Despite other postings my entire family loved this place. The waitress was very attentive ,nice smile too. The food buffet was HUGE, lots of variety,fresh crab legs,prawns,3-4 types of fish,duck,spicy chicken etc.etc ,lots of excellent squares,cookies and a small salad bar as well. I don't know where you could find food of this quality and quantity anywhere in Victoria for only $15/person..$6.95 lunch specials as well..

Customer service is okay. Very slow service on busy days so we just left without getting a table. They really need to hire more servers. Been here only once but the dishes we had were pretty good. Read some bad reviews here, but maybe it just depends on what you order. I'd go for authentic Chinese dishes over Chinese-Canadian.

Our food was cold... and waitress was NOT very friendly. She didn't ask if we wanted order cold beverage.... No salt/pepper/soy sauce/ or sugar on the table ... i asked for sugar or honey for our tea but she just brought over 2 tsp of sugar in a tiny dish... to share between 2 of us and pot tea..our food or tea... Order came in as expected, originally. Delivery driver asked to be met in the lobby, and while unusual, not unheard of. However, he said he didn't have any change when told it was cash instead of debit. After waiting an hour for delivery (It was expected, as we were told it was a busy night), I couldn't be bothered to express irritation. Collected the food, got upstairs, and promptly discovered that some of the pork in the BBQ Pork Fried Rice was, in fact, still raw. Called them back, was given a weak explanation of how it's 'Just the seasoning', and then begrudgingly offered a refund after declining a replacement for the dish. Call requesting refund was made nearly 45 minutes ago. Return driver was courteous and willing to give us a refund on the items not eaten, which is fair enough. We had, after all, enjoyed the dumplings we'd ordered. All in all, while the staff is understanding, not 100% sold on the "It's not raw" explanation as was given. TL;DR - Ordered food, got what was ordered. Turned out there was raw pork in the fried rice. Delivery driver 'had no change'. Return driver was patient and willing to talk, however. Not overly impressed, will most likely not be ordering from them again.

Worst Chinese Food Restaurant I have had the displeasure of ordering from, eating from or dealing with, ever. Don't waste your time or money unless you are a wealthy Asian worthy of them kissing your behind. I called this restaurant for delivery. No delivery service on a Saturday night of a long weekend, I had to order through a subcontracted delivery service. Although I have allergies and food sensitivities, the very rude person who answered the phone the third time I called (I was hung up on the first 2 times I called), had no interest in listening, told me to make notes through their contracted service and slammed the phone down on me again. I was assured by others the food would be worth it and placed the order against my better judgement. I wish I had followed my instincts and ordered from somewhere else as I have had better Chinese food from Fairway Market and Mall takeout places than what this "high end" restaurant delivered. I ordered 5 dishes in total and my bill was almost $80. Only 4 dishes arrived. The one dish - Stir-fry prawns with cashew chop suey did not arrive and it was the dish I was MOST looking forward to trying. It took more than an hour to arrive and was cold when it finally was dropped off. My complaint was heard not by the restaurant, but by the delivery service. When I went to the restaurant to investigate, the counter person offered no apology, blamed the service, admitted the one dish had been forgotten, offered to have the one dish remade for me right then but no manager or supervisor was available. They would have a manager/supervisor call me when they arrived. No manager called. So I have a credit with the subcontracted delivery service, poor quality food that arrived cold and congealed, missing a prominent main course dish, and no recourse or apology from the restaurant. But all of my payment. Do not be fooled by the number of Asians who eat here, this is out of habit, not because the restaurant serves good food. The remainder of the dishes we DID receive were substandard in quality ingredients and poorly prepared. Overcooked ginger beef, too sweet mango chicken, dried out shrimp fried rice, greasy pan-fried dumplings with no determination of what they contained . Also unsecured by the delivery service - I was handed a stack of takeout containers rather than a bag or box. No soya sauce or chopsticks. No fortune cookies, no receipt. A small slip of paper with Chinese writing on it - no English or restaurant defining characters of any kind. No takeout menu so I could order again and no customer service of any kind. Again, do not waste your time or money on this garbage dump restaurant. You will get better food and service in a grocery store or mall kiosk.

This place is the WORST! We waited almost an hour to serve our food, they didn't give us water, the servers are rude. Then act fast when the costumer is done and ready to clean the table but when it comes to costumer service, they been trying to avoid eye contact to avoid us. This place need to SHUT DOWN asap. This place is under staffed . The wait time is too long (45-60+ mins after ordering). Each dish would come out one by one, 10-15 minutes apart. Lunch would take close to 1.5 hours in total. Two out of four dim sum ordered were sold out. It's really unfortunate because the food is tasty but it seems the experience is ruined by poor management. Waiters are just too busy and won't be able to keep track of you. If you want service, you need to prompt them and ask, because otherwise your table will be left behind. Two stars because the food is good.

We went to have dinner and we ordered our usual chicken chowmein and bbq pork fried rice and sweet and sour pork and breaded almond chicken but they brought rice out first we seriously waited like an hour to get everything and by the time we got sweet and sour pork the rice was cold and we told them to leave the breaded almond chicken. Especially when friends come over from a place like Calgary / mainland Vancouver or even from Beijing, this is always THE BEST CHINESE RESTAURANT I take my friends to ! NOT LIKELY AGAIN...had taken the effort to not only book a reservation due to #/family involved, but also due to timing of gathering taking place over Xmas 2016 ...shortly upon arrival became painfully apparent the place was severely under-staffed & what few present failed to service our one round table...very slow to order food that took much too long to eventually arrive. To label the food served as adequate would've been another gross OVERstatement; no surprise that the only thing that arrived too quickly was the bill, delivered by possibly the male/female owner-types (who largely guarded the till and neglected to address/help with the failed food-service) ...NOT LIKELY AGAIN!

Parasite in fish. I am a regular customer for two years and i am confident i wont ever come again. Last time my girlfriend had the same dish when i was not around. She told me she saw parasite in the dish. I said it was probably just a unusually skinnier bean sprout. Today i had the same dish and i saw it with my own eyes. The vegetables were not cooked thoroughly and things were salty vs flavorful. Dimsum service is horrible..waiting over an hour for our food that was cold. Restaurant wasn't even packed and other tables were waiting. Server was grumpy and not apologetic. Cook comes out to say hello to friends touching his face and rubbing his nose... The teenage servers and the one server was good with refilling our tea etc but that one server who wears black and the long wait time... And mediocre food ruined it

Fountain restaurant is your just above your typical Victoria Chinese restaurant. You would think that with such a strong Asian community in Victoria that we could at least get a few great Chinese establishments...but that is not the case and the Asian Food industry should be embarrassed. At least Fountain renovated to get rid of the dirty carpet that you find in most restaurants which simply hides a lot of dirt. The food here is okay but you should always check it and that applies to all restaurants. Yes I would recommend Fountain, parking is free and staff are helpful and friendly.

Terribly let down as I ordered 2 hours ago, only to be repeatedly told it's on the way. Now it's 12:56 and they've realised they brought my food to the wrong address and it was paid for and after two hours of sitting here waiting as every other spot in town closed. They've informed me they're closed and can't cook for me. I gave them another shot the following week. Delivery took longer than estimated and was pretty soggy, and didn't give me napkins or paper plates.. we needed these to eat so we inconveniently drove to the restaraunt, and I told them they could keep their soggy food and they didn't offer any sort of refund or apology they just took the food and stared blindly. After 3 incidents, we will never come back to this restaurant. All 3 incidents, we made reservation that we'd like to sit at back of the restaurant. Every time, we arrived and were told that we can only sit at the table next to the entrance DESPIT to the fact that there were a lot of empty tables in the restaurant at the time (5:30pm). When I asked why we can't be placed at those empty tables, the waitress said to me that they're reserved. So, aren't we not? The last time we were there, I heard the waitress said to another group of people behind me, "Did you make your reservation from **** (a person's name, most likely the owner or the employee of the restaurant)?" Apparently, this restaurant doesn't care about us. They only care about people they know.

Decent food. Horrible service. Went here late night and was in the middle of eating. Waiter took away an empty plate from our table without even saying anything. Waiter also took away a plate that still has more than half of the portion in it. Before I could react, he already threw the food away in the garbage. Because those were two orders of pork (in the plate that got taken away) I told them I would only be paying for what we ate. They didnt believe me. I told them to check the garbage. They ended up letting me not pay the full price. No apologies were given. It made me so angry.

I was very happy with fountain restaurant! It was delicious large portions and there was a wide selection of good chinese food, including both western chinese and more traditional Chinese menus. I had the mu shu pork and it was quite delicious and slightly oily, which was an enjoyable combination with the tortilla they served it on. I like assemble your own food but I would have preferred the more robust mu shu pancakes. It was still delicious though. My friend got the seafood hot pot which was very good with lots of seafood and a very good chicken broth.

They packed the deep fried prawns in with the meal so those were soggy & inedible. Will definitely not order again. No thought or care was given to our meal.????????????????

This isn't only the worst buffet I've ever had the displeasure of eating at, it's the worst restaurant I've ever been to. The service is awful, none of the food has labels so you don't know what it is, and the vegetables tasted like old fish. Maybe it was my fault for watching an episode of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares before going, but it was HOT in there. All of the front windows had dripping condensation on them on the inside! I went in with an open mind, and ended up leaving in less than 15 minutes after arriving. Their menu states it's under new management. I don't believe much has changed as the other Google reviews from over 4 years ago are all saying the same thing as I am: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.

Look at this fried rice (crying). Plain rice more tastier than their so called fried rice! (Made with rice too much oil and egg and shrimp) Noodles! This is something without any taste. Pretty meh, sort of like cafeteria food. It wasn't really flavorful at all - maybe good for those on a low sodium diet. The fried rice was just rice and some meat/veggies. No sauce was used. The pan fried dumplings were pretty mushy and also tasteless. They were browned but not crispy at all. The noodles were also on the verge of mushiness, they had no bite. It's like it was all there and they could have made a good meal with all the food they included but no, the ingredients that make a meal good were missed. Sorry fountain but y'all needa visit flavor town.

Under the previous original ownership, I would give it zero stars due to severe overcharge with horrid portions and service. Under current new ownership, I would say the food taste okay but the pricing is lukewarm. Service now is good but service is moderately slow. I have to admit their one fried eggplant dish is absolutely to die for and I have to commend them for that. Restaurant has potential to redeem a good reputation but they have to work very hard for me to be comfortable; don't think the current owners knew how tarnished the restaurant name was due to previous owner's ruin.

The food is really bad. I tried to love it. But I decided not to try again after a few tries. My husband ordered ginger beef, feels like chewing hen. He mentioned to one of the staffs. she just like: well... my husband said well..I told my husband he should let her chew the beef by herself. I ordered Rice in hot pot with Chinese sausage &pork patty and Steam black cod with garlic and sautéed veggies. I felt sick at sight of the dishes. Looks like they just roughly through some boiled pork and five or six thin pieces of sausage on top of steam rice. The fish looks so plain, gross and it stinks. I won't give even one star if I could.

After being seated, My spouse and I spent 30 minutes at the far corner table with a tea pot and 2 menus. Nobody ever returned to take orders or maybe apologize. We just stood up and left. How will we ever get those 30 minutes of our lives back? Total disrespect. There are much more Chinese restaurants in Victoria. Avoid this one if you value a good service and a polite attitude.

The restaurant was full of people. We arrived at 6:45pm and was told there was 15 wait, which was OK. At 7:00pm, we were seated. It took time for the waiter to take the order but they did. I was with an old lady who only wanted pork shrimp wanton soup and 2 egg rolls. I order $9.95 dinner combo. We were served tea. We waited and waited but no food. I noticed they were serving tables which lots of orders. We were served at 8:15pm by which time I was dying of hunger. The combo was anything but delicious. I paid cash but when I asked the receipt, I was told that because it was a cash payment, they only print one receipt. They did not give me receipt but was asked to just take the photo of the receipt. I wonder ,what,CRA has to say about this practice. The lesson I learned was that one had to order expensive food to be served right away. The taste of our order which was so simple left nothing to be desired. I will not go there again and will certainly tell my friends the experienced we had.

The last time we were at Fountain is an estimate of 7 - 8 years back and never returned due to disappointing taste, portion size was medicore and pricing expensive as compared to other downtown Chinese restaurant. However a week ago a friend had a family reunion dinner and returned with a favourable comments. We learned the present restaurant has new ownership and revised menu & pricing to an acceptable standard and it wasn't wrong. This evening we picked a pre-planned 4 items dinner of our choice from the authentic Chinese menu that included a rib/vege soup, generous rice bowl for 4 plus a red bean dessert at no extra cost. The 4 selected choice items were bbq roasted duck, stewed braised beef, seafood tofu in clay pot and stir fried mixed vege a.k.a. lor hon chai. Excellent choices amazing flavours, just perfect! Free hot Jasmine tea comes with refills. Btw cantonese dim sum can be ordered specially popular on weekend lunch with local oriental community. In short Fountain has redeem themselves the phoenix has risen from the ashes!

In the past month i've eaten here a number of times and the first time our meals took almost an hour with no explanation as to why, forget about an apology. Each time i'm treated like a stranger, my friend who has eaten here thousands of times over the past 15 years or so is treated the exact same way so the servers here have no idea about friendliness and hospitality, in fact they don't even acknowledge their regular customers so in terms of service, this place is pretty close to the bottom but the food is as good as the service is bad and since that first visit, the food has arrived much quicker so i'll keep eating there (mostly because my friend likes it and it's the only late night Chinese place in town) but the servers would do well to at least acknowledge their loyal customers

Found a piece of metal in our dish on December 29, 2018 about size of staple. My young son fell asleep at dinner so we packed his portion and took it home.Luckily my husband ate it instead the next day and spit out the piece. Otherwise we would have given it to the managers right then and there and my son could have choked on that piece. Quality nothing compared to Vancouver.

If you're craving Chinese food skip this place. Slow service and cold food. When we went to pay there were 4 people chatting and we were completely ignored until I said excuse me and they scattered. The cashier took our money with no sorry or thank you. Took home the leftovers and reheated and the food tasted great. No blame on the cook there.
