Rubbish service, mediocre decor, extremely slow food, but the quality of the eats at least redeems it from me hating it. If you're not a fan of kids, this isn't the diner for you - it's extraordinarily child-friendly.

Sausages were pretty burnt and the hash browns were a bit undercooked. Typically a burnt sausage wouldn’t lead to me leaving a review, but the two tables near me that had food come out while I was there sent their food back because it was burnt (sausages and pancakes, I believe) Service was lovely and my eggs were perfect.

The best place to go for breakfast in Courtney! The staff is superb, and very friendly. The portions are HUGE and delicious! Plus, they're always very time effective. Would recommend if you're flying solo or with a large group.

Great place, just needs about ten times the space cause it's so busy, that if you want a lapdance and the smell of the person that is basically sitting on your laps bacon grease to fill your pallette with the feeling of being too close to your neighbors then this is the place for you. I personally think that they need parking and a bigger better location something with its own parking lot not shared with three or four other downtown locations and zero to none street parking. For a breakfast joint that is established and has a repeat customer base and a buffet I think they could take over another location or build one and not be so small .... 2019 people.

Great basic breakfast. I have allergies (dairy and soy) our server was very friendly and did her best to accommodate, I couldn't have toast but the eggs and bacon were delicious. She also offered me fruit which I declined. Strong coffee was flowing and we weren't rushed out of our table which was nice for our visit

Open at 6 in the morning, earns the one and only star. ok...the potatoes are greasy and gross, deluxe potatoes are worse. The coffee is like mud sludge, with a hint of poop, and my vegi wrap was greased up eggs with onions and peppers. Two good things are I didn’t get ill and the server is lovely.

First time here and the food and service were by far the best even though it was understaffed and there was a line up to get in. So good! I'm glad I found it and will definitely come back when I'm back in Courtney. Yum!

I'm giving them a 2 star because the food was at least cooked. They don't follow the covid guidelines for the covid passport which is important to me, but I figured I'd give them a chance. The food really wasn't that great, I got the Mexican Benny and it was just meh. Definitely could have made something better at home. The side of potatoes and onions were also meh. The onions were cooked well, but the potatoes were barely cooked at all. The coffee was probably the best part about the experience, it just tastes like your standard run of the mill drip coffee. The service was kind, I'm mainly focusing on quality of food and covid protocols.

Fantastic service and delicious food. We took full advantage of their all-day breakfast, after the call of nature forced our group into the closest restaurant we could find. Fortunately for us, they had delicious breakfast options for the vegetarian and the celiac in our group...as well as excellent options for the non-dietary-challenged. Our group tried an omelette, a club wrap, eggs Benedict and a skillet, and nobody was interested in sharing their plates...it was all too good! Portions were generous, coffee was bottomless, and smiles and friendly banter were the special of the day. Top marks for the Mrs. Early and Mr. Bird.

I came here for breakfast and was not dissappointed! The breakfast menu is large with many choices available for different diets. The breakfast I ordered was very tasty and filling and the prices were fair. The atmosphere was nice and relaxing, it felt like a mom & pop diner which made us feel at home. The staff was very kind made us feel comfortable and welcomed. I would definately love to come back here!

Early Bird Cafe has always been my favorite place for a family style brunch on weekends. Its a relaxed place where they give you a warm welcome, serve your food, fresh and hot, checking back after you have a few bites if the food they have was what we expected and so on. Recommend this place for home style breakfast to anyone!

This is a pretty standard place where you can just get grub, get it early, and get full. I don't think there's a place in town open as early, so it sort of wins on the pigeonhole principle. There was a wall full of kids drawings of birds and I was sitting next to what I believe was an owl making some reference to "what came first the owl or the egg." The kid that drew it, Tiffany, had the owl driving a car, which I liked.

My first visit to the Early Bird Cafe and really enjoyed. It was busy but we were seated immediately. Service was friendly and prompt. We had the veggie egg wrap and it arrived hot and was really good. The wrap came with a side of potatoes that had onion in them and were excellent. Definitely would go back. Highly recommend.

It was interesting, because all the foods that required any skill were pretty well done, but some of the less technical dishes were neither particularly hot or flavourful. I had sat in the outdoor seating area, as the cafe was packed inside, and for good reason! Even though they seemed very busy, I was warmly greeted by a young waitress, whom promptly rushed me out coffee and a glass of water to start my day. I ordered the eggs Benedict with diced potatoes, which arrived quickly, to my surprise (given the amount of customers). They were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. Overall, I experienced fantastic service, with a friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Staff are friendly and inviting, atmosphere is cozy and the price is always right. if you're looking for a place to catch up with friends or just need something to eat early bird cafe is my first suggestion to anyone in town

The food, while isn't bad, isn't great either. It is very fairly priced though so you do get what you pay for. The wait staff is a mixed bag. I've been there several times, when my usual place is closed, or too full, and they normally aren't very attentive to our needs. They do seem to look after the regulars they know by name very well but for people like us we sort of get forgotten about. I routinely have to ask for refills on my drinks and go up and get things I've asked for when they are at our table, like tabasco sauce and ketchup, and they don't really come check to see how are meal is. The greeter who seats you is very friendly and is probably the highlight of the staff. Overall it's an ok place to eat but it really doesn't stand out in any way. It could definitely be renovated, nearly every seat has duct tape patches on it. If you want a cheap quick meal it's a good place to go, if you'd like great food and a pleasant experience I'd suggest somewhere else.

Awesome price for a great meal. 2 kids and 2 adults was under $35 with a generous tip. Good service, the food was basic but tasty, and the decor is cute. They've made an obsessively diverse collection of bird-themed stuff. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in Courtenay.
