I wanted to write this letter earlier but I had to wait for my grand daughter to help me. I visited this location last week to pick out some new lights. I wanted those fancy lights that hook up to my phone because the grandkids keep going on about them. I tried to get them at the Home Depot and they looked at me like I was out of my mind. Luckily I was met by a young lady at Kent named Dariah who knew exactly what I was talking about. She was very kind, let me ask all my questions and seemed very happy to help me. The lights work great and are exactly what I want. Thankful that Kent has employees like Dariah. I'm not as nimble as I once was and these lights make life a little bit easier. God Bless -Hank G.

I was at this store today with my friend. He bought an air compressor. It was not powerful enough so he returned it for a more powerful model. Staff was really good about the return . He got it home to find out it didn't work. We went right back up to the store. A 3rd trip to the store that day. They didn't have any other stock of that model.The staff was so curtious and sympathic to the situation they tried to do everything to rectify the situation. In the end they really came through with customer service by offering an even better model for a discount and apologized over and over for the experience. This is what customer is all about. I highly recommend this store to anyone.

If you are considering having a rail installed, I would not recommend Kent. We have had many months of delays and issues, with very little regard for responsiveness or service. My preference is to support local but it’s very difficult to get someone on the end of the line who is customer service-focused and who cares about a quality job. This frustration has been a unique experience for us as we have a contractors account there and have otherwise had positive dealings. It’s just installation services who have fallen (quite) short. November 26, 2019 I wrote the review above on Sept 16 out of desperation for getting nowhere with staff in the installation department at Kent Bayers Lake. The Google review was successful in that there was finally some action on Kent's part - they called and had someone out to look at repair job that same week. They promised the repairs would happen asap and they'd keep me posted on timing. Since that visit, however, nothing.... Every few weeks I'll send the employee (whose name I will omit out of respect for his privacy) a follow-up email. He sometimes replies with apologies but most often it goes ignored. It is now over two months later! In the meantime, another glass panel has come loose and shattered. This is a small residential rail and in total the effort to get it installed properly and then repaired has been going on for ONE YEAR. I assume we're too small of a project to bother with. I'm not keen on negative reviews but I can't figure out who at Irving runs this operation and, after a year of relative patience, this feels like the only hope of getting any service. One more thing, I noticed that negative reviews get the exact same reply every time ("Thank you for taking the time to review our business! We want to thank you for your feedback as it helps us make improvements. We'd like to discuss your experience in greater detail, please contact us at...") which can come across as insincere.

I went to this Kent today. Wondering around looking for a patio stone. Passed a dozen worker who ignored me. Then I found a stone on sale for .99 a sq foot. At 13" tried to tell me it was 5$ so I used a square foot calculater and what do you know 1.16$ she still made me pay 2.60... I like supporting Canadian places but not if their going ignore me and over charge me then I will go somewhere else.

The staff at Kent are always so nice and helpful, you don't need to chase people down for assistance. Kent needs a bigger selection though, I was able to get most of my stuff there but 2 things i had to go elsewhere and I didn't want to do that-i have to change my review: ONE GUY went out of his way to help people. I went back yesterday for more material for my reno- that same guy from last week and ONLY THAT GUY- was going out of his way to help people. I was in flooring trying to find something. There were FIVE STAFF at the counter-NOT ONE OF THESE LAZY SODS OFFERED ASSISTANCE. I never found the flooring I was looking for and had to settle for something else but Jesus christ.. hire people who WANT to help customers. They were so disinterested I didn't want to suck it up and and them for help. They clearly didn't want to so screw them. 5 goddam staff guys. It was the same in all other departments.

For the most part, staff were very helpful. My real problem with the store is around their pricing. As an example, they are selling a pallet of firewood for $139. The pallet is advertised as a 1/3 cord of wood. On top of that is a delivery fee of $50 which brings the cost to $189 plus tax. Two weeks ago I purchased a full cord of wood, cut, split and delivered for $220 taxes in. Do the math and the Kent product is grossly overpriced.

Kent has some good deals from time to time. I really like their outdoor patio stone and masonry yard, it's so easy to pick your materials. Home Depot's staff seems a bit more customer service oriented than Kent's. I could go into detail, but won't.

Staff isnt very knowledgeable and engaging, we didn't trust the staff to load our wood for our addition, the majority of there wood was twisted, and we were glad we didnt have to take any hockey sticks. We had the siding delivered the wrong material on two different occasions was delivered. We were told originally at bayers lake they did not have our siding color and that we would have to call sackville to order it.. we couldn't order it over the phone which was stupid?? so we drove 45 minutes to stand at the project desk for 2 hours submitting this order. Not worth the hassle dealing with this organization super unorganized the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing.. for larger projects I would avoid kent at all means try using direct suppliers. Wouldn't return

Kents is a good hardware store.they usually have what you need. They have a huge parking lot so parking is never really an issue.the store itself is huge and if your in a hurry this can be daunting. I don't find their website is as good as say Canadian tires but it is slightly better then nothing. I don't think you can check online to see if the store has what you need in stock.. and to find that out you have to call..but they have good phone service.

So disappointed. I'm a senior who needs to use one of their scooters to get around the store. I waited a long time to ask a question and when I did, the fellah was very short with me. A few minutes ago, I discovered that the tool I bought is no good for the task so I called the store to see if there was a service where someone could cut my plastic deck tiles with a table saw and I would pay for it. Nope. Didn't buy them there, so nope. I'm going to return the tool I bought and NEVER go back to Kent again, especially because staff almost ALWAYS ignores me and now they're doing this to me! No thanks! Home Depot - here I come!

I know we are experiencing a pandemic and stores/companies are being overworked and understaffed and things like longer wait times are to be expected BUT, isn't the point of curbside pick-up to pick your pre-ordered/prepaid items curbside to help reduce contact!? My husband went to pick up an order today, he called to say he was there, no one answered. After 20 minutes of waiting/calling an employee came out to his vehicle and asked if he was there to pick up an order. They came back within a few minutes and directed my husband to the lumberyard. When he got there he gave them what they needed to find the order and was told by an employee that "it's over there, you'll have to load it yourself." Okay, no problem. Husband went where he was shown and nothing was together. He had to shop the yard himself. When he asked another employee for help locating an item, the employee simply stated "I don't know." With no offer to help him find it or locate someone that may know where the item was. My husband found another employee that did help him find items but he gave my husband an incorrect item, even after my husband told the employee that it wasn't the product he needed. The employee also told my husband to ingnore the shelving labels (that indicated it was the wrong item) and price stickers as most are incorrect. He now has to return these items at a later date because by this point he was pretty frustrated. We will not be using this service again and are unlikely to shop at Kent in future.

This review is based on my experience with the floor manager by the name of Dean. I submitted an application for employment to him directly. As soon as he noticed that I admitted to having a criminal record without pardon, he immediately dismissed it. He behaved like a drill sergeant, was extremely judgmental and had zero social skills. I will never step foot inside that store for the rest of my days.

I have never written a review but I thought it was time I write one. I am so impressed I even wrote on Facebook:):) We needed a quote for a kitchen. I went to 5 different kitchen stores, incl. the one our builder wanted us to go to.I received quotes for the same kitchen, solid wood, plywood drawers and side etc.I also wanted to sit down and TALK about it. I ended up with Daryl from Kent in Halifax. He sat me down for as long as it took and together we created, on the computer , the kitchen we liked.We had lots of fun doing it (NO STRESS). When all was said and done he was even $3000.00 cheaper then all the others. Of course when we needed ANOTHER kitchen for a small apartment, we went to him. He was able to give us a top of the line kitchen from beautiful cabinets that happen to be on the floor for an amazingly good price. Thank you Daryl for your humor and care. So disappointed to be writing the following very negative review! We've shopped at this location for many years & experienced wonderful service, however, today was the absolutely the worst customer service EVER. We were purchasing two larger items, so I went to Customer Service to ask for a large wagon cart. A young lady said she would contact someone to bring one TO OUR LOCATION. We waited approximately 10 mins, finally I returned to service area again..asked second lady for cart...same thing NO cart. I returned to entry door to ask another young person for said cart, he told me I'd find a wagon around the store. I asked him where I could find them but he didn't know where that would be. Finally, returned to my husband (who was waiting beside items), he then approached two employees who were having a personal conversation. When I told them of my frustration re inability to acquire something to move the items one replied that everyone was very busy in the store......it was very obvious these two individuals were 'too busy' with their own conversation to be helpful. At that point we could see three men at a service desk in building supply area...again engaged in private chat. A young employee (Thomas) appeared, ask if he could be of assistance. We explained our frustration ...he left immediately, came back shortly thereafter with a cart..... he then loaded the items for us. It took 'six' people before we were able to make the purchase!!! When I returned to "Customer Service' to ask for Customer Survey, young lady ( # 2) told me there were now 4 wagons at door area.......but she didn't know where to locate me. I had previously advised where I'd be waiting...so I could let my husband know a wagon was on the way. All this ranting re pathetic employee service on a summer Sunday afternoon... with only few folks shopping in the store & evidently lots of time for personal chat. Really now...each of these individuals (with the exception of dear Thomas) have no problem collecting their cheques on pay day!!!!

Don't order online. No one will respond to my calls or emails, my credit card has been charged but I have no faith that I will actually get my order as it was supposed to be locally delivered within 24 hours and has now been 8 days and counting. WORST building supply store going. I spent over 100,000$ at this store and they repeatedly screw up the orders, or delivery and delivery times. And most of the staff have no idea what they are doing. Really need to work on the customer service aspect as it is horrible. Lastly, If you're a serious builder, don't waste your time or money.

First rate home improvement store in Halifax. I have always enjoyed dealing with this place. Store was very neat and tidy. Sanitizer was readily available. Best Kent around, in my opinion: large with incredible selections, good pricing and very helpful and knowledgeable staff. The only thing I wished they carried was appliances so we shopped for that at the Home Depot close by, which was also fantastic. We bought all our lighting fixtures here and more. Everyone was so cooperative and truly helpful. Their project desk is so helpful in guiding us so this is easily a one-stop shop location. Other Kent stores are good too, but this one is the best.

Beware of the garden center if you are looking for indoor tropical plants. Most of the plants are infested with spider mites, scale and other bugs which will eventually spread and kill all of your plants. Staff are aware but take no action. With regards to the rest of the store, prices at Kent are almost always higher than anywhere else. Sometimes by a wide margin - so shop wisely.

I have been going to Kent building supplies since the mandatory health regulations have been in place. I noted that they have the store set up for social distancing. However there is a real problem with this idea. The employees that are not behind the cash or order desk are not wearing masks. I noted today that a 80 ish man was being advised by a 20ish Kent employee. They were about 50 cm apart. I recognize the fact that the customer could have been wearing a mask as I always do. However it is the Kent staff that have the greatest contact with the greatest number of people. They are not social distancing by any definition. Kent needs to get its act together and mask its employees there are many examples of companies being proactive now in Halifax if they need advice or an example. There is no need to make it mandatory if major retailers would set an example as Cost Co has been doing. Kent is one retailer doing great business during Covid times they need to step it up a notch without being legislated to do so.

I asked Kent to cut some wood for panels and shelves I was making. I chose all the wood in the store, gave them measurements, paid in advance and returned next week driving through a fierce blizzard to find they had accidentally cut the wood too small and they had run out of the wood I had chosen at the store to replace it. We decided to give them another week to fix their mistake and returned the next week to find the wood in the same wrong state and the other useable wood I had chosen nowhere to be seen. I had to get a total refund of over $150 worth and even that took 15 mins to process. Signs everywhere in the store say 'Satisfaction 100% guaranteed' as if to rub salt into the wound.

I walked into Kent's today and the customer service person immediately asked if she could help me. She called for the wheelbarrow that I wanted to be brought to the front. I paid for it right there. Two men arrived with the unit, carried it out and put it in my car for me. Fantastic service!

Like the products and Cdn concept, but their service in flooring and showers is terrible. Young men and women who either wander off or aren't willing to put out the effort. Once in awhile you find a motivated and knowledgeable employee, but only about 1/3 of the time. It's really too bad because it's a rare Canadian company. Kent - please hire knowledgeable and experienced staff, and pay and supervise them well!?

Average sized location, good selection of lumber in stock (access the yard to the right), good lighting and closet organizer departments. I find customer service is consistently better, returns for example, than Home Depot and more personable environment. I do not reccomend Kent for custom kitchens. Halifax Rona return policies and customer service have deteriorated significantly and Kent is now my first choice.
