The fried rice had zero flavor, the pad Thai was mediocre at best. I think they try to make up for the lack of flavor offering to make things spicy. I'll give it two stars for the free sparkling water. The food looked good, but didn't taste nearly as good

The food is pretty good even though their spiciness is hotter than you would expect. Downtown restaurants all seem to suffer from bathroom problems. You get the door code from the staff. Still, the bathrooms are disgusting.

If I could give this place zero stars today I would. We ordered noodle box for lunch today from this location, not even half way through eating my co-worker found metal wire in hers, I wouldn’t have believed it if I wasn’t there. I called to tell them what happened and I got “it happens”, they were supposed to call back and still no call back to this point. This is so dangerous, had my co-worker eaten this without looking it would’ve been a disaster. Please be careful when ordering from here, if you do, this is NOT okay!!!! We will not be ordering from here again!

Or maybe I lucked out on choosing the special. Either way, I've got them back up for downtown dinner considerations... Especially for quick dinners!

There was a time where I would have given this place 5 stars and that was back in 2011 when I started coming here. So I’m always left with the fact that it isn’t as good as it used to be. But that said the spicy peanut is very good and my favorite dish. The Kung pao box is always quite good. Can get it as spicy as you want too. I’ve tried the spiciest and it is VERY spicy.

(Translated) They lack a lot of seasoning in their meals. We ordered 3 different orders and only 1 order was good which was the teriyaki box. The ones we didn't like were "chinese style fried rice box" and "spicy peanut noodle box". They had no flavor at all, I asked for soy sauce thinking it was going to taste better and not even like that. (Original) Les falta mucha sazón en sus comidas. Half the staff were not wearing their masks correctly which was concerning as one of them was cooking. The worst was the mouse that ran by me while I was waiting. I ordered the pad thai and my husband ordered the curry box. The pad thai was very sour and that's all I could taste. The curry box had no flavour. We chose this place out of convenience right after we stepped off the bus. After the meal, we found out that there were lots of other restaurants one street over.

This place is awesome. The thai style chow mein was the best meal I have had in a long time. Just fantastic cooking, high quality ingredients. The restaurant has good atmosphere but is quite loud. Take it to go if you have kids or just want quiet. Medium spice is as much as you should take unless you like to eat plain habeneros. Spring rolls weren't so good and too expensive.

Order the Chinese style fried rice twice and was completely missing ingredients both times (I order this from Langford location and it’s great every time!) when calling their store to let them know I was told to bring meal back and would offer $5 voucher on a $10 meal. Not impressed and won’t be back.

Second time we’ve been where they got the order wrong. Out of three visits. Consistency also remains an issue, as you never know what you’ll get. It’s honestly just junk, wrapped in an appealing hip package. This location, the one in Kits that we went to before, none of them are worth going to.

Unfortunately I have recieved the wrong sauce both times from this location. I exclusively eat the Black Bean and Garlic box, and it has this certain sweetness to it that has me totally hooked. I've ordered once from the noodle box app, and once from Uber eats and the sauce was incorrect both times. Either they gave me the wrong sauce, or they make it different there, either way it is not good at all I'm not sure if they make sauce from scratch. This is not my experience with the Uptown location where the sauce is consistent and delicious every time.

I tried Noodlebox again today, for the first time in a couple years, and it's still really disappointing. I won't be going back again. The quality of ingredients seems good but there's very little flavour in the dishes and the bottom line is the menu items just aren't worth the price they're charging. If you're a big fan of Thai and Vietnamese cuisine, like I am, you'll be much more satisfied dining at one of the many independently owned Asian restaurants in Victoria that offer delicious menu items.

We went to this one because we enjoyed the food from our last (first) experience (different storefront). However, for a fast food place, it took more than 15 minutes to get our food and then the staff gave me attitude when I went to claim my order. The food is good, but the service at this particular store is lacking. If I lived in the area, I would avoid this particular storefront.

Haven’t had noodlebox in awhile. Tried it today cause I wanted something quick for lunch. Service was slow and the food has seriously gone downhill, like drastically. Should have just listened to everyone who said it’s not the same anymore and saved my money. Staff was slow, but were very kind and helpful so at least they have that going for them.

Well, no experience to share really as we weren't acknowledged or offered a menu. We waited all of 4 to 5 minutes and just walked out. Not like they were busy, we were the only customers; the other guy was waiting for his take out order. Won't bother again. Thank God the Old Spaghetti Factory was open where food and service is top notch.

Food is excellent as always, but you need to clear something up. If people call for pick up and see their food is ready, can you please do the "zipper merge" and let them pay for it and get out please? Stood for 5 minutes at the "pick up here" corner and watched my food get cold - could clearly see a box with my name on it while a lady was asking what are the ingredients in a spicy peanut box :-/ All I wanted to do is to tap my card and the cashier asked me to go in line behind 6 people who took at least 3 minutes each to order, decide on the ingredients and pay :(

Ordered from this restaurant on skip the dishes. Ordered their pad thai and specified vegetarian.(the website also lists ingredients for the pad thai which doesn't include the fish sauce) Got the noodles, delivery guy was very nice. Sat down to eat the food and an overwhelming fish smell came from the food I had ordered. Being a vegetarian i do not eat fish so i was taken back after specifying vegetarian on my order. Generally I wouldn't write a bad review if the situation is fixed because people make mistakes and that's totally fine. We phoned them and they argued with us about vegetarians eating fish (those are pescetarians) instead of offering to fix the problem itself. Claiming they hadn't done anything wrong and after 2 phone calls with them denying any wrong doing and refusing to help us I've wasted 15$ and will never order in person or online from noodlebox again. I'm very disappointed in the reluctance to fix the problem, instead of arguing with us about small details like vegetarians eating fish (which they don't) they could have just offered to fix the issue...

Had very few noodles in my teriyaki box so I informed the server who agreed to add more. They ended up adding a ridiculous amount on top which was barely cooked. Definitely think they did it out of spite. Wont be going to this location anymore

I eat here more than I'd like to admit. The problem is consistency. I always get the exact same thing every time and it's totally hit or miss. Sometimes it's extremely good, lots veggies, sauce, and prawns. Other times you might not find any veggies and the sauce is bland, with the noodles almost dry. There's very little differences in the spiciness scale until you go from hot to super hot. It goes from barely spicy to so spicy you can barely eat it. Would be nice to have everything be more consistent.

First time coming, service and food was good. Next time I asked for ginger beef but with noodles instead. The “chef”, asked if I was gluten free and said “you can eat noodles but not rice?” I just said I’d prefer noodles. I was told they can substitute because it changes the price point. What is the cost difference of noodles to rice, .25cents?! With all the three places that are cheaper, bigger servings and want your business, I don’t know why I even bothered to go here.

If your looking for an original place to check out.. look no further ... it began as a street car and later they opened up their first seated location ... food is easy to order..pick what U like, choose your protein and your spice.. and you're golden!! Its a big portion, they stuff lots into that box ... dont think U need 2 however always great to have leftovers

Noodle box is one of my favourites, but this particular location has consistently (I’ve eaten at this location 5-6 times) served me the worst takeout I have ever had. Undercooked noodles, swamps of sauce, you name it.

Absolutely loved it. I had the "Scorching Hot" peanut sauce prawn noodle box and it was lit. The staff warned me about the heat level and I was up for the challenge. Totally worth it. Little sweat but nothing a brown boy from the south can't handle.

This place intrigued me since noodle is one of my favorite dish. It was very salty when I ordered Chinese style fried rice box combo (chicken and shrimp) and Thai style chow mein box bbq pork. The guy offered me a replacement and then it was tasteless and bitter. Never had any experience like this. I gave 3 stars (for the service) because of the effort that he was trying to give in but taste was well below my expectation.

Food was great, I had a Singapore cashew curry and my wife had the spicy penut box. It was a little slow when we arrived, there was only one other table in the shop at the time. The only reason I'm not giving the full five stars is we had to wait to order as the front of house staff was socializing for the first few moments after we arrived rather than taking our orders.

Food is really good and fairly consistent from visit to visit. A little pricey, but lots of food, and usually does for a couple of meals. Can tend to be quite slow from order to receiving food, so may not be the best place to stop by for a quick bite to eat at lunch. Overall, a great place to eat when you have the time.

Service was quick and the food was average quality. They don't take credit cards (or at least claimed not to after discovering that we were Americans). Not being able to divide the total in Canadian dollars by 1.33 (that day's exchange rate) so that we could pay fairly in US dollars peeved us a bit. So we way overpaid for average bowls of noodles.

Noodlebox is a cute, inexpensive restaurant where you order at the counter. They have different flavors (like coconut green curry or peanut sauce) of noodle bowls tossed with various veggies. You can choose to add protein (like an egg or chicken), and decide how spicy you want it. Anything over 2 stars is gonna burn, and if you like it hot, they have ultra spicy options!

Top-Class food box!!! ---both quantity and quality. If you're not too hungry, you can ask for a Split and the portions are sufficient. Food is absolutely tasty and fresh! It's great for vegetarians and vegans. We tried Thai style chow Mai and butter chicken dish ---all dishes are repeat worthy. The place is also cool, good music, and a casual dining experience. The new owners are very nice and offer outstanding customer service.

Very boring and bland for such a high price. The Kung Pao box, even though ordered mild-medium, was so spicy the only flavour you could taste was your mouth burning. Very disappointed in this food.

When the cost of the food starts to exceed the quality it's time to find a new place to eat. This place used to be a little street food cart in China Town, selling generous and tasty noodles in a box cooked by the owner himself. Then he opened his first restaurant on Fisgard and then this one on lower Douglas hiring a bunch of kids to cook his dishes. Last night was the very last time I will eat at Noodle Box. I ordered a Spicy Peanut sauce dish with Tofu and Rice and what I got was a box of bland coconut water mush that didn't taste anything like peanut sauce. Shame. I used to really like this place and Victoria really needs more street food places. Don't waste your money here. If you want quality food worth the price then check out The Little Thai Place or J&J Noodle House.

What made today's visit really special was the utmost care taken with regards to the entire customer experience, right from greetings to proper customization to quick prep times to perfect taste. The location is excellent as it is walking distance from the sea plane terminal and the parliament building and is the most suitable for tourists. Keep up the good work. Excellent service.

Food was good. Service wasn’t. I asked to cancel my order because it was taking too long. I was told he could only cancel one item because the other was made already. I watched as people coming in after me received their food before me. I told him I’d leave a review about this. He then offered a full refund. I didn’t take it. Instead I waited while the cook prepared one dish at a time when there’s 6 cooking stations! I think the service industry needs to dust off their manners and stop using COVID as a shield to hide behind when their service is substandard. I just read the owner’s response which is truly pathetic. “They gave me my food before it was my turn?” If one box was ready doesn’t that mean the cook was preparing mine already? And, that’s his reply to justify the poor service? Reading the other reviews it seems this place has a problem with timeliness of preparing food. I think it’s best to pass on this place.

We got there 20 minutes after they opened, and said that they aren't ready for customers yet. We waited anyway only to have bland noodles and weird tasting chicken. There was also maybe 3 or 4 tiny pieces of chicken in it. The place looked like it had never been cleaned, tables were sticky, water faucet even had dust all over it. 0 stars if possible.

Flavorful and fresh, something for everyone, and ability to customize to varying levels of spice. Gal behind the counter was delightful, even brought our dog a bowl of water out front and was sweet to my kids. Only improvement I would recommend would be to go a tough lighter on the sauce. Maybe personal preference, but 5 of us took our noodles to go and on the bottom 1/4 of each box was way too much sauce. It was still great flavor, I'd just ask for lighter sauce next time.

The Nanaimo Bar Spring Rolls are heaven. Unfortunately, their noodle dishes are always really bland. Last time I had to add a bunch of salt to a curry dish. Its too bad. I remember this place being a lot better about a decade ago but it's seemed to go downhill since then. The nice thing about this place though is that they have a lot of options (vegan, gluten-free, vegetarian...) as well as ocean wise prawns.

Other times I strongly feel that they have taken my broccoli and cut the pieces in half and they expect customers not to notice this. I am a regular customer here and always went there for Pad Thai. But it's hit and miss. I have Pad Thai with chicken today. And as an Asian origin, I thought I could handle salty food, but that Pad Thai was so salty and watery. It was like a soup with a lot of salty broth. Let's your cooks know that they need to stick with one recipe, every time I went there I can feel a difference in the taste, the amount of broth, sometimes it's too salty, sometimes it's too sour or too much salty broth.

I ordered Pad Thai in the restaurant. It tasted bland and I noticed there's no cilantro and tiny stingy amount of peanut in my bowl, although their menu on the board says cilantro and roasted peanut. I asked the kitchen girl and she coldly said "extra peanut, extra charge." I argued and came back with my bowl to show her. She passed me a bowl of cilantro and peanut without a word, no apologies or nothing. It was a very unpleasant place to dine.

Really disappointed with this location. 2 out of 3 of our experiences have been relatively poor here. Today we got a mild and a hot box and they were labeled incorrectly which resulted in the person who wanted the hot eating the mild thinking they just failed to make it correctly. Then the person who wanted the mild couldn't eat the hot box and it really put a damper on things. I also took a video of the staff not wearing a mask properly for quite a long period of time so that's great.

Ordered the Kid Box to-go for my son and paid extra for chicken. Dug through to the bottom of the box thinking maybe the chicken got buried. No, this is all the chicken he got. Seriously? Sure, the noodles tasted good, but when I'm paying $2 for meat, I expect more that 2 tiny pieces of it. Will never go back.

I used to go to Noodlebox regularly about three years ago and the food was always delicious no matter what I picked but after my recent visit wirh my family I must say I was disappointed. The food was very one note, all 6 dishes tasted basicly the same with little variation. Very disappointing and I will definitely not be back.

Just your typical asian cuisine, be careful about going for the spicy option, being a lover of hot food i was like eh, lets get the hottest you got, needless to say after eating my meal my stomach was on fire, and well the next morning my toilet got a few new coats of paint, overall pretty decent food though !

Wow this place has changed. It used to be standing room only. This last time I was 1 of only 2 people here. Granted, Covid has put a damper on takeout too. The did not have the advertised new Italian bowl, but were very quick to reach out to us and let us know. Food was pretty good. Service was quick.

Was recommended in my travel guide. Does exactly what you'd expect. I had the Cambodean jungle curry which was tasty and filling (although I was in Cambodia about a year ago and didn't come across a similar dish). Would recommend.

bland and tasteless.. just no flavor. presentation was nice, i thought "oh that looks soooo good!" but instead of satisfaction i bit into savory disappointment. I thought maybe my GF's Pad Thai would be better, but alas, it was lackluster as well. I would have rather spent 3.50 on a presidents choice microwave meal equivalent. I remarked to myself while struggling through my meal how sadly exceedingly delicious these were (even without MSG), and think of the savings!

Very disappointed with the quality of food and service of this location. We ordered 3 boxes from them and they were all taste less and missing the protein from them. They were all full of veggies and no noodles. I don't recommend ever going there they have gone down hill and should be shut down or restructured something needs to change.

I've been coming to this Noodlebox location off and on since 2004. Spicy peanut is my favourite; Malay Style Friend Rice is a close second. I think the restaurant looks great after the renovation. I really enjoy the atmosphere here. Lately, when it comes to the food, this place seems to have hit a rough spot. Some of my more recent boxes have been bland and watery... Perhaps they've changed ingredient suppliers, hired new cooks, or its just a string of bad luck... or maybe my palate has expanded over the years. Who knows? I'm keeping my rating at 4 stars as I don't think the recent string should negate a decade plus of good times. Hopefully recent experiences are just a blip.

Delicious! I recommend the Spicy Peanut Noodle Box. I wouldn't necessarily consider this fast food, as it does take a few minutes to receive an order, but it is definitely worth it. There is free plain or sparkling water available and a variety of other drink options, including beer and wine (for dine-in only). For the vegan and vegetarians, there are many options to choose from and they make it really easy (there are labels on the menu and they ask about restrictions when ordering). Note, if a dish seems vegetarian, make sure to still specify, since there is fish sauce in many of the options. Lastly, something I really admire about this place is their sustainability practices. Everything from Noodlebox can be either composted, recycled, or reused. Also, they use sustainable choices in their store design and decor.

Just ordered my favorite meal, spicy peanut box, it was so salty I could hardly eat it at all. Douglas St Victoria, what the heck have you done!? To be fare, this is the first time I have been unsatisfied by the food from there. It just tasted like it was made by someone who has never had this meal before. I am not ordering from this location again.

The food is tasty. But let us discuss value. While technically the menu does not specify a quantity of prawns, one would assume that at a price of $4.50, the number would be more than 5. Taxes in, that's about a buck a prawn. To be clear, these are not jumbo prawns. They would be too small to serve as an appetizer. The price being asked for these 5 prawns is, in fact, what a 1 lb bag would cost at a grocery store. Now I get that markup is a thing, but c'mon. Try to at least pretend to be serving something beyond overpriced noodles.

One thing that seems to always be on at this location is LOUD MUSIC. Every time I go in I can't wait to get out. I had the Pad Thai last week and is was awfully dry so this week I tried the Spicy Peanut and it was a lot saucier. YUM! There are so many choices around town for saucy noodles so I will not return.

Still a guilty pleasure, love the Spicy Peanut Noodle Box with Chicken. It is generally very yummy and they are happy to make it spicy if you enjoy spicy food. It is an easy pick-up meal. Dining area is nice and simple but not very intimate.

Ordered the Thai Style Soy&Ginger Chowmein noodles today, very disappointed. Not how Noodlebox used to be.. Perhaps the cooks they've hired or this one specifically is lazy and inexperienced? It was completely tastless and even though I ordered no protein with it all it was was bland noodles (couldn't even tell if there was the supposed ginger and soya sauce added as it stated) with a few green onions and mostly sprouts. Not going again

We waited for almost half hour. The noodle was good though it definitely should be the "No spicy" option. Their mild spicy was too spicy for me. Also, the staff doesn't cover their hair at all.

If you are in a hurry, you may be prepared to wait long. We waited 45 minutes for the noodle. As a result, I was late for my work meeting. My husband ordered the Singaporean noodle (vegetarian).We are vegetarians. He ended up finding shrimps in his box. They might be under staffed due to the ongoing pandemic. There were only two employees working here. One person was cooking. There were more than 15 people eating or waiting to eat there. The food is tasty though, but the wait and shrimps in the noodle made me hesitate to go back. Maybe it's just the staff shortage? Nice ambience. The place looks clean.

Wow - I love that they offer zoodles as an alternative option for some of their noodle boxes. Been coming here occasionally since they first opened and have always had a delicious meal. Would be great to see cauliflower rice on the menu in the future.

it took over 45 minutes to get my lunch, they were "helpful" when I told them that my lunch break is over and I needed to get back to work so they rushed my lunch - one simple noodle box. Only two orders will filled while I was waiting but both were pickup orders. After they finally got my lunch, came back to my office, only to open the box and find that they gave me the wrong lunch. NEVER again.

This 818 douglas location is so inconsistent on the low value its actually frustrating, and its everything from spice, protein, veggies & sauce. Its like the management & staff just cant do it or just dont care . Save your tip money until after your meal.

I used to enjoy eating here. But, recently I have found that the amount of protein put in the dishes that I order has become almost non-existent, and the amount of bean sprouts has gone up a lot. When I go to a restaurant and order a dish with a combination of meats and pay extra for it, I expect there to be a significant difference in the amount of meat that I find in my dish. I have found the opposite to be true. No matter how I order I am getting less than I used to. I am most disappointed.

Food as palatable fuel. Large portions for a relatively low price. Primary offerings are single bowl east Asian derived meals - noodles or rice, veg, plant or animal protein, everything together in one large bowl. Licensed for beer. Didn't like most of the local craft beer I tried while on vacation in the Victoria/Vancouver Island/Discovery Islands area, but the brand served here was good. I don't live anywhere close to here, but if I lived or worked nearby and there were days when I didn't want to either cook or spend too much at a restaurant, I'd go back here. Suspect that complaints from some of getting just a bowl of noodles, nothing else in it, may be due to misunderstanding the modular, grain/veg/protein menu system. If it isn't listed in the menu as a specific combination of ingredients then you have to specify what exactly you want, in the way of an all together in a single bowl combination of grain/veg/protein. And in terms of consistency it's not a major national or international chain or franchise, so even though your order was the same as previously, you may not get exactly the same thing from day to day, depending on who is on shift. (High functioning ocd is part of what makes civilization workable, but low functioning ocd is somewhere in the range between unnecessarily abrasive and a curse.)
