Told order would be ready for delivery in about an hour and half - after two hours, still wasn't delivered. They weren't answering one phone line and the other phone line said they weren't accepting calls. The food used to be really good, but I'm not sure any more because I haven't received any food the last two times I've ordered. This now ends my relationship with DB Chinese Food. If you order delivery or pick-up, allow about two hours from the order time because they do not adhere to the times they say.

Used to be the best Chinese food in town and on time delivery. Ordered a few months ago and after two hours and a call to check in, the food didn’t arrive so we cancelled. Tried again tonight thinking it couldn’t possibly happen again. Wrong. It’s been two hours and we’re done. Will never attempt to give them our business again. Love supporting local restaurants but we’ll find another.

Dover Chinese offers traditional American-style Chinese Food at an affordable price. They're better than the other big Chinese Food chains in town, and prepare 4-5 dish meals in around 20 minutes on average. Definitely recommend if you're in need of dinner in a pinch.

Dover Chinese Food is a small take out place in North Nanaimo. They also have a few tables available. Dover's menu is quite large. This is the first Chinese place I tried in Nanaimo after moving here in 2015. The portions are generous and the food is tasty. They had a couple of items I've not seen before. They serve up massive egg rolls and their Hot and Sour soup was nothing like that served down East. Both were very good. Their Singapore noodles were absolutely scrumptious. I must try their Shanghai noodles next time. The people are nice too.

Just moved to Nanaimo and was craving Chinese .Awesome food and the person that answered the phone was polite and got my order correct the first time had to wait an hr for delivery BUT it was well worth it. I ordered a combination meal and there was lots for one person and it was hot and fresh .I will deffinatly order from here again.Thanks Dover Chinese .☺

Very upset. They made a mistake on our order and have refused to fix it. Now that leaves one of our guests - on Thanksgiving - without a dish to eat. Food is fine, but the customer service is horrendous.

Not bad. Hot and fresh. Friendly efficient counter service. Not a lot of meat in the meat dishes. Steamed rice quite stodgy. Good sized portions. Store itself could do with a makeover. Boxes of supplies in untidy customer area.

Depending when you order, they can be very busy. Usually mid week, and weekends. I like their portions, combos can be shared between two people. Their chowmein varies time to time as well, sometimes its pulled chicken or that processed stuff. Sweet and sour, which is my favorite, comes a little hard sometimes with too much or too little sauce. I'd like it if separate orders of other choosing should be sized and priced accordingly, but its only 1 size and 1 price. Id say my review of the place is neutral, I'll still order from them time to time.

Good Food, for pick-up or delivery. The food is good, fresh, cooked to order , but the "dining room" is just 2 small tables, which are often used by customers waiting to pick-up their order. The delivery service is fast and usually arrives before the estimated time, or there is a 10% discount on orders over $30 if paid for in cash. Don't plan on dining at the restaurant as it's not a very relaxing atmosphere, very small & very busy. This business specializes in delivery and pick-up orders. There are several parks nearby, so having a "Chinese Food Picnic" is an option, or just dine at home with no kitchen clean up afterwards.

Our first take out order in Nanaimo. It is not a place to go to for dine in. They only do take out. You will get a 10% discount if you pick it up by yourself. But if you cannot, you pay the regular price. You can pay cash or card when ordering by phone upon delivery. The good thing here you can order before 12 midnight. I love their fried rice, and their curry fried rice. I dislike their almond chicken, though. Their chow mien tastes all the same even though you ordered different varieties.

Slower than molasses on a cold winters night in Inuvik but thankfully the food is excellent. I'm often told my order will be ready for pickup in x minutes and when I go there after x minutes, I routinely wait another 10- 15 minutes on top of the estimated time provided over the phone when the order was placed.

Super disappointed today! This was our go to place for Chinese food. We have probably ordered here 50+ times. Today we ordered and it was a large order. Got home and many things were wrong. Bean sprouts through everything. Sweet and sour pork instead of sweet and sour chicken ball’s. Called to let them know the order wasn’t right and the first guy was great. Then one of the ladies got on the phone and decided to let us know, it was our fault that they had it written down wrong. We were very clear on the phone and repeated the order. I’m not sure how this was our fault and now we don’t want to go back. The arguing was terrible customer service and so disappointing. This isn’t the first time our order has been messed up and we usually end up picking out what we didn’t want. Decided to call it in today as the order was 150.00$ but instead we were argued with and told it’s our fault. Sadly I think this is the end of an almost 10 years of loyalty to this place. Super sad and disappointed in the service today. Never thought I would write this as the food is great but the service was awful today and leaves me wondering if I had called in before would this have been the end sooner.

You guys need to get your sh@$ together! Ordered food at 4PM, said it would be 45minutes. Came at 5PM, said they would be another 10 minutes. Left and came back 30 minutes later. Was told order was not started yet. Left heated, as no management would discuss the problem. Why? Cause they are incompetent, have NO communication skills. Came back 30 minutes later, finally got my food. Almost 2 hours later. Terrible service. New ownership? Maybe. Not getting my business again.

They have cheaped out in every way, on all ingredients, very disappointing, they need to step up the game since more competition in town . Worst Chinese food I ever had. My ginger beef was not even mixed I sauce and was just beef chunks. My chow main was old and gross. My beef and broccoli was disgusting the broccoli and carrots where mush and the beef was not beef not sure what it was. I recommend they shut this place down????????????????????

if you work here, don't expect a future, or raise, or tips. no safety training required, no SIN required. everyone can just come in and work just to get minimum wage. the raise in legal wage makes the owner absolutely mad. the menu hasn't changed for decades. No skipthedishes, no doorrush. You won't like it unless you're a caveman, or homesteader, or idk. This just isn't the way to go.

Less than one star, was told an hour for pick up waited over 2 hours, extra 10% discount but not worth it. I waited so long I had a good chance to look around waiting area, very dirty, rickety furniture to sit on, old magazines. I will be calling Health Canada to do an inspection but they have lost my business and I will be sure to tell everyone I meet to never go there. Food was lukewarm at best, less than a 5 minute drive home. THE WORST!!

We ordered here for New Year's Eve at 5:45pm for pick up at 7pm my husband arrived at 7pm after working all day and is still sitting there waiting for our food at 7:30pm , no one upfront to complain to or ask how long it's going to be .. They took the phones off the hook so no one can call and complain . I understand it's New Year's Eve and it's busy but should you have maybe had more staff on ?just a idea this isn't the first year theve been open I'm sure they must know how busy it was going to get lol maybe said something on the phone when I placed my order ? Bad business - this place states that their restaurant is open until 12am on Saturday's - but I called many times just after 11pm and no answer. This is Nanaimo's hidden gem for Chinese food. My wife and I order, and whether it's pickup or delivery, the service is always great and the food is hot. Let me tell you about the taste. It is great. Few Chinese restaurants will do a great black bean sauce. this is one of them. Even now, after I write this review, I dream of the taste. the noodles are perfectly cooked, the veggies are not too crunchy but not too soft. they are very generous with the amounts of meat, and generous with portions overall. I should know. I can eat 2 dishes at most restaurants and here 1 is enough. A few people have given 1-star reviews for a one time bad experience. that is unfair. Dover has always taken our special order dishes, has always priced them fairly, and has always delivered on time. We have probably had delivery 2 dozen times from them and I am always amazed at their speed. the delivery driver is really courteous. we have had pickup at least that many times. there has never been a time I have come away disappointed. there have been times when I could tell that "our" chef was not on, and that the food was not quite as good as usual, but that did not detract from the fact that we got a great meal at a good price. Even at Dover's "worst", I would take them over any other Chinese restaurant in Nanaimo. My one complaint is that I can't seem to impress upon them the fact that I want my dish REALLY spicy, but I put habanero flakes on my food, so I may be an outlier. I think that if Dover had a sit-down restaurant area, they would be huge. but as it is, they are an incredible bargain. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed. and if you are, you are a whiner.

Half the dinner was just OK. The other half was chewy and dry, sweet and sour pork and almond chicken. It's below average. Not many options on this side of town so you're pretty much stuck with it.

Orders can be a bit slow at times but the food is always delicious. They make a great wonton soup.
