I called Paul Davis Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes because I had a large, smelly puddle in my crawlspace and I needed the water removed and a thorough cleaning of the space to prevent mold from growing. The rep came out the very next day, and agreed, from consulting her moisture meter, that it was a growing ground for mold. She said it would cost about $1200 to remove the water, and spray the entire area (floor and joists) with an antimicrobial, wipe them down, then spray again with antimicrobial. She said the price could be up to $400 more if they ran into unexpected obstacles. It was a Friday, and she said she could get a team out to do the work later that day, or, if I wanted, I could wait for a written quote early the following week and have the work done then. I opted to have it done the same day, out of concern for my health. The rep was very personable and professional, and made sure to call to let me know she was delayed when she was unable to come at the promised time. Two people came and worked in the crawlspace for 2 1/2 hours, and left 3 fans to dry things out over the weekend when they left. I was puzzled, though, because my house was still smelling terrible after the air had had time to clear. I wondered, if the bacteria had been cleaned, what would be causing the smell, so I went into the crawlspace to see what they had done. What I found was an inch wide ring around where the puddle had been. The puddle had sat on top of the plastic liner lining the crawlspace, and it was clear that it had not been wiped down during the cleaning process. The ring came off easily when I wiped it. They had removed most of the water, but had not removed a small puddle close by where the original puddle had spilled over on the uneven ground. I couldn't tell if the joists had been sprayed and wiped as promised, but to have left such obvious evidence on the floor made me doubt that they had. I took video of the scene and sent it to the rep. She promised the crew would be sent back to do the job properly, but I was uncomfortable having this done by the same team because I suspected they might just remove the evidence and call the job done, leaving me to deal with mold etc. I asked instead if the cost for cleaning could be removed from the price I paid, and this was agreed to. The final bill, after the cleaning was removed, was $1146 - only $54 less than what I had been quoted for the entire cleanup. Almost $400 of this was for the "rental" of three fans for three days. I was charged for two people to come to pick up the 3 fans (they aren't very big), and one of them wiped down the ring while he was in picking up the fans. I do not recommend the use of Paul Davis because, not only did they do a very poor job, but they tried to cover up the evidence that they did a poor job, and still charged me an exorbitant price very close to the initial quote. They come across as professional, but they do not quote in good faith and cannot be trusted to do the job they are hired for.
