Positive: They are really good on the front end of getting a heat pump. They scheduled a day to come in and had 3-4 different crews working on it to have it installed quickly and efficiently. Price:. After multiple quotes, they were one of the best quotes. Quality of product:. Good product for its value. Installed a York heat pump. (Centralized). Negative: Difficult to get any service on the back end. If you try and call them, most times you have to leave a message and don't get returned calls very often. They only have a few people in office. When they didn't return calls, I had to drive to the office to get questions answered. Not very informative when wanting to purchase accessories or replacement filters. They did eventually respond to my questions and concerns. Overall: Good installers, underperforms on service.

Everything about Sunshine is so easy! Setting the initial consultation was great. Everything was explained about how exactly it would happen and how much it would cost. They were consistently great responding to emails and assisting me in getting a quote for a Canex plan. On the day of install, the techs were super nice. Everyone was so nice and explained everything very accurately. I don't want to say there weren't any hiccups, but when they happened, the guys took the time to go over all the options and explain everything out to me. We ended up needing to cut out a lot more drywall than anticipated in order to install the second unit on the third floor. The guys made phone calls and came up with some options for me. I ended up deciding to go with their recommendation even though it meant more/bigger holes (which can be scary). I'm so happy I did, because now they are paying for the drywall repair. I'm so happy with this whole experience and would definitely recommend them to everyone.

Sunshine Renewables were very good with the initial installation in 2015 and the Mitsubishi mini split Heat Pump has performed very well until this summer, saving us a lot of money and providing occasional summer cooling as well as being our primary heat source. It turned out it required a new circuit board. It cost $980 + $180 for the diagnosis- which is $1,160 or 24% of the original price of the Heat Pump. It was surprising and disappointing that such a high cost repair was needed so early. Even so, it has still been well worth having the Heat Pump overall, saving us about $1000/year. Sunshine Renewables staff did the repair job well so our heat pump is working well again. We would recommend Sunshine Renewables but when it comes time to replace we'd go with another brand with a longer warranty on all parts, if such exists.

I will start off by saying that from the initial phone call to the final part of the installation every worker I dealt with was very friendly and pleasant. My concern with the whole process is where my heat pump was installed. Based on the initial visit and assessment I was told that the electrical would have to go through my attic. Based on that information we decided to place the heat pump in my 2nd preferred location. Ideally It would work better in a different part of my living room but because of where that would be installed and a chimney I have it wouldn't work based on the electrical needing to go through my attic. So, the day came for my install and like I said the installers and electricians were all great. So, the installers placed the heat pump based on the initial visit and my 2nd preferred location. Then came the electricians an hour later and realized that the attic wouldn't work so they ran the wire through my basement ceiling. Now, had that been determined earlier then my preferred heat pump location could have worked. Now it is in a secondary location and I don't feel I am getting the most potential out of it for heating my main living area. Seems like something was missed. Also, once installed it seemed to be like "here you go, enjoy"...not much information given on how to use, preferred settings, etc...and mostly relying on Google/YouTube which turn up conflicting information. So overall, friendly company, price was in line with other quotes I received, install was quick but a missed opportunity for a better review based on my personal experience.

The team at Sunshine Renewable Energy is absolutely first rate. All communication, installation and associated jobs were completed efficiently with a minimum of fuss. They installed 2 exterior and 2 interior mini splits plus a pony panel to our existing electrical panel in our house in 3 hours. Everyone was knowledgeable, courteous and professional. There was no cleanup after they left. All paperwork was sent to us and an overview of the operation of our units was provided at the end of installation. I can't reasonably reckon how this installation could have been completed any better than it was. An A-1 job by a first rate company. I'd use them again in a heartbeat. There are few companies I have hired that I would rate as highly.

We purchased two heat pumps from Sunshine in early July. After the installation was completed by Sunshine only one of the two heat pumps worked. We immediately contacted them shortly after we noticed that the unit wasn't working. Five days later a technician arrived to assess the broken heat pump. He told us that it was defective, and that he would go back to the office to see how they wanted to proceed, and that we would possibly be on our own to address it with the manufacturer as a warranty issue. This is not something I wanted to hear after paying approximately $10, 000 for something that never worked. After some deliberation an appointment was booked to replace the defective heat pump. The total time between the initial install and replacement was 17 days. The install crew was polite and professional, but our overall impression of the company is poor due to the defective heat pump and how it was handled.

St Paul's Homes in Halifax NS, is an under the radar charity, that owns 9 houses, leased for a $1 a year each to Phoenix Youth, HomeBridge and the Regional Independent Housing Association to provide homes for youth at risk. Sunshine has installed heat pump systems in all the houses, thanks to grants from Efficiency Nova Scotia. Working with Sunshine has been a very positive experience. There were a few hiccups that were quickly corrected. The support and service has been excellent. I would highly recommend them.

I have asked for a price on a 4 ton unit and was told it's not possible to provide: "it's like a price of your house" I was told. I provided a link to average pricing on comparable units I found on Google and since I am really in the market and need a unit large enough for 4 brms I offered to provide my phone number. Sadly, someone at the company is insecure and decided to BLOCK me :) WOW! I guess because I showed them comparable prices - BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY... and I did it ONLY as an example (and I said so) to help them to give me the info - the range I was looking for to see if I am even in the market! How hard is it to provide a manufacturer suggested price with disclaimers for conditions, requirements, etc! All myself and another customer wanted to know the OPTIONS for a 4 ton unit. I got blocked as a result. Isn't it SHADY??? What's going on? Is there a better business bureau in NS? Definitely something is not clear and right. Bad customer service. regards. P.S. thank you for your response, your personal attack on me is exactly my point of something wrong with your business, secondly you are incorrect and I have shown it to you that it is possible to provide an answer to my question you can definitely answer to your customers how much a particular unit cost is on its own without installation and or incidental conditions on each particular job, I have provided a link from Google to that effect as an example after which You banned me. Their price was one of the better ones I received and the equipment is top quality. If you have a 2 story home, ask them about an attic unit. The installation crew were efficient and courteous. It all started with viewing a YouTube Ad, about Heat Pump systems. Not interested in the cheapest model, but the Best High efficiency Canadian Weather Low Temp Model with decent Rebates and a company that can provide full service installation, start to finish and backed by a great warranty, so I called in and left my details. A day later we received a call from a very pleasant and helpful lady throughout the whole process, named Jill. After a great chat we were booked for our Free in home assessment, which came just a few days later. At that time we discussed what it was we were thinking we wanted and he shared some information about the Fujitsu line up he thought would serve us well. They included the 9,000BTU, 12,000BTU and 15,000BTU sized LZAS Models(Ultra Low Minimum Operating Temperature Below -21C). We decided on the High Efficiency 9,000BTU Fujitsu LZAS Halcyon unit, and where it was going to be installed. 10 days later when Ben the Electrician showed up on installation day, he brought it to our attention that it could not be installed where we wanted it and looked as to whether it was possible in another location. It ended up being moved to an adjacent interior wall with a short 6" conduit run. After a much appreciated, practical tradesmen's point of view, by Ben the Electrician, it was settled, and the installation began. We wanted to note that out of the 4 person's working on site(2 journeymen and 2 apprentices), the apprentice's were both very helpful and worked steady to make their coworkers jobs easier, it was very clear the most knowledgeable was Ben the Electrician on all issues encountered with the installation. We truly feel the installation may not have happened that day in his absence, as he solved issue after issue with location, conduit fittings, hardware use etc. etc., They all worked and completed the job and left our property by days end. After the dust settled and I had an opportunity to have a close look at the installation over the weekend, I thought that a couple items could be tweaked to improve the finished product. 1) A single piece of white conduit covering the Interior units grey drain pipe exiting our house and running down to the ground. 2) At the bottom of the aluminum four legged outdoor unit base, I though there should have been four fasteners used to secure the four aluminum legs to the base? I called Sunshine's Act's payables dept. to confirm their co. name as a payee. While talking with the gentleman on the phone, he asked, were we fully satisfied with the install? I said, just to be clear, you asked me, and we are not complaining, but there was 2 small issues we noticed over the weekend. He said would it be ok if someone reached out to us, we said yes. Within minuets Jill called and said, what are our concerns with the install? I shared with her my observations, and she thanked me and said she will get back to me. Maybe 20 minutes later, Jill called us back and asked if we were home right now, we said yes we were, and she asked if it was ok to send a crew there right now? We though wow, less than a hour from mentioning our concerns to getting 2 phone calls and a crew dispatched to our property. Within moments, we heard the truck in our yard and 2 tradesmen very quickly began. They adjusted the alignment of the existing conduit and then added the backer and snap on front piece of conduit to fully cover the grey drain hose all the way to ground level with new white conduit, it is very nice looking. Then after me pointing out what I though was an issue with the Compressor bases legs not secured to the mounting base, they went into their truck and came out with factory leg base mount hardware, specifically used for this situation. Working together, they gently raised the unit and fastened the mounts to the legs and then secured it to the base on all four corners, now it's solid. They asked if we were happy, and we said yes, very! All things considered, Sunshine Renewable Energy and it's workers did a great job, and we would defiantly recommend them!

I had a couple of issues with the installation - water leak from a pinched hoze shortly after installing. They came out within a few hours and fixed it. Apparently, the spray foam had crimped the drain hose. The other issues I had was with the location of the outside unit. A supervisor came and looked it all over, fixed a couple of things and had the installers come back and move the unit further back from a tree on my property. Finally, I thought my unit had the wifi feature. It did not. I had not seen the second quote for the LZ unit which does have that feature. Once again, they more than accommodated me by providing a quote and even offering a free cleaning in the future. I felt I had complained enough and declined the offer. Sunshine Renewable Energy did everything to ensure that I was a satisfied customer. No installation for things ever goes smoothly. Especially with something as complicated at a heat pump. I'd say you'll be happy you go with Sunshine Renewable Energy and know they will make sure you're a satisfied customer.

These people will pull anything to sell you a system. We had them come and provide a quote for a Ductless heat pump system and they said we would get a rebate from Efficiency Nova Scotia for the system they had quoted. The model numbers of the Fujitsu systems they are selling are very similar from one to the other and the system we were quoted (AOURLFXZ) did NOT qualify for a rebate because I called Efficiency Nova Scotia to confirm. When I asked the salesperson about the options he said that he forgot to provide the appropriate model on the quote and would revise it to the model AOURLFXZH which does qualify. I checked with my neighbours who have the exact same home and system from them and Sunshine had put the model of the higher efficiency model on the paperwork for Efficiency Nova Scotia but sold our neighbours the cheaper, less efficient model. I read another review about them with a person who had similar issues. BUYER BEWARE, this company is scamming people and Efficiency Nova Scotia by selling cheaper models and then submitting a different model so the customer gets a rebate!!!

We have purchased two (2) Fujitsu heat pumps from Sunshine Renewable Energy. They did a careful job with the initial sizing and location recommendation. Sunshine uses their own installation team consisting of qualified and trained tradesmen. Both installation teams did a fantastic job with the installations - everything was plumb, caulked, primed and fully tested. It's nice to see the same faces year-over-year which is a sign of a reputable company. Regarding ongoing support, Sunshine responded quickly to subsequent service requests. In addition Fujitsu provides second and third level support so that there is a great deal of breadth and depth of knowledge behind their product line-up which Sunshine Renewable Energy stands behind.

I had Sunshine install a heat pump after discussing our needs and the house requirements. The installation involved two different crews, and the whole process was well timed. The technical staff were professional, competent and cheerful folks. The critters really liked everyone. I schedule a cleaning every year which also involves a visit from pleasant technical staff. Support consists of a video library online, and experts that can answer any technical questions, then let you know if a service call is needed. You can either pay for a maintenance plan or just do like I do and call or email for a cleaning at the same time every year. I'm very happy with the shopping experience, installation and ongoing service. Definitely worth it if you want to have a heat pump in your home. I find it is amazing to have on a hot, humid summer day. My one bit of advice is that if you are in your forever home, choose something with a good warranty on it. I picked a Fujitsu. It's quiet, easy to clean and well built.

BUYER BEWARE- Both My sister and I were going to purchase a new heat pump system from Sunshine for our homes. The initial visit went well and the quote came promptly. The trouble began when we had other contractors give their opinions and quotes as well. Mine and my husbands home is about 12 years old and just shy of 2400sqft. We made sure we were diligent and got 4 quotes from different contractors. 3 of the 4 contractors suggested a 2.5 or 3 ton system for our home and we were told that we would not receive any rebates from Efficiency Nova Scotia because the type of system we were looking to have installed didn’t qualify for any. Sunshine quoted us a 4ton system and also told us we would qualify for a $2000 rebate from Efficiency Nova Scotia. They sent us paperwork to confirm their system would qualify for the rebate and I confirmed with Efficiency Nova Scotia as well. My neighbour had a similar system installed by Sunshine last year and told us he didn’t get qualify for any rebate and he inquired on it himself because we don’t know a lot about these things. It turns out the system Sunshine told Efficiency Nova Scotia they would be installing in our home was completely different than the system we were going to purchase!!!. They had put false information on the form so that we would qualify for a rebate even though it wasn’t the actual heat pump system we would be having installed. I also had questions about the suggested sizing of the heat pump system being so large at a 4ton system. We were told by other contractors and even Nova Scotia Power that a system of that size would be too large for our home and the existing ducting and furnace would not be capable of supporting it. I asked the person I spoke with at Nova Scotia Power why Sunshine is an approved contractor when they clearly don’t know how to properly size the heat pump systems they sell and are providing falsified information on rebate forms. I wasn’t given a straight forward answer. We opted to go with another contractor who had better knowledge of their systems and didn’t try to rope us in with lies about rebates. This was a very concerning experience and we wanted to let the public know that this company is not what they show themselves to be. A bunch of crooks and amateurs in my opinion.

The whole process was very easy and timely. We filled out the information on the website, a rep called to confirm someone coming to do the in home quote, that rep was wonderful then we got our quote about 24 hours later and on the day of the install the install team was timely in their arrival, walked us through what the day was going to look like them installed the units in the house (even cleaned up the dust!) and once everything was done with the electrical and install they showed us how to use our remote/maintenance for the indoor units. The installation took less than 3 hours!

It's a deep clean where they take the unit apart. If you aren't having it cleaned annually, you're breathing in dust and possibly mold.

My wife and I had been shopping around for heat pumps since April and had Sunshine in to do an assessment. They suggested installing a heat pump in our attic and running ducts throughout. At first this seemed like a great idea but after doing our own research and asking our neighbours about their systems we found out that this type of system is not very efficient and there are other issues that go along with it. The sales person from Sunshine told us we would qualify for a rebate back from Nova Scotia efficiency but we found out that is not true. When I called to inquire about this the sales guy said “they must be making changes because they’ve always qualified for rebates before”. I found out that this is not true what so ever and these types of heat pump systems have never qualified for any rebates and are not recommended by Nova Scotia efficiency as an economical solution to reducing your heating costs since much of the heat that the heat pump produces is lost to your freezing cold attic space during the winter plus they can cause a lot of condensation and water issues during the summer months. After learning all of this we did not feel that Sunshine was offering a very viable solution in reducing our heating costs and they were misleading on the rebates so we decided to use another HVAC contractor for our heat pump installation.

Can't rate anything higher than 1 star. Have now been waiting for 2 weeks for a repair to our heat pump. We had someone come out to look at our heat pump as we were getting an error code and its been 2 weeks with no communication. My husband called once to try and pay the invoice they sent us for the service call had to leave a voice-mail and no one has returned the call. I called to try and get an update, I was told they were waiting on a part and would follow up with their supplier and would send us a quote for the price of the part and when it was expected. It's been almost a week since then and we've heard nothing. Considering our heat pump broke right before multiple heat waves, it would have been great to have had expectations set or at least some sort of communication from the company.

The electrical team left the job unfinished on a Friday afternoon and left me without about 25 pct of my lights all weekend. They only told me they needed to finish up a few things. Scheduled to come back today (Tuesday) at 8:00 am to finish. It’s after 9:00 am now and no word from anyone. If you expect good communication and want your install done in a timely manner, this is not the company for you.

One of our LG splits needed repair. It is relatively new and covered under warranty. Unlike all other companies/assets where if your new product breaks they just repair it for you at no additional cost, I will still be charged for all service.
