Here you will be able to see the feddbacks of real people who used the services of The County Canteen (Catering) near to the area of Picton (Canada).
Currently the firm has a rating of 4.3 out of 5 and that rating was based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is really positive, and it is founded on a very high number of reviews, so we can conclude that the evaluation is very faithful. If there are many people who bothered to evaluate when they are pleased, it works.
You know that we don't usually stop to put tatings when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Catering is classified in the category of Restaurant.
Nice location, too bad the staff and service is poor and the pricing steep for the quality you get. Tried it twice with my wife and both times a sheer disappointment. Other pubs in town are far better. I'd avoid this place.
Great service during covid wonderfully brewed blonde.
Fantastic spot for a beer and a bite of food. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, extensive beer selection and outstanding food. You will not be disappointed - unless you show up a bit late and can't get a table so get there early!
Fantastic experience. The beer and cider selection was excellent, and the food, atmosphere and staff were wonderful. The nachos were some of the best we've ever had. Would highly recommend and we'll definitely be going back.
Food was good and the bartender tried to keep the loud mouth at the bar in check. Nothing harsh, just decent efforts. Could be more vegetarian choices.
Awesome local pub, a bunch of craft beers on tap, food portions are great, awesome time, can't wait to go back.
Delicious food. Great craft beer. Friendly servers n
We shared their burger. Very moist and tasty. A bit overpriced. Service was excellent.
Nice to be back after the were closed for a bit. Love the new menu & appreciate the vegetarian & vegan options. Friendly service, cozy atmosphere & delicious food!
Early evening dinner. Friendly happy staff. Good portions. Good pricing.
If I could give zero stars I would. Worst service, waitress didn't even offer us a drink menu or food menu. They didn't even allow us to talk to our friends who were inside. It was very disappointing. I guess they only cater to locals.
The staff was friendly. Service was very good. We really enjoyed the food. Hot, tasty, prompt. We'll definitely be going back again!
The flight that holds one of ALL the beers on tap is impressive. Visited again this week, the Steak Frites were so tender and yummy.
Nice spot. Kinda hipster. Menu isn't big but has quality items. Good beer.
Great live music and beers on tap. Ordered the charcuterie board, and the actual quote from the 70 year old couple beside us “I was thinking about ordering that... but, glad I didn’t. You got robbed”. Paid $18 for $4 of meat and cheese. Never again.
Amazing Food!!! Everything is delicious. Staff is super friendly
The food was phenomenal! The live music was very talented. The atmosphere is very comfortable here. It took a really long time for anyone to offer any initial service, but after that everything was great. Will be back ????
Caesar was decent. Food wasn’t great. We had the quesadilla, fish tacos and flat bread and carrot cake. One of the only open restaurants on a Sunday night so we didn’t have many options in Picton.
Great location, great service. The atmosphere is laid back and welcoming. Highly encourage everyone to check it out. Great covid protocols in place so you feel safe as you enjoy fabulous food & drink!
Delicious food, great service, awesome beer selection! We had a big group and were able to call ahead day of to reserve a table. Would definitely go back next time we're on PEC.
Neat casual place in the County, diverse menu (the bangers and mash are fabulous) and a solid entertainment schedule. From live music to trivia nights, Natalie and team make people feel welcome!
Home made and creative entrees, great craft beer selection, live music on Friday and Saturday nights! Cozy atmosphere and a great wait staff!
The service was fine, however 3 fish tacos grilled with no sides for 15 dollars was a dissappointment. A spot for the tourists to be sure. Great gluten free beer though.
We were there tonight, and since we were 6, we couldn't sit outside. To our surprise, there was a duo playing inside, which was fine, but it was incredibly loud, like, we couldn't hear our server, couldn't hear the person beside us. It was so unpleasant, that we rushed ordering, skipped ordering drinks. The best part was when they stopped. There was no one inside listening to them and it turned away many customers.
Service was decent , no knock on that at all. Food had the potential to be ok but was bad because of cheap low quality ingredients
I had the burger & it was great also had a local beer to go with it & that too was awesome. My wife had the fried chicken sandwich which she said was great & had a Ceasar which she said it was the best she's had in years. We will definitely be coming back here Highly recommended by both of us
Great space with fun details, yummy food, excellent precautions and friendly staff!
great portions, lovely staff and most importantly heckin delicious.
Good food and drinks/beer selection. Initially prompt service but then table seemingly abandoned didnt manage to order a second drink so left
The County Canteen has a compact but varied menu of food, and a great selection of local beer and wine. The staff was pleasant, professional, and helpful, and they accommodated changes to meet dietary preferences. Definitely a place we'd visit again.
Great local beers on tap. Huge sandwiches and burgers. Loved the brisket and fries.
The spare ribs and the meat pie here are ridiculously good
Really nice place, good service and nice atmosphere. Food looks great. I ordered the Yalla Bowl and I wouldn’t recommend it! Other menu items looked great.
A great meal with only a short wait for a table. Precautions were taken for Covid making the dining experience very comfortable. A great selection of beers and pub food.
Great food. Great service and comfortable atmosphere and vibe.
Love..Love...LOVE this place! :) Amazing Food! Drinks! And awesome service! :) We will be back again real soon! :)
Delicious lunch with great tap selection. The chicken sandwich was amazing (sub a brioche bun for ultimate tasting experience)!
We had a Greek salad and fish and chips. Great service. Food was excellent, my husband said the Greek salad with the vinaigrette was the best he has ever had! Fish and chips was fresh, hot and crispy. Reasonable priced as well. Will definitely go back.
Nat and Drew have made the Canteen a space for everyone! Most inclusive spot in PEC. Their attention to programming is just incredible, not to mention the great food and drinks! Their beer options are unparalleled, and honestly you will not leave without and warm hello and a good chat! So lucky to have this gem in our community!
Great food and service. If you're looking to eat here during peak season then show up 30-45 minutes before your intended chow down time, as there is usually a wait list! Bean hummus was delicious with their fresh baguette ????.
Great staff, great food. A most welcoming place.
Had my dad's birthday gathering at the County Canteen today - Great beer, great food, great carrot cake, and FANTASTIC service! many thanks from the Campbell clan!
I never write poor reviews but I felt compelled to say something after the terrible service we just experienced. Arrived at 8:30, hostess immediately dismissed us and told us that the kitchen was closing, even though we arrived an hour and a half before closing. We were told that they had no tables left even though there were two empty tables on the patio in plain sight (we know these tables weren't reserved as we called earlier and were told that they don't take reservations). We left and walked down the street for a couple minutes, turned around and walked passed the restaurant again to head home and saw two other couples being seated. My wife made a comment to the waitress who couldn't give us a good explanation as to why they seated these couples and refused to seat us. It was clear that they just didn't want us there for whatever reason. Honestly, just a really, really upsetting experience.
Great local cider beer. The food was good, service was good. Not a big menu reflecting the times.
The staff here are top notch. Excellent table side manners, attentive and kind. The food is fantastic.
Great and cozy ! Nice food and big variety pf beers and drinks! Great service too :)
Service was great and the fish tacos and beef pie were amazing! But the two items had to be shared because they were both very creamy and you could get sick of the taste.
Great burger 1st time, great chicken burger second time!
Anazing prime rib. Try the cheesecake, trust me. Good beer selection. Lots of local craft brew.
It's a store front bar and restaurant. There were many choices of beer. The food selection was good: something for everybody and the entrees we had we great. Reasonably priced and friendly service.
Great food, great beer, great little pu.
Horrible service. We waited 15 minutes for a table we were promised outside to be then forgotten and our table was given to someone else. When we asked why they gave our table away, they gave us a lame excuse that the customer after us had a puppy in their purse hidden and needed to be kept outside. Asides from the terrible service, the food choices were very limited and what was available was disgusting. Then we asked for butter for bread that we received and had to go through 2 waitresses to get it. To top it off, after receiving such horrible service, they charged us 25 CENTS for butter! When you're paying over 100$ for a meal, it is quite low class to charge a quarter for butter. Will never return to this restaurant EVER AGAIN.
Liked the decor, good service, but the vegan options was lacking taste and... proteins! Still hungry after our meal.
Just delicious, lamb Burger was incredibly juicy and the beer selection is good. Was visiting from Ottawa on a bike packing trip.
A decent lunch spot, I got the fish and chips which were not bad. The tarter sauce wasn't quite what I was expecting but it was still decent. In my opinion a bit overpriced but expected in a tourist town. I did quite enjoy their homemade curried ketchup. I don't think I'd return here but it was a nice spot in Picton to grab lunch.
Food and drinks were delicious! Would definitely recommend the restaurant if you're in the area.
Loved the food! Excellent service!
The first dish I ordered was not good, lacked flavor, smelled great, but lacked taste, ordered a burger instead, it was great! Service was very friendly, very helpful to those not from around here. Would have appreciated the first order taken off the bill, but I didn't push that either. Second time here, food was still great, same as service, nice all around dinner!!
When my group went a lots of dishes were complete misses. The okay dishes were the fish Tacos, fish and chips and the chicken burgers, though the chicken burgers were on the small side. The chicken wings were the worst and felt like wet cardboard in your mouth. The worst thing about the experience was the wasps around the patio. There clearly was a was wasp nest near by and there were no efforts to keep us safe. My friend got stung and this ruined our meal.
Best food ever! We ordered the fish and chips and a burger. Quick service and delicious food, highly recommended
Fish n chips were greasy though good size of fish and was tasty. They hesitated to take a takeout order for 6 people. Also they didn't answer the phone when I tried to order at 4:30pm.
The server's are always nice and awesome and they answer all questions nicely. The food although a little pricey for some is definitely worth it. I had fish and chips twice now for $18 and it was great both times
Warm and cozy place. Everyone were so friendly, hostess, our server, and even the kitchen staff were polite. They made us out of town-ers feel just like home. Oh, and their were pretty damn good too :)
FANTASTIC local beer selection! The staff were incredible and I highly recommend the fish tacos.
Love this spot. A mix of local and tourist patrons. Friendly staff. Good reasonably priced menu options and a kids menu. Love that they serve local wines and ciders. Kids loved that they were able to pick up public Wi-Fi from the bookstore next door.
Great Food and an awesome local beverage list. Lots of local beer and cider on tap and a great selection of local wine. All their dishes are delicious, you can't go wrong no matter what you choose!
Dropped by on a Sunday afternoon. Live band, excellent food, free soda refills. Our server was excellent and our meals and desserts were excellent.
Tasty food in reasonable portions with a nice atmosphere. Really great inside and the staff are very friendly. There is always a very long wait for dinner, however. I suppose that's really just a testament to the popularity of the place. The one thing that was a bit annoying is that we just could not get an accurate wait time out of them. By phone they hesitated to even give an estimate. In person 15-20 became 50. We overheard a man ask "so like a 10 min wait or so?" to which the hostess hesitantly agreed) meanwhile we were at minute 40 haha. You won't scare people away by just saying it's a 40+ min wait. There is lots to do in picton in the meantime. Telling people it's a 10 min wait when it's 40 is way worse. Anyway, they have a huge beer selection on tap of craft breweries which was great. Lots of staples from around Ontario with some obscure ones in there too, we really enjoyed that. All in all worth stopping in. If you're going for dinner, going as a couple will have you in quicker than three or four (and you might snag a spot outside if you're lucky). That or go a bit early or later in the evening.
Great rustic decor and good selection of beers on tap, I really enjoyed the sour Jelly King. The meat mains were very flavourful, with several sauce options for the chicken wings. A good place for dinner in Picton for small groups!
A great selection of beer and terrific food to go with it! Always my spot if I want dinner and some drinks.
The burger, summer salad and French fries were great. Good selection of beer too. Great atmosphere and it's fairly priced. About 20 minutes away from Sandbanks Provincial Park.
This place's got it all. Good food. Good service. Good beer. Good ambience. The Asian ribs are stunning ! The chicken wings too. The corn was awesome. I think you get the point by now... The kids enjoyed their food as well.
I had the falafel meatballs and my husband had the fish and chips. The fish and chips were okay, but I didn’t love the falafel. Wait times were a bit long for food since we went on a busy Saturday for lunch.
Had the spinach and artichoke dip and the asian ribs... highly underwhelmed - both felt like a sysco special. Won't be returning.
For casual dining. Burger was amazing. Ketchup substitute house dipping sauce was. Addictive
The Khao San Road wings and the Sticky Teriyaki ribs are the best I have tasted! Totally worth the drive from Toronto. They have an inhouse made bbq sauce that should be sold for profit! The pretzel was disappointing tho. Was not fresh and the cheese dressing lacked flavour.
Good food good ale and incredible service went there unannounced or without reservations and they sat us right away fantastic patio seat to boot! Cheers???? PS portions are big
Good food, a great beer selection and good live music make this a great place for a meal out in Picton.
Great selection of tasty dishes, with adequate wine and beer pairing. Recommended.
Ordered a fried chicken sandwich and 1lb of the dry cajun chicken wings. As someone who has carved through all the fried chicken sandwiches Toronto has to offer, this was a pleasant surprise. The wings were a little dry and could use some work but the blue cheese dip was fantastic. The prices were fair. Service was quick, efficient and very safe given COVID-19.
A yummy stop in a cute town. Nothing topped our two cheesy appetizers: the artichoke spinach dip and the French onion soup. Both were stretchy cheesy goodness, especially the dip. The mains were nice as well: yummy falafel, great beets, and a nice daal. Friendly service and great local stuff on tap (not to mention beer cocktails?!?!). I'd definitely make the trip back.
I took my family of five there yesterday for a late lunch prior to leaving Picton for home. The kids fish and chips were tasty and a generous portion. Even an adult would have been happy with that. My eldest daughter had the muscles of the day, which featured a garlic and chunky double smoked bacon production. By far it was the winner at lunch! My wife opted for the ribs. They were a bit dry and had too much five spice powder..or some other such seasoning. I had the Thai style wings. At first I liked the interplay of the sweet, the spicy and pungent fish sauce glaze. But the blue cheese drizzle was one flavour too many. It should be skipped. The sangria was not very good either. Stick to the local brew or a straight wine. Overall, it WAS a good meal, but room for improvement.
The burger was great and the prices are fair. Lots of drink options and a very cozy atmosphere.
First and last time I will eat here. My family and I were from out of town visiting sandbanks and came across this restaurant due to its high google ratings and repetition. The greeter was able to seat us fast on arrival but the waiter didn’t approach or ask if we needed drinks till about 15 minutes of us looking at the menu. We ordered the nachos with sour cream for starters and it was decent. The taste was good but the presentation was messy. I ordered the woolenburger meal...Which arrived shortly after the nachos... And it was red from the inside. As someone who is not a local here, I did not know that is how they normally serve their burgers. Personally I like my burgers well done but that should’ve been the waiters job to tell me that it would be medium well from the inside before they brought it out. The patty was NOT seasoned at all. Tasted like nothing when I was chewing it and again the texture was off since it was medium well. The fries were okay to say the least and were over done , mostly burnt. Will I come back? FAT No.
The food was excellent and the staff very friendly. Nice setting with a lovey slightly sheltered patio in the front.
Great decor and food. Lots of beer selections and personable friendly service.
Slow service, unaccommodating staff. Visited over the August long weekend. Choose a different venue if you're hosting out of town guests, for sure. 0/10 would not return again.
Great atmosphere, staff is helpful and wonderful and food was pretty amazing for just having appetizers!
The Good, the bad and the ugly The Good Our waitress was great. Friendly, patient and pretty quick (Esp when you consider she's prego! Wow). I would have given the place 1 star if not for our awesome waitress. The Bad Food was just not good. Thai curry tasted like medicine. Burger's 'mayo' was actually a watered down salad dressing, which slid down the whole burger. The oil the fries were cooked in should have been changed around the time poloroids were still a thing. The Ugly Ordered a pair of pops and came with maybe a shot glass full of soda. 90% ice. Come on! Ok so that's where they make their profit... But then I got hit with sticker shock. 3 meals, 2 pops, no appetizers. $82. This place is a pub at best. Scam at worse. Better to stay away.
Good selection of standard Canadian food mixed with one or two thai/viet infused food. There's a good size menu that doesn't overwhelm. It does get busy here and meals range from $14-20 dependent on what you get.
Definitely not bad, but not great either. Friendly staff for the most part, the meal was ok. Ideal if you need to grab a quick bite.
Great food, atmosphere and amazing staff!
So delicious, too busy I forgot to take a picture of our yummy dinner! Excellent service too!
Very good food and service. 2-stars subtracted as every restaurant should know by now that if you're going to serve decent red wine (Closson Chase Pinot Noir, for example) you've got to keep it cool (maybe 17C) and not leave out to get warm and serve it at whatever the outside temperature is, like 25C yesterday, which ruins it. Please would you do this?
This popular casual restaurant & bar has a variety of well-prepared comfort foods, salads and burgers. Great location, too. Street parking.
Great beer selection. Fast and friendly service. Food was very good as well. Worth stopping in.
Very nice staff, decent food I would recommend trying out this spot.
We visited this restaurant today. It was a busy day for them! However, we were seated quickly and treated respectfully (I have a certified Service Dog for PTSD). I have celiac disease and asked the server what was safe for me and he indicated the Yalla Bowl. However, on their online menu they do say that the fries and nachos are gluten free, but this is only if you aren't celiac, so just a heads up. It was delicious. We would definitely come back.
Great experience and lots of beers on tap. Food was pretty good too.
AWESOME TIME at the Canteen on Friday night. GREAT music, GREAT friends, and great atmosphere! Thanks Nat and Drew, your hospitality was amazing! Hope to see you guys again soon!
Great place, amazing staff and outstanding local live music.
Great experience! Our server was awesome and spent some time giving us recommendations for things to do around town. The food was tasty as well! I had the fish tacos for dinner.
The fish tacos were delicious..I'm still thinking about them. Great casual atmosphere with live music. It's fun and friendly with a small town feel. I would definately go again :)
Pleasant spot. Good food. Friendly staff. Patio setup and PPE was in keeping with COVID 19 regulations.
Great little pub. Excellent selection of craft beer. I had the bangers and mash which was great. Staff were all super friendly. I would recommend it to anyone stopping into Picton.
Great staff and food. Had the fish tacos and they were really tasty and big portions. Loved their coleslaw as well. Would definitely come here again.
Went there for lunch with my two kids (7 & 1) and it was perfect. Great food. Very nice place, beautifully built and well placed in downtown Picton. Sauces with food were amazing. Nice choice of local beers. Nice staff, very friendly. Kids menu. A tiny bit expansive for lunch but it was worth it. Great time.
We went there on Saturday afternoon around 5.30 pm ,it was 5 min wait for setup and cleaning, we ordered appetizers and drink ???????????? ,service was amazing, it's our 2nd time. Thank you for amazing service ????????
The food was amazing, as were the drinks. The service was quick and on point. They take your number if they don't have a table right away so you can continue strolling around and they'll give you a call. We had their ribs and fish tacos - amazing!!
Excellent food and great selection of beer, all at a reasonable price. Very friendly place.
Great little patio set up. Awesome nachos. Amazing variety of beer. Trivia nights are so much fun.
This place has an amazing environment whether you're going to eat or on wednesdays going to sing/listen to others sing. Very friendly service as well
Excellent food, and a fun, friendly atmosphere. One of the best selections of craft beer in the PEC/Quinte area. Regular events include live music, karaoke night, trivia night, etc.
I was really surprised with the broad selection of great Ontario beers. Over 20 taps on the go, with a wide range of styles. Our server (Angus) , and was quite knowledgeable and very attentive. We were on their patio, and as it was cold, were only one of two tables out there. Nonetheless, even though the inside was packed, we were never with an empty glass. We will definitely be back!
Great food and service. We had a nice dinner with friends
Friendly staff, great tap beer. They kept the place open for a group of us on a Monday night and played 90's music for us to dance to. Good times indeed!
This is such a sweet and brilliant place. the Bavarian sub menu is very authentic but available only for supper. lovely ambiance and good food.
We absolutely loved it! Great atmosphere, great good and incredible service! Very very busy waitress on her own waiting, mixing drinks serving food not usually that busy. So glad we stopped there!
Awesome service and great food! Love their food and drink menus. Good gluten free options!
We have been to the Canteen before and it was fine, if a tad "riverdale/leslieville" snobby - but decent food and a nice setting in small town main street strip that has a open patio concept to its credit. Problem - We made a reservation for a group of 6 and then called back to let the restaurant know our party had cancelled and it would be just the two of us attending - which they acknowledged. When we arrived the restaurant had a the original reservation for 6 ready and realizing they had mixed the reservation up informed us their policy was “no reservations for parties of two.” We were told we had to join the line up outside. Being summer the place was busy and good sized line was queued. More problems - We pointed out the vacant seats and said surely after all it was mistake and we can have the table for two? The hostess declined saying the restaurant doesn’t “make reservations for parties of two.” Frustrating! This clearly this was a mutual mix up - we'd never show up for a reservation otherwise. At this point the assistant manager joined and smugly informed that we could not have the table and advised "we were told as such when we called to change the reservation." And then this - Rather than admit the mix up and compromise with us we she smiled she insisted we line up with the “that's our policy” line. Her righteous attitude was enough for us. And so we promptly left - and had a great meal (with a very attentive owner and staff) at the Acoustic grill a warm and friendly venue. Advice - Go to the Acoustic Grill and skip the County Canteen Score of 1 for decent food. The County Canteen owner should take the blame for setting the policy and then hiring the staff that blindly stick to it without consideration for the fact: they serve customers - not the other way around.
Great food stop after visiting the Sandbanks. Really good pub food with small twists. Try the wings. They're pretty awesome. Shout out to Rachel for the great service.
Got take out from here two times when I visited Picton - both times were amazing! Fresh food, great flavours, good portions, awesome service.
Great feel, 1 or 2 vegan options. I got a curry dish. So, naturally I though naan bread and rice. Alas, I only got the curry itself and a really thin piece of fried tortilla-thing. It was great, but I left wanting more. I was really happy that vegan options were written in the menu. Kudos.
Very friendly and good food. Good selection of local craft beers. The owner is also a brewer and produces a great and varied selection.
Since this is my review I'm giving 4stars. If my GF was reviewing would be 5 stars. Service was great; beer on tap exceptional; my only suggestion would be not to have the wrap, absolutely no flavour. My GF highly recommends the fish tacos.
Food selection is good and service is prompt. Bar has an excellent selection of craft beer, both from Picton, and from Ontario. Karaoke night on Wednesdays is a great time and the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. A great stop for anyone in Picton, especially during the summer when patio seating is an option.
The resturant is very clean and nice looking with amazing fish and chips. However, the waitress brought us water and never asked if we wanted any soda, which i thought was weird. By looking around the restutant it didnt look like pop was an option but the service was quick and friendly.
Excellent food, great service, a bit pricey.
Easily some of the best food and service I've ever had. Had the fish and chips and my fiance had the brisket sandwich and both were to die for. Next time we come to PEC, this will be a regular stop!
Great place! Food is always good! Today we brought a friend and my significant other went through 80% of the menu saying "oh this is really good, oh this is really good..." For the record he hasn't tried the other 20% The burger or fish and chips are my go tos, and mt significant other had recently discovered the ribs- subsequently has ordered them the last 4 times we have gone...
We only stopped in for beer, so i cant review the food... But the local craft beer was cold and delicious.. the Patio is nice and right on the main street... would definitely come back for a cold beer sometime
The pulled pork on a bun tasted great, but was way too messy, very difficult to eat.
There are different activities almost every day of the week. So there should good ambiance most of the time. The food is good. They are very generous with their ribs. You won't walk out of there hungry after eating that. The service is friendly and efficient. We sat at the bar and had a very good time. Great place to be at if you pass info by the area. The prices are also very reasonable. Cheers to the staff!
The food was not right, I sent it back and it was better but not even a discount! The waitress even made a sly remark suggesting this was not a "cheap establishment". Not going back.
Bad service rude staff. Was treated poorly and left.
Our friends had brought us to this restaurant as we were visiting from out of the province. The atmosphere was excellent, the service the we're excellent, the fish tacos, the burger and the smoked salmon was excellent as well as the selection of beer and wine. But the only complaint was that the chicken wings while presented uniquely as they actually look like whole wings were a little undercooked. While our server assured me that they looked that way due to the age of the bird, my stomach disagreed the next day.
Highly recommend - may have been one of the best burgers I have ever had - hopefully they restocked the Tequila after we left LOL
Wasn't great but wasn't horrible. Wife seemed to like her fish and chips which appeared to be the same batter and fish used for my fish tacos. Whatever Nothing to rave about, just average.
Food is mediocre, fries were not done well, chicken was not cooked right, complained and staff had attitude. Bartender is not friendly at all and when i asked her for another drink was ignored for quite a while because i assume im not known in this bar. Wont go back and dont recommend this place. Does not have the "friendly county vibe" or good quality food and service to support their high pricing.
Good food and service. Just don't ask for a little butter for your bread...can't believe they have a $.50 charge for butter...
We visited The County Canteen on a whim while exploring the lovely town of Picton and wow were we ever impressed! Not only were the food portions large and filling but the food itself was top notch! The cozy atmosphere, and perfect people watching patio was a nice touch as well. We will be returning for sure!
This place has a really good vibe and ambiance, but I didn’t have the best experience because of one insensitive and condescending waitress. I’m a newly diagnosed Celiac and after asking a few questions, I quickly realized that the only food option for me was limited to one item on the menu- nachos. Her reply to me was, “that sucks” and compared me to her friend who apparently can eat more options on the menu and be ok. My biggest criticism would be for the staff to be more informed on the critical nature for a Celiac in avoiding gluten, that it’s not a choice but necessary, and to be more helpful and understanding when offering safe options for anyone with food allergies.
The food was very good. We had the lam burger and wings with fries and a salad.
Great staff. Very hospitable. Must have the Smoked Brisket on a bun. Delicious double deep fried fries. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
Went for Countylicious. The menu was different but everything was interesting and original. Pretty good beer selection too.
Great little spot for dinner in wine country. Amazing burgers
Great service, nice craft beer selection and the mussels were fantastic!
The meal I had with family was simply unbelievable. It was probably the first meal I’ve had with family where everyone tried each other’s meals because of how good everyone felt their dish was. Even my Dad who never shares or tries others’ meals, did with everyone’s. The service was quick and extremely friendly, and the cost of the meal was very reasonable. Highly recommend.
Excellent selection of local Craft beers, great food and service in a cozy, comfortable setting. Highly recommended!
Love this place! Amazing food and ambiance. My husband and I meet up with our friends there for dinner and there's always a spot to fold up our stroller for our little on. The patio has blankets available for people like me that get a chill. It's a nice welcoming spot and I would highly recommend it as your new go to resto!
Good eats! Good beer! Good service!
Disappointing tacos, and chicken Caesar salad wrap. Paid extra for a salad instead of fries that was a few scraps of lettuce. Ribs looked better, but wouldn’t come back. For a $20 lunch wasn’t impressed at all.
First time visitor last Wednesday which happened to coincide with their burger specials, which as it turned out led to myself and my partner eating the best burgers we've had in a long time!! It was their take on a Big Mac and I'm sorry McDonalds but you lose!!! Highly recommend this place, good food, good cider and a good ambience, will definitely be returning.
Unfortunately for us The County Canteen was far too busy tonight. We were able to be sat at a table, great atmosphere and we had heard great things, but...we sat at a table for over 15 minutes and no one came. We ended up leaving after the people beside us arrived and were served their drinks and then had their dinner order taken and we still didn’t have a server. Not ones to complain or ever walk out, we were hungry and it was getting later so we left for somewhere else. I do believe this is the exception from all that I have heard and we will likely try again but it didn’t work out for us tonight.
Decent food, if the other spots are closed. Pricey for what you get and staff is rude esp one waitress/bartender who did you a favour every time you asked for anything.
We just had dinner here..the experience was not good ..long wait time till order was taken..waitress spilled my drink on my napkin..then when the meal came the fries were not edible due to being cooked twice or extremely overcooked the first time..the waitress replaced my wife's and I refused to replace mine as I was disgusted..sorry but it's the truth..I dont give bad reviews but they earned this one..when the bill came 79.00 for inedible food..I must say it was the worst meal out for a rediculous price ...run past this place..
Elevated pub fare with really friendly service and an extensive drinks menu featuring wines, beers, and spirits from the County. We enjoyed a nice dinner on the patio. I had jerk wings that were SO delicious. It was busy all night, both with locals and tourists.
Beautiful place and view.
Limited menu but it works very well, great beer, wine and liquor selection but today no one seemed to be interested and personable with us, maybe we didn't look hipster or pretentious enough. I would go back but with the boys.
We had a bit of a wait for our food....but it was very busy. Well it was definitely worth the wait!!! Food is spectacular. The staff were very friendly and apologetic for the wait. Very organized and safe due to covid concerns. If we are ever in Picton again we will 100% come back for another meal!!!
Awesome food, service was impeccable, live music on a Sunday afternoon is a great surprise. Ended up being the best part of our detour through Picton!
Nice place! Probably the only place in Picton who'll serve dinner after 8 or 9pm.. there was free karaoke on the night we went and it was fun
Went for a couple drinks with my wife and we had a great time. Staff was friendly, drinks were cold and they had all the right rules implemented when it comes to the new reality we're all adjusting to in 2020. I've had the food here previously and it's phenomenal (kitchen was closed when we visited this time). The Canteen is absolutely worthy of a visit if you're in the area! Edit 03/13/21 - went back and had an identical experience except the food was even better. The Walt Burger is the tastiest thing I've ever eaten, ever. I am now of the opinion this is the best "all around" place to eat and drink in the County.
We did take out due to the line up for a table, given the Covid restrictions. Excellent food. And especially tasty considering we had to drive with it first. Even the salmon on the summer salad was perfectly cooked (still pink inside)!
Amazing service! Delicious Food! Definitely going back!
This was a great place to eat I have been eating food my whole life, and will tell you this was truly a great meal Fish tacos Sea salt fries And gf chocolate cake Swing in give them your money in exchange for some tasty eats
Nice looking inside but Food and beer way to over priced for the regular consumer in Picton. Looks and feels like as other things in this area was opened with tourist in mind not us regular town folk who work hard but might not have loads of money to spend but would like to stop have a few drinks and a meal. But I find the prices at this establishment are not geared for this type of local consumer. I might be one of the few but I find the deck out front in the parking spaces to be an eyesore and most of times crowded and filled with people, whom most are from out of town. We found not all but most were rude and acted like we were getting in their way. I would unfortunately rather spend the gas and go to Chuck's Roadhouse and Belleville meals and drinks are exceptionaly priced for the average working Joe. Maybe the next business people who plan on opening an establishment in Picton will get it that not everyone in our town who works hard are not loaded with cash to spend on outrageously high priced products. Picton and the County seem to be more focused on tourist than us that live here year round.
this a great casual place to grab some dinner after a day in the county. the food menu is a page for smaller sharing snacks and a page for main dishes with some pretty original items. there is a page dedicated to beer cocktails which were great! definitely reasonable prices. decor and vibe were pretty cool.
Nice place. Been here three years ago. It's still had the same charm. Food is the usual pricing but nice. They have activities every night from trivial to karaoke.
Great place at pick tonight!!!
Wow! Really enjoyed lunch. Went into Picton on two days while camping at Sandbanks and ended up at Country Canteen for a late lunch both times. My wife and I both loved our lunches. Creative menu items and specials (Poutine with Octoberfest sausage, red wine gravy and 2 year old Cheddar was to die for!). Reasonably priced and decent portions. Cool decor as well. Will be part of our routine now!
Had a great meal, steak was cooked perfectly, atmosphere was relaxed. Our server Emily recommended good beer and some local places to check out while we were in town. Very positive experience.
Sadly the food here was disappointing. Service was good and the food didn’t take too long to come out, fries and garlic aioli were the only good part of the meal. It’s the only place open a bit later that I was able to find but the burgers we got were not good, I wouldn’t recommend the fried chicken sandwich or black bean burger. Everything lacked flavour and was mediocre at best.
Great service and amazing food. Staff will deliver extra tarter sauce if you ask. Started with a greek salad and everything tasted fresh like it was just picked. Fish tacos and fish and chips are made from the same batter but are treated differently on the plate. I put some of my coleslaw on the the tacos and they were divine. Three Dog red wine that my server suggested hit the spot. Because of our server we’re now making visit to said winery. The best way to describe the wine is: “Waking up on Christmas morning at 5 years old and learning that the gifts are all mine!”
Great service, excellent food.
Very slow service and the food is underwhelming. We waited for our food for an extremely long time and they did not in any way try to make up for it.
New owners!! 10 times better, those Reuben egg rolls are so good. Burger was cooked to perfection, as well as the bacon on top.
Food is amazing, beer is sublime lots of great choice, if you're in Picton go there!
Cute little restaurant, staff is nice but doesn't hover
My summer salad was very fresh! Other people in the party enjoyed their burgers and quesadillas! Great beers on tap! Kitchen closes so early! 9:30!
Great food. Great atmosphere. Very friendly service. A cozy spot to stop for a bite to eat on a cold winter day. The beer menu lists many local micro brews. The best part of our visit was the Creme Brule though.
Very vast variety of local beers and they also have tons of cocktails. Menu is diversified, there is something for everyone in there, included vegans and people allergic to gluten. Would definitely go back!
Fun pub with friendly service. The Montreal smoke meat egg rolls made the night.
Delicious food ,service and ambiance was great. Drinks a little expensive
We tried the roasted mushroom soup, fish tacos and buttermilk chicken sandwich. Buttermilk chicken sandwich was the best, the other too were a little blunt for my taste.
Great food and staff!
I needed take out for my tired 5 year old as we had travelled a long way. was told it wasn't possible on Friday at 5.30 PM as the restaurant was too busy (it wasn't) and no they couldn't tell me where I could get takeout food. unhelpful.
Prices were decent.Steak was a little bit overcooked but good but the salad and the panini could have been better.would like to see more options for food.
It had wonderful food and was nice and clean on the floor and in the washroom.
Fantastic food and cute environment! Definitely recommend this place, and try the fries! ????
Dont know about the food since they would ot accommodate a table for us since I had my 4 month old on a stroller and they can't have a stroller inside the restaurant.
Friendly and fast service. A very busy place with an excellent Breakfast menu. Try the Farmers sausage.
A great local hangout spot. Don't miss karaoke and trivia nights. Tons of fun. Great selection on tap and nice food lineup.
This place has it going on. Drinks? Something for everyone. Food? Small menu but tasty. Service? Epitome of excellence! This business, functioning in a Covid economy, not only made us feel at ease but ensured all their patrons had a great time. We will return without hesitation.
I go here often, and it’s delicious. Wait staff is always friendly and accommodating. One of my favourite places in the county!
Very comfortable sitting arrangements, friendly staff. Highly recommended
We ordered burgers and we were not asked about the colour so we assumed it was gonna be medium to med/well..it was way overcooked and with a very bland taste. The ribs were very dry too. The cocktails and the beer selection were very good though. The service was below average but they would still ask between 18% to 22% on the credit card machine. Overall not recommended.
Poor service, mediocre food, not the greatest spot to go to, perhaps was at one point. Id highly recommend the back room, hartleys or waring house if you want a drink out in town.
The weekly beer choice was a good variety of styles, and matched the food specials. Anticipate having order envy as you see other choices come out of the kitchen. But don't worry it's all good. (Speaking from personal experience)
Started off rocky when our server wouldn't seat our table of 8 together. We managed to arrange ourselves while she was away for drinks and that didn't go over well. Things turned around by the end (some at our table were giving as well as they got) so it was fine. Service aside the food was great. Solid fish and chips, great wings with a thai tamarind sweet sauce (they come the full wing and not banjo and drumstick so watch out), good burger, etc. Happy in the end.
Really great atmosphere. We stopped for lunch and the food and service were great. Fantastic fries. :) A good selection of local beer and ciders.
Great local beer selection. Service was fast and friendly with a decent selection of food. Try the burger or fish tacos. Atmosphere was clean cozy and cool. Recommended .
Great food, if a bit pricey. Charming servers. Come by for drinks on weeknights and be treated to a wonderful community, local musicians, karaoke, trivia and dancing. Just be aware that the capacity is quite low, so you might get turned away at the door if the place is hopping.
Everything is alright. Fish and chip the fish and batter ratio is off and fish is flavorless. Lamb burger same issue.. well cooked but lacking in some flavor that make the meat pop.
Mediocre and overpriced. Wouldn’t go back. Staff isn’t friendly and takes forever to get anything. Despite owners reply to save face, Ive heard the same from many people. Again over-priced mediocre food with rude staff. Won’t go back or recommend to anyone.
Quiet place, limited menu. It seems like a quite famous since it was one of just few open at 8pm on Sunday. Just as usual dinner restaurant with no exotic atmosphere or menu. It offers different domestic beers from local breweries and I guess interesting vines too since this area is famous about fine vineyards.
Very poor service. I got there at 7h45pm on a Sunday but the waitress said the kitchen was already closed (even if the closing hours is 09pm) more than an hour before??! She said the kitchen had turned off the oil already. It was very disrespectful, I got there from Sandbanks following a recommendation from another restaurant.
I recieved the message from the owner in regards to fire code and other reasons.... I went next door to another restaurant same size or even smaller and they were able to accomodate my baby and stroller. I had explained to the staff that there is no car seat with my stroller. My 4 month old baby was sleeping and could not detach the seat from the stroller since it will not sit straight on a chair like a car seat.
We were looking for a place in Picton to grab a late lunch and this place did not disappoint. The nachos were delicious and the kids enjoyed their meals. They had a nice variety of local drinks too.
The menu is so much better than the execution. Sadly not a single meal we had at the Canteen was really worth talking about. With so many other restaurants to choose from in the County I doubt we'll be back. Should you go? Well honestly if you're going more for drinks and ambience, yes, it's a nice place. But just have low expectations for the food and you'll be just fine.
Great service and the food was really good.
Food was very good. Best part about it is their beer selection on tap. Lots of local brew so gave me a chance to try different beer from local breweries. Great service as well.
Lovely little gem in Picton! Great service. Our party of three ordered the quesadilla, a side of fries with the homemade garlic aoli sauce; fish tacos; and a burger. The food was expertly prepared and delicious! We will definitely return on our next visit to Picton!
The County Canteen was great. The staff are friendly and courteous without being overly present, the beer, cider, and wine selection is very varied, and the food was tremendously delicious. Not overly refined, generous portions, well seasoned and intelligently crafted food. If I was lucky enough to come to Picton more often, they would know me by name.
Love this place. Great selection of local craft brews, perfectly sized menu (I had the fish tacos and they were great), good ambiance, good service (bartender Matt is the man!), live entertainment. I'd recommend calling ahead. If you're in The County, check them out.
Came here two evenings in a row and loved every appetizer and main we tried. The staff was extremely attentive and the prices very reasonable.
The food was just great - a big portion of Greek salad with lots of olives and a quesadilla. The service was very good too - quick and the ladies that work there were nice and friendly. We had to wait for about half an hour as there was a waiting list, but it was totally worth it!
The food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. The owner is kind and warm. Staff is wonderful. Can't say anything else but enjoy!
They always have technical difficulties in the restaurant…
It was alright, wasn't really impressed with the food. Although the service was good. I had the fish tacos, and they were kind of bland.. I would have liked them to have more flavor maybe something sweet added to them. Also I didn't like the corn starch tortilla with it, it didn't go well with it. I would have preferred a white flour tortilla or something. Also, the Jamaican Jerk chicken wings that my partner got were disappointing too, he would have liked them to be breaded and the smell of the jerk chicken was turning our stomachs. I was surprised that this place had a high rating.. But I guess it's more about the bar aspect, because half the menu was drinks.
Food was yummy and hot, service was good, had a big selection of beers as well. Overall a great experience.
Friendly service and very good food. The steak sandwich was amazing. Nice selection of beers on tap.
Wow. Fabulous pulled pork sandwich & black bean burger with fries. Large portions and very reasonably priced. Plenty of craft brews ???? on tap to quench your thirst. Very friendly and accommodating staff, that follows all Covid protocols.
Nice cozy place. Perfect place to stop for a bite too eat, while traveling through Prince Edward County.
Staff is always so nice and friendly whenever we go in, which is about 2 times a week. The appetizers are amazing. Always love the Ruben egg rolls.. sooo good!!! Only thing I would suggest is that they keep a supply of milk on hand for when I come in. ????
Wow what a wonderful surprise this was. We drove to Picton on our way to sand bank beach and stopped for lunch. Not knowing where to go this restaurant was right where we parked and boy am I glad. The service was excellent the atmosphere rustic yet quaint. My husband and I offered 3 dishes to share. The duck flat bread, fish tacos and Ribs. The flavor profile especially on the ribs that just melted of the bones was incredible. The tacos were amazing and the flat bread a delight. If you drive through Picton you must stop and eat here. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Menu is very limited with many deep fried items. Starters almost the same price as mains. Service was adequate. Seating arrangements nice but outdoor bars stools uncomfortable. Bar items expensive. Good COVID protocols.
Decent restaurant, good service. Get the burger.
A nice little small town restaunt. I found the menu limited but most options that I saw looked very appetizing. The ambiance is great
Been coming to the canteen since 2018 and have never had any issue or complaint! Usually get the Wollenburger made veggie and got it tonight and it had a new patty on it, before it was delicious and now its even better! Love the new veggie patty, super flavourful and crispy exterior! Love coming here and will continue to return and bring new friends!!
Honestly, I wasn't hopeful about this restaurant because good to great restaurants outside of the GTA are scarce, but wow was I in for a surprise. The service was good. I believe her name was Simmonds. The restaurant was clean and it has a very cool atmosphere to it. Definitely not a mom and pop atmosphere. More jazz/modern than home cooking. Home cooking can be awesome too, but sometimes you just want something more and county canteen delivers mightily. Okay, let's get to why people would go there, the food. At first blush, the menu seems more about the wine and craft beer offerings, a ordering a flight sampler of local craft beer is a must. We trusted our server to pick for us, 4 light to medium beers and one cider and she did very well. Anyway, the dinner menu seemed small, but very diverse, from gluten free options to well the Asian Ribs I ordered. I had pretty much given up on pork ribs. I found they all tasted the same and I had migrated to beef ribs. Oh man was I in for a culinary experience with these ribs. They were outstanding. I ate beyond my limit, simply because I couldn't stop, they were so delicious. I reluctantly shared with my family so they could taste them and even my chicken finger/pizza kids loved them. Speaking of my wonderful kids, they ordered the basics. Chicken fingers for one and fish and chips for the other. Basic fare but that what kids want anyway, although, the kids fish and chips was impressive too. Who knew that cod could taste that good? Definitely not your typical cpt. Highliner fare. Anyway, my boss (wife) , ordered the fish tacos and loved them! I am usually the one writing notes on the back of the receipt, but she beat me to it. Great job county canteen. If I could make a suggestion, I would change to dessert menu to place a greater emphasis on being locally sourced. I think that they were, but you should brag a bit more. Other than that, thank you county canteen for a fantastic end to our vacation.
Went there for dinner over Easter weekend. Decided to check it out based on the reviews and menu options, I thought this would be great! But it was a big let down. Food that should be served cold was room temperature, food that should be served hot was slightly above room temperature. The menu sounded really good, but the execution on all the dishes were such a let down. Nothing tasted intentional, more like it was thrown together. I just got the feeling this place was trying to be a niche hip toronto style restaurant, but lack the experience to properly execute it. I wouldn't go back, and probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Sorry.
Great selection of local beers (24 beers on tap!). Enjoyed the bands on the weekends, as well as the rustic ambiance.
Delicious sandwiches/burgers and awesome service! :)
Had a bite to eat and tried to make a reservation for the following night before a show. Was told no reservations, showed up the following night and was turned away for not having a reservation. Food was ok, friendly service, hipster vibe.
Amazing! Highly recommended brisket Sammie, and great craft beer options!
My coworkers and I were in town and needed a place to eat that was open past 9pm. Service was good. Steaks came a little too rare for “medium rare.” Still an overall good experience.
It is a great place to eat when dining in and usually great service and good atmosphere, but it is a very small dining area so it seems quite busy, however, On a side note tho they say they offer takeout on their website, however their often too busy with their dine-in customers.
Had a nice late dinner here. They had a very nice selection of beers. The tomato lentil soup was very good. I had a beef stew pot pie which was on point. For dessert, I had a red velvet cake which was very rich but good. Service was friendly.
This place is really charming. Service was great, and the ambiance is cozy. We had some struggles with accommodating my onion and garlic intolerance -kitchen didn't have dressing besides caesar and buttermilk ranch, both of which are garlic based. Our server was great at trying to make some kind of alternate dressing happen. I wound up with a dish of olive oil on the side of my fall root vegetables salad which seemed a bit like revenge, to be honest-really, you don't have lemon juice or balsamic vinegar back there? I'll stir it together myself :). Regardless, the salad was delicious and the burger might be the best I've had this year, blended with herbs and served on an amazing buttery brioche bun. Kitchen should be aware that people have things they can't eat besides gluten and meat-onion/garlic intolerance is pretty common and there's no reason it should be that impossible to have basic substitutions for these, especially when I order the most adaptable item on the menu to make it easier.
Amazing burgers and great craft beer selection. Excellent service.
Went to try them for the first time, made sure I called ahead, made sure there was no wait time for takeaway orders. I was assured that there was no wait time for takeaway orders. I show up to pay after my day at work, they don't even have my order. Got to walk away with no dinner. Very disappointing first experience with them. Won't be back.
Love the staff here. Pubby home feel but clean and modern. Nice patio. I'm addicted to the ribs. Who doesn't love a pile of saucy meat. Great cocktail list
Rating is for service only as we didn't get to eat. This place was recommended and we knew they didn't take reservations. No problem. We stopped in, left our number and were told 45 minutes. We asked the server where we could go for a drink in the meantime since it was chilly & the shops were closed so we couldn't just wander around. We had just received our drinks when we were called. I explained and asked if they could just seat the next table & call us next, to which she agreed. We walked back about 45 minutes after the call & were told it would be another 45 minutes because they seated at least 5 tables in the meantime! I saw the list of names. There were only 2-3 after us, so they must have been walk- ins. At this point it was late, and the server was rude when we questioned her about what happened. If they could not accommodate our request we should have been told & we would have eaten where we had our beer.
I cannot say enough good things. We had purchased their Thanksgiving meal and there was a slight issue. I called and it was rectified in a matter of seconds and they went over and above. Thank you so much.
Great atmosphere, awesome food with GF DF options. Nothing beats live music as well.
Worst service, the waitress was very rude! This place failed me for the second time!
A lot of hype for an overpriced pub. Lunch for 2 adults and an 8 yr old, with small beers was $75! Good location, but food was not great.
Good patio space - with shade - on the main drag. Tasty lunch offerings. Fish tacos were good, the burger was a win. Big portions.
Friendly staff and great food. I had the wings and my husband had the tacos both were very good. I saw a bowl of Thai curry go by and that's what I'm having next time it smelled awesome.
Busy spot. Staff was friendly and played extra attention to the young one (child) we had with us. All the food was good, but the kitchen was slammed and it was slow. Wouldn't have any problem going back, but it's not the be all end all of Picton
Great fish tacos ???? Amazing staff and service. ????????
Very friendly staff. The atmosphere is pretty nice usually. There is a small patio in the summer. Good variety of beers and drinks. There are flights as well. The food is good. Usually it’s pretty busy here on weekends and specially summer time is always busy.
Best option for food along Picton's main street. Great service, food, and prices. Next time I'm in Picton, I'll have to come back!
The County Canteen is a brew pub and restaurant on Picton's Main Street. At first glance, their menu is typical pub fare, wings, burgers, sandwiches, etc. However it's all put together with care and they add unique spices, seasonings, pickles, etc to all of their dishes so they taste different from other places. There is an extensive beer and wine list to suit the taste of just about anyone in your party.
Sat at the bar and had a great time. They completely overcooked both burgers, but we had fun anyway.
The food was unfortunately dry and not very tasty. That aside the service was very bad. The servers seemed angry and annoyed that we were there. Such an unfortunate experience. We were out to celebrate and were so disappointed.
We had the fish and chips and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice atmosphere and you can sit on main St.
The food and service was top notch.
Not only do they have a fabulous space ..they have a great assortment of local wines, beers and spirits along with other favourites. They have a creative assortment of cocktails, their food is to die for (beer battered fish and chips, and the Wollenburger is the best thing ever...my mouth is watering now just typing this.) The servers are wonderful, very attentive, and this location is always in demand, for good reason. Go expecting to wait a bit, but it's worth the wait....every time.
Perfect food, great atmosphere with music setting the mood great as well. Lovely fun drinks while watching the bartender work her magic and wonderful cheery staff!
came here due to the fact it was the only restaurant accepting walk ins. First impressions weren't the best but definitely the last. I walked by the kitchen to use the washrooms and noticed the kitchen floors were dirty and counter space as well looked dirty and unorganized. Order nachos that were burnt and stuck to the wax paper, fish tacos were tasteless, and the fish n chips had under cooked fish with a uneatable part inside that i was told was a "blood line"...not what i wanted to hear after eating under cooked fish. Also fries looked and tasted as if they sat at the bottom of fryer. Really disappointing and never returning here again.
The fish tacos were horrible and had no taste. The Nachos were also very forgettable. If you enjoy good food, don’t go looking for it here. Disappointing.
Food tastes so good, and the waitress are nice~~ :))
Just returned from having another bite at the Canteen and I must say it remains consistent and genuine - high quality, delicious, fair fare prices. Fish tacos are among the best to be found anywhere including southern climes. Staff are always on point and efficient.
Great spot for a few drinks in Prince Edward County. It was pretty busy on a Friday night and had a fantastic piano player singing cover songs. Beer selection was awesome. They had local beer and some from the GTA on tap. Would definitely go back.
Love the place, homemade food, craft beer and cider
Delicious food and very nice/informative staff. Definitely check this place out!
Great service, great food, great selection. What else would you want?
Fries, vegetables, bread.. well Every food from this restaurant is good. And also the staff was good nice with us.
Service may have been the best to date. Food was beyond expectations, would recommend in a heart beat. Atmosphere very comforting.
Great food, great atmosphere/vibe and friendly service. This place offers local beers and ciders from all over the county. Their chicken wings are amazing and a must try.
A good place in downtown Picton. The food is standard pub fare and the service is friendly. They seem to still be figuring out the new COVID world rules, but overall a pleasant evening. They have a nice little outdoor area for the warmer weather.
Friendly service. Delicious food. A favorite place to eat in picton
Fantastic food and service! This place is family friendly, especially if you have young kids!
Had a really bad experience here and will not be going back. If you are looking for a place with great and actually friendly staff and atmosphere, try Hartleys or Stellas, also in town.
Fish and chips was by far worst I've ever had, batter was insanely thick and parts weren't cooked. Cool vibes there otherwise. Wednesday December 19th 8pm
The guy serving us gave me two half beers even though they only served 14 ounces, went out of his way to help me out. Great food, great service, highly recommend!
My husband and I went on Canada Day, and they only have around 6 tables available on their patio. The wait was around 25mins. They call you when your seat is ready. The service was good, and the waiters are friendly, but the food is mediocre. The fish we had had great batter, crispy and light, but it wasn't seasoned, it was quite bland. The fried chicken sandwich was the same, the batter's texture was good though. The fries were descent. Pricing was okay.
Burgers and tacos was delicious. Beer selection pretty good. We go back.
This is an excellent restaurant. The minute we walked in the staff was friendly and attentive. The owner even sat down with us and had a nice chat. They have a huge selection of wine and beers and the owners make their own microbrews that disappear the day they are tapped. The bruschetta we ordered for appetizers was fresh and came with unique spoons to spread your own bruschetta mix. The main courses were hot and excellent. The Wollen burger was cooked a juicy medium and came with black angus cheese, sautéed onions, pork belly and all the fixin’s. The fries that came with were crispy and came with tasty chipotle ketchup. My mom had the fish taco, which she said was well cooked with a light batter and fresh salsa. My aunt had the steak sandwich, which came with a tasty pesto, and sprinkling of cheese with sautéed mushrooms and fries. For dessert we chose the mocha Crème brûlée that had a hot and crackly sugar crust and a perfectly smooth and creamy custard underneath. We would definitely like to come back to see the live music at night. This place is night owl friendly and at the earliest closes at 11:30 pm. Fairly priced at and average of $15-20 for a main and very clean. We had an excellent night and I would recommend this restaurant to everyone!
Some of our party had excellent food. The atmosphere is neat and the decor is fitting for the County and the style. personally my food was distinctly off, so unfortunately I had to send it back. Perhaps another try is in order. I was charged full price and was not offered another option for my food. However the other five meals were lovely and everyone had a great time. The bar menu us amazing!
Nothing spectacular in a town that has limited dinner options. Service was OK/good, but food seemed to try too hard to be 'different' rather than being tasty for families. If you like food that is different, but not necessarily great tasting, this might be your ideal place.
Went here for countylicious, they had an Aussie inspired menu. And crikey was it good! I've had kangaroo sausage before, it's usually dry, but these were cooked perfectly! Not dry at all. And my wife had the lamb burger, again. Wonderful.
Open till 10pm, kitchen closes at 9pm. Hours need to be updated for tourists.
Great food! Great drinks! Great people! Great times! ...and they'll do take out to! Best burger in PEC!
Unfortunately, all our mussels dishes had 1/5 of them raw, and one of my friend ended up diarrhea. and when we paid the bill, the waitress insisted the bill was not gratitude included, while they are (as we are a group of 6+), and we ended up paying 36% tips...
Visiting the area from Calgary Alberta on our motorcycle. Service was great and the food was awesome. Hopefully this place is still here for a long time.
Crispy fish tacos and Brisket poutine, enjoyed every bite, simply awesome, fast friendly and local.
Best hamburger so far! A Bacon burger with lettuce tomato grilled to perfection. I found it pricey, almost $40.00 for 2 burgers, but absolute quality. I would return to try other items since the burger was great and their chef is excellent.
Fast, friendly service and tasty food. Also great for grabbing a pint of craft beer. One of our favorites in the County.
We waited for about 20-30 mins for a table (after double checking with the hostess that the veggie burger was vegan), only to be told by the waiter that the bun contained egg. They have no vegan options on the menu at all, so we just left. Disappointing.
I have never felt so uncomfortable or unwelcome in a restaurant in my life. I would give this zero stars if I could. We received no communication by the servers/bartenders from the start. My friend asked for some clarification on the draught beers, they were majority local breweries. The server seemed very bothered by this questioning. A woman ordering a beer in PEC, unbelievable! No one asked to refill our drinks, water, “how’s the food?” Nothing. They ignored our attempts to make eye contact or polite ‘excuse me’ to get their attention. I have never seen anything like it. It felt very deliberate and I truly cannot understand what we did to be treated this way. Pièce de résistance of the night: after paying and leaving we turn around just outside the front door to see the bar staff and their (I’m assuming) friends sitting at the bar all waving us goodbye! This was NOT a friendly goodbye, this was a good riddance, eff off, never come back. I am honestly appalled. This place needs to clean house yesterday. No one who feels that it is okay to treat patrons in such a way deserves to be working at one of the county’s better known establishments. I’m sure there would be line ups of candidates ready to take their place. And before the owner logs on to respond to my review to tell me how ‘incredibly’ amazing and kind and excellent their staff is – I don’t want to hear it. Take a look at other recent reviews, it’s not me, it’s not other reviewers, it’s you and your staff.
Food: Fries were really nice. Nice runny eggs. Very salty ribs. So salty it was sour. Kids manu - chicken fingers were nice. Grilled chees were not grilled enough. Cheese were not melted. Eggs benny - Norm. Spicy ketchup is more like sweet salsa, good though. Service: Great
Great live music on the Friday. Fish tacos were good and ceasar salad was fantastic. A bit hard to get into but worth it once you're in.
We had a nice time here. Live music, great drinks and good food. The ribs were over salted but overall a good experience. Would come back.
We were told this was the happening place in town. Friendly staff, live music and great food. Sounds happening p me. There is seating on the patio, complete with overhead heaters and blankets for chilly evenings. Lots of beers on tap, both local and other Ontario craft brews and of course local wines. They have sharing plates as well as a full dinnet menu. The dinner menu is perfect, no endless pages of options but basic dishes with twists. Something for everyone. After a day of wines and craft beers, we changed it up and enjoyed some whiskies and the brewers plate. Fun, cozy and friendly atmosphere. Popular with locals. We enjoyed the live solo music show. Definitely worth a stop.
Atmosphere is great, the service was wonderful too! Servers were sweet, and we got our drinks and food quite fast. Poutine and Caesar salads there are 10/10. Highly recommend!
Good food and good performance night.
It came recommended, and as a watering hole it may serve you well, but I was underwhelmed with the food. Menu is slightly imaginative, but execution feels like there was either an herb or a spice, or perhaps a tiny bit of TLC omitted. Regrettably, it comes just short of a good gastro experience. Mind you, some "large" beers are served in what is well less than a pint glass. Neato that you have some brand specific glasses, but don't upsell me on the larger beer and serve me 12ish ounces.
Dropped by Jan. 27/16 ... What lovely lil pub. Brick and stone walls, black painted chairs/trim, menus on clip boards and chalk labelling on the walls give it a comfortable setting. We had a sampler of beers ( 5, 5oz glasses with a printed list of chosen beers), wings and fries. The beer selection is great for such a small community, the wings were beautifully presented and nice and spicy. However ...the French fries are even better ...maybe the best I've ever had. The waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. The 2 of us split the snack and though it was expensive ... It WAS worth it. I WILL GO BACK ...SOON ! See you there maybe.
I really wanted to come here because the food looked good, the environment too and the waiters were super nice. Mostly because I'm vegetarian and they have portobello mushroom burgers!! Anyway, i wasn't a big fan of the food, the fries were burned (i could see the table next to me had fries a completely different shade), the mushroom was pretty small inside the bun and it had a strong taste of vinegar. Judging by the reviews here I'm sure good food comes out but unfortunately i didn't experience that.
Beer, food, service, and atmosphere 10/10. Try the Brewer's Platter - it's amazing.
Great food, great service. I had Ben waiting a while to try this place and I'm sad I waited so long. A little gem!
The service was good but the vegetarian option were waaay overpriced and incomplete as a meal. The rest seemed nice, I just don't recommend this place for vegetarians and vegans.
Great place to eat. Awesome fish tacos and friendly service. Sit outside if weather is nice!
I stopped here for lunch with my wife. We both enjoyed the food, and the patio on main street. My only complaint was that the menu was a bit limited.
It was ok. The food was good but my salad was not very plentiful. My husband's burger with fries was loaded. We sat in the outside patio. As it is on the main street there were often groups of noisy motorcycles going by. The servers weren't particularly friendly but they were efficient. Not sure if we'd go back.
Very nice atmosphere. The food was great. Server was very attentive. Would have drank if we didn't have to drive. Will definitely come back!
Visited this restaurant with a larger motorcycle group. The staff was curtious and helpful and setup a large table for us on the patio. They took our orders promptly, and the service was quick. Had fish tacos and they were delicious with a good portion size. Would recommend.
Excellent food and a great drink selection in a pleasant but informal atmosphere.
Great atmosphere, great updated menu, great events weekly, great brews on tap!
Throw out all the reviews prior to October 2020! This place is the best. Totally cool staff, great food, amazing owners. We were there for a couple days and changed our whole schedule so that we could get there for more!! Best nachos in years, succulent brisket and super fun rueben egg rolls. Run, don’t walk, to County Canteen next time you’re anywhere near!!
A group of us stopped in on the weekend for a later dinner. The service and food were both very good
I thought I would try the country canteen despite the negative reviews lately. Very disappointed with the bland over cooked fish and chips. We also had the fish taco and were very unpleased with the taste of them. The Fries are ok but the coleslaw was terrible. Would not recommend you even try this place unless your desperate!
This restaurant looks nice, and inviting from the outside. It was nice inside, and had a great atmosphere. All the staff were very friendly, and attentive. Best service I have had anywhere in a long time. We ordered the Wollenburger, and the Lobster Sandwich. Both came with fries. The food was delicious. The meals were hot and all ingredients were fresh. There was a house special ketchup served with it, which was incredible. They played great music the whole time I was there. A variety of people were there, from couples, to families, and people at the bar. If you're in Picton, this is definitely the place you should go to eat.
Amazing food! Try their house hot sauces, you can even buy bottles to take home.
Great food, excellent service, warm cozy atmosphere with live music to boot!
Everything was amazing......service and food both. We stay at our family cottage close by and have been so impressed with the awesome food each time we have come here. Way to go County Canteen I am seldom impressed but can tell the creativity and effort put into everything.
Consistently good, you really can't go wrong!
Went there because good reviews but the ribs were very salty and the ribs tasted old. The French onion soup was way to salty. The waitress was great though
The bartender was friendly and attentive. The coating on the fish was warm and crispy but the fish itself was tasteless and Bland. It has a nice warm atmosphere, but they could use a TV or two behind the bar
Staff very nice and accommodating. Food was delicious and they had flights of various craft beer to try. Would definitely return.
Fish tacos and Coconut Green Curry were excellent. Service was lightning quick and service was stellar!
Fish tacos were not very good. Didnt have a good experience. We were seated at the back by the toilet and by the A/C . It was super cold. My husband liked his fish and chips.
Service was not great, I understand that there is a pandemic, however as someone who works in the industry, it is still in poor taste to not ask if the food is good or if the guests need drink refills. Food was good, however the portions are small, particular the Lamb "burger" this burger was TINY. Overall, I might give it another chance however it is highly unlikely.
Very cool modern place to eat and have a drink as well. Food was on point!! Great location!!
Quaint little place in Picton Ontario. The ribs were delicious! Highly recommend ????????
Fantastic apps, creative mains and a wonderful friendly atmosphere. Staff are attentive knowledgeable and super friendly. Great place for an after work beer, pre-night out cocktail, or a wonderful easy going dinner. They have it all. The patio out front is fantastic for people watching!
Great food. Friendly service. Awesome beer and cocktail list. Reasonable prices. Would definitely come back.
Great place loved it!!
The wollenburger is juicy and served with very fresh greens as well as some of the best fries I’ve had. Service was great and complementary to sitting on the patio
More of a drinks spot than a restaurant. Food options limited. The food was not bad, the burgers were better than the other options.
nice little, pub style restaurant, enjoyed the flight of beer, food was really good but menu is limited compared to a full restaurant. tourist spot, but didn't have many other options for downtown at that time.
Food is good and plenty of beers on tap to choose from. It however has a high traffic touristy vibe which is alright but it makes it bland.
We really enjoyed our meal of Fish and Chips plus a flight of beer. The fish and chips were really good. Our beers were choosen based on our likes and they were a good selection. Cute decor
Had a great waitress... infectious smile and wonderful! Always great food and atmosphere!
Nice little restaurant with great local craft beer on tap.
One of my favourite places in Picton to eat and try to visit every time I am in the area.
Awesome food and fair pricing. Lots of craft beef on tap. Very nice place
Good variety of beer and wine. Friendly, informed service. Haven't tried the food, but it looks and smells good?
Certified carnivore and I love the Ameliasburgher, and not just for the pun. Basically their entire burger/sandwich menu is unbeatable in the county. Their tacos come in threes and are massive. Would get drunk here every night for the rest of my life 10/10
Came here with a few friends during our little trip to PEC. Most of us got the fish/tacos and the wholly burger. Great portions given out and food was tasty. The fish was a bit flavourless. Was tasty with the tartar sauce and spicy mayo. Fries were nice and crisp. Good selection of craft beer on tap. Decent prices for what you’re getting. Service was fine. Our waiter was friendly.
Amazing food and generous portions...Great cocktails too! Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. One of my favourites in Picton!
Quaint little place, food was good and Melody was wonderful. Thank you ????
A dingy rustic experience. A bacon cheeseburger with caramelized onions, had some room to be worked on but didn’t disappoint. However my lamb burger had to be sent back the first time for *reasons* so by the time I was able to eat my wife had already finished. The heart breaking fact was the *reasons* were enough that we felt that it should have been comped, it was not. The price seems high for what you get when you eventually get it.
Nice customer service and delicious food!
Food is fresh and flavourful. We had nachos last time and shared. It filled two adults and was delish! And as always a great selection of beer. My fav, flying monkeys raspberry hibiscus.
Great service. Food recommendation was bang on. Wish there was more seating to enjoy this gem.
The food was decent pub fare. The patio was nice. But our server was unbelievably rude. It felt like we were intruding on her when we were one of two tables on the patio. "Here you can hand out your own waters, I'm not reaching over you". When we asked what the rotating tap was, "your friend at the other end of the table already asked". Many more examples! I hope it was just a bad day for her. Otherwise it would have been a great lunch.
Very good selection for beers, amazing variation on the nightlife in Picton (live music quite a few evenings). The menu is simple and has some flavourful options on it. I've had the wings twice, and they haven't really blown me away. While having good flavours the wings themselves are too big for my liking. Their nachos are delicious, as is their cheesy bread. Definitely hoping to return to try some of their daily specials. Be sure to try the homemade sauces they have available.
We ate there on a Sunday night and the food was excellent! High quality and generous portions. We had the Greek salad, fish tacos and a wagu loyalist hamburger delicious! The staff were very friendly and gave us tips what to do in November during the off season! We will definitely be back!
The new patio is awesome! The FOOD is fantastic! We had calamaris they were the best we ever had! Ceasar salad again great! Burger and the wings...I ate every one of them! Awesome Anniversary. Service was also Awesome! He was on us all the time with service. Totally will tell all the County to go and exsperience our new Canteen!
Well, at first I was tempted to vent and go into the whole scenario, but that'll just bore everyone so I'll summarize: - Our little dog has to travel with us and can't be left alone at our rentals. - Last year County Canteen was great and welcoming about having us park him on the other side of the fence while we sat at one of the spots on the sidewalk patio. - This year - definitely weren't made to feel welcome and were encouraged to move along. So I'm doing County Canteen a favour with this review as well as others who appreciate options when travelling with doggie: They don't want you there and you don't want to bother trying - it'll avoid awkwardness for everyone. Thanks for reading and hope this helps. Edit after owner response: Please re-read what I posted - nothing I was talking about was in contravention of health codes - dog was to be on other side of fenced area. Please try to avoid the patronizing tone.
This place went downhill. Cold meal, looks like from Costco package Hamburger cold and undercooked.
We went there twice during our stay in Prince Edward County. The service was quick and courteous, everyone wearing masks for COVID and following protocol. The food was really good and they have a good selection of local beer.
Arrived at restaurant at 6:45 without a reservation. We were told there was a forty minute wait. We figured the food had to be good and agreed to wait on the patio. Forty minutes later were seated and server came right away. Ordered rice wraps and deep fried smoked meat / Swiss cheese / sauerkraut / potato balls. Neither appetizer was great, just ok. Would not order again. Main of steak sandwich with Caesar salad on the side. Sandwich was good but the salad had brown wilted lettuce like it was from two weeks prior. It was a major disappointment coming from such a seemingly decent restaurant. Would I go back? No. Would I recommend to my friends? No. There are plenty of other good choices where you can spend your hard earned dollars for a much better meal.
We had a really lovely lunch here today! We ordered the fish tacos and the burger special (their version of a Big Mac) and both were really delicious. The portions are quite large! The service was great. I would come back again!
I visited the County Canteen 2 weeks ago with my 3 best friends. The service was horrible and the food was awful as well. We saw tables of people come and go before we received our food that took 1 hour. The waitress could not recommend anything on the menu except for one of the appetizers. When we did receive our food the bun of the burger was black and so charred it was unetible. The fish tacos were very bland and my chickpea curry was disgusting. To top it all off we asked for the bill , waited 15 minutes only to find the waitress behind the bar eating herself. Very Disappointing!
