We went there early morning and tbh I was really blown away by the ambiance. They have a very cozy setup and the historic building makes for a perfect cafe. Staffs were very friendly and welcoming. They have patios on the roof and side of the building makes for perfect place to sip coffee and relax. Btw coffee was great too.

A delightful little cafe with a broad selection of organic coffee blends, as well as a range of espressos and frozen drinks. It's right near the lake, but has the ambiance of a hip Paris café, with sweets, including cookies, squares, biscotti, tea biscuits and croissants. Unable to decide which coffee, the barista, kindly offered me samples of all the different blends on tap. I found I really liked Balzac's own blend, as well as the Farmer's. It was late in the day, so I opted for a decaf, which is dark roast. I prefer medium roast, but the decaf was fine, not too bitter. They use organic, free-trade, bird-friendly and many ethical products, too. If you want to take it home, you can buy bags of coffee and seasonal, special blends. Upstairs, there's a door to a side patio with tables, shaded by umbrellas. On the top floor, there's a modern, bright space, cafe tables for laptop working. Wall posters of the famous French playwright, Honoré de Balzac decorate the walls. It's an ode to Balzac's painstaking formula for making coffee, "The Pleasures and Pains of Coffee". At his namesake café, the baristas do it for you! This is a very community-minded cafe. They offered me bulletin board space to advertise my local yoga classes, which is an awesome way to support locals. Bravo Balzac's... je t'adore!

This is the perfect place to grab a coffee in Port Dalhousie. They have large open patio spaces, and an upstairs area with tables, desks, and power outlets. The WiFi works, and it's never too packed in the afternoon. I recommend if you want a place to grab a coffee and read a book quietly.

This is a cute little cafe right by Port Dalhousie . We had Coffee Canadien ,Carrot Cake and Butter Tart. The drink was made with care and tasted good Carrot Cake was soft and but the topping was too sweet seemed frozen food product. Butter Tart tasted fine. The ambience is great and it has upstairs patio and washroom . Thr girl who took our order was friendly. The also have a great collection of whole beans which they roast themselves . There is additional seating at the back and few chairs outside. The view is nothing special as it not facing East on Lock St but the adjacent st which has nothing .The ground level patio has pretty much no view at all. The stuff seems overpriced (for being frozen out of box) .The medium drunk alone costed little over $6 and dessert $5 (frozen) for the portion which made the total over $20 . They were also out of most of the baked goods (i guess the ones they bake themseleves) we wanted so we chose the ones left . Would like to try there coffee beans in future and probably grab a drink but not baked goods.

I have loved Balzac's cafes in other cities - NOTL, Kitchener, Toronto. When I found out they were opening a new shop in Port Dalhousie I was excited. And it's lived up to my high expectations. This is the best place to pop in for a treat while at the beach. The coffee and espresso is yummy and fresh. The cookies and treat bars are decadent and delicious. There are options for vegans and gluten-free eaters. You can enjoy your treat by a window seat on the main floor, in a meeting room style area upstairs, or outside in the back. Highly recommend this cafe, and wish there were more of this quality in St. Catharines. Oh and you have to try the Latte in a Cone! So good and fun.

I loved my visit to Balzac's in Port Dalhousie. The interior décor is tastefully quaint, the service is friendly, and the coffee is delicious. Also, any café that offers spacious upstairs seating and tables for getting work done, has my vote. Although, it was a good 40 minute drive for me to get there, I'd do it again and again for all if these reasons.

This is a charming coffee house that has an extensive offering of coffees and teas as well as baked goods. The atmosphere is relaxed and the servers are very friendly. There is additional seating in a room on the second floor. During the nice weather you can take your coffee to one of their two outdoor patios! I highly recommend Balzac's, Port Dalhousie.

Only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars is the parking. If you want to park for a long time or have a large vehicle (pickup or bigger) it will be very hard to park anywhere.

I'd give a 5 if there was better seating in the winter. Summer outdoor seating is quaint and ample, but the winner seating is very tight, with poor acoustics. The upstairs seating is very loud and because they have a very long group table it has either a cafeteria feel or encourages VERY loud large groups. There is a small room with glass windows that they house their supplies in, I think they could make this a lovely seating area The food is good, but limited. They often run out of croissants and scones. Lots of organic selection if you're into that! All in all, it's a cute place, I love the floors, and the staff is always pleasant.

Absolutely love Balzacs, and this location has to be one of my favourites!! The staff was incredibly nice when we entered, and they had great COVID protocols and signage. As always, their coffee is excellent (had the Atwood Blend for the first time!) And the upstairs patio was very pleasant, but the main patio was even better with their mural and garden.

When it's good, it's fantastic! Unfortunately there seems to be some inconsistencies across different baristas. Occasionally I end up with two inches of foam in a large latte, which ends up equating to the small size after the foam dissipates (see photo attached-- this was with me not even taking a sip of the drink). The flavor of the coffee and the chai tea latte also seems to change (watered down, strong, etc). I think it's worth checking out if your in the area, but all things considered, the prices should equate to more quality and consistency.

Love it here. every barista i've had knows how to pull an excellent shot of espresso. There's one woman in particular who pulls the best shots I've ever had. Wish I knew her name for this review. I'm consistently blown away by the quality. Everyone that works there is very friendly and they are quick even when it's busy. Tons of seating and the upstairs/ground level patios are a great place to relax and enjoy some local coffee. It's a 15 minute walk from my place so on a nice day it's a given that I'm going to walk down and enjoy some espresso. A++++++++

A very cute little cafe. It's perfect for a little meeting, casual get together, or to do homework. All the power outlets upstairs are fantastic!! It was clean and nicely done inside. Baristas were friendly. Seating outside and inside. It is not wheelchair accessible. (You have to walk up some steep stairs to get up to the seating area and washrooms)The coffee is good, they have dessert, I tried the carrot cake, you get a small piece for $4.70. Also it's not baked in store just the frozen boxed stuff. Overall experience was ok, no music playing inside for back ground noise we sat inside up stairs, it was echoing a bit. I think next time I'd like to sit outside on the upstairs patio instead weather permitting.

Poor customer service and they violate human rights. I was denied service because I have a mask Exemption. Lady at the front said she couldn’t help, it was “store policy”. They’re policy doesn’t abolish our charter rights and freedoms. What a shame!
