If you are trying to make food look upscale and pretentious, then it better deliver to that effect. The dish, beets with cheese is something any five year old can whip up easily, is it worth the $10, definitely not. If there was more care put into the dish then maybe, if there were different levels in the dish then I could maybe justify $7, but not for $10. The menus were “seasonal”. All that meant is when they ran out of one ingredient they substituted it for another, same dish – different sauce. I am not impressed with the level of service and quality of food for the price point they were charging. The beef, $34, was not cooked as per order; any chef worth their salt should be able to cook medium-rare to perfection on a slow night. They had the right idea years ago, but have since failed to adapt to the times. Their food is neither complex nor even simply tasty. The ambiance is amateurish at best (same five songs on loop). Not worth the money.

They only offer a brunch menu on Sundays but we shared the pasta Alfredo and the open-faced Smoked Atlantic Salmon sandwich. Prices reasonable and staff friendly. Inside dining room more refined than what outside appearance hints at. Relaxing ambient music.

My hubby and I decided we wanted to go out and try something new in North Bay. We come to town about twice a year and always wanted to try the White Owl Bistro based on the reviews. We ordered the special "surf and turf" pasta that included an entrée and desert as well as the mussels and filet mignon. It was very tasty! I was impressed since I have visited a few restaurants like Churchill's and the Station and this place is my new favourite of NB. Service was excellent and will definitely come back!

This well established restaurant, on the shores of lake Nippising in North Bay, is one of our favourite foodie destinations in the region. We sat on the patio and were surrounded by the great environment and attentive service. The food was good, including the fresh, homemade bread. Our 4 star rating was due to the table not being cleared between courses and the time to have our mains delivered to the table was quite lengthy. Otherwise this iconic, shoreline establishment is a must visit when touring the North Bay area!

Down to earth and classy. Located in a small early mid 20th century house, perhaps even older, repurposed as a restaurant. Upon entry you feel as though you have entered someones home.; Warm and welcoming. Expect to open your wallet a tad. We sat in what would be the backyard facing Lake Nipissing. Pure excellence.

Excellent food in a nostaligic location. 50 + years ago it was the corner store I went to as a child to get a comic book and a popsicle. White Owl was the brand of cigars and the neon sign can still be found on the patio. I had the roasted beet salad, excellent. My husband had the potato crusted pickerel, also excellent. The mashed potatoes were so delicious. Thanks for everything. And yes, one of the only restaurans serving locally sourced, fresh ingredients. Delicious, serving size is good and plated beautifully. One of the only places in North Bay offering locally sourced, fresh produce, meat, and fish. All hand made ingredients. Reasonably sized, unique menu. Prices above average, but there are chains and novelty/tourist restaurants more expensive serving frozen food and oven fries.

**Updated** started to get sick about 2-3 hours after eating here. Was sick the rest of the day and night and some of this morning. The only thing I ate that day was this meal. I would not come here again. Ordered the roast beef croissant sandwich and the crepes for dessert. The sandwich wasn't bad, nothing really special honestly. Fries could be cooked a bit longer for sure. Dessert was great. Server was very nice and quick.

Got room service delivered at our suite and the food was amazing! The menu selection is very well rounded and lots of locally sourced items. The lamp pot pie was succulent and so flavorful! White wine mussels and charcuterie board hit the spot! The young lad who brought our order was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Would 100% recommend and would certainly eat here again. I cannot say enough good things about the food and service here. My family booked the place for a spot for us to eat and rest after a funeral of a dear relative who passed quickly and suddenly. They were amazing. We had kids, we had elderly, I felt like we were treated with such respect, they social distanced the best they could. I’m sure it was a difficult task for the servers but they stayed so professional and warm. Just a huge thanks of gratitude for offering us such a beautiful meal and wonderful warm service.

Cosy resturant with lots of options; stopped by for lunch and got the farmer's board and salmon open-faced sandwich with butternut squash soup. They have a patio in the back but it was rainning. The server said people can go all the way to the lake when waiting for food. Staff are attentive and very kind. Very happy customer, will return.

What makes this quaint little restaurant unique is that they make all the food from scratch and they use LOCAL ingredients! Don't go if you are looking for a low cost quick fix meal, DO go if you are looking for a nice dining experience. Yes, it is somewhat pricey (for North Bay) but when you consider that you are supporting local suppliers (like the pickerel and maple syrup for example) it is well worth it and they don't disappoint with the presentation and flavour. The food is DELICIOUS! Staff: friendly and attentive. Great place for an intimate couples date night ;)

Very nice selection on the menu. Prices are fair and quality very high. I had the Farmer's Board altered by removing the duck as I am a non meat eater. Chef was very accommodating in meeting my needs. The Gaspacho was excellent with a perfect amount of olive oil glistening on the surface. The view of Lake Nipissing only 50 metres away is a nice addition to dining on the patio!

Food wasn't as great as I thought it was suppose to be more mashed potato as a filler. Salad was left out too long it was mainly the white parts of lettuce for Caesar Salad. Was bitter. Didn't have 3 items we requested off the menu. Small portions for what I was expecting. Have eaten in much better places and got more for my money.

Great spot for lunch or dinner. We just walked in late afternoon for lunch and the service was great! Good food as well, recommend the Rainbow Trout! If you get a table in the back you can see Lake Nipissing. Tip: Take a stroll after your lunch/dinner to see the Lake up close. Just take a left when you exit the restaurant and keep going into the little peninsula. There is also a playground, good for families!

Unfortunately our experience at the White Owl was not what we have experienced in the past. My husband ordered the special, a pickeral wrap that was mostly wrap and cole slaw...and little fish. My vegetable soup( and ceasar) was bland and my chickpea burger was overwhelming with spices. The server was very friendly and I'm hoping that this was just an off day, as we have always enjoyed our meals at the White Owl.

Wow! This is not your “local patio”! Truly excellent food and unbelievable service. We sat out back on the lake and had the beet salad (brilliant!) and the escargot (how do you go wrong with oil and cheese?:-) the the potato encrusted pickerel (two thumbs way up!) The only minor defect was the outside washrooms need an upgrade... But the service was impeccable. They rushed out meal (we were running late for a show) and split an entree beautifully. Well done! Highly recommended.

If you are looking for a rare dining experience this is the place for you. Intriguing drink menu including Mai-Tai and Mimosa. Excellent service (Thank you Cally) and food prepared to perfection. I had the lamb and my better half ordered the pork. Variety of dessert selections including my favourite Creme Brulee. You won't be sorry if you dine here.

I was there with a friend from out of town, for the first time. We sat at the patio, just amazing view of the lake. The we both had the steak it was done to perfection. They even make their own. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about their food. I will differently return. If I could make any suggestion it would be that they might give the restaurant some very much needed curb appeal.

My wife and I were in North Bay with our 8 year old grandson. I did a search for restaurants in the area that offer gluten free options for our Grandson. The White Owl came up that they have gluten free options on their menu. The waitress offered that the chef could do a hamburger from their lunch menu and replace the bum with gluten free bread. The hamburger looked liked a burnt hockey puck. Our grandson took two bits and he left most of it for me. It tasted burnt. My wife liked her meal, but I was a little disappointed with my northern perch offering, considering the price. I just ask that the restaurant would be more up front what they offer as gluten free options.

Atmosphere is appropriate for a family dinner or a romantic dinner for two. Highly recommend you visit here, I guarantee you'll become a repeat customer!

Such a lovely friendly lady serving. .. we were there very shortly b4 close with a thirst on ... got wine and baked camembert ... fantastic. No huffiness due to time so close to closing like you do in chains nowadays. High class home made food in a very classy setting. Don't let the outside of the building fool you. I think the 1 and 2 star raters from the past have personal vandettas or something...either way they are obviously paying more attention to detail now Sunset Inn next door fantastic too.

We were traveling back to the United States from a trip to Maine, we stayed in North Bay. We were looking for a place to eat, and the White Owl popped up in our search. We drove out to the bistro and parked in front. The building is small and has a graffiti like front. There is a big modern looking restaurant across the street. We said, well let’s take a look. Inside is fantastic!! The service was great, very friendly, and the food was outstanding. If we are ever in the area again, we will be eating there again.

Pleasantly surprised !! The outside looks like a small house but once inside, it was a cozy and intimate setting. Came here based on reviews and did not disappoint. The hostess was friendly and accommodating with our table request. Rita, our waitress, was so so kind and friendly. She also knew answers to questions we had about the menu and ingredients. We ordered the Farmers Board, Strip Steak and the Special Table d’hôte baked Chicken stuffed with Camembert, Mushroom and spinach. The accompanying veggies and potatoes were local produce and taste better than the chains. Cheesecake was delicious. The food presentation was excellent. Would come here again but unfortunately live 5hrs away. Was only passing through and glad wife picked this restaurant.

I found this place by googling “best place to eat in North bay” I don’t like eating at franchise eateries and love supporting local and need to have a new experience each time I go out to eat. This place was “AMAZING” great vegan option (not that I’m vegan) locally sourced food and meat. Service was AmAZING... I barely ever go to North bay but if and when I do again this is the place as e I’m going to eat time!! Thank You for a great experience!

As always the food and service is amazing. Highly recommended, the Pomedor with the hollandaise sauce and the home fries. Absolutely great. And they know how to make a drink. Overall, the seating is great, we got caught in the rain a bit, but we simply asked for an umbrella before the downpour and we were fine. Even with Covid service is amazing and their precautions are thought out. Great job!

One of my two fave places to eat in North Bay. If you want a little nostalgia and class with your meal, this is the place to be. The servers are wonderful, the food outstanding and the prices very affordable. Oh, and I highly recommend the creme brulee. Bar none the best I have tried to date. Cheers

COMPLIMENTS to the chef, this was 5 star delicious meal! I ordered the Atlantic Cod and it came with roasted potatoes and veggies with this lovely white wine sauce to die for! My hubby got the sun dried tomatoe roasted chicken pasta with goat cheese, he was in heaven! Everything was amazing even the crepe dessert!!! thank you! We are from Toronto and will for sure be visiting again!
