15 years ago some friends from college went in, the owner told them to get out and accused them of vandalizing the place, these guys would never have done that they had the respect of all the other businesses in the area. A year ago my daughter, who the pizza place near by loves, cause she is respectful and polite, went to Fil's she also got treated poorly and told to leave. Seems if you're under 30 they are very disrespectful and don't want your business.

I've been living in the Duckworth and Grove area of Barrie for three years now, and only recently started eating at Fil's Cafe. I seriously wish I had started eating there sooner! The food is great! So affordable (especially for students in the area) and it's all home-cooked by Fil, which is the best part! The atmosphere inside is unlike anything I've ever experienced. Happy, friendly, and very welcoming, not to mention there are many collectables and knick-knacks to admire all over the place (the walls are covered, it's awesome)! I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys good homestyle food, at a super affordable price! Maybe I'll see you there sometime, as I've become somewhat of a regular! Happy eating!

I just paid a visit to Fil's today, and I wish I had visited earlier. The place is very cozy. It's not big, but it has a 38 year old history behind it, with a lot of souvenirs from customers to look at. The family pictures hung on the wall are very nice, and you can clearly see the transition from one generation to another on them. The wait is not as bad as some people would say (Personally, I didn't mind the wait at all), especially since the food you waited for turns out to be perfect. The prices are great, and the sauce is a must buy. The family that runs the restaurant gave me an amazing first impression, and I'm looking forward to coming there more often. Best Souvlaki and Greek salad in town, that's for sure.

I have been going to Fil's for over 10 years and for many of those years I went at least once a week. The family that operates this business is so loving and genuinely kind to all of their guests. They bring you into their family like you've known them all your lives. It's a great place to visit with your kids. I've never had a bad meal. I love breakfast(BEST fried potatoes in town)and their milkshakes the most though.

Upon first entering this cozy lil spot I knew I loved it. The atmosphere is amazing! So many knicknacks! I love old stuff. The wait for the food was worth every minute. I had the jumbo hotdogs because I have the palate of a five year old and my boyfriend had the two piece halibut. Fil is hilarious and very personable with the customers. I felt like I was part of the family. Will definitely be making this a regular spot!

A spot like Fil’s is rare in 2020. A secret sauce recipe, a multi-generational clientele, constant banter from the man himself in the kitchen, and the feeling your grandfather *must* have contributed to the insane menagerie of doo-dads on the walls at some point in this place’s 40+ year run. Lisa & Fil have managed to survive all manners of change in their hole-in-the-wall spot in the east end of Barrie & it shows. From the always kind service from Lisa or one of the sons to the occasionally un-PC banter you can ignore or shake ur head at and lightly chuckle. It’s like your lovable out-of-touch grandfather cooking in the kitchen. Good heart, bad mouth sort of deal. If you’re lucky, the man might flip you the bird while cooking up the most heartfelt food you can have in Barrie. A Fil’s blessing. I’d recommend the banquet burger w (the best) fries for u carnivores, or a loaded omelette w those same fries for the veggie folks. Always add the Sauce. Grab 2 bottles to go. It’s worth it for the triptych portrait of Fil on the bottle alone. For a quick bite or fancy night out w class, look somewhere else. For a good bite & tons of personality- grab ur usual spot in the corner & give Lisa a smile as she slides you a coffee.

Standard breakfast food, but the couple that run it are lovely! Went in with a baby and they went above and beyond for him, provided toys, highchair, crackers, and made lots of googly noises for him. Lots of fun things on the wall to lot at too, including a big blowfish.

The ambiance is interesting. It loud, overflowing, kind of tacky, and definitely dated. It feels like a late 70’s early 80's dinner. The irony is on LCD TV they the Match Game on to really date the place. Still, they have free Bell 5G wifi. As for the owner he definitely charming and politically incorrect. The food is reasonably priced and well cooked. Really can’t go wrong with a hamburger and French fries with gravy and a Coke. Update: Stop for breakfast, sausage and eggs was excellent but at the cash register there's a picture????and the word Trudeau underneath. Please leave your politics from your business.

I wish more people would come and experience Fils Cafe. Fil offers a personal touch you just can't find at any of the surrounding franchises. He's only bettered by his wife Litsa. This Greek couple make you feel like you're in their home for a meal. If you're lucky to frequent the restaurant like I have since 2009 you may even feel like family. Take your friends, family or just yourself to Fils for some great food in a unique atmosphere. You'll wonder why you haven't been coming all along.

Called ahead of time over the phone to place my order, I made sure that the owners knew I wanted my chicken souvlaki Cooked to perfection due to it being over cooked in the past. I got there with my friend and we sat down and I prayed it would be tender, which she said it would over the phone. Got my meal, saw it had a hair the second I got it. I tried to forget about the hair and try the chicken giving them the benefit of the doubt. Oh boy was it dry and just tasted awful. I told the owner it was not tender like we agreed on over the phone. To my surprise she started to back talk to me, she ending up saying I didn't have to pay for it but that was besides the point. When I left the restaurant she rudely shouted infront of all her customers for us to not return again and that she wouldn't serve me and my friend. The customer service was just as bad as the food.

We went here a few years ago for breakfast and now it’s a regular place for us to eat. The atmosphere is very homey and the staff are friendly and treat you like family. The breakfast is great, and they also have good, souvlaki, homemade soup of the day and great fish and chips.
