options but Americanos are available at a comparable price. Mine was great! I had a quiet business meeting in a side corner and was very comfortable doing so. Light jazz and (possibly thundercat?) was playing at a very reasonable background level.

I ordered a Egg-O-Reno with 'The Works'. It was a Sunday, not very busy. It took 40 minutes for them to make it, which I find ridiculous when I can make it myself faster. I also feel bad for tipping them beforehand, which they didn't deserve. The sandwich itself was good, but the service was poor. If you order food, expect to wait long.

May not have been the best day when we went last week - they had issues with making some types of coffee and that seems to have thrown them. Also, the girl at the counter was being heavily trolled by some desperate guy and pretty much couldn't give us much time. Her cohort from the back noticed and waited on us instead. In addition to the limited coffee selections (issues were posted apologetically on the door), they also seemed to be out of pretty much anything cold, and the only baked goods/snacks around were some pre-wrapped gluten-free cookies. Blech! So overall, not a satisfactory visit.

I've been traveling for a few days and was getting tired of over large breakfasts and this place was exactly what I was looking for: casual, fresh, homey. They do have bigger plates but a good, freshly made breakfast sandwich was just what I wanted.

A neat little place. The breakfast sandwich and cookie were awesome. I was disappointed the huevos rancheros weren't available when i went there Sunday. That was pretty much the main reason I went.

Ive been many coffee shops all over the place and was very pleasently suprised when i (somewhat accidently) came accross this one, it is a bit hidden but you dont usually find gems in ppain sight. The Coffee was perfect, staff were friendly, great atmosphere. $3 for a double americano is very fairly priced especially for a small shop and they open early too, no complaints at all!

There's something you have to understand about me, and that's the fact that I'm the type of person who is enthused and drawn to a place just because the name rhymes--imagine how excited I was to learn about Steve's! Their drip coffee is wonderful, much due to the fact that they carry North Mountain coffee, roasted in Berwick NS and a pleasure to drink, and the atmosphere is relaxed and airy. This feels like a perfect place to read the newspaper and do the crossword, or catch up with an old friend. I know those are very specific activities, but those are the vibes this place gives off for me! Make sure to drop in and visit.

On vacay stopped by this little cafe for lunch. Best bagel and smoked salmon I have had in A long time. Super fresh! Coffee was good too. Nice relax atmosphere sitting by the window listening to their tunes.

Went here on a Friday morning right after opening and you can tell they are popular to the locals! Tables were filling up fast but we managed to snag one inside. We ordered the traditional breakfasts and two coffees. W whelk for was good!

Lovely local coffee shop with a good breakfast menu. Very tasty without being too fancy. It is very consistent and very time we have been there the food has been the same great quality. It is a small coffee shop and kind of crowded which makes it difficult if you have a group of 4 or more. But that aside, the service is good and the food comes out in a timely manner. Highly recommend this coffee shop.

A sparkling gem in downtown Halifax, having been lovingly polished since 1996. Hands down one of the best handcrafted hot drink spots in the city. They even have their own bean blend from North Mountain coffee for their medium filter coffee option and it is heavenly. Baked goods are second to none, with hearty, classic options available, and they bake fresh in house every single day (and they use real butter too!) On top of all of this, Steve's is a tasty breakfast or lunch spot with classic and rotating menu items that can cater to every taste or dietary request. Other awesome features: -Patio -Clean bathrooms -Friendly and awesome staff -The owner is one of the coolest people ever -Perfect dog watching spot -Central location for shopping at local businesses !

I went here today cause I wanted some breakfast & had some loose change. Got the egg-o-reno with the works on it & OMG!!! it was so delicious and it didn't make you feel like you regretted either like I have after eating some fast food places version of breakfast. Only thing is I think I will order a 2 shot macchiato next time. Will be back!!!
