Written by Tia Crann (Andrew's wife) I have never genuinely wanted to give a place less than one star rating, but this is it, this company deserves 0 on everything across the board. Have already put in a complaint with NS Labor Standards board. My husband and I both worked with Imperial Cleaners. We were sent to clean Citadel Hill in Halifax, NS and the previous cleaner who had been there had completely neglected the place. The urinals and toilets were moldy and clogged with old bits of urinal puck, the exhibits had not been dusted in many months, among many other issues. We worked hard and got the site up to a better standard of clean; however, when we started asking about days off after working 13 days straight, we were treated in a very hostile manner. The Operations manager that we dealt with, was the absolute most unprofessional person I have ever had to deal with in any workplace. She would ignore my texts or emails about time off and when I finally mentioned (after 19 days straight of working) that this was illegal business practices she would not discuss with me via message anymore and wanted us to go in to the office and have an unrecorded conversation with her. She continually made us feel like we were being reprimanded for asking for time off. We tried to be more than reasonable and ask for every second weekend off and that was it, she claimed she was working tirelessly to try and get us time off. Things escalated on our 21st day of working straight. She fired us via text message because I told her to stop using unprofessional and hostile language towards me in her messages. (saying what hell, are you even going to work today thats all I'm asking you - in reference to me asking again about time off the coming weekend) her message to fire us was "well then here this is official, dont bother going to work just stay home. Thank you for your services". The company pays based on contracted times so we had a paycheque coming the next day of 98 hours each, it is a bit convoluted to explain but everyone who trained us, this operations manager included said you are to get your work done in LESS than the contracted time but you put your contracted time on the time sheet. The company tried to pay us less than the contracted hours, which is blatant discrimination and yet another violation of the Labor Standards laws. I sent them the text message from the operations manager that clearly stated how we were to be paid and to put our contract hours not the actual time spent at each site. They also try to load you up with extra work site and contracts so there is no way any person could actually spend the full contract time in any one day (we would have been up to about 17 hours per day had she not fired us). I overall do NOT recommend anyone to work with this company, there are many other cleaning companies in the Halifax/Dartmouth area that would better serve anyone who doesn't want to be mistreated by a company who allows their management to be extremely unprofessional and break legal labor standard laws. Save yourself the trouble and work anywhere but here.
