I've called three times. I've never spoken to someone from Hilltop - always their answering service - and I've called between 9 and 4. I left a message and David called back while I was out. He left a message saying they could come by the next day at a particular time, was that OK? I called back to ask a couple of questions before asking them to come out, got the answering service and asked that Dave call. They said they would give him the message. He didn't. The next day, I called back and got the answering service again. They said they would pass on the message again. This started on Wednesday. Today's Saturday and I still haven't received a call from anyone from this company. One more star than I would otherwise give because they said they could be at my house the next day which is pretty good response time in this industry.

Can't say enough good things about the folks at Hilltop Plumbing and Heating. Our furnace died on the coldest day of the year and Hilltop was able to get a service tech to the house the same day; he had the part in his truck and the furnace was up and running within half an hour. Reasonable rates (standard call-out fee + the cost of the part) and friendly service. Highest recommendation! Adding on that we just had Hilltop do a hot water tank replacement. Jesse was punctual, polite, and had everything installed, cleaned up, and the old tank removed in about two hours. Excellent service!!

My husband and I had never used Hilltop Plumbing before. We had been using another company for years but thought because they are local we would give them a try. I was impressed to start with the professional, very polite and accommodating phone call I had to arrange someone to come by. I had booked an appt. for the following day however was called back in a matter of minutes to say that their expert had freed up unexpectedly and he was on his way. I was thrilled. John arrived at our home and was incredibly pleasant. He was very professional and was able to give us a quote fairly quickly in what we needed. He was able to go and get the parts and come right back to finish the job. We will definitely be using them again as we just can’t say enough good things about how we were treated and the level of service we received. We will never use any other company for our plumbing needs.

They were called to repair the fireplace at my parents (in their 80's) condo in White Rock. The serviceman that showed up had no care in the work area he set up, had extreme difficulty removing the glass screen for the fireplace and turned it back on with a lighter -which was not a fix- when asked by my father to put it back together and turn it on as it should, he offered to clean the glass -which required a 15 minute trek to his truck parked right outside- and considerable effort in cleaning and re-assembling the glass cover, then the fireplace did not turn on and suddenly he diagnosed that it required a part that was unavailable and would take anywhere between 4 and 6 weeks. He left but the whole ordeal cost my father $220 dollars. When I tried to speak to the general manager, he did not let me speak and essentially said that I should question what my father had told me happened. Since I was not there, I should lend more credibility to his employee, I suppose. Good news, an actual professional serviceman went to my parents' home today and fixed it for a fair price and no unavailable part was required. Companies taking advantage of senior citizens in the middle of winter and a pandemic. That's a new low.

It's always a good idea to get several quotes before you decide on a plumber. The prices shouldn't, but they do vary. In our case, our power-vented water heater failed - no hot water. No flood, just no hot water. We read the Yelp and Google reviews and decided on Hilltop because of the positive reviews. The positives: we phoned just before they opened at 8am and received good, courteous service from the call centre. They said Hilltop would call use very shortly and they did. I took a photo of my water tank - it's a Bradford White US 40 gallon a fan on top. I told Hilltop the specs and they requested a photo just to verify. I was told it is a top, power-vented water heater and it costs more to install. This didn't come as a surprise to me, as we've had the heater repaired last year and they told me a typical water heater replacement was about $1400. My water heater had the vent on top so it would cost an approximately $400 more. What I didn't expect was the quoted price: $2200-2500. That's a $400-600 more than I was expecting. Points for giving an estimate, demerits for the perceived high rate. I was told by Hilltop that they do not charge an emergency fee. Replacing a 40 gallon power vented water heater was $2250. The service person arrived within the hour. One thing I appreciate is if any service person removes their shoes or at least asks if they can leave their shoes on. We have wood floors and they needed washing, so I didn't fuss about this. Our heater is in the basement and the service asked if we had a basement door to the outside as he didn't want to risk accidentally scratching our wood floors with the tank. This was considerate. He finished in about an hour (counted as service call - additiona hours: $110). This line item may have to be reworded, but doesn't the install price include this because on my clock it took just over an hour. The invoice & receipt was e-mailed to us which was a nice touch. He told us that he installed an expansion tank ($125). I had not asked for the expansion tank and was really not given an explanation for this. $125 isn't a lot, but on top of everything else it's irksome. The total was a little over $2600, taxes in. The installation looks good. Good soldering on the pipes, strapping of the tank looked solid. In conclusion, Hilltop is competent and fast. Compared with other plumbers I have used, they seem on the high end of the price spectrum (subjective). The ways to improve: give me a complete breakdown of your costs or at least an explanation of each line item. Would I use them again? Maybe. Update: What is good customer service? Follow up on to a mediocre review instead of leaving it as is. I wasn't expecting any reply and if I did it would be an explanation of the charges. Dustin from Hilltop called me up and offered to refund the cost of the expansion tank because, upon checking with the installer, it wasn't explained to me. Dustin explained that because of thermal expansion there is no where for the pressure to go. In older homes, that could go through to the outside of the house back into the public water mains, but that is no longer permissable with newer homes, thus the need for the expansion tank. He also explained that normal water heaters only cost around $1500, but he power vented models are about $700 more. This is contrary to what the installer had told me, but I'm glad this has been clarified.

The tech that came out to do a service call was able to identify and remedy the issue with the boiler that wasn't working. He did some testing and found serious issues with the boiler due to its age. He spoke to me and explained what he fixed, and also what he found. A new boiler was recommended at a competitive price. Hilltop was able to come out the same week, and took care of removal, install and clean up in 1 day, with 2 experienced tradesmen. Hilltop was easy to deal with, and Clint did a great job onsite.

Plumber arrived on time and prepared to install a garburator. Great customer service on the phone when setting up and asking for recommendations on which model of garburator they suggested. Only problems was once he finished the job he did not clean up and left a mess of shavings and pieces under and around the sink. On top of this, because he went over by 7 minutes of time into the next time bracket I was charged for another block of time. While I understand this was not necessarily an easy job we were already nearly double the labour expected when he arrived so being charged this much I at least would have expected him to take the remaining time to cleanup. After all this the pipes were leaking the next day and required another plumber to come in and tighten things up. UPDATE: after writing the review the company reached out and refunded the additional time bracket of labour. Very nice and unexpected gesture on their part.

I had leaky faucets on the tub and the Hilltop guy said the only fix possible in my case was to either replace the faucets entirely or just replace rubber seals in the faucet cartridges. He said the best would be to replace the cartridges but said he couldn't get replacement cartridges for my faucets anymore. A few days later my faucets were leaking again. I looked into it and found out there are replacement cartridges for my faucets at Home Hardware, Home Depot, Rona, etc. So I bought 2 new cartridges and will install them myself for a total cost of $23.00. Update - Before I replaced the faucett cartridges a month ago, I looked up online how to do it and did the replacement in a few minutes. No more leaks. It was all easy to do even though I'm not very good with such things, and my cost was less than 10% what Hilltop charged me for work that didn't 'work'.

Yes, they wiped down with Windex but vapours can still spread easily and linger in the house for at least three days. Windex? I would normally rate 5 stars but without the mask, sorry....

I was very happy with the service that Henry at Hilltop Plumbing provided. Henry was very friendly and considerate of our home. He even entertained my two children's constant questions. Henry was able to diagnose and solve our bathtub plumbing issue. He provided updates on all work being done and asked before going forward with any work. Gas fireplace inspection and maintenance. Service rep was ok. Determined the gas valve needs replacing. He did clean and check two gas fireplaces - took just under 40 minutes in total. Charged $165 for first 30 mins and $60 for additional 30 mins, with taxes total bill was $248. For a basic maintenance visit and letting me know I need a gas valve, this billing was pretty excessive. As a follow up, I had another maintenance guy (Freddie the Fireplace guy) in to verify that the gas valve was gone. Turns out the gas valve was fine and he just replaced the thermocouple which fixed the problem. Very disappointed that Hilltop would not have figured this out.

Excellent service from Hilltop. They were professional, on time, and quality work. I have a fairly new townhome, and the pipes leading from the furnace/AC were backed up with debris. Causing my furnace motor to be submerged in water, and leak in the garage. Brent came and diagnosed the issue right away and fixed it within 30 minutes. Can't say anything bad about their service and workmanship. 100% will be recommending, and using them again in the future if any issues arise.

$250 for a routine maintenance of our generic water heater. First 30 min is a $165 fee. Then they charge you in 30 minute increments so even if theyre 1 minute into the next interval, that’ll cost you another $60. Then some extra fees. I just still feel so uneasy that it would it take a plumber 45 minutes for routine maintenance when it takes others 15-30 minutes. They also didnt clean one of the filters/tubing (could’ve been done during the extra 15 minutes they charged us for). Just seems like a complete rip off :(

This was a good experience. The plumber arrived within a few hours of my call. I was kept up to date by texts telling me he was on his way and then, that he had arrived. He found the problem quickly and was able to fix it right away. He took care to prepare for and clean up any water leaking on to the floor. Plumber was polite and professional. I had the good fortune that the problem was fixed with in the initial 1 hour callout time and I had to pay for 1 replacement part that the plumber had on hand. Don't go to these guys! their operation is a rip-off. I just had their technician over to look at my fireplace. He spent one hour and 20 minutes to tell us that the thermocouple is the problem! ($281) and he said he doesn't have the part on him and he needs to make order the part and come back again (the return trip costs $120). They are going to charge arm and a leg for part too!!! This is unbelievable ....

We had the problem of a pilot light going out. Hilltop responded within a couple hours and the service man was very pleasant. However the $187.00 charge was a shocker. At tops he was here 15-20 minutes. even with driving time between jobs this rate works out to well over $200 per hour. Obviously one must check rates before securing service. Jim

I called, gave them the size of the water tank, and I asked for an estimate on replacement of our water tank. It came in at $1330 + gst. They did not tell me on the phone about an expansion tank that the installer asked if I wanted it. It was not included in the estimate and would cost an additional $230. I told him not to install it. They also did not inform me of a $75 trucking charge on top of the estimate. Do their installers normally show up carrying the water tank on their back? The installer did a good job but the final cost was $1500 + gst. The initial estimate also did not include over $50 for copper fittings which seems crazy high for a couple of extra fittings. You know the guy is going to drive a truck and quite likely will use more than just 2 fittings. And then gouge the owner for using a couple more. Very unprofessional and dishonest if you ask me. I will not use them again and neither will our strata. This is not the first complaint I have heard about Hilltop.

My questions were answered thoroughly and knowledgeably - I have no problem recommending them.

Clint was on schedule, courteous, and a wealth of knowledge. The annual gas furnace service was completed with efficiency. Two gas union leaks spotted and corrected. Was able to intelligently discuss and make recommendations regarding furnace and tank replacement (suggested an option I hadn't been aware of; replace both water tank and furnace with a Navien Tankless with adjunct water coil/blower; an option I will investigate further).

The technician came & unclogged the drain using the "snake" but made a huge mess-he did use half of the paper towel to clean up a bit. I am now going to clean out the cupboard under the sink! He also spent about 20 mins in our parking garage in the basement seeing if he could unclog the pipe from there- he said there was too much insulation to get at things. I am not sure if that added to the cost ($288.00) It appears that garburators are a mixed blessing -a lot you cannot put in it.

The new Boiler installation was not so smooth; we had an issue with the pipework which was installed in an industrial fashion & looked awful away from wall and hanging from roof in the garage - VERY ugly! Having agreed to pay to have it hidden by re-routing through the existing pipework through the roof, this finally wasn't possible. So we agreed to re-do the pipework in the garage to make same look presentable which it finally did; except we were then charged for the whole re-work to put a poor job right! Not at all customer friendly even if the Invoice was partially discounted when we queried same, it still cost over $600 extra to get it done right!.

The stacking kit wasn’t used on the first go around for the washer/dryer and I was rather unimpressed. I came to Hilltop because of their positive reviews. Randy came on Sept 9th to install line a water line. After the work was finished, he left to his vehicle for 15 minutes. When he returned, he said that he was charging by the 30 period and informed me we would be charge an additional 30 minutes after the work was done. I'm okay with being billed for that time, however, he left 15 minutes early without cleaning any of the mess he made. There was debris left all over including under the fridge and cabinets--he rolled the fridge right over the debris. I contacted the company by email and included pics of the work/mess made. They said they would have a manager contact me immediately, but I haven't heard from them. I expected more. UPDATE: I'm changing my star review after receiving the cheque and apology. This is the best way they could have handled this situation. I would consider using them again based on how they dealt with my complaint.

Overcharged and Questionable Business Ethics. On July 8, a Hilltop serviceman came to fix my stove door. He screwed in a loose screw on the door and replaced it. My Visa was charged $173.25 without ever being told the cost of his work. He simply asked my visa number and said I'd be emailed a receipt and ran out the door. I managed to find out the cost of this only after the visa was charged. Isn't it illegal to charge someone without telling them the cost? Improper business ethics.

When I placed the order I was told the manufacturer model I would get. The installer (who did a great job!) showed up with a different manufacturer unit, which I didn't give much thought to. When I went to the Fortis site to apply for the rebate I discovered the unit that was installed did not meet the minimum energy saving requirement. I asked Hilltop about this and the reply was "unfortunately your unit does not qualify. Go to the Fortis site to see what does". Big help! Feels like I got scammed and won't be using them again for anything.

I contacted Hiltop Plumbing & Heating to hook up and service my Gas Fireplace. When the service tech arrived he was expecting to service the fireplace but was completely unaware that it needed to be hooked up first. The service tech was able to find the parts, in his van, needed and spent most of the time working on connecting the fireplace. After the connection was made the service tech attempted to start the fireplace. After some time the service tech was able to get the fireplace started but it smelled terrible and the flame didn't look good. The service tech said that the fireplace still needed a major service and may or may not work for us as is. The service tech also suggested that we should call, in a month or so, to get them back to do the major service. In summary, I payed $500+ to get my gas fireplace connected, but not serviced. I was advised to call back, in a month or so, and have them come out again for a major service at an additional cost. I have attempted to use the fireplace, a few times, but it is exactly what the service tech said, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If and when it's working the flame doesn't look good and it smells terrible. I will not be using Hiltop Plumbing & Heating again.

My HVAC system failed on Sunday July 11th, several error codes showed. I contacted the people who had installed the HVAC system which had cost us over $20,000 - Hilltop Plumbing in White Rock. I spoke to a supervisor called Dan who told me that even if he could send a technician out on July 11th that it would cost us $350 per hour and it would be better if he sent someone out on Monday July 13th. I acccepted this advise. On Monday July 12th a Hilltop Plumbing technician called Dave arrived. His demeanour was very disconcerting. It became clear to me very quickly that it was likely that this breakdown of our system was way over his head. He did not understand the error codes. None the less he said a part needed replacing, when pushed about how long this would take he was most defensive. After he left I contacted the Hilltop office and the later they informed me that the part by email that it would be installed on Friday 23rd July. It was sweltering in my house and it seemed wrong that a state of the art, expensive system that was barely 3 years old would result in such a terrible time. The technician did indeed come back on July 23rd. As soon as he arrived I could tell that all was not well. He spent most of his time at the thermostat and nothing seemed to work. After he had been here some time I asked him about the progress. He then launched into a diatribe about the American Standard system and the lack of training he had received. He then began saying it was all our fault because we had not changed the filter. When I explained that we had been told nothing about maintenance, and how often we should get a service and how I hated the fact he had turned the blame on us he said the following " I do not deserve this grilling ". He picked up his tools and stormed out. I immediately called his supervisor Dan and he admitted to me that he was dealing with " prima dona technicians ". But he understood the system and would clear all his appointments and solve our problem promptly, he would drop everything to see our system up and running. By this time both myself and my partner were stressed out about the whole system. I contacted Dan several times over the weekend of July 24th. I have numerous texts from him explaining he is dropping everything we would be high priority. Numerous times by text we were told that the parts had been ordered and he personally would come and fix our system. Parts never seemed to arrive and he never came to our house once, there was a plethora of excuses. He blamed delays on parts because of Covid in Texas. Eventually we talked to him instead of texting as we were simply fed up with the treatment we were receiving. My partner tried to explain about customer service, as we are both from a business background. Finally my partner Lorna hung up as we were getting nowhere and were were both fed up with them blaming us. Dan rang me back to say he does not like arguments- he then again repeated that it was all our fault. He sent me a text saying the furnace was severely wounded by not replacing the filter which needed to be replaced four times per year.Even though this had never been explained to us. He also said we should read the manual and act accordingly- the inference was clear, we were to blame and they knew of a solution.He would be in touch with us by 2pm 30th July that day to find a solution. The phone call of course never came. He told me that the replacement parts created by our alleded ineptitude would be $800 and he would now not be over to our house until the next week. This would then be moving into the fourth week of our nightmare. I was now confident these people basically do not understand the very expensive system we bought from them, that their customer service was appalling and that they did not know how to fix it. They were trying to shift the blame onto us. We ended up finding an excellent alternative technician who ordered a part that cost $24 and fixed the system three days after meeting him. Chris Boycott

In discovering the cause of the leakage at the exhaust port, he replaced the section of pipe with one he cut to a proper length (so as to sit beyond the inner plastic ring as is necessary). Our tankless Navien unit was then descaled and flushed. He has expressed concerns with the installs he has experienced elsewhere within our development and continues to follow up with authorities.

Had Hilltop come out to do a service check on our furnace prior to turning it on for the winter season. No problems found. About a week later, noticed funny sounds from furnace and had one day without any heat. Called Hilltop. They sent someone out at our convenience and rechecked the furnace. A bent bracket on the outer cover was discovered ( triggering a safety mechanism to prevent furnace from working properly) and repositioned. The serviceman didn't charge for the callback. I have put in my review yesterday, but by reading one particular review here today I must concur the unprofessional approach and “Prima Dona” attitude of the technician that arrived. He mentioned the time, being 3pm on a Friday and would be unable to do the job, he felt would take 3 hours. He further mentioned that perhaps we just return the part and get something that would be easier for him to install. It was a flush mount shower head in our ensuite. I was somewhat taken back by this as I had explained to their call taker exactly what the work was. I too was a business owner until I retired and understand the importance of good customer relations. I would suggest further training in this area if Hilltop is at all interested in keeping customers and avoiding reviews such as this. In the time of Covid, this technician did not even wear a mask, (face covering) which I felt was further unprofessional as he didn’t even ask if we minded he not wear one.

Not too sure what to think. Young man showed up on time with all his tools and ready to do the job. Appeared to be very thorough and cleaned all the vents. He was very pleasant. He would not touch the hot water heater as he said it was plastic and he would not service it. Not sure what that has to do with it, but that was the comment. He serviced the furnace and found something he did not like with the heat exchanger and indicated a new furnace, even though this one is only 5 years old. My Wife read the guarantee to him to show that it was still under guarantee however he was suggesting a new furnace. We called the company who installed it (confirmed it was still under guarantee)and they were puzzled why he did not service the defect as you are also a qualified service provider for this furnace. The installing company is coming out to do a service (and probably replace the defective part) but it means another $200 and probably more. Evan from Hilltop called and has now explained in more detail why the young tech took the position he did. It all makes sense now. Not sure if I can change the rating or not but will be up.

The customer service guy was very nice and helpful. But the plumber was Over charged, he came at 10:16am, stopped work at 11:00am. But charged 1and half hours totally for unnecessary talk. Trouble shooting seems unprofessional, lead to a lot unnecessary work. When he return to finish the job, he spent less than half an hour, but charged $120 for “minimum charge”.

We had an issue with our hot water tank as it was not keeping the water hot. A service rep came out promptly and replaced the gas valve. The next day we were still having the same problem. Again a service rep came back promptly and discovered it was the dip tube. The tube was split on both sides so that cold water was mixing with the hot. It was a coincidence that both parts needed replacing at the same time. The parts were under warranty so we just had the expense of the service call. We were pleased with the service and having the problem solved.

We called Hilltop on Saturday to service our furnace. We received a call around 8:30 am on Monday and an appointment was set up for that afternoon. Danial came took pictures of our furnace and advised us that we needed a new furnace motor. Because of the age of our furnace he had to source a motor and to make the story short, he just left after installing the new motor at a very reasonable price! WOW.. thank you Hilltop for the excellent service we received. Also, our comment on good service is extended to Mike who recently repaired our gas fireplace and did a great job replacing parts and getting the fireplace operational.

Exceptional service from Hilltop. As we entered a predicted polar vortex, our furnace suddenly quit - no heat. First we called a well reputed local (South Surrey) family run service company who told us they would not be able to come out until the following week.... yikes! When I asked whether that company did emergency call-outs, their response was they already had too many "no heat" calls and the best they could do was 5 days later. Next we called HILLTOP - another very well reputed company. Hilltop service techs also were busy on emergency calls that weekend.. But... Brent (HVAC) manager was in the office that Friday and Brent came out himself to check our furnace and was here within 2 hours our call. Our furnace is now working as it should. Hilltop is a company that cares!

The booking service on the other hand was very inefficient. We called on a Friday and were told we would get service between 8 and 10 on Monday. However, no show by 10 prompted a call which indicated that the booking had never been enetered into their new computer system. However, this was rectified and a plumber was dispatched for the 11 to 12 time slot. Your company needs to get your appointment system working correctly.

Called them because we had an emergency electrical issue, and within 2 hours they had an electrician at our door. Richard the electrician was very professional and found the fault in the circuit right away and along with a few other issues that there previously was. He made sure everything was properly and safely rewired, although he didn’t have the parts on hand, he went out to go get the required parts and was back in less than half an hour instead of coming back the next day. Will recommend for sure! 08-09-2020 Called them up again for our pre-winter maintenance on our floor heating and fireplaces. John did an excellent job. He arrived early for the appointment. He was friendly. We had exposed the water line, and he did the new connection. He prevented dirt from getting into the line and air from building up in the system. There was a pin hole in the line. Others claimed that a whole new line might be needed $$$. Also that a backhoe might have to come( into a space with 14 electric wires for an irrigation system never mind the irrigation pipes or the gas line, are you kidding? SO DISAPPOINTED!! Spoke to a seemingly very competent gentleman ordering a new toilet. Plumber came to install as well as do some other minor plumbing work that was supposed to be in the work order. The plumber showed up WITHOUT A TOILET and was about half an hour late! I said, well then why do you you think you're here, to do what work, if you don't have the toilet?? He didn't know! Sent him on his way and hired another company that is also redoing the tub to shower replacement. Then, I called and left a message with their answering service about the toilet and the next day, near noon, I still didn't receive a call back and I had a complaint! I should have been called back first thing the next morning after my message was left. But I was sure to get a text customer service review, which I did not complete. So, my assessment is that they are either making too much money because they miss too many things with customer requests and don't care, OR they need to hire someone else because the business they have lost cumulatively must be substantial (mistakes like these are rarely the one off type) OR they are just careless. Anyway, very disappointed and would not recommend this company at all.

Henry found a way to get a hot water line to our shower and washing machine without having to break concrete!
