I ordered Idly from SkipTheDIshes and mentioned the note asking for fresh Idly, owner/employee called and was really rude about what I mean by fresh idly. It’s been an hour and I am still full! I ordered the Paneer Butter Masala Dosa, it was full of flavour and the paneer was the prefect blend of firm but soft. The staff were friendly and the chef even came out to thank us and ensure we had everything we needed. The tables are quite small considering most of the dishes are quite large.

We gave eaten here many times. Flavors are spot on. Owned by a lovely family, that lut their heart and souls in their food. Hands down the best viryani in victoria. We have tried the dosas, vadas, idly, gobi 65, and some of the curries, all of it delicious. Also, if you see the chicken lollipops on special, order 2 orders. Yum!

South Indian cuisine, in its most authentic form, is finally in Victoria. Try the Mysore dosa, it is delicious. Paneer 65, cheese fritters too. The accompanying coconut and other chutneys are all very tasty also. Just the comfort food to warm up a blustery night like tonight. The owners clearly love what they do. It is in every bite. This place is amazing, and the food is always delicious! If you’re on a budget, but still want to dine out, then this is a great place to go to for a meal. Great flavours, quality, service and staff are wonderful…highly recommend! Is this place small? Yes. Can small restaurants with fewer staff sometimes face problems when it’s busy/food sells out quickly? Yes. Should that be a problem? No. I think it’s great that they’re successful, and I want them to continue being so! Don’t hold their success against them :D

Not sure I get the hype, maybe I need to come back and try something else. Had an order of sambar vada along with a sambal masala dosa. The dosa was tasty enough; I would give it a 3/5, but it was nothing inspiring and certainly not enough to warrant the reviews I'm seeing on here. It is also far too expensive at $12 for a thin crepe with a small amount of filling. The sambar vada was basically just some flavourless dense donuts in the exact same curry sauce that comes with the dosa...quite disappointing. To top it off, it took 35 minutes to get my food. I will likely come back to try another dosa type; who knows, maybe I just ordered the wrong dosa and there's a true gem in there. Anyway, just my two cents.

We came to Victoria for a visit from Vancouver and visited here based on the reviews. Their dosa and paratha was very good. Butter chicken sauce was tasty too. Finally, I am tasting Indian cuisine on the North American continent that reminds me of being back home. And what a surprise and delight that it is in Victoria. The dosas and sambar (lentil and vegetable stewl, are simply superb! On Friday, Saturday, Sunday, the Chicken Biryani (chicken, rice, spices all steamed and marinated together) is Amazing (with a capital A)!---real and genuine with whole spices and Garam Masala! (Enjoy the Biryani with Coke-Cola!) I hope and pray this team at Dosa Paragon will grow into a wonderful dine in restaurant here in Victoria one day. A big thanks to Prashant and his team and family for keeping the food real and genuine!

The Best South Indian Restaurant in Vancouver Island I have been to Dosa Paragon many times; it is my go-to place when I crave south Indian food. Dosas are their specialty; it comes with delicious sambhar (lentil and vegetable stew) and different chutney (spicy sauce made of coconut, tomato, onion) varieties. Since I prefer to eat non-vegetarian, my usual order is goat curry and their special chicken Biriyani. The food from Dosa Paragon serves all your senses, the flavor, taste, and aroma from the dosa paragon satisfy one's palate. I recommend this place for food lovers. Recently discovered eatery and was keen to experience Southern Indian cuisine. A small kitchen with limited seating in mall area. Don’t let that deter you from going ! A very popular place that has a thriving takeout offering as well. The menu offerings are considerable and generous I tried the Combo plate and regretfully could not finish. The flavours are wonderful. A delicious bowl of cardamom flavoured rice pudding rounded out my first, but not last experience. Don’t miss this unique eating experience.

The food is awesome, the portions are good, and the owners are great people. Dosa is a Southern Indian dish, basically medium-pizza-sized savoury crepe with delicious fillings sandwiched in the middle. From what I can tell, the diverse menu items are mostly vegetarian, but there is a butter chicken one for meat lovers like me as well. When I was there, the owner was also taking orders for a chef’s special that’s made with meat. It makes me very glad that there is a restaurant in Victoria for me to try regional Indian cuisines. People should definitely give it a shot!

I went here with one of my co-workers, who has frequented this establishment many times and who has always gave this place glowing reviews for its excellent food and service. I ordered their chicken biryani and simply put it was some of the best Indian food I've ever eaten, and at great value! The combination of spices in my dish provided a complex flavour that hit all my senses in the best way possible. I wish I got the name of the owner and the staff because I wanted to give them my praises but they were so busy (and rightly so!) with a huge influx of customers. I can definitely see why they've won so many awards over the years and I hope that they'll continue to win more! Dosa Paragon is a gem to the city of Victoria and I would highly recommend this to any visitor! You won't be disappointed!

Went for lunch. Small place but clean. The masala dosa was just ok , crispy and freshly made but the filling was pretty bland, the sambhar was very watery. Felt that some more spices could have been added. And the chutneys were served in tiny bowls( about 1 teaspoon equivalent).The South Indian coffee was very nice. The only annoying factor was the repeated loud noise from the ?grinder, which was going on almost through out the time till we finished the meal. If some thing can be done about this, it would be great. Would try other items on next visit...

Really good flavourful butter chicken. Chicken was very juicy as well and had a great taste. You can tell the chicken is seasoned well before it’s put into the sauce. My only complaint is that they don’t serve a traditional naan bread (probably due to it being a South Indian restaurant). They told me to try some other bread can’t remember the name , but it was honestly just like a whole wheat tortilla wrap from like the grocery store and it wasn’t heated up or anything. Wasn’t very good , but other than that place is delicious would recommend.

Came here for the second time after 3 years. There was a bit of a wait time for dine in as the restaurant was very busy with prior orders and takeouts. The food was delicious. I ordered rice items and hot beverages and it was very good. I highly recommend trying this south Indian restaurant.

Hi, You both (Bob and his wife Lathika )are always impressing Victoria with these amazing foods and additions to the menu, each time when i come back, i fall in love with these delicious dishes and my recent favourite is Chicken Chukka????. Last time i was there and brought takeout. All my friends here in Nanaimo really liked it and yesterday too, it was a lot, but really enjoyed everything. You both are my favourite people and Dosa Paragon is my favourite place. ❤️

Just went there, and I am blown away, the taste is exquisit. Now I wanted to try everything but, I am limited by both cash and my capacity to eat but that south Indian combo is the essence in one serving, you get to taste the idli(Indian rice cake), vada(the doughnut), utthapam (rice flour pancake) and dosa (rice flour flatbread) and these have no taste of their own, it's the chutneys they serve them with. Each one is better than the last one and it plays with your taste palatte, the sambaar provides the necessary tang and nourishment while the chutneys make you relish each bite! P.S. the little container that's in that platter is dessert don't miss it!

This is the first dosa place that recently opened in Victoria. It’s a great place to go if you'd like to have south indian food. I have tried many south indian restaurants in the region and this is certainly the best. The owners are super friendly and kind Their menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering starters & main course. We ordered vada and dosa. The dosas were good size portions and perfectly crisp, the masala filling was also not too heavy and had a good blend of spices, the sambhar and chutney had a great flavour as well. For dessert, we had rice pudding and it was super delicious! All the dishes we tried were freshly made and had the warmth of home-made food. Service was excellent. These guys are masters in south indian food. Being a foodie I would say this as an authentic one...

First up the Onion Cilantro Uthappam. Really Good. Next we each had a dosa. I had the Mysore Masala Dosa, just the right spicy. I still prefer the cylindrical crispy dosa but as the only dosa on the island it will curb the dosa craving. Hubby had the Butter Chicken Dosa and really enjoyed. Again prefers the crispy dosa but really liked this meal. (I know you can’t really tell them apart in pictures!) The coconut chutney was quite good and the sambar very hearty. Each chef definitely has their own sambar recipe! It’s in a mall so it’s a bit weird to eat at. It would be nice if they grow to move to a restaurant style. Can we request the crisp cylinder style over the folded triangle?!

We visited Dosa Paragon on Day 2 of moving to Victoria and so relived to have found this place. Having grown up in South India, we were curious if we would ever find a good South Indian restaurant in Victoria and am glad we found it. The Idli and vada is very close to what you would get back home!! The dosa and Uthapam were very delicious. Do try their pineapple lemonade. Its a unique taste and refreshing! It's not often I give a place five stars :) My patner and I ordered takeout from here last night and it was so delicious! All the food had a lovely fresh and alive flavour which suggested it's all made from very good ingredients. A potato filled dosa to share, helping of 3 vada (lentil based savoury donuts), and a beef curry was generous and filling. They have a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan choices as well as meat dishes. We will definately order again and will be letting our friends and families know about this lovely place. Oh and all the take out came in cardboard or plastic recyclable containers...no styrofoam which was great.

We have been here so many times and always liked their service. But when we came yesterday they were so busy that they ran out of sambhar and I had to leave without eating so I felt bad and talked to the owner and he handled the situation professionally. I must say they care for their customers as I showed up there again today he said our meal will be free but we said no but I appreciate his concern. But then they served us dessert pista kulfi and kheer for free. Tbh kulfi is a must try????

I was so excited to find a dosa place in Victoria! I ordered a plain dosa. The service was very friendly. The dosa was nice and crispy. The sambar was way too salty though, and the coriander chutney (I think it was coriander, I couldn’t tell for sure) was runny and not flavourful. I think if those 2 things were improved the meal would have been great!

Their vadas are the best. I have tried many places in Calagry but did not find the real authentic taste. I visited Dosa Paragon on my visit to Victoria and i really loved it. I tried idlis, vadas , masala dosa, uthpam and pista kulfi in two trips there. All of the food was so delicious and mouthwatering. This place is a gem for south indian cuisine. Their pista kulfi was also very good. Prashant - not sure how it spells - the owner is so good he came to us and asked us about the food and we exchanged little talk. I hope they should open up a branch here in Calagry too. I will surely recommend eating at Dosa Paragon and will surely visit again whenever i go to Vancouver Island

Pretty much my go-to place for lunch. I've sampled every single vegetarian dish this place has, and all of them have that authentic, incredible taste! As a South Indian, while I like the other (north) Indian restaurants, I was really missing that home flavor. DP was the solution! The owner is the friendliest guy you'll ever meet, doesn't get stressed out even when there are a lot of orders and tries his best to accommodate your needs every time. The place is very clean too. This was such a lovely discovery. My friend went before Christmas and we thought this would be an excellent New Year's resolution––to go to Dosa Paragon. We went today January 17 and it was simply fabulous. Everything is beautifully prepared and delicious. All the dishes are separately done and are gluten free as well as vegan and it is so long since I have tasted this excellent food. A pleasure to share a meal and the prices are great too. This is an excellent place to eat; and I'm so glad to have "discovered" this great little restaurant. The Chef is wonderful and the staff are first rate. Service is pleasant and quick. Don't miss this place it's worth every penny.

Service is good; ambience isn’t great (it’s in a small strip mall/food court area). Best masala dosa , yummy sambhar -ordered twice ..Loved it. Untill we ordered chilli paneer. Too much salt , no flavour at all , watery gravy. But still dosa nailed it. Please do something with your service , it's way too slow. Tea took almost 25 mins, but it was full of flavours... wonderful Please move to a bigger kitchen. You make food with all yours heart , it really shows up, but preparation time is alot. Customer service is good , they know they are taking more time , but they keep you updated. Wonderful experience. Just one advice if you are not sure about a dish ,please take it out of your menu.

This is definitely a good South Indian food restaurant usually not found in foreign countries as it is mainly the North Indian food and restaurants that are more popular and in vogue. I went with my family with two little daughters alwho were born and raised abroad and they loved the Dosa and Butter Chicken. I also found Butter Chicken to be well cooked and tasting authentic. My wife is a South Indian and she wanted to eat Masala Dosa since long and she liked Dosa that she ate. So we had a good family dining here. We could see Indians as well as customers from other nationalities eating and taking orders to go, that showed it is a good and well-respected restaurant. I would have liked a little less spice in Biryani and more rice as it was full of big chicken chunks which did not have spice entered in it and rice was way too less as the bowl was filled with big chicken chunks. The food here is excellent, don't let the mall take out look fool you. The curries that they just started are authentic for sure, but what takes them to the next level is how fresh they are. The layers of flavours really stand out as each ingredient is discernible and cooked to perfection. This is not big batch cooking-- it is focused on what's going to be ordered in the next couple of hours. Also the meats are of obvious quality and the flavours are not masked by the Indian spicing, only enhanced.I think the value proposition is outstanding and the portions generous. I would wholeheartedly recommend it!

I come here for takeout and the food is always delicious and staff always friendly. Note that the wait time for take out can be long. Even when I’ve called far in advance, I still end up waiting for a bit when I arrive. I’m guessing it’s a space issue, because they’re small - probably one grill. Despite that, I still give it five stars and will still come here for takeout whenever I have a craving for a dosa. Highly recommend. Note - It’s in a shopping area, so I would only recommend it for sit-in if you’re cool with very casual food court style seating.

I am sorry writing low rating for Dosa Paragon. The food is good, affordable, authentic but the manager needs to improve the customer service. I have been a regular customer here. The manager's behavior had been great initially when I first started coming there, but eventually I felt like my orders were being taken for guaranteed just because I was regular customer. I dont deny the fact that they may have large number of orders and because we are humans, may take delays. But I have also patiently waited there. On so many occasions I have noticed that customers who ordered masala dosa after me were delivered earlier than me when I just ordered plain dosa which takes lesser time and effort. The other day the manager got really mad at me when I was joking among my friends that my order has not arrived yet again , when theirs arrived first as usual, wen I was the first one to order amongst all. That really made me write this review today the way he acted , when I have been not even complaining about things. This does not mean that I would stop ordering here, I will look forward to the improvement. I really appreciate how hard those two (cashier s or waiter I think)guys at front )work taking orders during rush hours, always on their toes and apologizing if anything goes wrong, but manager needs to change his attitude or either hire one more cook to cater to genuine needs. I would rate this restaurant more than 5 *s. Best Hospitality and perhaps the best delicacies too. 'Chettinad chicken curry' is another level. Took me to my childhood food memories. 'Briyani' - lives by the fact,best flavors and feels light too. 'Parotta' - the only restaurant serves this layered happiness in Victoria. I would visit again and again. My husband and I were very happy to enjoy our first time lunch at Paragon Dosa today. Victoria has mainly North Indian restaurants so this is indeed a city in need of these South Indian delights. Paragon Dosa is family run and there is a genuine warmth and attentiveness to the service. They were busy with takeout orders during lunch and once we had eaten it was obvious that the good word is out. We enjoyed Mysore Masala Dosa with sides of Coconut, Lentil Chutney and a wonderful Imli/ spice- balanced vegetable Sambhar. . . divine!, The crispy savoury urad dal/ rice Dosa was folded into a triangle and beneath the golden-brown exterior was a mound of perfectly spice Potato Masala and a layer of spice paste that makes a Mysore Dosa the stuff of dreams. A dab of achar (pickle), a cup of traditional milky South Indian coffee. . . and we can hardly wait to return. They have many traditional specialities on the menu and also samosa, pakora etc.,,,and biryanis on different days. I have no doubt that Chef Bob will make every dish with the same care and love that I tasted in my delicious food today. ???????? Thank you.

We stumbled on this hole in the wall randomly and have eaten there many times since. Every single thing on the menu is delicious, we love that there are lots of authentic choices, the menu isn't completely white washed. Giving it a low rating because of lack of good eating space (Tables are on the mall walkway ) , may be it's me as my expectation is always to have a quiet nice area to sit. In terms of food quality and taste it's good. There are only couple of places where you can get south indian food in whole of victoria and it's in downtown so in terms of location it's very good. Expect waiting time to be between 20 to 50 mins, depending upon the no. of customers. Service is okay.

Never again…Be ready to just keep waiting to be seated or for pick up. This was an excellent restaurant authentic food, friendly staff and good service. Sad to say that isn’t the case any more. Today was the third time we had issues with the service. The chef is taking order, cooking and hence might forget that he is talking to a customer and there is a way to attend your customer. The chef told me that the food will be ready in 30 mins, my husband reached there at 25th min and was asked to wait as there are 4-5 orders before ours. A little surprised, I called to remind him that he said 30 mins for my order and I was shocked the way he spoke to me. The guy’s behaviour was pathetic. He started shouting and asked if you are in a hurry, cancel your order. They are short staffed and apparently that has impacted their service and the quality. When I started writing this review, I noticed the response of owner to other reviewers. Looks like he was the same person who attended the call ????

Difficult to rate. Don't get me wrong, delicious as heaven. 10/10 for food. But, my god, the service is so so slow. They are in the middle of a mall, so you sit in everyone's way, but that's okay. The server at the counter is very overworked, she was running to clean 5 tables and take care of everyone's order and payment at the same time. Customers were standing for a good 15 minutes in the peak time (tables were empty but not cleaned yet). Four people in the back of the kitchen, I am guessing the owners, never helped the front person and just kept gossiping. Delicious podi dosa and sambar vada but super mismanaged service.

I have experience of eating at many restaurants offering south indian restaurants but never tasted anything like this all my life. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Victoria to go n taste for yourself. Having said that I would recommend and suggest that they increase their sambhar servings since its too less with the size of the idlis they offer. Loved their fluffed n yummy idlis n vadas.

I think it's the best place in Victoria to enjoy south indian food. Our favourites are mysore dosas, podi idlis, podi dosas and sada/masala dosas. I also like their egg dosas. Their sambar and coconut chatni are also good. You can compare their south indian food taste with south indian restaurants in Mumbai. The owner and the staff is very courteous and eager to serve.

We had an amazing experience with Dosa Paragon! I wanted to order through skip the dishes but we have allergies that needed to be accommodated, so I called to see what our options were. The gentleman on the phone had me order some plain items to charge for their daily special, and then sent us their daily special which was made with chicken and was amazing. Very recently moved to Victoria and was pleasantly surprised to discover a South Indian joint so close to my workplace. I was a bit skeptic at first since I have been to South Indian restaurants in USA, where I always felt like I'm overpaying for average taste and small portions. But Dosa Paragon really WON me over!! The quantity is more than sufficient. And yes, the taste is authentic and piquant, you can taste the subtle spices right through each bite. But the best part for me is the Chicken Biryani! Oh so fragrant and delicious! Being an Indian food lover, I can say that this will be a go to place to satisfy my Indian food cravings!

This time i am writing this review for their "Sadhya" ( a Keralian set of vegan curries, with Rice, Desserts etc. A south indian grant meal, usually for lunch ). Dosa paragon makes this during summer/late summer on the auspicious day of Onam(south indian festival). Everyone should try this at Dosa paragon , at least one time. Had Eid special menu from my favourite Dosa Paragon, food was delicious. Meal had 6 dishes - chicken biriyani, coconut rice, goat curry, vada, gobi 65 and the sweet dish - gulab jamun for 32$. We were four people and the quantity was so much that we were not able to finish. Thank you so much so continuously providing good and healthy food.

I don't miss my cravings for good south Indian food, thanks to DP. The biryani has a South Indian touch to it which makes it stand out from rest of the restaurants. Great curries, absolutely no match in Victoria at least. Wish I can give more than 5 stars.

I want to share our experience , we ordered butter paneer butter masala curry with Chapati they are selling packing food which we can buy easily from any walmart or superstore .they just microwave the food and serve it. We think Mcdonald’s is much better.

ah so good!! I came here on my lunch break and asked what they recommend! My lunch was a rice crepe filled with curry, chicken and potatoes! It is now my new favourite Indian restaurant in Victoria :). The staff are so nice and they brought rice pudding to my table for dessert! Thank you, I’ll be back with my husband next :)

Best tasting and most authentic tasting southern Indian food. Most other Indian restaurants in town are somewhat westernized versions. Dosa on the other hand uses all the herbs and spices and its absolutely amazing! their menu is also very unique in a sense that you don't find them in other Indian restaurants. A must try if you are craving Indian food!

Went to Victoria, BC on holiday and loved the food here. They have excellent dosa options. Also enjoyed the omelette and pakoras. I think it's a family run business. They get a lot of customers & don't have enough tables or staff... but the food is excellent! Went there multiple times. Call ahead to reserve a table!

Cannot explain in words … what I felt after eating here on a random whim looking for lunch inVictoria… ecstatic comes close , I think . Having lived in southern India for a long period of my work life I really enjoyed my Idli sambar and filter coffees. After moving to Vancouver never had that void filled. I definitely can say the void is filled after eating here! We ordered podi idli , vada and chicken biriyani.. every dish was delicious and authentic to the core including the sambar and chutneys ! I felt I was in Bangalore again! If you love South Indian cuisine it is a must try. Definitely on my to -do list on my next trip to the Vancouver island.

We just returned from the Maldives where we ate dosa every day for breakfast, and we were craving it so searched out a place to get dosas locally in Victoria. Dosa Paragon did not disappoint! Tasted very authentic and definitely hit the spot! Even our 2 year old daughter loved her dosa and all the sauces! She loved the coconut chutney best ???? The menu is quite large, with lots of vegan options as well, so we will definitely be back to try more!! Definitely recommend!

Ok so this place came highly recommended. South Indian food. The food is authentic, cooked fresh and delicious. Reasonable prices. Good portions. Only downside is the location in that it is really more of a food fair as seating is in the hallway of the mall. Yes would love to see this establishment have a proper sit down restaurant. The staff were friendly. I would definitely return for the food ???? 5 ⭐️ for food 3 ⭐️ for setting. Please like my review if it was helpful.

Ordered food for takeout. Told me it would be 45 minutes. Made me wait another 40 minutes. They were very busy, which is fine but they shouldn't have taken my order. They valued their own greed over my time and of many others who were waiting for their food. I do not recommend this place. Update : your response is tone deaf. You were serving 'Skip the dishes' on time while you made me and others who called you directly wait because Skip would penalize you for a late order. Your practices are disgusting as is your response. Update 2 : I regret giving you a dime of my hard earned money. I hope people read this and can set their expectations right for the sub standard service and read the owners response to others on their experience. If you wish to spend money at a restaurant only to be waiting like cattle and then being insulted for bringing it up then sure go here.

Very few places in Victoria serve South Indian food and these guys are the best. They sort of have a monopoly as there isn’t any competition. Their medu vadas are crisp and chutneys are fresh. His wealth of experiences include cooking for much larger audiences in corporate venues, but Dosa Paragon is his first in his own digs. The food is terrific. Try the combos, which include specialties like Idly, a delicious light lentil cake that reminds me of comforting white bread — except it’s healthier — served with chutney and a light lentil-based stew known as Sambar. Try the cauliflower pakoras, which are crispy and delicious. Try the scrumptious vada rolls. Do try the special chicken and rice, if it is served that day — a savoury, spicy and delicious “upside down” meal. Try everything. You are unlikely to be disappointed by anything at this order-at-the-counter eatery with simple tables in a bright setting. UPDATE February 2021 We ordered food to be delivered from Dosa Paragon, and to our delight the food was just as good, if not better, than last year at the restaurant. Dosa Paragon may take the proverbial honey cake for best Victoria Indian restaurant. I know there is some stiff competition, but it’s really good.

This is a gem of a place. Very tasty South Indian style curries. We tried Chilly Paneer and chicken chettinad. Both were authentic. The service was awesome. It took a bit of time. But I can understand, since the place was super busy. Also, I read on their website that it's the husband and wife that are cooking. I will be back and will recommend more people to this place.

Visiting from Dallas, TX. Came across this restaurant on google and wanted to try it. Very cozy restaurant inside a shopping center. I spoke to the chief. People working there were awesome.
