Chiropractic services: I started treatment with Dr. Dirk Keenan approximately 2 months ago, for lower back and neck pain, along with intense and debilitating sciatica. Dr. Keenan is personable, professional, knowledgeable, extremely wise and experienced, and very compassionate. He customizes a patient’s treatment to their lifestyle, their needs and preferences, and of course to their end goal in recovery/maintenance/all around good health. He provides advice and education on lifestyle changes that will best promote your healing and revised journey to health and wellness (including exercises and suggested nutrition to aid in your recovery), and is very attuned to other areas of your body that may require professional examination/consultation (i.e., thyroid and adrenal issues, to name a couple). I have learned a lot about my health under Dr. Keenan’s watchful care, and would highly recommend him if you are in the market for a chiropractor. If you are like me, you may be hesitant to ‘subject’ yourself to adjustments and realignments, but the overall treatment is surprisingly pleasant and even refreshing/rejuvenating. Many people have visions of being wrestled into manual adjustments like some scene from a crazy cartoon, but in reality Dr. Keenan makes frequent use of a device known as an Activator Adjusting Instrument. This instrument delivers a spring-loaded gentle impulse force to the targeted area with the goal of restoring motion – and it’s amazing how well (and instantly) it works! Manual adjustments are sometimes required as well, but never done without the knowledge and consent of the patient – if they are at all trepidatious, Dr. Keenan will stick with using the activator. The staff at Keenan Health Centre are all very professional, amiable and extremely helpful and caring. The atmosphere of the Centre is one of calm, relaxation, and positivity. I highly recommend Dr. Keenan for your chiropractic needs, and there are other services available at the Centre as well that I am confident will provide you with the appropriate tools to improve your overall health and wellness.

I love everything about Keenan Health Center. I love the staff, the location and the treatment methods. I was having back problems, so I saw Dr. Keenan for Chiropractic treatment. I've had to book or change appointments last minute and they were right there to help me. Customer service skills are very important to me and the front desk staff get an 11 out of 10 from me. Another thing that I like about the Center is its multi-disciplinary approach. It's really cool having so many modalities under one roof. If Dr. Keenan, for example, refers you to a massage therapist or a naturopath, you don't have to drive to the other side of town just to see one. Just book an appointment with one of them at the Center itself and you're all set. I find that to be very convenient and efficient. Looking for Chiropractic care, massage therapy, naturopathy or physio? Head to Keenan Health Center - you will NOT be disappointed! I always look forward to going to the Center for treatment... If there is anyone in the Ottawa area or even farther I highly recommend going to The Keenan Health Centre. I have had spine problems, disc problems, chronic health issues and a disease which entailed seeing minimum 50 doctors (family doctor, walk in clinic, rheumatologist, dermatologist, neurologist, 3 neurosurgeons, infectious disease doctor, 4 different naturopaths and physiotherapists) within the last 4 years. Dr. Dirk Keenan (chiropractor) and Dr. Jan Dorrell (naturopath) of the Keenan Centre are by far THEE most compassionate, professional, intuitive doctors I have ever had the good fortune of being treated by. They listen and take care of you not just as a ‘patient’ they treat you like a dear friend would. For anyone with arthritis, sports injuries, chronic pain, fibromyalgia or lyme disease, I so strongly suggest you pay this clinic a visit. If your chronic illness or injury has you depressed and you can’t seem to find any light at the end of the end of your tunnel, HOPE is at the Keenan Health Centre. A few months ago I was unable to walk. I couldn’t stand, sit or lay down without being in excruciating pain, and believe me, I know pain. In just 4 treatments, Dr. Keenan was able to adjust me gently, gave me exercises to do, and I was back to how I was before the pain began. Never in my life have I had a doctor so brilliant in his skill and who offered so much compassion with such an immediate recovery! This week I had a bad ankle injury, I was pretty certain I would have to go to the hospital, but instead, I trusted Dr. Keenan above them. I was given ultrasound on my ankle, it was adjusted, iced and taped, and he even lent me a cane. I have seen 3 naturopaths in Ottawa in the last year. Dr. Jan Dorrell is by far the most equipped, caring and compassionate naturopath I have ever met. I have been trying to get certain blood tests done for over a year and no doctor would help me. The state of my health, my life depended on these blood tests, Dr. Dorrell was sensitive to my needs and has done, and is continuing to do everything in her power to get my health back. The kindness and understanding from both of these doctors is so overwhelming at times it is hard for me to believe that they are real. They care more about their patients than money. They don’t just take your ‘physical’ problem into consideration, they treat you as a whole (mind, body, soul) and you leave their office feeling so good about yourself knowing you are in the best hands possible. Before I started going to the Keenan Health Centre, I was physically a mess and in so much pain all the time, my positivity for my healthy was dwindling. 2 months into treatment I am a different person, I want to be a better person, these people are changing my life for the better and believe me they can change yours. I honestly feel that I have won the lottery with them as I completely trust them 100% with my health, which is my life…and I have never been able to say that about any ‘health care professional’. Now it’s not just Dr. Keenan and Dr. Dorrell that make the best team ever, it’s their staff. Reception is AMAZING and actually puts you on cancellation lists, emailing and calling you ASAP when something is available. They have a life coach/nutritionist Virginia Spencer who can help make the most confusing of special need diets (due to disease and medications) simple and easy to understand again giving you HOPE. I don’t feel that my words are really doing any of these modern day saints any justice at all. I am battling lyme disease and fibromyalgia so it’s difficult for me to articulate. Bottom line is if you aren’t feeling well or are in a lot of pain, or if there is someone you know suffering, The Keenen Centre is your answer. My close friends are witnesses to the transformation in my health and outlook on life and are just as amazed as I am. 2 months later I am still pinching myself because never before in my life have I received such precise, compassionate and honest care.

Starting in 2010, I have visited the Keenan Health Clinic many times. Dr. Keenan and his staff are very good at what they do, and many times I have arrived at the clinic, barely able to stand up straight. Dr Keenan has that special touch, which allows me to get on with my daily life without pain. I had X-Rays done which confirmed issues with my neck, and Dr. Keenan gave me special exercises to follow. I highly recommend the clinic to anybody wishing to reduce any type of muscle or joint pain. Hey its 2016, and I am still going to see Dr Keenan on an occasional basis for a "tuneup". I had a serious chronic tennis elbow injury that lasted over a year. I signed up for therapy at a Physio clinic that worked on my arm three days a week for over two months without success. I go to Dr. Christine Rad and she is AMAZING. So kind, thoughtful and considerate. I honestly do not have enough positive things to say about her. I went to a different physio for back pain 2x a week for about a month and a half and barely felt a difference. After two sessions with Dr. Rad, I felt much more limber, flexible and much less pain. TESTIMONY TO DR. KEENAN Since 2012 I have been suffering from severe leg cramps and muscle spasms frequently (3-4 nights in a row) and sometimes during sports activities. I also had constant sinus problems, fatigue, old injuries to my right shoulder and knee kept tormenting me. I was always tired, sleep was interrupted due to the leg cramps and muscle spasms; It made some days hard to function. It was becoming more and more frustrating dealing with these health issues, especially since the medical professionals could not diagnose the problem. And still to this day, they cannot now provide me with any solutions. I spent hours searching for answers, I tried different supplements, medications, and reduced my exercise program in order to rest since I was so tired. Massages provided relief for a short period of time. I was feeling discouraged that this was not going to get any better and I would have to put up with affects it would have on my life style. Week after week, I listened to testimonies from members of BNI telling us how Dr. Keenan had help them. By this point, I thought why not give it a try. At first, I had attitude when I went to see Dr. Keenan, I was sceptical especially after all I have been through with other medical professionals. I made up my mind I would give this a whirl. Dr. Keenan went to work on me, physical exam, x-rays, and muscle testing for organ weakness which identified the sources of the problem and not just one thing! Dr. Keenan started the healing process, spinal adjustments, pinched nerves, supplements for treatment for Candida, stomach hypo-acidity, adrenal fatigue, low thyroid, leg cramp and muscle spasms. We made lifestyle changes and exercises. Dr. Keenan was able to diagnose the problem and provide me with the tools to restore me back to good health. After approximately 8 months, I go for weeks without any leg cramps and spasms, my sleep is is less and less interrupted, I feel 100% better. I have played in two curling competitions since September and I haven’t had any spasms during a game. Success!!! I started seeing Dr. Keenan in November 2014, a few weeks after giving birth to my first child. I had been dealing with lower back pain since the last trimester of my pregnancy; it eventually became so excruciating that I could hardly walk. After just a few visits to Dr. Keenan's office, I was off all painkillers (I had been given extra strength Advil and Tylenol following a c-section) and feeling fantastic. I started having problems breathing at the end of April 2014. After seeing numerous Doctors and 2 visits to the ER at the General Hospital, as well as 2 visits to the Orleans Urgent Care Clinic, I had been subjected to a battery of tests, including CT scans, Bone scans, 3 separate blood draws, 2 chest x-rays, & ECG's all they could confirm was that something was wrong but that there was no sign of cancer, collapsed lung, or heart problems(which I was also extremely relieved to hear). On the advice of my G.P. I came in to see Dr. Keenan. Within 5 minutes of examining me he had pinpointed a number of subluxated ribs and a number of pinched nerves. Approximately 10 minutes later while he was adjusting my spine, I was able to take a deep breath with no pain at all(something I had not been able to do even lightly without extreme pain before). I have now seen Dr. Keenan twice for this problem and my overall health has improved 1000%. I am now able to move more normally, with minimal pain, breathe regularly, and am sleeping better as I do not wake up every 30 minutes in pain anymore. Although I still do have some pain it is nowhere as extreme and it is no longer interfering with my everyday life. I have 3 more appointments with Dr. Keenan this week and hopefully that will bring me back to 100% and enable me to get fit enough to go back to work full time. Thank you so much Dr. Keenan, you have made it possible for me to go back to work once and resume my everyday activities. I truly appreciate it, and will be recommending you to others for sure. When I first came to the Keenan Chiropractic Clinic with very painful cervical spinal stenosis, I was desperate to find a treatment that would bring me some relief. I had been going through hell with nerve pain down my left arm that left me unable to sleep properly, and was causing numbness and pins and needles in my arm and hand. I first went to the Keenan Health Centre when I was suffering from lower back pain that had become so bad I could not bend over to tie my shoes. I was heavily into weight lifting and was looking for a solution that didn’t involve staying out of the gym. Dr. Keenan put me into a treatment plan with adjustments that, within a few weeks, had me starting to feel normal again. Carlan Stants was commissioned by my insurance company eighteen months after my motor vehicle accident to provide his opinion regarding my injuries. Among the various injuries I sustained, Carlan Stants incorrectly concluded that I did not suffer a concussion. However, he subsequently had to reverse this unfounded conclusion upon receiving medical evidence indicating that I had indeed suffered a concussion. Unfortunately, my overall experience with him during the assessment process could easily be characterized as a master-slave relationship, where my input or questioning was swiftly and judgmentally dismissed by him, and his opinion was deemed accurate and correct (by him). Following are further examples of his unprofessional tactics: • Refusal to follow up and/or correct reports when medical information contrary to his speculative opinion was presented. • Inability to accurately interpret OHIP codes. • Demeaning, insulting and harassing his patient. • Lying to an insurance company. It is my experience that his ethics and integrity are questionable, and that he certainly cannot be trusted. As well, he does not like to have his opinions challenged and resorts to harassing his patient when they are. Ultimately Carlan Stants’ omniscience clouds his professionalism and results in a very distrustful experience for the patient and yields suspicious and questionable examination results. I do not recommend his services. If your insurance company assigns him for your “independent” medical evaluation, it might be in your best interest to request another evaluator. Note: At time of this review, Carlan Stants is under investigation by The College of Chiropractors of Ontario regarding this matter. Feb 7/21 Update: Received the college’s report regarding his misconduct and as you might expect the self regulated “spin doctors” spent considerable effort to justify Carlan Stant’s inconsistencies and his lie. The College indicated “In hindsight a flat-out denial" (in other words lying) "was imprudent because this is the kind of thing that someone might not remember saying, or might say in an attempt to establish rapport with a claimant. However, since the remark and the denial of it are irrelevant to the substance of the reports, the ICRC will take no further action.” So it appears that according to College, lying is justified and may be impudent but necessary to establish rapport with a client. I always thought the best way to establish rapport was to establish respect – so why not try that? Of course if you are incapable of establishing respect I suppose lying is an alternative. In any case this is but one example of how this self regulating body governs itself. Needless to say an appeal has been launched so stay tuned.

This place has become by second home in Ottawa. Oh wait sorry, I mean I feel at home here every time I come here for an adjustment or physiotherapy. The staff are super friendly and make you feel at home. I've had physio with Chantal, for my knee and shoulder. She takes her time to educate you about your injury and how to treat it. I've had positive results. Both Dr. Keenan and Dr. Martin are wizards. You walk in with neck or back pain and you walk out not only without the pain but a sense of well being. Not sure how I walk out that place feeling more confident about life and good about myself. I just came in for an adjustment and I feel like I can take on the world after. The rates are great and if you have coverage, even better because they do direct billing. These guys take care of you, so stop looking and come here.
