This Coffee Shop belongs to the category of Coffee shop.
This place is awesome! The owners and staff are both very knowledgeable and passionate about coffee varieties and brewing techniques. Try the pour over coffee!
Service wasn't great but it wasn't awful either. Food and drink were pretty good. Free wifi and a few outlets makes it a half decent place to work on a laptop. Nice music and atmosphere with plenty of succulents and tasteful jazz. Chairs aren't super comfortable but there are plenty of spaces to sit from a bar at the window to a long table good for meetings. Might go here again, but probably for a coffee with a friend instead.
Great coffee. Good loyalty program.
Great atmosphere and staff, delicious coffee and tea options, and amazing pasty selection!
FREAKING SWEET
Non descript from the outside, but surprisingly nice on the inside. Spacious and bright interior, with tasteful study room like decor. Not too many tables though.
Fresh but very mild tasting coffee, nice place to hangout, new staff isn't too friendly
Absolutely delightful place - a haven of excellent quality and friendly staff in the midst of non-stop malls!
Nice little coffee joint in the area. Pastries and coffee is pretty decent too.
This is in my opinion the best coffee shop/roaster in the neighborhood. I can tell that the owner puts a lot of effort into keeping the place tidy and I really enjoyed the overall experience -> me likey. Their drinks are great. You have the usual espresso and brewed coffee and in addition they also offer tea and the more complex pour over/siphon coffee. If you're a coffee lover I'd recommend trying their siphon coffee for a cleaner, fuller, and more flavorful taste. That's exactly what I ordered and I'll say again -> me likey :) I'll come again, Caritas 9. Next time I hope the cold brews will be ready.
What a disappointment.
Finally a decent cappucino in Southeast Burnaby- Its one of those places you want to publicly review and support because you hope it stays in business and they do well for many years to come. Not a lot of food choices but it's really about the great coffee and a bright relaxed interior.
Cosy, cute place with really good cappuccinos. Friendly baristas and atmosphere. One of my favourites.
Great coffee, cozy decor. My fav coffee house in Metrotown-Edmonds area.
Nice place. simple with good lighting. didn't really have the coffee though
Love that Burnaby finally got it's own coffee roaster!
Very nice cafe with light music and a little library and board games
Nice little place.. great coffee! Love the little touch of greenery!
Super cute and relaxing place to study or work on your laptop. The coffee and food items are all made with love.
Wonderful Americano and delightful cranberry chocolate brownie!
Nice spot and great espresso. Cool coffee shop in middle of nothing to cool.
Come to this nice coffee place for an crossover event with efnbe bakehouse. Tried their Piccolo coffee, it was quiet strong for my taste, but it was good. I don't see this kind of drinks anywhere else.
Great coffee shop. Their pourovers really shine and they come with delicious almond cookies they make in the store! I've been to all the coffee shops in the area in search of a good place to work during the day and I keep coming back here. Keep up the good work guys!
One of the smoothest Americanos I've ever had. Will be returning. Would be awesome if they had sugar free flavoured syrups.
really create cafeterias!! Testy coffee and lots of choices. I live nearby and go there almost everyday
Cute spot. Needs better/competitive prices
They prepared a great latte, nice and smooth. Great Crema.
Cozy place to get a cup of great pour over or espresso. We also buy freshly roasted beans there for our home. The prices are reasonable and the staff really friendly. Highly recommend it!
Very calm and quaint coffee shop that supports faire trade and hand crafted food and beverage. Bonus that they sell Kombucha! Proper hand-brewes coffee bar a plus,
Great staff, great coffee, great vibe.
Not as good as the previous owner. Probably a work in progress so it's ok to have some learning curve. I've been there a few times now and I think they're slowly improving. The cappuccino is the foamy style, not with latte art. The taste is better than Starbucks but not on par with other 3rd wave coffee shops. Good that they have a choice of espresso beans so you can go for a medium roast (which is the only reason I go there). Their baristas are somewhat friendly but I don't feel they're coffee enthusiasts themselves. They seem to know just as much about coffee as a Starbucks barista. The worst part however is that their washroom is locked, and there's no key, and you have to talk to a barista to open the door for you, every, single, time. Not only is that an inconvenience, it also doesn't feel super hygienic.
Really nice decor and had a really great time there on board game night.
The best spot in our area. They put so much love into their drinks and their cheesecake bars are the best!
Updated Review: February 25, 2020 I found out that they are under new ownership since my last review so my review below is about the previous ownership. I haven't had a chance to try out their coffee under the new owner. ---- When I go to the UPS Edmonds store nearby to pick up a package, it's my excuse to visit Caritas 9. I usually order a mocha (for my husband) and a London Fog for myself, and they are consistently good every time. I actually prefer their drink to Starbucks. Their cookies with almond slices are also delicious, and cheaper than most places that sell Japanese type of goodies. There's also parking in the back in case you are finding a hard time finding parking up front.
Good coffee and a great atmosphere. The only drawback is that they only serve one size of coffee
Good little coffee place, not too busy when I went.
Friendly people, good drinks, pleasantly unobtrusive piano music - nice shop!
Excellent coffee! Friendly staff, beautiful space. What's not to like?
Love this place! Great place to do work, hang out with friends, and more! Good coffee too! Love their pour over!
Beautiful hipster space in the Edmonds area, which is a huge surprise. Found the service to be friendly with a genuine effort to get to know customers. They serve siphon and Chemex (with Hario v60 upon request) and espresso based drinks. Owners are friends who met at church and came together with a business idea. You'll see their little roaster displayed in their cafe. Several profiles carried here and that impressed us, since they are so small a business. Loved the Matcha latte - superb quality and nice latte heart. They carry asian-style pastries which were better than average. Highly recommend.
Amazing coffee and excellent customer service!
Taste of the coffee was good, but I do prefer a thicker mouth feel to the coffee. Places like 49th parallel and Revolver offer that. The taste was good though. Had the light Ethiopian blend.
excellent coffee, just wish it was a little bigger!
Very nice decoration and high quality coffee. This place sometimes difficult to park on the street. They do have lots of free rear parking. Need to go around at the corner. Only open in the day time.
Lovely little cafe that roasts their own beans. The cappuccino was a little big, so maybe it's not perfect for the purists, but 95% of people won't even notice. Milk texture was perfect and espresso has a nice balance. Their breakfast croissant was good as well and baked in-house.
Coffee is good and building is brand new and very pretty inside.
Expensive but amazing coffee
Great coffee, friendly staff and a nice big room. They roast the beans themselves. Asked for a cortado and even though it wasn't on the menu made it perfect and were very keen on knowing exactly how to make it.
Great coffee, great ambient and friendly staff!
Friendly and quality coffee for a good price! If you're in the neighborhood, stop by. The ambience pairs nicely with a cup of good coffee. You'll have your standard drip to pourovers and more. I had the Kenya AA pourover this time. It's smooth and has a great after taste - sweet and nutty. They provide a biscuit to cleanse your palette too! The downside is parking. If you see a spot available on the street (even if it's slightly farther away), snatch it! The other downside is that it closes at 4pm (previously, it was 6pm) because the owner's wife recently gave birth. Other than that, a nice and refreshing place in the area.
Had a great chai soy latte there. The soy milk was heated to a proper temperature, but the drink could use a bit more chai. Friendly passionate staff. Prices were very reasonable. The space is lovely with tons of natural light.
Tasty Panama pour over. Peaceful study space with high ceilings. The lemon tart was okay. But big windows let in fair amounts of sunlight. And the aesthetic is cute and classy, but not overly try hard hipster.
A nice little place but the experience left a lot to improve. Opening a bit late at 10:00am and all lights were off until the doors opened. It made it feel abandoned. A few people waiting so that was a good sign. Great decor, simple and clean. Very westcoast feel. No syrups but that's more and more expected. Handed me vanilla and container was completely sticky, had to ask for cream and when poured it had turned. They were extremely apologetic and immediately replaced my americano and delivered it to my table in the Dairyland container. Overall I was disappointed by this first experience but the coffee was good, better than I was expecting. Website had mobile menu issues as well. They roast onsite and you can see them do this which is interesting. Everything was good but the errors made it average at best this time around. The staff working were polite and attentive but they were a bit meek and mild and need a bit more decisive edge when mistakes happen. They were young and family members so they responded more like they were embarrassed rather than anything. A bit more confidence in the face of adversity would go a long way. I'll come back another time and I encourage you to give them a chance. The coffee was great! Only other criticism is the mugs; they felt cheap compared to the ambiance and decor. I have 3 stars but it would have been a solid 4 without the little issues.
Great freshly in house roasted Ethiopian coffee, and an awesome vibe to spend some time working, studying or reading.
Great coffee, great staff, nice environment. Try the new Piccolo coffee
It tastes good and it's kind, but close the door early~~~~
Latte was delicious, roomy but still with a cozy feel, and WiFi is available!
Very nice and relaxing place for coffee. Croissant was served very warm and fresh! Love it!
Very smooth, flavorful coffee. I got a cappuccino and it was really good. Nice atmosphere as well, plants are well cared for and the seating is nice.
A lovely little spot to grab a warm drink and a snack.
Nice cozy place, serves very good espresso.
Disappointing. I was here a couple of years ago and loved the coffee but today neither the pour over (Brazil) or the cortado had any flavour. Bland. Too bad.
Great little coffee shop.
Cute. Friendly staff. Good for work and reading. Was quiet when I was there.
What fantastic coffee! Their cappuccino was perfect - so so delicious.
Although the coffee is good. The wait time to get ANYTHING is pretty unacceptable. I've been here a hand full of times. And waiting 15 mins for an Americano and a croissant is not cool. Atmosphere is cool though quite and peaceful. Also they arent consistently stocked with regular food items or with milk alternatives. So I won't go back anytime soon.
Caritas was just around the corner where I was having tires put on my car. The place is quite nice, bright and inviting. The service was prompt, courteous and efficient. I ordered a latte and fresh croissant. Both were excellent. A nice change from Starbucks... I will go there again if in the neighborhood.
Excellent sandwich and American. Such an open and relaxing space to come for a lunch break. I hope to see some soup or salads added to have as a side for the sandwiches to have a bit more. Great job!
Burnaby is growing to become a destination for coffee. First Fondway near Metrotown, now Caritas 9 on Edmonds. It is a industrial inspired cafe that does small batch roasts in house. The service is kind, laid back, and friendly which is reflected in the atmosphere and decor. If you're looking for a great place to get some work done, I'd recommend checking out Caritas 9!
Good coffee
Very nice staff and excellent food
Friendly
great coffee in a quiet location!
A nice place to hang out and talk
The coffee is exceptionally well roasted and brewed. The range of edibles is tasty and diverse. The space is open and welcoming. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable. All in all, worth going and returning often.
Nice little coffee spot. Looking for a new place for a good cup of coffee. Stop by. Nice folks. Freshly brewed coffee from fresh roasted beans... Enjoy..
Best place in Edmonds to get a coffee, or beans!
Good coffee. Good service, and relaxed atmosphere. And they sell the fresh roasted coffee beans. (It's 10% off if you reserved.)
Not a lot of choice in terms of coffee flavours or food, but what's here is quite good. The staff is friendly.
Nice people , good coffee and clean.
Very friendly staff, food was great, drinks were sublime, very aesthetically pleasing interior, and well-chosen music taste. 10/10 would come back again
Characteristic independent coffee shop. Good place to meet up.
Nice, cozy little coffee shop. Good place to chat with friends!
Nice, quiet, pleasant staff, and decent coffee. Food service a little slow for a simple sandwich. Food was tasty and fresh. Very neat setup, as you could watch the roaster as he processes the beans.
Good coffee, friendly staff, excellent service!
Excellent pour over! Butter croissant however had a slight freezer burn taste. Nice place though, would come back if in the area.
Great coffees and wonderful staff. Drink prices very reasonable.
This place is quite a cozy cafe. For a new place, the ambient is very comfortable and the music is subtly hype. The staff are nice too. They seem to be very friendly. The menu is not the cheapest, but again they aren't industrially processed like fast food joints. They even have drip coffee and pour over coffee with a daily "coffee of the day" special. Caritas is a nice place to study or get work done. You won't get kicked out even if you stayed half the day.
(Translated) The coffee is good. Recommend. (Original) Кофе хороший. Рекомендую.
I have visited this cafe for 3 times, as I am diversity seeker, I order different things each time. I can say Matcha latte was great. Espresso, Pour over and Americano, all were quite good. Muffins were ok, their biscuit cookie (specially green tea flavor) are great options if you wanna have a light snack with your coffee. Atmosphere/vibe is calm and cool. It is a clean place and staffs are polite and well-behaved. One of them have a good knowledge about coffee & its verities. I always had a good time there.
I'm so pleased that an independent coffee shop has opened up near Edmonds. The space itself is large, with sufficient seating and a long table good for working on. The Americano I had was actually quite good: on the sweeter side and pretty low acid. They play classical music, but the interior is quite live and so all the bustley noises are amplified and I needed ear plugs to really focus. That said, it's a vast improvement over the coffee offerings previously in the neighbourhood. I'm sure I'll be back often. Edit: I'm back again after an unavoidably long absence and if anything they've only improved. I just love how clean and quiet it is in here--and how they still play instrumental music! Their prices are super reasonable, too. Only one size of latte but it's about 12oz for $3.75. They have delicious little biscuits that sell for $2.50, muffins for $1.95, and croissants for $3.50. On a student budget, it makes this an obvious place to make a frequent haunt.
One of the the best mocha and lattes in town. This place is a hidden gem. Their barista is remarkably good at crafting perfection, mocha tastes like chocolate silk with coffee.
Best Moka, Good muffins. Good: Moka Service All muffins What is special? Their Moka is never hot just a right temperature. Bad: NOTHING!!!
Probably nicest in Burnaby
The relaxed ambiance of Caritas 9 is exactly what you need. If you need a nice quiet afternoon to relax, work, or even just enjoy a cup of coffee; this is the place to go. Caritas is a spacious coffee joint with a good selection of soft music. The sizes of the coffee are mostly one size and sometimes too small. They have quite a nice but limited selection. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. It is a very clean place. I just wish it was open for longer hours. My husband and I enjoy coming here on weekend afternoons. They have a nice selection of puzzles, which we enjoy doing while sipping on a latte or nibbling on a scone.
Great atmosphere, great coffee and baked goods.
Nice atmosphere. Great coffee. Live entertainment sometimes.
Just a nice place to go chill and good coffee and desserts
Awesome coffee shop. Lovely decor and ambiance. Tasty drinks and food. They even roast their own beans right there in the coffee shop. And the staff are wonderful and friendly!
Great coffee and muffins. Decorations and atmosphere is good. Really love this place. Only one complaint, closing time is too frequent.
My favourite coffee place ????
Great espresso. The old school blend is awesome. Nice staff and a good local independent option.
Very few tables and very very few eats. Just 1 muffin available at 10:30am! I went there for a 30min coffee meeting. Difficult to open my 2 letter size files because very small table available to us. Music pretty loud too. So overall for what I paid I was pretty unhappy.
You can not beat this coffee. Try a "Pour Over"
Friendly staff and warm atmosphere, cute decor. Most importantly the best coffee I have ever tasted anywhere ever in my life before. And the staff are so good at making it just the way I like it. Delicious. Worth a trip.
Nice coffee shop with good music. They are just getting settled in so some options (decaf, sandwich options) are a little lacking but give it some time. It's well decorated with plants on the walls, coffee books etc. I flipped through the Kyoto Coffee book reminiscing of my travels there. The cappuccino was delicious, the sandwich was simple, enjoyable, but maybe a little pricy for what it is. I'd come back if I was in the neighborhood.
Veey good in coffee and services. I will come again.
Love it there! Cozy, friendly, great coffee and good eats!
This place is absolutely adorable inside. Very inviting little atmosphere. The staff are all incredibly courteous and the coffee was great too, which is reason enough to visit. Plenty of options and not outrageously priced. Was very happy that I stopped in on a whim, and will certainly find my way back again.
Small and under the radar, these people know their coffee.
Great Iced Mocha
Very nice place in neighborhood. ...nice food nice coffee.....price very responsible. ..recommended. ..will come back for sure
Outdoor tables at sidewalk.
Cozy little 0kace to have a good cuppa.
Nice, quiet cafe, run by a nice group of staff just too pricey, otherwise great place
Lovely ambience, good coffee & snacks, very pleasant staff. Relaxing place to spend time.
This humble place is a great gem in a quiet neighborhood of Burnaby. The staff are knowledgeable and passionate about coffees and hot beverages. Pour-overs are highly recommended, because of the outstanding aroma and flavor, although I would like to see more dark roast choice as well. The ambience is great, with a nice decor, good music and free wifi.
Quiet, cozy and quality food. Definitely a great place to decompress. Would highly recommend to everyone.
had an ice americano on saturday morning, place was quiet, service was good.
Cozy, friendly staff, good ambiance. Prices a little over average, but worth it.
I like the look of the place, it's very lovely and has a pleasant ambiance. The food selection wasn't the best and unfortunately I came there to do some work and they didn't have wifi. I would have loved to just relax there while working on my computer. I have tried their coffee and it is very tasty. Again, just disappointed they don't have wifi as most coffee shops do now.
Great little spot. Brings a nice vibe to the neighborhood. Wish them lots of success.
Good
Very nice drip coffee
great coffee shop for studying/work!
Came here on a Saturday at 9:20 am and the cafe was closed. Google stated 9:00 am opening as well as the door. I called the cafe and the person said they were late opening, no apology or anything so not a good first impression. I ended up leaving and not trying the coffee as I had somewhere to be.
minus 1 star because of selection. This is a coffee only place. no fruit smoothies or fruit teas or anything like that. I came here with my girlfriend but she doesnt drink coffee. she just sat and watched me have my latte. Coffee is good. price is higher but its good coffee ! nice and quiet place
Awesome in house roasted coffee beans, beans are always fresh and pour over brewing brings out fruity notes of every coffee cherries. Spacious coffee house filled with knowledgeable and friendly staff. A must visit.
Really cozy store with great coffee and friendly staff!
Good latte. Good service
Excellent service and friendly staffs!
Cozy place and friendly staff..
Very nice cafe. Calm and relaxed atmosphere, good coffee for a reasonable price and really nice interior design. Definitely coming here again!

Not bad, wish I could go here more often but its not open until 10 :/
Best place for coffee in New Westminster. Mocha is awesome. Tea options are fancy and the presentation is always very good. Friendly people too. Great place to sit down and chat or work. Giving 4 stars only because of lack of snacks options.
Little cafe on Edmonds in Burnaby Street parking only. 1st time in and was very distant the young man behind the counter was NOT wearing a mask! Really?? I'd be willing to try them again but if no one's wearing a mask... forget it
