Open and airy atmosphere. Good service and selection. Great for get togethers .
Came for oysters and drinks. Great experience. Good service and the baked oyster were delicious! Raw oysters were prepped perfect and the vinegar serviced along side was nice. A previous reviewer said The Dock was better for oysters.. I now have been to both and strongly disagree.
Had steak and frites and my steak was cold when it arrived at the table. The clam linguine that one of the others had looked good though.
Great service as always by Quinn for our weekly burger night.
Service
Great place for happy hour deals. Dollar oysters between 5-6pm. House wine is also $4. It is pretty dark in the restaurant. Overall vibe wasn't for me, regular priced meals are on the expensive side, and service was slow. Would return for the happy hour deal only.
Had a lovely dinner with my sister last night. Everything was so tasty. Fresh local ingredients and something for everyone. Great cozy atmosphere and the service was excellent.

Me and my business partner recently enjoyed their happy hour menu during a meeting. The buck a shuck oysters are great value, though the shells were a bit gritty. The tempura prawns were outstanding and the pork was incredibly flavored. Looking forward to our next outing there.
Happy hour deals are great and the food overall was good. However, I had a horrid black oozing muscle/oyster glob in my meal. This sort of ruined it for me, even as a lover of all seafood. Also my booth was so dark someone in my party had to use their phone light to read the menu.

Everytime I come to Victoria I make sure that we stop at Ferris Oyster bar. Where I love just about everything on the menu. Tom is a great guy and Sandy`s fudge desert is out of this world.I always get great service and being a foody I love the choices. We discovered Ferris Upstairs on our last visit. We were amazed!!! We plan to split our time between these two locations from now on. When we decided to try upstairs we let the server decide for us, that was a great decision. He brought things we would have never tried ourselves and along the way we were so happy with the choices, the waiter kept on checking that it wasn`t too much, we had very attentive and discreet service trhoughout and we had wonderful dining experience. We are so loking forward to get back there as soon as we can. Tom and Sandy you are the best !
I haven't been to Ferris' for many years, so I wasn't sure what to expect. There's a reason this restaurant stands the test of time. The service was fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the grilled salmon with crab risotta cakes. The dish did not disappoint. So yummy!! My friends had the prawn linguine, mushroom ravioli and seafood laksa. They also all raved about their meals. The heated outdoor patio provided a wonderful atmosphere for a really enjoyable evening.

Supergood! Great oysters! Had the albacore tuna which was great, seared to perfection! The drink specials were pretty legendary also!
So delish!!! We had the buck a shuck...sooo good!! Warm cauliflower was fantastic!! The whipped ricotta cheese dish was amazing...oyster soup was awesome...garlic shrimp, steamed mussels and shrimp...all fantastic!!!!
One of my top three restaurants in the city which in terms of value can't be beat. The nut burger is a personal favorite and the buck a shuck oysters is a close second.
Great food and service. Fresh oysters are delicious. Very nice ambience as well
Great oyster bar. Salmon burger, clam chowder and fresh berry lemonade were great. Danielle was a great server and her recommendations as well as service were amazing.
The food here was great, the atmosphere good and the music wasn't too loud indoors. Our server was Quinn who was extremely timely, polite and a great representative for the restaurant. I would highly recommend this place ????
Amazing food, best oysters in town, cool little backyard patio area. Come here every time I visit the island and always will.
This was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. It was a fantastic date night for us. We ordered the 4 course meal for two. Our server, Lana was delightful and great at her job. She was cheerful, professional, gave us great tips for our visit in Victoria, and we received impeccable service from start to finish. The food was incredible and the portions were perfectly sized for satisfaction. We would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone visiting Victoria!
Staff was friendly and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, cocktails are excellent and the food was spectacular. You have to check this place out.
Food was definitely above average. Service was very good.
Great fresh seafood and fantastic service!
Fantastic food, great staff, lovely atmosphere. Always recommend!
Excellent food - came with a group of 12 and waitresses were accommodating. Food was delicious, and staff were happy to split bill.
This is a great little spot in downtown Victoria! A cozy room with smallish tables but high dividers so you don't feel the proximity of your neighbours. Lovely wood paneling, antique cut and stained glass, a small patio out front, another in the rear (I think?) and more upstairs. Bonus points for original art on the walls for sale. This is not a tourist trap with over priced items cranked out with minimal effort, there is some good value here, unlike many of the water view spots nearby. The food here was classic west coast casual, tasty oysters are their specialty served with basic accompaniments (horseradish, cocktail sauce, a light minionette). They have a half-price oysters at happy hour deal 3-6pm for the early diners. Our table had: The west coast chowder which was loaded with seafood and topped with almost a half a loaf of bread for dipping in the creamy broth! A classic oyster burger on a nice bun, with fresh toppings and a pair of large cornmeal/panko crusted oysters, which were tender and juicy. This was paired with a kale Caesar salad which wasightly dressed but could maybe have had more anchovy and lemon for my taste but would be about all most people could handle. The classic fish and chips which was a large thick cut of cod, hand dipped and not over fried, the coleslaw was lightly dressed and fries are...fries! I'd love to come back to try the bouliabase, or one of the pastas as the way they handle the dishes I had gives me confidence that they know what they are doing. Don't miss this little gem!
Great burgers and mixed fries are fantastic. Great atmosphere, service and a good local businessman. The garden patio is fantastic.
Best seafood restaurant I’ve ever been to
A gem in the heart of Victoria. If someone asks me in the future where to eat when visiting Victoria, Ferris Upstairs is going to make the top of my list. Thanks Lilly for taking care of us during our visit! Amazing food and amazing service!
I've always wanted to try this place, and today was the day. It was fantastic! Great atmosphere, nice & quiet, and lots to choose from in the menu. The chicken burger was highly satisfying. I can't wait to come back and try other things!
Went out Thursday evening for a friends birthday, the food and drinks were all enjoyed! Barry was a great server and accommodated us, and was super friendly! Thanks for putting up with our noise!
It was our first and only day in Victoria. We decided to have lunch at Ferris’ according to the reviews. They have a very limited menu due to covid19. No oysters or steamed mussels. Prawn linguine with lemon sauce was extremely sour and below average. Fish and chips was ok. It may be a good idea to check if they launched their original menu before going if you will be there for good seafood. It was a disappointment for us. Environment is nice though.
We bump into it in total hazard. Really nice from start to finish. Great food. Small menu so everything is homemade, fresh and from reflexion! Will come back and recommend! Staff is great also.
My husband and I went to Ferris' recently for a date night. We love this restaurant for its delicious burgers, seafood dishes and local beer on tap! We haven't been out for dinner in so long and so we were expecting it to be amazing and we were not disappointed! The atmosphere was beautiful, our food was delicious and our server, Quinn, was so friendly and attentive to our needs. Thanks for a great night out!
Really love the happy hour. The patio is great place to people watch. The little gardens are pretty great too. Food is great and reasonably priced.
Was a favorite I've gone here many times and I've always loved the food and the service. This visit was at the end of the night so that may have something to do with my bad experience. My partners pasta was so spicy we had to have it redone ( and I like spicy). My muscles had too much white wine and not enough cream so instead of having a nice richness to the broth is puckered my mouth. Our order got mixed up. I had to ask to have my water glass filled and it was no quality check so we had to flag down our waiter to complain about the spiciness level. I will probably go back and try it again though as this is the first time I've had issues with this restaurant.
We have been to Vancouver, Seattle etc but this place has the best oysters ever
We had the mixed baked oysters, the smoked seafood plate, and octopus. All the dishes were beautifully prepared and presented and were really delicious. The oysters were big and juicy. We'd definitely come back.
Excellent Place to go...Good Vegetarian Options Great Service The food is Always Contemporary and Fresh, We always go Back!
Delicious food and great service. The baked oysters were superb.
Great food for oyster lovers. Be sure to hit up the happy hour for Buck a Schuck.
One of the nicer spots for hosting your cocktail party in downtown Victoria. I attended a work event here. The appetizers were amazing and the wait staff was nice and friendly. Drinks were good too.
A bit expensive but fantastically delicious!!! I think my favorite was the deep fried rissoto balls. The fresh oysters were also good. The indoor seating was also really nice for covid. They had plexi glass between the booths which might not sound good but it was actually quite impressive and looked pretty nice.
Came in looking for seafood. Sat at the bar and started chatting with the bartender about his recommendation. One was the oyster burger, which intrigued me. I went for it! It has a great blend of flavors and really was a pleasant and different option. Bartender was talking about his passion and this was when I found out that this is Ferris. They handle each guest as they are their only guest. I would highly recommend Ferris's place, and of course sit at the bar, he is an incredible individual.
This place is a true 5 star that you won't want to miss!! The lobster bisque is seriously to die for, and if you just come for a large bowl of that then your taste buds will be jumping for joy. The other dishes they have to offer are also exceptional and you'll be wanting to come back for more. Our group of 5 came to eat here 2 days in a row because we were so happy with everything Ferris' had to offer! Yum!
Great staff and great place. Good happy hour and we love our happy hours! Not from Vic but I first went here 20years ago and now 20 years later and probably just 20 visits the place is still reliable. Bring back the honey prawns with banana.
No stars for these guys sorry. Two adults and two kids sat with 1 menu for over 15 minutes before we were asked if we wanted kids menus. .what about the other adult at the table? We left before they asked for our drinks. Glad we did.
Every time I've gone to this restaurant, the service, atmosphere, and food have been phenomenal. Certainly a restaurant I'd reccomend in a heartbeat! (Assuming that whoever I was speaking to liked seafood, anyway.)
Best back terrance and happy hour in Victoria! Love Farris'
Had such an amazing night! Our host and server were great, we ended up having every appetizer on the menu. Would highly recommend to anyone.
One of my favourite restaurants in Victoria. Durning dinner hours they open up the upstairs level, which has a great atmosphere and a slightly different menu then downstairs which I prefer. They have great seafood but also lots of other choices. Every meal I have had has been great. Downstairs is a family friendly vibe, with choices for everyone. They also have bottomless soup for lunch and if you feel like fries make sure you get their rosemary gravy.
5-stars for the food & drinks - shrimp tempura was excellent, as were the oysters. Went for Happy Hour and the prices are fantastic. Service on the other hand was brutal. Terrible, actually. We were a group of four. My husband and I were seated first and said we would wait for the others in our party before ordering. A few minutes later (5 - 7, max),the rest of our group showed up. It was at least another 10 - 15, if not more, before our server showed up to take our drink orders. We didn't want to order food right way, but it was probably another 20 - 30 mins before we saw her again. At which point food was ordered and my husband ordered a second drink. Food showed up, drink didn't. I ordered my second drink and they brought my drink + my husbands (but he had ordered white wine, they brought red). When the bill came, they had put 2 glasses of wine (they only had beer) on our friends bill and 3 glasses on ours (even though we only had two). We said we would have one more drink and to add one more glass of wine to the bill. Nope. They brough the third and then we never saw our server again. We had actually planned on spending most of the evening there, but ended up leaving purely because of the service. Maybe next time (if there is a next time) will be better. Super disappointing.
Great happy hour place, various small dishes that pair well with wine, loved it!
The fresh shucked oysters were amazing and the burger with fries was the best I’d ever had! Great atmosphere and the service was fantastic, I think our servers name was Anne! I highly recommend!
A local organization I worked with planned a night of hors d'oeuvres to celebrate the completion of a mutual project. The food was delicious and space upstairs splendid.
Lovely menu and upscale atmosphere. Great cocktails and inventive menu
Meal type
Have to be honest! Great flavors, great service and just to add bit more the best smoked oysters in the world!!! If you are in the island for a few days and you do not try the smoked oysters, the chowder and the baked oysters you have not been in Victoria! FYI- the porsions are generous so I highly recommend people to go at least twice to try all mentioned above!
Fave place for food and drinks in Victoria, by far. Great staff, menu items, and atmosphere. It's all about the atmosphere.
Wonderful food and great atmosphere... This place was recommended by somebody who works in the restaurant business in Victoria, and it didn't disappoint. I'll be back!
Wow wow wow. I bright my mom in twice for buck a Schuck. I had to. Our server was great. I wish I remembered her name but she remembered us the second time. Wonderfully experience. I'll be back asap
Ferris' has been around a while. It's practically a landmark for locals. Inside is a cozy Victorian atmosphere. A good place for a quiet meal with a friend or significant other. It's well known for serving fresh oysters and accompanying drinks. We went recently and had its seafood salsa and cod fish and chips. The food was competent but not thrilling. Fish was small and fries abundant. The laksa was interesting but not really laksa. The price was a little more than what the food we had was worth. However if you went for oysters and drinks you'd be happy.
This used to be one of my favorite places to eat, but sadly since Tom Ferris passed away the food quality has gone downhill and they also took some of the best dishes off the menu. I won't be going back again.
Came for the start of happy hour and was able to be seated quickly. The buck, a shuck oyster deal was the draw as we love oysters and it fit our bill. You do need to pay extra for fixings, but it did come with lemons. We also had the fried smelt (small fish) that was really good with the dipping sauce. It was the perfect "snack" for us with a couple or drinks, including a pretty good Caesar
Service was great! They were super accommodating of my gluten and dairy allergies. Defiantly a spot of fresh seafood. The oysters were great, steaks cooked perfectly.
Great oysters and mussels! Oyster burger is a must try.. Would be better if they have a heater underneath the table!
18 years I've been a patron. It's my default go to place if i can't decide. The most consistent place in town that you always fills you up.
Excellent Oysters, delicious seafood at a good price. Highly recommend the Seafood Ceasar.
The food and service were good, stuff was fresh and well made plus the prices are really good, its a good place for a casual meal one thing tho their floor are very greasy so I recommend a better floor cleaner, it felt really slippery there.
I really want it to be wonderful. I feel Iike the reputation is so good. It it just falls short. And $22 for pasta? That's just silly.
Came here for happy hour and did do a reservation. $1.50 per oyster special was well priced but quality was just average. Overall quick service and helpful staff made it a solid 4.
The service was great, we had an infant with a stroller and they accommodated us without problems. The food came quickly and was delicious.
I ordered a Seafood chowder and Bouillabaisse and got lost counting how many times I said “It’s so tasty!” while I was eating these super delicious meals!! Excellent food, great service and adequate prices. Will come again and again. ❤️
Nice service, but I’ve been here twice now and poor quality oysters have made it not worth the venture.
Please stop shucking oysters from the wrong end. Please. It completely destroys the oyster and puts so much shell in there. It makes the oysters appear unappetizing and completely dismantled. The staff are alright but can be rude and cold to customers. Regular menu is great but if you go to happy hour you might end up with some extra calcium in your diet.
Went for happy hour. It was Great! Staff was very friendly. Food and drinks came out really quick and were a fantastic price. Will certainly be back!
Went for dinner with a group of girlfriends. We all left disappointed. The food was sub par and the service was terrible. My meal was cold and the falafel was very dry. They messed up my friend’s order and another’s pasta was so peppery she couldn’t eat it. There was a mishap with the bill, which is fine because we were all paying separately. When we told the server he redid it and it was still wrong. I was really looking forward to dining here and don’t think I’ll go back after my experience.
Lovely atmosphere but the food quality seems lacking. We had the pulled pork burger (pork was dry and over salted) and the Moroccan lamb burger (which was rather plain) both of us had the Caesar salad which was wilted and warm. His was under dressed and mine was overdressed. Definitely had a better experience upstairs.
Awesome restaurant with buck a shuck oysters at happy hour. The bottom of the restaurant has good food and in my opinion is a far better value than the restaurant upstairs.
The food is consistently good and it is my go to place to take company if they love seafood. The entire menu is delicious and you can't go wrong ordering. They have a seafood caesar drink that has a prawn and an oyster. Yum!
Great job on creating a comfortable and safe ambience. The food is spectacular, of course. We are so happy to be able to return. Thank you.
I like the squid / octopus that we ordered to share. I ordered the salmon risotto, the salmon was a bit dry but it's acceptable. My friend's steak was surprisingly good, and we all love the potato side they made, I have to steal a bite from my friend's plate (I wish I have a photograph of it)
Good food! And lots of good wine!
Great food, great staff! I love that you can get any meal with no side and save a couple bucks; it's always too much food for me.
Amazing food and amazing service first time in Victoriavans a great dinner experience
Great salmon and halibut! Oysters good but small for the price. Good house white wine, but not a $40 bottle quality. We had to have white because it was very warm in there. Would go back.
Food is great, service is better. Highly recommended!
Absolutely lovely place with a fantastic kitchen and amazing service. A must if you love seafood.
Yum yum! Great wine choices, fresh oysters and I really enjoyed the smoked seafood share plate.
Cheap oysters at happy hour and a decent size. Friendly service.
The BEST delivery I've ever had. I've ordered delivery from Ferris twice now and both times the food was steaming hot and fabulous. Seafood laksa is so delicious.
Great 1 buck oysters. Tasty and inexpensive house white wine. All goes well with a large bowl of crispy french fries.
Absolutely fabulous. Oysters were fantastic, I had bouillabaisse for dinner which was wonderful. Highly recommend this place and atmosphere.
It was delicious food and amazing service. Feels like home, every time I go.
One of those must try places in Victoria. The seafood was fresh and chowder was delicious. Beautiful back garden patio! Great happy hour as well!
Staff is very friendly and very accommodating, service is very fast, place is cozy, patio has heaters, price is very reasonable, food is very good as well. Simple a great place to have a good bite and enjoy the happy hour with friends. Recommended to tourist!
They had no record of our reservation upstairs and the host acted as though we were lying, he was extremely rude. We managed to get a table downstairs, food was good. The wooden benches were terrible, I don't know maybe some cushions? Our server was quite nice but the guy delivering the food was a major jerk and just threw our food down on the table amongst the dishes that were piling up because they are so understaffed. We are pretty reasonable people but waiting half an hour to pay the bill is unacceptable in my opinion. I have to mention that my back and everyone else's I was with have aching backs because of those terrible benches, if you are going to take 3 hours to serve a meal I suggest not torturing them with the most uncomfortable seating I have ever seen! I won't be going back and I suggest you don't either
Their recent happy hour menu just improved with some new interesting options; oysters were better than previous year, which is great . I loved the mushroom mousse and baguette. Mussels ( not on the special menu) in white wine were good, but they were not always the SSI honey mussels..Oyster burgers and falafel burgers were good too.
This place was awesome!! Even though our table wasn’t quite ready on time (we waited at the bar for a little bit), the staff was SO friendly and still made our experience great! The cocktail and wine selections were delicious, oysters were amazing (sad that we couldn’t come during buck a shuck happy hour because I would have eaten so many! ????), mains were perfectly cooked and tasty… Very worth it ???? I will definitely be coming back and recommending friends to Ferris’!
Highly recommend! Great food!
Awsome food...good prices...great staff
The Upstairs of Ferris' is THE best seafood restaurant in Victoria. The atmosphere, service and food is all divine. There isn't an elevator but they were very kind to accommodate my 90 year-old grandma and help her up and down the stairs. Otherwise, I would have given them a 5. Love the canadiana art as well.
Great happy hour place. Buck a shuck oysters were awesome with Fanny Bay and Denman Islands when we were there. Service was awesome as well.
Amazing clam chowder! Everything was great, highly recommend.
Almost got food poisoned today with couple oysters that totally went bad. All other oysters we ordered were also not fresh at all either. Horrible experience and will never go back.
Appearances can be deceiving. Pretty rustic but great food
The food here is always awesome. Some interesting unique dishes that are delicious.
Ahh Ferris. Bueller...Bueller....Bueller. (Sorry, couldn't resist) Ferris is Absolutley amazing! Food is outstanding the atmosphere is casual yet very comfortable and paired to the quality of food. I've visited Ferris four times already and it just keeps getting better! Thank you Ferris! You guys nail it every time!
Dinner
Ordered for take out. Great burgers and delicious fries. When we called in our order the staff member seemed keen on dissuading us from ordering because they were "really busy" and we'd have to wait 40 minutes for our food but it was totally worth the wait.
Ferris Oyster Bar hosted our party of 45 people and we had such an amazing dinner and evening! The evening was executed perfectly with no glitches or mistakes. The staff was really friendly and attentive throughout the evening making sure everyone was taken care of. The food was so delicious and cooked to perfection, with really good portion sizes. We started with some canapes and had a set menu with a choice of 3 appetizers, choice of 4 entrees and dessert. The standout selections were definitely the seafood chowder and the tuna crudo for appetizers - they were packed with flavour! The entree included a filet of salmon on top of a crab risotto, which was a really popular choice that everyone loved and raved about! The other standout dishes were duck confit and a beef tenderloin with a beef short rib, which were both very tender and juicy! Great atmosphere, delicious food, would definitely go back again or have another party there as well. Would recommend this restaurant!
Food just isn't good. It wasn't busy but service was dismal. Our server ignored us (didn't refill waters, take plates away). Also accidentally tipped some food on the table and put it back on our plate with her hands. Uh no thanks.
Service
Good food, ambiance and service. Child friendly. I have never been disappointed here.
OK food, great service (as is a habit in Canada it seems). Great version of a Ceasar (the drink)
Great food, booth was a little small, great atmosphere. The waiter was rude and snooty but otherwise a great dining experience
Excellent experience! Our server, Katie, was kind, attentive, efficient, and had great recommendations. Highly recommend!
Good quality food and service unfortunately the meal is very expensive for the size given. For a better deal it seems that down stairs is way better.
Wonderful. Five plus stars! One of the reasons we are moving back to Victoria! We seriously love this place and the nickname shuck happy hour is not ti be missed.
I loved this place. They have truly original items in their menu, just perfectly simple and tasty. They don't make things over complicated but master the cooking of meat or fish, use good ingredients, and know how to combine things into delicious dishes. Their $74, 4 course meal for 2 people made me and my wife really happy.
Great food, west coast chowder is awesome, server Cora was great and friendly.
Food was amazing there! We ordered two sea food dish and the flavour and was on point. This was a cute place and the service was nice.
Superb menu despite a reduction in offerings due to COVID-19. Brian and Benjamin couldn't have been more helpful and super personable with their knowledgeable recommendations and humour. Everything was excellent. We opted for 2 appies and the baked oyster trio. Perfect choice and just the right amount of food. Thanks for a great evening. We'll be back and will recommend you highly.
Our dishes were tasty and we'll proportioned. Service was good and prompt, but a little pushy about ordering more wine and drinks.. we ordered wine to come with the entrees and three times they wanted to start pouring it early, even though we said to please wait. The tables were also incredibly packed together given Covid, but they had the windows open and it was after the start of the vaccine passport so not a big deal but definitely felt odd after the last 1.5 years.
Got away for a 4 day getaway and this is the best place we ate hands down
We are regular visitors to all three establishments and are generally pretty happy with the food and service. We visited on Sunday and went upstairs, unfortunately there was no table for about half an hour, we were offered a bar seat while we waited for a table . We asked if they could call downstairs to see if there was a table there..nope. he said he had no idea what was going on down there and couldn't call. 1 of us went to find out and got a table downstairs. Great except they had 1 server who was run off her feet and couldn't keep up with the dinner rush. The bar tender would deliver drinks for her eventually but really he was just rough all around. We waited awhile for her to take our orders and getting another round of water and wine took ages. Really unhappy with the service and performance of the staff.
Amazing! Lyandra is fantastic. Have been dreaming of the chocolate brownie ever since I went. Will definitely return!
Friendly service and good food, but the restaurant was very cold inside :S
Awesome seafood place for oysters and clams! Not cheap but you can tell the oysters are the best quality, and super fresh. $2.5 each but so creamy and plump, with a little bit of brininess. Clam dishes are worth going for as well. However, the clam linguine at $24 feels overpriced, as the pasta itself is just OK. Very cheesy, so if you don't like cheese don't go for this or ask for no cheese. Place is a bit loud due to all the tables packed together. Mood and lighting is romantic, but in a casual sort of way rather than white tablecloth way. Happy hour from 5-6pm daily! $1 oysters and one other food dish I can't remember. Slightly pricey (hence the 4 stars) but you do get quality here.
Recommended by a friend fr Vancouver. We were greeted at the door pleasantly, very accommodating host, we were seated at the oyster bar section, another section is the tapas bar. Good ambience, with some really nice art work on the brick wall, with an open kitchen where there’s also chairs where you can sit. We were seated by the window, and we have a very nice and accommodating server, her name is Lilly. She’s very nice and can joke around. It was a nice experience dining in this restaurant, Highly recommended. Thank you for the great hospitality and for the great food! We will be back!
Very good seafood. Had an incredible tuna sashimi, a rather bland shrimp ceviche and oysters (husband lived them). Good atmosphere...cozy.
After an abysmal experience with dinner at Swiss Chalet, my partner and I decided to head back downtown to check out one of the only places in Victoria which served crème brûlée. No exaggeration, the crème brûlée and a simple chocolate brownie were enough to almost completely save our evening. It's amazing how a little care and attention and decent quality ingredients...and chefs who know what they're doing can impact one's dining experience. I've eaten here before and never been disappointed. This was my partner's first experience at Ferris's, and I think it's safe to say we'll definitely be back to try other entrées. Thank you, Ferris's! Thank you for turning around what started out as a very negative evening out.
Awesome happy hour and from someone who’s still trying to learn to like oysters...they have really good ones there. Patio is gorgeous and outdoor heaters were greatly appreciated! Service was great as well...would recommend!
Solid seafood restaurant with excellent service!
Had the mussels to start .... amazing! Finished with the Canadian beef 8oz bavette, best choice ever!!. The corpse revival cocktail was great, however expensive. Service - exceptional - we totally clicked with our server. Overall, my favorite restaurant in Victoria to date. They could stand to have a better beer selection however this doesn't diminsh the experience.
The perfect intimate spot for a date/celebration/gathering. Upstairs has a great vibe with exposed brick walls, wooden rafters and Canadiana art work. We like ordering a dozen oysters mid week as a fun outing! Enjoy!
Delicious local establishment that has been a cornerstone of Victoria's restaurant scene for many years. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere.
Great service, decent prices, and a nice patio.
Aweful fishy tasting pan fried oysters, we couldn't eat any of them. Terrible seafood Laksa, almost all shellfish and prawns in the dish were bad. You get better quality seafood from Costco. Fish & chips were acceptable. We did tell our waiter about the poor quality seafood and they took it off the bill. All I have to say is there's nothing like a bad tasting oyster, it stays with you.
Food was fantastic and it was a lovely day to be on the patio. Staff was very pleasant. Management responded quickly and professionally to my minor service complaint. I have been there before and I look forward to my next visit in a few weeks
Fantastic place! Cioppino was excellent with generous seafood portions. Rear patio was cozy. More casual than the upstairs restaurant.
been coming here for decades always fresh food and lots of it...good prices to match....home of the original sweet potato fries
Great seafood! Food was fresh and tasty. Service was excellent. Could use a few more options for sparkling wine on the list.
Nice place. Was quite when I went. Staff were friendly.
I love the menu, the ambience, and the decor. The service can sometimes be a little spotty, but most of the time it's good. The food is always fantastic and there are always multiple options for a vegetarian, which is a rarity.
Our favorite oyster spot. Recommend sampling boldly from the baked oyster selection.
If you like happy hours there buck a shock for oysters is a good deal the food on the main menu is delicious and the staff are friendly and helpful .
Great service, staff and menu. The seafood was incredible and the price were fair.
Service
Ferris’ is a fantastic little spot that’s become my go-to when in Victoria. A fantastic selection of oysters and other dishes in a quaint little spot upstairs. On my most recent visit we enjoyed the set menu with wine pairings as part of Dine Around Victoria and were very pleased with all the dishes offered and the service was fantastic as always. Definitely recommend a reservation as it’s a small place!
I decided to have my birthday at Ferris' Grill, and there were several aspects that made the experience rather underwhelming, unfortunately. First of all, I booked the reservation far in advance to ensure that we would get a seat on the patio. The restaurant called me a day before saying that we were being bumped to the atrium, which was nowhere near the same experience. I ordered the shrimp carbonara which only had 4 small prawns which was underwhelming for the price I paid. My friend ordered a burger with no tomato, and it still came with tomato. Our server was rather unfriendly and not personable. This was very unfortunate given that we came mid week when the restaurant was not packed. It was also my first time visiting this restaurant and I'm uncertain if I would go back.
Absolutely amazing oysters, appetizers, drinks and desserts. There are many options for everyone here. Great service and a beautiful restaurant.????????
My GF and I love this place, great ambience and even better food.
Enjoyed the happy hour items and the dinner dishes. Fish and oysters were very fresh and well prepared.
We lucked out getting a table last minute after someone cancelled. Great service and ambience. Food was excellent, my sister had the smoked seafood platter and I had a delicious bullaibaise. They had a nice wine list and we enjoyed a great BC wine. Would come back next time we visit!
This is a controversial review for me to write, because this restaurant gave me both good and bad impressions in my experience. To begin with, the food was delicious, you're going to enjoy very well prepared dishes, specially if you order the seafood dishes, they are simply amazing. Staff is also super helpful, kind and friendly. The dishes are expensive, but you expect this from a touristic-located restaurant and the quality makes up for the high price. However, the thing that annoyed me most was the long waiting times for absolutely everything. I came to have dinner at 6:15PM and left at 9PM!! Almost 3 hours to serve an appetizer + 2 main dishes (me and my wife) + 2 beverages + 1 dessert + bill?!?! This alone makes me not wishing to come back anymore. Hire more waiters/waitresses!!
(Ferris Upstairs) Ate dinner here recently with a group of 10 and had a great experience. We ordered two bottles of wine from their wine list which were reasonably priced. We shared a plate of oysters which were fresh and delicious with a great sherry mignonette. We split multiple appetizers and a few members of our group ordered main plates and enjoyed them as well. All the food was excellent! I know I had a good meal when I think about the food the following day and I definitely thought about the k.f.o and grilled Humboldt squid. Our server was very kind and accommodating and the atmosphere was lovely. Looking forward to eating here many more times!
Dine in
We were really looking forward to dinner at Ferris' seafood and oyster Bar. However were hugely disappointed. For an oyster bar the oysters were the size of small clams. Very disappointing. When we questioned the server she said that is the size of that breed of oyster and after we looked it up ourselves that wasn't true. The second course was the seafood bouillabaisse which was a can of plum tomatoes mixed with seafood. There were 2 whole tomatoes in my soup. In summary, waste of money and an overall lack of quality and care. Would not recommend Ferris' oyster and seafood bar to anyone.
I have been going here for almost 2 decades every time I visit Victoria. One of my favourite restaurants anywhere. Consistently delicious, consistent great service.
Ferris food and staff is amazing. This is my favorite place to eat in all of BC! The staff are pleasant, personable and wonderful. Anne has, on several occasions, had to act as my personal counselor as she has been forced (by me) to listen to my woes. When I am having a bad day, Ferris staff (and food) cheers me up. I do not know what I would do without my weekly Ferris trips. Ferris is a wonderful venue with amazing food, staff and great ambiance. Anne is the greatest person I have met In Victoria.
All the food was phenomenal. Staff was awesome
This was an unexpectedly amazing find! We ate dinner here a few weeks ago and enjoyed it immensely. We shared the 3 course tasting menu, and everything was mouth-wateringly delicious. The ricotta with honey was sooo good. And the cauliflower mountain was literally the BEST cauliflower dish we have EVER eaten, with so many layers of flavour. I'm still dreaming about it.... THEN we had the steak... oh my goodness... I hesitate to tell you about it, because then everyone will be wanting it! We had a sweet little corner table near a window in the back, and a great server, who had a fun sense of humour, and was great with her timing of bringing and clearing items. One of the best meals we've had in ages!
We sat out on the patio. It was a bit cooler but the staff turned on the patio heaters. They were super attentive. Our server was great....very personable and knowledgeable when we asked questions. I ordered the raw oysters....amazing! And followed up with the clam linguine....also amazing. Our table also ordered the jambalaya, boulibasse, baked oysters, roasted garlic and chicken linguine and no complaints there! We followed up with a couple of desserts. I loved the ambiance, the service, and the food! Will definitely go back!!!
Amazing service and great food. We loved the art they had on display, as well. Will be back for sure!
Excellent place with amazing oysters. Great service, great wine, great food :) must try !!
The food is wonderful. Fresh oysters and great drinks. The back patio is like a little slice of heaven right in town.
Amazing food! So tasty! A little bit of a wait to get in but overall great experience. Nice selection of local beers. Oysters were delicious. Grilled salmon, crab and scallions arancini and pea puree was so good!
We must have bad luck. Unfortunately, ever time we give Ferris' a try we have such terrible service. From incredibly slow service for drinks (waiting 30 for a beer) and food, wrong orders & cold food. Yet we have have the opposite experience when we go to Ferris' upstairs. I would highly recommend going upstairs for a meal instead!
Super friendly and quick food AND beverage service! They held aside a table for our group of 5 after giving them a call - really appreciated on a sunny Sunday as we were all leaving work. $1.50 a shuck oysters were to die for, with all the fixings. Happy hour snacks and drinks are amazing prices and delicious, large portions. Didn’t catch our servers name but her, the bartenders and the support staff were all amazing. Will be returning ASAP!
Wow! This place blew me away!!! The flavours were deep and delightful. I had the octopus appetizer with the trout on Israeli couscous. Chocolate cake for dessert. All excellent choices. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. We will definitely go back!
My first visit to Ferris upstairs was amazing. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is chill. I tried the smoked fish plate with two Caesars. Highly recommend Ferris upstairs. ????????
Love, love, love Ferris! The staff are always super friendly and great with my toddler. I can always expect fast service and great food. The chicken penne soup is a regular craving!
A classic Victorian venue. Good variety on the food and drink menu and a must stop if you like oysters. Funky interior and patio with great food. Good sized portions and good service.
Fresh or Fried, by far the best Oysters in Victoria. We also love the dumpling soup - great on a cool day.
Breakfast on a Saturday morning was really special with unusual takes on Eggs Benedict and Omelettes. Waitress (Jasmine) was very helpful with advice on other attractions in Victoria. We enjoyed it so much, we went back for Sunday dinner and it was a Tapas event with several small dishes making up a delightful meal. We ordered several of the recommended seafood items and they were all fresh and wonderfully flavoured. The oysters were local and very fresh, opened as we watched. We would highly recommend this restaurant ... the service was exceptional and the food delicious and reasonably priced. If we are back in Victoria, we'll be back!
I've been going to Ferris' for almost seven years now and the food is consistently excellent and the portions are consistently large for what you pay. I've never had something there I didn't like, except oysters, oddly enough (I dislike oysters)
Portion, price, seafood - a rare find Went online to find seafood while in town for a conference - budget traveller, this place looked priced right but would the portions and quality be on point? YES. The seafood chowder (bowl) was SO rich and filling ( with seafood, not starchy or filled with potatoes) - this was unbeatable value, portion, price. The oysters are buck a shuck 3-5pm and I arrived a little early. I was going to order the regular dozen (still well priced at $27) but the waiter - in what I marvel at real integrity - shared the oysters were the same and to wait for 3pm. Impressive, he could have just sold me the more expensive option. Lastly, the quality : The $15 mussel AND clam app was outstanding and came with perfectly crispy bread. Perfection, look at my picture. As a tourist this is all I ever hope for in a city. Seafood at a good price and well portioned. Also, beautiful patio!
Great service, the food was really good, enough flavours and variety, I would definitely recommend!
Food was good (had a tastey falafel burger deconstructed into a salad) but prices seem to be climbing according to a friend. Service was off, not sure if it was a one-off occurrence but the server didn't seem thrilled to be there nor interacting with our table.
Best buck a shuck in town! Alexa is very friendly and knowledgeable. I'd recommend sitting at the bar for an amazing experience!
We joined for happy hour! It was good! Wasn’t overly impressive nor was it bad! Wouldn’t mind dropping by again if I were in the area for happy hour
Sophisticated flavour profile, good portion... lovely ambiance and awesome service. would definitely return
This place is a pillar of Victoria! The food and staff are amazing. If your visiting Victoria this restaurant is a must!!!
The food is good, but our service lacked. The seating in the booths is not comfortable. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere.
Loved happy hour with the $3.95 pints. Try the porcini mushroom & pecan pate. So good! Oyster burger is great too as a regular meal. Best in the city of the ones I tried!
good food, good drinks. service not so much. We asked for the private room. Staff gave it away with no apologies to us. We got loud (as a large group does). Waiter told us to use our inside voices. I was NOT impressed and DON'T like being chastised like a child. One of our group is hard of hearing which is why we're loud. It's pretty insulting to be asked to keep it down when they don't know the full circumstances. Also, the table we were seated at was too small for our large group and it wasn't easy for me (with mobility issues) to get in and out of the table. Probably won't ever go back or recommend.
Horrible. I placed an order through SkipTheDishes for them based on their rating. The rating did not match the product. For 20$ I received 9 pieces of uncooked, gritty pasta. When I contacted them after receiving the order, I left a voicemail asking to be called back. I was not. When I contacted them again, I was put down while they directed my call, overhearing the scorn as I was passed along. They explained that it was standard, and couldn't explain what happened - but no follow-up or make good. Never again will I waste my money here, and I highly recommend you save yours. Spend your time, money and attention elsewhere.
I'm from the prairies, so seafood is still a bit new to me. The general consensus from the people we were visiting on Vancouver Island was to eat at Ferris' and try the oysters. We did, but the best dish we had there was the "Pacific Rim" bowl, though the oysters were good too. If I'm back in Victoria again I won't be leaving without visiting this place first. Even the service was great!
All I can say is that the chicken soup is goddamn legendary. You will have confused feelings- because up until that moment your Mom was the sole source of such goodness. Not anymore.
Meal type
I've lived here for 7 years and regret not frequenting sooner; definitely in my top 5 places in Vic. The Lablabi is phenomenal, the Seafood Laksa is incredible, clam chowder amazing. Servers / service friendly, professional and quick. Easy recommendation to anyone coming into town or to people like me who somehow have missed this great spot to eat.
Amazing food, great drinks and super friendly wait staff!
I love this place. Good prices, great good, friendly service. Their happy hour oysters + drink specials are incredible and their regular menu is just as good. Also, top notch whiskey sours.
Veggie nut burger... There are no substitutes. Well added yam fries are pretty good too haha! Love Ferris'!
Nice serving staff, host quite rude, and gives off a snobby vibe. Gave this place multiple opportunities, and have consistently gotten oysters filled with shell pieces.
Been going to Ferris' since late 1990s when I first moved to vic and each time I have visited ever since. Always a "go to" haunt for me. Sadly, the nostalgia is wearing off with simply poor service poorer communication, and an inability to get a decent fricken table. Three times in a row now I've scored the worst seat in the house. Tonight it was despite making a reservation and leaving early, bypassing 3 empty dueces on the way out. Time to discover what's new and exciting in this town. Two stars for what Ferris used to be. I really do miss that old joint.
Really good seafood and excellent service thank you.
Amazing Place! Historic building, good service, fresh food, nice menu and reasonable (high) prices. Great location directly downtown.
Maybe the best dinner spot in Victoria. Unique menu, and the owner is regularly on the floor making the atmosphere fun and one of a kind. A must stop for any tourist.
We were from out of town, looking for a nice place to have a quality meal. Shockingly everything tasted stale and oily yet expensive. Kids pizza was literally inedible, frozen pizza would have been better. This was hands down one of the worst meal we had in a long time. Do your research before hand, don't trust the raving reviews!
My husband and I are honeymooning in Victoria, and we went up to Ferris’ upstairs seafood and oyster bar for dinner tonight. Everything was perfect! Spent a good long while, and took our time with the amazing meal. Cocktails were excellent, the food was incredible, and Tess’ service was on point. She gave us perfect recommendations all night, very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Both our meals had a very generous serving of shellfish- way more than you usually get in a dish. It was our favorite meal in Victoria so far!
Delicious food and nice patio!
Absolutely excellent oysters and selection of food on the menu.
Delicious oysters of all concoctions, good wine list, great location. We sat in the sun all afternoon. You must take advantage of happy hour! So worth it.????
Best Seafood Place I've ever been too
Butuful place to visit, delicious food. Very recommend!
Happy hour fresh Oysters are outstanding, they melted in you mouth wait staff is exceptional, chicken pate was superb, I'm very happy with my dinning experience
This morning at 10 AM a beautiful Mother’s Day brunch arrived! Yet there’s food here for four days! The lox eggs benny with gf potato latkes is heavenly! The lox melts in my mouth... the capers are almost crispy, the Benny sauce with dill is perfecto!!! Where do u find GF buns that are soft and Scrumpdillyicious like this? Tonite I’m having rockfish with Artisan salad can’t wait! Oh and I must say the chocolate covered strawberries are divine plus I have a 500 ml container of a lovely fruit salad! I feel so lucky!!!
Amazing food, great service, nice environment
Happy hour menu worth a stop! Pate and mushrooms was very yummy for a vegan dish. Shrimp rempura was standard with extra spices and a mango dip which didn't really have too much mango flavour. Oysters were creamy and tasty. Pesto baked oyster was good but slightly too oily for my taste. My strawberry mint gin drink was straight forward.
We had the laksa, Korean chicken burger and the chowder and all were delicious. The chicken burger was crunchy and full of flavor, same with the chowder. Staff was friendly and quick.
The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. Delicious oysters. Can’t beat the price for happy hour. And the expresso martinis were the best!
Service
Fancy-ish place, great drink selection. My Very Italian was delicious, I actually had a couple. My friend’s salmon burger looked awesome (she said it was great) and the shrimps were tasty if not drowned in butter. Oysters were fresh however shucked too fast I believe? There was bits of shell all over. Like in all of them. Otherwise this would have gotten a 5 stars from me.
Really nice atmosphere, the wait staff was very nice and knowledgeable. After quite some time not eating out and working on our own personal cooking skills, we were a bit disappointed with the quality of the food.
The bouillabaisse and warm crab/wild Salmon dip are to die for.
Go for happy hour and stay for dinner. Oysters were spectacular.
What an amazing place. The best oysters I've ever had, great wine and service, super cool decor and just exquisite staff- knowledgeable, courteous, impeccable and unobtrusive but with perfect timing.
Updated. I wish they were scanning QR codes. I would have given them a 4 because the Korean chicken burger was good. Fries were well seasoned and hot. I hope they sort themselves out because. Wouldn’t want to see this place shut down.
I only ordered raw oysters as that was my intentions. The husband ordered other things and thoroughly enjoyed it. 7/8 oysters tasted absolutely fantastic. Then I had 1 that was really gross. Like it lived next to the sewer or something. I didnt get stomach pains, but that particular one was hard to swallow. In this picture, the bad one was the round plump one on the bottom. I will never forget that taste, or this picture... haha
still one of the best restaurants in Victoria!
Best place in Victoria for rustic ambiance and amazing seafood.
Absolutely tremendous food! The staff was wonderful and extremely friendly, with them making honest suggestions for food and drink pairings. The pricing was reasonable for the level of quality too.
What a joy to be warmly welcomed on a cold wet afternoon earlier this month. We had the fish chowder sitting outside on the patio where we were warm and dry thanks to shelter, heater and a blanket. Everything was perfect and the service as always was excellent.
Oysters served any way there is,the clam chowder is the best I ever had
Have been going here (downstairs) for years and almost always order the Cioppino soup. Great prices and centrally located downtown. I will continue coming here!
Food here is consistently good! Awesome service and a good ambience here. Oyster burgers are my fav!
Ferris' is always a special meal. The whole experience sets the bar for me every time. The food and the service is incredible.
Excellent food and wonderful service, Quinn was friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt with service and maximizing our happy hour! So appreciated ????
Went here for happy hour based on the raving reviews. I’m surprised this spot has such a high rating. Really slow and non-friendly service while the place wasn’t busy at all. The quality of food was quite poor: fish n chips were flavorless and slippery, pulled pork poutine was soggy, and Caesar salad wasn’t restaurant quality. All sauces tasted like they were from sauce packets. The chucked Oysters were good but served in a tiny cup, I wasn’t offered any sauces (even if there’s a cost, they should have been offered). We had to chase the waitress down for horseradish and everything else. She didn’t check on us: probably would’ve gotten more drinks if she did. Overall experience was disappointing.
Fresh oysters and pasta are amazing. Staffs are friendly, great service.
Great food and staff are very accommodating in trying to get us seats even without a reservation every time. Service is top notch.
My friends and I dined here last night and the food was great!! I had the house-made veggie burgers, and it was one of the best I’ve ever tasted. All the meals were generous portions at a reasonable price. I look forward to dining there again.
Had the mushroom and short ribs with a oyster starter.... so lovely!
Dine in
Great hideaway to relax and enjoy some good seafood in. Close to some. Ice shopping as well.
Great food and great prices. We inadvertently went during Happy hour and I was pretty surprised at just how cheap it was, given how good the food and drinks were. Nice atmosphere as well, so will definitely be returning, hopefully for another Happy hour!
The service is top quality and delightful, the quality of the food matches its ticket price - worth every cent. Their creme brulee is fantastic, I recommend coming here if just for that.
I've had great times at this place, beautiful interior, great atmosphere and great staff. The beer selection could be better, but otherwise this place is worth a visit for sure.
Really nice restaurant in Victoria if you are looking for fish or seafood. Nice service, quite quiet, not cheap but that was totally worth it. Would definitely recommend!
One oyster in my entire $23.00 jumbalaya (which was about three cups of butter-covered rice with what seemed to be pulled pork. Server (female) was also not friendly, helpful or attentive. Couldn't finish our meals, terrace heat lamp thing was so flippin hot we were laughing about it with people beside us in the 30 minutes we stayed, only to get our food and not even be able to stomach it... Never again. We'll be sticking to Little Jumbo from now on.
Known in Victoria as the best place for not only the freshest oysters in town, but the most interesting oyster dish varieties.
Service was good, food was delicious. But the wine pour was on the chintzy side, the portion was small, and they charged an extra dollar for two additional (small) pieces of toast.
The raw and smoke oysters are insanely delicious. All the food was fabulous. I come here whenever I'm in town!!!
Happy hour was fun; great server, $5 beer and oysters were great.
Great place for a pre-dinner bite. Happy hour offers buck a shuck oysters and they are delicious!
I was very disappointed with the service today. I waited for several minutes during which the host saw me standing there waiting but didn't acknowledge my presence, not even with a nod of the head. He did eventually find us a table for four but when I said I had to get the rest of the group just around the corner he said we would lose our table. I tried to explain there were two 80 year olds that needed help but he just shrugged nonchalantly. In addition, my husband had dined there previously and despite letting the waitress know a few times that he has an allergy to sunflower seeds, ended up with a pulled pork sandwich with a bunch of sunflower seeds wedged in between the two pieces of bread. We won't be coming back.
The chicken penne soup with no fewer than 2 dumplings is my go-to for lunch (at least once a week).
We came here, on a whim, after our reservation at Il Terrazzo left a bad taste in our mouths (to say the least about that experience). The waitstaff were attentive and personable and our meals were superb. I highly recommend the bouillabaisse! Thank you for saving our night out on our wedding anniversary.
Had a great time! The squid appetizer was great. Ive never had squid prepared in such a way it almost *melted* in your mouth! Portions are smaller but beautifully prepared. I had the dozen oysters too and they were good. Perfect for a fancy dinner meal, business dinner or date. Service was good, polite and they made sure to space the dishes in a sensible way.
We had a lovely happy hour. The service was good and the food was delicious. My boyfriend did order a brownie which was not so good (it was cold and hard) and took some time to arrive. But the server was great and didn’t charge him for the brownie. Will definitely be back for some oysters :)
I had quite high expectations coming here because a friend recommended it. Unfortunately my experience did not live up. My biggest complaint was that the chicken in the linguini was way overcooked and dry. That really can ruin a dish. Granted, There was lots of chicken in the dish, it just wasn't very well prepared. We did go on a Monday night and things were very quiet so maybe that's why. All in all not a bad place but a little disappointing for the price.
Always make it here for happy hour when in Victoria
What a great place if you like fresh oysters. Happy hour is between 3 and 6 pm. Amaizing, simply amaizing paired with your favorite local beer. Wonderful decor, friendly staff, happy and relaxed atmosphere. Thank you
Food was good but not spectacular. We felt the seating could be improved a bit. Just adding some cushions on the wooden benches could help.
Gorgeous atmosphere with good service and a wide array of food(and huge portions)! Upstairs is a different menu (and later happy hour) which is good to know, little bit fancier with fresh, raw oysters. But downstairs is one of my new favorite daily spots for sure!
One of my favourite restaurants in town! Probably the best happy hour around
I ate downstairs and it is highly recommended.
I had given this place a 5 star rating before & I loved coming here, but we were not impressed the last time we were here. Our order was wrong as well as burnt, which happens sometimes but when I dropped my folk & went to go pick it up there was what looked like years worth of garbage, forks & rotten food under my seat & all along the whole side of the restaurant..... I've never seen anything like it. I mentioned it to the staff so I'm hoping they have cleaned it & have stayed on top of it. Absolutely unacceptable for a restaurant & we will not be back.
Had an amazing experience here tonight! It was our first visit to Ferris' and we will definitely be back. The food was amazing!
Delicious food, esp the smoked fish appetizer, great service and incredible drinks!
Beware with the freshness of oysters here. Had two that were very soft and we sent back. Color, look and consistency of the oyster was also off. Our other dishes were OK, nothing to brag about but also nothing to complain about either. My wife had the mussels which were good. I had the pulled pork poutine which was delicious and ample. I also had the lamb burger which tasted great but was a thinner patty of meat than I'm used to and normally prefer. I'm a more meat than bread kind of guy. Staff was friendly and polite. Our waiter did a great job and patio environment was inviting. He went out of his way to serve me a shot of vodka with an oyster to make up for the ones I sent back. Give this place a try just be weary of the oysters you are served. Of the dozen we ordered we only sent back two and they were from the same bay so it was probably older stock.
Very cozy place, right by the harbour, food was delicious. Only downside fresh oysters were kind of tiny for $3 each
Small laixtion eith wonderful seafood. Tried the Boullaise (Spelling) It eas grwt with lots of seafood. Also had the curry rap. Great food. Schucked some oysters, good time
Hot! Yes hot as much as possible for the corn tortilla... Never warmish. You got this amazing product from a local Mexican chef and you served it warmish. Shame. It was good though
One of my favourite places in Victoria, with solidly reliable food, service, and atmosphere. Always enjoy thr fries and dips, and the rest of the menu has enough variety to meet any particular mood I'm in. Enjoy a foray into their range of oyster dishes, from fried to half shell to shots. Lots of choices, always delicious.
Food is very tasty. Service is good and friendly. I ordered naked oysters and halibut. I was particularly enjoyed the naked oysters. All in all it can be a bit pricy.
We had a great experience at Ferris'. As a group of four, we ordered panko breaded oysters, mussels and clams to share (all were delicious) and split a bottle of wine. For mains, I ordered the prawn linguine, which I couldn't fault if I tried. The cocktails were also delicious. Overall an excellent experience with yummy food, great service, and a wonderful vibe. Recommend!
Probably one of the most overrated restaurants in Victoria, after Pagliacci's. Never had a good experience here after giving it three tries. First time server forgot to bring me my food along with other orders, just never put the order in with the table. OK, one bad server. Next time they refused to prepare food the way I asked (without olives) because it was just premade crap they had in their fridge. Alright, one more shot. Server was arrogant and repeated ingredients in menu item as if to a child because I couldn't hear her so I asked "I'm sorry, could you say that one more time?". While we were waiting to order she made a big show of chatting with her friends and deliberately ignoring us. Avoid.
The food is very tasty here but I gave it three stars for two reasons: (1) they advertise buck -a-shuck for oysters on Happy Hour (which I understand that means $1) but they charge $1.5 per oyster maybe there was fine print but I didn't see it, and (2) the service was only so, so. They made it clear they wanted us to go at the 2 hour mark by clearing everything on the table even though were not quite done. I had one oyster left but they took all the sauces for it. The food is worth trying once but there have some shortcomings so don't expect this restaurant to be the best overall.
This is our restaurant of choice for my daughter's birthday lunch as she wanted mussels and I wanted oysters. The patio had been our first choice, but it was a bit chilly so we were relocated inside quickly. The service was excellent and the food was perfectly prepared and served. Thank you for the great experience, we will surely be back.
Great dinner. Both upstairs and downstairs places I will return to.
The food was amazing, lots of fresh Seafood with great unique options. Our server was extremely knowledgable on the food & wine menu and he helped us with our pairing. I will go back every time I’m in Victoria.
Definitely don't deserve 4 stars. My food came out luke warm/cold. Found a living life form in one of our oysters. Moroccan burger was just like any other burger.
We had debated a few other restaurants before we settled on Ferris', but this spot will be a staple for us when we are craving seafood in Victoria. We ended up sampling a few things on the menu. The oysters were absolutely out of this world - so fresh and so creamy, they were the star among many delicious dishes. The clam linguine was also incredible. A big thanks to our server Benjamin for the phenomenal service. The dinner was definitely one to remember. Can't wait until our next stop in Vic. Thanks guys!
Very delicious????
Go for the mushroom pate, stay for the bouillabaisse. Or vice versa. Low key, extremely nice people, and delicious food. Some things on the menu less deeply yummy, more like (as my dinner companion suggested) maybe what you'd make at home on a slow languid morning for yourself or for guests, like the ricotta honey spread--and I do suggest you make this at home for a bit of fun. We considered going back again and again for dinner, but there was so much else in Victoria to eat on this trip. We'll be back on our next vacation, though. Looking forward to it!
Great environment, good service and good food. The only thing is their dishes are small.
Ferris used to be our fav late-night place to go pre-COVID. I'm sad to report that the food prices have been jacked up and the food quality has gone down. I used to order the seafood chowder for $8, and it was super creamy and full of seafood. Now it is a whopping $17 and it's been watered down and is full of half-cooked potatoes and very little actual seafood. Very disappointing. I understand times are tough, but $17 for a thin potato chowder is outrageous. They also got rid of their pulled pork poutine.
This restaurant was recommended to us by friends in Vancouver, and ended up being a complete disappointment. We ordered the champagne and oysters to start, and had planned on staying for a meal, but we were turned off by the service and the quality of food. Our oysters came poorly shucked, and littered with shell pieces, and when we told them of the issue the only thing they offered to do was shuck more. Why would we want more oysters if it was already made clear that the kitchen doesn’t know how to shuck them? Ultimately, we were still looking forward to ordering some mains and enjoying our evening. It simply was the way the situation was handled that led us to settle up and walk out. For many, a date night or anniversary is a special time where you are willing to spend more to enjoy a nice meal, so it is disappointing that this was our experience.
Wonderful menu with nice twists on standard dishes. The Jumbalaya was nicely spiced with a lot of fresh seafood.
I've always gone to ferris' based on their big menu, likely to suit anyone I'm dining with. I'm pretty low maintenance. Tonight, with a back up meal in mind because I hate a certain ingredient in the dish, I asked if it was an option to not get something in the pasta. When I found out two of the ingredients were prepped together, I requested my second option. The chef/cook? insisted on separating the ingredients I didn't like (not an allergy). I really didn't want to bother them but he made what I initially wanted regardless. In the same night, my leftovers are an empty box. I thought it was pretty special and want to give credit. I've always liked it there. Great service and staff. Above and beyond.
The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Cute place and great for a date. Somewhat limited menu (was expecting a few more tapas or types of oysters) but good food and service. Will be back!
Wonderful food, large portions, fair pricing, and pleasant service. Overall a great place to eat!
What a cool spot. The food was fantastic. I'd definitely come come back.
Great restaurant. Amazing views!Staff was amazing dealing with food allergies. Very highly recommend this place! We shared the mussels and clams in white wine sauce. Fantastic!
Ordered a dozen oysters, after eating one and setting down the shell, a black worm crawled out from the now empty shell and made its way across the table. We notified the server and pointed the worm out to her, to which her response was, "well they are wild". They took the oysters off the table. Luckily they didn't charge us for that order, but we were a bit discouraged by the lack of apology by anyone in the restaurant.
We had a pleasant evening at Ferri's upstairs restaurant. Staff was friendly and even though the restaurant closed at 9pm everyone was able to stay until they were done without being rushed out. Paradise Oysters were delicious and I highly recommend the house made brownie as a dessert
The appetizers themselves were lovely - I had the mussels and my partner the salmon and crab dip. However the main's were uninspired. I had salmon and my partner had the steak. Both were served with the exact same side of vegetable and potatoes as well as blue cheese butter. Blue cheese butter on the salmon through us both off, and it ended up going to the side. There were several things that could have been done to make the dishes more unique to the protein, but instead it was as if the kitchen prepared the exact same plate and then put two different pieces of meat on. The steak and the salmon definitely should not be ordered side by side and compared. We also ended up being seated next to the door and ended up getting a blast of cold air every time the door was opened. Not sure how it could be avoided, but definitely took away from the atmosphere, I'm sure it's lovely in the summer though.
I've dined at Ferris a number of times and they've always been reliably good, the staff is always wonderful and very helpful. Their seafood and cocktails are also very good, the 5th star is because when I went for a quick dinner before a play when I only had 45 minutes they did great work in getting my food out very quickly, plus my 3 year old daughter loves their mussels, and their cook staff is very conscientious, they actually take out the dead shellfish before the dish gets to you, rare in a restaurant... and the atmosphere is cozy enough for a date or comfortable enough to bring my children.
The food here is excellent! I had the chicken linguine they had the other week and it was just a wonderful dinning experience!
Wonderful. I would go here every weekend if I could manage. Oysters = Amazing. Salmon risotto = to die for Will I be back? HA! Try and keep me away lol
The place to be in Victoria if you're seafood lover like me! Everything on the menu is so tasty and most importantly "fresh"! The team is friendly and helpful. As with all good places, it gets busy for dinner on some days but it's worth it!
We started out with the one dozen raw oysters and the were delicious! We could have eaten another dozen but ordered the Humboldt squid, Malaysia Curry Mussels and Pan fried oysters instead. All of the dishes were tasty. The Humboldt squid was nice and tender. We highly recommend Ferris's for great seafood!
Taste really good. I like happy hour menu. Regular menus are good too. Fresh seafood. Beautiful art works on the wall. Love this place.
Fabulous food! I recommend the squid and the smoked seafood starters, and the baked oysters are insanely good. The Bouillabaisse was yummy and the wine selection is excellent (we had a wonderful Tempranillo). The service is warm and friendly, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. Love this place. Definitely a Victoria favourite.
Quinn rocked and should get a raise!! Food was equally as delicious.
WOW. We came in at happy hour, had a couple of drinks and split five appies between us. Food was incredible, service was fantastic, atmosphere was amazing... and the bill at the end was surprisingly affordable. Would come back anytime!
Amazing service, great food. Will be back for sure.
Love this place. My favorite place in Victoria for happy hour.
When we arrived they informed us they had "no oysters". NO OYSTERS?!? That's what we were there for!! As it transpired, they had no fresh oysters due to a red tide, but we were suddenly informed that a few had just come in. We each started with a huge Spring Salad with goat cheese, slices of apple, candied pecans, etc. Absolutely fresh and delicious. Husband ordered Oysters Casino while I opted for Oysters Rockefeller and Oysters Cornelius. Nice, but I would have preferred a more traditional serving of these ocean treats. For the main course, we both ordered a duck breast, served on the medium side of medium rare at our request. The server explained that it was served with mashed potato, asparagus and carrots. But it came with SO much more! Rounding out the meal were baby pea pods, spinach, beet, fig and orange! Without question one of the finest meals I've ever enjoyed. Really excellent. Husband was slightly less enthusiastic saying my duck is better, bless his heart. The service was good but we were less than thrilled with the chairs which were hard and wooden and very uncomfortable to sit on, but for that food, I'd definitely return.
Im not a vegetarian, but the veggie burger is wonderful. The beef burger is also great.
Fishy tasting baked oyster was just awful. The pulled pork poutine was nothing to rave about and the fries tasted off. They almost tasted like dish water. The chicken penne soup and the pan fried prawn appetizer were both great though. Service was below average.
Happy hour is unbeatable !
3rd time here. Seafood is always great but my tagine today did not really taste like an authentic kind of tagine and was disappointing. Service was still nice and friendly.
Four Course Meal for Two First of all, this is the second time I've been Upstairs and the second time Michelle was our server. I don't know if servers have above average memory but she remembered us from last time and what we ate. Incredible. She's a joy. We love her. Last time we were there, she suggested the four course meal but we chose other dinner items - but thought the four course would be great for the next visit. Tonight was that night, and she was so right about recommending that special. I'm sorry we couldn't post a picture of the whipped ricotta cheese spread and the smoked seafood plate (which we ordered separately) but they were so good we completely destroyed them. Not a single crumb was left on the platter. I can't tell you how much we love the smoked platter and the variety of items. It's almost enough to make an entree. The second course were three incredible Korean deep fried oysters over a spicy slaw. Crispy, spicy, and garnished with kimchi and a dash of samba olek. The main course I chose perfectly. The striploin. Cooked to perfection and served over the most incredible choices of crisp green beans, tender white beets(?), asparagus that was firm, cooked perfectly and yet somehow had the most delicious crispy tasty tips! But what stole the show was the potatoes. I don't know the culinary term, but they had been sliced so thin, they were like pages in a book. Crisp, savoury, and delicious. Incredible. The steak was awesome as well, with a nice dollop of garlic butter on top. My date had the clam linguini and besides the perfect blend of garlic, herbs and butter there was an uncanny amount of perfectly cooked clams. They topped off the meal with a little mocha mousse for two - with a couple of spoons for sharing. Although we were stuffed from the entree, there was a tiny bit of room for dessert. It all paired well with Hoyne Dark Matter and in a setting that relaxing, warm, and super friendly. Thank you all at Ferris; you fine cooks, diligent and friendly servers, and Dave, who made sure no small detail was left untouched. From replenishing the cutlery, filling the water and even replacing the napkin after it unknowingly fell in the floor from my lap. If you're visiting Victoria, or live here and have never been, please, do yourself a favour and check out their menu. I've come to realize a restaurant shouldn't have a lot of menu items, but specialize in what they do have - and that's exactly what Ferris has, and does. I look forward to trying more of what they offer and hope Michelle is there to greet is again. A most special birthday dinner. Thank you all for making it perfect. 5 out of 5
Really good food and drinks, their seafood Caesars are are good! Nice atmosphere with old building.
Ordered their mussel pasta and was not good. I had to add lots of salt, pepper and lemon juice to make it taste good. Everything else was fine but nothing that stood out
Positively mediocre, unfortunately. My brother and his friend were visiting town, so we decided to give this place a shot. Between the four of us we tried a wide variety of items on the menu. We began with oysters and cocktails. The oysters were fine, although the prepared horseradish was a bit of a let down when fresh grated should be/is standard fare, especially from a joint that has an upstairs oyster bar. The cocktails we ordered were all quite watered down in flavour, one-note, and ultimately underwhelming. The mix was weak, too much ice, and tasted something reminiscent of what one would whip up on the fly at a college house party. Thoroughly disappointing given the prices. In advance of the mains, one of us ordered the seafood chowder, which was standard, but not exciting by any means. The other ordered a tomato-based soup that I do not see listed on the online menu anymore. The soup tasted like straight tomato juice, no complexity, bland, and was quite the let down. We split an order of the curried clams and mussels, which were prepared fine, but again, the curry flavour was minimal. Everything tasted thin and diluted. For the mains, two of us ordered burgers. An oyster and a chicken burger. Both guests were happy with the sandwiches. Chicken and oyster were crispy, fries were hot. However, my brother and I ordered the seafood laska, which sounded great, but to our utter dismay was served on a bed of overcooked pasta noodles. We absolutely assumed this would be served over rice (why wouldn't it be?) and it was our oversight not seeing 'rice noodles' as part of the dish. Regardless, these were not rice noodles. This was straight pasta - a linguine or fettuccini of sorts - overcooked at that. Picture a bowl of thin curry, with some fish on top, with 75% of the dish being soggy noodles. The curry here was also diluted, thin, and lacking flavour. This was definitely the most disappointing dish of the evening. We were half of the mind to send the dishes back, but were enjoying good company, did not want to 'get into it' with the server, and with the way everything else had tasted up to that point, why would we think something else would be better? We had a couple bottles of local white wine, which were nice, but we were all thoroughly underwhelmed by each course. Consensus among us was this food compared to a Boston Pizza/Kelsey's in style and quality. Not at all what I would expect from a well-regarded, seemingly cornerstone staple of Victoria's downtown food scene. While we were hoping for a fresh, exciting seafood dinner, we were left feeling letdown, overcharged, and agreed there was nothing to go back for. Move along.
I used to love this place. Seriously, 4 stars easy. Husband and I went last month. He had the steak frites and I had one of the three-course Dine Around offerings. His steak was alright but the paprika flavoring of the frites was not good and he chose to just leave them. That's on us for not returning them for another option, I fully admit. My salad and entree were both good tasting, but I could not believe how small the servings were. It was truly a shock as I had never experienced this there pre-Covid, and I can only assume this is a result of it. I would have gladly paid more just to get an adequate sized portion. What was most upsetting was our server, who had been good until this point: I mentioned that the meal seemed small and asked if he could recommend which of the desserts would be the most filling. He took obvious offense to this, and the rest of our meal with him he barely spoke to us or made eye contact, and when we asked for forks with the dessert he brought the minature 2-prong ones you would use for seafood. Classy dig, fella. I hope to go back and have a better experience in the future so I can revise this review, as I believe Covid is somehow the cause or trigger of all that went sideways. Not in a rush tho... it will be a bit to forget this last experience.
I have been eating here consistently for the last 15 years. Although it has changed in some ways, I still find it delicious. The warm spinach and goat cheese salad is a thing of dreams.
Went here for happy hour (5-6pm) good customer service and food was good as well
Enjoy going here for their "buck a shuck" happy hour, although several times I have gotten a lot of shells in each oyster which is usually unpleasant. The service staff is lovely and the interior is great.
I was really looking forward to this place, but it turned out being very unmemorable. The smoked seafood platter was good, but small.
Excellent happy hour oysters! Wine specials were great too. I believe it was about $5/glass. Cozy hip atmosphere. Highly recommend to go.
One of the best restaurants we've been to. I highly recommend the cauliflower.
The oysters were great but the main dishes were underwhelming. The service was good.
Nice atmosphere, risotto was delicious, great cocktails!
We came during covid-19. All tables were separated by plexiglass. Clean and safe. Outstanding service, delicious food. Best local Oysters. We ordered extra to take home for the kids. The kitchen went the extra mile, packed them so well that they stayed fresh when we got home.
This is a regular lunch stop for me. Great food, and nice back patio to enjoy lunchtime tucked away from the "bustle" of downtown (if you can call it bustle in Victoria).
A local favourite! Best vibe. Best food. Great place for dinner and drinks before a night on the town.
I love Ferris’ Happy hour. The staff is excellent. My server, Mya was the best!! Will be back for sure. The patio is a hidden gem.
Amazing polenta dish!!
Great place for happy hour drinks and bites! In particular I really thought the fish and chips were a good deal. Also the mushroom pate was excellent! Prices very appealing during the 3-6 time.
Poor service, we unfortunately had a grumpy and unhelpful waiter. My food was ok but my husband's dinner had bits of cracked mussel shell throughout it! My friend ordered the brownie for dessert and it wasn't fully cooked. I know other people who really like this place however we are not planning on returning.
Great service and environment. However my wife and grandfather in law got food poisoning from eating a burger there. My wife had a bad stomach ace for 4 days. This happened on Mother’s Day 2021 - what a horrible experience.
Staffs are very friendly. Food and drink are excellent. Very cozy place for local pub.
Just came back from the restaurant. We were sitting at back next to a large window with cool breeze. The oysters and scallops were super fresh; the main were delicious and the desserts are simply yum. Service was attentive and dishes came in good pace. Will go back again.
Pan fried oysters were amazing. The burgers and fries were gross. Such a disappointment after the oysters. It's a meal where you regret eating as soon as you're finished and want to rince out your mouth. Fries were overcooked but the server nicely offered to redo!! Thanks. The burgers were too big to fit your mouth and were a huge mess to eat. The meat was mildly char-tasty but like a puck to eat. The ceasar salad was like the ones you always hope they dont make for you, dripping in sauce and covered in fake parmesan. Yuck. Service was good. Decor typical dark burger bar.
I haven't been to Victoria in a while, but finally got here and went to an old favorite: Ferris' Oyster Bar & Grill. It was a wonderful meal: tasty fresh salad, delicious noodle dish, of course great oysters, and yummy cocktails. I really like the narrow layout, long brick walls, and outdoor patio seating hidden in the back. I recommend the place.
Decent food, okay service. Was surprised sides are extra on top of burgers. Quality of produce was good but was served burnt yam fried
About three weeks ago my wife and I were married with just a small group of friends present and chose Ferris' a couple months ahead as the restaurant that we would eat at following the ceremony. My wife called on the way to Ferris' to make sure our reservation was okay, but was told that it was not present in the lower restaurant, so they put her through to upstairs; no reservation was found there either. Frustrated and just married, my wife told them that this is her wedding day and they were making her upset, and the person at Ferris' told her that they could put us upstairs in the Appy bar. My wife explained that we were hungry and wanted a full meal, which was why we had made the reservations downstairs almost two months before. It seemed as if everything was going to be resolved when she was assured that they would find room for us downstairs. However, on arrival, we were pointed to the upstairs and were given appy menus. I asked the waitress why we weren't getting the full menu, and she replied that this was the appy bar. I told her the situation and she went to get the owner/manager (I'm not sure if he was an owner). The manager came over a couple minutes later with the complete menus, and I AGAIN, I thought it was all resolved. He told us that it wasn't busy so he could do this for us, as if what he was doing was a big favour to us (we had made a reservation months ago!!!!). THEN, hestarted questioning my wife and asking her what happened, as if we had lied and made up the fact that we had a reservation. It was at this point I thought Gordon Ramsey was going to walk out from the back and pull this guy away, because I felt like I was on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, with the dreaded egotistical manager. He then mentioned that they had called us for a confirmation in the last couple weeks and had never gotten a reply (I checked my voicemail and my caller ID, no one called at any time after the reservation was made). I told him that we had a sick family member and were away for days at a time, to which he threw his arms in the air as if to say he wasn't trying to start something (when really, he was trying to start something). It was the only negative thing to happen on our wedding day, and it sticks out like a throbbing, sore thumb. The food was just ok (I've had much better gnocchi, and almost everyone else present said there's was just ok also), but the server was very nice and friendly. I suggest the manager at Ferris' lay down his ego or maybe not engage with the customers; you are suppose to give customers the benefit of the doubt ESPECIALLY when it is something that YOU screwed up, ESPECIALLY on their wedding day. Very foolish the way the manager acted, and have told many about our experience.
We wanted a really great oyster burger and I said 'I know where to go!'. The food was prompt and beautifully styled. It tasted wonderful and we were super spoiled by the great staff who were so attentive. Could not have asked for more for the perfect Monday lunch to celebrate a special milestone.
I had the duck, and it was great. Didn't take any pictures this time I just wanted to enjoy my company.
Quick friendly service with style. Many excellent dishes coming from the kitchen! My pan fried oysters and clam linguine were perfect! I will recommend this excellent spot to all of my friends!
good food at fair prices neat location and vibe Ravioli pasta was excellent Beirut bowl was good, a bit dry
This restaurant is consistent. It's a local favourite, so much so that sometimes locals forget about it. We had a table of 6, and everyone loved their food and drinks. I shouldn't share every single tip, but the Pug IPA is one of the best "house beers" in Victoria (which I believe is made by Saltspring Island Ales, a great organic brewery too). There's also a special dessert on the menu. Just ask one of the servers. It's very very good.
Service was on the slower side...food was ok but had better food there before. Happy Hour is kind of nice and atmosphere is good. Make sure you match the prices from the menu with your bill, especially happy hour drinks
Fantastic atmosphere, excellent food and even better service. They currently have happy hour from 5-6pm with $1.50 per oyster ???? ???? and great selection of cocktails and wine. Had 4 seafood dishes and they were all amazing from calamari to clams and mussels it was all delicious. Highly recommend ????
Fanny Bay Oysters were Fabulous We had a awesome meal. The six pack oysters to start, we have never tasted such plump juicy oysters. Cooked to perfection.
Great food- we had the baked clams, salmon and salads. The lemon feta dressing is awesome!
Get the vodka & oysters. We couldn't finish one dozen so we asked for half dozen fresh shucked oysters which they kindly accommodated. It's paired with a housemade horseradish vodka. Simply delectable!
Was a while ago but the waiter wasn't interested in the party of two. He had his greedy eyes on the large group at the front ordering lots of drinks. When I complained about the chicken being pink in the middle disinterestedly he said the salad is still good. I was in a dark little corner in the middle of the site. In fact I had to use my key chain light to see the rawness of the chicken. Have had better times there but that waiter gets them the two star rating. Update: Owner says they don't serve chicken....might not now but when I was there it was chicken and under cooked. Your response just earned you drop in star. Your poor response should earn you a zero rating but they don't allow that. You could learn a thing or two from better run restaurants.
Lack of atmosphere in the restaurant section - tables were very closed together, no privacy, although the garden patio looks very attractive. We ordered 2 dishes: the bouillabaisse was better than the Jambalaya but both were overly salty and not well plated.
Dinner
Loved the patio seating so cozy and relaxing. We had four oysters so cool that you can order singles and build your own sampler. Also had the fish and chips excellently cooked. Service was quick but not rushed. Really enjoyed the whole experience.
Oyster burger was phenomenal. Actually the best burger I ever ate. Clam Linguine was also very good. Steamed oysters were OK, but not great. Servers were really nice, but it took a while for the meals to be cooked and served, which was my only complaint.
The happy hour is amazing, but I was disappointed when I took my mom and grandmother for dinner this weekend. The food was cold and salmon very overcooked and tasteless. We were also seated in a booth with very uncomfortable seats - bench seating that was too shallow if you're tall and so hard that my lower back and bum were bothering me after ten minutes. The front staff are always lovely and I will go back for happy hour but not a place for a nice dinner meal :( It would be appreciated for taller people to have more comfortable booth seating.
Ok , not very comfortable place, cold beer. Was there for happy hour not to bad of choices, and pretty good taste. Would go back. Service was ok.
Love what you've done with the place! Upstairs was awesome. Classic Ferris' Oysters with great small plate options for sharing. Roasted cauliflower? HELLO! Ordered it twice!!
Food is delicious and the service is excellent! Best seafood restaurant I've been to.
Very good dine around menu! A bit cramped but it is a busy, popular place
Highly recommended! Have the prawn carbonara! I wish I had taken a picture before I dove in. A generous portion with perfectly cooked prawns, tasty pancetta and fresh herbs. So decadent and delicious! I knew I loved the baked oysters here but this prawn dish blew my mind. It’s also great to know they are a local restaurant that supports its community as well. We will be back for happy hour for sure.
Great Oyster Burger and excellent service!
I absolutely love this place. Downstairs Grill is fairly casual with a cosy heated patio. Upstairs a bit more fancy. Seating is tight socront expect to be seated immediately. Excellent service and phenomenal food.
What an amazing restaurant! We had the fresh shucked oysters which were served on a bed of ice with all the condiments your heart desired. Yum! Next we had the most amazing cauliflower dish, omg. The flavour combo was spot on and unique. Just when you think it couldn't get any better, it did. The Humbolt squid was absolutely fantastic. It just doesn't get any better than that. To top it all off, Benjamin, our waiter, was friendly, knowledgeable and gave us great service. This restaurant is not to be missed! Enjoy!
Cuz of brown sugar? I don’t think so. We left most of dishes.
I was a little let down, made a reservation a week in advance telling the staff on the phone it was for me and my partners anniversary dinner, as Ferris' was where we had our first date. When we arrived they made no acknowledgment of the special evening and had no table set aside for us. I had specifically requested a more private table, and we were honestly just shoved wherever they could fit us. It was pretty disappointing and we were sat by a table with loud disruptive kids. Food was good as always but I will remember not to come to Ferris' for any more special occasions. It would not have taken much to make us happy.
Awesome restaurant! The oysters are amaZing, staff is so friendly and the ambience is perfect!
Chowder was delicious. Pork was a little tough but came in very generous quantities. Poutine left a bit to be desired and also very generous quantities. Oysters were delicious. Beer during happy hour was great. -1 star for iffy service... Messed up our orders on 2/7 orders (one of us ordered a plain burger and they forgot his order.. I ordered a large chowder bowl and got a cup) but otherwise great.
I ordered the mushroom ravioli with sausage and I was greatly disappointed. The sausage wasn't bad but it was lukewarm and most of my ravioli were burnt from being pan fried. The ones that weren't burnt tasted like they were under cooked. Very disappointing especially given the price. The dessert however was nice. That's the only good thing I can say about my experience.
Excellent service, delicious and fresh food.
We were looking for a place to get seafood and everyone enjoyed their dishes but was expecting a lot more based on the other reviews. We agree that the oysters were great! The service and seating wasn’t the greatest as well. The tables are pretty small and the service seemed really rushed and overworked.
Chicken liver pate; delicious, rich and creamy, with jelly that went very well with it. Chorizo puffs; not impressive, puff pastry with a slice of chorizo in the middle, we wouldn't order again. Sable fish; fantastic, great depth of flavour and perfectly cooked. Albacore tuna; the tuna itself was perfect but under seasoned in my opinion, the trimmings were great and flavorful. Nice selection of wines and those by the glass were good, go for the Spanish selection. The service was fantastic. I'll definitely go back and recommend, I'd just skip couple of dishes.
Used to be better. Yesterday we had comically slow service. The waiter kept forgetting to bring water/drinks/ the menu I requested. My steak looked and tasted like it had been left under the warming light for at least 15 minutes and was extremely salty (none of the promised flavors of ginger etc, just soy sauce overpowering everything). Underwhelming. But at least the atmosphere in the garden is nice.
One of the best happy hours in town, in my opinion. Food and drink specials are great value. I'm pretty sure I've seen the happy hour menu change a lot though. Love the mushroom and pecan pate, please don't ever take it away!!!
Came here for buck a shuck. The oysters were very very small. Can’t say that I’m not disappointed. But drinks and tacos here were good.
Great food, oysters were super fresh, and the service was perfect!
Delish. Would go again. Great back patio.
Buck a shuck oysters 3-5pm with a three olive dirty vodka martini!! Any time I'm back in Victoria, I'll always make a point to stop in for delish eats.
Delicious oysters and if you buy during happy hour they are $1 per piece. Had the ling cod meal and that didn't disapoint as well. Fish was not overcooked and creme brulee for dessert was really good.
I love this place. Amazing menu, amazing service, amazing locale, and a fantastic patio. The pulled pork sandwich is my favourite. And the steak.
Beautiful and cozy little seafood bar with an inviting atmosphere. The wine selection was excellent, as are the ceasars. Unfortunately, our server was rather rude and anxious, and the mussels and clams we ordered were cooked perfectly but the wine sauce was bland and lacking flavor. The prices are on the med-high side. Possibly will return.
Great cocktails, food, service and atmosphere. The clam linguine was definitely our favourite — very decadent. Highly recommend Ferris’ if you’re in Victoria.
Had a fantastic meal here with my son ..very attentive waitress
Love Ferris’s so much ! There’s something for everybody here. Best oysters in the city too Went last night and tried their Shaft , and the bartender was great . The drink was off the hook! We will be back ????
Superb!!! One of the best meals ever! The Boullabaise rivaled the one I had in Cassis, France which I thought was unbeatable! The grilled oysters, top tier, the grilled cauliflower salad surpassed expectations. Cocktail Major Tom was a fresh, basil, raspberry, Sheringham Vodka perfect summer time kickstart! The menu is amazing!! Chef Amanda & The Ferris Oyster Bar kitchen staff outdid themselves. All of the staff are professional, friendly & attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a guaranteed excellent Neal in a relaxed, professional, good vibes atmosphere! Be back soon! B
Really good food. Best oysters in town ❤
I had a fantastic time here. We had a dinner here and we're seated at the bar. Our server was great, the food was very delicious, and they have amazing baked oysters.
We came here for oysters on the half shell, which were great. Very fresh, they were even delivering them when we got there. Only down side was they only bring in one type, we were hoping to sample a wider variety of local oysters. We also did baked oysters, which were great. They have a lot of different types ranging from classics to funky. Chowder was very nice, and the garlic bread was delicious, but spooning the roasted garlic out of the bulb was a bit messy. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would totally go here again.
Came for the happy hour oysters and wasn’t disappointed ????
Dinner
This is my long time favourite restaurant in Victoria! Amazing and friendly staff, a lovely but low key atmosphere and best of all amazing food! The baked oysters, white wine clams and muscles and the veggie nut burger are some faves. Amazing location right downtown and a nice back garden patio.
Apps and main coarse were excellent , service was great
You can't beat the buck a shuck happy hour. Great service and excellent shellfish in a cool little spot. One of my favourite places downtown.
The place is beautiful but i ate fish and chips and the flavour was “x” not tasty at all. But the brownie was AMAZING!!!
Good seafood! Modernist mix of good seafood. Small portion. Traditional vibe. $$$$
I've had some very hit and miss experiences at Ferris', but I will always have a soft spot for this restaurant. Hits: crab and salmon dip, clam linguine, bouillabase, warm spinach and goat cheese salad, seafood laksa Neutral: grilled prawns (flavour was FANTASTIC but prawns were a bit overdone) Misses: fish & chips (dry fish and a bit too greasy batter, fries overdone), beef burger, salmon burger (dry fish, but tasty otherwise. Overdone fries), fruit and nut fritters (greasy, not crisp) All in all, Ferris' is definitely a restaurant I would be happy to go back to again, just for something a bit "nicer" like their pastas. I have not once had a good experience with the more casual meals that I've had.
Friendly staff, the burger and curry chicken pita are amazing!
Got the Major Tom, the Cooler and the Mule. All drinks were yummy and well made. For food, we tried the Laksa and the Jambalaya. The Laksa is very delicious. The coconut curry gives it a sweet taste that compliments seafood nicely. As for the Jambalaya, the dish reminded me of risotto. The dish is also somewhat spicy. So if you're not a fan of spicy carbs, perhaps try something else.
Some wonderful dishes and lovely service, but the baked oysters I was looking forward to were a disappointment. Not fresh on the half shell.
Good portions and friendly service!! The food was yum Yum
Great place for dinner!
My meal here was delicious, but service was a gongshow and the salmon and cod was straight up missing from my friends entré. It got taken back to the kitchen and when it came back it was still missing the cod. When we spoke to the manager his explanation was simply sometimes we run out of things. Apparently that doesn't warrant a heads up before ordering or a comp for a dish that came out not as advertised on the menu. Super disappointing experience for me and my friend. Good food does not outweigh poor service, and frankly argumentative treatment.
Three of us had a wonderful dinner here. The oyster chowder is excellent and could be the best I’ve had. Clams and linguini was also outstanding as this is a common dish but they do a sauce which elevates this dish. Clams & mussel appetizer was great, again carried by the sauce. Our flight of oysters broiled in different ways was underperforming with only the “Spaniard” being worthy. Servers were excellent very cheerful and upbeat. I recommend this Resteraunt but they are busy so maybe call ahead.
Super accommodating when we came in with our two small children. Great food, drinks and atmosphere!
Ferris is always the right place for happy hour. Cocktails and oysters -- perfection! The staff are super lovely and we always enjoy coming to Ferris.
We had oyster chowder and dozen fresh oyster as appe and salmon with crab and winter rissotto with scallops for main. Creme brulee for dessert. Rissotto had great flavors, raw oysters very fresh, creme brulee made me want to lick the plate. Only recommendation is to pan fry the salmon and baste it.
Had a great meal tonight. Ferris' has really stepped up in our new reality. We had a number of their heat-and-serve meals during the first few months of lockdown and it truly helped us feel a little bit normal. Now that they're back open and have plexiglas everywhere and great seperation between tables. We really appreciate how much they've done for the Victoria hospitality community.
An icon grew a new space upstairs. Same great people, slightly more upscale food.
Been here many times over many years. Have loved everything. A couple times at dinner the service has been slow, but most of the time it has been excellent. Favourites are the Mussels and smoked tuna club.
Definately recommend this as a great place to eat while in Victoria! So many places to choose from it makes it hard to pick when you only have a few days but this should be on the list of must visits! We sat out on the patio and what a cute place. Reminded me of being in New Orleans. And the food was some of the best I have ever had! We started with pan fried oysters and they have to be the largest I have I! Then I had the seafood laska and I have to say, it was. By far, the best noodle dish I have ever had! The sauce was amazing! My husband had the jambalaya, it had a nice spice and was full of seafood! Service was fast and super friendly. You gotta try this place!
I always love coming to Ferris, great people and amazing food. A must visit if you find yourself downtown looking for a bite to eat.
The cod was cooked well, and the appetizers were nice. However, dessert options leave something to be desired. Service is prompt and friendly.
Everything was greet the clam linguine seafood paella! Oh and brownie for dessert.
Spectacular seafood, great atmosphere and first class service. Well done!
Best part was our waiter he was great. Food not so good have gone there several times over the years definitely quality has gone down won't go back. Too bad one could put up with noise and crowding because the food was so good. Not anymore.
The first recommended restaurant to try in Victoria has been my favourite restaurant for years now. Their famous soup, oysters, salads and unique dishes are the best in town, second to none. Love it here.
The service was great and so was the food! We'll be beak.????
Ordered steak and frites as well as clam linguine. Clam linguine was perfect absolutely delicious, piping hot and the clams were not an over powering taste. Steak and frites had to be sent back to being overcooked (asked for med-rare) and cold After having it brought back it was undercooked but piping hot. Steak was a tad too salty but the flavour was very good. Was given a small bowl of delicious clam chowder to tide us over until the new steak came out, would suggest that alone. Overall would visit again but maybe stick to seafood
My son and his girlfriend very ill from eating oysters on Wednesday night at this restaurant. BC Centre for Disease Control has issued a warning for the province - norovirus outbreak from contaminated oysters
We were visiting Victoria BC and heard about the oysters during happy hour at Ferris' Grill & Garden. We were seated in the back garden. We had many oysters and tried almost all the special items of food.....all delicious! We left full and happy. Will come again ????
We always enjoy our meal. The burgers are lovely and the half fry half salad can't be missed. Their feta dressing is perfect.
Food and drinks were outstanding! Naranja Grande and Mezcal Negroni were delicious and the scallops were magical. We would definitely return!
Great place! Great food! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a casual place to eat!!
Buck a shuck was great, lucky to get a table as we didn't have reservations (recommended). The portion of clams and mussels seemed a bit small.
Food was either bland or really salty. My friend ordered the fish tacos and they were really bland, And when she told the waiter she said that we had to pay atleast 50% of the bill. But after complaining it was later taken off. Than she decided to oder a cheese burger and was asked if she wanted fries by the waiter. After getting our food togo we saw on the that she charged her $3.50 for fries that were supposed to be a side??? When I come back to the island definitely not owing back here
The kitchen deserves even 6 stars! Definitively a great place for seafood!
Koodo’s To our server Chelsea and the crew at ferris’. After a horrific experience in a nearby restaurant they saved the day! Squeezed us in without a reservation, got our delicious drinks ASAP, crayons and coloring sheet for the little one. Delicious food items and very thoughtfully double checked for allergy request. We will most definitely be back again. Thanks again for saving our girl trip!
Just has a quick lunch - amazing seafood chowder and the oysters were fantastic. Great staff and very cozy.
I was very eager to try the seafood as I am from Manitoba, I love oysters so I asked the waitress a couple of items she would recommend, I ended up getting the oysters caliente pasta and it didn't disappoint! My next stop to the island won't be without coming here again! Delicious
Quinn was an amazing waitress. Helped us with picking the Koran chicken burger and kale salad. Both were so yummy. Great happy hour- so much to pick from. So friendly/ great atmosphere/ felt taken care of but safe/ important with everything going on. See you again soon.
We went here the other night based on the many good reviews, however we were immensely disappointed. The amount of people who rave about this place, well I haven't seen this kind of mass delusion since the Flat Earth Society. We ordered the yam fries and they were burnt black and somewhat flaccid. We tried to save the limp fry experience, but were underwhelmed yet again when our daily soup arrived, which somewhat resembled bong water. (Actually bong water would have been preffered) Hey Mr.Ferris, did you try that blue drink, the one that glows like nuclear waste? Or the lime margarita? Any idea why it tastes like some combination of radiator fluid and formaldehyde? As if this all weren't all bad enough, the decor is something out of last century. There were actually bricks coming loose out of the walls!!!!! Which made my partner and myself feel very unsafe. I also noticed a disturbing amount of pug paraphernalia, which was unsettling to someone with such a fear of small dogs. I think its safe to say that we will never return, or would never recommend to those I know travelling to Victoria.
Excellent food & great service even though it was very busy.
Went for date night. Food was amazing. Atmosphere is beautiful. We had the oyster burger and jambalaya as recommended by our server Katie. She was also super knowledgeable about wine pairings and was so sweet. Service was impeccable. Will be back and would recommend.
Fast and friendly service. We had the Korean Chicken burger and it was delicious! Excellent value for the money. Highly recommend!
If you are in Victoria, you definitely have to stop by! The service was great. They were able to accommodate our large group quite fast and they were very attentive. And the food? Perfect. The Bouillabaisse was very exquisite and the Clam Chowder flavorful, and very rich! Best meal we had since arriving to town.
Took part in the dine around menu, excellent - recommend the Elk carrpachio.
Great menu, good prices and very friendly staff. Their drink menu is also really fantastic.
best happy hour in town. we ordered one of everything from the menu. we left pleasantly pickled, happy belly's filled with really good food, and we didn't break the bank. Really cool little place!
Very good seafood and service was amazing and very thorough. All our questions were addressed immediately and efficiently.
One of the best places in BC to get fresh oysters, they have Buck-A-Shuck during their daily happy hour from 3pm-5pm. This means raw oysters (Fanny Bay) on the half-shell are $1 a piece, which is a great deal. Size of oysters varies by day. Their food is pretty good too, especially their pulled pork poutine. It's really filling, so only get the full size if you're really hungry or are planning on sharing.
Food is good, price is reasonable, the environment is roomy and well decorated. However the service left much to be desired. Let's just say the server is not the warmest one we've met. She was laughing and joking with the our neighbors, but we wouldn't know her name if we didn't ask after we paid the bill. Not much smile either.
Food was exceptional and the staff were incredible. I've only newly moved to the island a couple months ago, and this is the best dining experience I've had in that time. I highly recommend it to anyone with any type of pallet
Feels a bit past it's prime. Ordered the grilled octopus and got one very small tentacle, should not have been called an octopus dish in my opinion. Luckily the rice was good. The whiskey sours were terrible. We won't be going back.
My partner and I are still newbies to Victoria but we came here on a rainy day for a bowl of soup. And they definitely delivered! The soup bowl was the size of my head!! It's so good we kept coming back for regular lunch dates. I always suggest ferris to friends and family who come to visit. The smoothies are also unreal. Key lime mmm. And it doesn't stop at the soup, the service is amazing, the sandwiches like the blat is perfect and the mussels are great too. I get want welcomes when I walk in the door especially with the little pug postings on the wall. You will not be disappointed!
Dinner @ferrisupstairs in Victoria! We had the baked oysters (3 ways), steak, and fresh shucked oysters. I lived in Victoria for 5 years but never made it out here. All dishes were solid and the vibe was a nice balance between casual and special. Follow me on Instagram @vinaeatsandtreats for more honest restaurant and baking recipe reviews!
Fantastic Happy Hour selection and prices.
We went on a Friday night but the place wasn't that crowded. The appetizers were ok but the seafood laksa was really horrible! Just a confusion of many tastes that don't blend together at all!
DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY HERE - horrible experience. I took my family for an early dinner on the weekend expecting a nice meal and reasonable service, as you might expect from any popular establishment. This was absolutely not the case. Not only was the service unfriendly and slow, every dish we were served was cold, excessively oily, and all together unappetizing. We waited 15 minutes to be greeted, once sat at our dark table in the back of the restaurant where it felt to be about 5 degrees celsius. We had to keep our winter coats on. The waitstaff forgot our drinks, when we finally got them, my son was served spoiled milk. We ordered "fresh" oysters as a starter, and received them filled with fragments of shell. Unacceptable! Our food was also slow to be brought to us. It could have been the room temperature that chilled our food, however, once our soups, fries, and ravioli arrived, they were soon coated in a congealed layer of oil, rendering them inedible. I politely asked the server to take the food away, to which they responded with comments on the food waste we had left, instead of asking if there was a problem. I could not have expected a worse experience, and would surely hope no one makes the mistake of taking their family there as we did.
Good service, friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, above average food and decent prices. Centrally located downtown and great place to go if you have a small group of friends.
Wonderful food, awesome waitstaff
Food was amazing last time I went many years ago, this time not quite up to par. Wasn't bad but wasn't mind blowing either.
My girlfriend and I had dinner here a few nights ago and it was awesome. We sat out in the back garden patio which was a welcomed oasis from the busy streets and hot sun. We had fresh shucked oysters at happy hour and then, on recommendation from our server, we shared the prawn linguini and warm cauliflower salad... and while all the food was delicious, the pasta was UNREAL!!! I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice meal out. We haven’t been out much in a while and from the amazing service to the incredible food, I’m so happy we decided on Ferris’!! Highly recommended!!!
Awesome place. Its actually three little restaurants in one. The Spanish tapas was awesome. Oysters were very fresh. Staff was very attentive.
Best happy hour oyster in Victoria! $1.5 each and it’s super creamy and meaty! The $5 house wine is good as well and so is the $5 fried smelt. We didn’t know there are a few different restaurants here which have different happy hour menu, so will come back another day and try the other ones.
Smaller portion sizes but I left the restaurant feeling full. The wait staff were very attentive and whenever our order was taken, the food was prepared and ready at our table in less than 5 minutes (amazing). Every dish was complex, technically well-made, and delicious. If I could give more than 5 stars I would
Meal type
Put us right outside of the washroom when the restaurant had many empty seats. Very poor service.
Nice place with great prices for happy hour! :) Was definitely disappointed that the Oysters were creamy but maybe that's all they can get this time of year.. Wish we hadn't ordered 18 ????
appetizer came after the food, steak ordered well done and came rare. when sent back they threw out the portion I had cut off so I got only 3/4 of a steak and fries were left to sit under heat lamp while they precooked the same steak. no apologizing or discount given for throwing out half my steak. $75 for this too.... food is delicious but really lacking on the service. Visiting from out of town and its always been fantastic. Servers also changed mid meal without explanation.
I have been to two or three times, and this is fast becoming my favourite of the more upscale places in Victoria. Admittedly I always go for the oysters, but I have also enjoyed their appetizers and drinks as well. Their happy hour buck-a-shuck (with a drink) is really cost effective as well, so that's a great way of getting good fresh oysters on a budget. I highly recommend their Rioja red, it's absolutely impeccable and not at all bitter. I just wish they were able to seat/reserve bigger groups!
Amazing food and amazing service! We had a little trouble finding the correct entrance to the restaurant because it is up the stairs to the left fo the grill. I would definitely recommend this place to others looking for a good quality seafood restaurant.
I have been visiting Ferris's pretty much since it had opened..my one and only spot in Victoria for oysters on the half shell..and they have great cocktails and craft beers as well as an extensive menu which had maintained consistency throughout the years..with obvious changes with different chefs..they have expanded adding a patio and a casual fine dining place upstairs...love this place..
Stopped in for Buck-a-shuck Happy Hour and that was a great choice! The service team was fantastic. Anne (Babs) was very attentive at the Bar, and the rest of the team provided great hospitality. The drinks were priced really well, and you can't really beat dollar oysters. We appreciated all the local insight from Anne, and were happy to call her a friend at the end of our experience. Great hospitality. Thanks again!
My wife and her 2 besties were having a girls nite out. My wife had crab and shrimp dip and the other girls had oysters Rockefeller. Both were violently sick and have lingering symptoms for a week. They called the restaurant to let them know and were told, "We thought we were over that". We were talking about the problem with BC oysters when the waitress came up and she told us the problem was gone. Wow. Didn't expect that from a well known restaurant. Bad on them
Go here every year for my birthday
I absolutely love Ferris' Downstairs. It's my favourite place to eat downtown. The food is always spot-on; the daily soups are always a nice surprise and really delicious. My favourite item is the smoked tuna sandwich, but I've never had anything here that I haven't enjoyed. The cocktails are great too, and the staff is always attentive but never hovering.
One of my most favourite places in the city! I crave their soup when Im away ????
Been to Ferris' a few times and each time happy with everything I've tasted. It's classic West Coast fare with lots on the menu to please everyone. Even from quarantine, all I want to do is order the clam linguini and crab and smoked salmon dip.
Probably the best salmon I ever had! Grilled octopus was great as well as their cocktail menu.
Like this place! It’s located in the heart of Downtown in one of the beautiful old houses right upstairs. They have cool interior design with authentic pictures and you even can buy some of them. We tried their top-ratting linguine pasta with clams and duck.. both were super tasty! Highly recommended for romantic date or just a nice dinner with friends/family
Nice vibes, great food! Buck a shuck in the aft (on Saturdays at least). Try the panko breaded oysters.
Great atmosphere, solid food offerings. Don’t expect generous portions here and the prices are higher. As you might guess from the name alone, don’t expect much in the way of vegan offerings. We were charged the price of a clam linguine ($24) for a small bowl of pasta with mushrooms.
We watched the lion dance in downtown Victoria and decided to have lunch at Ferris. Though crowded there was 1 table vacant. 4 of us each ordering a different menu item. Pastas, soup, entrees & appy. Food on the table under 10 minutes. Somewhere in between the server checked if all's well. I enjoyed best was the lamb burger. Also great tasting was the seafood chowder that came in a large bowl & the seafood penne. Meal ended with cappuccino and Americano coffee.
Good food and quiet welcoming atmosphere. The cozy establishment is up on the second floor and features a lot of Canadia decor. Props for the hockey stick picture frames. Lots of fresh seafood options on the menu. The oysters this time of year were good, but nothing to write home about, but the prosciutto wrapped cod was amazing. Their mains were a wide variety of fish and other seafood prepared in a nice assortment of ways.
They take seafood and do an amazing job of bringing it a level up from nicely done to a memorable experience. The meal was a wonderful presentation with a great combination of flavours & textures.
So happy I came here! I had the ouster burger and it was so delicious. Clearly fresh and very generous portion of the oyster. Servers are friendly and the food came out quite prompt. I noticed everyone was having soup for lunch and realized they had a special with the chicken penne soup. I’m still happy with my seafood choice since I’m not from here, but there’s a tip for ya if you want a affordable hearty option for lunch (seriously the bowl was HUGE)!
Went for appys and cocktails. The cocktails were delicious and the Oysters 3 ways were quite outstanding! One was a pretty standard Rockefeller, but the other 2 were absolutely amazing with a bit of a kick! I needed more bread to mop up the sauces. Only taking a star off simply because the Indonesian Prawns (which are highlighted as a house special), were just slightly overcooked, and to be honest the sauce, although tasty, didn't hold a candle to ones you'll find in Indonesia or Indonesian restaurants.
Went there twice it was so good. Happy hour prices were great for oysters.
I had the clam linguine, and it was perfect. That is what a wine and cream sauce is supposed to taste like. Actually, it wasn't a wine and cream sauce, it was absinthe and cream. Absolutely divine. Extremely good chefs here! Good selection of craft beer and local wines. Highly recommended!
Good fresh oysters but clams were not cooked properly.
Dinner
One of my favourite downtown spots. The food is always top notch and the staff is always friendly and accommodating.
I've been coming here since 1992, and it's always a good lunch stop. We ordered the lamb burger and the BLAT and both were great.
Sadly disappointing. I'm fairly sure they've changed their delicious fries but the service was a bit off and I was unable to ask. Oysters were good, but the rest left a lot to be desired
Must share the supper for two. Amazing combo and delicious pairings.
Go there for buck-a-shuck! $1 oysters and they're delicious. Nice atmosphere as well.
Friday Night Flair! We arrived in Victoria at 8:45 pm and needed an evening dinner place. Our son suggested Ferris. The eatery was bustling and filled with people enjoying their Friday night. Seated in an outdoor patio which was warm and cozy, we were happy to find Gluten free menus. Son ordered Jambalaya, bf rice pasta with garlic and chicken, I wanted prawns and rice... Plus we shared a bowl of mixed fries. Service was friendly and helpful. Our meals hit the spot!
Always great food & service
Had a delightful meal with 5 friends at Ferris. The food was outstanding and the service warm and intentive. Will be back soon.
The food and drinks were good. Our server was also great. However, what soured the experience was that another lady who was not our server basically insinuated we were dine and dashing by asking if we paid as we were exiting. Given we had no interaction with her throughout our meal, it's hard to interpret this coming from anywhere but some type of insulting bias.
Best meal ever! It was an amazing dinner. They accommodated for my friend's allergies and took them serious and then served us amazing Salmon and and Laska.
It’s our 3rd time at this place and every time the food and service are immaculate. Manager Maria always goes above and beyond to take care of the guests. Our waiter David is extremely professional and polite! Thank you very much guys for making our vacation wonderful and unforgettable :)
I don’t go to Ferris’ often enough. The food is awesome - every. time. I’ve tried quite a few menu items and have never been disappointed. Everything I’ve ordered has been delicious, properly cooked, thoughtfully packaged (for takeout). I love that they use fully compostable takeout containers too so I can do takeout whithout too much single-use guilt. They have some of the best fries in the city, great vegetarian options and a nice-sized menu that is not-too-big-and-not-too-small. And the brownie … ???? Early New Years resolution: I need to go to Ferris’ more.
The food was absolutely amazing. Both very sophisticated and large portions, it's also friendly on the wallet. For sure one of the best place I've been to in Canada. The service was also very friendly. Nice cocktail options but limited beer menu. Would definitely go again.
Tasty. Above all they have cool atmosphere to enjoy lunch or dinner just anytime. Also you can enjoy happy hour to get fresh oysters. But I am not sure one of their staffs know customer services.
One of the rare places where having a large menu is good thing. Ferris' is a Victoria staple. 5/5 for the Jumbalaya, (its so good and more than large enough to share) Tuna Sandwhich (real tuna) and not be forgotten the 3 - 5 buck-a-shuck!! $1 an oyster sub $4 sleeves and 5oz house wine pours.
This restaurant was recommended to us, however, we feel it is necessary to let others know it isn't that great. It was happy hour and we went for the $1.00 shucked oysters and drinks. I ordered an oyster burger and mixed yam and fries. The highballs offered were not what we expected. Drink was small and full of ice in a small glass. We ordered two more drinks w/o ice. The drinks were supposed to be $4.00 but because we ordered a substitute whiskey for the highball we had to pay $1.00 more. Our biggest complaint were the burnt fries. I asked the waitress if she would consider the black fries burnt and she said that's what they are like. I couldn't eat them so ordered another plate, which came in the same way. Also for a dipping sauce it would cost $1.00 more. We wandered down the street to Docks oyster bar and what a difference. The oysters are 50 cents on Fridays and the drinks are happy hour $4.00. And they are bigger drinks. You get sauce with the yam fries and they are great (not black). Don't waste time at Ferris'. Check out Docks and even Flying Otter.
Awesome happy hour oysters... rarely get my fill but 2 dozen max puts me pretty close! Also had the smoked seafood tray and it was fantastic.. will definitely be back!
The food was tasty but I could use a quieter environment.
Wow, incredible food and drinks, soft, cozy atmosphere, wonderful service!
Hard to recommend the place. The salad and soup were OK. The entrees my friends ordered were all bland.
The upstairs is great. The oysters are local and small. Great drinks and large selection of wines and spirits. The food is great quality and staff are very friendly and helpful. As a queer couple we always feel welcome here. ACCESSIBILITY: There is an elevator and wheelchair access through the street level restaurant and seating available for chairs as well as an access ramp to the elevator and bathrooms.
Been awhile but the oysters were great . Would have given it 5 stars but the service was lackluster ...
Excellent food and service. Great oysters.
Wonderful place in downtown. Great food and friendly and attentive staff. Check out the happy hour.
Cozy and modern atmosphere. Super friendly servers. Excellent seafood and mocktails. Perfect experience.
We reserves a table in the patio and after getting there they just refused to give it to us very disrespectfully.
This place always gets a lot of hype. It's good but not the best seafood the city. I do enjoy the restaurant itself.
With eating out being rare these days, it was a special treat to have chosen Ferris' and received excellent service alongside delicious seafood. Ordered a dozen raw oysters, mussels & clams, and the tasty prawns with pineapple salsa - all delicious. Quinn was a rad server, and quoting last reviewer "deserves a raise"! Thanks!
Ok so first of all I must say that their potato’s are amazing! It’s kind of like scalloped potatoes but better; it’s baked, thinly sliced & ever so slightly burned which makes it a a little crispy. This isn’t an actual dish in itself (it totally can be though judging by how delicious it is). I found these potatoes out by accident when I was eating my steak dish and the they were underneath the steak. I’m going to go back and try to just order the potato’s next time. The steak meal and their cocktails were amazing as well.
Alright... well it's not upstairs anymore... But the food was done REALLY well... They have some of what every restaurant has, and then food that you want to try because it ISN't what everyone else has.
We came here for the grilled Humboldt squid, and they ????????de????????li????????vered????????. That was by far the best iteration of Humboldt squid I've had anywhere. It was super soft with a little bit of chew to give it some texture. The sauce was equally excellent to take the whole thing to the next level. We also really really enjoyed their clam linguini, which with the unexpected inclusion of pine nuts and fennel took the whole dish to outer space. Lastly but not the least, do try their horseradish infused vodka with some raw oysters (unless you hate horseradish). Just... Wow. I'm floored by my experience at this establishment. Definitely a must visit in Victoria.
Poor quality food, especially the oysters. We ordered a dozen oysters during happy hour for $1 and I had to spit out 2 and then returned the plate with 4 uneaten. They tasted like they had been over sitting... not quite bad, but certainly not fresh. And the brother restaurant of an OYSTER BAR should have oyster quality as top priority. Needless to say I won't be returning. The server however was very attentive and pleasant.
Pasta and seafood special was excellent, except the cod was overcooked. I was surprised that there wasn't any bread offered before the meal. Excellent service.
My favourite place! Amazing food with a good price, and exceptional service every time I've been here.
We had a wonderful night here. The food was great (we had warm cauliflower salad, squid (wow) and bouillabaisse). Service was spectacular; we asked for advice and what we got was great. Try the brownie. Fabulous spot!
Always a favorite. My husband enjoys the oyster shooters and oyster flight. I like the healthy choices and other offerings.
Ferris’ Grill and Garden….it was 50/50….the atmosphere is lovely, but the service was poor. Our orders were wrong, the menu recommendations were wrong, the bill was wrong twice, most of the food was good. It was a bit painful near the end because we were trying to make the most of it and didn’t want to be rude. Most of our party have all served and understand the difficulties that comes with it, but it wasn’t the best experience.
Enjoyed the buck a shuck oysters and beer. Great value here and nice seating area out back!
Tom would be rolling in his grave. Prices have increased & service declined which may or may not be attributed to the pandemic. What should NOT be blamed on the recent pandemic is the huge decline in quality. Soggy and stale vegetables in the salad, reheated soup, burnt salmon burger bun and a hair in the fires! Come on. Once the tourist season is over and you need to rely on the locals you are in trouble. We once dined at Ferris' at least once a month for the past 20+ years. Not any more. There are too many better establishments worthy of our business. It WAS a good run!
Upstair seafood Oysters bar was one of my favorite seafood restaurants in town. I love the Baked Oyster , Samon and risotto and the claim lumguuli. So delicious, good services and the decoration is very cool.
Amazing. We had all the seafood. Spectacular
Always a great place to eat, delicious food and friendly service.
Great seafood and happy hour menus. The service staff were friendly & helpful, and the ambience was so cozy! Will definitely go back when I am in Victoria.
Was busy. Waitress had her hands full. Had to wait for drinks refills. Booths are uncomfortable for larger men. Shrimp was perfectly cooked. Everyone enjoyed their meals
A nicely decorated, great atmosphere, wonderful service team kinda a place. The food is even way better than the place itself. The menu variety is so nicely crafted without losing focus of the main ingredient, Oysters. Served very fresh and tasted vert very good. I will go back there again everytime I am in town. Great all the way around.
Great apps, quick & excellent service.
Went there Wednesday for a birthday celebration. Wonderful menu and the food was even more delicious than it sounded on the menu. Our server Quinn was excellent, there when we needed her but not intrusive. Very switched on. Altogether a great experience. Definitely 5 star
I will definitely return to try other dishes in spite of the seating disadvantages. Great staff, Really delicious food and a good enough wine list. The service was exemplary. A really good place for my birthday dinner. I find that there are only 2 downsides (at least in the downstairs grill): The tables are almost too small to comfortably hold your dinner and enable you easily to eat it, and the tables are so far away from the benches (bolted to floor) that you can get a back ache just having dinner and the single chairs are hard enough to reduce your butt to tears.
First time I got the Korean fried burger it was awesome. However the second time there was a staple inside the burger.
I honestly love this place and go here every opportunity.
I really like Ferris', in a reliable good meal kinda way. Sure there's more original food not far away, and cheaper for across the street, but Ferris' never feels too expensive, or too grubby. They have a decent gluten free menu, although I ate there before a had such a restricted diet and felt the same about their food. Staff are always friendly as I remember, and I really like the back courtyard on a warm day. The only reason they don't get five stars, is lack of trying. They have a good menu, but they're not going to be seeing trends, or trying new things.
Absolutely incredible seafood; had the monstrous oysters in garlic butter, the bouillabaisse and the jambalaya. Seafood nirvana. Highly recommended. Pro-tip: go the one on the main level. Unpretentious and delectable.
Soooooo gooood! I’m still drooling. Got oysters , burger and fries. Everything was delicious and staff were accommodating and friendly. No complaints here. Oh! And the atmosphere is warming and welcoming
Captain's Log: it has been 1 hr and 44 minutes. We still haven't seen our food. Our server has yet to refill the water glass of my pregnant wife, the one we asked for 1 hour and 12 minutes ago and again 38 minutes ago. My first beverage is finished, I wonder how long it will take for the ice to melt.
Ferris’ totally gets that when we break into the Piggy Bank to eat a special meal out we still hope for the best food in a lovely setting. But also the pleasure of seeing other people gathered to enjoy an evening with family, friends, a first date. And so it was: a delicious dinner to die for, in a gorgeous high-ceiling, old-brick-and-wood setting; the no-barrier-barriers are a total win for creativity, beauty, and (important to us) inobtrusiveness in this socially-weird moment. That, plus relaxed but skilled service, and of course, of course, fabulous food (two small dishes for me, ceviche and polenta, divine, delicious). Victoria, you’ve got this, and thank you Ferris’ Upstairs for a sweet evening out. Okay, confession, we come here often, and you never disappoint.
Food and atmosphere are great! Parking can be frustrating but if you don't mind a short stroll it can be found on another street. Loved the curried chicken pita and the side salad was so satisfying!
A long-time favourite! Many people come here for the excellent oysters but I love the salmon burger. Insiders know to order "mixed fries" to get both the delicious regular and yam fries with your meal. Even side salads come as a very generous portion. Very unlikely you will leave hungry! It can get quite busy during peak hours so reservations would be recommended then, but during non-peak times you will probably be able to stroll in and get a table.
The food is good but I ordered a cocktail and it had no flavor, I let the waiter know and he gave me a bad attitude, I will not return to this place
Some of the $1.50 Oysters were so small I felt it almost wasn't even worth eating them. Worst oysters I've ever had.
Extremely disappointing experience. Not a bad spot but definitely not the right vibe for me. Won't be returning
Had the buck a shuck oysters, and clams and mussels, as well as a smoked seafood platter, it was all very fresh and tasty, and exceptional service. Definitely a great place to go!
A Victoria staple! Been going here for 20yrs and will go for another 20yrs if possible. Tons of menu variety for everyone to choose from, also nice and casual atmosphere.
The oysters they served this past Saturday were so dirty, I was constantly picking pebbles and shells out of my mouth. The server had said that she'd been serving oysters "for a long time" and had never heard oyster referred to as "pebble-y" before. I guess that's fair? But has she ever sucked an oyster? Had the person shucking them ever shucked before? It takes 3 extra seconds to search for pebbles when you shuck. I was disappointed because people I'd met said this was the best place in Victoria for oysters, but they can't even pick out pebbles or shells!
Huge menu, top tier unique recipes, (curry chicken pita, veggie nut burger, tuna sashimi sandwich) and great vibe. Brick patio in the back is a must on a sunny day.
Ferris upstairs - BEST BROWNIES EVER!! Fudgy in the middle, crispy on the outside. Tends to be our go-to spot for a dinner out coming from the westshore. Good oysters, seafood dishes and drinks!
Great and fun atmosphere, good service. Pretty limited menu but a cute place for a date. We'll be back.
The seafood Laksa was legitimately one of the best meals I have had in months. Savoury and tangy with fresh herbs and just a bit of the sea from the fish. The quality of the salmon and cod was high. Excellent across the board.
I had been to this place before and had the best chicken burger in victoria. But the recent visit to this place was a disappointment. We ordered 2 Pina colada smoothies ( which were excellent) and 2 south Kentucky burgers. The burgers weren’t great, abundance of fries in each plate which weren’t great either. The burgers seemed to have been cooked in hurry. Ambience: Average (Seating facilities aren’t that great) Service and staff: Friendly Wait time : 10 - 15 min in busy hours Food : Average, the plate seems too heavy and disorganized. Overall was expecting it to be good experience, would still rate it 3 for the previous good experience.
Excellent place to dine. Everything we tried was good. Their homemade ice tea is a must try and I really enjoyed the fish and chips. Good value for your money and the kids menu was a plus.
We were impressed with the quality of food here. The wild salmon burger was delicious and my partners fish and chips was outstanding. We tried a few spots for fish and chips and my partner said Ferris' tasted the best. I had tried a salmon burger at Finns and it wasn't nearly the same quality. Will be back!
Fantastic place for a fresh seafood! I've tried it once, than on my second trip to BC from Ontario, I decided to stay overnight in Victoria, just so I could go for a dinner to Ferris'.
