I am a 55 year old woman, who had breast cancer twice, in 2007 and in 2008. In 2008 I underwent a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. I took a long time, (11 years!) to decide regarding reconstruction as the process seemed so overwhelming. During those 11 years, I experienced increased tightness across my chest, which pulled on my shoulders and neck. I went for regular massages, which helped a lot, but I found that the relief really didn’t last. Finally, I underwent reconstruction. I had two surgeries – a DIEP flap operation in 2018 and implants were added in 2019. My body has been through a lot! In addition to the tightness and pain in my chest, neck and shoulders, I developed some lymphedema in my arms and migraines. Finally, in the fall of 2019, I had my first appointment with Dr Gatto. He took a great deal of care to learn about my medical history, and to understand how the symptoms I was displaying developed over the years. He explained how the various parts of my body connect to one another. We worked through mobilization of my neck, arms, shoulders and chest. Dr Gatto included acupuncture with electrical stimulation, as well as cupping, in the areas that were most affected. Then, Dr Gatto performed chiropractic adjustments on my neck, back and shoulders. He also provided instructions on how to fully stretch my neck. I’ve had three appointments with Dr Gatto, and will continue to see him monthly. I cannot describe the relief my body feels since I’ve had the acupuncture, cupping and adjustments. I feel the relief from my head to my neck, chest and arms. If you’re going through treatment for breast cancer, and are struggling with tension as you heal from surgery, I recommend that you include chiropractic treatment in your plan. Thank you Dr Gatto!
