The atmosphere at the Blue Star is relaxed and warm. The servers are very pleasant and fun. The food is home made and amazing. You never leave the restaraunt hungry. The portions are incredible. All at a great reasonable price. When you go in, don't forget to stop at the bar and say hi to Johnny!!! He is the owner of the establishment. He is a funny crazy guy!!!!
I've been here more than once. It's always the same, one hour from having your order taken until it finally hits your table. With covid this place is operating at reduced capacity and this still hasn't shortened the wait time. The food really isn't too special either. There's places out there with similar fare that are superior in every way.
This diner is where probably anyone should be going if you are a fan of one. Its quite simple and elegant and lots of options to choose from. Love the interiors, including the bar area - and yes you could have drinks in the morning too! the staff is quite friendly and will probably keep pouring coffee if you would like. the brunch scene is quite bold and very instagrammable if that's is what you thing is. but nevertheless, the food is very tasty and worth the money. it could get busy very quickly considering weekends - even around 9am on a saturday but then they are good at handling the customers. so you don't have to turn away. I am going to go back here if I am ever in Calgary next time! :)
Good food friendly staff nice atmosphere
Love the blue star! My favorites are cabbage rolls and the hot roast beef ????
Pro: Great prices for good portions of food. Lots of options for breakfast and lunch. Con: The front room smelled like a urinal, and the server seemed forgot to bring some things out.
Always amazing borscht soup and homemade pies, cabbage rolls are the best in Canada. Can't really say anything bad about this place.
Great food, good service, dine in, or take-out!
Excellent Service! Great food! Lots of variety and generous portions. Interior looks nicely renovated. The server went above and beyond. I could tell that she truly cared about our experience. The kids had a blast and enjoyed chosing a toy from the treasure chest. I highly recommend this place.
Nice place, a small restaurant, with a sorry if retro diner vibe. Food was really good, staff was friendly. It's in an out of the way location, that's easy to overlook, so keep your eyes peeled for it. I actually drove past it once on the way there.
Terrible covid safety precautions, cashier and at least two chefs not wearing masks, cashier was openly coughing on things, bad order management, ok food.
This is such a lovely old dinner. I love coming here. However, our service today had much to be improved upon. The waitress seemed annoyed at us but super friendly to elderly customers. She also didn’t ask how we were enjoying our meal or if we needed anything. She also brought us our bill before we were half finished our meal. We were going to get pie as well as our breakfast meals but we started to feel unwelcome by our server. Being a server myself I know how much a little kindness or smile can go.
The staff is fantastic and friendly. The front of the restaurant has a great old Diner vibe to it. We go there for breakfast and the portion size taste and quality is top-notch! Really good coffee too!
Excellent tasting food and big portions. Priced well. Will def be back!
Just had an amazing bowl of tomato vegetable and pasta soup but the kicker was the Smokey Bacon Burger it was totally awesome. Plus staff was awesome as well. Make your evening and stop by tonight and if you can't do it tomorrow you won't be disappointed.
Prices are incredible and portions are very substantial. Home made food. Pies are sooooo good. No one is disappointed eating at the Blue Star. We certainly aren't.
Breakfast is our favourite here. Fair price, decent quantity, and great quality. Our favourite spot to eat in welland. Staff is great as well
Have not been at the Blue Star for years. Went at a friend's invitation and was very impressed by the size, quality and low price of a Turkey poutine. Took half home in a doggie bag yet fully satisfied. I see myself going back in the near future.
Great service and the meals were fantastic.
Really great place to grab breakfast with the whole family!
We loved our turkey Thanksgiving dinner take out. Will get our Christmas diner here too if it's this good. Good to see covid rules are followed, that's not discrimination that's the rules everywhere and it's caring. Anyone that dislikes that can do curbside pickups too.
Really great place to get food! Probabaly my favorite in Welland. Very reasonable prices for the portions, great coffee and homefries for breakfast. My friend and I are regulars here and never had a bad meal. The deserts are great, I suggest the banana bread or peanut butter cream pie! Yummy! Staff always friendly and fast. Highly recommended!
Heard lots of hype about this place. Very disappointing. My wife's wrap was soaking in grease to the point of squeezing out. My food tray was all grease at the bottom. If you enjoy greasy food this is place for you. The staff are awesome but the food in my opinion not worth it.
I will go to this restaurant every time I visit the area now. The portions are great and the prices are very fair. The food tastes fantastic and you can tell they use the original recipes, no shortcuts!!
Food was very good and delivered hot and a good portion. The waitress was excellent. Definitely will return.
good service , good little pub if your traveling the area, food was mint , id come back again
Great food and quick service. I have never had a bad meal here. Portions are perfect and the staff are excellent. Truly a hidden gem.
Wait staff has always been very curteous, the food is always good and they own any mistakes. Once i said no mushrooms for my dinner but it was served with mushrooms which i am allergic but the waitress appologized and the kitchen remade everything and it was just a good experience that youre not at fault or feel bad for a error. It is also a nice family orriented restaurant to come sit down have some food and drinks and youre not rushed at all there.
These guys were great!! I had a last minute food order on Christmas Eve morning and they did it for us! The food was awesome- broasted chicken and potatoes. We will definitely order this for future family events. They definitely look after you here.
One of my favorite family restaurant. Remember going with my parents when younger. Today I take my mom there regularly and I purchase regularly.
Great place to eat it was great 10 years ago and is still great today. Food is just awesome servers are very polite. The owners are cool and they are ticat fans. Just moved here but this will be my number 1 place to go for some real food. Oh I also dont like cherries but the cheesecake is to die for yum yum
No idea why people love this place so much. Maybe it's because we went for lunch. The glasses were dirty and when we asked for a straw, the waitress took one out from behind her ear. Unwrapped. Never again
You are treated as an individual, not a number on a seat. The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable. The staff are great and they want your stay to be enjoyable . They are set up so that everyone feels safe during this time of Covid. If you want a good meal at reasonable prices in a safe environment I would highly recommend BLUE STAR RESTAURANT in Welland, Ontario.
Excellent food and beyond the top service. I felt at home.
Little did i know we went in shortly after a small power outtage in Port Colborne. Place was quite busy however they opened up the front section for 5 to 6 families to accommodate the rush. Excellent service and good food.
Ive been coming here for over 30 years. My family used to bring me here every other sunday for dinner when I was a kid and now Im trying to do the same. Great family atmosphere with friendly staff. If you like home cooked food you'll love the Blue Star. Anytime of day there is always people coming in and out of this joint, so you know there doing something right. Personally when I want something quick I'd rather come here for there sliced roast beef on a bun than hitting up a fast food place. At least here you know your getting real food that fills you up for the same price if not less than a combo at some fast food burger restaurant. Breakfast I find is the busiest but even then there is always a seat and durring the dinner rush you are never waiting long for a seat to open up. Love this place, love the food and I plan on coming back for years to come.
No masks from staff, and also don't care about drivers and customer picking up without masks.
Took the family for dinner because it was one of those night none of us felt like cooking. We had a bunch of gift cards we had won so we figured why not. I haven't been to the Blue Star in many years so I was looking forward to it! When we walked in it was busy but not packed. Took a few minutes to be seated. We had to ask for kids menus for the kids which I thought was odd but no biggie, everyone's human. We all ordered and the prices were pretty decent. The service however was a bit slow. Again not a huge deal. Our food was great and I was stuffed by the time I was done. The wife thought her wrap had a little too much hot sauce on it but all in all was good. Again a little bit slower on the service side than I usually prefer but whatever. When we got our bill I found out I had to Pay at the counter instead of at the table. My wife left a tip on the table and I went to the counter to pay with the gift cards we had. Our meal was about $10 less than closest amount of gift cards I handed over. After a little confusion by the girl at the counter I was advised that we don't get change when it's a gift card. Being that we won the gift cards it wasn't a big deal but I would have thought if I didn't spend the full amount on the certificates I would have been given at least a certificate with the difference to use on our next visit. It was a bit of a bummer considering tonight's meal was about half of the total gift cards that we received. If I would have thought of it I would have kept one of the $25 cards and paid the difference so we didn't lose out. TLDR: Food was good, Service was a little on the slow side, Lots of confusion on how to handle gift certificates resulting in us losing out on about $10-$15.
I went to this restaurant as it was somewhere I had been some 15 or so yrs ago. I thought that this was going to be a great treat as,I believed it had kept It's integrity. WRONG! I will keep my memories of no garlic in the mashed potatoes and coleslaw. What is so wrong with them with butter salt n pepper? I don't know. But...I will say no never again. The waitress was so tired the environment bland. Too bad..it was great in the day!
Best food ever...the pies are absolutely the best I've ever tasted. It's a little cool in there in the winter so dress warm and of prepare to eat an excellent meal.
The diner area is gross and out dated the washrooms are run down and smell really bad. The food was decent and the other dining area (back area) was okay. We had breakfast during our visit.
It was my second time going here. The broasted chicken is my go to. The food never disappoints. We had a party of 17 and they were accomodate us. The service was also very good. Try the sugar pie if you want to finish your meal with a maple syrup tasting pie.
Thank you Blue Star for the great service provided yesterday. The owners, management and staff went above and beyond accommodating my family and guests. Highly recommended.
I have always had a great meal at the Blue Star. The food is great and the place is usually busy so your order can sometimes take awhile to get to you. The wait staff can be not the most friendliest during busy times but the food makes up for this.
Great food. Just average inside. Huge portions, reasonably priced. Real homemade food. Been there for years. A Welland icon for sure
They forgot our soups, oversaturated the Cesar salad with dressing, and two employees were discussing their dogs menstrual cycles while we were trying to eat six feet away. Food was decent but service was lacking. Doubtful we will return.
Excellent food & service, fablous cabbage rolls
The best cabbage rolls and perogies. It's a must stop if your in early for breakfast. Always a great meal great service. Value for your dollar. Get some perogies or cabbage rolls to go.
The portions are very big, and I'm not complaining about that. Food and choices are excellent and we have been multiple times and plan on going there always.
My favorite place to eat good service and friendly people
Our order was a bit wrong, but, I called and they corrected the issue. Kudos. Great food. Fast pickup. Friendly.
Mediocre food and slow service. When I heard about this place everyone said how great it is but after four visits I'm left very underwhelmed. The restaurant is filled with weird family portraits and the bathrooms are in dire need of cleaning and renovations.
One of our regular go to places. Service is always top shelf. Best comfort food around. Thanks guys.
Amazing food, nice and friendly staff! Thank you!
Food fantastic. Service even better. They have the fabulous Beyond Meat veggie burger ... divine!
My kids favorite restaurant in greater Niagara Falls area. Chicken wings are worth the drive. Trio party platter is overwhelmingly big. Portions are just big. Staff are friendly and described wings as dinosaurs wings LOL....
Food was great. The blue star is classic- but for breakfast I think over priced.(7.75 for a blt...not including home fries....) We had a big group of people (called a few days ahead to reserve) so I understand the waitress was probably a bit stressed... But she didn't supply water to the table and there was not enough coffee and or tea for everyone. She seemed very confused and scattered.
The food portions and taste was awesome. The service was great and fast. The price was good
One of the best restaurants! We go there at least once a week. Good for any type of get together. Great food and service
Great food, got a gluten free meal and I didn't get sick, I'll totally be back.
Horrible horrible place so dirty! and the worst part is the jerk manager throwing pregnant customers out because they've nicely complained! rather than fixing your problem Don't even bother food is sub par on its best day .
Having been a patron for several tears I have seen the evolution of a respectable dining establishment. It has survived many storms and turmoil and still exists. It is this tenacity that has made this one of the finest sites in Welland to enjoy a good meal. It isn't fancy but displays a good and friendly atmosphere to relax while dining. The food is good and generously portioned to satisfy and appetite. Visit the Blue Star for a different dining experience.
Great food --- the borscht is excellent as is all of their food. Huge portions of REAL FOOD...Johnny is a sweetheart and always remembers me being there quite often despite living in London. I wanna clone the Bluestar so there can be one in London. Park carefully or you will get a parking ticket though!
Best wings and reakfast in Niagara!!! We come here every weekend at least once for breakfast and have been doing so for over a year now. Hell, we often eat dinner here as well sometimes visiting twice a day. The simple breakfast is cheap but you can get some serious food if you want to like Eggs Benedict that seems to be a big hit. My personal favorites are the Wings, Turkey Club and the the Hot Turkey Sandwich. Pretty much as good as it gets and the price is right. Don't let the exterior of the place fool you. I hesitated to come here the first time but since we did we have been regulars and raving fans.
I have eaten here many times and have always had good food. Their potato soup is great! But remember to save room for a piece of the wonderful pie! I like the decor, the front reminds me of childhood diners that had home style cooking (and they do!),and the back is not to big or to small, perfect for dates but also family dinners, or any special the requires great food and room to enjoy it. And there is parking too. If looking to cater a party they have great chicken, cabbage rolls, salads etc. The prices can't be beat and you wont believe how much you get. Where I work we have used them 3 out of the 4 years since I started, at Christmas. The one year we did not use them we agreed that the Bluestar will always be our first choice. Needless to say they will be our cooks this year too.Hope to see you there, I know you will agree.
Good for breakfast. Good prices. Good home cooked comfort foods. Always consistent and good quality. Friendly staff very accommodating. Many thanks to the owner for keeping it going!!!
Good food. Great service. Accepts all major forms of payment. Parking here was confusing. Pay parking all around the building with 1 free lot which is very tight and not well marked. Pay parking 1$ per hour. Entrance from public lot is not fully accessible.
I took my granddaughter in on a Saturday night, and she ordered and chicken strogganoff, she did not like it at all, it was dried up. We told the waitress and she did not even offer her another dish or even a sorry. That dish cost me of $12.99 and tossed in the garbage, Not impressed at all, any other restaurant would of offered something else or not even pay for it. I use to go there allot before, but since last few years, food is not good like it use to. Another time chicken was not even cooked, sent it back to recook it...just saying
My favorite home cooked meal restaurant in Niagara Region, prices are good too. There is a reason why the Blue Star has been opened for so long.
French toast (add cinnamon) was very good. Homefries we're good and cheap! Enjoyed the decor as well!
Excellent service and quality cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Friendly and professional staff. Prices are also fantastic.
Omg..... I can't share enough how great this place is!! The prices were incredibly low for the amount and quality of food! I had the Big Bear burger mmmmmmm The only thing that could improve my experience is it moving closer to my house!!
Great atmosphere, great food, great service. Really no complaints about the restaurant, they had some old fashion cartoons on the TV, which I ADORED, food tasted good and portion sizes are fair for the price(which is very reasonable …
Great service and the cabbage rolls were great. They remind me of grandmothers that she use to make. Thank you for the great food and service Blue Star restaurant staff.
Just love it, everytime we go it's amazing. I love the French onion soup! YUM wish it was made with the same bread everytime. But regardless it is delicious
This restaurant is a staple stop for locals and travelers alike. Every opportunity I have when passing through Welland, Blue Star is on the menu when I'm looking for great food & good service in a casual environment. Cabbage rolls are stellar. Hot Turkey sandwich is one of the best around. Burgers are delicious. Coconut Cream pie... Fantastic! I may be a bit nostalgic about the Blue Star, but I promise you won't be disappointed.
Food was fantastic, had the cabbage rolls and they tasted better than i ever expected. 100% going to be coming here every week. Thanks, you guys are amazing.
Good variety of food items to suit everyone. Reasonably priced. Open Monday's when other's in area are not. Best liver & onions around!
Great diner that's been there for almost 70 years. Big servings if great food and very reasonable prices.
Awesome breakfast, but the plating is odd for the breakfast sandwiches as well as the eggs Benedict as it's the only thing on your plate ????????♀️ also, my kids were bummed that the treasure chest was empty, as that usually gets them to eat everything???? Service has always been fast, friendly and enjoyable! We will be back!
best chicken wings in town, and made with cornmeal, so they're gluten free! the restaurant is nothing frilly and may not seem like much to look at but they have good portions/prices and the food is tasty. no reason to complain here!
1. Cabbage rolls: very delicious sauce but bland stuffing 2. Fish and chips: bland fries very delicious fish 3. Hamburger: med rare meat tasty but bland 4. Lemon meringue: delicious
Review update. April 2021. Still amazing food. Tried a few new dishes. Sill 5 srar. Great homestyle food. Kids enjoy the huge burgers. All portions are big..... Great prices Have to try peanut butter pie. Snookie is the best waitress ever!!!
Poor food quality, high prices and poor service(unless you are eating breakfast). I have lived around this area for along time and try it every once in awhile. For takeout/lunch/dinner this place is really atrocious
Usually I quite enjoy the Blue Star. Last evening we were there with 4 other friends...so.six.of us for dinner. Four of us had the Ukrainian trio, one had just cabbage rolls a.d one had pan fried fish. Everyone's cabbage rolls.were cold. The broasted chicken was just warm. The pierogies we're a bit warmer. Our waitress was lovely and apologetic. She took.the cabbage rolls.bacl to the kitchen and had them reheated. They were barely warmer when they came back. Most of us took them home so we can heat them up ourselves. Again, the waitress apologized but not a word from the owner who was not far away at his place behind the cash register. Also, for those that require gluten free options, be very careful. They have broasted chicken on the gluten free menu and the waitress assured us, it is NOT gluten free. The pan fried fish on the gluten free menu is also not gluten free as it is dusted with flour before pan frying. Overall we were less than impressed with the food. The service was excellent.
Awesome food and fantastic service every time, been going for many many years
Great service. Very adorable decor and feels like home when you walk in. So much food and it’s all really good. I would recommend to try this place out. For a little diner its well worth it.
Great food and service! Always have to bring home a couple dozen of their cabbage rolls when we're there! ????
Good food. Heaping helping and was a good experience until it was time to pay. The place was very busy and the debit machine was where the bartender was and he was stone faced and in no hurry. Waited at least 5 minutes while a waitress was flying back and forth and shouted rudely and loudly to me "excuse me" 3 times !! . There was no where else to stand unless I wanted to stand over the bins of dirty dishes. No one was interested in cashing me out so I could get out of the way. It was embarrassing . I doubt I will go back
Tl;dr - It's the best friend chicken out of all the chains, cheap, and portions are huge. Come here to get fried chicken and you won't be disappointed. I've been here multiple times and have been satisfied every time. I always get the three piece broasted chicken with fries, and the broasted chicken (uses special equipment to fry) is better than any fried chicken place I've been to, and just so you believe me, I will list them out too: - Popeyes - KFC - Mary Brown's - Church's - Chick n Joy - Chick-Fil-A - Jollibees - Grandone - The Fry Korean fried chicken The chicken is flavourful, if very slightly oversalted, the chicken skin is crispy, and it's the juiciest out of all the places I've been to. You bite in and chicken juice that's not too oily drips down your hand all the way to the elbow. Also I can eat like a 600 pound man and I can barely finish the three piece with fries, which costs $10 before tax. Is there anything I regret? Yes, getting the three piece with fries even though I know I won't be able to walk after I finish.
This was our first experience at the Blue Star Restaurant . The waitress was very patient with us considering, it was really hard to choose from the great selection in the menu. I had the vegetable omelette which was delicious and the girls had the sausage in the bun and onion soup. We were all more than pleased with our choices. The owner had us sample their famous cabbage rolls. This will be on our list for the next visit for sure.
We had a large group booked (12) for 9:30 a.m. and most everyone was there early. We weren't offered coffee until just before 10:00 am. Not sure but it looked to us there was only one very frustrated looking server working. It took a while after that to take our order. Once the food started coming piecemeal it didn't take long to realize all my food was luke warm at best and my eggs were ice cold. My meal came with homefries but I did not receive it with my meal; instead the waitress brought in a big bowl for everyone to eat from. I did not mind this except for the fact that I was practically done my meal by the time she brought them out. At least they were hot.
Huge breakfast portions however the waitress could have been a little more pleasant, although she was efficient. At the end of our breakfast, the owner offered each of my children a surprise bag from the treasure chest, which was a lovely surprise!
It's a nice restaurant as long as you go to the restaurant area. If you go to the diner it's very dirty and looks like it hasn't been maintained in a long time. Server was rude and it took forever for the food to come out. Server didn't ask us about drinks either.
I am a former employee at this restaurant and worked there for nearly a year as a line cook. I took my spouse to eat there yesterday and I have to say we were thoroughly disappointed and disgusted even. I had the nachos supreme which other than the fact that it took 25 minutes to heat up cheese, meat and veggies to put over nachos, was not bad taste quality. The pasta that my spouse ordered however was ABSOLUTELY terrible. She ordered the Alfredo Bowtie pasta with shrimp. I personally think this pasta a degrading 1/5. The Alfredo sauce was as thin as water (like eating a soup) and the noodles were WAY overcooked. The shrimp were also very small and only 5 of them. We did not even get matching bowls and when I tried telling any of this to Johnny, he laughed at me and walked away. I am disappointed.and disgusted with the "food" I was served from an apparently 4star restaurant as I can make these dishes at home with my eyes closed and have it taste better than the pasta we tried to eat yesterday but couldn't even finish. I was reluctant to even pay for it and we definitely will NOT be eating there again. The biggest disappointment though was how little the boss/business owner(s) cared about this. I guess Bluestar just isn't what it used to or could be. On a sidenote, the service and waitress were pretty good so I will still give the experience one star. That is my review, thank you for taking the time to read it and I hope you take it into consideration before deciding to or not to eat here.
I took my boys there for dinner, it was clean and sanitized. They made you feel welcome, the food is delicious. Well worth every dollar spent.
Very, very good. Excellent food, excellent service. Portion size was HUGE. Definitely worth money. Will visit again. HIGHLY recommend.
Tried Blue Star for the first time since moving to Welland. I have to say the food was absolutely amazing!! The customer service was outstanding. My family and I enjoyed every bit of our food. As someone who works in the industry, I would be more than happy brag about their service. They set a high standard!
I love this location but I found the food not as stellar as it once was. The counter staff are well trained and deal well with long line ups and giving info that food has run out.
Family restaurant. Home cooked comfort foods. Great prices large portions. Very friendly staff. Been going here since I was in the womb 34 yrs ago and have never found a dish I didn't like.
I'm from welland.. great establishment. Always steady customers and big portions. The owners have been dedicated for years. The waitresses are full of humour and laughter
Food never disappoints. Always yummy and ALWAYS tastes genuinely home cooked. Fresh. Turkey dinner and the trios are the best. The stuffing is fantastic in turkey dinner. Tastes just like the holidays except you can enjoy it any day of the year. :)
Absolutely the worst meal we ever had there. Food was cold, warmed up and brought back with parts still cold - ever had battered fish warmed up in a microwave? Disgusting !!! They charged 4 out of 10 guests for the salad part only ...$6 for a small side plate with lettuce, grated carrot and a cucumber slice .... So disappointing for a mother's day dinner
I am 90% sure that I have got food poisoning from this restraunt. I had the fish and chips and a salad (which the salad was served on a small PLATE and it came out overflowing). I dined here on good Friday and I am now showing the symptoms. It takes 48 to 72 hours to show symptoms. I am food handlers certified and am a cook my self. If I wasn't leaving for vacation today I would take it to the Niagara region health department to report this case. It is very easy to not cross contaminate raw with ready to eat food. I hope there is always one member of staff in the kitchen who has there food handlers all times. Not happy about this at all.
The service was good and the waitress was personable. Food came out fast and the wings were excellent. The stuffed peppers were really good as well. The food was hot and fresh. Typical dive bar food but not bad at all. Prices are very reasonable too.
Always good always friendly. Prices cannot be beat for quality and quantity. Highly recommend breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Food was decent. Average pricing. Waitresses forgot about us multiple times. And entire order was forgotten about and made for takeout for us on the house, which was nice. And 2 other orders were missing food... probably won't go back
Awesome. Best Liver and onions ever. Just like my grandmother made. Yummy gravy. It's my favourite place to order from
Good food, cabbage rolls, mexican pasta, boasted chicken, perogies, all yummy!decent staff depending who you get (might b a crackhead wrking there lol) lil costly but you get a ton of food ..if Johnny says jus give me "$10" and get outta here, kno that he jus made 3$ ha ha
Great friendly staff. Great variety on the menu. Food very good.
The turkey was great, and the take out was still warm.
I live in Hamilton but I came to port colbourne to take my grandfather out for thanksgiving dinner. I called Blue Star a week prior and made a reservation, they took my name & phone number and when I arrived at the restaurant - it was CLOSED at 5pm on a Sunday!!!! No sign on the door saying it was closed, no courtesy phone call saying they were closing early - just closed!! I was scrambled to find another restaurant to take my grandfather to in a city I don't know. I was HIGHLY disappointed in this service. Will not return or recommend.
Food is average... service was decent... found it kinda dirty... the build up of dirt/grime on the bathroom doors was significant...
We have been to the blue star and the service has been touch and go. Today we went for Brunch in the back area, as the front is closed before noon. The waitress was newer as I haven't seen her before. She took our orders for our drinks and then went to take other orders for drinks as other people arrived after us. While at the other table she also took there food order. On her way back past us I wanted to place our food order but she said she will be right back with our drinks. Well about 20 min later another waitress comes by to ask if we have been served yet we said no and we are still waiting for our coffees! While taking our order our waitress comes back without our drinks and continues taking our food order from where the other waitress left off. We finally place our order and our coffee's arrive about 30 min since we got there. While waiting for our food another table sits down and there drinks are given within 2 min. The table that ordered there food before us even though they came later has gotten there drinks long ago and are served there food. To make matters worse, the table that just sat down and got there coffee within 2 min received there food about 10min after ordering. It is now 45 min since we arrived and the waitress say's yours is coming up. We tell her that we are running out of time as we only had an hour for lunch and to box the food and bring the bill. When I ask the waitress why the table that just sat down had there drinks and food within 10min she tells be that wraps take longer. Well the table that received there food in 10min ordered two hot wraps and one of our orders was a cold vegi wrap the other there reg breakfast!! Clearly that was bs and the place wasn't even that busy when we arrived. It got busy while we were waiting so there is no excuse for our delay in service. Needless to say we will not be coming back to the blue star as a similar event occurred awhile back and this just sealed it for us.
At the last minute we called to get some meals for a couple in our community who was in need. Johnny had put together 8 meals for us in one hour!!! Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness!
Good food. Large portions and the prices are pretty good.
Decent food, but terrible service from 2 of the waitresses in the back restaurant today at 11am. Besides asking for milk 3 times for coffee and not getting it until the end of the meal, the 2 waitresses had serious off-putting attitudes, and seemed overall miserable. Honestly, we will probably boycott that restaurant permanently to avoid the toxic environment. Last thing you want in the morning while having your breakfast is to be subjected to sour behavior.
Wings were great, service wonderful we stayed talking and felt no rush to leave. All in all a fantastic time
Awesome food, awesome friendly service and of course Johnny ... great place to go and enjoy
The food was amazing and the service was so good ...I will be comming back..
We stopped in this morning for breakfast & it was a great meal, also I'd like to thank our awesome waitress Brianne ( I hope I spelled her name correctly ) she was very very pleasant young lady...we will surely be back ! Thank you again Brianne for making our day ...just sign us Western Omelet & the Cheese Omelet....
Great perogies and cabbage rolls. Placed an order for the first time for Christmas Eve and will definitely be ordering again (worth the drive) Also the service and staff were soooo friendly.
Amazing staff. Great food. Perfect for famlies. Kids can be kids and not get dirty looks.. thanks for the saxophone wistle. ????????
Wonderful spot for a delicious home cooked meal. My husband and I ended up eating here right after we got engaged (we moved to Welland that day and most places were closed) and so it holds a kind of homey and special place for us. We love eating here and we love bringing people here when they come to visit. We also love buying their frozen pirogies to have at home.
Good breakfast food and well priced. Their Jonas wrap is one of the best buffalo chicken wraps I've had.
I don't recommend the pasta. The spaghetti and bowtie pastas were both overcooked. There was no Alfredo sauce on the chicken alfredo; no cream sauce at all. Instead was oil. Lots of oil. The pasta was too greasy to eat with almost no chicken. The spaghetti noodles were bloated and smothered in a tart, almost bitter tomato sauce. We're not happy and won't reorder.
Excellent as always. Good prices, quality and quantity.
I have to say I was not impressed with the service or quality of food. I ordered a cocktail, and was served a warm drink with no ice, and no lime.( which was requested). We tried to order several different items off the menu and were told that " they didn't have the ingredient or were out of stock"
Nice place clean been around for years. If you are looking for yummy comfort food this is a great place to get it. They also have daily food specials.
The good is very well prepared and there is plenty of it. Their grilled home fries are great. Tony the tiger GREAT. Staff is the friendliest Thanks
Been going to this place since I was a kid, my grand father Williams Dennis favourite place. I still remember coming here when I was a kid with the family. Lots of memories, I hope this place never closes, love to being my future kids here
This place has excellent food and alot of dishes to choose from. Staff is friendly and do such a great job of Bustin tables.
It took me 5 mins to get noticed by the server. I got charged 1 extra dollar for the breakfast order but the potatos were still old. A well-done steak was served while I ordered it midium-rare. I work as a server at Madarin Niagara-falls and objectively speaking, the service was not bad since it was busy but it wans't satisfying either, the foods did not worth the price. Not coming again.
went in today for breaky with my buddies.....excellent food ...excellent service... we wore our masks... Johnnie and team did it up well ... had to sign in.. sanitizer at the door,,, well separated..one way in one way out... wait staff all wearing masks. safe distancing... it was well done ...no ketchup bottles ..individual items only... felt very safe to dine there..during this Covid-19 time
Great breakfast. Never feel like they are pushing you out the door. Lots of tables . Great service .BLT is wonderful!
Great food! Great staff! Great value!
Tried Blue Star for the first time today!! We ordered the Ukranian trio and the Taco Wrap! Delicious food and excellent customer service. Upon arrival I asked if I could add a tip with my debit transaction... The gentleman (I assume the owner) responded by saying "You placing an order is our tip"....I'll be sure to bring some cash next time. We will definitely be back
The Bluestar is really good at doing exactly what you should expect from a place like this. They are not a fine dining restaurant but this type of family owned and operated diner is just as important. I have eaten there literally hundreds of times over the span of my 38 years in welland. They put quality food out quickly and consistently. I would recommend this place for breakfast or lunch. The broasted chicken is some of the best around.
My husband and I have been fairly regular customers for 4 years. We give lunch and dinner 4 stars. Breakfast is always hit and miss. Went yesterday for brunch. Arrived around 11am. Waited over 20 minutes to get beverages. Took another 10 minutes to get our coffee and tea. Both were lukewarm. Another 15-20 minutes to order our food. It came promptly. Eggs were not done as ordered. Toast wasn't buttered. My breakfast was cold. Will not return. We have given this restaurant enough chances. We did have concerns one time while paying, and were brushed off. You have lost good customers.
Always friendly and clean. Great home style food at unbelievable prices. Their hamburgers are great!
Great little cosy place. Staff and management are amazing. Food was great. I recommend the cabbage rolls and the Broasted Chicken. However i had the grilled chicken club sandwich and it was awesome. Decent prices as well.
There are 7 reasons my family & I won't be returning to the Blue Star Restaurant. It would be a long review if I were to go into detail so I won't. I obviously wouldn't recommend anyone going there but if one does I don't think it would take long for one to figure out my 7 reasons. ✌
Great food great service, took all 6 of us, would go again
We ate here recently after getting a gift certificate on wag jag. The place is huge with two different areas. The menu is pretty extensive and everything looks good. My wife had the Reuben and fries which was huge and tasted great. I had the Blue Star trio which was good as well. The waitress brought us a cabbage roll on the house to try and it was the best I ever had. Prices are good for the amount you get, the drinks are very reasonable and the service great. Will be go back again for sure.
I'm not too sure about this place... The food is good but a few times I went in the place had a horrible smell, like nasty sewer... I couldn't even eat my breakfast because the smell was going to make me vomit.
This will be the last time I buy runny nasty pie from this place. What a joke!
The haven't been for years. Been back twice in a week! Great food, great selection. Yvonne is the best server yet! The rest are great too but Yvonne needs special credit for playing along with our group's shenanigans.
We use to go almost every weekend! Since moving away haven’t been often. But last time a couple of weeks ago food was good and service was good. I wish I could remover our servers name. Anyway it was very good
Always the most amazing food and service. I come here regularly
This is a very well established restaurant I remember back in the late 70's the front was a fish and chip take out where as in back was a sit down restaurant. A short time later no doubt to there excellent food and stellar service the back got much larger.
If you are looking simply to fill your stomach, Blue Star will do. However for the price - so would a&w. Food was exceptionally uncreative and basic, which in and of itself isnt a terrible thing - however the speed of service was paltry. Our waitress seemed to forget about the table for 20 mins, and food for a table of five was served in four different trips for the kitchen with about 3-4 min intervals between each trip. Several meals also came without items not specified on the menu (which is godawfully complicated to read by the way). I applaud the restaurant for the homegrown atmosphere, but it really falls short on the basics of what makes home cooked food worth it.
Nice sized portions, clean restaurant, excellent staff, great taste and value for the money. What more can one ask for?
Our daughter had her wedding reception at the Blue Star on Saturday and it was awesome. The food was fabulous, the cabbage rolls especially were to die for, homemade right on site. Their cook Brandon is amazing he made sure everything was perfect for Jillian's day. The wait staff were great, Marianne went out of her way to make the day special for Jillian. We arranged everything with Johnnie and he was so easy to work with. Thanks to everyone for making my daughter's day special.
Average diner food at breakfast. Service is good. have only been there for breakfast but they do offer lunch and supper. its about the last place I can find to get areal turkey club sandwich
Gone downhill since last visit. Didn't enjoy my meal. 5 star prices for 2 star food, disappointed.
Neat family diner in Weland. Food very good and staff pleasant. Our server also had a good sense of humour. Home style cooking and good variety of selections.
Discrimination as i cannot dine in due to vaxx pass. Thats same as saying "you are too fat and we cannot let you dine in" .... Or "im sorry you are blind and you wont see the menu so you cannot dine in"
Worst breakfast ever never again..sausages were freezer burnt...every thing was cold..toast..really ????
Really enjoyed this restaurant! Food was delicious and they have a great selection. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but the inside will surprise you! Nice family-friendly atmosphere. Service could be slightly improved though. Our drinks never were refilled during our meal and our server was not overly friendly, but It wasn’t a big deal. I would really recommend it. My Polish heart was very happy with the Slavic dishes on the menu. Cabbage rolls melted in my mouth and homemade pierogi were very good. Borscht was excellent. You won’t be disappointed!
I try to get there whenever I'm in Welland. Great food, great service.
Always have been happy with the food and service at Blue Star. The prices are good and the quantity is great. Good friendly people.
Great food, good service, use the bathroom somewhere else! I will be back,
People rave about this landmark......may be time to update?
Sausage was over cooked and freezerburn
If you carefully read this review and others in google, you WILL NEVER VISIT this place. These people use any kind of fraud that they can and their food quality is terrible. Service is also terrible. Waitress is the ugliest addict old woman and the cashier is the fattest mean guy you will ever see in your life. We were on vacation and bought two Groupun coupons for 11 dollar each. We were supposed to get $40 food with these coupons. It was 2:30pm. We entered and sat, and no one showed up. after 7 min, i looked around and saw a big sign in entrance "we are now closed; we will be happy to serve you for dinner on main dining room". So, before we left, i went to the end of salon and saw that they have another salon on the other side (but the entrance was the same one that we entered)!!... so, we sat and ordered $35 food (+ tax = $40). When the waitress brought the bill, one of the items had been priced higher (first fraud); i asked the waitress to bring the menu and she brought another menu!! (second fraud) and i said "i need the original menu that you brought for us" and when i showed her the right price she said "oh, the price has changed". Then, I showed her my Groupon coupons. she said she could not accept them as they were just for dinner and just one coupon per table. I had not seen any of those fine printed hidden conditions and when i had a better look, i realized these fraud people had put more than 10 conditions so that someone like us ignore or misunderstand some of them and the owner could force them to fully pay for the food (3rd fraud). Anyways, i asked the cashier to at least accept one of our Groupun coupons. He refused and said "if i do this for you, i should do it for every one" (at that moment i realized there have been lots of victims like us). After a lot of haggling, the waitress (who was worried about her tip) said "i could re-calculate the food based on dinner price which is higher and we may accept one coupon" she calculated and $40 dollar bill became $48 dollar!! (4th fraud; so, that is why these coupons are just acceptable for dinner, or maybe she just increased prices to play with numbers and confuse me) . I said, no thanks, and paid $40 dollar and left. What a terrible people and food! One day before that, we had a fantastic lunch in "Mick & Angelo's Eatery and Bar" with Groupun coupon. When you compare these two, Blue Star is like expensive junk food served by terrible disgusting people
The day before Christmas I travelled from Crystal Beach to the Blue Star to get some elderly friends of mine a Christmas dinner. I got there and they were out of mashed potatoes but they were so kind they made up a huge 9x13 deep foil container of perogi, chicken, turkey, dressing and the sides for the perogi. My friends had wanted a piece of coconut cream pie and some apple turnovers. They were out of the apple turnovers but these kind owners of the restaurant gave me a whole coconut cream pie for them. In my whole life I have never experienced such kindness. It brought tears to my eyes. I know what they charged was not near enough. When I delivered it they both cried. Bless them
Service is friendly , down to earth friendly. Not that fake kind of friendly you get at other places.
Just moved to welland. Tried alot from the area. Wasnt to impressed. Then i tried Blue star. By far one of the best places ive eaten at. Something for the whole family. Will be eatting there again!
As usual friendly and happy service
Been going since I was a kid. Great staff, delicious food. A treasure in Welland. Highly recommend for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Huge menu, and everything is home made! Takeout menu is fantastic!
Delicious food, generous portions and friendly staff
Great food! Service is friendly and usually pretty fast! Awesome place for breakfast and very reasonably priced.
We ordered the cabbage rolls and pierogies for takeout and both were terrific. Staff were very kind and helpful!
Comfortable, familiar place. A great place to eat for breakfast that everyone knows. I do not usually eat lunch and dinner here, so I can not speak about them. But for a "greasy spoon" breakfast place, this is classic and the food is good. Coffee is OK. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is just what you would expect, and for me, just what I want out of a breakfast place.
The blue star is a wonderful family restaurant! Wheelchair accessible, delicious food and very nicely priced! The staff is great and always pleasant also the owner is a sweetheart! Always have more than enough for any meal and always have a take home box. I highly recommend and will continue to come here.
The Blue Star restaurant is an icon in Welland, Ontario. I go there every time I travel to Ontario, which is only two or three times a year, but I never miss it. The food is fantastic, the staff is very friendly, and the prices are so much lower than what you would expect for the quality of the food you receive. If you want to have a fantastic place to eat at a good price, the Blue Star is the place to be.
This is a great independent restaurant that has been around for decades. To be in business that long you know they are doing things right. Can get extremely busy at times. Great food made on site as opposed to premade and then shipped.
Very clean dining area and the staff is very pleasant. I would definitely be Interested in their catering side sometime if the opportunity arises.
The food was amazing. The prices were great. Very up to date decorating in the restaurant. The facility was clean. The staff were very friendly.
Extremely Disappointed ! Came in and ordered wings as I love to try all restaurarants wings in the city to see who has the best . Compliments to the chef you make incredible SUICIDE HOT HOT HOT WIngs Wow ! But the server came over to us and said we are more a restaurarant than a bar and told us to leave ????? We had 4 beers and wings is that abnormal ? During a pandemic we choose to come support your establishment and you sent us away? we weren't loud / Rowdy / Obnoxious I'm unfortunately disappointed that your desicion was such your establishment had a great decor but your treatment of customers we won't ever be back.
Great meals.Hours are not the best for Breakfast. Should be opening at 7am, 8am at the lastest every day of the week.
Our server was wonderful! Cashier was also great! Portions not so great and have to pay extra to have hashbrowns with most of the meals that are already a bit higher in price. Polish sausage was very dry and regular breakfast sausage tasted a bit different from most.
Update... Everything has been great, food is fresh and delicious. Best place in welland to eat. Thanks for the great food Johny !
Excellent quality and reasonable pricing, definitely worth checking out when in Port Colborne
Always clean, always friendly staff and awesome food.
Good food. Had toasted club sandwich. It was really good. Nice staff there to. And you can dine in now.
Been going here since I was little, always good food. Had work staff meetings here. Very accommodating.
Delicious burgers! Great portions too, I was so full. Staff was friendly enough! Only bottled beers, I'm happy
Overall not terrible food. But the restaurant a very sluggish and to say the least un-charming waiters. Two boys, who seem to either be twins or the same person, feed me up with bull s*** every time i stop by. The owner isn't a bad person, but raised probably the 2 fattest human beings on this earth. Greasy, unappreciative little brats. I believe one of their names is Charles. A fat, sluggish, greasy, whale-looking prototype for a moron with 2 legs and 2 hands. Hopefully he isn't making the food as well, because i'm almost-sure, portions of each plate will be missing while he delivers it to each table.
breakfast is breakfast and has fed MANY MANY steelworkers shipmates and family's. justclike the blue faery the food is consistent for at least 4 generations. filling healthty and affordable. T
