I go here a decent amount. I really like their coffee and Tuesday's are donut days! A different donut everu week! One thing I reeeeaaaaaaalllllyyy don't like is how the Chef believes in changing the menu about every 4-6 months.... That's to much change, I dont care if some of your menu items are seasonal I want them year round ahahh. Aside from that though the food is quite good if you like southern food and lots of smoked meat. ** It's something simple but I looove the fries here!! (Fries matter people!! The quality of fries says a lot about a place)
This place is a complete gem. Everything is made in house with pride. Its hard to find a resturaunt like this and Im certain if it were in a busier location it would have a line up out the door. Delicious and incredible. Ill be going back for sure.
Great food, always very friendly staff, easily one of the best breakfast places in town, will update after a lunch or dinner here.
Ordered takeout, a beef dip and a cheeseburger. Have seen better looking food turned out by McDonald's. Though it was entirely limp and sweaty as a New Delhi rickshaw pilot on a 3 minute break, the chow was nicely seasoned, but maybe trying too hard to be from a restaurant with a less colorful past. I'll update once I try it fresh and in-store.
Had a lovely lunch. Staff were wonderful!
Great food and the people who have taken over the cafe are doing a wonderful job!
My family and I are not usually ones to complain. We went in as a group of 7 as we had an aunt visiting from out of province. Didn’t mind the wait to be seated as we were a large party, but were a little peeved that it took over 15 minutes to get drinks ordered, but whatever. They had one server working and she looked busy. The main issue was that when we got our food, my brother and I commented that the ketchup was weird, they must make it themselves with a weird ingredient, etc. It wasn’t until the very end of the meal that I figured it out- it tasted like it was made with alcohol to which my mom mentioned that... It was probably fermenting. Lo and behold, we tried ketchup from the other side of the table... perfectly normal. I almost threw up! My brother and I had eaten lots of this fermenting ketchup! My mom politely pulled the waitress aside to tell her, not making a scene. The waitress said that it wasn’t her fault, they do clean them every week, she’s not usually serving, it’s the server’s faults for not checking, etc... Taking the blame off of herself entirely. No compensation, paid the full price of the bill (Over $120...) and still tipped but. Man. I work in a restaurant and if anything like that happened I’d at LEAST offer a dessert on the house! I mean come on, the ketchup was basically rotting for Pete’s sake. Anyways, my family and I will not be coming back, and I recommend all of you check restaurants that have ketchups in their own kinds of bottles so you don’t make the same mistake. Also, the food wasn’t bad per se, but just average. Definitely not worth it ever again.
Have just about anything you could want and your inner foodie desires. ????❤️ Yum haha
We had a great lunch experience here. They were very friendly and the cafe has an old fashioned atmosphere. The food was fantastic. We are excited to go back .
Food was delicious but had to be some of the worst service I have ever endured.
Grill was nice !!!
a cozy cafe with home made food for a reasonable price
Good food and service. Like stepping back in time!
Fantastic wing Wednesday!
The food here is so good I am happy I live across town or I would be here every day! Loving the new menu with southern flair. The crab cakes are fabulous and so is the fried chicken. The Monte Cristo sandwich is also a fave of mine. The chef is always baking something fresh and we tried the strawberry shortcake on Saturday and it was amazing!
Going tomorrow. Looks good .we need more advertising about this place
Amazing menu and continuously delicious creations from Chef Darcy. Can't recommend the brisket enough!
Awesome and real food!
My family and I just enjoyed a delicious Mother’s Day brunch today. There was an amazing variety of freshly prepared dishes.
Lovely atmosphere, great food and wonderful staff!
Heard a lot of buzz about this place so have it a try for labour day breakfast. Pleased that it wasn't very busy but it took a bit longer than expected for our food to come. And when you have a sassy 2 year old, that becomes an issue. Food was good, but a bit bland in my opinion. Portions and prices good but would have appreciated a coffee refill, especially being a parent of said sassy 2 year old ???? I'd return again but wasn't the best breakfast I've ever had.
Under new management (again) as of December and things are back to good food and great prices. Well worth the visit.
Great old fashioned place with good food and service! The ingredients are good quality and the environment is clean! The brunch was really good and the price was on par! We will definitely return
My goodness, so busy in here on an early Sunday afternoon. Such friendly service. We were just coming to check the place out, try a couple appy like things. Best poutine YUMMY the gravy and cheese curds mesh together lovely. The deep fried pickles.. OHMYGOODNESS! Homemade ranch so GOOD .. Hubby said the tomato aioli was yummy. Definitely will come back here. Maybe try the BBQ pork and Pancakes. (Sounded delicious) Thank you so much!
Always a great place to stay and eat. Very reasonable prices and a very friendly and helpful staff.
In on a quiet Wednesday afternoon, had a Caesar with grilled chicken. Service was quick, everything looked clean and the Caesar was pretty typical Fraser Valley fare. I will be back. (Some reviews have commented on the cafe being "old and smelly". As someone who is old and smelly, I didn't notice any bad odors.)
Best breakfast in town You have to try this place.
Pretty good classic cafe in downtown Chilliwack. Reasonable menu at inexpensive prices. Good parking in the rear with three hours of free parking.
Must say I was thoroughly disappointed with The Royal Hotel Cafe yesterday. I brought some out of town guests for lunch. The sign said Please Wait to be Seated, so we waited. When it was our turn, we were told to just seat ourselves. There was 5 of us, the booths aren't being enough, so we chose a table with a chair on the end by a window. A mom with 2 small kids came in after us, an older couple came in after us, and another few people after that. We waited 17 minutes, no drink order taken, no drinks were served while we waited, not even an acknowledgement that we (or to anyone else) were there. The mom with 2 children got up and left. Finally, we were given ripped up menus, my dad asked for silverware. Still no drink orders taken. Then we noticed the older couple that came in well after us, received some food. (There's one server on the floor, and one behind the counter) Hmmmmm....ok....give it a couple more minutes. Still no drink order taken, no food order taken, no one said a word to us. There was one table of 6 just getting their order taken, they were just waiting before us and were seated when we arrived. It was a unanimous decision for us to leave. I can't remember the last time I've ever left an establishment for this reason. I must say, I was hoping to share in the service and Food of what I thought was good, and after this experience most likely will never go back. As my husband said, when we were leaving "no service, no money", the lady at the counter just shrugged her shoulders. After having 2 families walk out of the establishment, one would think they would care? Guess not.
Nice cafe, good service. Now if they'd just can the hip-hop and country music and put on something more in keeping with the 30's, 40's vibe of the place, it would be awesome. Benny Goodman maybe? Some Electro-Swing perhaps?
WOW! These are amazing, now I get what all the fuss was about. You have to be there at opening, they sell out fast!
Wonderful to discover part of Chilliwack history.
This was so delicious!
Would not recommend to anyone.
Really pleased with the food, and the waitress was funny and kind
Great service and good breakfast. Thank you
**Please see addendum below** May 20th, 2019 - Showed up to the Royal Café and waited to be seated. The room was quiet (no music playing over the speakers) and the atmosphere was less than welcoming. We were intending on having brunch but overheard one of the customers complaining of waiting, at that point, over an hour for their breakfast. There was one server present, and she was not entirely hospitable. It was disappointing to say the least, and we opted to leave after having a small cup of coffee (which came to $3.25 each. More than the price of a medium Starbucks coffee I might add). Although we would love to support local businesses, we were disheartened with our experience and will be hesitant to return in the future. ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ADDENDUM: June 22nd, 2019 - The Royal café reached out to me to apologize for our bad experience. They offered us a free brunch and we were hopeful for a better outcome the second time around To their credit we had a completely different experience the second time around! The waitress was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and the food was tasty and delivered in a timely fashion. Needless to say, I think that our past experience was not the norm at the Royal café and if the atmosphere is anything like it was today for us, we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good breakfast joint!
Had a very good breakfast here!!
Under new ownership. Very limited and boring menu with exorbitant pricing. Very disappointing.
Fast service and happy with the quality of food
Great food and friendly staff. Love the fried pickles.
Food is good, limited choice on the senior menu. Prices include coffee or tea portions quite small.
Donuts are awesome
Unfortunately gone downhill over the last year. Consistent long waits for food and always given the same excuse of someone new and all alone in the kitchen. A place this busy should have more than one cook. Hoping they can find and keep more staff!
This is a great place to stop and eat at. It is situated in an historic 20th century hotel, which adds to your eating experience. The food and staff are really good, the menu has a good selection to choose from.
Stopped by for a nice brunch on our way from Vancouver to Naramata. Had high hopes due to past reviews but were left incredibly disappointed. The restaurant was less than a quarter full when we arrived. About 3 or 4 tables were occupied. We stood waiting to be seated for almost 10 mins before the waitress acknowledged us and told us to sit wherever we wanted. We waited for an hour before our food was delivered...the hash browns were cold and stale, along with the hollandaise for the egg Benedict’s. The biscuits served for the same dish were tiny, and the salmon on top did not taste fresh. We had to wave down the waitress to refill coffee and hot water for tea and she never came around to do a quality check on the food. We figured since the food took so long, it would be hot and fresh! We were let down. Would be understandable had the restaurant been full but it was a really quiet morning. We left disappointed. Would unfortunately not recommend.
Amazing food. Great portions and reasonable prices. Guy fierri would be impressed!
Always enjoy the food ordered here.
Great service and waffles!
Absolutely love this place. The food is delicious and the servers are great. Love the old school vibe and the real sweet tea. Highly recommend! Oh and my kids love the kids menu... kids under 3 eat free which I think they lose money on my kids!
New owner/s and menu to a 100 year old hotel cafe, unfortunately leads this review to a disappointment. The first meal was breakfast for two which was waffle chicken with a pork belly maple syrup this I can say was good the second breakfast was a pulled pork pancake stack, the pancakes were huge in size but the pulled pork was bland and without seasoning just pulled apart meat so not appetizing, my original meal was to be a schnitzel benny but was informed that they had no schnitzel or smoked meat for the day, so for a start 50/50 one good one bad. However upon trying the dinner fare the next day I can only conclude this place has yet to figure out consistency in meal prep, the meal ordered for myself and two others was Mac and cheese with smoked meat and was informed that the Montreal smoke meat was again unavailable so sub in pulled pork, the cheese sauce was grainy as the cheese mix was not properly blended, the second dish was a scrambled egg breakfast that was not scrambled but a omelette, not sure how that was mistakenly put together ( again consistency) and the third was the southern fried chicken which on the menu lists three breaded chicken breasts but was told by the wait staff that it was by weight and received two chicken rather the the advertised listed three and which were medium to small in size, when asking for the manager was told he was busy and thus he remained unavailable in the back till our leaving, must point out at time of dining 4:20pm the restaurant was empty and observed most employees wandering lost and in search of thing to do. With sadness a place that shows possibilities is to be recommended as a avoidance. This is a place I cannot recommend but may revisit in time to reacess in 4-6 months.
Went for breakfast this morning and had an amazing Eggs Benny. Everything was perfect from the ham to the biscuit to the hollandaise sauce. We will for sure be back. Found the atmosphere vintage but warm and cozy. Downtown Chilliwack is really busy from last time we were here. Glad to see a small business so busy busy busy.
Great people in an historic hotel. The food and beverages at the coffee shop and adjacent pub are very good. The staff is friendly and the city is charming. While the hotel doesn't have the amenities of a modern facility, it does have atmosphere and warmth often lacking in chain hotels.
Eat there once a week consistent have a few different things that are not usually another restaurants like Beignt Louisiana mini Donuts LOL
Great food.
Excellent place to go for great food, a lively atmosphere, and a reasonably priced meal. They don't take reservations and we had a show to go to afterwards, so we decided to sit at the counter(we were offered a table during our meal but were comfortable so we stayed there). We had a couple of appetizers: cheese filled dates & a crispy croquette, french onion soup, and tuna with greens.
Tokyo Grill was delicious. Great food and service.
One of my favorites. Awesome food and atmosphere. Always great service!
Great food! Must try the burger!! ????
The cafe has a funny smell to it had breakfast there was pricy an I got the the runs within a view hours of eating there should know when AI went there I was the only person in the whole place the staff was very nice
We have been here a couple of times now. I am so impressed with how fresh everything is. The servers are very friendly and helpful with suggestions of new things to try. I have tried the crab cakes and they are SO good. The fried kale they are served on is a treat for sure and very yummy. I have also tried the fried chicken and this is a must eat as far as I am concerned. Crispy and not greasy at all - best fried chicken in this town and I am never going anywhere else when the craving strikes! Highly recommend trying this place out if you are downtown Chilliwack. The location is not ideal for people who live in Sardis but it is worth the drive for sure!
Cheers
Services were really nice ,,coffee was great ,,my friend n I had a great dinner We really enjoyed our first date cause we were close to a skate park n after our dinner I went skateboarding for the first time in 38 yrs ,,she was fantastic compared to me ,thankyou ROYAL for this start to a fun n memorable time
Great food, great service
Royal Café is an excellent place to eat. We love having a wonderful breakfast here with the heritage furnishings and friendly staff. The food is always fantastic too !...You've got to try the Royal Café....It's a wonderful experience !I asked her if the salmon on the Benny was the thin shaved smoked kind or regular salmon and she assured me it was the thin sliced kind.
Was in for breakfast last week and it was delicious! The hotel has an old charm which is very inviting. Had the German pancake and my wife had the Eggs Benny. Highly recommend this place to everyone!
Great breakfast and cheese curds!!
It's a good little breakfast joint I really enjoyed the bowls
Always great. Hand made meals, locally grown veggies, meats, fruits! Great specials, too. Very efficient, friendly staff. Chef comes out and chats with the customers! Highly recommended!
Went in for lunch with my 3 yr old twins. Building is old and smelly but it's also neat and lots of character. Was greated warmly and received our drinks/took orders quickly. Ordered the kids chicken strip and the smoked salmon benny for myself. Kid's chicken was raw in the middle so I sent it back. They apologized and brought a new plate of chicken strips and fries as soon as possible. Meanwhile...try explaining to two 3 yr olds that the chicken strips are coming back. My smoked salmon benny was OK. The salmon tasted like canned salmon. The new chick strips were good and hot. I probably won't go back.
Just Had there Homemade Mac n Cheese with pulled pork. and it was the best thing ive ever tasted!! Definatly will be back for more!
UPDATE: I emailed management as requested below and provided details of my experience. It was investigated immediately as promised, and they quickly identified the issue that led to my experience. I believe that was addressed, and I was personally invited back to give them a second chance. I can say with confidence at this point that in spite of my experience, I was seriously impressed by the speed with which they responded, the empathy and concern expressed by management, as well as their committment to finding the issue, taking action to address it, and efforts to make it right with me as a customer. I'll definitely give them a second chance... As stated below, the issue had nothing to do with the quality of the food. I'm adjusting my rating at this point to reflect management's exceptional efforts to address this, and look forward to seeing the difference on my next visit. Thanks! ---------- Walked in at 9:55 for breakfast, ordered an omelette. Waited until 10:40 before finally walking out as my beverage had gone cold and there was no still no sign or indication my order was coming, or had even been started for that matter. Unfortunate as the food is usually pretty good. My time is valuable and I was on a schedule, not sure I'll take the chance getting stuck waiting in there again. I work in the area, alternate choices are abundant. Walked 5 minutes down the street to a competitor, ordered breakfast, had it in front of me in under 10 minutes. If they'd at least given me an ETA on my order, if it wasn't going to be much longer, and maybe offered a discount to compensate for my lost time, I might have stayed.
Iconic piece of Chilliwack's downtown, I believe it's been there since 1908, the customer service and food is 4 star hands down, but the building could use some reno's; also parking is a nightmare, only a hand full of spots reserved for guests and not to mention the outdoor residents.
Good food with some unique flavors and creativity that can be lacking in some chain restaurant Chilliwack spots. Service can be slow, but if you're in no rush its worth the wander in.
Was keen on visiting here since reading article in local newspaper. Service was slow but only one server working. Wasn’t too concerned as she was very attentive to each seated customer and very interactive regarding the menu and answering questions. Prices too steep for local area in my opinion. 18.00 for hashed potatoes and beef, this seemed a bit much. My husband had grilled cheese and small tomato soup. However, order was not what was ordered, soup was cold and fried egg looked like it sat under a broiler. Server was apologetic and did take pop off bill. ( we did not ask) but a nice touch. Unfortunately, prices too high, quality is lacking. We will not be returning.
The staff is always so friendly and the food in the cafe is really good.
Awesome food and service. The corn chowder is to die for!
Delicious
Enjoyed the company as usual...food was tasty..portions was just right...waitress pleasant....price reasonable...
