This was my first time at this bakery. I visited based on the 4.6 star review online. I was extremely disappointed. Here is my opinion and experience. I bought the pan butter tart and a dozen dozen doughnuts, my friend bought cinnamon bread and assortment of individual pastries/cakes.
Customer service: Very friendly, good service. This is why I gave it any starts at all.
Price: fair bakery pricing if it was tastey.
Quality and taste:
Doughnuts were stale. Icing way too sweet on it to balance the stale floury doughnut. They were basically the same doughnut dressed differently with cookie crumble, coconut, whipping cream or sprinkles.
The chocolate doughnut that was recommended by another Local guide who rated it very good, in my opinion was not chocolatey at all and again tasted stale and was nothing extra ordinary.
The cinnamon bread was dry, sugaring on the top was super sweet. Not balanced with the bread, if it was less sweet it would complement the flour bread taste because it is not meant to be a dessert.
The butter tart pan was overly sweet. It was basically drinking very very sweet sugar syrup mixed with corn syrup. I understand butter tarts are supposed to be sweet, however, have tasted too many butter tarts to let this even pass as edible. You can barely eat this, its so sweet. There is little or no crust on it and that is what is lacking, not balanced with that salty crust of the butter tart.
The assortment of desserts that we tried were the raspberry coconut bar, brownie and mini cake with whipped topping. All were not tasty in my opinion.
Overall:
- My friend and I regret spending any monies at this bakery. I brought these to my workplace Christmas brunch and no one could eat the butter tart pan because of the level of sweetness. Wish I just stopped at Tm Hortons and picked up doughnuts there, it would have been cheaper and no-fail tastier at least be fresh! Would not go back, would not recommend for sweet treats or bakery desserts.
