Very Retro interior pictures and atmosphere. Members of the owners family has done most of the original art work. I ordered the Grilled Swiss cheese n ham with caramelized onions and soup of the day was cream of coliflower. So tasty,the touch of French mustard on it was Devine. This venue has comfort food down go an art form. (Voted the top ten cheesiest place in Canada from Canadian living and #1 & or 2 Best Barrie Eatery in TripAdvisor). Don't pass this little colourful quaint mid town diner without sampling the vast range of Grilled cheeses sandwiches. Rated 5/5 from me.

*Covid Review* My partner and I came here on a beautiful summer day. We sat on the patio on the sidewalk along Dunlop. Our server was kind and masked up. She told us about the menu being posted outside of the shop so we could take a picture and look at it on our phones without having to touch anything. There were so many options, it was hard to choose. I gave the server 2 options and let the chef pick with a side of salad. My partner ordered the pierogi grilled cheese with chips. My partner liked his, however he was hungry afterwards. I would say it would be good to come here if you're looking for a light lunch, or wanted to indulge in some ice cream afterwards. I received the mac and cheese with bacon. Although I ordered salad, I got chips. I'm sure they would have switched it out, but I like kettle chips lol. It was fried perfectly, filing and tasted good. The cheese flavour was lighter than I prefer (I like sharp cheddar). You have to pay inside (don't forget your mask). Most of the grilled cheeses are reasonably priced.

This has got to be the best restaurant ever! I absolutely love the music they play here, all the of artwork, and of course the mouthwatering food! I really like how they switched to glass plates instead of the baskets too. Whenever I’m in barrie, my girlfriend and I always make sure to visit this place, because you will not find any grilled cheese sandwiches anywhere else like these guys do them.

We had the Spirit Catcher (cheddar, Monterey cheese, avocado, tomato, basil), Big Apple (Brie, cheddar, bacon jam, sautéed apples, arugula pesto), and Green Goddess (goat cheese, mozzarella, avocado, spinach, garlic). Grilled Cheese Social Eatery has the most delicious food for a good price. There is a regular menu of grilled cheese options as well as a list of ingredients so you can create your own. They serve cane sugar bottles of pop which are ok tasting, but a little expensive. They have fresh desserts including homemade pop tarts. My family comes here at least once a month because we love the food so much.

Ate here for the third time. I distinctly Remember my first grilled cheese here: pergogies with bacon grilled cheese. Soo good! This time I tried "the hot one" with pineapple. Pizza themed grilled cheese with pepperoni, mozzarella, marinara sauce, and of course the pineapple. An amazing combination in a grilled cheese sandwich and I'm very sorry that there's no picture but as soon as I saw it I devoured it. Highly recommend

Close to when your first opened i used to go all the time and be served by nice younger lady. one day a man behind the counter chastised me in front of other customers and kept on yelling as i was walking out of the store for asking about allergy options (which you offer). i wonder why we "didn't connect". First time at Barrie last weekend and wanted to find something to eat after walking around downtown and checking out the Spirit Catcher. Without reading any reviews online, I walked by several restaurants but one particular eatery captured my attention and it was this restaurant that focused on grilled cheese sandwiches in an artsy atmosphere. I love grilled cheese sandwiches and without any hesitation, told my cousin's family to come with me and dine here for lunch! Their sandwiches have funny pun names and I ordered the "Dillicious" which consisted of havarti cheese, fresh dill, sun-dried tomatoes, caramelized onions, spinach, and I added an egg for an extra dollar (gotta get my protein in for the day!). They also serve chips or salad on the side, I opted for the salad, which was really good. Beets and pine nuts were sprinkled on top of it that brought out the flavor than your usual boring green salad. The bread tasted like whole grain wheat and was nicely buttered up with a crispy toasted texture without it being burnt. The cheese melted beautifully and stretched with every bite, and each bite was so flavorful that got my eyes seeing the artwork on the restaurant's walls jumping out at me to take a bite from my mouthwatering sandwich too (okay, maybe the last part didn't really happen, but the interior design of this restaurant is something to appreciate while dining here. Their creativity is definitely worth coming to see for yourself when visiting this city). I think I was chatting with the owner of this restaurant (I didn't get his name before he left work for the day) and he told me his sister helped paint some of the cool artwork you'll see when you dine here. Our conversation actually helped spark an old interest of mine regarding art--I'm going to get that sketchpad you mentioned! Customer service was also superb! My little 6-year-old niece is afraid of bugs and he was able to gently capture the bee that sneaked into the restaurant and released it back outside. So kind of him as he tried to calm my niece down as bees are friends of us, humans. Definitely coming back here when I visit Barrie again! Thank you for the awesome dining experience!

I came here, first time, with my 9 year old son for a quick lunch on a Friday at about 12pm. I gotta say the place is very tiny but extremely quaint. One server was able to run the busy lunch time. My son ordered the basic grilled cheese with bacon and pepperoni, it came with kettle chips and a big slice of pickle, and a mango and peach smoothie. I loved the fact that the smoothie came with a big spoon rather than a plastic straw, kind of like a soda shop style. I ordered the spirit catcher sandwich (it had loads of avocado in it) and the tomato soup. The sandwiches were very tasty and mine specially very filling. None of us were able to finish our meals we had to take it to go. The tomato soup was really good, it was simply flavorful my son and I loved the spices in it. This is definitely comfort food with a special artsy twist. The place itself radiates good vibes, the server and the owner were great. I am very happy I visited and will definitely come back. **2021 edit** Apparently this place changed owners sometime during the plandemic . I visited when the new owner took over. The sandwiches are still good but unfortunately the tomato soup was way too salty and very different form the original one. I believe they are licensed now to sell alcoholic beverages.

Greek goddess was so phenomenal and unique. No one I have ever met has ever had the gourmet experience that i have when it comes to trying new grilled cheese. This place is truly special. If the staff doesn't close the store for no reason, or the owners just dont feel like showing up for work. You'll be like me and stand at the front of the building hoping one day they will stay open for longer than that rare one day. But the food was much better than the service. Challenge me, owner. If you've changed your ways, I'll be happy to come by and try my favourite grilled cheese again.

Small, cozy restaurant with a fun vibe. A few tables out front on Dunlop St. Interesting combinations and toppings to your regular grilled cheese. More filling than you would think. Their complimentary water comes in a nice glass bottle with a sprig of rosemary and lemon. Awesome touch and so good! Very friendly. A reasonable lunch option.

This is the best of comfort food, I enjoyed the Mac and Cheese Grilled Cheese, which works a lot better than you can imagine, and I also shared the Wake and Bacon egg and bacon grilled cheese. Both were excellent, but I'll be going back for the Mac and Cheese. The only reason there aren't five stars here is due to a slight cleanliness issue, would have preferred that the tables were cleaned properly, and the salad on the side, while tasty, was sort of slopped on the plate. Otherwise, you should definitely try this place, you won't be disappointed!

I sat outside to eat on the sidewalk patio, and when they brought my water to go with my amazing sandwich; it was a chilled milk bottle style water, with fresh herbs & lemon in the bottle that was dripping with condensation. So cold & refreshing. The sandwiches are amazing, so hard to choose which to eat. I've been a few times already; and even though I don't live in Barrie, I seek this place out to get a good lunch for a great price. And the staff are very kind and helpful too.

Stopped by for lunch and was amazingly surprised! Had the Green Goddess grilled cheese with a side salad. It was delicious, and that is an understatement. The grilled cheese was crispy on the outside and the ingredients were high quality, the salad was delicious too with a honey vinaigrette. I also asked for tap water and got a pretty jug that had mint leaves soaking in it, just such a great touch. Best part was that it was all under $10! I'll be back often!

Average grilled cheese sandwich, and the kettle cooked chips were ruffles potato chips. Edit: It was on Saturday, I ordered the original grilled cheese and what I assumed would be kettle cooked chips since that's what the menu stated (which I was looking forward to), what I got was plain ruffles chips. Atleast offer chip dip if you're charging people $13 for a cheese sandwich and a handful of plain ruffles chips.

Right now the reviews for this location are at 4.7 stars, for those that are a bit more critical like myself I'd put this place between a 3.8 and 4.2 – docked points for food taste actually. I mean it's good, but not 4.7 good. I hope that's fair to say.

A quaint local eatery that delivers what's promised -- great variations on the classic grilled cheese. Staff are friendly and quick. My favourite thing about this place is that you can purchase coffee/meals "in advance" for others who need to eat but may not have money which is a great way to support the Community. Restaurant needs a deep-clean but I understood that that is underway. I hope that a change in ownership doesn't change this wonderful Barrie gem.

First visit and impressed by the concept and variety of sandwiches offered. I had the Cuban (Very good) and will return for the “Cdn Breakfast Sandwich” next visit (Looked very interesting). As mentioned, it is a funky spot, with friendly and helpful owner and staff. Food was nicely prepared and very tasty. Limited but nice mix of menu items including soup. A good spot to drop in for some comfort food. Try it…you will like it. Thumbs up.

You have GOT TO treat yourself to a meal here. Very best grilled cheese sandwiches EVER! Incredible variety from which to choose. We tried the Green Goddess and the Tomavo and shared half + half. Both were soooo delicious. The atmosphere is totally relaxed and welcoming. The decor is eye-catching, to say the least, and you should play a round or two of "Food for Thought" while you chow down. Loved the pieroghie grilled cheese. The kettle chips were nice and crunchy. Best suprise was the craft diet cola in bottles. Amazing!! I look forward to going again the next time I am visiting Barrie.

The best grilled cheese in the world. Hugely creative selection, I particularly love the Parisian, with Brie, pear, and carmelized onions. But last week I had the sandwich with cream cheese and jalapeño. Extra jalapeño! You can also have a basic grilled cheese, or build your own. There were five of us and I was able to make a reservation the day before. My favourite go-to for a casual breakfast or lunch!

Wow, I guess people from Barrie have it really bad elsewhere, if this place gets so highly rated. Reality check people. Disgusting Mint water welcomes you here. Tomato soup from a can would have been better... the “chefs” taste buds must really be off, and granulated/pureed texture ( unpleasant to the palate) with pretty much no spice or seasoning. Ordinary, if not burnt, bread for the grilled cheese, and nothing spectacular that can’t be easily done better at home. Really scratching my head with this one as I felt duped by the literal false advertisement of this places’ prowess. Add it all to a sour strawberry banana milkshake... Left hungry. Gets two stars because of nice decorations on the wall, but not worthy of much else
