I have been going to Mary's Place II for years. It is my absolute favourite spot in Halifax. Lots of options for all kinds of diets (GF, vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free). Staff is super knowledgeable about Celiac disease and cross-contamination. Love the club sandwich. Love the new GF cake. Love the Middle Eastern breakfast. Best little breakfast place in Halifax! We got their "champ" plate which came with beautiful portions. Bacon was cooked to perfection. Sunny side up eggs were some of the best I've had. The sausages were nice and juicy not all dried out like most places. The waiter was super friendly and polite. Oh yeah and their chocolate hotcakes are to die for, even came with real whip cream. Definitely a top choice for me and highly recommend it to anyone else traveling through the area.

OMG! Excellent food and the service is above and beyond! Discovered this place on the weekend of June 8-10. Had supper. Went back for breakfast and supper again. The flat potatoes they serve with breakfast are TO DIE FOR! A real must-try if in the area. I also appreciate the fact that they are very environmentally conscience.

Ate here several times in June. Menu is straightforward and delicious. On the coast this is the place you should go for a fantastic breakfast or fish and chips. Definitely recommend! If you're looking for a place where vegans, vegetarians and omnis can eat together for a very reasonable price, this is the place. While I go typically for the brunch fare, they have typical meals on the menu as well. It's great food and after tax and tip I'm usually under/around 15 dollars.

As a vegan I really appreciate restaurants that make such a great effort with their menu so I really hate to write this because the food was SO good. I had a tofu scramble skillet and it was 11/10 minus the giant hair I discovered cooked inside after eating half of the dish. I didn't want to be a bother but my friend mentioned the hair to the server and when she saw it she was pretty apologetic and said that it would be free. I went to the bathroom while my friend paid, she was charged for my meal full price and the waitress that said it would be free watched it all happen and just walked away. It should have been brought to others attention that we weren't meant to be charged or she could have said something instead of watch us pay. I was really looking forward to taking my other friends here but that was a really slimy thing to do so I won't be back!

Dirty, cheap, and less then mediocre food, the pricetag is this diners only saving grace. On the first point; as you can see from the photo the diner is in a desperate state of disrepair. There was also a general lack of cleanliness, it is strange to watch someone fill salt shakers in front of you by picking up the salt by hand and dropping it in. Second point is that there was this strange athmosphere of greed that saturated the restaurant, have you ever seen a diner that charges extra for maple syrup on pancakes? Or have a great big sign on the front declairing "no outside food or drink"? The food itself was on the lower end, pancakes were chewy and dense, sandwhich was dry with an overcooked egg, the only saving grace as that the total fare was only 18 dollers, odd considering all the strange surcharges.

Ahh, Mary's Place. First, let's acknowledge a truth: the decor is a bit rough and, frankly it embodies the stereotype of a greasy spoon. BUT... this is part of its charm. They have some awesome standard dishes, but far and away the thing that keeps me coming back is THE SERVICE. They are so good! I've seen the same front of house staff there for years and they're always kicking ass and taking names (orders?). Kudos to these women for making a small diner with a very modest interior into a fixture on Spring Garden Rd. Word to the wise for families - you're likely to be surrounded by hungover university kids rather than young families. But it's part of the charm, in a way... the place has a youthful energy to it.

Mary's Place is a must go every time I visit Halifax. This restaurant has remained my first stop local restaurant for many years, for good reason. Serving ethnic/international cuisine, alongside cheap, hearty and delicious breakfast, Mary's has what you're hungry for. With vegan and vegetarian options aplenty. To top it all off, they serve some of the best treats and baked goods I've ever tasted. This place is where you go with a hungry stomach, but not a fortune to spare. As a customer, I should not feel bad about asking for water or be bombarded with questions about where I’m from and whether I’ve quarantined just because I’m Chinese. My sister and I were across the street at the Professional Center and asked a delivery driver in the elevator where to get a great breakfast. He recommended Mary's Place and he was so on the money. The breakfast was delicious. The service was friendly and prompt. I definitely will be going back there if in the area, or at the location of the original Mary's Place somewhere in Greater Halifax.

Great coffee and fair prices. We had two breakfasts for $25 with tax and tip included. It was packed and we got the last seat in the house. It seems like a popular place without an empty table the whole time we were there. The layout is narrow and deep. All tables are against the wall which makes the seating layout comfortable. We were served water and offered coffee as soon as we were seated. The omelette was well prepared but the eggs were oddly dry. The potatoes have a unique flavouring which we liked and the multigrain toast was extra tasty. Sadly the meal was not served as hot as it could be. The staff were working hard but I wish the service was just little bit better but maybe it's me; the table in front of us knew everyone by name.

This is our go-to brunch spot whenever we're in Halifax. Unassuming old-fashioned place, with old-fashioned service. Large selection on the menu- we've ordered lots of different items and were never disappointed. Far enough away from the bustle on Spring Garden Rd that you can enjoy a leisurely meal but still be able to people watch (inside and out). Support independent places like this, they deserve it!

I like this place a lot. Delicious food, healthy options, fair prices, competent and kindly staff. Their veggie chilli is almost perfect. Would give 5 stars, but it lacks the ambiance of a 5-star place. Benches are a little shabby, and my friend complains he “smells like Mary’s” afterwards. Regardless, I like it there a lot!

I ate here and after 1.5 hr of sitting and talking with a relative I hadn't seen in a while we were kicked out for being there too long? Then the older woman who works there asked if I had a problem with that and was insanely rude to me. It was one of the weirdest and rudest experiences I've ever had at a restaurant! She also had an attitude when she "apologized" then continued to try to argue with me by asking where I'm from, even though I kept trying to just get our bills paid for and leave. I didn't even bring it up she was the one who kept pushing me to argue with her. It was actually so unprofessional and rude. Make sure you don't go when they have a line or you'll be rushed out!

The food is good but the place is not run very efficiently. We arrived shortly after 12 pm and found ourselves in a line-up at the door. In addition to have several 4-seater tables occupied with only 1 customer or perhaps two, again, they placed 1 customer (waiting in front of us) at a four-seater table, and 2 customers (also in front of us) at a six-seater table which is why we had to cut our precious lunch time short by 25 minutes. Also, the lady with the long curly hair at the cashier walks uncovered through the kitchen which is not hygienic.

I know this is a locally beloved spot, and we went at a rather busy time so I won't come down too hard on the service. But man, the food was just not good. Bland and cold and falafel balls that had the consistency of balled up wet cardboard. If you're ever stopping by and it's lined up out the door keep walking. Many other places around that can serve an ok bacon and eggs where you won't feel like you're eating in a sardine can.
