One of the best bakery cafes in town. Coffee is fair trade and delicious and the desserts are always top- notch. Personal fave is the Queen Elizabeth square. Great atmosphere for a lunch with friends or studying.

Many options of desserts and breads. Vegan and vegetarian options available. They even make specialty cakes. I enjoy coming in for their fresh muffins and cupcakes, and bringing cookies to treat my office. The bakery is tucked away in the back.

Awesome cake! Service was wonderful. I ordered a custom cake from the bakery section and they did everything so nicely. I requested the words "happy birthday greg" and a drawing of a muskrat if they were able to do it, and they followed it perfectly. And the berries and lemon filling were awesome! Will order from here again!

Black Honey it's truly the most lovely Cafe in the city!! Their desserts are freshly made and never disappoint. My personal favorites are their peanut butter cookies, extra flaky butter tarts (no lard!), Hot chocolate on cool nights and Italian sodas for sunshiny days. Lisa the owner is lovely and as well as managing the cafe she runs the Black Honey Bakery. Anyone visiting Peterborough or moving to town should have Black Honey Cafe and bakery at the top of their to do list .

The food was presented wonderfully, so I was surprised by my lack of an experience. Overpriced and dusty. The cake we had was stale and didn't have much flavor. The lattes were OK. Very cramped. The staff were not friendly whatsoever. Unwelcoming environment. Disappointing.

Really nice London fog (I order with soy and definitely prefer that to almond milk as it has a more neutral taste and foams well). Also love the wacky vegan cake (chocolate ganache on chocolate yaassssss). Cute place! One of my favourite Peterborough haunts. A nice place to study, however: don't expect wifi. One less star for the fact that I've had a few experiences with stand-offish staff.

The food and drinks are always great and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The pricing is slightly higher for specialty beverages than most independent cafes in the downtown core (usually around .25 or .50 cents higher). The cafe is cute and cozy but that does mean it fills up quickly on weekends and holidays. They offer outdoor seating both out front on hunter street and on their back patio, but it seems that if you seat yourself out there you may have to go up to the counter to order.

The most delicious and decadent breakfast ever! Bread pudding french toast, lightly dusted with icing sugar, raspberry coulis and a dollop of whipped cream on the side! Nestled on a charming back patio - a much-needed escape from the busy world. A Sat morning must!

Ordered the Vegan Bowl takeout from their pandemic menu. On the plus side, it was a huge portion. However, the meal consisted of 90 percent potatoes, with two very tiny pieces of falafel, a sprinkling of greenery, and some avocado. But mostly it was potatoes. Lots and lots of potatoes.

Words cannot even describe how I feel about the cake Black Honey made for our wedding. We did a chocolate ganache layer cake with raspberry coulis and a pear-spice with cream cheese frosting. Oh my goodness. GLORIOUS!!! If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, the only question would be which of the two flavours I'd choose.

Black Honey catered the dessert service for our wedding. Our three-tier cake was gorgeous (exactly what we asked for!) and tasted AMAZING! It wasn't overly sweet, which we wanted, and our guests demolished it. We expected to go home with the whole bottom tier and were left with less than a quarter of it (but we're glad our guests liked it, we really are). They also made gluten-free, vegan cupcakes for me (the bride) and our guests with food restrictions. The chocolate espresso cake and vegan buttercream was awesome (I even noticed our non-vegan guests enjoying some)! In addition to the cake and cupcakes, they provided plenty of coffee and tea with all the fixings. We couldn't have asked for better! Big thank you to Lisa and the Black Honey team!

The staff there was extremely nice and helpful, but I spent almost $15 on just two hot drinks and a dessert (includes a $2 tip). Now, this price would've been acceptable if they were excellent, but at best it was sub-par. I would not go back, plus my drink was served Luke warm.

Wonderful, fantastic, so yummy! We initially just wanted a wedding cake, but after meeting Lisa and tasting her delicious baked goods and getting to know her, we opted to also have Black Honey provide the main meal for our 25 wedding guests. We were not disappointed! For the cake, we couldn't pick a single flavour, so we went with three different combinations, one in each tier. We chose lemon & lavender, spiced squash & caramel, and chocolate & espresso. All were equally incredible, and the decorations were perfect too. Andrea arrived at our venue on the day to cook the meal (Moroccan chicken, bbq steak, grilled vegetable pasta plus roasted potatoes and veggies). She's a hoot! I cannot believe how hard she worked, while still being so friendly. She did a tonne of extra unexpected things too, like cleaning up the kitchen, managing all the flatware, running the dishwashers, emptying garbage, dealing with annoying guests in and out of her space lol! She even packed up all the leftovers in Tupperware, and the rental plates and glasses ready for pick up. I would strongly recommend Lisa, Andrea, and the Black Honey team for any events in the Peterborough area, and we'll definitely pop in and see them next time we're there too.

I tryed to order a very detailed cake at last minute. Couldn't do it. They worked with me and boy oh boy did they come through. Though we compromised it was perfect. The icing was the best to ever pass my lips. Everyone loved it and I believe I brought them new customers. Kudos Black Honey!!!????

My favorite cafe in Peterborough! Really cozy with a comfortable atmosphere. I've heard some people complain about the prices for things like cheesecake, but I really can't complain given the amount of time and effort that goes into making their fantastic baked goods. Everything here is delicious.

Great food and coffee just a bit dissapointed it wasnt clear that I was paying 11$ for just the BLT... kinda expecting a side or something. Might need a menu rework to be more clear. Unless your trying to trick people. It's pushes a person's hand to say delicious food but not worth the price. And that can hurt buisness. Just another chefs personal opinion. 11$ can buy the ingredients for 6 bblts. That's almost 100% profit vs product.

I’ve had an amazing experience with Black Honey Bakery! Jessica in the bakery was super kind, informative and accommodating especially since this cake & cupcakes were ordered 3 days prior! Both cakes were very delicious, moist and fresh! The first cake was a vanilla cake with raspberry jam filling and lemon buttercream icing, topped with fresh fruit!! Super impressed! The cupcakes were a decadent chocolate with vanilla buttercream icing and chocolate shavings. Would highly recommend.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly and competent staff that clearly try very hard, and they finally have internet! Big bonus. The only downside is that it's been very crowded lately (assuming it's been due to the internet addition within the last months) and it's often difficult to find anywhere to sit. Recommend that they get some more seating to accomodate their larger customer base. Best coffee in Peterborough, hands down (I've essentially tried everywhere given that I've been in the city for 10 years at this point). All baked goods are handmade in the bakery behind the cafe, so you're not getting industrially-made and frozen desserts like at Hasselton's or Cork and Bean. Highly recommend.

Not only was it beautifully decorated in the shape of beer mug, but it was absolutely delicious! Not overly sweet like most cakes. And to me things even better, the communication and price was great! Will definitely be going back here!

Best experience. Loved thier service. Five stars???? They saved me from embarrasement on my daughters first birthday. I was late to order a coustamized cake and no bakery or grocery store was taking the order for 24hours. They all said we need atleast 48 hours notice. This bakery ws the only one who understood me and agreed to help me and the girl in staff ws so nice and kind.she took my order for a big big cake???? the owner is so sweet she walked all the way from bakery to where my car was parked to drop the cake in my car herself as it was too heavy. Ok. I start saying that I have been trying different carrot cakes and I wanted to start scoring the places based on this traditional but delicious dessert. Atmosphere: ok. A/C is more than well appreciated during the summer. Location: just on the Hunter St. Coffee district. I would like to have parked just close to the place. Coffee: I ordered a café au lait (oh lá lá). Which actually exceeded my expectations 5/5. Carrot cake: The cake itself is too spiced in my opinion. I would like to taste more the balance itself. But as you can see I ate the whole thing. The frosting is so compact and it does not taste like fresh cream cheese; but more like fat. I would like To have a less dense texture and more balanced with the cake. I paid 12ish for the two things... which I do not think it is cheap at all. They have a frequent customer cards which are well appreciated but hard to keep on track unless you come often. The overall is experience is: OK. I would expect more for the price and the fact they have the bakery just in the back. Staff is also just OK. They serve you well but I won’t say they go beyond.

I usually don't write negative reviews but I have to say I went for lunch today and ordered a cup of coffee and the soup of the day. I received my coffee before I sat down and then waited over 30 minutes for a bowl of soup. No one came over to my table to check on me or let me know there was some kind of delay. I had to leave and get back to work without lunch.

I'm not usually one to give negative reviews but my friend and I went here for brunch and the service was almost as bad as the food. We were asked to sit and told the person in the store would come and take our orders. They served over 5 customers and got to us 15 minutes later (mind you we'd arrived first). Between making our drinks and bringing them to us, other customers were served. And a couple that was at the table in front of ours (who had come later) was served their food before us. Then our food orders were taken. We'd been in the cafe for 45 minutes at this point. The food came another half hour later. My burrito was cold, leaky and poorly wrapped. I've never seen less effort put into presentation. My friend's potatoes were half cooked too. I mean, what did we wait 30 minutes for? Won't be going back.

Great service and delicious baked goods! Have to go back to try the coffee. What we tried: Chocolate Oblivion cake - layers of chocolatw cake with rich fudgey chocolate icing layers. Definitely satisfied my craving. Richly chocolatey but not too sweet, which makes it just right. Wish I had a glass of milk with it! Queen Elizabeth - absolute deliciousness! Rich date cake with coconut and caramel. First time trying this and it is worth having again! These are definitely worth trying with a cup of coffee, tea or milk! Will go back to try the cheesecakes, cookies and flourless chocolate cake.
