The Dilly Dally is such a great little, locally owned cafe. The staff are pleasant and outgoing. Their menu is your usual cafe offerings, but they also serve food that's either made in their kitchen or pastries and the sort that are also locally made from.places in the city. The cafe is quaint, but that makes for a good place to read, write, or have a quiet conversation. Definitely check this place out if you want to support local businesses.

My favourite coffee shop (in the world... sorry Old Hand) hands down. Their rotating selection of scones are definitely worth a try. If you like Java Blend coffee then try it here, in my opinion Jeremy pulls his shots better than Java Blend staff! It is very small and popular so you might find it hard to find a seat. My recommendation is go for an early weekend breakfast and you will have lots of room.... PS. they also make the perfect temp & size baby-ccino (aka. kids steamer)

I tried out Dilly Dally a handful of times and was excited to find out they used Java blend coffee. The first drip coffee i got seemed really lacking in flavor which was a shock cause java blend beans are the best in the city.( just my opinion) but this just tasted watered down and lacked any flavor for $3 dollars. i went back and gave it a couple more chances and every time the coffee just had no flavor at all. Disappointing at that price but i guess maybe you are paying for the window seating and people watching but i rather have a really good coffee.

‘Hospitality chose me’. Every so often I have the pleasure of meeting café owners who do it for love. It’s something that runs deep. As deep as the oceans crossed by those migrants who made Melbourne their home post world war two. Melissa Glentis is the granddaughter of Greek natives who set sail many decade ago, in hope of a better life. They paved the way for the generations to come, and raised the bar for what being hospitable actually is. I can always tell when a person is speaking from the heart, when tears well in their eyes upon questioning their heritage. It comes as no surprise though. Walking into Dilly Daly in South Yarra, I was immediately stuck by the warmth created by staff members who didn’t hesitate to ask me how my day was. It’s rather ironic that a venue with such a playful name has richness in meaning and significance. Melissa was raised in a family of hospitality veterans; and though she tried her hand at Law and Commerce; she had a calling that could not be denied. From the age of 10, she learnt the value of showing love by feeding the mouths of those around her, and her home was always full of people. It was this environment in which she learnt the art of being hospitable. A dying art, may I add. So today, as the owner of Dilly Daly, Melissa treats every single person who walks through her door, as though they are walking into her living room. It’s a feeling I hold in high regard, and crave daily. While Dilly Daly may be a play on words, considering the venue is located on Daly Street, it’s also a reflection of Melissa’s prowess in being the Queen of Procrastination. Thankfully, she didn’t stall in her efforts to take the reins at this South Yarra café, and has nurtured what today is a true representation of Melbourne’s café culture. With its clean Scandi design, and fresh brunch menu, Dilly Daly offers a sanctuary for both locals and visitors from afar. Not only are they licensed (with a list of cocktails that include the espresso martini, mimosa, and breakfast martini), but they also do dinner sessions with Chef Petros Dellidis, who offers a 5 course menu featuring seasonal produce sourced from local farmers, and inspired by his Greek heritage. All day breakfast favourites include the DD choc chip Hotcakes topped with berry syrup , poached pear, and Nutella injection’; and the ‘Stacks on, Rosti’ which are potato Rosti sandwiches filled with smashed avocado and bacon, and topped with poached egg and pico de gallo. Coffee is sourced from Vertue Coffee Roasters, with the Sabretooth blend for milk based espresso, and rotating singles for black coffee. I was treated to a filter brew using the Peruvian Bosques Verdes, from San Ignacio. This washed lot had sweet plum tones, with green apple acidity. The perfect accompaniment to the Healthy Bowl with a vegan twist, loaded with Edamame, Bok Choy, Cauli Rice, and a tamarind ginger dressing.

Visiting the area and stopped in for a couple of take out Americanos. Cute little spot. Busy on a Saturday morning. Lots of folks eating food that looked and smelled good. One thing made me slightly uncomfortable; when the young lady at the counter took my order, she said, "There's an option to add a tip. Would you like to add a tip today"? That felt a little pushy.

Coming here was a mistake. I had high expectations initially. I ordered a latte with soy milk, yet it tasted water down and bland. The bagel sandwich with egg and pesto had a thin ring of pesto around one side, and you could not taste it, and the bagel was stale almost hard. I was surprised to pay so much when I ended up not being able to stomach either items, disposing of both. Just a warning to avoid going late because the quality may not be consistent. Staff were really nice however, but I feel the food needs improvement.

I have been going to this coffee shop for months and I feel I should talk about it. I have never had a coffee experience like this place before and I love it. It feels like walking home and seeing family. This is the first place where they know my name and care about me. Their coffee is top quality and local to my knowledge. I always get the carrot spice late. Tastes like liquid carrot cake with a splash of espresso. Their food is a little expensive but worth it. The cook should be proud. They have vegetarian, vegan and gluten free food. I as a vegetarian love this. I just hope the staff get to read this so they know they're amazing and they make my morning.

I am a frequent visitor to Dilly Dally and marvel that one small Halifax business can have such incredible staff who are always consistently utterly charming and know pretty well all of the regulars' names. I give Laura, my highest regards as she is the most upbeat person, I think I have ever encountered and is the ultimate people person and so compassionate and caring. Ray is on top of having everything well oiled in the tiny kitchen producing yummy, yummy goodies. Kudos to them all and long may they reign glorious and free.

Dilly Dally serves wonderful dishes and baked goods made in house, while also carrying some local treasures like Java Blend coffee and Montreal Style Bagels (the tiny shop by the MacDonald bridge). A beautiful little spot with a perfect mix of good atmosphere and charm. The lunch and breakfast menu is limited, but appealing; with a quality over quantity approach that I can't be mad at. First time customer experience. Today was the first time I've ever tried this gem of a coffee shop/ barista. Impeccable food, impeccable americanos. I also tried the smoked salmon bagel, beautifully crafted with impressive garnish you rarely see nowadays. I truly believe with a larger establishment this place would BOOM. trendy, country, amazing staff, friendly, very nice group of people, between staff and customers. Love this place! Food, service, and overall vibe is all one of a kind. On top of delicious food (sandwiches, pastries, and coffees), they also sell local, hand crafted items like candles, soaps, and greeting cards. My only complaint is the space is very small so it's hard to rely on getting a table and can feel cramped during the lunch rush. Otherwise, the place is A1!

The COZIEST cafe in the city! We love this place as a go-to to take visitors, and for saturday-morning treat-yourselfs :) the golden milk and matcha tea lattes are incredible and the Americanos are equally as tasty. The decor/branding is great, and they create an incredible atmosphere. The baristas are always friendly and greet you with a smile. Be sure to start a loyalty card for your 10th drink free. There's a washroom, 3 parking spots out back (more on surrounding streets) about 10 tables, and miscellaneous decor for sale. They sell alcoholic drinks (random for a cafe) and delicious looking food. I say "looking" because I've never eaten but I'm sure it's tasty from seeing others' reactions! Starbucks is opening across the street, but I will forever stay a devoted customer to the Dilly Dally :)

My go to Coffee house in Halifax. Love the vibe and I LOVE that it thrives despite having a huge fat Starbucks right across the street. Dilly Dally does it right, the coffee and espresso's are wonderful and the snacks, baked goods, sandwiches and other munchies FAR surpass the across the street neighbor. Don't waste your time on the Starbucks across the street make the stop at Dilly Dally and enjoy the very non corporate vibe.

I've been following Dilly Dally for a while on IG so it's been on our "must try" list. Today was such a great day to walk around Halifax - and when I saw we were just up the street from Dilly Dally, we decided to pop by! First, this is the cutest little shop. Everything from the design, the layout, the colours, the patio - so much attention goes into keeping this community space beautiful. It was really welcoming. They have lots of great signage up and around re: how and wear to place your order, and even the sidewalk was marked for social distancing. I had a strawberry lemon iced tea and my husband had a iced mocha. Both were just what we needed for a long walk around town! But the real winner here was the panzerotti scone we had. Oh. My. Word. We should have bought two. I had my hopes up to try a babka (I've never had one before and their rotating flavours always look so delicious!) but they were sold out; always a good sign. We had such a great experience here, we will definitely be back again to try more things!

I truly wish Dilly Dally had more locations. They're coffee and drinks are great; not the best in the city, but the service and super friendly staff more than makes up for it. They have a consistently fresh and updating menu for food items despite the small quarters, and you will honestly feel more comfortable here then a coffee shop you frequent daily.

The cutest cafe! They have their menu written on the side of the café, giving you ample time to figure out what you want to eat before ordering. With a large drink and food selection there'll be something for everyone! I had the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. Both were made to look beautiful and tasted great. The grilled cheese was a little too sweet for my taste, but I ended up still enjoying my meal. Also the flavoured ice lattes are to die for on a hot summer day. Make sure to find a spot on the patio to sit and eat, it makes the food taste that much better!

The servers were truly friendly and helpful. I ordered an avocado toast with an egg, but first the egg was forgotten, then the egg laden avocado was accidentally dropped on the floor. The first I knew was when a server brought a delicious muffin in compensation as I waited for my avocado egg toast. This blew my carbohydrate budget for two weeks!! But the women serving were cheerful and joyful! What a wonderful way to start off our day.

Do not go here if you need to use your laptop for work or studying as they are currently not allowing laptops in their cafe. I do not live near the cafe but wanted to try it out for a change of pace from working from home . I don't really understand the policy, but I just wish they would have informed me of this before I paid for my meal/beverage as I had to then leave and rush somewhere else in time for my meeting.

This place is awesome! Super cute locally owned cafe, with tons of food options. The sandwiches on display looked absolutely delicious, but I just wanted a snack so I had the cinnamon donut (soooo good), and a chai latte. The interior is a bit small but they do have a patio out back as well. The decorations inside were also really neat, and looked like some local artists had pieces for sale too.

This is my happy place. Brilliant coffee, a wide range of meticulously crafted sweet and savory foods (little bites or full meal, whatever you want). Always buzzing and happy and busy and yet never backed-up or over-crowded. Service is perfect, attentive, zippy, and with a smile. Bonus: buy a bag of Fog City coffee beans to take home. Better yet, buy five bags because you'll be returning for them anyway -- an amazing roast, you'll turn your home kitchen operation into a first rate coffee-house for those days you don't have time to Dilly Dally in person.

i always enjoy this cafe. The staff. food and atmosphere is totally enjoyable and always appreciated. Oh yes the coffee is tasty too. However, this evening I saw fruit flies on the big boy cinnamon buns. When I mentioned it to the staff, I strongly feel they did not take me serious. They were cleaning up as it was nearing closing time. They put the 3 remaining buns in a covered cake dish by the cash register to sell. Is it appropriate to sell pastry's that had fruit flues crawling over them? I consider this as a problem I recommend you to correct this problem Respectfully, Linton Worrall

Got a very burned (black) grilled cheese once, and an egg bagel that was soggy and falling apart another day. They were busy both times, and so quality seemed to suffer. I'm glad they put starbucks out of business but it wasn't worth the price you pay for it.

Good place. Great location. Love the coffee and the interior but it is a bit small in there and parking in the area is a bit difficult.
