A long term lower back (lumbar and sacral) injury together with chronic neck issues have gently led me along the path toward the amazingly effective NUCCA style of chiropractic over many years. I made an appointment. I told them I had been a client over 15 years ago. I was told to come in for X-rays before seeing a DR. I was not asked what the problem was. I began the X-ray process and realized after two X-rays that they where taking Cervical X-rays. I explained that I was not here for a Cervical concern and the X-ray tech told me that the Dr would need these to make a further diagnosis and I allowed another cervical X-ray to be done. No lumbar X-rays where done. Once over hearing my report The Dr finally came out of her office and said "we" do also work on the lumbar spine. I said "well they took cervical X-rays and no Lumber and I'm here regarding lumbar injury". The X-ray tech in here robust defense said, "you didn't tell us that it was your Lumbar and you had said you where a client before". My concern is that this office does X-rays on clients without inquiring the about their injury after so many years (15-+). I suggest that they develop a client centered approach where people are re-assessed before X-rays are taken especially if it has been over 15 years. The Dr (or someone) should have completed an interview with me to find out what was wrong before anything was done. I found the receptionist to be the only one in the office that seemed concerned for me, as the DR and X-ray tech where more concerned about office timelines and distancing themselves from what was happening.

I knew I had a problem in my neck from previous consultation with another very good NUCCA Chiropractic Dr. in another city some 40 years ago. I started to experience sever back pain and would walk crooked with the pain for several weeks once or twice a year. It would start by just bending over to pick something up.After putting myself in the care of Dr. Thomas I have never had another back problem since. I attended this clinic for neck pain and headaches a couple of years ago....upon the urging of a good friend who does a lot of unorthodox things and has a myriad of dietary and health interventions.....but he seemed to have done his homework and I was new in the area and needed help..... I was to see the male Dr. I assume Dr Thomas but was told he was not available. Instead I was given a detailed exam by a female practitioner, I think it must be Amber? I was encouraged. The measurements of my foot weights had me a little suspicious....afterall if you lean to one side, the measurements would vary on the feet?? I told her this but she was not deterred. Anyway, I was told I needed Xrays....I have had many radiation treatments due to other sport injuries and brain cyst so was not in favor but did it anyway just to get the treatment finally and due to rave reviews by my friend. I understand the need to rule out instability etc.. instead of one I had three....still can't believe I let them do it..... and they were full skull xrays!!!! Exactly what I did not need....cervicals should have done it....I had to watch a good (for a brutal know nothing person) but lengthy and redundant video (I have a background in physio and ergomomics).....I didn't really have a choice. When the treatment came....if you can call it that.....it was most certainly unorthodox and amounted to throat singing type vibrating.....I thought it was a joke at first but then realized she was serious.....I was barely touched and the vibration was intended to align my neck .... Needless to say it also made no difference to my condition but certainly my bank book.....I could not get a refund from my extended health for the Xrays. The whole thing was a waste of time and especially $$. I finally got into my chiro and received the adjustment to put me right. I am still fuming from this experience and finally decided to post to get this off my mind and to tell my about my experience .....more so than slag that office......perhaps Dr Thomas does it differently or the female... Dr?? was new or had an off day? Seems like a lot of posters are in favor of this process which felt like reading tarot cards to me......I am not sure.....Anyway that was my experience and I hold no grudge now that I got this out....so don't please call me like the other poster as I wish to put this behind me.

I have been seeing Dr. Amber Kenmuir for a few months and I'm feeling so much better. I was skeptical at 1st as the adjustment literally feels like a light vibrating touch. There is no abrasive twisting or cracking of the neck like other Chiropractors I have been to in the past, however I am more than pleased with the results! i want to express how much Shawn, at Long Lake Chiro has really helped me and my health. Shawn has been my health care chiro since 2005, and still is now. I had been going to see a Chiro in Courtenay BC, but he had retired and so i needed some one who knew the same technique as my doctor in Courtenay. The process of switching over, was a scary, since i had been dealing with years of unchecked tissue damage from 2 major vehicle accidents, not my fault, which the doctor in courtenay knew exactly what to do. Shawn was so awesome. He made the switch over very comforting, reassuring, even talking with my chiro in courtenay, until he knew what i exactly needed. He was so patient, kind, always making room in his busy day of scheduled patients, to see me, if i had a flareup or was in excruciating pain. I was also diagnosed with a rare from of Arthritis known as Forestiers Disease, or D.I.S.H. and he knew all about it, and how to help me with it. this will be an ongoing specialized health care process, and i thank Shawn for knowing how to help me with this. He knows his stuff. He is always up to date on techniques, procedures and even now when i am a little nervous with an adjustment, he is very patient, explains things and adjusts accordingly. Jill and lInda were always so happy to see me, and always kind, when i was in pain.
