REVIEWS OF The Bean Counter Café IN Picton

Connie Zeneri

We stopped for a quick coffee and wow! The iced latte was incredible, very smooth. There were many options for Italian soda, and the flat white was such a highlight. Washrooms were clean and staff was friendly.

Simon Grenier-Corriveau

Great little place very central in Picton to unwind and gather for coffee, light snacks and baked goods. There is a great choice of high quality hot and warm drinks, sandwiches and soups. There is plenty of tables and the atmosphere is very inviting.

Alicia McDonald

A world-class cafe (and I say this as an avowed LOVER of good cafes)--excellent food, great coffee, cozy atmosphere... heck, even the smell of the place is just right: the rich aroma of coffee and dried teas mixes with the scents of fresh soups, sandwiches, and other handmade snacks to make you want to stay all day and gab with the incomparably welcoming and cheery folks working the counter. 10/10!

Sophie Terra

Nice cafe but sandwiches and squares were a bit pricey for the items received. The Reuben sandwich was pretty run of the mill compared to other cafes. Chai latte was delish though.

Carol Dineen

Cute spot, friendly service and good coffee!! We tried the Mean Bean Frappe which was so good, almost too good. We also shared the Deluxe grilled cheese and it was super yummy, totally hit the spot for us. We will definitely be back.

Chuck Thibert

Delicious scones and iced coffee! We also loved the quaint patio on Main St.

Waylon Fiorotto-Bickert

The coffee tasted good, but there were so many bees around patios that it was hard to enjoy. The service was bad and rude. I don’t recommend this place a lot.

Aaron Wiik

Coffeshop with personality set in an old historical building. The place has its own warm atmosphere unlike franchises like Starbucks or Tim Hortons. We had 2 sandwiches that were excellent; the bread, meat and vegetables were fresh and the portions were decent. Coffee was also good. I recommend this place if you seek to eat decent, affordable healthy food in picton as the choice of restaurants is unfortunately poor eg: burgers and fries kingdom. Its obviously a good place to enjoy a coffee and browse the net etc.

Yodaman Solo

I ordered a medium pumpkin spice latte. The aroma was pleasant and the taste was very delicious. However, I was very disappointed that they did not have a pumpkin dessert. It would be a great combination with the latte. We are already in the pumpkin season! Please come out with a pumpkin cheesecake, or muffins, pies, donuts, scones, and bagels!

Melissa Price

I enjoy coming here for a coffee even though I never find the staff all that welcoming. It’s all good though. Nice little cafe ????

Dani Brant

Service was slow and the two girls working had attitudes. I would not go there again. I'm from out of town but their demeanors were not welcoming at all.

Grace Bayliss

Excellent....... The food is absolutely delightful...gelato is light and delicious, the staff is excellent knowledgeable polite and kind.. The Establishment is welcoming unique very presentable, a welcoming little patio to sit and watch the passers by,,, and just be. Affogato is delicious.

Katie K

Yum yum yum! Great scones and breakfast place. I have yet to try the gelato but I'm guessing so delicious judging by they rest I've tried!!!!!

Maureen Laurent

Staff were brutal. They acted like I wasnt even there. I wanted to order gelato and stood there forever ..for a moment I thought I was invisible. Finally a rather unfriendly girl served me and made such a mess of the bowl of gelato when it was handed it to me it was all over my hands and dripped off on my pants. Then to add more misery she made us wait in line again to pay. (huge line to the end of dessert display ) are you effing kidding me?? So while we wait..our gelato melts and by the time we finally pay all the seats are taken from patrons that arrived long after we did. Not one smile from staff. I like the gelato but never again. Ill go to mio gelato instead.

Berkley Miller

Incredibly tasty breakfast bagel. Friendly staff and a solid flat white.

marco villarta

The food is very good: the pork tourtiere has a lot of meat and is served with homemade ketchup, and the garden salad side dish is made of fresh vegetables. Beverages and dessert (lemon square) are tasty. It is the place to go to enjoy a book and a coffee in Picton.

Abigail Duerksen

So far, they have always been friendly and we have not had a bad experience yet. Their quiche and breakfast bagel are both really great choices. We will definitely be back to try other items as well.

Paul Papadopoulos

Have been several times and staff never warm up. You have to ask for water, bring your own dishes back and i spilled some of my coffee on the patio and they made me pay for a new one, not going back. Never heard of a no-refill policy for drip coffee before. Miss lilys is far better service atmosphere and oh yes, free refills to your liking especially if you spill something!

Dewan Karim

Best coffee in town and the staff are super nice

Apple Orange

Great coffee and variety of other drinks. Delicious baked goods, gelato, lots of choice on the menu - something to suit all (vegetarian, gluten free, etc) Lovely staff. Employees are working very hard in a small town full of tourists during a global health pandemic, they deserve respect from us as customers. Thank you Bean Counter!

Anya Rozman

We ordered Deluxe Grilled Cheese sandwiches for our kids. The menu did not state what "deluxe" meant (I thought it might be three cheeses). When it arrived, it contained bacon (we are vegetarians) and asked for it to be replaced. Well, the attitude by the staff was atrocious. They put the blame on us and refused to either refund us a portion of our money since plain Grilled Cheese is much cheaper or offer any type of consolation (my kids would have been happy with a free cookie). Walked over three doors to the Beacon Bike and Brew and got excellent service and satisfaction. Never again.

Austin Paek

They have quite handful of variety for Gluten Free. In Drinks we tried 'The County Bounty Drink: Strawberry flavour' which was sweet and tangy in taste ( and it was GF) Food: Veggie falafel, Lots of veggies within wrap but it was quite bland in taste.

S Alexander

This is a great little Cafe. They have coffee, tea, lattes, as well as a variety of cold drinks. The baked goods are fresh and delicious. The sandwiches are ????‍???????? (chef's kiss). So tasty. Prices are also very reasonable. Just delicious, can't recommend enough!

Robert Barkin

Ordered a coffee, it didn’t seem right, was also not very warm, I spilled it out and asked for a refill on something different and they wanted to charge me for it, won’t go back.

matt barber

The bean counter is an excellent little niche in Picton with good quality food and coffee. Has a nice homey and welcoming interior that lends to its relaxing atmosphere.

mrunal ambardekar

Lovely service and tasty treats! The Nanaimo bar is by far the best I've ever had!!

Achim Mohssen-Beyk

This was a great find on our trip to PEC! The food was fantastic and the friendly staff were amazing in catering to dietary restrictions. While on our week-long trip to the county, we made this a home base of sorts and stopped daily to fuel up before heading out on the day's adventure. Well worth a stop!

Erica Rennick

Cozy cafe with excellent coffee! They have a great selection of specialty coffee and tea beverages as well as desserts. This is the perfect place to meet a friend or coworkers for a beverage or a special someone for as sweet treat.

Olaf de Winter

Great place in Picton to stop for coffee and snacks. Food is delicious and the coffee is amazing

Jamie Stephenson

Nice, quaint little place, great coffee and yummies. I just wish they had vegan baked foods made in-house, not the store-bought kind, as a review claimed. But don't get me wrong, the vibe is still great.

Blair Falconer

Great atmosphere. Tasty treats and good coffee. A perfect way to start a day while visiting the area.

nancy yang

Really good coffee very sticky door though

M Peterson

Great Matcha..friendly staff and nice little cafe

Karan Cheema

I'm not gonna get caught up in the whole "best coffee in town" debate but this place is definitely a worthy contender for top spot. I guess you'll need to go there and decide for yourself..

Pawel P

Service was very slow and unfriendly. The waitress spilled our drinks (on the plate, table and floor) and never cleaned them up or offered to make new ones despite the fact that our bill for a simple breakfast sandwich and a latte was a whopping 14$. One drink that was ordered never actually came. Food was disappointing for the price. Drinks were okay but nothing special.

Brittany Mann

The cafe is charming and has great coffee and tea selections as well very good food items; unfortunately the young girls serving in the front are not very pleasant or polite. The outside patio trash was overflowing onto the street. Service not impressed at all sorry.

Adrian Murphy

Wonderful cafe, model large c it's crappie chain cafe to think and how to make human scale. Lots of desert and fantastic outdoor view. Lovely street, just seat and watch people pass by.

Juliette Mojgani

Cosy, friendly cafe with delicious coffee, friendly service and a great selection of sandwiches and treats. Highly recommended.

Triya Vadgama

Trudy MacNabb

Nice coffee and ice cream but quite expensive disgusting sandwiches made from the cheapest Walmart ingredients. Mine went directly to the garbage once I have taken it out. I ordered Reuben sandwich.

Doug Sloane

Nice selection of eats and treats. Good coffee, small selection. Friendly environment.

Shane Sweetman

A wide selection of coffees, teas, sweets, and prepared foods to meet your refreshment needs at any time of day. Very friendly staff and a great location for people watching. Oh, and they have french press too...

GJS001

Wicked place for all things coffee, tea, sweets, lunch and more! They allow dogs on the patio which is amazing too because many places dont. We come here everytime we visit the county and the service is very good, the place is always clean, and the food and coffee is not just good, it's great!! I loved the Niagara peach scone, and the Spinach and Feta croissant with our coffees, fresh and tasty as can be.

Darshani K Rayajiwala

The carrot cake, chocolate chip cookie and iced lattes were so good. I can’t wait to come back. Make sure you stop by if you are in the area. Everything tasted fresh and not overly sweet.

Vicky Sayle

Baked goods and sandwiches were great. The coffee was good, but my espresso was not great.

Katou STL

Perfect for a fall or winter day: cozy, nice music, comfortable furniture. This is the type of place where you take your book and leave your worries aways. The only thing negative I find is the hours of operations. I wish they were open a bit later.

Patrick Woltmann

Great food and great coffee! Huge selection on teas!

Mike Miles

A lot of choices, coffee and pastries. The coffee was good but a bit strong but still good. Staff was friendly.

Judee Doyle

This place has great food and friendly service. We loved the soup and all the sandwiches. Would go there again ????

John Wilson

My son really enjoyed the Italian soda here. We bought some coffee for our French press that was locally roasted but we found it only passable.

Faye Moxam

very helpful staff trying hard during the pandemic to please. Give them a chance this place will not dissapoint.

Keith Willey

Delicious treats and superb coffee. Staff not always warm and friendly.

Sam Critchley

The absolute worst service, I waited at the counter for 10 minutes while 4 servers behind the counter would not even say hello or engage in any type of interaction. It was the first 'springy' day and when I finally interupted, asking for some help, I got nothing but a rude response from whatever her name was. I do not recommend and I left feeling very disappointed.

Meghan O'Connor

The vegan icecream was delicious. Seating outside was perfect for us and our dog.

Sam Adams

Very good sandwiches and treats. Currently no indoor seating due to Covid

Tamara Eaton

Expensive coffee, although pretty good. When pointed out prices were wrong by over a dollar after paying, they just said, "ok we will look at fixing it" like it was nothing in a careless non-apologetic attitude. Food there looked good but is largely overpriced. Not recommended.

Colin Milroy

Went for breakfast. Great coffee. They serve St. Viateur Montreal-style bagels and home-made goodies. Friendly staff. Nice outside seating area available. Would go back.

david sugarman

Great place, friendly staff from the moment we walked in, nicely renovated as well- highly recommend.

Émilie Duchesne-Lamirande

A great place to grab a coffee and a light lunch. Their soups are always delish. Love the quiche.

Ali Cat

A great place to go enjoy a coffee, gelato or even a pastry. Relax and top yourself up before moving on to the next wonderful store long the main road of Picton.

Erica Harrold

Because of COVID, can't sit down. Good coffee though

Anthony Leong

Delicious lattes!

K. Thompson

Terrible service. Just dumb staff. I'm not a tourist, I'm a local that lives in Picton and I was just amazed with the lack of common sense with the counter staff. I try to support my local small businesses but this message goes to the owner, I'm not going to be coming back ever again. If your counter staff can't remember that I ordered a coffee then makes eye contact with me many times over the span of five minutes then finally asks "are you waiting for something?" Well ya my coffee. It was not busy. There was only one customer after I ordered and paid. This isn't the first experience like this at the Bean Counter. I hope others don't have to deal with this.

Lisa Vetter

the breakfast bagel is so so good! We had breakfast here 3 days in a row!

Craig Kennedy

Delicious food and drinks! We got the soup and Montreal smoked meat sandwich both were great! I forgot my purse there and when I called after they had closed they offered to stay and wait until I get there! Very sweet staff ????

Alicia CarmichaelN

Lovely atmosphere, great selection. Cheesecake was amazing, coffee as well. Hot chocolate tasted more like cocoa than chocolate. Scones and pastries were a bit dry. Overall great experience.

P Kaur

Great drinks, adult food and lovely service. Kids food was somewhat disappointing. Way over priced for $0.25 worth of KD boxed mac and cheese! Sad to hear that they served this as most everything else that is made is homemade and delicious! Still will visit when we are in town.

Paul Chiang

Great coffee. fantastic hot chocolate and delicious food. Very friendly staff.

M Dubb (Mdubb)

All I know about this place is that the two regular cups of COFFEE my husband and I bought yesterday were SO WEAK! I mean, what the brew they served us was worse than the coffee they serve in America. We bought beige, ever-so-slightly- coffee-flavoured hot water. Weaker than a weak cup of tea. It seemed to get weaker by the sip. I felt bad about convincing my husband to try this place. I was mislead by the name. I figured they would know a thing or two about how to make a decent cup of coffee. What a huge disappointment. I don't know if the regulars in PEC prefer beige water over real coffee or if the owner of this place is trying to save money on coffee beans (Ah! Perhaps that explains the name of this place!) but come on! Needless to say, we won't waste our money (or our coffee breaks) on this place again.

Jerry Davidson

A clearly evident passion for the business and tasty coffee is completely sabotaged by a grossly inefficient use of the staff causing them to run around like chickens with there heads cut off while a long line of people stand and wonder how long does it take to make coffee.

Gabriella M

Lineups are part of the COVID-19 experience, but the wait for the couple two groups ahead of us was more than 10 minutes (and only one customer group at a time) which almost made us give up. Once inside, the service was great. However, I did not care for the cappuccino. It had an unpleasant burnt taste.

Emilie Lanteigne

It was good, just not great. My cappacino was on the warm side, not hot... Otherwise good.

Robin Rimmer

Nice place! Good coffee. Pastries were delicious.

C J

Excellent coffee! Good treats. Cute place. The person who served us was a bit expeditive, but staff nice overall.

Fernanda de la Sierra

Still social distancing which is good by me. Friendly service. Great decaf mocha frappe. This is now a regular stop for me when in Picton.

JF B.

Best coffee in Picton, and GREAT sandwiches! The staff is awesome and we always feel at home here. I recommend the roasted chicken on ciabatta with red pepper jelly and cream cheese.

Cam Rockwood

Super cute little cafe, HUGE variety of beverages and a great selection of bites. The zucchini coconut muffin is LITERALLY the best muffin my Mom and I have had. We had one with breakfast and went back to buy another 5 to bring home with us. If you're hesitant to try them, give it a shot, you will not regret it. Friendly staff, good service, good food/drink, cozy atmosphere.

M

Great little coffee place in the heart of downtown Picton. Also one of the few places in town where you can get gelato!

Dory van Vorstenbos

The Bean Counter is a great spot if you're looking for a cold beverage or gelato in the heat of summer, or something warm in the fall and winter. Friendly staff, seating inside and outside, plenty of food choices and certainly drinks. I would highly recommend the Cafe to anyone passing through Picton or as a spot to check out when planning a trip in.

Julia Blake

The staff at this place is very nice, down to earth, and they do their jobs very well. The morning selection of baked goods could be a little more varied (a good croissant would be fantastic), but what they do have is very good. I went back every morning we were in Picton.

mircea budaca

A nice Cafe for lunch. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful soup and sandwich here. We would definitely go back again.

david moyal

Delicious treats! Amazing coffee but the star is the young lady behind the counter. Didn't get her name but she wearing a sparkly mask & had the most amazing attitude!????

Ricky “Mayns414” Spanish

Huge disappointment. Extremely slow and terrible service. I popped in to get 2 (extremely overpriced) bagels. It took 23 minutes from entering the line to the time I left which is outrageous. The staff were very inefficient considering it wasn't overly busy. I'm not sure when $12 for two bagels became 'normal' but I was shocked, especially considering the horrible service. Seems poorly managed or perhaps lack of training. Don't waste your time here.

Yuliya Pavlova

I unfortunately visited this establishment today with my daughter. I should mention that I have an invisible disability (PTSD) and so does my daughter (ASD). We were visiting Picton and I had made it a point to go to this cafe for gelato. We were being served by one of the employee's and beginning to ask questions about gelato, when another one of their employee's yelled out across the cafe "You can't have a dog in a cafe, you could get charged." As I turned my certified Service Dog around and told this woman that he is actually a Service Dog, she said "oh, sorry" and walked away. I paid quickly and left. However, I was too distraught to get the gelato we had been looking forward to. We had just left one of the local restaurants where we were treated with kindness and respect. We were not prepared for this kind of disrespectful treatment. If the woman had a question as to whether or not my service dog was registered, quietly talking to me would have been appreciated and more respectful than yelling out to me with such negative and disrespectful statements. Not only did she trigger my anxiety, she also triggered my 9 year old daughter because of her language used. I hope that you choose not to go to this place simply because of this employee and the fact that people can so easily be accosted in their establishment. I hope that, at the very least, this employee is forced to review law regarding disabilities and Service Dogs in Ontario/Canada. It was not okay what she did and it should not be tolerated or accepted.

Joshua Clarke

Great service. Dairy free ice cream, which is delicious.

Dianne Wilson

The biggestttttt hidden gem in Picton!!! Best coffee I ever tasted and love the patio vibe! The staff is super friendly... ???????? Try the hot chocolate and coffee! You will be taken to whole new different world !!!!

L Ha

Excellent coffee, sandwiches and baked goods. Free wifi and comfortable seating. Just lovely.

Mrs. Danforth

Pretty good coffee shop. I like the ice cream there.

Heather Marshall

Really good coffee and latte

Fawaz

Nice little independent place in Picton for lunch (quiche, sandwiches, home-made pies) or a good coffee. The prices aren't incredibly cheap but the food and service are good.

Grace Farias

The wait was long, but worth it... my latte was delectable and I bought a pound of ground dark roast Mexican coffee that is also superb.

Google Account

Mediocre coffee. Staff kind of cold in their demeanor. Spend 25$ on food and we took our own dishes back and they charged my wife 2$ for a coffee refill. Not going back.

P Laframboise

Very nice place with a lovely comfortable feel. Great coffee and cakes selection. Try the Adult Grilled Cheese, it's superb

Chelsey King

I had a caramel macchiato and a breakfast sandwich there this morning. The food and drink was great!

Paws 4 Mommy

Strawberry sorbet was awesome. I didn’t even want strawberry sorbet, I just ceased to function upon seeing the person at the counter. Awesome day, thanks for not making fun of me mistaking green for orange. I’m not colourblind my brain’s just miswired. Have an super incredible day.

Sin Jaz

Huge selection of snacks, treats, teas, and coffees! The staff is always so friendly. Great for grab and go. They also have a few tables and chairs out front to sit if you wish. Thanks Bean Counter!

MacArthur Millen-Jung

Superior coffee, and yummy treats!

Sandra Anderson

good food, fresh, and tasty. Not too crazy about the sound level. voices travel and it is a small room. Cozy and will visit again.

Joanne Linthwaite

Went there last year and the Scones were to DIE for. My son is going there on vacation next week and he MUST get me 8 Scones for me and my daughter in Montreal ????????????

Chris Whiting

Always a good and friendly service. I really like their coffee and their sweet treats.
