You will be able to see the feddbacks of people like you who know the services and products of Sizzling Tandoor Downtown (Catering) in Victoria (Canada).
Nowadays this business has a score of 4.2 over 5 and the rating is based on 127 reviews.
As you can see its rating is very high, and it is founded on a large number of reviews, so we may conclude that the evaluation is quite accurate. If many people have bothered to rate when they've done well with the business, is that it works.
You know that we don't usually stop to give evaluations when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Catering corresponds to the category of Indian restaurant.
Coming from the lower mainland, I at least expect to have more then one small batch of butter chicken and rice for 30 dollars. This was very disappointing. All my food fit on one plate when usually ordering Indian food you get a full big portion. I will not make this mistake again. Also very subpar sauce and terrible naan. WAY TO EXPENSIVE! Avoid
Really bad taste. We order chicken curry n daal.makhni ..
Best Indian food in town .
This is what a classic naan looks like. My worst experience ever with a restaurant.
A good place to eat after a sport session in the morning! I enjoyed it. Had a classic Tandoori Chicken with a naan, did not try the buffet. Nice playlist by the way.
Daal reminds me my mom today best tasty ever food I had among all Indian restaurants and nice music
We went there and the service was so slow and no menu was provided for almost 15 mins. The food came out quick but it was pretty regular. The people that work there seem very awkward. And then a man walks in screaming loud at the servers so seemed like it was an odd day. Was recommended by a friend but dont think we'll go back.
One of the better Indian buffets in Victoria.
Very nice place ... It my first time over there and I love the food and hospitality .. the food safe level well maintained.
Tasty food with good service. A bit expensive.
WOW ... this food was absolutely amazing! Just went to The Sizzling Tandoor tonight! DAMN! This is the best food I've had in Victoria, and one of the best Indian food experiences I have EVER had, anywhere! Their food is SOOOOOO good! Can't wait to go back there again, and again, and AGAIN!
Great service and amazing food. So far 2 visits to Victoria and tried on both. Consistent good quality and quantity food with friendly smiles.
I love the food here!
This is the smaller of the two Sizzling Tandoor locations in Victoria. Service is reasonably good, although the lunch buffet could use a little more selection. Where this restaurant really shines is its dinner menu. The apricot curry is definitely special, and while it may seem odd you have to try the Butter Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo.
Can't speak to the restaurant itself but we bring the food in for work regularly and every time I eat until it hurts. The butter chicken and fresh naan is just incredible.
Always friendly service by staff and owners, keep it up.
Wow! We were all blown away by this amazing little place. Best Coconut Curry, both with the fish added and the chicken. The cheese filled naan bread and the regular garlic and basil naan were delicious, and huge (like enough for 4 people to share), for only $3.00 and $5.00. The butter chicken is smooth, so tasty and wonderful, just like the reviews we read. There is a big reason why this is the #1 Indian restaurant in Victoria. We visited on April 2, 2013, when recently visiting Victoria. The waitress (whom we read ahead was great), Morag, was exceptional and is so valuable to the establishment. Everything she recommended and explained was exactly right! She was the perfect way to present the amazing food, the best Indian food we have tasted. If we lived there, this would be a weekly stop for us. Oh, also, the Lassi, OMG, so good! I had the Mango that Morag recommended and it was like nothing we had ever had before, like drinking a whole smashed up mango in the most delicious yogurty lightly spiced drink of heaven, Yum. The prices were reasonable too. Such a wonderful experience and each time we are back in Victoria, we will be returning to Sizzling Tandoor and hoping to still see wonderful Morag there!!
Verrrry friendly staff, Lucky the bartender is awesome. Amazing food and a relaxing atmosphere with good indian music.
Food good, services just ok
Excellent, will return
Delicious food, for such a valuable price
real tasty indian food, value
Amazing food. Authentic flavors and friendly staff. Definitely recommend If You're in downtown area.
Amazing food every time
Best à-la-cart Indian food in Victoria!!
The food was great but the service could use improvement. The wait staff was slow to give us the bill and so I had to get up and remind them. One of the toilets was also clogged and smelly but the staff did not address it right away because they either didn't know or just didn't care enough.
Had some take-out from her not long ago. So disappointed. I don't know if there are some new cooks there, but the food was bland (we asked more medium heat), overcooked and under-portioned. Each dish we ordered averaged $15 and didn't quite fill the 500 ml (2 cup) portion sized containers. The naan was really dry and dense, and the paneer was hard. I felt sad and embarrassed to see the faces on my family who were too polite to complain. The quiet chewing, weak smiles and shrugs spoke volumes.... Clearly, past reviews show there was significant talent in the kitchen in the past. Maybe I will try again when I hear some changes have been made.
I loved this place!! All food is tasty, especially Samosa was my favorite. Don’t hesitate to come in if there’s no people, you’ll like it!
5 stars because the tall, curly haired Indian guy provides excellent customer service. The food is excellent too lol
Good one
Sizzling tandoor is the one the best restaurants in victoria . and Lunch Buffet price is very reasonable. Nice...!!!
Food Was Ok
Food is absolutely delicious! If you can hit the happy hour specials even better! Will gladly recommend to friends and family 5/5
Amazing place to have great indian taste and Jennaka is an amazing server makes you feel special ..
Dinner
The flavours and portions are amazing. Definitely a place to eat at if you like Indian food.
Best buffet and reasonable price
This place has some of the best butter chicken I have ever had in my life, and the garlic naan is out of this world.
Good food
The ambiance is good but the buffet was kinda cold and messy... The taste and service was good but they should have better arrangement for buffet and more fresh food.
Food was okay but the service was terrible. we went for afternoon buffet at the uptown center and the staff was extremely disinterested and didn't bother to help us with anything like had to wait for 15 mins for water with curry stain on the glass bottle ,didn't even bother to check if we had water and when asked for naan they took more than 30 mins to serve . Its like you are paying less so u deserve less or no attention . they made us feel terrible. Disappointed :(
Pathetic people. Their website says that they close at 9:30 on Saturday and on June 10th we went to this place at 8:45 and the guy over there told us we are closed. There were guys eating and he rudely turned us away. He didn't even bother to ask if we were wanting take away. At last moment it was really stressful for us to find another Indian restaurant. We then searched on google and found spice jammer and believe me I was happy that this guys turned us away. One has to visit that place to have that authentic flavoured food. After Sanjeev kapoor khana khazana I can blindly go to spice jammer. I would not suggest this sizzling tandoor restaurant to anyone. They need to learn professionalism first.
And I thought there was no good Indian food in Victoria! We enjoyed a terrific buffet for $12, today. Everything was fresh, flavorful, uniquely spiced, and not too oily. Perhaps they could use a couple more items on the salad bar, but boy was the buffet great. You've got to try the Gajar halwa for dessert if you're lucky enough to find it.
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! Waited for over hour, no one came to let us know they were running late or cared to tell us before sitting that it will be a while, after asking about the food after hour, server just said she is sorry and still no food even though they were fulfilling skip orders. Like we were sitting inside a restaurant and were not being served so we had to leave the restaurant after waiting for an hour and 40 minutes with no food and server just looked at us leaving, like they didn’t care.
The first feeling as we entered, it is not a fancy or trendy style of restaurant. However, the staff were reasonably friendly. We went for lunch and ended up trying their buffet. If you do not have a table near the street facing window or door, it seemed rather dark. We are not Indian food expert, so just rely strictly on comparison and our feeling. This was the 4th Indian restaurant we visited within the last 5 weeks. My wife expressed that their buffet could use a slightly more selection. I just told her that if the food quality were high and the taste were good, only one choice is good enough for me. Unfortunately, it wasn't the case. Compared to the other Indian lunch buffet, the taste…let just say, there was room for improvement. Sadly all the Butter Chicken chunks that day were overcooked and dry. The sauce was not as good as any other ones I tried before either. Perhaps it could just be one of those "off days" or perhaps their chef was on vacation…everyone deserves a vacation… Oh, one more small thing that bothered me. The table top was covered with a piece of clear glass or plexiglass which had a rather slippery surface. I had to chase my plate around throughout my meal.
Dine in
Food is okay, we ordered Navranta Korma & Paneer Tikka Masala, but that came with exactly the same curry, may be the chef doesn’t have enough experience of making multiple varieties of Indian dishes. Restaurant is good for people who doesn’t have much knowledge about Indian food.
The food here is absolutely amazing. Best chicken I have ever had in my life, I had the Tandoori, so good. Also the Mumbai Mule cocktail best drink I have had in a long time. When this whole covid thing is over I can not wait to travel back here when safe to do so and go here for dinner. They have Kids menu, great drinks, great food, walking distance from Harbour. So good
Love this location ???? amazing food, ambiance, and service! The bartender Lucky is phenomenal so definitely ask for his creations. Everyone who works here is a gem ???? Beautiful family business that I love to support. It’s been great to see this place grow and is always my go to for Indian food!
Nice staff
We first went to Sizzling Tandoor 3 years ago because we say that they were extremely accommodating to vegans and we were so impressed! The food is amazing we literally ate there for a month straight and even got then to cater our wedding this year. They were amazing at the wedding so accommodating and kind, they were extremely affordable and the food was amazing. The guests even stood up and cheered the owner, the food was definitely one of the highlights of the wedding, I would definitely recommend eating here!
Very good experience. The saagwala curry was very flavorful with fresh ginger. Seemed busy on a Friday night.
We went for food. I will say food is ok. Not super tasty. They can improve the taste. I like the service though friendly.
Best indian food ever. Friendly staff.
Service
Would not get Indian food anywhere else!! The food is unbelievable & the staff were so friendly & attentive. Would kill for them to open in the U.S!
The host asked us if we wanted a table for 2. I asked if takeout was available and the host said no. I then asked if we could sit in since the takeout was unavailable. The host said they were now closed even though there were people in the restraunt and it was 9 pm. They close at 10. Why offer to seat us then deny us? Will not be coming back.
Excellent food and service
They sells alcohol too
Great service. Food is amazing. I am stuffed!
We very much enjoyed it. The food was amazing, the naan bread is a must try, so many different options. Liked the atmosphere and the decor. Will definitely be going back.
Great food!
Bad experience
Top notch Indian food. Best butter chicken in town. And to top that all off, this restaurant has a pretty unique cocktail menu you must try!
Friendly staff, good food, reasonable prices. We ate tandoori chicken Caesar salad, butter chicken curry, and naan.
Very unprofessional and pathetic food. Infact spice jammer is much better. I would never ever visit this place again
Best food
Nice little place with lovely waitresses, food is good and place have nice decor too. I like it , n yeah Indian food here is good I love the masala tea though.
beautiful food and beautiful service
Nice food
On a night out with my family, and with parents in from out of town, we ventured into Sizzling Tandoor last night. While the restaurant is not fancy by any means, it looked decent. The interior of the dining room was a little run down, but the place seemed busy and the ratings on Google were decent so we gave it a try. While the service was sloppy (spilling things and not cleaning it well) it was fast and the food, when it came, tasted pretty good. However, the food did not come out as good as it went in - I got food poisoning and spent several hours puking my guts out during the night. I had one of the vegetarian paneer dishes - beware. We'll be going somewhere else next time!
We loved it! We are from Edmonton and eat regularily at East Indian restaurants. The food, service, cleanliness, presentation, and social distgancing was better than most of the ones we've eaten at in the past few years in Edmonton, or in our travels. We went for happy hour, and their specials were great. We also ordered of the regular menu. The portion sizes were very large, all the food nicely presented as well as delicious, and the beer was ice cold. We loved their take on the Calamari Pakora (HH), the Daal soup was delicous/plentiful, and the potato naan was the best we've had. We give them a HUGE thumbs up on the cleanliness & social distancing aspect for the restaurant, as I am very immune system compromised. Not common anymore. The only sad part is that they haven't got a location in Edmonton. We'll be back before we leave, and will make sure to eat here again when we vacation in Victoria next time. Keep up the fantastic work.
Excellent food, server too interested in telling us people don't tip. Felt pressured to over tip.
One of our favorite Indian restaurants in Victoria. Dine here every time we visit. The flavours are delicious!
Not authentic at all. Service is good, food sucks.
One of my favorite places to get food! Their lunch buffet selections are usually great, and there are always multiple vegetarian options to choose from in addition to whatever else they are offering. Their dinner selections are good too, and I love their masala chai.
lovely folks.. very reliable
Good selection in the lunch time buffet, and they bring you fresh naan! I love their butter chicken.
Excellent ambiance and staff. Had best tandoori during our recent visit. Probably better than many of the Indian restaurants. Service was very good and price is very much affordable.
Just great. The okra massala was flavorful and fresh, the lamb naan was perfect and the rose ice cream was delicious.
Probably the worst Indian food we have ever had. Rude customer service. Please avoid.
Huge menu, always hard to decide. I highly advise the cashew or mango chicken! Garlic naan bread is addictive.
Amazing Tandoori fish!!
Not at all recommended. Poor quality of food n service. Staff only knows how to lie and cover up mistakes
We were in town visiting this weekend for my sister's wedding and Sizzling Tandoor catered. We have had Indian Food dozens of times in many cities and this was by far the best we've ever had! We chatted with Gurinder a couple of times throughout the evening, what a lovely man! We will definitely be visiting the restaurant next time we are in Victoria! One of the best wedding meals we've had!!
Great food, good portions, and interesting cocktails.
Always a pleasure
I'm originally from Ontario. Ordered last night from Skip the dishes. Yes it's a bit pricey but i absolutely loved the food. Wanted to take a photo but started eating too quickly. Shrimp biryani has big delicious shrimp. Butter chicken was creamy and great pieces of chicken. Tried the lamb samosas, so good. The tandoori wings were also amazing. Highly recommend.
It’s really a nice restaurant to have a decent buffet / all u can eat for a cheap price, the decor is lovely and so many parking surrounding this location, our waiter was “Shey” such a genuine young man, he provided amazing service , the food was really delicious, wish you all the best of luck .
One of the best Indian cusine place in victoria
Best Indian food I have ever had! The food was very flavorful and the cocktails are amazing!
Very bad experience.. we came as a group of 8.. we didn’t get the seat together, but we could see others getting that.. on top of it, bill was added with an 18% gratuity saying that’s he restaurant policy.. it just has the name guys, there is nothing Indian about it..
Disappointed
Well at first it took like 15 minutes to get a beer after we ordered... I was getting annoyed but forgot all about it once the food arrived. Absolutely top notch. Delicious! Friendly service and I'm sure it was just a one off on the beer. Been here before for the buffet and it's all superb. If you want a curry in Vic, this is the place.
We ordered rogan josh curry, chicken tikka masala curry, both were delicious but quantity is limited. Naans were soft with good size.
Food was fantastic, service was excellent. I am still stuffed.
Very beautiful place to eat
I have been to this place many times. They have 3 locations Downtown, Uptown and one in langford. All the locations have the same menu and tastes best in the city for Indian food. They offer Monday's butter chicken special in all the 3 locations one day a week half price if you purchase a drink Grate taste. Never got bored going to this place. Service is grate
One of my favorites!
Question: why does sizzling tandoor rock? Answer: because they are local small business owners with a strong family-oriented presence. I've read the reviews for this place and some of them are just completely off-base. Great place to eat if you're looking for delicious food...prompt service... and a community driven environment. Order the Dahl for mealshare!!!
Simply amazing.. Best Indian food I ever had in Canada..
This is a place that even the most fussy kids enjoy it
We ordered the Aloo Matar and another vegetarian dish and loved them both. Really nice wait staff, made takeout easy on parents with baby.
Delicious
Service
Got the opportunity to stop by this location and eat something, the staff service is beyond your expectations i must tell you. Secondly, the food taste was really delicious and yummy. Thanks for your service guys. Cheers!
The food is okay. The uptown location is much better.
Couldn't even get a table because we were ignored and left stood at the door for 10mins. Went down the road and was served straight away even though they were just as busy.
Tasty India food
Amazing food and service. I highly recommend their cocktails as their whole menu is so unique and delicious. If you haven’t checked out this gem it’s a must!
Bad food, poor service. Gives Indian food a bad name. We ordered spicy dal. It was inedible. Overpriced and unhygienic. Table tops were sticky. Floors were filthy.
Amazing service, super yummy food!!
BEST Tandoori Prawns, flavourful Chicken. Amazing variety of stuffed Naan bread, incredibly friendly staff and service. They offer delicious, creative cocktails, including tasty vegan ones! Been ordering online for over a year. So nice to dine in finally. We'll be back.
The food here was exceptional. We ordered 6 different dishes and 2 different naan breads to share. Every dish was delicious. I especially liked the butter chicken but the coconut curry was really delicious too. The naan bread can be ordered in about 15 different flavours as well. We tried garlic naan and potato pea naan. Both were delicious and great for sopping up the flavourful sauces. You can order vegetarian food and vegan food. There is a bar as well. It's not overly loud and we didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes for a table. Good service and good food and a reasonable price.
Mind blowing
Amazing cuisine full of flavour and lovely presentation. For the price, the portions were plentiful and scrumptious. I must tell you guys to try out the wonderful selection of cocktails they offer; especially try their awesome bartender’s signature cocktails (I think 6-7 were his original signatures). Amazing service from their bartender/server. Would definitely be returning.
For $15 (I included both tax and tip in that!) for a great tasting lunch buffet you cannot go wrong. I was really impressed with the food. It was very good
Tasty authentic Indian food...loud modern music..service is good
Went there for dinner and some drinks a few days back. The food was a little bland for us and the drinks did have fancy names but didn't deliver, either the kick or flavor. I wonder about the glowing reviews because thats the reason we decided to come to this restaurant. The restaurant was dimly lit so adding a few better chandeliers might help. The female server was good and attentive but one of the male servers with a (man bun/ponytail) had too much to talk...we didn't need his overly biased suggestions on our food and drinks. Maybe a little training would help. Overall it's a one time try as you may or may not like it.
The staff were great and very nice
This is the perfect place to enjoy traditional halal food. Especially the services given by Mr.Ryan is awesome. I definitely recommend this restaurant and hats off to Mr. Ryan.
Beautiful ambiance. The only actually spicy "indian" food. Great customer service! I will be back!
The Sizzling Tandoor is absolutely DELICIOUS! We've tried other "highly rated' curry restaurants - they fall short by far. Sizzling Tandoor on Johnson is plainly decorated but the food and service are excellent! We have eaten here once or twice a month for the last 5yrs and the food is ALWAYS fantastic. Try the coconut curry or lamb dishes - really really good. We just had their Spinach Paneer (vegetarian) it's a new favourite! There are two locations Johnson and UpTown - the food is FANTASTIC at both locations!! You really should - Eat Here.
Good food. The grill plater is good. Got the naan but it was tasteless. I would skip the naans.
Really yummy authentic food. Wonderful choices for Gluten Free dishes. Great service.
Fabulous!
I love Sizzling every time I go, service is great and the staff are very accommodating to my dietary restrictions, and the food was amazing as always!
Delicious, authentic Indian food and amazing service. The staff are knowledgable and friendly. I love this place!
It would have been a good experience but they forgot to put in basmati rice with one of our meals. It was disappointing.
Meal type
Longtime customer of the lunch buffet...can't go wrong. Selection isn't huge but its all good and inexpensive.
We went to this place on oct/2/2017 @4pm. If there was lower than one star i would give this restaurant -10 stars. We had kebob, dal makhni and naan. The food tasted old and the next day we woke up sick had to go to bathroom over 10 times, upset stomac. I dont recommend eating there at all.
The best Indian spot downtown. We've been doing take out since covid, and the food is always A+ even with take out.
Sizzling plates and naan that are really good.
We had the Palak Paneer and Aloo Mattar and they were both great. The garlic naan and plain naan were both very fresh. The kheer was more flavorful than the ones we usually have elsewhere, which was a good surprise. Kudos to the kitchen staff for the fast and high quality service. The highlight though was the outstanding service by their new bartender, which not only taught us a bit about the meaning of each dish name but also invented a new cocktail that would harmonize well with the dishes we ordered. Really outstanding job. Although we went there for dining in, I saw that the place is popular in the food delivery apps, with people coming in, non-stop, to pick up deliveries.
Good food but small portion sizes, also no cutlery in my takeout, was left with no utensils in my hotel room :(
We arrived at the restaurant at 5:30 p.m. and ordered before 6 o'clock, but we waited for more than an hour before they served. I wonder why this restaurant is so slow? Strongly not recommended. I'll never go again.
Best Indian place in town!! Hands down. Grandma has been spotted in the kitchen. That's when you know! Also, we were waiting in line for awhile with our 8 year old and because the owners cared enough, they brought us veggie pakora to snack on. No charge.
Good service ! Excellent Food !
Best Indian food in Victoria. Best experience!!!!!
Doordash first time try. Now my favourite Indian in Victoria. Mango Curry, Aloo Gobi and Chana Masala, top notch. Average price for this town. Go for medium spice, I dare you. ????
A very solid place to grab takeout.
Service was great! Had mango chicken curry & coconut chicken curry. Both were delicious!
I never post reviews, but this Indian restaurant is the BEST Indian food I ever had! Just amazing! The whole family include my two 8-year olds loved it! We will be back!
Superb experience. Simply amazing food, great ambience and superb staff. Had a great time.
Best Rohan josh I’ve Had in decades. Perfectly spiced and delicious. My husband raved about the chicken vindaloo. The heat level was exactly as requested. Charming and prompt service. Absolutely the best we have had. Thank you for restoring our faith in Indian food.
Awesome Indian food
Their take out is bad. The Naan bread wasn't cooked at all. Always. They are probably using frozen ones for takeout.
Good lunch buffet and pleasant service!
Place is great. Always friendly staff.
Wouldn't suggest the buffet. Preferred all items I ordered from the menu. Went with my two kids, wife and grandmother. I was glad they let me get all you can eat and my family to get off the menu. The buffet was not appealing or appetizing. Order items of menu if eating here. I had one plate from buffet and ate rest of my meal from my kids plates.
Best food I've had in a while. Excellent cocktails too.
(Translated) Good af (Original) Good af
Great food, but their takeout and delivery portions are tiny compared to other places.
I have been going here for years. Love it!
Most TERRIBLE experience so far. Burnt food, arrogant server and overall a sunday afternoon that left me and my group of friends upset. Asked to speak to the owner who even had the audacity to talk about our Indian(east-Indian) Community as a whole, in a derogatory manner. Server tells us that we walked in with a "bad mood" and we caused him to have a bad mood too. I would say Customer service at its worst. Spare yourself and find another nice Indian restaurant to go to- Masala bites, Varsha's Indian Kitchen, some of our favourites.
Ordered a lamb curry from them through Ubereats at 9:20, they accepted the order, said they prepared it, a poor driver apparently even went there to go pick up the order and then they cancelled it without telling me an hour after accepting it. Very disappointed, especially since I'm now much hungrier with most of my alternative places already closed. Very bad service.
Super expensive for the amount given. I'm only basing that off the one meal I had there but I'm probably not coming back.
Great food. Nice ambience. No naan at the buffet, have to ask for it, but that is not advertised anywhere.
I was waiting for a bus on Johnson St. a few days ago, and was feeling very cold, as the bus was late, and I was waiting for over 25 minutes. I stepped in to the Sizzling Tandoor and asked if I could warm up for a minute. The gentleman working there, offered me a chair by the window where I could watch for the bus, and get warm. This was already a very kind gesture, but he also offered me a cup of chai tea on the house, and put it in a cup to go as my bus could arrive any minute. It was very thoughtful and kind, and so appreciated on a very cold, windy day. THANK YOU.
Huge selection, Be early for the freshness. Just be prepared to be patient if you're asking questions. It a safe quick sit down Indian restaurant in Victoria. 3 stars for what I am comparing to at home in Toronto
Flavourful food and attentive (without being overly so) service. Excellent experience.
(Translated) Incredible value for money! Food very good, fast service and fast food. (Original) Unglaubliches Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis! Essen sehr gut, flotte Bedienung und schnelle Küche.
Always delicious food and good service.
Super tasty, I got veggie pakora, and a bitter chicken with garlic nan. The food was all super great, the staff was very friendly. I got a take out cause I was tired, but the ambiance was more high end Indian rather then a quick Indian place. Good for date night!
Food is very heavy but ultimately we had a great time and enjoyed the extremely bold flavours. Our server Manny gave great, welcoming service which contributed to a relaxing evening.
Worst chicken malai Tikka we've ever experienced, just waste money on it and throw to the garbage. Never try from here
Amazing food and service
Amazing butter chicken!
Dine in
Beriani portions are so large and tasty. Absolutely loved it.
Went here last time after my fast and trust me guys they are the best in town. Extraordinary customer service and amazing food. They have the best cocktails ????.????
Food was okay but staff were super friendly and easy going
After hearing about this place my friend and I decided to try and we were so happy we did. Their cocktail menu is so unique and delicious plus on top of everything the food is the best Indian I have ever had. Highly recommend and they offer lunch buffet too. Will be coming back here again in the future.
I want to give a shout out to the Sizzling Tandoor - their food is consistently excellent, and they make vegans feel welcome, not just accommodated. Their well trained staff assured me that they use vegan bitters in their cocktails, and that they would be swapping out ghee for coconut oil in their vegan naan bread, which is a rarity. If you haven’t tried out their beautifully renovated downtown Johnson street location you really should. And their turmeric sour is one of my all time favourite drinks.
Can i rate it - 1 star?? Terrible Service. Subpar food. We heard nothing but smart remarks from the waitress when we asked simple questions about our meal.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and always tasty food!
I’ve ordered take out and ate in at this location and the Uptown location and never been disappointed. I like that the curries come with an order of rice. It’s a small thing... but nobody likes to have to pay $$ for rice with a meal.
The lunchtime buffet makes this a great place to try Indian cuisine. The restaurant is newly renovated and a new feature is bar seating. If you're by yourself, that provides a satisfying spot to eat. The bar has local beer on tap, and what goes better with curry than beer?
excellent food. we like to go to the restaurant but can have to wait sometimes as it is a busy place. everything on the menu is good so you cant make a wrong choice. Clean place with great staff. Owners take a lot of pride in what they are giving to there customers
Food was okay, bland for Indian, service was above average
Worst indian buffet ever I had.
Sizzling Tandoor catered my wedding yesterday and it was amazing. The food was fantastic. I had guests coming up to my wife and I all night saying how wonderful the food was. Thank you Sizzling Tandoor for making the food at our wedding so memorable. Be prepared for the stampede of my family who will be visiting you for more.
Best Indian food buffet in Victoria.
Great food, atmosphere, and bar selections
Always loved their food but love their new expansion. Lots of vegetarian options and beautiful decor. Highly recommend the sizzling veggie platter with grilled pineapple!
After scrolling randomly through google maps for Indian food, this place caught my eye. Was not a disappointment. Filled me up, price was reasonable. Staff was very polite and friendly. Recommended.
Amazing food and service. We were visiting from Toronto and craving some Indian food so went to the Sizzling Tandoor Downtown. We know Indian food and this was right on the money. High quality ingredients and prepared with attention. We tried the butter chicken which was incredible with the tandoori naan. We also got the Chana masala and the chicken biryani. I would highly recommend this place. The manager of this location is a nice fellow and took really good care of us.
On a cruise and we asked the taxi driver for great food and he stopped us by this outstanding restaurant. Owner was very nice and the food was excellent. Staff was nice also. Will always recommend this place to anyone in the area on the cruise. Hope the food back here in Houston can compare.
Service and food were both excellent. Looking forward to eating there again soon!
Ordered take out from Skip the Dishes to.our hotel. The order arrived incomplete and without and plates, napkins or cutlery. The $12 pakora arrived as a bowl of sauce.
Excellent food and friendly staff
love it!!
Friends got together for a nice meal, appetizers and drinks one Saturday evening. It's a small but lovely spot with friendly staff and good food.
U can get food here...good food like wht h expect...im sorry...they follow there own recepies which kind of suck...
Their Beef Vindaloo is one of the best dishes I have ever had. I liked is so much that after dining I ordered some take outs as well. But the quality of the buffet varies quite a bit from day to day.
$48 CDN for a terrible buffet lunch. Supposedly the best Indian restaurant in Victoria. This makes me think that Indian food in Victoria is terrible.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, nice servers. Highly recommend.
Very bad experience we went last week and the Indian lady server was so annoying and her expression is like if you want to eat then eat otherwise we don't care. She change our plates and wanted us to hold the cutlery until the food being serve on table which took 15 to 20 min. And we are holding the dirty used cutlery on our hands and we ask to change it she said we don't have any all customer get one cutlery only. I was like what???? Pathetic service and very rude service me and my friends will never go there again..
Just amazing. Great samosas. Awesome korma. Best naan I've ever had, so many different kinds to try too.
The food quality is not as good as before. Inconsistent food and same curry in every dish.
Meal type
We were visiting Victoria and found this place. We loved the ambience of the restaurant, its a great place to hang out with friends for cocktails and appetizers, speaking of cocktails they have many options for them. We had chicken biriyani, karahi chicken curry, rosemary Naan and chicken pakora. We all loved chicken pakora and naan. Chicken biriyani and the curry was not that authentic or tasty.
Food was excellent and good sized portions. Service was good although a little slow.
If you are looking for authentic tasting Indian food, here's the place to eat. The buffet spread is awesome with great variety for everyone. The ambiance is pleasant, the place is clean, and the staff is courteous even when it gets busy.
Great foods, great service ???? ????
Great food, so affordable! Good portions!
We stopped in for cocktails. But the food also smelled amazing. Dying to go back!
Great food, helpful and efficient staff. Good location. What more do you need in a restaurant?
Great food. Nice ambience. A bit crowded but.
There was barely anything to eat and the food was not so good. During the buffet the ran out of bowls and the employees just stood there until I asked for more bowls. We went in there thinking of it as a good restraunt but it was totally different than what we expected. The charge was also expensive compared to the food quality.
Probably the best Indian I’ve had on the island yet. The appies were served cold, they were delicious just needed to be served hot. Had the veg pakora and aloo tikki. Our mains were paneer tikka that literally came out sizzling, dal makhani and eggplant bhartha. All delicious. The dal makhani had an amazing smokiness to it. The paneer dish was flavorful, huge chunks of marinated paneer served on a sizzling bed of veg. The eggplant was melt in your mouth, a bit greasy but good. Loads of vegetarian and vegan options. Gluten free available. It was packed on a Friday evening. Saw skip the dishes pick up at least 5 times. Both good signs of good food! I’d go back ... after comparing a few more renowned places.
Delicious food, good prices, and quick service. My favourite Indian in Victoria
Good food. Good sized portions for the curry
The dinner was delicious, service good, but having a bit of a problem with table surfaces which are sticky. Something we've never experienced before. Waiter explained they are clean but they use some wax that leaves a sticky residue. Sorry but we're not up for that.
The service was so friendly! Food was so tasty and very generous!
(Translated) Although the dish looks disgusting, it tastes good. (Original) 虽然菜看上去恶心,但吃起来还不错
The food is marvelous. I have never had a better indian food before ever and I tryed a lot in my life, but this is the best I have ever had. Moreover, the staff is extremly friendly, fun and cute. So I definitely recommend it to everyone.
One of the most delicious mixed grilled plater ever had definitely coming back for palak paneer and Lamb Curry ????
BEST FAMILY-OWNED RESTAURANT IN VICTORIA! The food and cocktails are incredible, and the staff is incredibly welcoming and kind. I highly recommend Sizzling to anyone in Victoria!
My husband and I decided to get take-away dinner here for our Breaking Bad marathon. I wouldn't say that this is Victoria's best Indian food restaurant. My number one pick is still Curry Lounge. The young lady who took our order was great in helping us choose a dish. I ordered the vegetarian Vindaaloo medium spice and my husband ordered the chicken Vindaaloo with mild spice. My dish tasted grainy and the medium spice was more like hot spice turning me into a human flamethrower. I do like that rice is included with your curry dish; it is something Curry Lounge lacks. The portions could have been a little bigger on the mains for what we paid but the Naan bread was huge, crispy and delicious. My sense of remorse doubled this morning as the spices ripped their way out of me in a raging fiery whirlwind of poopy terror. We won't be back.
incredible food, well priced tasty drinks, and an amazing staff! the atmosphere is elegant and dark and the lighting is comforting.
After trying almost all the indian restaurants , this one is the best food, consistent and taste. thank you for reopening and thank you for being friendly. Your barman is great......
Simone is outstanding! Excellent place to enjoy the afternoon meal :)
I waited over 10 minutes without anyone taking my order. The restaurant was not busy and the few tables were mostly using the buffet. From my experience I would suggest sticking to the buffet at lunch time rather than ordering off the menu. Left hungry and heading back to work.
I have been there a few times and will continue to go there. Overall the food is nice but I never found something that really stands out.
Yummy food good service
This is definitely not a halal place. They prepare pork in their kitchen.
The atmosphere, quality of food, and creative cocktails are unmatched. This restaurant is a must in Victoria. The servers are charismatic and welcoming, and the food is unbelievable. Can’t recommend enough!!
Great place for Indian food. Nothing to add. Cheap and tasteful
A nice place in downtown Victoria to try some real authentic Indian food! Great service and comfortable atmosphere! Love the food and the menu with so many options, the quantities were good and price wasn't bad at all. I will definitely visit it again and I highly recommend.
Food was INCREDIBLE!!!! Fries (of all things) were so flavourful, thank god. Loooved the daal soup and their chicken tikka was a perfect balance of spice & flavour. They forgot to give us the rice with the chicken tikka and they didn’t give us any napkins (which was a tragedy considering everything was finger lickin’ good) All in all, the whole family is sad we won’t be in Victoria long enough to go here again. You will NOT regret your experience.
Very reasonably priced, good lunch buffet, friendly service, best lamb korma I've ever had.
Good deal for Indian food
Excellent Food
First time experience - ordered through Skip the Dishes while self isolation...my order was received complete, hot and delicious! Best veggie pakoras! Thank you ????
Dropped in on a day trip through Victoria and was not disappointed. The service was fantastic, the food was great, and the prices were reasonable. Would totally dine here again!
Didn’t like the service & naan
Excellent food, cocktails and atmosphere. We ordered chicken tandoori, lamb Rogan Josh, garlic naan. It was soooo good. Our server Lucky is a mixologist recruited from Goa! Ask about his cocktails, they’re delicious… especially on a hot summer’s day. Highly recommend this place PS the tables are sticky because of the wax coating, not because they’re unclean.
For the price, not many other Indian restaurants are better.
Great food matched with excellent cocktails. Wonderful meal!
MMMMM SO GOOD
Great authentic food, good cocktails!
Finally..an indian restaurant with a great atmosphere and interior design. Food and service was also great! ????
Best Indian food in Victoria!!
Extremely good Indian food, and I loves me my Indian good - never had a bad bite!
Ordered takeout for 7 of us. We had the butter chicken, korma, spinach paneer, mixed grill, pakoras, naan and rice. It was ready on time, used compostable packaging and was the best takeout we've in the last few months. Highly recommend!
AMAZING FOOD! I had the butter curry with veggies, and the vegan garlic naan bread and i was so extremely stuffed but wanted more so so bad ???? absolutely incredible
Service is really good. We enjoyed the buffet .
really good food and nice vibe little bit expencive but still !
Not truly Indian cooking......no cashewnuts paste/ milk in butter chicken but only tomato puree
I ordered Butter Chicken from here last night. Didn't have a single piece of chicken in it. $17 for sauce and a tiny cup of rice. Not impressed. Do NOT recommend. ????
DAIRY FREE option available. I asked about Chicken Tikka if that's something made in dairy ( traditionally marinated in yogurt). The host requested the Chef to make it dairy free and I was given two option either have it made with coconut and spices or mustard oil and spices. I took the mustard oil option and it turned out great in taste. However, It's better to order with some advance time to have your food marinated a bit longer. The green chutney was made without yogurt so do ask for less salt.
Wow!!! we went there for lunch buffet. Naan was so delicious and butter chicken was very good. $13 for person, this much?? amazing and friendly waitress !! love this place so much
Very good Indian food. Chicken and Lamb dishes are halal.
Love the food here. So delicious !
They have renovated and it is significantly larger. Food is excellent with generous portions. Can get a little loud because the space has nothing to absorb sound.
Nice owner.
Good food , great place to hangout
Okay. Not the best. Buffet was disappointing and few options. Overall quality was average. Decor was dated. Nice staff though
Good buffet and really friendly staff.
Been going here for years! It's my go to spot for corporate meetings. They always have such great food and quick service! Recently they have added a great bar which has made it a great after work spot; especially with their happy hour pricing!
Great selection of cultural dishes great staff
Today was a difficult day. My dog died. I couldn't bring myself to cook. It was hard to even go outside. I'm from out of town and was staying at the hotel across the street. I came to Sizzling Tandoori and sat at the bar to force myself to have some nourishment. The food was really nice. And I drank as many beers as I could. But what really made my experience positive, was my server Caitlin. She is genuine and kind. And that was exactly the interaction I needed tonight. Thank tou.
To the owner of this restaurant, Your Naan bread is the worst I have tasted. I'm very positive you are not eating that. Please go take a look what's going on with you kitchen. Your curries are very good. But you can't expect people to eat here if your Naan bread is this bad. It's unbaked most of the times!
Excellent lunch value buffet. Food was excellent and naan was fresh and delicious.
Delicious Indian dishes
Being a foody i tried indian buffet in many places. The food here is really good. All you can eat menu is not bad. There's salad, raita, onions, peppers. And main course has rice, pakora, nan, chicken tandoori, butter chicken, daal makhni, mushroom karhai, zukini curry, chic peas etc. Taste was really good. Worth the price. Its $14 per person! Location is good. In the heart of downtown Victoria. Service is good as well.
Delicious!
Great service, they gave me water as I waited for my takeout to be ready. Delicious tiki nasal and nan bread. Although the rice portions could be a lot bigger!
Hands down my favourite restaurant! Lovely staff, upbeat atmosphere and amazing Indian inspired craft cocktails. Sizzling is my go to restaurant in Victoria!
Fabulous food, great service, affordable.
Great taste and very friendly staff.
Very frustrated because its not halal when they're serving pork and alcohol. And when you ask they say our meats are halal. What a joke.
Understated place! I would highly recommend a visit! The food is flavoured beautifully and spiced exactly ri the level you like it. The service is excellent. We had a new server and she was fantastic. Owner/manager comes by to make sure everything is exactly right for you. Will definitely be back!
Great Food!! Great service!!! been here multiple times and have never been disappointed. by far the best Indian restaurant in Victoria!!
Great tasting lunch buffet with a mix of meat dishes and vegetarian. Quiet restaurant with kind and polite staff always smiling.
Ordered on skip the other night, it was very good. We didn't love the dal mahkni & the chutneys fell short for us, but to be fair half my fiance's family is from India and incredible authentic cooks so the bar is pretty high lol. We will absolutely be back to try more though, every other dish was very enjoyable. That cashew korma and lamb rogan josh just blew me away, the flavor and texture were beautiful.
Excellent food.
One of the best Indian resturant in Victoria I believe !!! Ordered for coconut curry shrimp and it was delicious. The best customer service and the order was on time ... special mention about Malavika, best customer service and keep doing the great work :) they made me one of their loyal customer ????
now lunch time all you can eat buffet is closed.
Delicious! Great vegetarian food!
I love the food and services. The staff is very friendly and caring. If you want to enjoy some real tasty desi food in a nice environment, this is the place!
Great speedy service! Very friendly servers and checked up on us in good time! Menu had a great selection! Food was good too Small location considering how busy it gets
Decent buffet
Just a little place and almost all the tables were reserved, so most of us customers were at the bar, but both the bartender and the waiter looked after us at light speed! That was entertaining enough, but the food was delivered in good time even with the cook in overdrive preparing for the large party! I had the most interesting combination of pomegranate lamb curry! I have dentures so rice is a problem. The rosemary Naan was the perfect solution. And so much lamb! It was tender but, like most meats, still too hard to çhew ????
Had food delivered. Naan was hard as rock and super flat. The chicken in the curry was also hard, not tender at all or flavourful. Very disappointing.
Great service by Sukhbir as she was very professional and very nice. The food was great and the whole family enjoyed it but Sukhbir really made our visit enjoyable
Very good food, Vegan friendly!
Very tasty butter chicken, great service
The food was alright. As an Indian person, I was disappointed but I can see why people from other cultures enjoy the food, drinks etc.
Need to work on the dishes they serve. My mother is a better cook than these chefs of sizzling tandoor. Not worth
Food was not great. we ordered chicken Vindaloo and it was not at all good. other dishes were okay. apart from that they charged 18% of gratuity. they didn't even get a single table for our group but we had to pay 18% extra, i would prefer not to go there again and waste my money
Awesome food and service will definitely come back if I am ever in victoria again :)
I ordered the lamb kebab which sounded great on the menu, but was served overly burnt, tough, very dry, and tasteless. Another in my group ordered his dish "mild". The dish he got was so spicy that he suffered adverse physical effects (we all tried it and agreed it was too spicy to be "mild"). Most of the dishes in the group were not finished, due to the poor quality of the food. The mango sauce was too sickly sweet. The tandoori fish was not too bad, but not enough to bring me back. Afterwards, I was shocked at all the positive reviews I read online. There are much better Indian restaurants in town!
Came to Sizzling Tandoor with no reservation and the staff were very friendly & accommodating. We were sat at the bar where we met the wonderful barman Lucky. His cocktails were amazing and he was an absolute joy to talk to. He made our night! The food was also lovely and we were so happy with our overall experience. Definitely recommend this place! Thanks Lucky from the 4 Irish people at the bar!
Food was awesome. staff was so friendly.
Dine in
Such a great place to eat food and have drinks! I would recommended the Mumbai mule. Our server Lucky was such a great guy and made us feel very welcomed. Best Indian food in Victoria!
I love this place! My family and I go fairly regualrly. The lunch buffet is delicious and pretty cheap and the staff are always friendly!
Tasty food and wonderful service. My son, who’s a picky eater, said that If there are more than 5 stars then he would give that to this place! We ordered coconut curry, Mango curry and butter chicken. All three of them are yummy and the latter is the best!
Visiting from Vancouver. Accidentally stumbled upon this place. One of the best butter chicken I’ve had in a while. Great food!!
Wow! Incredible Indian food! Very friendly service and such a great variety.
I love the place, the smell of spices, the music... it is great if you go solo for a quick dinner or make a reservation for a party to dine in
Loved it! Lots of vegan options, great food! Plus a good choice of cocktails ????
Food is sooo good. Service was a little slow but people have off days. Lunch buffet is the best I have tasted
Went here for dinner with my husband and friend. Right when we walked in the restaurant a woman that greeted us didn't smile. The food that my husband and friend ordered were good but it was weird that one bowl of rice was shared between the both of them. So that didn't make sense because the dishes are separate from each other. Service wasn't so great. We didn't get a refill on water until an hr later, a waitress only came by once to ask how we were doing. Customer service not so much.
Wow! Nice spot with amazing food. Biryani was fantastic, coconut curry was sweet...but the wraps, the wraps are just out of this world!
Girl working there was super polite. Person who attended us n was preparing our table was not there after sometime and we were left hanging for a while, then the girl helped us. Order came after 40 minutes although there were just a couple of tables taken. Food was alright not great.
The butter chicken was very good but not enough menu on the buffet.
Delicious chicken tikka, limited seating, not the cleanest environment. More staff needed.
We had a terrible experience at sizzling tandoor. The food was not bad, but they need to be more respectful to their customers. we had a table of four, ordered four main courses and appetiser. After a while I have ordered a roti. once the waiter went to the station and ordered it, my friend realised it's just a repeat order. we called the waiter right away and cancelled the order. all these events took place in a minute and I could hear the chef screaming from kitchen " are they crazy or what?" surprisingly the two waitress were laughing on his "joke" and I could hear a spatula hitting the kitchen table. I talked about this when I paid my bill but they are least bothered to call the chef and talk about it. I don't prefer or recommend this restaurant to anyone I know, because there are many other good indian restaurants in city
Tasty and delicious indian food
Great food, and to service. Have eaten here a few time and always a delight
Had amazing experience here when was visiting Victoria. Staff is polite and helpful. Food was catered for all folks( spicy and non spicy likers.). Had amazing experience dining here.
Food is delicious and staff is very nice. Recommend for sure
Great lunch buffet. Loved the naan with mint chutney as part of the buffet.
Sizzling tandoor wonderful restaurant provide Great range of Break fast both in north and south indian dishes. amazing
Ordered for pickup, unfortunately they forgot to include all of the rice. Rather than recognizing this as a sizeable component of the experience, they offered to provide a “2 or 3 dollar” credit over the phone. Pretty lame way to accommodate a mistake.
Really nice atmosphere and great food. Price is right.
Amazing amazing food !! Especially the butter chicken was yummm ????.staff is very friendly and kind .The manager, kirn is so good and friendly , she even calmed our 3 month old while we were eating our food ???? while in Victoria , if you want to eat good Indian food , look for no other place ????
Good buffet, two chicken options when I was there opening on Sunday. Fresh, hot and tasty!
Best Indian food in Greater Victoria. One of the best restaurants in town as well.
Limited options to try... Malai chicken was dry... Eggplant curry was good... Rice pudding.. really... i really didn't come to this place to eat food which i can prepare it by myself when I am.in hurry.... Sorry to say, Mantra restaurant have better options....
Small buffet but the food was quite good.
So good, had the eggplant bartha and aloo gobi again, with some veggie pakora and papadum - we get takeout here occasionally, always tasty.
Small buffet for lunch but all the food on it was amazing. Nice people, good service and good food.
The long armed bartender was sizzling :P
Great food! Very good service. Accomadating for a large group. Every dish was perfect! Pleasant atmosphere.
One of my favourite go-to restaurants downtown. Love the food, the people, the space and especially that 90's-2000's playlist.
Food was great.Ambience could be better..just a lol spring cleaning...wud do good
One of my favs
Best Indian dinner in Victoria B.C.! This was an off the menu order to tap into my Goan culture and childhood Indian food memories. We had potato chops with stuffed mince, HomeStyle chicken curry on the bone, Dahl with eggs and caramelized onion and yellow rice and peas. Chef Kamlesh outdid himself tapping into his Himalayan roots. Our server Lucky Singh showed utmost professionalism from his years working the fine dining circuit in India. And he makes a wicked Sidecar!
The chicken and lamb are halal. The start of the service was very good, but got quite a bit slow at the end. No matter, the servers were knowledgeable about the food and very helpful. The Biryani was spiced to perfection and though I do not like nuts and dried fruits in my biryani, this I must say was done well. Definitely coming back to try more stuff.
The food was amazing a little pricey but defs worth it. The chai was horrible though don't get that
Resturants usually have good food but what encourages customers to come again is the customer service... I really liked David's service! he kept checking the table for rounds of drinks and food. he was patient and had a very positive nature!
A wonderful meal. The menu is unique. I had the Curry mussels, Kabuli (fruit stuffed)naan and Sizzling Green Salad. The flavors were all fantastic. My partner had the Aloo Mattar, equally as flavourful. Will definitely go there again on our next visit to Victoria.
Excellent Place, Authentic Indian / Spice / Request Made for food ordered. “Lucky” - The Handsome Hunk - Excellent bartender & Server ????????????????????. I am not a local & would recommend this place for drinks & food for all time. Mmmm so tasty & authentic place. DV / Lucky ???? Yahooooo Team. ✌️????????????????????????.
Great experience everyone! The Lamb Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are my favourite dishes on the menu
Just went to the Grand Opening of the Sizzling Tandoor late night Cocktail + Late night appiess bar. Exceptional service ????. For a busy night the staff were dedicated to treating every individual. The cocktail menu was diverse and fun to try out. Would recommend to anybody looking for a place to relax and unwind late night or pre-game ???? to a night of fun at various locations nearby downtown. Will be coming back and recommending to friends! Enjoy responsibily.
Great service and delicious food. Really pleased we spent our final night on the island here. Thoroughly recommend.
Good food, quick service.
Great food, very vegetarian friendly!!
Enjoyed the food, and had plenty leftover to take home.
Service
One of my favourite places to eat in town. I especially love this location; the atmosphere is there is great. Mango Lemonade and a few trips to the buffet should turn anyone's day around.
Authentic Indian food, friendly staff and very reasonably priced
It's a decent place with an option to sit at the bar. Do checkout their tandoor options because we tried paneer Tikka tandoor and we absolutely loved it. The marination was great and it retained the softness of paneer.. It comes with a chutney.. which I felt could have been better. We also tried kadhi pakora.. which was little sour and potato naan, which was okay. The rasmalai was awesome and a must try!!
Although the service was good, I disliked the chicken biryani because it tasted nothing like a traditional Indian biryani should have. Customers would not get a real taste of Indian food. It included unnecessary things such as cashews and raisins which ruined the taste of the rice. The chicken was bland although we had ordered a spicy dish.
One of the worst place to have your food. No customer service at all, almost three times I tried to ask the person for a glass of water n he ignored and the Biryani was no way can be called so. As it was more like a fried rice, no taste at all The staff was not very clear when I put my order as they were in so rush that they didn't even try to understand my order. I would recommend against going out there, try some other but do not waste your time and money.
Staffs are very polite and food was delicious. I'll be returning, hungry for more ????
Great lunch buffet
Very worst food.no flavor at all.the tandoori dishes served with no sauces and dipping? ? No kidding. Service is not that great. Very disappointed.
Loved the coconut chicken, I miss a desh korma place in bath England and this curry house is da best I found sofar.
This review is for 'Skip the Dishes' customers whom are ordering as takeout. First off, Skip the Dishes employee was very friendly, and in no way am I insulting their service as they have nothing to do with this review. We ordered two orders of butter chicken curry, and one order of a butter chicken poutine. One butter chicken was medium for spice level, one was hot, and the poutine was very hot. We received three butter chicken curry orders; two were labeled plain 'hot' and the third was a mystery. The curry itself was good, hence the two stars, but our entire order was out of whack (I really wanted the poutine and extra spicy). Plus doing takeout, we had a miniscule amount of basmati rice, which is the opposite of what you get in the restaurant. All in all, we will not be ordering from here again. So just be careful with their takeout option, and prepare for disappointment.
Great, amazing food. But when your take out order is given only half the rice compared to every other time it's been ordered... Bad for portion control. Consistency is huge, and being given half just once is one time too many.
We ordered paneer naan and tomato soup through skip. And while eating we found a piece of chicken wrapped in between the naans which is very awful thing on their part and disgusting for us as we are pure vegetarians. But what if we were allergic who was going to be responsible for that. This shows how irresponsible they are. There should never be any cross contamination in between products. So how it happened??? If there is a negative star i must have given that. Never going back at their restaurant.
Served reheated vegetable pakoras and I got upset stomach only after couple of hours of eating there . However service was good.
Awesome place. Great atmosphere and great food. Lots of vegan options and a few unique drinks and dishes. I can't wait to go back!
Great menu, with both traditional and naan-traditional dishes. They have a reasonably priced buffet that includes a selection of favourites to choose from, including vegetarian options. Would definitely recommend!
Very good!
Food is good especially Malai Chicken. The spices are just the right amount as we like it. The place, however, needs a lot of cleaning. The floor is quite dirty and needs a thorough cleansing . So do the tables etc. There were only two people to attend to the customers which is very less considering it was a weekend. They both were obviously overworked and probably in that hurry, one of the attendants kept used, improperly cleaned Cutlery on our table. The water was served halfway through the lunch. While taking the buffet, the cursory glance at the kitchen, through the open door, was not very convincing regarding the hygiene ! The seating is cramped ! So even though the food was good, We did not really enjoy the visit. It was " finish fast & move out ". Hope the management will consider the above issues.
Good indian cuisines
Good food
Just ordered butter chicken, salad and paneer pakora on skip the dishes. I think I said “Mmm” out loud the entire time I was eating ! Good gluten free options too ????????????????
Been coming here for almost 10 years. Unfortunately tonight will be the last time. Tandoori chicken had no taste combined with vey small pieces , not Tandoori at all and other eggplant dish was average at best. The manager refused to talk to us and offered a 10% discount as if that’s what we wanted. Sorry, but people must not have had real Indian food to rate this place with 5 stars. Stay away - mediocre at best.
Easily the best Indian food that I've tried in Victoria!
Amazing food! Never had a bad dish!
The buffet was tasty and not pricey. The service was excellent
Gary the Gamer is an all-around decent guy who loves his video games and Paneer Tikka Massala. When he orders food he leaves a review to make sure the staff feel loved and respected.
Forever my favorite Indian restaurant in Victoria ???? top food, amazing cocktails, lovely service and a great ambiance
Lunch buffet was awful. No flavor and variety, but still it was kind of busy. I think most of the people were tourists and there are not many Indian restaurants around. I doubt anyone would eat here second time. This place needs some serious improvement.
Ventured off the beaten path and tried the Butter chicken with Poutine and did not disappoint! Thoroughly enjoyed this place with the wife, must include this as a stop on your list if you are in town. Do not miss!
Without a doubt the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to. Extremely well managed, and killer service at every turn. Amazing buffet lunch? Check. Modern downtown atmosphere for dinner? Check. Special event catering that will blow your guests away? Definitely a check.
I had weekday lunch buffet. Spice level were good but variety was a little fewer than the uptown mall place.
Best Indian food in Victoria. Wouldn't go anywhere else on the island.
Excellent food, friendly staff, reasonable pricing. Couldn't ask for more.
Awesome food great service. Ambience is marvelous. Thanks team Tandoor for making it a great evening for us. !!!
Dinner
Fave Indian food in Victoria! They are always consistent and both medium and mild dishes have great flavour. My favourite is the palak paneer.
The buffet was very tasty. It's not the best Indian restaurant but it passes at a beginner level. The staff were very pleasant.
Best Indian restaurant in town with great food and value for money. Amazing cocktails and mind blowing ambience.
The front desk guy forget to ask his name is very courteous. The food was amazingly delicious and well cooked just the right spices for kids to enjoy. Loved the naan and butter chicken n Karahi chicken.no dine in currently.
Meal type
Meh. Sizzling T is an East I restaurant in a city of 80,000. New customer's can align expectations accordingly. Victoria is experiencing an East I vacuum after Da T closed without notice.
I had just a tomato soup and naan bread. The bread was fine, but the soup was awful. I could not taste much tomato because the spices over whelmed the rest of the soup. The menu should have read spice soup with tomato added. Then there was the "background" music. It was obnoxious rap and too loud to ignore. They did do a lot of takeout business while I was there so they must have great main menu items. I may eat there another day for their main menu items but only if the music is turned off.
The best chicken cashew carry in town
Best in Victoria. Try the Sizzling Tandoori chicken and you will fall in love with the food here.
Great place!
Fantastic lunch buffet, service and atmosphere ❤️
The butter chicken was perfect!
Just ok
Delicious!
Service
The meal started ok with Pakora and Samosas. They were ok, hence the one star. Then came the vegetable pomegranate curry and naan bread. The curry tasted like it was from a grocery store jar. It was hot which I requested but other than that, not much flavour at all. For a vegetable curry it was distinctly lacking in vegetables. It was mainly filled with carrots which were not fresh. They were the frozen ones cut in wavy lines that you buy already cut in bags. The texture of them in the curry was awful. Other than a bit of eggplant and two chunks of potato that was it. The naan bread was the worst I have ever eaten. Really doughy with almost an uncooked flavour and texture. Really unpleasant and inedible. I was really, really disappointed and would not recommend or ever visit again.
Super quality. Never had curry over linguini but it totally works - and the more traditional dishes are rockin, too.
Amazing food Amazing staff
Nice
I wish I discovered this place before. I walk this part of town if I wanna buy a comic book or repair my shoe, so never. Great food and cosy place. Looks upscale for Indian food and the menu and quality matches. Definitely going back for Indian fix.
I recently dined at The sizzling Tandoor Restaurant on johnson street. The service was fast and pleasant. I ordered the Lamb Rogan Josh. It was delicious and authentic. 10/10 ill definitely be back.
My wife and I favorite Indian restaurant in downtown Victoria. Clean with lots of seating, The food is excellent. I recommend the Tandoori chicken.
Terrible service giving you two star Food was good but took forever to get on the table
Nice staff, good food, butter chicken was just okay
Very tasty. Highly recommended. Love the butter chicken and tandoori.. and especially the wife varieties in buffet for lunch is very tasty.. price is very reasonable ????????
best curry in town
So so food.Clean and tidy. Buffet small amount of choices. Mild with not a lot flavour. Pleasant staff but did not follow through on requests for beverages. Kind of like McDonald's of Indian cuisine. Not bad but not exceptional.
The owner who created the menu was cooking and it was absolutely perfect. My partner and I travelled India for 3 months last year and this is the most authentic Indian food we have found since. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Highly recommended! They renovated and have a fancy new bar too.
Not a good food. Waste of money
Best butter chicken in town! They have a lovely lunch buffet and they are my go to Indian restaurant in Victoria.
Nice Indian restaurant ????????
Well it WAS our favorite spot for Indian food and sadly they change their chef! We gave it two times and we didn’t like it… Looking for a new one! Won’t go there again!
Flavourful butter chicken (mild because I'm white) You know it's good when a Sikh walks out of the kitchen.
An excellent restaurant and one of the few places where I have found Kabuli Naan. Not sure if they still sell it but it is delicious and rare to find anywhere else.
Awesome music, great food, fast service, HUGE portions!! 10/10 would recommend Ps. Butter chicken 50% off mondays which is also G.O.A.T. move
This spot has recently been renovated, and quite stylishly. There is a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Their daily bar specials are a really good deal, too. Service is prompt and really friendly, and quite affordable!
Really flavorful Indian lunch buffet
The service was excellent. The food was amazing. Just the right amount of spice.
I was hoping to see a -5 negative rating if possible. The worst Indian Food I ever had in North America. They are a big black spot in the name of Indian Food. Let me dissect it for you. When we walked in, a blonde waitress asked us to take any table... And when we chose one to sit, she said 'except this one and the adjacent one'. That was a warm welcome. We walk to the buffet stand and see same old low grade Indian Restaurant menu being served. We chose to order. Firstly, there was a mix up on the beer. I asked for a Lager and I am served a Hoyne Pilsner. Not a bad beer. For appetizer, the waiter suggested us to try Paneer Pakora. What do we get, pieces of Paneer glazed with Spinach paste and batter fried. Bland was the taste. 8 pieces were served... We ate 6, coz of hunger. Rest of them, left for the restaurant to decide. Waiter suggested us to order 'Chicken Tikka Masala' (apparently he orders the same). What do we get... 2 Inch diced boiled chicken in tomato paste. The inside of the chicken was cold. Just being a South Indian, I asked for 'Hot'... So what do they do.... They add Red Chilli Powder... The chef was very generous to add an extra spoon to show his love. I am writing about the red chilli powder because, I clearly asked the waiter to ask the chef to make it Hot, by adding Green Chillies and not Red Chilli Powder. I ate one piece of chicken. Rest of the Tikka Masala, again left for the restaurant to decide. Roti and Naan were decent... No complains. Rice - Dried... not cooked. I am not kidding, grains were dry as if they were dried under the sun. I even told the same to the waiter. Waiter walks by, I tell that the food is funny, he tried to understand my problem with the food and offers to remake the food. Unfortunately, he did not understand that food has to be served right in the first place. No one would like their food to be remade. Now, here comes the best part. I ask for the bill... Waiter saw that our food is not eaten, he still charges me full amount without any shame. I paid $38 dollars for the food which was less than half eaten. While paying the bill, all I could say to the waiter is that "I am paying this bill not for food, but for Beer and letting us use the Washroom". I am very sure that the people in the restaurant will recognize me after reading this review. Strong suggestion to people who want to visit this place.... PLEASE DON'T GO.
I like the location and ambience, good sitting arrangement and tasty food, though the buffet did not have a lot of options/items that you would find in other places, but the food was good and served hot.
Great service and food! Couldn’t be happier with our dining experience this evening. Our server Shona was exceptional, we will definitely be back.
Ordered vegetarian meals for takeaway and got served chicken.
Dinner
Sizzling Tandoor offers a all variety of indian food and the restaurant is very good. yeah i have firstly read the site and than imagine the service are all good..
Wow. Incredible food and a family owned restaurant. Service is awesome and they go the extra mile to make sure you’re taken care of! The Veg Pakoras are amazing as well as the Shahi Paneer and Manchurian. So glad we found this authentic gem in the middle of Downtown Victoria!
I don't understand how this place is so empty. The food is top notch and the prices are absolutely pocket friendly. Must try shahi paneer and butter chicken. Oh you also get treated by ever so friendly hosts and Indian music and awesome desert.
Awesome food n peaceful ambience
Love the new fresh look. Great buffet ????
So authentic and tasty. Excellent portions and delectables that are created with care.
I have eaten here for many years. It is consistently excellent food.
Incredible. Had the Kashmiri Kofta. Was brilliant. Comes with a smaller portion of basmati (which itself was great), but I was glad that I also ordered naan - was super hungry. Will go back, 100%.
Good value lunch buffet
Staff is awesome and the food will not disappoint. Make sure you're clear on how spicy you want it.
(Translated) You can adjust the hotness. The spinach curry was like Genovese. (Original) 辛さが調整できます。ほうれん草のカレーはジェノベーゼみたいでしたね。
I have never given a bad review but for these guys, if I could give them a negative rating I would. The service was below average. Our server barely checked in on us, forgot to bring an item, were extremely slow and when we asked why, she was sassy with her answer saying "we're busy". Idk what's worse... the service or the fact that the food was TERRIBLE. It tasted bad and the portionings were extremely small. Never coming back.
Good food .nice tastey food. But "Cution " at checkout they add tip by themself without asking customers.they add 18% Tipton ur bill.
Great food, friendly staff and a very clean place
When vegetarian friends from Dallas were finally able to travel to Victoria recently, they requested a return visit to Sizzling Tandoor. The staff are terrific - helpful and friendly and they always treat us superbly. The food was great with lots of vegetarian options. Will be returning soon!
Very bland and low quality food. We asked for mild, but all items lacked flavour. Mild spice level does not mean bland. Most of the items served felt like frozen items thawed and heated before serving. Not at all recommended!!
Service was slow and inattentive at 1ish when less than half the tables were occupied. I never received the water I ordered . The food was good and satisfying. The redecorating while apparently finished looks like an urban squat, with bare brick and drywall sanded to a dusty bright white. The most inappropriate music for an Indian restaurant was loud enough to make quiet, discreet conversation with my companion impossible. The remodel focuses primarily on the bar. Who's prices reflect the urban hipster vibe of the entire experience. Food good. Else, not for a loyal customer. I imagine it will do well for its new focus group.
There is not a whole lot of selection for the price. Other than the butter chicken everything else is lackluster. The new place in Esquimalt is better.
Good food and very timely but I was super thrown off by how little rice was provided. Like they have separate cups to give you a smaller portion of rice. And for how much rice costs I can’t imagine it’d hurt to much to give a couple of extra spoonfuls so I have enough. I will say they were delicious though super well done but for the price for what was provided, I wasn’t super ecstatic
Our food took a very long time to be prepared. We ordered the chicken tenders with masala fries & mint chutney, but only received the chicken tenders. They were cold and the batter tasted like fish sticks. After our food was delivered they told us that they were out of masala fries so just gave us extra chicken, instead of informing us. As well, the portions were extremely small. $18 for lamb vindaloo in a small container? 2 stars because the curries (lamb vindaloo and chicken mango curry) were good. However, most other Indian restaurants in town are better and give generous portions for a good price.

Very Busy place. Actually we did take away. Food had authentic Indian taste. We had chicken biryani. Loved it. Must go for Auth Indian Food. ????????
(Translated) Excellent service by Lucky! The food was delicious, quick service and the quantities were generous! Very good atmosphere, I recommend for a good evening! (Original) Excellent service par Lucky! Le nourriture était délicieuse, un service rapide et les quantités était généreuse! Très bonne ambiance, je recommende pour une bonne soirée!
This is a tried and true lunch buffet. The food quality is very consistent and a solid value. The dinner menu is fantastic ad I am a bit picky. The fish pakoras are really worth the trip. Nice work staff!
Stop using the frozen vegetable medley from costco its gross. Some food items came out cold. We were fairly certain the lentil dish was off. Was most likely not made to order. If I'm paying $80 for food for two it better be fresh and made to order.... Get it together. The servers are down to earth chill and nice. Get some food to complement the service.
Best Indian food in Victoria!! I have been to many Indian cuisine restaurants, and this is by far my favourite. Extremely tasty, fair priced dishes, clean open space, and excellent staff. Must try their chai and korma curry.
Wonderful and attentive wait staff. The bartender was phenomenal and was creating custom cocktails and mocktails that were amazing.
Ok
Good India food with good taste.
Poor quality food.
Honestly, the best Indian restaurant in victoria. Service isn't that fast but prompt enough and correct orders taken and overall customer service is great !
Amazing food
Our first dinner in Victoria was full of spice, flavor, and friendly service. Sizzling tandoori is a stellar location - get two samosas to warm up the palette with a beautifully balanced flavor, chicken tikka with rice, and garlic naan! The perfect size email for two, do not miss it! Good happy hour specials too! Wonderfully nice server and a brilliant dinner (mild, asked for it), without getting overpowered.
We had a really great meal in here. We originally had a table booked at another restaurant but upon arriving we didn’t like the vibe so pulled an abrupt 180, it was like, totally not our vibe. It was also fairly quiet when we arrived at Sizzling Tandoor, however the fantastic Indian inspired cocktails got the vibe going very quickly. Our server/cocktail savant Lucky was super helpful and friendly, gave great recommendations on both food and drinks and the history of the place. We were apprehensive it wouldn’t meet our high standards of our favourite Vancouver Indian Restaurant (Tasty Indian Bistro - great vibe, check it out) but it was definitely on par. Great experience and would love to come back. Vibez.
Meal type
Really good customer service from the manager. Great food and drink selection. Taste was very satisfactory. Definitely enjoyed our meal. Price was reasonable. Would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for good Indian food.
Loved the food! Tried their chicken Karhai, butter chicken, naan, tandoori Alfredo and Cesar salad. If you are in town, definitely try it. Delicious food.
nice reno , great food, good value.
my favourite Indian restaurant in Victoria since they opened - always delicious. the biryani, vindaloo, and paneer tikka masala is my go to!
Delicious biryani and masala chai
Taste was fine however we asked them to make the food mild for our kids and they put too much spice in the curries. And I am an Indian.i can take the spice but not the kids
Quick service, excellent food, lots of options and a handsome server. Win win win!
Delicious food! Large portions. And excellent service! The best Indian food we've eaten in a while.
Nice little cozy place, always good buffet and service
