The price is right, and some of the food is okay. I had some very unpleasant chili here that haunts me, and since then I haven't been back. Their chicken fingers were good, but for the same price you could go to Man vs. Meat and get PHENOMENAL ones.

Great little local eatery. All the typical foods you would expect from such a place. Be warned, there is no table service. You need to go up to the till and order when you're ready. We sat at our table waiting for quite a while before the lady behind the counter informed us.

We found it very overpriced for the amount of food we got. A salad & hot chocolate came to $20!! I got perogies and only got 5 instead of 6 and barely any bacon that wasn’t raw. The mozzarella sticks were not cooked and tiny, also were approx $8 for the 4 we got! Not sure if there was some missing or it was supposed to be 4?? Either way we won’t be coming back to find out

Used to love this place, used to have exceptional service, great food at great prices. As of late you will wait a minimum of 30 minutes for a simple breakfast order. As you’re waiting you will see a steady rotation of skip the dishes in and out with priority service as the on site customers continually get frustrated, upset and vocal as they basically beg for their order or the correct order as there seems to be lot of mixed up orders. Not an enjoyable experience anymore when you see the anger and feel the tension from the patrons.

Extremely fusterating when you travel 11 hours, try to place an order for delivery to your hotel room and get told “Sorry we don’t have that today, we close at 9”.. It’s 8:15 on a Thursday, why even print these into hotel rooms? Your loss on the order, but most importantly your reputation.

A small, very casual diner with home cooking. A large varied menu with daily specials. Huge portions with fair prices. Stay away from the chili. I have ordered it on two separate occasions only to find that it had soured from being around too long. Plenty of parking. Child friendly.

This is the city diner. Big portions with lots if choice. Often full house as you are treated right. You pay before you chow down. Worth visiting for comfort food.

Meh.... It was much better when Joe Sr. was still alive and running the place. The food is hit or miss. Sometimes it is really good but other times it is horrible. The prices are decent but nothing special. Again, it is a sinking ship and not like it once was.

I come here for breakfast a couple times a year as the portions are huge with a pretty good price. Servers are friendly but the wait is a little long and there is not a lot of space so there is occasionally not seating.

Had the Salisbury steak, veggies were so over done they lost most of the color. The steak was very burnt, showed what I assume was the owner and he offered to make another one asap...the new piece was out in under a minute, was pink in some spots. Being that it came out as quickly as it did I would assume it was microwaved. The onions that came in the second steak were way better (not black) On the first plate the onions were as well done as everything else. Liver and onions were very good however didn't receive any veggies as advertised in the board. Price for mine was $15.00 portions were good however not worth the 35 min wait.

Used to go fairly often but my last experience had me so appalled we never went back. This was like 4 years ago, but it was just shocking in there. Waitress wiped food into my lap and left half the mess on the counter. Then proceeded to have a "meeting" with the other waitress and kitchen staff for a good 20 mins while we sat ready to order with only one table occupied aside from us at the counter. When we finally did get to eat the waitress handed us our plates and turned and sat her a$$ right on the counter in front of us!!! All I could think was this woman's num is nearly touching my plate. She did not move before we decided to leave. Hungry.

Took my wife out for lunch my spaghetti and meatballs could have fed four but was good garlic bread was well done my wife fish lunch special the fish was over cooked the coleslaw was amazing , pototes were really good along with one granish that served no function. So my wife decided to try dessert, mistake lemon meringue pie ,crust was steel, meringue was rubber and granular sugar. The filling was adequate.

After 35 minutes of waiting my spouses Salisbury steak was burnt.. the vegetables were mushy..and I didn't get vegetables.. took the burnt steak back and poof in 1 minute a new steak came out.. can u say microwave. If it was actually tasty it wouldn't be so bad but it wasn't special like they say. ???? p.s iceberg lettuce isn't a garnish. Won't ever go back there..

I eat in restaurants all the time all over the country and I this place is average at best. I ordered the « Lumberjack ». Pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast. All piled onto a small plate. Who wants their pancakes buried under eggs, homefries... I don’t know why people talk about good service when you have to order at the counter, pay in advance for a meal you haven’t yet received and getup to get coffee refill or anything else you want.

Came in, sat down, we cleaned off our own table. The waiter that brought our food didn't bring enough silverware, nor did he bring another plate so we could all share our food with our youngster (picky eater) - we even asked for the extra plate. The food was good.

Their breakfasts are the best of the best! Lots of food for a reasonable price. Finn Pancakes are also the BEST in town. Western on a bun is like having a full omelette, delicious and very very reasonably priced! No need to eat lunch once you have had a breakfast from here.

The Java Hut is an excellent diner style restaurant that serves an all day breakfast and many other hot sandwiches and burgers. The menu also includes a daily special with other items from salad to perogies. Generous portions to fill even the largest of appetites. This is my go-to diner for a quick meal on a budget.

Used to love this place. But the past 3 times ive taken my family here, its been a disgrace. Used to have great tasting food. Now it seems like the cook just deep-fries everything to a crisp. The wife and i ordered the lumberjack. Over easy eggs, sausage, bacon, finn pancakes, and home fries. We got fried eggs, no yolk, burnt bacon, my sausage was deep fried to deformity, yet the inside still seemed raw, the potatoes where just burnt slices of potatoe. I didnt even touch the pancakes. I told the kid working that our meals where horrible. He looked at our plates, apologized and gave a refund. The 2 times before this we had pretty much identical results with our food. Its a shame because we have been going here for 15 years. Now, we will never go back. Sorry Joe :(

The service was pleasant. I had a Meat Scrambler. It was tasty but not excellent. The eggs tasted well done. The sausage was very good. Normally it has a well processed taste. The shocker was that it was $30.00. If you are on a budget this may not be the most economical. Overall it wasn't bad.

The food here is usually good to very good and the service excellent. Stay away from the greasy choices like the all-you-can-eat fish as it is so greasy, you will experience your fill in the first serving as it is all you want to eat! The hot sandwiches are good as are the soups but the deserts are the best so keep room for them and order accordingly!

I really like the spaghetti and garlic bread on Tuesdays . The clubhouse and fries any day are tasty and filling . All you can eat fish and chips Fridays . Friendly service . A great place to eat in Thunder Bay.

The food is usual very good. Today the pancakes had a sour taste to them. The service was not so good. I had to ask for a coffee refill and when I did the waiter was so soft spoken I did not hear her. I asked her to repeat herself and she rolled her eyes at me. Not too happy about that. Just wanted a coffee. Youth these day need to learn about respect and customer service. That and the cream for the coffee had clumps in it. Not my best experience here. Come on pull your socks up. Won't be returning for a while.

Went in and had the the all you can eat fish and chips. I was ignored after I got my plate and had to flag down the kid working there (Austin I think?) and ask for a second portion as he would've never asked. I then waited 20 mins and when it became apparent the fish wasn't coming, I got up to leave and said to him, "I guess I'm not getting that fish?" and he said to me, maybe if you tipped better it would've come faster! Needless to say, I won't be going back!

Service was fast and friendly. Had the soup and sandwich special and it was good. It is not a fancy place but they have refreshed the inside. Its small, with sort of a diner style that serves homestyle dishes. Nice break from chain restaurants/fast food.

My wife and I ate here twice recently and I plan on returning very soon. The owner is a really pleasant down to earth person. Our service was great and the food is phenomenal. We were asked if we were enjoying our meal which isn’t typical at a small busy diner, so I was impressed by that. Restaurants are trying to bounce back, or simply just stay alive while they navigate through some very uncertain times. And they have enough troubles staying open when they’re at full capacity. Places like SKIP the dishes have been the only thing keeping most of them open. People need to relax and show some patience, and compassion if things are taking a little longer than usual.
