The food was delicious. We got marinated cauliflower, lamb and chicken Dosai and mango lassi. All yummy and tasty. The only thing that I think would be great to work on it, it’s the decoration and ambient which can add more pleasant to your experience. ????

Best Indian meal we’ve ever had! The chef is a young man who makes his family’s normal meals and called his food “simple and authentic”. But let me tell you, it’s not THAT simple when he talks about roasting seeds together, grinding them into spices that he uses in his dishes. The outcome of his work is a meal that is a pure delight. We thoroughly enjoyed two apps: pani puri and chicken-65 and our entrees were a lamb curry and a chicken curry served with fresh unleavened Indian bread (not quite like naan) and rice. Also the chef eagerly selected choices for us when we expressed an interest in his recommendations—we loved it and all his choices. Oh and he seems very tuned in to the average North Americans tolerance for spice and adjusted our food a bit but still have us a burn at a level we both really enjoyed. Can’t recommend enough. If you’re visiting Nelson, try this place out!

I’ve had better dosas. The flavour is definitely much more muted than what I am used to. I felt like there was no masala in the dosa. I ordered a paneer dosa and the stuffing was just some sabji with barely any paneer in it. The sambar didn’t have much flavour either. If you are foodie like me and have had dosas elsewhere (Surrey, Vancouver, Toronto, etc) I would skip this place.

Best Indian food in town, by a long shot. An really cozy, beautiful patio in the summer. I always get chappathi and Paneer Butter Masala. SO. GOOD. If you have a sweet tooth, I recommend getting the gulab jamun sundae, or a mango lassi.

ordered the lamb curry and rice with the chicken samosas and it was absolutely delicious - no delivery fee and i was able to order completely online! the portions are pretty good for the price and the food is amazing - one of the only places in town as far as i know that delivers indian takeout, its a bit of a wait but it tells you that upfront and they were right on time, plus the food was still warm so no complaints there! definitely planning on ordering again soon. edit: they gave me enough food for a whole second meal so the portions are very good for their prices! super happy with my order :)

Today was my first time eating here, absolutely amazing and authentic Indian food. There are dishes I had never heard of and I plan to go back to try more! They also carry loads of authentic ingredients, snacks, and spice mixes you can't find anywhere else in town. The staff were friendly and answered my endless questions about the displays as well as the foods being served. After my meal I ended up leaving with a large bag of assorted cooking ingredients and snacks, as well as a Dosa to eat later for dinner (recommended to me by another customer)(It's like a giant savory crepe filled with spicy meat and veggies, I love it!)

I was not very happy with our time at Kootenay Tamil. We decided to go based on a recommendation from a friend who often eats here. We arrived at 11:00am, and we're told that they wouldn't be ready with the buffet until 11:15, which we weren't bothered by; and chose to visit neighboring stores until they were ready. We then came back 25 minutes later, and were told again that they weren't prepared yet. We waited another 10 minutes until our 2 year old could no longer keep herself composed, and left. We were more than willing to wait a few minutes, but 35 minutes after their storefront said the buffet started is a little bit much to wait. I am disappointed because Tamil Kitchen came so highly recommended.

Found it by chance while strolling through downtown Nelson. Was recommended to try their buffet, and loved it. They have a nice spread including starters, main course (utthappam, medu vada, rice, Salam bhar, veggie curry, fish curry, chicken curry and payasam for dessert. Reasonably priced. Indoor and outdoor seating options available. Nice traditional decor. Worth a visit.

Came here a couple days ago, the food (chicken kothu paratha and a mutton kothu paratha) tasted really good and authentic. It was better than other tamil restuarants i have tried in Victoria and Calgary. I liked the decor and style of the place. The owner was really friendly and nice. The serving size could definitely use improvement hence the four stars . The portion me and my gf got was far too small as neither of us were close to full with our dishes which were served in little pots like they do in some places, but the pots were smaller and shallower

We’re visiting Nelson for a couple days. This place deserves all the stars! Such good food. So good that every dish was devoured by the sometimes picky 12 and 15 year-olds. We shared two dosai, two curries and another dish with some little buns.

Went in and figured we would try something other than the usual. Gave him free reign. He brought two appetizers I had never heard of. Both were amazing. One was spicy cauliflower but not too spicy. Super delicious. The other were these balls filled with goodness you put more goodness into. Then the final plate. I had some chicken curry mix and the wife had eggplant mix. We were blown away. Explained all about the food and one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at any restaurant ever.

Walk down Baker for the specatcle, but come here to eat. A warm and welcoming family business with family recipes from Southern India. Everything was explained to us. The Pani Puri is a tantilizing appetizer. Lots of vegetarian options that are full of flavor. You will be glad that you broke away from the crowds and made the short walk here.

I was there in February and went for dinner and the owner/chef was there and was very nice. I told him I was there in January for breakfast but you hadn’t opened when I was there at 8:00 am. He said sometimes they don’t open exactly on time which is common in Nelson. He said he would be there in the morning the next day if we wanted to have breakfast and we did and he was ready for us. Food is good. It’s South Indian food which is different from the other Indian restaurants which are North Indian.

I don’t even want to give 1 star to this restaurant. The Food is nasty. We paid more than $55 and didn’t eat anyting, coz of the wrong temperature of the food. We ordered dosas here and they forget to add masla inside the dosa????.. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone..????

No customer service at all. Found a hair in my dosa and there was no apology or any explanation. They did make me a new Dosa but there was no apology about the first one. We did not receive any napkins instead we had to go in the restaurant and ask for it. No menu was provided nor did they say to look on your phone for the restaurant menu.The server didn't once come back to us asking if we needed anything or give us a refill. They did not even provide any discount for the hair found in the Dosa. There is no customer service at all and thats very unfortunate. I think the server needs some training because she clearly doesn't know. If I was in a Canadian restaurant the service would have been such a positive experience.

Came in today at 8:40 pm and it's 9:45 pm now and still haven't got my food, but got the appetizers though. Lots desired in the speed of service. Had to wait 15 mins before anyone even approached us. It's 9:48pm still no food. The appetizers were quite tasty, I must say. I left at 9:50 pm, got no food, left without eating.

Soooo good! We were not expecting authentic south indian food and each dish was interesting and tasty. Which is better, the beef curry or the lamb curry? Both were great. The chickpea salad was yummy. We had 5 things from the menu and there were many more that looked interesting especially given that we were 5 for 5 on tasty dishes.

The kitchen service was pretty slow (which I was warned of by the waiter), but the vegetarian thali I ordered was terrific. It had a nice sugary coconut dessert that I hadn't tried before, and now that's in my dreams. I think it's great to see South Indian food in a smaller town. I will return someday to try the buffet!

This quaint restaurant is not your everyday Indian cuisine. Atually it Is!! The Chef takes pride is serving authentic home Indian cuisine, even if it is too labour intensive for other kitchens. My colleague mentioned he had not had Indian food this authentic or good since travelling overseas. I highly recommend this place, and will be back ea h and every time I am in Nelson.

You will be charmed, full of good food and ready to hit the slopes after eating breakfast, lunch or dinner. Don’t leave Nelson, BC without eating at Katooney South India Kitchen. Next time we are in Nelson, BC we will stop in again.

Wonderful food! A bit different from the usual Indian fare. They have a wide selection of dosai, and the curries have a uniquely Tamil flavour. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the staff are helpful. They were able to accommodate my allergy to dairy easily, and knew exactly which dishes needed to be modified slightly.

Tamil kitchen has some great new choices that aren't typically in an indian/ethnic foods restaurant. I was a little surprised( in a good way.) at how spicy the food was, generally most places tone down their spice for white people, but it was a good amount and suited the dish nicely. The biggest failings of Tamil are its service and decor, which unfortunately are both somewhat underwhelming. Overall I'd return for the food, but won't expect the experience of the restaurant to be wowing.

Overpriced small portions disappointing food nothing special. Bad location. Only positive is the owner is nice.

Amazing food, server was friendly and very helpful in suggestions from the menu as South Indian food was an unknown to us. Great to share dishes or order the tasting dinners for 1 to try a sampling of things. Not North American serving sizes for those with bulk eating styles. Server was great at suggesting how much to order. Will definitely come in again! Great outdoor patio too.

Very very bad experience with KTK restaurant. We had to wait for almost 40 mins for three dosas and teas. We were seated for very long time. The food was realy bad. No flavors at all and expensive too. However the front staff was very nice.Will not suggest here for indian food.
