My friend said it perfectly, "I could have sponsored a child with that money!" If you must go, the bacon wrapped scallops we're good. In general the food needs improvement.
(Translated) It was very good with a nice atmosphere (Original) C'etais tres bon avec une belle ambiance
Great food super staff
Good seafood & service
We came in here just before closing. Felt bad as they probably had to stay late for us but we had amazing service and food despite that. Was extremely impressed. Great prices. 7 of us ate all we could for $200.00
While the service was slightly slow the night we were there it's excusable considering how pleasant our server was. Last time I ate here it was during Saint John's great Chop Chop week. Their plate was creative and well executed. Some places aim too high and fail but the blackened cod and ice cream churros were perfect. Given some other experiences I've had at boardwalk restaurants lately I think this may be the go to now.
Really good calamari! Some of the best seafood around
Amazing food and service
The seafood bucket is amazing and the atmosphere is great.
Service was horribly SLOW on a Friday evening it's unacceptable. Waited for 10 minutes to be acknowledged and seated... another 10 for a drink. Food was good but the lack of servers would keep me from coming back. Also the restaurant is located in a mall with a parkade and does not offer any parking validation.
I ate here on a business trip very good seafood pasta and wonderful bartender Joe!
Great food, the service polite and quick, and the live music was awesome!
Oyster Rockefeller was ok but pricey at $20. Very few people in restaurant and I waited an hour waiting for oysters and fish tacos. Would recommend trying others seafood restaurants before this one. Seems more like a tourist trap...although the fish tacos were tasty and reasonably priced.
Lobster Roll was amazing!!
Horrible service waiter was a duche to everyone served cold clam chowder fish with no tartar sauce just down right disappointing ???? it was supposed to be great at one point not anymore
ordered the seafood bucket which was great the stuffed mushrooms also great chicken sandwich was a bit over cooked scallops were way over cooked lobster roll was a bit too much bun but the filling was delish
Food was great, Service was great
Strange smell inside restaurant. Food is nothing special... We eat lobster, and it was overcooked... Wine was great... Pricely for what we have, prepare to leave 100 CAD per person for dinner... Service was poor...
Tasty and well priced lunch options. Love that they prepare certain items table side. Wonderful service!
Joe and Johnny were outstanding. Honestly had a wonderful conversation and sampling of their amazing product. Can't wait to come back. Great job gentlemen, above and beyond
Great place for drinks. Nice view of the live public music stage from the patio. Food was quite good, though pricey. The pot pie is recommended. They are quick to take the order but their kitchen is very slow to process that order.
Whenever in St. John, I always stop at Grannan's and have a meal and then visit downstairs with Joe. Always have a great meal and great talks with Joe and the staff. Old Fashion hospitality! Recommend very highly.
The food was okay. Haddock was good. Lobster roll was not what it should be in this area. The service was absolutely exceptional. Everyone was amazing. Biggest drawbacks were being close to the cruise ship dock and the public outdoor stage (you don't have any say if you don't like the performance). Net positive overall, but could be better.
Alow waitress and overpriced food...
High quality delicious meals, fresh Atlantic Lobster from their own love lobster tank, house sauces and amazing staff make this location a go to for date nights and special occasions! Friendly staff and great service!
Flat beer, broken glass. Waiter was 10/10.
Quality of food does not match the price. I was disappointed with my last meal here. Staff and service was friendly.
Overrated and overpriced. Ordered Grannans Fish and Chips. Haddock was overcooked and the Fries were lukewarm. Our appetizer arrived half way through the meal. Service was just Ok. The best part of the meal was the Cheesecake.
Great food and great service by the lower level bar staff. The gentleman took the time to ensure my visit and first time experience with this restaurant was perfect. Definetly returning again.
Wouldn't go again. Stale food. No turnover
Great place to have a really good meal. It could be a bit pricier than most places but the food and atmosphere are exceptional.
We loved our food. I had haddock and blueberry salad (I absolutely loved the blueberry salad). My husband had the lobster roll and mashed potatoes and he really enjoyed those too.
Awesome see food and great service
The restaurant is divided into a variety of spaces, including a cozy upstairs room and a downstairs patio.
Food was awsome and service was great and staff was friendly would definitely recommend this for a night out
Really quite disappointing. Visiting New Brunswick, we assumed we could choose a high-end seafood restaurant and have a memorable night and a good meal, but sadly, no. First off, the place was understaffed and there was a long wait for ordering and for food, plus a waitress mostly busy elsewhere. I ordered the lime and honey salmon. It was overcooked and dry and therefore pretty tasteless. Vegetables and rice were ok. My wife ordered mussels and scallops. Three little scallops which were overcooked and rubbery. Mussels were fine, but boring with no sauce. Based on the meal we had no desire to try a dessert. I'm no chef, but my wife's a good cook and we just got the impression the cook here doesn't know how to prepare seafood. Good selections of beers. We spent $100 and wish we'd gone elsewhere.
Fine dinning
Terrible. Long wait for order to be taken. Extra long wait for food. Butter was microwaved 3 times (not drawn) for lobster and was still thick. Definitely not worth the price. BIG MISTSKE.
I'm not sure why the poor reviews. We had the pita nachos which were very good. Different but good. I had the Steak sandwich and it was amazing! My son had the lobster melt and he was in heaven. He said it was better then the one he had in Portland Maine two days ago. Must try this place. We sat on the patio and listened to music so I have no idea what the inside is like.
Service cannot consider as good at all. Food is not good but expensive. The fresh oysters are 6 for $18 , soooooo small, just can't believe it. Saint John is the oyster capital. I ordered Norwegian Cod fish, so disappointed, the fish has no taste at all, it cost $30, end up I can only eat half of it with that kind of taste. My husband ordered jumbo scallops, $40, and only three piece of Looney size of scallops. If it taste good then is better. He has to admit that he felt like a biggest sucker. When we asked for the bill, she gave us a wrong one, which was at least $30 more. It was not busy at all, only five tables of customers, how can you mixed it up. If you asked me, not recommended at all, unless you want to be a sucker too.
The seafood bucket and lobster filled mushrooms were really great! Blueberry cheesecake was also really good. Service is excellent!
The service was 'Ok'. I had to ask for a glass of water at the end of my diner...wich is for me a big fail from the waitress. I've tried the Surf&Turf wich is the most expensive thing on the menu. What a surprise when my steak arrive over cook and the 'surf' was two small shrimps and a small Scallop...honestly the plate was way over price for the size. The waitress was kind enough to bring extra shrimps and charge only half of my bottle of wine(thanks for that!) But honestly, first and last time. Not worth trying at all! This is a honest review. No more no less.
Excellent service and excellent food
The stuffed mushrooms are to die for. However, it went downhill after that. We all had separate meals and we all had legitimate complaints. The server asked us how we liked our meals and we told her. The clams were just tiny overcooked strips. The expensive raspberry mint vodka drink was terrible. The cole slaw had no dressing, bleh. The fish was overcooked. The lobster roll was full of finely chopped leftovers. The waitress was lovely and attentive. One great thing was even though it sounded like we were looking for a free meal, that was the furthest from our minds. However, she did give us a 50% discount. The need to hire a better cook. Was so looking forward to a great meal. Oh well. Maybe next year.
Steak was cold and I still can't believe it.
Do yourself a big favour, and stop at this restaurant if you haven't already. A saint John uptown favourite. The food is always very tasty, especially the fish tacos! The atmosphere of the restaurant is very inviting, and cozy. Get yourself a window seat, and you'll even have a nice view to go along with a hearty meal. That tastes like home.
Great food and good booze!! Nice view from top floor..a bit pricey but worth it..
Slamming food and particularly good music that night
Good location, bUT that's it... Food is bad and overpriced and Service is bad
16$ for 6 shrimp. Over cooked fish(it was rubber), $16 for two haddock cakes(no side). What a reasonable price... For a landlocked province like New Brunswick, that doesn't have an ocean on it's doorstep. Oh... Wait... It does! Used to love this place. I don't know what's going on in the kitchen, but as a fellow chef let me say this "fire your head chef!"
Except parking everything else was a great experience. The variety of seafood available was amazing. It was a great meal experience to sit at the patio while the band was playing. Place was extremely busy but food arrived in time. Service was of high quality so were the prices. Considering the location prices is competitive.
The restaurant is in a beautiful location and has a stellar patio. Great spot for an afternoon pint overlooking the harbour. If you're looking for drinks to take half an hour to arrive, and food to show up an hour after you order it, cold, and somehow overcooked, this is your jam.
Food was really good.
They LIE to their customers. On the menu there is an item called the "Granny Burger," which is described as a burger with cheese, bacon, an onion ring, and barbecue sauce. I ordered the burger, and all I got is a patty and cheese on it, with a side of fries. So the restaurant literally LIED on its own menu. If they didn't have enough ingredients to make the burger as it's described on the menu, they should have just said so and I would have ordered something else. But if that is not the case, they need to update their menu immediately. Or, they need to change their name from "Grannan's Seafood and Grill" to just "Grannan's Seafood," if they don't know how to make burgers at all. This restaurant is better at cooking up schemes than food. Everything is overpriced. The $37.00 steak was like cardboard, hard to chew. At least it was cooked right. But there is no excuse for lying to your customers. So I'm giving you one star. Cold deception = cold reception.
Don't go there. We just ordered lunch menus and had to wait an hour for our food (while it wasn't even busy) and you saw they didn't do much effort in it. The lunch menu was an appetizer for a child, the grilled chicken a tasteless cardboard and the vegetables were tasteless. 1 star for the location and the friendly service tough
We had the Granny Burger is was very tastey
Slowest service in the world and the food wasn’t all that!
Great food and awesome atmosphere. One of my favorite places to go when I visit Saint John.
Had the wings for a starter they were delicious! My meal was the burger and fries hands down the most amazing fries I have ever eaten I prefer a thick cut fry and these did not disappoint! The seasoning on the fries was incredible. The burger was the best restaurant burger I have ever had. I was a little worried because I had never had a burger prepared this way baseball shaped patty but this ended up being perfectly cooked still pink in the middle so juicy and delicious. Would definitely return for the burger and fries alone
Great food also amazing service
Lovely space, good service. Food was delicious but kind of pricey.
Nice place To eat and drink but toilets are dirty .i had à great time .
Worst service ever! Crabe taste nothing. No more IPA beer. Steak without Steak Knife. Stuff Potatoe cold. Worst service ever. Tourist trap! To expensive for what I eat.
Really hospitable
Fantastic food and service!
Great food, very attentive service. Nice job Ryan.
I really really enjoyed my dining experience here. The sever was professional, the oysters were the best thay I have ever had, the lobster was cooked perfectly. Overall, i have nothing to complain about this place. I love it!
Service was slow and food was overcooked. Location is good.
(Translated) I saw a mouse passed and the waitress explained to me that it is normal and that they have a certificate of conformity and that it is accepted like that .... bullshit! Too expensive ordinary food (Original) J'ai vu une souris passé et la serveuse m'a expliqué que c'est normal et que ils ont un certificat de conformité et que c'est accepté comme ça .... bullshit! Trop chère bouffe ordinaire
Very fresh good
Overpriced, slow service...food was okay... nothing spectacular
Fantastic lobster. We went for the lazy lobster and it was a treat. Nice service as well.
very nice. the mussels were amazing p.e.i. and fresh with excellent saute'd tomato, onion, garlic, oil combo to finish these. loved being outside on the wharf.
Had the fish and chips and it was very good, the food was served quickly and staff were friendly.
I would tear off it even if I become a winner of gift coupon of this restaurant at a Sea Dogs hockey game because I don't want to go there neither my friends . The vegetables withered and the fries were cold and the portion was as small as a kids menu, which made me to doubt that the food might be reused. On top of that, the manager (or owner) in his 60s was brutal as well as the young waitress didn't know what she was doing even though she was kind. Tourists, be aware that locals don't go this place twice. (I talked with some of my friends living there long time about this restaurant) You will be ripped off with poor food at much higher price with very small portion. Walk uphill just 50 meters and you will find lots of restaurants and bars at better price with reasonable portion. If you don't want to talk, just stay away from this one. What I felt when coming out after paying fifty something dollars for quick but long-waiting lunch for two people was hunger and rage. My impression after my first and last visit was that this place had been run by dishonest beings, which is shame.
I loved the fish and chips here. The breading was light and seasoned. So easy to walk indoors from the Delta hotel to here, which was a bonus in the winter time.
We have been here every year for the last five years. We make it a destination every trip out east to visit the family. We're never disappointed. The seafood bucket is insane and the tacos unreal. You also must try the chowder!
Came down to Saint John this morning and stopped by Grannan's and had an amazing lunch with wicked staff , pricing and food was amazing, I'd go there again in a heartbeat. We then looked for a place that evening to get supper and was recommended by sister owner to go to Churchill's Pub where we thought we were in for another amazing meal but it ended up being over priced for small portions and unflavorable and the staff we had was not sociable. Definitely will never eat at Churchill's Pub again. Waste of money.
Disappointed to find imitation crab in my "Lobster Roll." Its typically best practice to not advertise what you don't have. Food was slow in a restaurant that was virtually empty. Great location though!
Fresh delicious food, melting in your mouth. I felt transformed by the flavours. Also sea bucket is a great fun.
Service was excellent food was excellent
Great buck a shuck on the wknds
The seafood bucket is an experience and a great patio. It was great, they give you a bunch of tools and napkins and then cover the table in seafood. It took the two of us an hour to finish it off. It will be cold by the end likely but it's a full meal. The patio is great but come prepared, once the sun goes down it will get cold
Well the waiter was very nice and friendly however please do not put my company right next to the kitchen door when the place is not busy... Please think of the guest! I was there with my company from Sweden, Colombia and India the order was mixed up missed seafood and over cooked steak not a good impression sorry would of liked a better experience
Overpriced and the food was ok. The wait is kind of long and I ordered fish tacos. The fish is dry and blend. The waiter is friendly and nice tho. Understaffed for sure.
Great good, great service, great patio! Craft beer selection could be better in comparison to the neighbouring restaurants but otherwise no flaws to report!
Went to dinner at Grannan's on Friday, July 30. Fantastic! Server David was super, food was delicious, all was outstanding. I have not been here is years as we always took friends and family to another up town seafood restaurant but not anymore! We will be back real soon!!
Really enjoyed, good food, good staff, the view from the deck into the harbor was great. Pricing seemed geared to tourists...ie a bit high. The seafood bucket was really good and good fun.
Great food, great portions and great staff! Service has always been timely, the food has always been good and have always had the right portions no matter the time of day. Also love their lunch specials!
We loved the lunch specials,so many choices. The service was great and the sever was very nice.
Bucket of seafood is amazing
Not impressed with the quality of the food, I had the seafood bucket...everything was cold and still half frozen....was not fresh by any means. ....my friend had bacon wrapped scallops....for $20 one would expect to get more than 6 measly little scallops....service was good....won't be returning ...way over priced
Very good place. Only trouble is that I am allergic to seafood and could only order chicken products
3 staff walked by our family before someone acknowledged us at the door. Server was pleasant however food is overpriced and and service under delivered for what you pay.
Lazy lobester, best lobster ever. Ask for the garlic butter.

Ok
Expensive (tourist area) but very good food and service!
I have never rated a restaurant before but I feel that when you know better it gives you the opportunity to do better. I was so disappointed in my experience on February 25, 2018. I ordered the lobster roll and it was clearly frozen minced lobster, I have had many lobster rolls living on the Bay of Fundy for 40 years. In the summer the cruise ships dock in Saint John just minutes from Grannan’s Seafood and if I was a tourist I would think a restaurant with seafood in their name on the Bay of Fundy should have a high quality lobster roll. I grew up loving Granans and I am sad to say I would not recommend this restaurant. I was also disappointed to see the menu lacking clams that were served there for years. I will say the oysters Rockefeller were excellent. Our server was friendly so service was not an issue.
Had the Chop Chop lunch. It was great!
the service was very slow and poor. it took forever for the appetizers to come and when they did the mussels were very gooey and raw. my strawberry daiquiri was complete juice and was served in a plastic alpine cup. they offered a glass of water and did not return with it. the lobster dinner was served with the wrong sides for both meals that were chosen. the lobster was very small and tough definitely over cooked. i cut my finger trying to open the claw, because they forgot to give the shell cracker with our meal and on-top of that the butter was next to cold. the only thing i enjoyed on the plate was the veggies and the incorrect side they mistakenly gave me. it is extremely over priced would not recommend at all.
Wonderful meal, teriffic staff and a delightful ambiance. A must eat here establishment.
yum
Not really a fan. Has a really dark and dingy feel to it and the gravy was awful.
Food here is the best in Saint John.
Great food quality but pricy!
Service was good food was good but my husband had a cylinder get knocked over on his foot his toe is black will loose nail for sure only thing they should have done was hive some compensation which they didnt offer at all ????

Nice place
Wonderful lobster roll on a gluten free roll with a delicious blueberry salad. A perfect meal for a traveling person with celiac disease!
Very friendly staff and reasonable price. Outdoor available in summer and enjoyable performance, music, dance etc. of Boardwalk stage
The vegetables and lobster were a bit over cooked. This is a nice strip of restaurants but very overpriced for the quality you get
Intimate spot in the Market Square overlooking the waterfront. Fish & chips were not as expected but would look forward to trying some of the fresher seafood on future trips. Service was great.
Very friendly and efficient wait service, and excellent food. The atmosphere and ambience are always wonderful. An easy recommendation to anyone who likes good food and good beer.
Close to the waterfront Service was late
Just the biggest mistake... we we're going make a quick stop to eat on our way to saint Andrew... but let our self tempted with the nice atmosphere in the Market square. Decided on the first place that had a tempting kids menu for my daughter. Too bad, they have this beautiful coloring menu for kids... but no crayons to color it. Although we asked for crayons, we never got them. Meals arrive... no sauce with my daughter's chicken fingers... had to ask for it, sprite, which was extra to kids menu tasted like water. My meal was good... but $21 for what would be half the size of a lobster roll in any fisherman town... it came with fries... I asked the waitress if there were other sides available... she said garden salad, rice, mash potatoes... or could also go for ceasar salad or blueberry salad for an extra. I opted for a garden salad which turned out to be the smallest salad I've ever seen with French dressing. Got the bill and was charged $2.75 for about 10 grams of green... When I asked about the extra charge, she said she forgot to mention it. No problem... I saved back on tip. I usually always check the reviews and ratings before going to a restaurant and am terribly upset at myself for not doing so this time. Hope you will be smarter than me...
Not impressed at all! We specially went for mussels as none of the other restaurants had mussels due to the long weekend. Tje service was poor. It seemed like the server was happy that we didn't order anything more than mussels and drinks. Just from the picture of drinks you can see how unappealing it was. The beer glass is not even chilled. And she didn't ask if a refill was needed until we were done eating. Mussels were okay, wine was good. To top our disappointing experience (maybe our expectations were too high after having dinner at a restaurant next to this one), our neighbours were talking at the top of their voices, don't know why. The server will not bring the machine to the table, you have to go inside and pay. This is the first time I am giving such a poor review to a restaurant as I am pretty easy to please. I lost my appetite!
Food was good, prices were good, waiter was attentive, our only complaint was we waited over 1 hour to get our meal to the table and it was the lunch special, we were not pleased with the timing of things!
Food was amazing. The patio was great with the live music. Really enjoyed myself!
Great service on 07/26/2021 thanks to Luke. Out of oysters on this night. Unacceptable for a place with “oyster bar” on their signage. Food was otherwise good, not great. Escargot was good but too smothered in cheese. Seared bacon wrapped scallops were tasty in garlic butter. Service by Madelyn on 07/27/2021 was very different. She was rushing us to order and made us feel as though our patronage wasn’t wanted. She really ruined the experience. Salmon was good, but as I said, the evening was ruined by the server. The three stars is for 07/26/21. Madelyn gets no stars. Will not return.
(Translated) Very good to have a beer in front of the market place scene (Original) Tres bien pour prendre une biere devant la scene du market place
Great service, great food. The value is incredible compared to other restaurants in the area.
Perfect
Great food
Lobster melt was great! Convenient location, friendly staff, great music, not much to complain about! Would've liked to have some sort of dip with the fries.
Rating 1 star for the simple reason that we didn't get service. After waiting in front of a "Please wait to be seated" sign for 10 minutes without even seeing a server we left. It was like there was no one working there. I don't mind if it takes some time to be seated, but I appreciate a greeting and heads up that it may take a while.
Awesome place to eat and have some beers.
Mixed review for this place. We went for dinner and drinks on Monday July 26/21. Had a great time. Our server Luke (?) was fantastic. Although, it was a bit disappointing that an Oyster bar was out of oysters. We got there at about 4:30pm. Didn’t plan on eating right away, Luke (?) was fine with that, provided excellent service and when we did order food he was great with suggestions. At the end of the meal we were talking about what we would be doing the next day and he suggested we go to St Andrews which we did and loved it. Because of this experience we went back for drinks before dinner the next night about 6:15(Tuesday July 27). This time we were served by Madelyn, what a difference, we again said we wanted a couple of drinks before deciding what to eat. She brought our first drink and immediately asked about ordering food. We reiterated we wanted to wait, she then came back and said the kitchen was busy and we should order soon. Once we had an appetizer she came back to ask if we would be ordering anything else, we did order mains and as soon as we were done she came by and asked if she could bring the bill, didn’t ask if we wanted a coffee or dessert, by then we were just plain annoyed and said fine. The whole time it felt like she just wanted to rush us out of there. If this was my first time there I would not have gone back.
Service was good, beer was good. Food was overpriced. I got the clam chowder bowl and there was a distinct lack of clams. It was basically a bowl of white sauce with a few pieces of peas and carrots, really disappointing as it was $15. I live near a Legal Seafood and love their clam chowder, Grannan's pales in comparison. They also need to reboot their wifi router as it wasn't distributing addresses properly.
there for a year end banquet the steak veg potatoe were divine as was the tomato basil soup and the mouse for dessert
So me and my girl friend head to the board walk to go eat and we pick Grannan's, we walked in the the restaurant and they seated us outside at a table. Our waitress a blond curly haired girl brought us a menu and asked what we wanted for drinks, my girlfriend ordered at glass of wine and I got a beer while we waited to order our food. We sat there and we finished our drinks wondering when the waitress was going to come take our order. Then a group of 4 people where seated right beside us sane girl seated them and brought them drinks . Then she comes back and takes there orders completely forgetting us as we where sitting there with empty drinks and no order taken. So we decided to leave we go back into the restaurant to pay for the drink we had. I was standing there by the cash no one even acknowledged us as we wanted to pay so we could go and eat because we were hungry!!! Then our waitress comes back into the restaurant and asks if she can help us . I said yes I would like to pay for the two drinks we had and this is the funny part she asked me who my waitress was lol I looked at her and said really !!! You are lol. So won't be going back poorest service ever in my opinion we left and went over to Gahan's and had the best service and the food was out of this world good and our waitress didn't forget she served us and took our order as well !!!!
The dish was very tasty, but it was not hot and the cod was overcooked. I have never had tough cod before. Our waiter was very pleasant and helpful. We do not plan to eat here again!
I never get tired of dining at Grannan's. Today was as good as any other time. It's always a pleasure to be served great and creative food by professional staff. You have been consistent for the last three plus decades .....keep up the good work.
We've been going there for the past 17 years and the food has always been good
Zero stars. Slowest service ever! Took over 1/2 hour to get our appetizer. Took another 1/2 hour get our mains. When we got our mains, it was cold! Not even a sincere apology when we spoke up about the slow service. Never again.
Rubbery robbery! Wait was rediculous during slow time. Won’t b back!
Small portions over priced and very slow service and washrooms were disgusting
Sorry but this was horrible. We waited an entire hour just to get a beer then forever for food. Then it arrived ice cold. I will not be back
Food was ok. Not a lot of flavor to anything our party ordered, with the exception of the blueberry salad. Ok food, can be overlooked, if it was not for the extremely long wait and high prices. I don't mind paying and waiting for good food, but it took over an hour and a half after we are seated to get our meals, and one of the plates was wrong. I don't like leaving a bad review, but they missed every opportunity to made a bad situation better. A simple sorry for the wait, can a get your an appetizer on the house, or a round of drinks, or basically any gesture that actually seemed like you cared about our experience at your restaurant.
(Translated) Good seafood restaurant. The place is in a lively area. (Original) Bon restaurant de fruits de mer. La place est dans un quartier animé.
Early dinner of the awesome Surfs Up. Amazing meal and great staff. Probably one of our top dinners of all time.
(Translated) Prices are high, but the food is really good. Probably the best chicken fingers I've eaten in my life. Very large selection of local micro beer. For my part, the premises were very clean and respectable. (Original) Prix élever effectivement, mais la bouffe est vraiment de qualité. Probablement les meilleurs doigts de poulets que j'ai mangé de ma vie. Très grand choix de bière de micro local. Pour ma part, les lieux étaient très propres et respectable.
Food was just okay. The lobster pasta had the smallest amount of lobster. The taste was good but nothing to call home about. The service was friendly and attentive which was nice. It's also quite a pricey joint too. It's not very good bang for your buck but it's conveniently located in downtown Saint John.
And everybody was so concerned about the restaurants? Had dinner here. Think they are catching up on what hey missed out on. Slow service... expensive.... and too we had a table at the back of the dinning... a little bit like being in a closet. Wow... I'm going back to takeout.
Nice meals. Good atmosphere.
Great :)
Whilst the food was decent (but a tad overpriced), we were extremely disappointed by the overall service. We were not greeted properly (« Go upstairs » as a greeting), and our waitress made us wait 20 minutes before taking our order and bringing us drinks. After ordering, the wait time was easily 45-60 minutes with no sign of our waitress until the food actually arrived. The diners that had been seated just a few minutes before us had already been served and had time to enjoy their meal, pay, and leave, before we had actually received our food! Once we received our food, our waitress never came to check on us and kept us waiting a good 30 minutes after we had finished our meal to bill the whole thing. Overall, the food is okay but the service leaves to be desired. We will not be coming back anytime soon. There are other great seafood restaurants in Saint John…Yelp them!
Really nice place to have a delicious dinner. Very good service
Staff was friendly and food was awesome
Seafood chowder was grey and watery. Couldn't eat it.
Out of all the places to eat we had to choose this one. We both got the granny burger. After waiting an hour our food arrives missing half of what comes on the burger I flag down out waitress. Running out of time i told here it was messed up but I didn't need it fixed but wanted the bill corrected sense they f****d up two $17 bugers. But in return was brought a bowl of onion rings. LIKE REALLY?
Very disappointing meal. We chose this restaurant because of its location and because we wanted a good seafood dinner. Had the blueberry salad, the seafood platter, and the lobster roll. The salad had wilted lettuce and was tasteless, the $65 platter had rubbery small portions of seafood that seemed to have been reheated (unsuccessfully) in a microwave, and the lobster roll was dry and stale. Nice location and the server was ok (but did not come back to check on the meal), but save your money and don't eat this bad food.
Great apps and service from Madeline but the worst fish tacos and the worst fish&chips
Amazing
good NB oysters, Blue Pearl's. awesome mussels, and seafood chowder. very good service, and it has a great view!
Wife ordered the seared scallops. 3 scallops for $39.00 is a little much. I ordered a steak rare and got it half medium rare and half medium/well. Not sure how they managed that one.
Just had the curried chicken penne pasta which was great. Big portions for all the meals in our group. Sticker shock when we got our bills for drinks as the prices weren't in the menu. Paid $11.50 for a raspberry lemonade which I might not have chosen if I had known. Overall, though, we all enjoyed our meals and there were other things on the menu I'd like to try.
nice place, they have restaurant upstairs and bar downstairs. For restaurant, reservation is required. It is a pretty big place and it was very busy on Sat night when I was there. It took too long for the food to come. Otherwise, the food was tasty, decor is nice and location is right on the water. Service was nothing special, but again, probably they were too busy on that night.
Disgusting embarrassment to seafood, and food in general. Worst restaurant meal I’ve had in years. Seafood chowder: Arrived with a skin on it and no spoon. Fish and shrimp was incredibly tough and chewy, chowder thin and tasteless. Small portion for $18, which turned out to be the only positive since I was nauseous with a knot my stomach for hours after. Fried clams: Texture suggested frozen and microwaved. Fries were somehow wet. Hair on plate Service: Careless - never came to refresh drinks during 35 minute wait. Brought tartar sauce for clams to sit for 20 minutes before food came. Never asked how food was, a telling sign. Would be bad at any price but charging $18-20 for this is particularly bad.
Great experience, we had the lobster club and the seafood bucket and oysters with one beer for about 75$, service was alright
Food was good. Service was not. Waitress did not bring water to the table nor did she offer it . We dropped a dinner fork on the floor and when we asked for another we were told to use the salad fork. The restaurant was not overly crowded at the time so cutlery must be in short supply . Expecting an "eating out" experience we were disappointed in the service.
Expensive, mediocre food. Terrible service.
We found that the food was high quality, but had to wait nearly 40 minutes to be served. For the price of a dinner at Grannan's, we expected more enthusiastic customer service and a more upscale ambiance. Not great value for your dollar.
(Translated) I never recommend this restaurant starting with very roomy toilets with bad smell also expensive dishes for the poor quality of products and very little quantity. I will never suggest this Resto very dirty washroom and small quantities and bad quality (Original) Je ne conseil jamais ce restaurant commençant par les toilettes très salles avec mauvaise odeur aussi les plats cher pour la qualité médiocre des produits et quantité très peu. I will never suggest this Resto very dirty washroom and small quantities and bad quality
The only reason i voted 2 stars is because we had a fantastic waiter, the food is o.k but overpriced ...2 small lobster for 90$ ..When they are fishing it from about 50km from there..ridiculous. in other restaurants in nb you will have 2 lobsters for 30 $ ..really really Too expensive
The daily special lobster Alfredo pasta was just ok.
Food and service were great but slightly overpriced. Tourist area is probably to blame for this.
Fried clams were tasty. Seafood fish pie was very tasty. Prices were comparable to other bars
No comment.
Stopped at Grannans for a bite on the patio and ordered off the lunch menu. God love the poor young fellow who was serving as you can tell that they were understaffed and he was doing his utmost best and was very good however the kitchen totally let him down: Ordered a shrimp skewer, 5 cold cocktail shrimp on a stick. Fried clams & chips, cold clams out of a freezer bag, the chips were thick cut french fries cold, a limp and tasteless coleslaw like it's been sitting out in the heat. The wife ordered a smash burger and fries and a blueberry salad, the definition of smash burger was taken very liberally, and it was just a grilled patty that I could have done better at home, the fries didn't appear until we asked, the salad was the best part, hard to mess up putting a couple ingredients in a bowl. The two stars are for the young gentleman who served us but this was the crappiest 60$ meal I've had in the city.
Good food and friendly atmosphere
Great cheesecake!
Never recieved such poor service. Drinks were over priced and the waitresses refused to acknowledge my friends and I. 0/10, do not recommend.
Great place to get a beer and hear some great music. Tonight we were entertained by a great band from saint John's very own Burgundy Drive.
Forget this overpriced downtown joint! 2 shucked oysters $5 would NOT have filled a teaspoon....took over 45 minutes & 3 reminders . Starter mussels $17 (super small like the oysters) NO broth & stale bread cut from a stick. A seafood vongole (spagetti) $33...seafood comprised 5 aformention mussels, 2 shrimp/prawns, 1 scallop, teaspoon of fish pieces & parmeson cheese sauce, tasting of uncooked flour. 2 beers & 2 house wines about $104. When questioned eventually offered 25% off, after initial refusals....should have walked, as this was not a good deal. But what can one do in such circumstances? NOT RECOMMENDED!
(Translated) Very good, delicious dishes !!! (Original) Muito bom, pratos deliciosos!!!
I had the best fish and chips ever!!! Great service and nice atmosphere. Wish I didn't live two hours away.
This is a wonderful place to eat fish and chips, an excellent ceaser salad that pairs well with a ceaser drink.
Very good food, in a cozy restaurant.
Service was super friendly and accommodating. Very dog friendly on the patio. Drinks were great, but food was clearly not made from scratch.
Got takeout here, my fiancee wanted crab and this was the only place I could find. I shared the meal with her, it was likely the best seafood I've ever had, with mussels, clams and crawfish. And the crab was delectable. That sauce is unreal! 10/10 and a very satisfied fiancee! Turned a bad day into a good one, I guess money can buy happiness!
Couldn't make a reservation, no one answers the phone. Once seated, took 10 minutes to get drinks. Ordered food, which took 25-30 minutes to come to the table. Server only checked on us twice during the entire meal. Asked for the bill, server disappeared for at least 15 minutes. Food was excellent, but the service, particularly since it was not busy, was unacceptable.
It's always great to eat there whenever visiting Saint John. The food is great and the people there are friendly.
This is such a really great restaurants for seafood probably the best in the city there's always live music outside and outdoor seating really great place really good prices for very friendly and kind really excellent customer service all we should try to sign the crowd I highly recommend you check this place out you will really enjoy yourself to send carpeting guys. Hope to see you again real soon.
Great food great service
I got this recommendation from google and it didn't disappoint! We were looking for seafood, St. John style and we ended up getting the seafood bucket. Sooo good. The Cajun seasoning was perfect. I also have to talk about the decor and location. Both were excellent. There is live music outside and the inside is updated but still has some historic roots. Very cozy
Went here for dinner on a Wednesday night. The service was a little slow and inattentive, but it wasn't that bad. The food was very good, delicious seafood and scallops. Their fish tacos were delicious, highly recommend! Just come here expecting slower service, but enjoy appetizers and a meal from their light menu and it will be a great experience.
Waiter, Ryan, was excellent, friendly, professional, accommodating and should be considered a valued employee....bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer were very good, if you are looking for an appreciation for lobster, the lobster melt is not it....too much dressing and the 7 cheeses overtake the lobster, the entire plate had an excellent presentation, cole slaw, fries, pickle, all very good, but next time, might just go with the plain lobster roll.....for $100 (including tip), for 2 ( 2 glasses of wine), not a real good value
Nicely located near the harbor. Food could be better, especially the 44$ lobster mac and cheese.
Great seafood and friendly service.
My father was visiting from Vancouver, we brought him to grannan's for drinks and chicken pita nachos. Seems as though the serving has gotten quit a bit smaller since I had been there last. Wasn't enough to share. Drinks were good but expensive, food good but not much for the price. Used to be amazing, note I would say average.
Staff is great and food is delicious. Definitely recommend
Love the great service , the food and live entertainment!
Love the seafood chowder. Great service too.
Not very good and way over priced
Went in for dinner before a show. We were a few minutes late for our reservation due to construction. Took a while to get our drinks and made our dinner order at the same time. We then waited over an hour and had to leave without even getting our meal. Was not impressed.
This is a really nice spot to relax on a date or work meetings, really good food and awesome customer service.
Excellent seafood chowder
Had my first ever lobster roll here and it did not disappoint! The whole family enjoyed their meals and the service was great. The view from our window seat upstairs was lovely and we would definitely return.
Long wait ,short stuff , average food , good location
Awful.
Fresh seafood. Prompt courteous and friendly service.
Very good food, a bit pricey but amazing.
Excellent service and food
Awesome establishment. The pulled pork nachos were out of this world
Visiting St John with family, decided to stop here. The service was horrible, took over 20 minutes for the waitress take our drink order then waited close to 30 minutes for our drinks. Lunch order took over an hour to be served even though there was only 2 other tables being occupied. 3 of the 4 meals had issues. One of the meals was a chicken sandwiches and the piece of chicken was tougher then a piece of leather. Waitress seemed lost and we had to ask for glasses of water twice as she forgot we asked the first time. I would not recommend this place.
Awful food, small portions, very expensive, menu is misleading, beer was warm, our server was good, but can't justify eating there again!!!!
Great food and atmosphere. Love eating here outside right on the water. Clams were wonderful as was everything else the table had. Will definitely be back!
Delicious food, great customer service, nice patio located near the water. The mussels are amazing! Good lobster roll as well. Delicious fish and chips too.
Great food and service.
Friendly folks and good food
They were very busy but still our waiter was friendly and kept checking on us to be sure we were good as it took a little longer for our food to come.
Fantastic seafood menu!
Lazy Lobster and Salmon great! Lobster stuffed 3 cheese mushroons excellent. Have a different dessert...Fried sugar donut, coffee ice cteam whipped cream it is.
Great drinks. Quiet place to play vlts have a bite to eat. And chill with friends. Asking service and friendly staff
Power hour!
Great service great food very clean
Absolutely horrible and overpriced. Measly seafood portions and old stale horridly tastless side dishes. Would never go back or recommend this establishment. Save your money and go somewhere else!!!!
Decent enough place, staff was friendly but the place is fairly busy - as will all the restaurants along here. The door to outside kept making a loud bang which was a bit annoying. Food was good, prepared nicely. Nothing super great but definitely good enough. They had half priced apps (most were seafood) and I tried the Donair which again wasn't that expensive. Washrooms were clean.
Food great
Definitely a place to visit if you are in Saint Johns NB
I'm not sure why this place has such a low rating. We stopped by to eat after a day of exploring the city. Service was fantastic, a little pricey but the food, drinks and overall atmosphere made up for it. I highly recommend the lobster melt.
Over priced. Poor service and very slow. Staff are rude and act like they are being interupted from something more important.
Bad service even with no customer!
Stopped by Friday just after 3pm. We had the "Shuck a buck" Oysters (3-6 pm) and the fish tacos. The tacos were excellent and a bit messy. Thanks Alice for being a great waitress! We sat out on the patio. Would definitely come back.
Lots of exceptionally great food, attentive staff, moderately high prices, but its worth it!
Good service and a friendly staff. Great boardwalk spot!
Awesome food, awesome service. Try the caesar salad!
Favorite restaurant, have to go when I visit home in Saint John
Very delicious food ...excellent plaisant service and staff...would recommande it to anyone
Amazing, giant scallops dinner, lobster mushroom caps and the halibut special was unreal!! Will definitely comeback more often!!
The seafood bucket was awesome. The service was great and our server was very patient with us.
Great drinks and dining
Good service. Good food!
I went there today with 3 family members 2 were visiting from Montreal. The patio was nice........ Unfortunately that was where the good experience ended. The waitress took our drink order, the drinks took forever no water was even brought to the table. We finally got our drinks and waited no less than an hour for our food. (It was not busy at all) There were no apologies for the wait. The food was mediocre except for my aunts chicken burger was more like chicken jerky. I dont know what was going on in the kitchen but cooking was definitely not the priority. We will definitely not be back and would never recommend. Do yourself a favor and go up the street to Brits where customer satisfaction means something.
- open later than other nearby restaurants - good view of town public performances - nice indoors and outdoors seating - good sized menu items - granny burger was overcooked (both bread and meat) - pita nachos didn't have much flavor nor cheese - fish and chips were good
fantastic food... service slow though x
Love the food friendly
Myself and 4 people came from Toronto to the east coast and Grannan's the one place we could not stop talking about. Steak sandwich, haddock sandwich and 2 lobster sandwiches were all amazingly tasty. Best Caesar drinks ever! Kinda pricey but so good!
I don't usually mind paying more if the food is great, but it was no better than what I could get for half the price elsewhere.
Food was amazing. Service was good..price was ridiculously high
Just average food slow service
Oh my gosh this place is good. You walk in, and you see this kind of innocent blue atmosphere, then get walked upstairs and seated, in a modern, minimalistic, sleek restaurant. We had a great server (I think his name was Ryan?). I got the millionaire fish and chips (fish and chips with fresh fish and bacon wrapped scallops) and also had some seafood pie (don't know if that was the name). It was delicious. Then we saw another table having banana Foster. We rarely have banana Foster, (I personally had never had it, but love banana desserts) so we got some, its was vacation after all. One of the best things I've ever tasted- not an exaggeration. Definitely the best dessert I've ever had, in my life. We passed it around, one bite at a time. While everyone else was foolishly eating the ice cream, I was eating the syrup that lay at the bottom, with a banana piece, too. It was delicious.
Beauty little spot with kick a$$ fish tacos!
Had the charred steak and 1/2 lobster - YUM!! Nice spot, grab a table by the window if you can!!
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend this place
As someone who never complains about anything in public I have to rate Grannan's Caesar Salad as one of the worst I have ever had. The dressing was runny, poor quality romaine, mostly stalks. The croutons were probably the cheapest they could buy in bulk. If you are going to buy them at least spend a little more for better quality. Just came from a family dinner with 5 others who enjoyed their seafood and steak meals, even though they questioned the quantity for the high prices.By choice I do not eat fish or red meat and am content to have salad as my dinner. I have eaten a lot of salads at many different restaurants in Saint John and elsewhere. Most serve much better for half the price. Our service was good, the waiter was very attentive. Manager offered a very courteous, polite, respectful apology even though in her 3 years experience she had never had a complaint??? She had a very precise, practiced apology. Taking it off my bill or offering dessert was not going to change my opinion. It was just too bad for that. Very disappointed.
Great customer service and delicious food. My sister and I had the haddock and fries. Everything tasted fresh and home made. You know the cole slaw was super fresh. The tartar sauce definitely tasted freshly made and was awesome. The fish was crunchy outside, but tender and flaky inside. Best fish and chips I've had in a while.
The granny burger was ridiculously tasty and the bartender provided first class service.
Great food and friendly staff, in the heart of downtown.
Great place for lunch or supper. Its right on the boardwalk near the harbour so there are spectacular views.
Good food, for the price, and nice quick very attentive service. We went for lunch????
Great atmosphere but overpriced for the food. I didn't order seafood but the food wasn't great.
Loved the mussels
Great salads!!
Great food. Service a little slow but nice evening
Disappointing. Ordered the steak. It was cold and way tougher than a $37 steak should be. My mistake for not sending it back but I was too hungry to wait for another attempt. There was a nice medley of vegetables though.
Would not return. The seasonal vegetables were just boiled veg, lacked seasoning. All the fish was over cooked and two dishes came out cold. Server was nice but not very attentive, drinks often empty
Good
Went with my family (all adults) at around 10 pm on Friday night . The ambience was nice but that’s really about it The server was nice but the food took ages to come , probably an hour or more in total from when we sat to when we received our food. Out of the 8 dishes we ordered 1 was good (cheese cake) , 2 were meh ( 1 summer steak, coconut shrimp) and remainder was awful (fish and chips , the two philly steak sandwiches , and the other summer steak) . The awful food just didn’t have any taste, it was like eating cardboard . For this price point , I would give this place a 1/5 . The only reason I am giving it a 2 is because of the ambience and live music outside . I should’ve looked at the other reviews before going in , they were spot on . Slow service and very overpriced food
