I am writing this review with two points in mind. The 1st is to pay a compliment to one of the staff at Planet Clean. I find Layla to be a very conscientious and considerate person who takes customer service seriously, something which I very much appreciate. Further, I found Layla to have an impressive knowledge of cleaning products, in particular environmentally sensible cleaning products. I use a Vinegar/Water solution for most of my cleaning, but Layla informed me that the Vinegar by itself is not overly effective at actually removing dirt. Further, Vinegar can negatively affect the finish of different surfaces. Layla's advice has caused me to look into Hydrogen Peroxide cleaning solutions as an alternative and to reduce the strength of my Vinegar Cleaning solution (I think my original solution has been eating away at some of the rubber moulding on my stove...) So, IMO, Layla is an excellent staff person and a boon to Planet Clean.
My 2nd point is in regard to plungers. The plunger I purchased from Planet Clean, unfortunately, was not of a good quality for me. I had it in the bathroom and the "off gassing" smell of vinyl, or synthetic rubber, was like having a freshly manufactured truck tire in the closed confines of my bathroom on a constant basis. Needless to say it was unbearable. I aired out the plunger on the patio (feeling sorry for the Airshed the off gassing of the plunger was contaminating, but I had to do something to air it out). I left it on the patio for a week, then 2, then a month. The smell never diminished. It seems to impregnate the rubber of the suction cup. The plunger itself doesn't work as a toilet plunger either. It does have the "Flange" portion of the suction cup that can be pulled out to create a firmer seal in the toilet bowl for better plunging, but, flange or no, it was not at all effective when it came time to use it. The suction cup does not "bounce" back into shape quickly after plunging, making the plunging action virtually useless. Very stiff rubber.
I have tried the toilet plunger from Andrew Sheret, and Canadian Tire, now Planet Clean. All of them are not effective, mostly because the rubber of the suction cup is stiff and the off gassing is horrible. I just bought one from Home Depot today, Moen brand. The Home Depot expert I spoke to said they are good plungers. The suction seems pretty powerful when I tried it at the store, with the suction cup bouncing back into position after I engaged the plunging motion (a good sign). The off gassing smell from the suction cup is fairly minimal too. A good plunger is an absolute NECESSITY. I can't believe it's taking me so much time to find a good one. Here's hoping!
